Nobody Believes In America’s Strength Anymore

140228-putin-0453_3f836c6eea7cd157959100b83f27d3a1This week, Senator John McCain at AIPAC rightfully said that Vladimir Putin’s strong-man tactics are “the ultimate result of a feckless foreign policy in which nobody believes in America’s strength anymore.” As we watch Putin operate with impunity, it’s evident that these actions are because America is not feared or respected. There have been so many repeated foreign policy disasters by the Obama Administration – From Syria to Iran, Benghazi to Egypt, Obama has taken American self-respect and honor to a terrible place.

Obama’s foreign policy in a dangerous world has been an absolute disaster and danger for America. There are so many words of wisdom from some wise people:

Take Jennifer Rubin of the uber-liberal Washington Post: “The president’s embarrassingly weak response to Russian aggression in Europe, following his about-face on Syrian use of WMDs last year and the deeply flawed interim Iran agreement, should unnerve even the most loyal Democrats.” Then, there’s David Kramer, the President of Freedom House, who rightfully noted, “After all, if the authoritarian tyrant Vladimir Putin is allowed to get away with his unprovoked attack against his neighbor, a blatant violation of that country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, then U.S. credibility, already damaged by Obama’s poor handling of Syria, will be down to zero.”

Chris Matthews of MSNBC noted, “The Democrats just don’t have a foreign policy that they’re willing to defend, that they’re willing to use to take down the president’s. We’re dealing with the power of suggestion here.” And then there’s Dan Lieberman, who said, “The U.S. State Department officials seem to watch helplessly as sympathizers to Al Qaeda in Mali, Libya, Syria and Iraq gain strength and support, while the U.S. Defense department scrambles to react to inept foreign policies.” (Indeed, didn’t Obama run on a platform of improving foreign relations? Is there any nation on Planet Earth America has better relations with since Obama took office?)

Kerry Patton, an internationally recognized security expert, noted, “Jimmy Carter allowed the crippling of US Intelligence during the Church and Pike Committees in an attempt to appease the American people. He is often considered America’s worst President and his foreign policy could easily be argued as the most horrific foreign policy in American history[.]”

And as Rubin of Washington Post also opined in a recent column, “This president is far worse as commander in chief than Jimmy Carter, who was naive but serious and sincere; Carter also learned something when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan. Obama is the least serious commander in chief we have had, disastrously at one of the most dangerous times since WWII … Obama’s grievous defeats and grievous errors are America’s. All members of Congress who blindly follow him will be equally responsible for the dangers that result.”  Americans today are wondering how long we will suffer from the after-effects of Obama’s administration.

So many across the political aisle have noted that Putin and others take positions because they know there is a weak leader. As James F. Meehan said, “The U.S. has lost prestige in the world and is perceived as weak. This has created a dangerous situation. Unfortunately Obama’s hand on the helm is not ‘steady,’ it is shaky.”

And I, Ronn Torossian, would concur – Obama is a complete and utter disaster. Scary times.

Kristen Soltis Anderson, a leading millennial pollster, studies numbers — and any political observer of the world can see and realize for very good reason that “Americans have grown frustrated with Obama’s handling of our relations with the world over the last year. The most recent polls show half of Americans disapprove of the job Obama is doing at handling foreign affairs[.]”

In many ways, Nile Gardiner, a British conservative commentator, nailed it squarely on the head, saying, “The White House’s strategy has been one of abject confusion, with no clear leadership from the president. Barack Obama’s approach has been one of ‘leading from behind,’ a phrase first coined by one of his own advisers. He has been content to farm out US foreign policy to a feckless United Nations, and has kowtowed to a ruthless Moscow, which views Syria as a client state, a useful bulwark against American influence in the Middle East, and a thorn in the side of the world’s superpower.”

Obama’s foreign policy may work in policy papers in academia – but in the real world it has been an absolute disaster. America’s foreign policy and national security has fallen apart. On every single front the Obama Administration has failed miserably. America has suffered tremendously during the Obama reign. How many days left till we have a new President?

Obama has been an amazing President – for the rest of the world. Many world nations are stronger politically because of America’s weakness. The scales have tipped – its no longer America the almighty.

    • Gerry

To the rest of the world, the word is not amazing, but rather amusing. The world watches in disbelief, the antics of the liar in chief.Great entertainment value,we can hardly wait for the next episode, never a dull moment,a laugh a nano second.Unfortunately,as you say,America is not the almighty anymore.America is an almighty joke.

  • JVictor

Early in Obama’s presidency, I was willing to use terms like “incompetent, “over his head,” and allow for terms such as “feckless.” That ship sailed long ago. From bowing to world leaders to supporting every destabilizing movement in the Middle East to making threats that he has no intention of keeping Obama has purposefully sabotaged the institutions and reputation of this once great nation. His father’s dream of fundamentally transforming the United States is being realized all around us. The man is diabolically brilliant. And he needs to be arrested and tried for treason.

  • Johnny

Feckless strikes me as exactly the right word. Not so much incompetent as careless. He really does not care all that much how things turn out.

The other side of it is that we are not so much weak as dangerously ineffective. We still flex our muscles quite a bit and get engaged in war, but without much regard for outcomes. We are just there because it seems like the thing to do at the moment.

  • Von Stierlitz

Don’t blame comrade Ibn Hussein (pbuh) and his apparatchiks. Blame yourselves (The People) for allowing all this to happen.

    • von Judenlieber

I must regretfully agree with you Herr Stierlitz, especially after the 2012 election. A nation that would elect this guy TWICE, probably doesn’t deserve to survive.

    • Drakken

I completely concur. If the American people wanted this idiot, they deserve what is coming.

  • wileyvet

This goes to prove how the insidious communist leftist thinking has permeated the fabric of America for so long that even the President has been fully indoctrinated to see America as the problem in the world. Manchurian Candidate? It is truly a shame the American political culture has been so radicalized and the population at large so blinded by Statist agendas over decades to have made the election of a charlatan possible, and that it is now considered de rigueur to vote for more and more radical candidates.

Sun Tsu figured out the equation of having force and using force over twenty-five hundred years ago. Only if America was actually weak would there be any need to pretend that we are strong. Because we are not weak, there is no need to pretend to be strong. Let our enemies think we are weak, if they will, then let them find out we’re not, if they dare. Russia is not our enemy. China is not our enemy. Our enemies are the liars and the hypocrites who want us to waste our resources on conflicts that do not involve the national security of the United States.

    • BagLady

Well said TP. Sun Tsu was a wise man indeed. Pity gung-ho readers on this site don’t take a more circumspect approach. What exactly do the anti-Obama camp think should be done in Sevastopol? Putin has quietly marched in and, without firing a bullet, retaken the Crimea. This is a very important move on his part, given the port’s strategic importance.

I presume resurrecting the Cold War and anti ‘communism’ will give a rest to the eternal Islam conversation and the CIA and Department for the Expansion of American Democracy (DEAD) can concentrate their operations on destabilising the whole area.

I see the White House is hell-bent on handing over $billions to the bent and bankrupt Ukrainian government. I wouldn’t be too happy to hear this if I came from Detroit.

      • Texas Patriot

What’s happening in the Ukraine has nothing to do with the Cold War except in the fantasies of the old Cold Warriors in the West who long for a war that they think they understand. At this point in time, all the major powers, and by that I mean America, Russia, and China, are well aware that their strategic interests require cooperation in the ongoing struggle against the forces of Islamic jihad, which have never been stronger.

Think of it this way. Obama needs Putin’s cooperation on Iran. If the Iranian mullahs make the huge mistake of thinking that Obama is not serious in his intent to prevent them from acquiring nuclear weapons (as they almost undoubtedly are), Obama will need Putin to stand aside while America takes action to surgically remove Iran’s nuclear weapons complex. Because another land war is out of the question, and because the Iranian nuclear weapons facilities are deeply buried and probably very difficult, if not impossible, to reach with conventional technology, it may well take bunker-busting technology like the world has never seen before to do the job, and it may even require the use of bunker-busting technology equipped with subterranean tactical nuclear warheads.

Do we imagine that Putin will be able to stand aside If America is forced to use specially designed, nuclear equipped, subterranean bunker-busting technology in order to pull the nuclear teeth of the wolves of Iran? Very difficult question. Normally, I’d say that the clamor from the old Cold Warriors in Russia would probably be overwhelming. But in this case, Putin now has a brand new prize to show them, i.e. America’s acquiescence in Russia’s takeover of the Ukraine. Plus, there is no doubt that Russia will be first in line for the lucrative contracts to rebuild the Iranian nuclear weapons complex once we destroy them. It would be a win-win for Russia and America and the rest of the civilized world combined.

So yes, it is a very difficult and complicated situation that Sun Tsu would no doubt find fascinating. But all things considered, I think he would approve of the way Obama is handling it.

        • Drakken

Your good buddy Obummer isn’t going to bomb Iran, not today, not tomorrow and not in the next 3 years. You can take that to the bank.

          • Texas Patriot

The deal has already been done. Putin got the Ukraine. In exchange, he’s going to leave the mullahs dangling in the breeze if push comes to shove. The only way the mullahs can avoid the surgical removal of their nuclear weapons complex is to permit complete and verifiable inspections from now on into perpetuity, and we all know they’re not going to agree to that. Did you notice the way Chuck Hagel quietly mobilized to shut down Little Kim in N. Korea when he was threatening to nuke Hawaii? Hagel doesn’t say a lot, but he’s always prepared. If Obama gave the word tonight, the Iranian nuclear weapons complex would cease to exist by daybreak tomorrow. Believe it or not, your choice. But in your heart, you know I’m right. Why? Because I’m the last surviving follower of Barry Goldwater, and I know a real fighter when I see one. ;-)

        • BagLady

The thing is you see, the thinking that keeps your mind and mine apart, is that you see Iran as THE nuclear threat to the world and I see you lot over there making a mountain out of a molehill and stirring the people’s emotions l to justify a ‘preemptive’ strike to save the world against Islam as the Devil Incarnate.

POOF! An whole nation is gone in a mess of chemicals and bits of metal. The whole area is contaminated for the foreseeable future (like thousands of years) but no matter, the West has saved us from the Whirling Dervishes. Hoorah.

          • Texas Patriot

Let me see if I can help you out a bit. The Islamic Revolutionary Party of Iran as established by the Ayatollah Khomeini is committed to global Islamic jihad and the overthrow of all non-Muslim countries. Allowing them to develop the capacity to produce nuclear weapons and distribute them to jihadist operatives worldwide would be suicidal for Western Civilization, and there is no question about that. That said, it is probably the case as Christopher Hitchens said in 2009 that no more than 5-10 percent of the Iranian people are committed to the jihadist philosophy of the government now in control.

On the other hand, you are mistaken about the idea that we would have to destroy the entire nation in order to destroy Iran’s nuclear weapons complex. Although there is some chance that the deeply buried nuclear weapons facilities could be destroyed by conventional warheads, the greater likelihood is that special bunker busting technology equipped with tactical nuclear warheads would be required to complete the job.

In that regard, don’t make the mistake of assuming that all nuclear weapons are the same. We have made enormous strides in nuclear weapons technology since August 6, 1945, and it should now be possible to construct bunker-busting warheads that penetrate beneath the surface and deliver their explosive effect downward into the ground where the Iranian nuclear weapons laboratories are thought to be buried. As such, the damage to the atmosphere and the Iranian people should be minimal or non-existent, and the elimination of the Iranian nuclear weapons complex should be complete. And I have no doubt that Chuck Hagel & Co. at the Pentagon are perfecting just such a system even as we speak.

Look at it this way. If we could put a man on the Moon and bring him back alive more than forty years ago, we should be able to develop the technology necessary to destroy an illegal nuclear weapons lab today, even if it is hidden in laboratories buried deeply beneath a mountain range in Iran.

Pity leftist idiots can’t see the reality of the Obama camp. Right thinking people realize that there is nothing that can be done, now! The time for the coward in the WH to act was at the beginning of his tenure instead of signaling to the world that he would not act to protect our allies no matter the provacations. The removal of the missile defense of Poland was the last guarantee that Putin needed for his long signaled plan to annex all of the former Soviet satellites.

If you agree with him — which no doubt you do — then in the interest of fairness, shouldn’t you apply the same argument to the Ukraine and Putin?

    • Drakken

You obviously didn’t understand Sun Tzu and what his thinking was. Your faith in this administration is really stunning in naiveté and wishful thinking.

10 Now then, you kings, act wisely!
Be warned, you rulers of the earth!
11 Serve the Lord with reverent fear,
    and rejoice with trembling.
12 Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry,
and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities—
for his anger flares up in an instant.

For years I have called Obama an inept, narcissistic jackanapes. Seems the rest of the nation is finally coming around to my view.

‘This week, Senator John McCain at AIPAC rightfully said that Vladimir Putin’s strong-man tactics are “the ultimate result of a feckless foreign policy in which nobody believes in America’s strength anymore”.’

feckless: Lacking purpose or vitality; feeble or ineffective.

Putin has Crimea. So he was not ineffective.

Putin had 2 purposes . it was to quell internal dissent from people encourage by the Ukrainian protests. It was also irredentist.

“For Putin, the Ukraine is About More Than Just Territory”

If Putin prevails it will not have been feeble nor without vitality. If Putin wins in a larger way by taking the eastern Donbas, the Ukraine rump state will be without vitality.

In the 18th century the Polish rump state was served up to Russia, Prussia and Austria. Rump State …it is what’s for dinner.

“Americans today are wondering how long we will suffer from the after-effects of Obama’s administration.”

It seems bizarre to me that our nation has to remain captive to an incompetent President until his term expires. We have to put up with 3 more years of ruinous policies, appointments and executive orders because there is no way to remove the man responsible from office? It’s like an abused woman being told that she has to suffer for 3 more years before the court can protect her from her abuser. Why can’t a vote of “no confidence” suffice to oust an incompetent executive?

  • Dyer’s Eve

Impeach Obama! Force him to profess his Islamic faith.

  • Igor

You don’t even ask if Russian action is morally justified or not. Your only concern is that you haven’t been asked. You just became a brute super-power without any self-need for moral justification. You seem feeling well with that. This is exactly the reason you are no longer being esteemed or been respected. You want more strength? This is exactly what Fascist Germany or Soviet USSR were in desperate need for just before their demise. You lost your moral compass. This is the reason nobody pays you respect for. This is an usual long known imperial disease and you’ll be cured as all other before.

    • Igor

“… nobody believes in America’s strength anymore?”
      – Nobody believes in America’s moral right anymore.

Yes Obama is a disaster that every grade 12 student can see……the leftist are being sore losers, the reason why they lie, cheat and blame others to cover for the lack of leadership.
I saw the interview with O’Reily. this morning I listen to the findings of Glen Beck about the real Obama……… I don not understand why they are not trying to impeach this liar and cheater and his lack of knowledge, it almost smells like treason, purposely destroying a nation and the values…… every politician is more or less accepting this traitor to continue with his moral less conduct effecting every American now and for decades to come……….

  • poetcomic1

We have more important concerns with Putin than the invasion of Ukraine. The human rights outrage of homosexuals being forbidden to recruit in Russian schools.

  • SoCalMike

Why would any leader or commander respect waify Boy Obama??
Men can recognize a weakling without any backbone when they see one.
Beyond the faculty lounge and mentally socially conformed masses, Obama impresses no one as a thinking man or leader or executive.
He says whatever he thinks he needs to in order to get whatever he wants or thinks people want to hear.
The mass media dirt who sold this fraud to the public deserve a horse whipping.

More talk here, but also a bunch of lazy americans that only talk big in forums like these, but will not do anything about it, except read write, then turn around and eat while letting this country fall…When and how are we going to at least start to do something? I’m sure everyone will be crying when there is no constitution and america is attacked, probably invited to by the guy you all voted for and now regret it. we shouldn’t have accepted the media as being able to report the truth in all matters, the only truth they tell consistently is when…. well i can’t think of any, can you?…this could linger on or it could be something else, but if people don’t act soon there may not be a later to act on=This is what our president seems to want, – War, maybe not right away, but in time before impeachment and or elections it will be marshal law, then where will you post you big talk?

Nobody Believes In America’s Strength Anymore

Why should they? Look at our fairly recent history. In 1990 when a secular Saddam did us a great big favor by invading Kuwait and also threatening to invade the Saudis and the Gulf States, what did Bush I do? He sided with the Islamic totalitarian world that is our mortal enemy today to push Saddam out of Kuwait on their behalf, when he could have just as easily let Saddam do us a great big favor by destroying the Islamic world for us, as it didn’t matter one iota who we ultimately purchased our oil from, either the Saudis and Gulf States or Saddam. What a missed opportunity! Not to mention that if Saddam would have subsequently been resistant to dealing fairly with us, we could have simply later on ousted Saddam.

Then both stooges: Bush I and Bill Clinton waged jihads as proxies on the behalf of the Islamic totalitarian world against our fellow infidel Christian allies the Christian Serbs in the Balkans, citing PC multiculturalism as the justification.

Then in 2001, immediately following the 9/11 violent jihad attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, GWB proclaimed Islam to be a so-called “religion of peace” and the vast overwhelming majority of Muslims in the world to be peaceful and moderate people, with the exception, of course, of a tiny minority of radical Muslim extremists who misunderstand the beautiful “religion of peace”. It was a lie perpetrated upon the American people every bit as profound as the lies Obama told to the American people to sell his Obamacare debacle.

He then used the threat of more violent jihad attacks in America after 9/11 to massively increase the size, scope, and power of the federal government like a Dhimmicrat on steroids to create the gargantuan Department of Homeland Security and the massive National Intelligence Directorate, when common sense dictated banning and reversing mass Muslim immigration with all of its excess baggage instead, as zero Muslims in America would equal zero violent and non-violent jihad in America. Indeed, without mass Muslim immigration with all of its excess baggage to America before 9/11, the 9/11 violent jihad attacks would have been absolutely impossible.

If that wasn’t enough, he then occupied two Islamic countries to stop radical Islam from hijacking the so-called “religion of peace” and to also bring democracy to the Islamic totalitarian world. As part of this incredibly fantasy-based mission, he then appointed Zalmay Khalilzad, a Muslim, to first be the Ambassador to Afghanistan and then subsequently to Iraq.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad proceeded to install Sharia (Islamic totalitarian law) as the highest authority of law in each country’s respective constitutions and thereby ensured at the same time that both countries would inevitably become Islamic totalitarian hellholes as opposed to democracies and like all Islamic totalitarian hellholes today, our eternal mortal enemy as well. Indeed, the Afghanistan and Iraq nation-building missions inevitably became the two biggest strategic blunders ever in American history.

Finally, it is the undeniable mission of Barack Hussein Obama to not only fundamentally transform America economically into an economic basket case, but also to weaken America militarily, as Obama blames America for all the ills of the world, since like virtually all Marxists he believes that America has raped the world’s resources and that America achieved it superpower status at the expense of the rest of the world.
