Ben Shapiro: The Myth or The True Story of Michael Brown, Gentle Giant

Ben Shapiro exposes the truth behind the media-created myth of Gentle Giant Michael Brown, the unarmed teen gunned down in cold blood by a white racist cop for the crime of walking while black. Except that every part of that story is a lie. See the video and transcript below:

TRANSCRIPT:

Everything you know about Michael Brown is a lie. The media, the politicians, the race-baiters – they all told you the story of the innocent young, unarmed black teen, the Gentle Giant, murdered in cold blood by a vicious white cop representing the evil establishment.

Al Sharpton, who is always first on the scene when a black person is killed by a white – or, in the case of St. Trayvon of the Blessed Hoodie, a white Hispanic – described Brown as a “gentle giant,” too. Over at Daily Kos, a writer described St. Michael as a “big guy who his family called their ‘Gentle Giant’…built to be a high school football player – direct from central casting – but Mike was too timid for the sport. According to friends and family, he had never been in a fight in his life.” CNN, The Daily Mail – all of them called him a “gentle giant.”

And the man who deprived the world of this “gentle giant” was, of course, Officer Darren Wilson.

Originally, we were told that Wilson shot Brown from behind, after pulling over the “gentle giant” for walking in the middle of the street – a situation President Obama would later term “walking while black.” Supposedly, Wilson pulled the 6’5”, 289-lb. Brown through his driver’s side window, but Brown escaped and ran away from this mad emissary of police brutality. Wilson then allegedly shot the fleeing Brown from behind, at which point Brown turned around, raised his hands in the universal sign of surrender, and perished in a hail of bullets.

Here’s the reality. All of this was a lie.

The first crack in the myth of St. Michael, the Gentle Giant, came in the form of a security tape, taken just minutes before the fatal confrontation with Officer Wilson.

According to police reports, the Gentle Giant, who had never been in a fight and was too timid to play football, grabbed a small attendant and slammed him into a display case. He also stole a box of Swisher Sweets, which are cheap cigars.

The next crack in the St. Michael story,  The New York Times reported that Michael Brown “was no angel.” The report explained that he “dabbled in drugs and alcohol” – which, presumably, is why he stole a cheap box of Swisher Sweets from that convenience store, since Swisher Sweets are routinely used to smoke pot. Indeed, Brown’s system was chock full of THC during the incident with Officer Wilson, the autopsy showed.

The New York Times report also explained that Brown “had taken to rapping in recent months, producing lyrics that were by turns contemplative and vulgar.”

Here’s a sampling of St. Michael’s music, culled by Gateway Pundit:

My favorite part is when that body hits the ground.

I soak em up like I’m wringing out a sponge

Talking down make me shoot off your whole tongue

The words of the blessed saint.

The media and politicians cried bloody murder when this information began to tarnish the candle-lit altar they’d built for St. Michael – just because St. Michael had strong-arm robbed a convenience store, done drugs, and cut some vile rap videos didn’t mean he deserved to be shot!

Which, of course, was true. But the rest of the mythical tale of the martyrdom of St. Michael began falling apart, as well.

Officer Wilson’s side of the story began to come out, in dribs and drabs: after pulling Brown over, Wilson said, Wilson tried to get out of his car – Brown shut the door on him, then pushed himself through the driver’s side window. He went for Wilson’s weapon, whereupon Wilson fired the gun in the vehicle. Brown ran. Wilson chased him. Brown then turned around and ran toward Wilson, whereupon Wilson shot him several times.

According to the Washington Post, “more than a half-dozen unnamed black witnesses have provided testimony…that supports Wilson’s account of the events….blood spatter analysis, shell casings and ballistics tests – also support Wilson’s account of the shooting, the Post sources said.”

Now, a new autopsy report revealed by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch – the same newspaper that originally termed Brown a “Gentle Giant” – showed that Brown’s body had a “graze wound” on his thumb; the wound contained matter “consistent with products that are discharged from the barrel of a firearm.” That can only happen at close range – so close, in fact, that there was no stippling – a patterning of gunpowder that will not appear within an inch of the gun barrel. In other words, as San Francisco medical examiner Dr. Judy Melinek said, “this guy is reaching for the gun.”

The autopsy backs up the altercation at the car as well – Brown’s skin was found on the exterior of the vehicle.  CNN reports that blood from Michael Brown was found on Wilson’s uniform, police car, and gun.

The autopsy even gives shows that Brown was shot with his hands up. According to the autopsy report, the gunshot wound to St. Michael’s “upper dorsal right arm” demonstrated that the direction of the shot was “slightly upward, backward and leftward.” That means, according to Melinek, the shot “traveled from the back of the arm to the inner arm, which means Brown’s palms could not have been facing Wilson.”

The rage continues, of course, because facts don’t matter when myths have already taken root. Benjamin Crump, the Brown family lawyer – he was also the Martin family attorney – said that “family and supporters will not be persuaded by the autopsy report or eyewitness statements,” according to the Washington Post. And, of course, local politicians have pledged that the evidence won’t change anything.

Meanwhile, the disciples of Michael Brown pay tribute to his Gentle Giantness by fighting over how to capitalize on his supposed martyrdom. Michael Brown’s mother, Lesley McSpadden, reportedly got into a fight with Brown’s grandmother and cousin when she found them selling Michael Brown merchandise. The altercation ended, apparently, with another unnamed person hitting Brown’s cousin in the face with a pipe or pole, resulting in his hospitalization. The suspect then stole a box from the scene containing some $1,400.

But never mind – the legacy of Michael Brown, Gentle Giant, will go on. Another martyr has joined the Racial Testament. Another fake black mark on white racist police forces everywhere. And the left’s aggressive construction of the myth of St. Michael the Gentle Giant ensures that more young black men will see police as the enemy, that confrontations will escalate, and that the left will have many more future opportunities to add to their perverse canon.

Never before has a president enticed such evil.
I don’t know how you escaped the brainwashing at j-school, Ben. But thank God you did!

  • rmbork

Too bad we have such short memories. Remember Tawana Brawley? This is just more of the same — except that now there is a rush to judgment by the government that is sworn to protect its citizenry so hate is fomented and divisiveness exacerbated.

So when Officer Wilson backed up to this ghettobanger, moments after admonishing him to clear the street, Brown must have been acutely aware that he was in danger of being “busted” for robbery and assault, and that “frisking” would discover the “weed” he had on his person. The autopsy report notes that a “leafy green substance,” identified as marijuana, had been “submitted into evidence.” (Source: Darren Wilson says Michael Brown kept charging at him, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 10-22-14.) Possession of marijuana is a serious offense in Missouri. Brown was looking at impending disaster. No sane prosecutor would go to a jury on this set of facts. The defense would argue, persuasively, that Brown, confronted with the prospect of jail time, panicked, and attacked the officer. I don’t offhand see a plausible rejoinder.

    • johnlac

There is no plausible rejoinder. But that is beside the point. The narrative, another innocent black male gunned down for no reason by a racist white cop, is far more important.
What is more startling is the fact that about seven thousand black males are shot and killed by other black males every year. That’s about twenty a day. But the black community decides that nasty, racist, white cops shooting a black thug every three days or so is a crime of monumental proportions.
I was leery of this story when I first heard accounts of a white policemen stopping his car simply to shoot an innocent black male who was simply walking down the street. Or the middle of the street. Then the accounts of the policeman trying to pull the huge Brown into his vehicle through the window made me laugh. Sure, cops always try to pull perps through the car window. Especially perps who are 6’5 and 300 lbs.
I thought to myself: what story are the race vultures trying to peddle now? What they were trying to peddle was their typical lies about racist white oppression of black people. As usual, like in the Tawana Sharpton case, their lies fell like an avalanche back onto them.

Their primary audience is easily sold with snappy slogans and short quips. Long, drawn-out logical discussion do NOT work on black Americans. The whole time you are talking they are looking for a racial wedge to trip you on.

They’re down to their last bag of tricks as they become marginalized by Hispanics. Blacks have to learn to take care of themselves soon. The Hispanics will soon take all of their political pull like thieves in the night.

Nobody in America will feel sorry for blacks as they fade into obscurity. Most will be glad to see their rude nature gone. They have done this to themselves.

    • Gee

The only possible rejoinder is that he was black so automatically immune to prosecution because America once had slavery

    • justwantedtocomment

While I agree with your assessment, it could also be argued that Brown was not in fear of his pot being discovered, because he defied the officer’s orders to get out of the street. If he was afraid of being frisked, why, at that point, did he not simply say, “Yes sir,” and move to the sidewalk?

Brown’s friend (Darian somebody?) has stated that they didn’t immediately leave the center of the street because they were ‘almost home.” What would be the reasoning behind such a statement? Ones distance from a destination is irrelevant – all they needed to do was take ten steps to the right or left to get to a sidewalk and continue walking towards home. That ‘reason’ for the acceptability of remaining in the street just makes no sense.

      • archon41

They didn’t have time to get out of the street. Look at Wilson’s account, in the article I reference. His recognition of Brown as a robbery suspect was almost instantaneous. He intended to conduct an investigative detention, not deliver himself of a lecture on obstructing the public road. You can’t believe a word that comes from Dorian’s lips.

So why were they in the street to begin with? The toxicology findings, referred to in the autopsy report, strongly suggests they were “high.”

        • justwantedtocomment

          Thanks – yes, Dorian.

My point was just that Dorian’s explanation for their not getting out of the street makes no sense, which means his credibility is further damaged. Proximity to the destination has no bearing on whether there’s some advantage to being in the middle of the street, or … it just makes no sense. Based on the officer’s account, they were walking down the middle of the street and there was traffic moving down that street going both directions. In other words, their presence in the center of the street made them a road hazard.

The explanation Dorian gave Wilson as to why they weren’t getting over to the sidewalk was that they were ‘almost home’. Well, when they reached home, they were going to have to move out of the road… yes? So why is being ‘almost home’ a reason to remain in the road?

          It’s not.

Their refusal to move to the side of the road speaks to their attitude. There was no need to be where they were, no advantage to it, and their presence was hazardous to other drivers. Whether or not they really even said that, why he thought that explanation was helpful to their position makes no sense.

At the same time, it’s curious that they would disregard the officer’s request in the first place, given that they had reason to want to avoid engagement with the law altogether. Given the fact that they had just committed a robbery and that they were carrying pot, you’d think they’d have told Wilson, “Sorry, officer – we’ll move over,” and moved out of the road.

          • cjkcjk

Actually the officer did notice that the ‘gentile giant’ was in possession of the possibly stolen cigars. The police chief Jackson is responsible for this disinformation. This now ex-chief appears to be a craven coward to me at this point.

          • justwantedtocomment

He did, but not immediately, correct? As far as we know – based on the leaks – didn’t he notice them as he was pulling away from them?

Either way, in the beginning, based on what we are hearing, the only thing the officer engaged them about was their being in the street and nothing more. It’s just weird to me that they didn’t want to stay off the officer’s radar and simply get to the sidewalk. I’d have been doing whatever I needed to do to look like law-abiding, compliant person at that point. The fact that they were passive aggressive with him from the get-go says something.

          • cjkcjk

He states that he saw the cigars At least that’s what I read.

          • justwantedtocomment

What I read was that his initial assessment of their behavior included only that they were walking in the street and impeding traffic. Then, after speaking to them and proceeding forward just a bit, he realized they matched the description of the robbers he’d heard a call about, and noticed that at least one of them was carrying cigars. My understanding was that that was when he backed up. That doesn’t make great sense, because it seems odd that he would not expect them to follow through with his urging them to get out of the street, and would just drive on forward. Hopefully we’ll get answers at some point.

Excellent synopsis of the Truth and Facts of the Case.
    Thanks, Mr. Shapiro

  • Cappy1437

If Obama had a son he would be like Michael Brown. He’s collecting sons. So far, what I’m counting is 3; Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown and Bowe Berghdahl. Maybe there’s more. A president we should be so proud of. He likes the losers who threaten people, agitate, steal and want to be the enemy. Just the kind of president any country would be so proud of.

  • Gee

Just like the American throwing a molotov cocktail at Israeli police was just a harmless prank – according to the US State Department.

The facts never seem to matter to leftists

  • victoryman

…….and the truth shall set ye free. Thank you, Ben. You are right on target….as usual.

  • Me_Mongo

What struck me about this case is how bold the race baiters in our Government have become. Eric Holder sent in 40 FBI agents in immediately before any hint of any wrong doing could have taken place. Of course there still has been no indication of any wrong doing by the Police yet they have the fix for those “racist cops” that Holder’s minions are beginning to unveil.

  • MrUniteUs1

Forensic expert Shapiro cited, debunked St. Louis Dispatch article. For example she never said Brown reached for the gun.

The whole incident is an example of traditional liberal racism. They promote the Brown incident yet sweep under the rug the shooting of Dillon Taylor desptie the fact the 2 incidents are very similar – except for race. Liberals judge everyone on the basis of their ethnic background rather than their actions. Liberalism is racism.

  • truebearing

Now our media and government are casting violent punks as “gentle.” Soon, black murderers will be cast as population control activists.

  • arcturus

I just can’t wait for the Michael and Trayvon postage stamps to come out. Maybe they will both be on the same design.

  • DennisMets

This is how much blacks hate whites, and would do anything to keep the hate a live or would do any thing for an excuse to play knock out games or bullly your whites kids in school. blacks need to keep racism alive so they can keep their racist benefits forever and black politicians need to keep the racism alive so they can stay in power

  • DennisMets

and innocent whites are the ones that pay for all this bs and lies, because the blacks that are programmed to hate the devil privileged whites have been given an excuse to roam around hunting for whites to beat down and that happens all the time a teen shot a homeless man to death in florida every where you look black thug kids are raping little girls in school or beating up every one else

  • DennisMets

brown is just the kind of thug that bullies people wow gentle giant lmao he is the kinda kid that beats smaller kids at schools and takes whatever he wants from them and terrorizes them and makes them live in fear or the kinda kid that rapes little girls and threatens them to the point they dont report it

  • Red Baker

“The autopsy even gives shows that Brown was shot with his hands up. ”

Please fix that sentence. It is not true and not grammatical.

  • joe kulak

The whole narrative is diversionary. The reality is that black youth, less than 13% of the population, are responsible for ~50% of violent crime. There is an epidemic of crime committed by black youth — we should ignore this and instead focus on the less than 1% of arrests that result in police shooting the suspect? Look over there… a squirrel!

  • tagalog

The autopsy even gives shows that Brown was shot with his hands up. According to the autopsy report, the gunshot wound to St. Michael’s “upper dorsal right arm” demonstrated that the direction of the shot was “slightly upward, backward and leftward.” That means, according to Melinek, the shot “traveled from the back of the arm to the inner arm, which means Brown’s palms could not have been facing Wilson.”

Can anyone reduce that to understandable English for me? Were Brown’s hands up or were they not up? Was Wilson in front of him or behind him when Brown was shot?

Did Brown put his hands up with his back to Wilson preparatory to throwing them down in a gesture of frustration, or was he attacking Wilson with his hands above his head and his head down in a bull-like charge, so that one of Wilson’s rounds penetrated the front of Brown’s head, then passed through his head and into his arm? Or something else?

    • JayWye

when you are running, your arms are usually in front of your body, the forearm across your chest, swinging roughly up and down. the shot enters the back of the forearm(upper part of the swing),travels through to the upper arm.(bicep area) It would be consistent with the officer trying to hit the torso. also, your palms would not be facing forward.
      Does that help any?

      • tagalog

Or you could be running towards the cop, your head down to protect yourself and your arms stretched in front of you to grab him. So no, it doesn’t help all that much. What people USUALLY do is not much of an indication about what happened in this particular incident.

  • CapitalistPig

The only thing missing from this case is Obama saying “It’s obvious the police acted stupidly”.
