American Pressure on Israel: What Would Jabotinsky Do?

1885460496In the wake of continued American pressure on Israel, with John Kerry, the U.S. Secretary of State, scheduled to arrive in Israel this week for his 10th visit in 10 months, Israel debates what comes next.  Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has canceled a decision to announce this week that it is promoting building plans for 1,400 settlement apartments, and he has already released over 100 Palestinian Arab terrorists from Israeli prisons. Netanyahu faces intense American pressure to sacrifice and negotiate, endangering Israel, and his political future.

Undoubtedly, Netanyahu is strategizing and thinking and wondering what the best course of action for his people is.  Perhaps the answer comes from history.  His father, Benzion Netanyahu, was Ze’ev Jabotinsky’s secretary, and ideological heir. The elder Netanyahu was a lifelong follower of Jabotinsky – who had plenty of modern answers for today’s problems.

Amidst criticism that Israel faces world pressure, and should sacrifice to comply with “world leaders,” Jabotinsky wrote a clear answer in The Story of The Jewish Legion:

“Everybody is wrong and you alone are right?” No doubt this question springs by itself to the reader’s lips and mind. It is customary to answer this with apologetic phrases to the effect that I fully respect public opinion, that I bow to it, that I was glad to make concessions….All this is unnecessary, and all this is untrue. You cannot believe in anything in the world, if you admit even once that perhaps your opponents are right, and not you. This is not the way to do things. There is but one truth in the world, and it is all yours. If you are not sure of it, stay at home; but if you are sure, don’t look back, and it will be your way.

For one who raises falsehoods about so-called “international law,” Ze’ev Jabotinsky declared that settlement of the “land” is the only “law.” As he said: “There is no justice, no law, and no God in heaven, only a single law which decides and supersedes all — [Jewish] settlement [of the land].”  On Zionism and “justice”?: Jabotinsky said: “We hold that Zionism is moral and just. And since it is moral and just, justice must be done, no matter whether Joseph or Simon or Ivan or Achmed agree with it or not.”

On talks of conceding in the Jordan or elsewhere: “Do not say, so what if we concede Hebron, Nablus and beyond the Jordan — this concession is not comprised of words devoid of meaning, and everyone will understand this to be the case. Do not underestimate the power of a concession! … Do not underestimate the power of a right, and don’t exaggerate the value of a building that is being built. I, too, respect the construction of a building, but woe upon us if we extract the basis of our right to exist from it. … The Christian hand may not touch our rights — which are eternal and are complete, and shall not be relinquished.”

Jabotinsky concluded in one of his essays:

We cannot promise any reward either to the Arabs of Palestine or to the Arabs outside Palestine. A voluntary agreement is unattainable. And so those who regard an accord with the Arabs as an indispensable condition of Zionism must admit to themselves today that this condition cannot be attained and hence that we must give up Zionism. We must either suspend our settlement efforts or continue them without paying attention to the mood of the natives. Settlement can thus develop under the protection of a force that is not dependent on the local population, behind an iron wall which they will be powerless to break down.

Thus, in a nutshell there must be an iron wall of Jewish military force. That force is called The State of Israel.  There is an insane obsession about pressing Israel to compromise – and break down the State of Israel piece by piece, which will not result in “peace.”  Leave Israel alone and let them live.

The evil Obama, and his henchman Kerry (and before him the equally horrible Hillary Clinton), and their ilk in Europe, notably Ashton, are de facto enemies of Israel. It is their goal, even if unstated, to destroy it. Their actions prove it. Realizing this, they must not only be ignored by Israel (notably Netanyahu) but publicly denounced! Bibi must say out loud for all to hear – “you people are our enemies, you are out to destroy us!” This is the most powerful weapon against evil – to acknowledge its existence in public. Don’t pretend it is not what it is.

  • TheOrdinaryMan

Josef Trumpeldor, Jabotinsky’s friend and contemporary, was always telling the Jews that they must “build…build…build!” And as for “justice,” its a word behind which evil often lies. Look at what’s happening here in the USA, with Obamacare and income redistribution; neither of which is fair to either the people who are robbed, or to those who allegedly benefit. Thus if Israel gives away land to the “Palestinians”, will “justice” be served? Or will great evil result?

israel has one thing going for it: it is a fact on the ground!! anyone who wishes to move populations out of their homes should be resisted. no giving in, no giving up!! PA made big mistakes when they had been given a state in 1947 and when the leadership told the people to leave their homes, making them refugees. israel does not have the duty to correct their historical and tragic, for their people, mistakes. they have several other Moslem countries in the area they can move to and have normal lives with their own kind, if they let them. but the cruelty of those countries not to let Palestinians refugees settle there, and keeping them in refugee camps is not Israel’s problem to solve. let Kerry make sure they settle when they live already. Abbas does not want a country, he wants one thing, and one thing only: Israel’s destruction and removal of the Jews who live in it. Kerry should be told thaat there is not deal like this, will never be and that he is wastting his time. Abbas will never change his demand that there will never be peace as long as Israel exists as a Jewish state. so if he can negotiate and not compromise so can Israel.

Rather pointless column. Jabotinsky is dead and Netanyahu is no Jabotinsky.

Israel should tell the US to mind their own business, they don’t need the United States, they are the apple of God’s eye and should defend themselves against the tyranical Islamist regimes, like Iran bent on destroying them!

    • Aterg

Lana, you are wrong. Israel needs us and we need them equally, The only democratic country in that part of the world. We all have a great past together culturally and philosophically, but we have nothing in common with that Atavistic society calling themselves Muslim. In the meantime during our present anti Israel administration . we must do everything to maintain our support for Israel.

      • Lanna

I fully support and love Israel, as do millions of Americans, anyone who knows the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob supports Israel, and have done many good things for them…The American government is evil…The point is we have a muslim in the White House who has enabled the Islamic regimes, the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, that got removed especially Moris, who tried to implement Sharia Law. Barack Obama’s main goal in office was to push Israel back to 1967 borders and curtail settlements, the devil does NOT want Jewish babies to be born, prosper, or have homes. The goals of Rosh, (Russia, and the Islamic Nations)…that are on God’s top ten HIt list, want to push Israel out of their land because of its tremendous resources. The War of Gog and Magog is coming. The fact that John Kerry, John Brennan, and Chuck Hagel range from clueless to hostile about Israel is a threat to Israel. Believe me, the resources Israel has are from God! They don’t need Babylonic America! This administration pretends to be concerned for Israel’s welfare, all the while plotting to help Israel’s enemies, a 35 year old tactic. Quit telling Israel whats best for its own interest and but out! There was evidence of Cairo importing Scud missile parts from North Korea…ignored. 239 members of congress called for the PLO office in Washington to be closed in response to the PLOS drive for state-observer -status at the United Nations…Like I said, the non-actions taken against Iran, lining up with all the other bogus policies of the Obama administration prove another destructive avenue against Israel, many of us get information you will never know about. The time is coming when Israel’s enemies are going to be destroyed. “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples, all who would heave it away will surely be cut to pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it. Zechariah 12:2-9.

Israel should move its embassy to Philadelphia and refuse to recognize Washington as the US capital; denounce the doctrine of “Manifest Destiny” as racist; denounce the Louisiana Purchase as a bit of theft (from Spain, via an illegal deal with France); denounce the illegal settlements in Texas which resulted in the annexation of that state; protest against housing units being built in the Southwest on occupied-Mexican land;and demand that the US withdraw to its 1804 boundaries.

    Fair?

    • Sheik Yerbouti

Actually there are a LOT of people who would be fine with that. The nation is too big to be trusted to the care of the clowns we have in DC now, stumbling over each other to squeeze Americans while posing for pictures. Perhaps, instead of more states we invest in the idea of fewer and let the US split apart. By concentrating the control of resources and promoting internal trading, we would spread out the management risk for 350 million people.

It might also allow the res of the world to concentrate their ire on the particular North Americans that piss them of instead of making assumptions about “ALL Americans” as so may do. Washington DC can becomes what it needs to be; a museum.

      • Sheik Yerbouti

Oh, and Jabotinsky was right. If you can occupy and defend a plot of turf, it’s yours.

        “Clowns”? Or collaborating traitors?

    • TheOrdinaryMan

Well, if the U.S. pressures Israel into releasing murderers from jail, the U.S. should practice what it preaches, and release Jonathan Pollard.

It’s not the Christians Israel had to fear in ’48′, ’67′, ’73′ or even today. It wasn’t Christians Jews had to fear in Entebbe, Munich, or on-board the Achille Lauro. It wasn’t Christians who committed the Jerusalem pogrom in the 1920′s. More than a million Christians died fighting the Nazis, how many muslimes died fighting for the nazis, as opposed to against them?

  • Attila_the_hun

Obama’s and the Democrats obsession with Israeli Arab peace is nothing more than a ruse to destroy The State Of Israel. As the recent events has demonstrated, the real problem in the ME is not Israel rather rivalry and barbarism among Muslims.

      Attila the AKBAR!

Muslims are at War with everybody.

Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Bahais, Zoroastrians and the wrong kind of Muslim.

Muslims have bombed Russia, twice over the past few days.

      • Lanna

The Muslims are going to be dealt with by God almighty! All who go against Israel are going to receive their just reward!

      • defcon 4

I believe the bombing count is now three or four.

  • einnob

The Arabs want to destroy Israel. They have claimed this over and over again. Israel must not compromise with them. This is suicide. Say NO to Kerry and Obama and stay strong .

    • defcon 4

Slip a roofie in Kerry’s drink, dress him up in tallits and a kippah and drop him off in Gaza City. After all, he should have nothing to fear from the peaceable, tolerant, islam0nazis who run Gaza should he?

  • Geoffrey_Britain

The author concludes his missive with the words, ” Leave Israel alone and let them live.” implicitly indicating that he believes the problem is the world’s and especially the Obama administration’s pressure upon Israel to make suicidal concessions. That is NOT ‘the problem’. The problem is Israel’s belief that it cannot survive without US support. All of the ‘pressure’ Israel experiences is the result of that belief and, as long as Israel continues to embrace that falsehood, she will continue to be slowly led to the gallows.

  • Douglas Mayfield

As long America elects vicious, destructive socialists-nihilists, who hate freedom and individual rights, to the office of the Presidency, Israel will be on its own and will be subjected to endless pressure to accommodate the murdering savages, the Palestinians. The sooner everyone recognizes that, the better.
And it will help if, in the next Presidential election, the Republicans nominate someone other than just another cowardly, semi-socialist, RINO who spends the entire campaign trying to ‘out smile’ the next Democratic dealer in socialist poison.
