Obama’s Absurd West Point Speech

weBarack Obama gave the commencement address at the United States Military Academy at West Point on Wednesday, and piled absurdity upon absurdity.

“For the foreseeable future, the most direct threat to America, at home and abroad, remains terrorism,” he said, but steadfastly refrained throughout his speech from explaining the source of that terrorism threat, much less its ideological foundation or goal. This is, of course, the President who in October 2011 placed off-limits any investigation of the beliefs, motives and goals of jihad terrorists, overseeing the scrubbing of all counter-terror training materials of all mention of Islam and jihad in connection with terrorism.

Deputy U.S. Attorney General James Cole declared at that time that he had “recently directed all components of the Department of Justice to re-evaluate their training efforts in a range of areas, from community outreach to national security.” This “reevaluation” removed all references to Islam in connection with any examination of Islamic jihad terror activity.

At the same time, Dwight C. Holton, former U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, emphasized that training materials for the FBI would be purged of everything politically incorrect: “I want to be perfectly clear about this: training materials that portray Islam as a religion of violence or with a tendency towards violence are wrong, they are offensive, and they are contrary to everything that this president, this attorney general and Department of Justice stands for. They will not be tolerated.”

Holton said that he had spoken with Attorney General Eric Holder about FBI training materials that Holton claimed were “egregiously false,” and that Holder was “firmly committed to making sure that this is over….we’re going to fix it.” Holton said that this “fix” was particularly urgent because the rejected training materials posed “a significant threat to national security, because they play into the false narrative propagated by terrorists that the United States is at war with Islam.”

Cole declared: “We must never allow our sorrow and anger at the senseless attack of 9/11 to blind us to the great gift of our diversity.” And this, he said, must involve a rejection of the stereotyping of Muslims: “All of us must reject any suggestion that every Muslim is a terrorist or that every terrorist is a Muslim.  As we have seen time and again – from the Oklahoma City bombing to the recent attacks in Oslo, Norway – no religion or ethnicity has a monopoly on terror.”

Of course, the controversial training materials did not really claim that all Muslims are terrorists or that all terrorists are Muslims, and it is noteworthy that Cole had to resort to dismissive caricatures to make his point. And the end result of this whitewashing effort, three years later, is that the President of the United States has to acknowledge that “the most direct threat to America, at home and abroad, remains terrorism,” but cannot bring himself to explain where that terrorism is coming from.

And the remedy he offered was no more realistic and showed no signs of being developed by people who were prepared to deal with harsh realities. “Today,” he announced at West Point, “…I am calling on Congress to support a new counterterrorism partnerships fund of up to $5 billion, which will allow us to train, build capacity and facilitate partner countries on the front lines.”

There is such a comic opera feel to all this, it’s a shame that Gilbert and Sullivan aren’t around. The U.S. is forking over another $5 billion to fight against those whom Obama referred to only as “terrorists” and “extremists” — that is, $5 billion to fight against a foe that U.S. officials are afraid to name, and officially forbidden to name.

Meanwhile, this radical new solution that Obama is proposing – spending money to help other countries fight against jihad terrorists (not that he ever called them that) – is nothing really new at all. It has been done for years. Right after 9/11, George W. Bush made a deal with then-President Parvez Musharraf of Pakistan, under which the U.S. gave billions to Pakistan every year to fight these shadowy “extremists,” only for the Pakistani government (which also affected high dudgeon at the killing of Osama bin Laden) to funnel a good bit of that money to those very same “extremists” — with no consequences from the U.S., of course.

Barack Obama is the very model of a modern U.S. President.

Also, if al Qaeda is “on the ropes” and all that, why do we need to spend another $5 billion to fight them?

Obama’s speech was full of the dissimulations and half-truths one would expect from someone who has steadfastly tried to ignore and deny reality, only to have it keep breaking in on his fantasies. He desperately hopes that with a few small adjustments to allow for undeniable realities, he could maintain the principal substance of his fantasies – but reality will keep breaking in, and chipping away at these cherished falsehoods, until there is nothing left of them at all. We may only hope that by the time that happens, there is something still left of us.

“We must never allow our sorrow and anger at the senseless attack of 9/11 to blind us to the great gift of our diversity.”

    Really?

    • Albert Darringdon

I get your point but I don’t like the picture. It’s not fair to make a joke out of a woman’s grief like that.

      • Moa

Don’t you get it. This Administration is the one making the joke out of the sacrifices of servicemen, and the sacrifices of all those citizens who pay taxes to support wars to halt the forces of Sharia oppression.

No one likes the picture. That is part of the point.

      • Phuktifino

Sure doesn’t come across as a joke to me.Just a perfect illustration of the wicked will of the establishment liberal elite.

      • Aurelius

It was not meant as a joke. This is in effect what we are being told. Consider this unforgettable quote:

Our diversity not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse.

~ General George Casey, U.S. Army Chief of Staff, commenting on the Fort Hood massacre.

      • mike

Oh BS Albert – get over it. If it’s a joke at your level you really cannot have much of an understanding of what this column is saying. Go back to the collectivist rag you really understand.

        • Albert Darringdon

Hey man, cool it. I appreciate the sentiment behind the picture I just think there could be a better way to express it.

          • Gee

Like when Hillary comforted the families of the victims of her stupidity in Libya but telling them that she would make sure the film producer went to jail?

There have also been numerous statements to the effect that these terrorists will be brought to justice and captured, dead or alive. After the death of Osama bin Laden, I’ll take my government at its word. The fact these terrorists won’t be brought to justice overnight is neither here nor there. It’s the INEVITABILITY of the U.S. finding a way that brings them to justice that is important to me. It takes time for intelligence gathering that allows for targeted strikes and kills and captures.

          • kaz

your confidence in our “leaders” is touching. think about this. the bin ladin assassination–what choice did the muslim in chief have? if he had sabotaged the assassination, he would have been impeached. so uncle bin took a hit for the team. in what instance has dear leader ever done anything effective against terrorists when there was an alternative? I would be far more impressed by the cessation of all muslim immigration than any of the ballyhooed efforts against “terrorism”, most of which involve terrorizing innocent citizens in the desperate search for a non-Islamic terrorist.

          • Americana

Oh, please! If there were Islamization and Islamic undermining of CIA and FBI and NSA activities going on, we would eventually hear about them.

What choice did Pres. Obama have? He could EASILY, just as easily if not MORE SO, chosen to deny to execute the assassination attempt on the basis that we didn’t KNOW for SURE that it was Osama bin Laden. **No one would have been the wiser as to his motives because it would have been PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE for him to COUNSEL CAUTION and not rile up the Pakistanis.** That’s NOT what Pres. Obama chose to do. (If you haven’t watched the YouTube video w/Admiral McRaven where he’s discussing the Osama bin Laden mission w/Wolf Blitzer, you should.)

As for the choice to commit to the mission without CONTACTING ANY PAKISTANI OFFICIALS/OFFICERS whatsoever, to enter Pakistani airspace without Pakistani permission, to assassinate a principal jihadi terrorist along w/a bunch of his family and coconspirators, and then fly home, required this President to steel himself for WHATEVER the Pakistani reaction to the raid might have been. Again, I’d tell you to watch Admiral McRaven’s interview by Wolf Blitzer on the Osama bin Laden raid.

And further to the idiot comments by Cole:
“And this, he said, must involve a rejection of the stereotyping of Muslims…”
Wow, can I get a “hell yeah” when asking for the same treatment of TEA supporters? Didn’t think so. We will still be wrongly portrayed as anti-women, racist and heartless. No matter that conservatives donate more percentage of income to charity than liberals do. No matter that it was Democrats who wanted to continue segregation.
After reading the transcript of that speech from West Point, I am at a loss for further comment because I have never heard so much BS in such a short time in my life. It was like a bad dream.

Diversity is a crock of sh t. I married a Han woman. So as a couple we are or were as diverse as it could get.

But we are 2 people. That is we we are more than one person. Since we are 2 people that makes us a group. Yes, I am belaboring the point, but there are liberals among us. They need the obvious pointed out and they definitely need repetition.

Since we are a group, we have the group dynamics.

Ah, clarity. Even when it’s inadvertent. Thank you, Mr. former U.S. Attorney Holton.

Since when does the liberal political wing of American politics think that diversity is a great gift? Everything that has been done by liberals since at least the election of Barack Obama has been done with homogeneity in mind, not diversity.

  • rbla

The man in lieu of a president is, like his predecessor, just another creature of the ruling elite obsessed by both greed and the cult of diversity. After 911 they had a major problem – how to keep the American people asleep while they continued to flood the country with Muslims and other third worlders. To do so they stoked the fires of false patriotism by engaging in pointless wars and symbolic acts like taking out Osama bin Laden and the occasional use of drones. Now that enough time has passed they find it safe to simply withdraw and allow the natural Muslim proclivities of Iraq and Afghanistan to reassert themselves. And they can continue to elect a new people while Americans go back to their usual entertaining distractions.

Worse, under his watch the Law Enforcement has been hampered by eliminating the training and vocabulary most needed to profile potential terrorists. That is Mr. Spencer’s most important warning to Americans.

It is a leftist tendency to reduce civil liberties for everyone to avoid profiling anyone. We now are watched and listened too more than any time in history. But, all this surveillance could not prevent an attack like Boston if the vocabulary of Jihad is banned from law enforcement. The Russian warnings were clear until the messages were “cleaned up”. All the terrorist needs to say is that they will engage is “Jihad” and the message is deleted by the FBI?

    • Americana

You have misunderstood how the intelligence failure occurred. The Russians warned us explicitly that Tsarnaev had come for terrorism training and that he might have returned as a trained jihadist w/intentions to commit jihad here in the U.S. Some FBI agents went to visit Tsarnaev and his family and those agents gave him the benefit of the doubt because he sounded credible and normal. There was no “scrubbing” of the intelligence the Russians gave us. What happened is that our FBI agents allowed Tsarnaev to pull the wool over their eyes and they failed to adequately police him after that FBI interview. I believe the FBI did some surveillance but not very much. What the FBI should have done is to have gotten a surveillance warrant and begun trailing the SOB for as long as it took. I would also have suggested that at some point, for any of these FBI interviews, they should have shown up for unannounced house visits w/BOMB DOGS and have them sniff through the entire premises as well as through ALL their vehicles.

Why is it Robert Spencer isn’t willing to identify the SPECIFIC jihadist threat that is facing the U.S. as well as discuss the possible solutions? (Other than hinting at the most illogical solutions possible.) We are not facing the Tamil Tigers, we are not facing Boko Haram, etc. within the U.S. He knows who we’re facing and he simply refuses to confront the issue because he realizes how intractable the situation is for the U.S. and that it requires a diplomatic solution.

It’s not rocket science. It’s common sense. Ban and reverse mass Muslim immigration with all of its excess baggage ASAP. Zero Muslims living in America equals zero jihad in America. It’s what GWB should have done immediately following 9/11, instead of declaring that Islam is a so-called “religion of peace” and that the vast majority of Muslims are moderates. Had he banned and reversed mass Muslim immigration with all of its excess baggage instead of doubling the size, scope, and power of the federal government the way he did via the creation of the massive Department of Homeland Security and the gargantuan National Intelligence Directorate, we’d be far better off today. Plus the NSA also wouldn’t be listening in our personal communications.

Let’s emulate Japan. Japan does not allow Muslim immigration because their government fully understands the ramifications. Thus, Japan doesn’t have a jihad problem like virtually everyone else. There are no no-go zones in Japan because there are no Muslims.
