The desperate antics of an invented people.

The Tel Dan Stele

In December 2011, former House Speaker and presidential candidate, Newt Gingrich made the following observation regarding the Palestinians;

Remember there was no Palestine as a state. It was part of the Ottoman Empire. And I think that we’ve had an invented Palestinian people, who are in fact Arabs, and were historically part of the Arab community…

That comment set off a firestorm of debate and criticism but is in actuality, grounded in historical fact. As noted historian Benny Morris pointed out in his acclaimed book, 1948: The First Arab-Israeli War, at the turn of the 20th century, most Arabs residing in the Land of Israel or “Palestine” considered themselves to be subjects of the Ottoman Empire. There were some Palestinian Arabs with vague nationalistic tendencies but even this minority considered itself to be part of Greater Syria. There simply was no reference to an independent Palestine for a distinct group of people calling themselves “Palestinians.”

Morris also perceptively notes that the residents of Palestinian villages routinely failed to come to the assistance of nearby villages that were under attack by Jewish forces thus reinforcing the view that Arab villagers felt little loyalty to all but clan and village. The notion of a “Palestinian people” was an alien concept to the common Palestinian villager who was not bound by any sense of duty to assist a neighboring village.

Occasionally, Palestinians themselves will acknowledge this fact. In a revealing 1977 interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw, PLO executive committee member Zahir Muhsein stated,

The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct ‘Palestinian people’ to oppose Zionism.

For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa. While as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.

It was a rare but astonishing moment of candor. A senior PLO member was openly acknowledging what few would readily admit. But his was not an isolated admission. In a March 2012 televised address, Hamas Minister of the Interior and of National Security Fathi Hammad essentially validated Gingrich’s assessment of the Palestinians. While pleading for Egyptian fuel, Hammad let loose with a series of embarrassing admissions that were certainly not intended for Western audiences.

“Every Palestinian…throughout Palestine can prove his Arab roots, whether from Saudi Arabia or Yemen or anywhere.” He went on to say that “personally, half my family is Egyptian, we are all like that.” And further buries himself deeper by stating, “Brothers, half the Palestinians are Egyptian and the other half are Saudis…Who are the Palestinians?” he asks rhetorically. “We have families called al-Masri whose roots are Egyptian, Egyptian! We are Egyptian! We are Arab! We are Muslim!” He concludes his rant with the obligatory Muslim battle cry, “Allahuakbar!” Curiously absent from his long diatribe is any recognition of an independent Palestinian identity and that’s precisely because there simply isn’t any.

Lacking their own independent history, culture and identity, Palestinians have adopted a strategy of denying Jewish history. Arafat, for example, flat out denied the fact that great Jewish Temples, built first by king Solomon and then by Herod, once stood where the Al-Aqsa Mosque currently stands. So ridiculous were his comments that they earned a swift rebuke from President Clinton. Arafat’s successor, Mahmoud Abbas taking cue from his boss also adopted this odious position. It should therefore come as no surprise that Abbas is also a confirmed Holocaust denier, despite his transparent efforts to rehabilitate his image for his gullible Western audience.

Palestinian Arabs have also attempted to recruit Western “experts” and academics to their cause. In his insightful book The Fight for Jerusalem: Radical Islam, the West, and the Future of the Holy City, veteran Israeli diplomat Dore Gold chronicles the length to which Arab-Muslims and their Western lackeys will go to deny the Jewish nexus to the Land of Israel. They argued that much of ancient Jewish history was nothing but mythology including the Kingdoms of David and Solomon.

From the Arab perspective, the tactic was a sound one. Sever the ancient historical Jewish nexus with Israel and you severely undermine claims of indigenousness. But archeology does not lie and those very Western academics (at least the intellectually honest ones) were forced to retract their findings and conclusions after the dramatic 1993 discovery of a 9th century stele at Tel Dan in northern Israel that clearly referenced the “House of David.” Additional discoveries since then, including finds in Jerusalem, Tel Zayit and at the Fortress of Elah have further eroded claims by skeptics and naysayers.

Not content with denying Jewish history, Palestinian Arabs have actually attempted to co-opt it by absurdly claiming that Moses as well as King Saul were Palestinian Muslims who conquered and claimed “Palestine” for the benefit of Palestinians. These risible comments were spewed forth by “Dr.” Omar Ja’ara, a lecturer at Al-Najah University in Nablus and broadcast on Palestinian Authority TV. He notes further that the actions of Moses and Saul represented “the first Palestinian liberation through armed struggle to liberate Palestine… this is our logic and this is our culture.”

Incidentally, Al-Najah University boasts on its website that it is “the first Palestinian University to obtain the EFQM European Certificate of Excellence.” Something to bear in mind next time any parent contemplates sending their child off to Europe for higher education.

Of course it doesn’t matter that Saul lived approximately 1,700 years before Muhammad was zygote. Facts play absolutely no role in Palestinian academia. Empirical data and evidence is ignored. Precedence is given to upholding a false, pernicious and viscerally anti-Semitic narrative that either denies historical fact or co-opts it.

As PLO bigwig Zahir Muhsein candidly noted, the claim of a Palestinian identity is a myth whose aim is not designed to achieve liberation or advancement for any particular people but rather to subjugate and destroy another people. For those of you, who still remain unconvinced; consider the recent comments made by a prominent sheikh during a religious sermon at the Al-Aqsa Mosque. During his tirade, which included the usual dose of anti-Semitic vitriol, the sheikh never once uttered a desire or longing for Palestinian statehood. Instead he expresses the desire to join with ISIS in its quest for an Islamic caliphate and asks the large crowd of acolytes surrounding him to, “pledge allegiance to the Muslim Caliph,” and they in turn respond with chants of “amen!”

Few in the West have faced up to this malevolent reality. They continue to adhere to the harmful, dogmatic formula of a two-state solution. What they willfully fail to realize is that such a solution poses an existential threat to the Mideast’s only democracy and will most certainly have grave negative consequences for the region at large.

'America' magazine joins ranks with neo-Nazis in support of Blumenthal screed.

Among critics of Israel today, there emerges a handful whose opposition to the existence of the Jewish State is so pernicious that their criticism can accurately be described as Jew-hatred. Max Blumenthal, a marginal character who is desperately trying to make inroads into the mainstream, stands at the lead of this fringe group of miscreants. Even those on the far left, who are often critical of Israel, find Blumenthal to be a repugnant malcontent. So outrageous is his conduct that his mischief earned him a lifetime ban from the German parliament.

Blumenthal, the author of “Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel,” a book widely viewed as an anti-Semitic screed that one prominent leftist critic noted could easily make it to the top of the “Hamas book of the month club,” has largely been ignored by the mainstream and rightfully so. It represents the modern day equivalent of the notorious Protocols of the Elders of Zion and is filled with invective, conspiracy, distortion, conflation, and outright fabrication designed to malign and disparage the Mideast’s only democracy.

Though most within the mainstream recognize Goliath for what it is, an unscholarly, error-ridden, heap of rubbish, there are still some who flirt with its premise that an “undemocratic,” “racist,” “war-like” Israel is the cause of the Mideast’s ills and the angelic Muslim world remains blameless. Elements within the Catholic Church have unfortunately subscribed to this narrative.

In December, America magazine, a national weekly magazine with Roman Catholic affiliation and published by the Jesuits of the United States, featured an extremely positive review of Blumenthal’s version of Mein Kampf that lacked any form of critical analysis. The reviewer swallows Blumenthal’s racist calumny lock, stock and barrel and accepts its vitriolic premise without reservation or equivocation.

Goliath engages is some of the most pernicious forms of anti-Semitism. Comparisons of Israel with Nazi Germany – a common tactic of Jew haters – are peppered throughout the book with chapters entitled, “The Concentration Camp” and “The Night of Broken Glass,” the latter, a reference to Kristallnacht when Nazi hooligans went on a rampage executing a pogrom against the Jews of Germany. There’s also a near infantile but equally malevolent chapter entitled “How to Kill Goyim and Influence People,” evoking medieval imagery of scheming Jewish plotting to murder non-Jews.

By subscribing to the odious views espoused by Blumenthal, America magazine now finds itself in the unenviable position of being in the same company of various hate groups. Extreme neo-Nazi forums have also taken up Blumenthal’s cause, whose opinions have been cited with approval on Nazi Internet forums like Stormfront as well as by serial murderer, Frazier Glenn Miller, the KKK man who slaughtered three people at two separate Jewish community centers in Overland Park, Kansas.

I considered the possibility that the publication of this review by a prominent Catholic magazine was perhaps a mere oversight and simply reflected a lack of proper editorial review, but a recent editorial by the magazine trashes that possibility. The one-sided editorial blasts Prime Minister Netanyahu and other “Zionist radicals” for obstructing a “two-state solution” and imposing “collective punishment.”

As is customary with Israel bashers, facts harmful to the pro-Palestinian narrative are routinely overlooked making a mockery of any claim to impartiality and insightful analysis. The editors of America fail to note the endless flow of anti-Semitic vitriol and violently hateful rhetoric spewed forth daily from the Palestinian Authority’s propaganda apparatus. It’s an inconvenient truth they prefer to ignore.

They also tend to ignore the heinous acts of murder and butchery leading up to Israel’s imposition of so-called “collective punishment” and shamefully only note these murders within the context of Israeli retaliation. In other words, it takes an act of house demolition to highlight the more egregious act of murder that preceded it. Jewish blood is cheap, but heaven forbid, take down a few cinder blocks, and the self-proclaimed humanitarians of the world scream from the rooftops.

Another salient point brings America magazine’s hypocrisy into sharper focus. While they are indignant over the destruction of less than a half-dozen homes belonging to terrorist-murderers responsible for killing women and children, not a single word is uttered over Egypt’s recent decision to destroy some eight-hundred homes bordering Gaza to pave the way for the construction of an anti-tunnel barrier. And while those slated for house demolition in Israel have the right to appeal (and often win), no such appellate process is offered for Egyptians whose recourse is either to comply or face the business end of an AK-47.

Jewish-Catholic rapprochement has come a long way since the Holocaust. Pope Benedict XVI and his predecessor Pope John Paul II did much to advance relations between Israel and the Vatican. Sadly, however, old habits die hard and there remain vestiges of those within the Catholic Church who harbor anti-Semitic views and hostile attitudes toward Israel and wish to see the Church regress to positions of darker times past. Judging by its recent editorials blasting Israel exclusively and book reviews extolling the works of a rabid anti-Semite, the publishers of America magazine can include themselves among this ignominious group.

Freedom Center pamphlets now available on Kindle: Click here.

Why the Sydney café jihadist was no lone wolf.

The hostage saga in Sydney ended in dramatic fashion yesterday as Australian police and SWAT teams stormed a downtown café after a 16-hour standoff with armed hostage taker, Man Haron Monis. Monis, identified as a Muslim cleric with a criminal record that included sexual assault and accessory to murder, was killed during the operation as were two hostages, identified as a male and female in their 30s.

Monis, an Iranian national, requested refugee status and asylum in Australia in 1996 and sought to repay Australia’s benevolence by engaging in a vituperative letter-writing campaign directed at the families of fallen Australian soldiers who served in Afghanistan. The letters, in which Monis expresses opposition to the war in Afghanistan, refers to the fallen soldiers as “pigs” and compares them to Hitler. Australian authorities charged him with “using a postal or similar service to menace, harass or cause offense [sic]” for which he received a relatively mild sentence of 300 hours of community service.

Australian police ought to be commended for their efficiency and professionalism in quickly subduing the terrorist and preventing more bloodshed, yet the incident raises more questions than it answers. How was a man with such a shady past, with no viable means of supporting himself, who was charged with such serious crimes, allowed to walk on bail and why was his refugee status not revoked? These are questions that the Australian justice system and immigration authorities will have to grapple with in the coming days.

More problematic is how the Australian government will seek to label this incident. Monis’s former lawyer sought to distance his ex-client from any connection to Islamic terrorism, noting that Monis’s actions reflected those of a “random individual” and were not reflective of a “concerted terrorism event or act.” His lawyer’s comments will surely be echoed by Australia’s Muslim community as well as its multiculturalist amen corner.

But the facts of this case dictate other, more malevolent conclusions that point toward radical Islam. Monis was a radical Islamist who espoused the ideologies of the Islamic State. During the hostage standoff, he issued demands that demonstrated unyielding devotion to Islam. He insisted that authorities provide him with an ISIS flag and that the government officially label the incident an ISIS attack. Monis also forced his terrified victims to display an Islamic shahada flag in both the window of the café and in the numerous videos released of hostages relaying messages.

Australia has not been immune from the scourge of radical Islam currently sweeping across multicultural Europe. It is a liberal democracy that unwittingly plays host to radical Islamists who have taken advantage of Australia’s liberal democratic character to advance their pernicious schemes.

On September 18, Australian security forces thwarted a plan by Australian Muslims to kidnap and behead Australian citizens in public and drape their bodies in an Islamic State flag. And on December 15, Australian authorities charged two Muslim terrorists with providing funding for Australian Muslims seeking to fight with ISIS.

Monis was not a lone wolf as some would have us believe. There comes a point when collectively, so-called lone wolf attacks must be viewed as coordinated strikes, actively encouraged by fundamentalist ideologies. Those who claim otherwise, who refuse to acknowledge the obvious and absurdly label these attacks as acts of “work place violence” or “random acts of violence,” are being disingenuous and placing politics above the needs of national security.

Whether it is a shooting spree at Fort Hood, a beheading in Woolwich, a bloodbath at a Jerusalem synagogue or, as in this case, a hostage standoff and murder, these incidents and countless others too numerous to mention, represent nothing short of an attack on Western civilization. The attackers may not have known each other but were nevertheless inspired and guided by the same radical Islamist ideology, an ideology that seeks to dominate, subjugate and restore Islam to the same standing it experienced some 1,000 years ago.

This radical ideology easily spreads like a virus through 21st century mediums like Facebook and Twitter but also finds home in the mosques and madrassas of the Middle East and the West where Muslim clerics routinely call for the murder of Jews and annihilation of Western civilization. Unfortunately, many in the West, in the name of multiculturalism and tolerance, have preferred to ignore this malevolence and have allowed it to metastasize like a malignant cancer.

So long as Western governments continue to bury their collective heads in the sand, fail to draw the necessary conclusions and take decisive action, we can unfortunately expect more future tragedies like that which just occurred in Sydney.

Al Aqsa Mosque-goers, including children, break out in spontaneous prayer to slaughter Jews.

A shockingly, disturbing video has recently surfaced exposing the true and pernicious face of Palestinian extremism and xenophobia. The video, made available by Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) shows a bearded sheikh giving what appears to be an impromptu sermon on the Jews. (After all, what else is there to talk about?) The venue is the Al-Aqsa Mosque, considered by those who practice the “religion of peace” to be their third holiest site after Mecca and Medina.

The speech itself is filled with gut-wrenching anti-Semitism, the kind that would even make the editors of the New York Times blush. The sheikh describes how the Jews possess the vilest of traits, how they were responsible for killing the “prophets,” how they attempted to assassinate Muhammad, how their time for “slaughter is near,” how they will be slaughtered “without mercy,” and of course there’s the perfunctory, “Jews are apes and pigs” thing.

Interestingly, the speaker doesn’t mention the longing for Palestinian statehood or independence. Instead, he talks of the establishment of the “Islamic Caliphate.” “Oh Allah’” he states, “Hasten the establishment of the State of the Islamic Caliphate,” and further rants, “Oh Allah hasten the pledge of allegiance to the Muslim Caliph.” He spews forth the latter statement three times to chants of “Amen!” from the large, approving crowd congregating around him.

These comments, which would register horror and revulsion in the West (at least in some quarters) are almost banal among Palestinians. In fact, a similar video featuring a different speaker some days earlier at the same venue, conveyed identical sentiment, expressing admiration for the Islamic State and calling for murder of Jews and annihilation of America.

Guttural anti-Semitism is ingrained and interwoven in the fabric of Palestinian society. Despite their minuscule numbers, 78% of Palestinians believe that Jews are responsible for most of the world’s wars while a whopping 88% believe that Jews control the global media and still more believe that Jews wield too much power in the business world.

Much of the blame for this can be placed squarely on the doorstep of Mahmoud Abbas’s Palestinian Authority, which subjects the Palestinian population to a steady diet of hate-filled, Judeophobic rhetoric through state-controlled media and educational institutions. It is so well entrenched that the process of deprogramming, if it were ever attempted, would take generations to reverse.

Some of the blame however, rests with the Obama administration and the European Union, which continues to fund the Palestinian Authority with an endless supply of taxpayer money without demanding any form of accountability. Western money is openly used to fund the Palestinian Authority’s hate apparatus with money flowing into institutions that propagate anti-Semitism and encourage terrorism.

Some Western media outlets are also culpable in perpetuating the Palestinian culture of hate. The New York Times for example has frequently and diligently covered so-called “price tag” vandalism attacks; a practice universally condemned by nearly all Israelis and vigorously prosecuted by Israeli authorities but rarely, if ever, covers the type of venomous hate speech witnessed in the above-noted videos.

Hate crimes inspired by this type of pernicious speech are also routinely ignored. Highlighting this point is the disturbing case of Asher Palmer, an American citizen who, along with his infant son was murdered when a rock thrown by a Palestinian crashed through the windshield of the car he was driving, hitting him flush in the face. The New York Times ignored the gruesome murders and only mentioned the incident in passing a few days later in the context of a reprisal “price tag” attack against a mosque. Under the unbelievably skewed editorial policies of the New York Times, it took an act of vandalism, ostensibly committed by Jews, to highlight the horrific murder of Asher Palmer and his infant son at the hands of Arabs.

The practice of ignoring such malevolence partly stems from the fact that the New York Times wishes to present a certain narrative at the expense of the facts and partly stems from a systematic inability of some Western media outlets to hold Arabs to a Western standard of decency and morality. Thus, Arab anti-Semitism, the same kind of anti-Semitism practiced in Europe some 75 years ago, is either ignored or attributed to mere cultural differences.

Indeed, the New York Times no longer even bothers to hide the fact that it engages in duplicitous double standards when it comes to reporting Palestinian-Arab racism and hate speech as evidenced from a telling exchange between New York Times’ opinion page staff editor, Matt Seaton and Tamar Sternthal, a director at the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA).

Rarely is the sort of vitriol witnessed in the videos expressed in English to Western audiences. Only the crassest among them publicly share their feelings about Jews, and the West for that matter. But behind closed doors it’s an entirely different story. Groups like MEMRI, CAMERA, Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) and many others do an excellent job in exposing the malevolence hiding just beneath the surface. The problem is no one seems to care. No one cared 75 years ago either.

Too extreme for German leftists -- just right for the Gray Lady.

The New York Times, the paper that earned the dubious distinction of being the recipient of the “Most Dishonest Reporting” award for 2013 is at it again. This time, The Gray Lady featured an op-ed piece by the notorious anti-Semite Max Blumenthal, providing this provocateur with a mainstream platform to express his odious views.

True to form, Blumenthal, the darling of radical extremists, conflates, distorts and simply makes things up. But I’m not here to analyze Blumenthal’s arrant nonsense. Others have already done a good job of that. What I wish to highlight is the depths to which the New York Times has sunk.

To be sure, the New York Times has in the past given a broad range of anti-Israel types a platform to express their opinions in the op-ed section, far more than those expressing positive views of Israel. But Blumenthal’s pernicious views veer uncomfortably close to old fashion anti-Semitism and this time, the New York Times exceeded the bounds of decency and fair play and has partnered with those who openly express Jew-hatred.

An analysis of Blumenthal’s history reveals the following disturbing facts;

•Blumenthal was disinvited from a scheduled speaking engagement by the German “Die Linke” (The Left) party due to his anti-Semitic (not to mention anti-Israel) views.

•Blumenthal’s antics earned him a lifetime ban from the German parliament.

•The Simon Wiesenthal Center has labeled Blumenthal an anti-Semite and his comments earned him a spot in the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s “Top 10” list of anti-Semitic slurs.

•Blumenthal’s “works” have been cited and praised by radical extremists and neo-Nazis and have been featured on the anti-Semitic blog, Electronic Intifada as well as the neo-Nazi Internet forum, Stormfront.

•Blumenthal’s comments have been cited with approval by Frazier Glenn Miller, the KKK murderer who massacred three people at two separate Jewish community centers in Overland Park, Kansas.

•The Left-leaning Forward referred to Blumenthal’s book as so anti-Israel it, “makes even anti-Zionists blush.”

•Prominent liberal Eric Alterman of The Nation referred to Blumenthal’s book as a screed that belongs in the “Hamas Book-of-the-Month Club.”

•Blumenthal compared Israel with ISIS (the group that lops people’s heads off for eating dinner with the wrong fork) calling the Jewish state “JSIL” or the “Jewish State of Israel and the Levant.”

•Blumenthal called Israelis “Judeo-Nazis.” (I wonder if he could say that to a Holocaust survivor and walk away with his head intact.)

•Writing for the Hezbollah paper Al-Akhbar, Blumenthal stated that American law enforcement is “schooled in Israeli killing methods.”

•Blumenthal was caught red-handed conjuring up fictitious quotes maligning Israel.

And that’s Max Blumenthal in a nutshell. One wonders whether Hillary Clinton’s senior advisor Sidney Blumenthal, Max’s father and passionate defender had anything to with the Times’ decision to host the notorious anti-Semite. Either way, the Times’ demonstrates that it has tossed journalistic standards and any semblance of decency out the window.

So what’s next for the New York Times? I hear former KKK “Grand Wizard” David Duke is in town. Perhaps the Times can enlighten its readership and provide the former Klan leader a forum on its op-ed pages to explain how the diabolical Zionists were responsible for the Holocaust or alternatively, how the Zionists propagated the Holocaust hoax to inflict suffering on the poor Palestinians. That should make for interesting reading.

Why the Hezbollah-allied church could soon lose its tax-exempt status.

On April 18, 1983, an explosive laden truck driven by a Hezbollah terrorist slammed into the U.S. embassy in Beirut killing 63 people, including 17 Americans, some of whom were CIA operatives. According to the CIA, it was the most lethal attack ever against the Agency. Just six months later, Hezbollah terrorists struck again, this time hitting the U.S. Marine compound in Beirut. In a repeat of the embassy bombing, a Hezbollah homicide bomber crashed his explosive laden truck into the barracks killing 220 marines and another 21 U.S. service personnel. It was the largest single-day loss of life sustained by the marines since Iwo Jima.

Hezbollah’s atrocities against the United States and its allies did not cease with the embassy and marine compound outrages and have in fact, continued unabated in intensity and scope since that time. Hezbollah has recently carried out a global campaign of terror spanning five continents including an attack and bombing of a civilian tourist bus in Bulgaria that resulted in the deaths of six civilians.

Despite Hezbollah’s involvement in international terrorism and its designation as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) by the United States, the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) has had extensive contacts with the organization according to a federal complaint filed by the legal advocacy group, Shurat HaDin, Israel Law center.

The 38-page complaint filed with the Internal Revenue Service alleges that PCUSA has engaged in “a range of activities prohibited under U.S. tax law” which are wholly inconsistent with PCUSA’s stated aims when it filed for tax exempt status in 1964.

In its 1964 filing with the IRS, PCUSA posed as a religious body whose purpose was to engage in “peaceful relationships with individuals of all faiths and wholly unengaged in political activities.” But the federal complaint filed by Shurat HaDin paints a completely different picture and alleges that PCUSA has repeatedly met and established dialogue with Hezbollah terrorist officials.

The complaint also alleges that PCUSA violated its tax-exempt status by “publishing anti-Semitic materials, enacting a racist policy to divest from American companies doing business with Israel, lobbying the U.S. Congress, and distributing political advocacy materials…”

Indeed, as far back as 2004 PCUSA officials met with Hezbollah operatives in Lebanon with one PCUSA official, perhaps in an attempt to endear himself to his Hezbollah hosts, making crude anti-Jewish remarks. Though PCUSA subsequently disavowed itself from the remarks as well as the meeting, PCUSA sanctioned meetings with Hezbollah continued.

In October 2005, a PCUSA delegation headed by Robert Morley and Father Nihad Tomeh met with Nabil Qaouk, a senior Hezbollah commander in Lebanon. During the exchange, Qaouk complained that U.S. policies in the region were dictated by Israel. It is the same banal complaint often regurgitated by an assortment anti-Semitic groups and conspiracy types. Nevertheless, the delegation, rather than challenging Qaouk, concurred with him stating that PCUSA was blameless because its members had voted for the Democratic Party and the organization was under pressure from U.S. Jewish groups due to its divestment efforts against Israel.

The Israel-Palestine Mission Network of the PCUSA has been engaged in a relentless effort to delegitimize Israel. As detailed by the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA), the IPMN has been linked to a number of anti-Israel initiatives the most notorious of which is a malevolent publication called “Zionism Unsettled.”

“Zionism Unsettled” adopts a viscerally anti-Israel narrative, in line with the views of Hamas and has won praise from the who’s who of Judeophobes including former KKK “Grand Wizard” David Duke. Among its many pernicious lies is that Jews had “harmonious relations” with Muslims prior to the ascendancy of Zionism and that Zionism is the sole cause for Palestinian suffering. The screed was peddled and offered for sale on PCUSA’s website and was taken down only after encountering extremely negative feedback and intense public pressure.

PCUSA took its anti-Israel political advocacy to new levels when in June 2014, its General Assembly voted by a narrow margin to attack Israel’s legitimacy by divesting itself from three companies doing business with Israel. A similar resolution in 2012 failed but remains testament to the relentless effort PCUSA places on political advocacy when it comes to harming relations with the Jewish State.

PCUSA, by both word and deed, has made itself out to be a leading purveyor of anti-Semitism. Its divestment initiatives hold Israel to a standard expected of no other nation. By peddling an anti-Semitic screed on its website, it becomes an integral party to anti-Semitism. By meeting and maintaining dialogue with Hezbollah, a Foreign Terrorist Organization that next to al-Qaida was responsible for more American deaths than any other terrorist group, it provides aid and comfort to the enemy.

In 1964, PCUSA presented itself to the IRS as a benign religious organization with an apolitical agenda. The facts however, prove otherwise. As Shurat HaDin’s founder, Nitsana Darshan-Leitner accurately summed it up in an email to me; “The Presbyterian church long ago abounded any claim that they are not a political organization with ties to terror groups and an Israel-bashing agenda. The IRS is obligated to investigate PCUSA and strip it from its tax free status. The PCUSA would need to decide ultimately whether they are a church or a political group.”

Given the PCUSA’s aggressive political agenda and its anti-Israel machinations, it is patently clear that they’ve already made that decision.

An impotent Obama watches as the ISIS cancer spreads from Algeria to Egypt.

As ISIS continues its brutal occupation of large swaths of territory in Syria and Iraq, effectively blurring the border between those two pseudo nations, a new, if not more menacing threat is emerging in North Africa where the Islamic State is looking to plant its cancerous roots.

In Egypt, the Sinai based Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, an Islamist organization responsible for dozens of terror attacks throughout the country announced on its Twitter account that it had forged a union with ISIS and swore allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the Islamic State’s self-proclaimed Caliph. ABM has mimicked the Islamic State’s macabre methods and has made use of social media to publicly broadcast grisly beheadings the group videotaped. ABM has also taken responsibility for the murder of America oil worker, William Henderson and was believed to be behind a deadly bombing attack in Sinai that killed over thirty Egyptian soldiers.

In Tunisia, the birthplace of the so-called Arab spring, ISIS has found a virtual recruiting ground for eager volunteers. Tunisia boasts the dubious distinction of being the nation that has contributed the most foreign fighters to Islamic State’s ranks, at least 3,000 according to published reports and many more have been prevented from joining by Tunisian authorities.

Algeria, a nation that experienced 10 years of brutal civil war between Islamists and government forces that claimed the lives of 150,000, is witnessing a resurgence of Islamic militancy. A group calling itself Jund al-Khilafah (“The Caliphate’s Soldiers”) has also recently sworn allegiance to al-Baghdadi. The newly formed group, which splintered from its al-Qaida affiliate, was responsible for beheading a French national in September after ISIS issued a call for the killing of nationals belonging to countries contributing to US led coalition strikes against the Islamic State.

As evidenced by the Iraqi and Syrian experience, ISIS thrives in an environment where lawlessness and chaos prevail and Libya, which saw the overthrow of Kaddafi in 2011, has provided the Islamic State with fertile ground to carry out its objectives and spread its ideology. Libya’s central government is weak and has been unable to exercise any meaningful authority over the country, which has witnessed the rise of a plethora of militia groups with various Jihadist affiliations.

The Libyan town of Darnah, situated on the Mediterranean coastline just south of Crete and east of Benghazi is currently under the complete control of a Jihadist militia that has sworn allegiance to the Islamic State. It is also first town known to be under ISIS rule in North Africa. The allure of ISIS in the Muslim world coupled with the lawlessness that characterizes the current state of affairs in Libya makes it a near certainty that other Libyan enclaves will sooner or later come under Islamic State influence.

President Obama has yet to publicly address the growing threat of ISIS in North Africa and given his past foreign policy fiascos, the prospects of this administration forming a coherent strategy to deal with this looming crisis just south of Europe’s vulnerable underbelly is in serious doubt.

It has widely been acknowledged that the emergence of ISIS as a growing and influential force in the Muslim world is largely due to Obama’s failed policies in the region.

Despite the urging of congressional leaders and other intelligence officials, Obama stubbornly refused to provide aid to moderate groups opposed to Assad until it was too late. His risible “red line” threat after Assad’s usage of chemical weapons against his own populace proved to be nothing short of a colossal foreign policy embarrassment. Faced with a loss of hope, Syrians opposed to Assad gravitated to extremes. In Iraq, Obama continued to provide assistance to Nouri al-Maliki’s government despite the fact that Maliki instituted discriminatory policies against Iraq’s Sunni population which exacerbated already heightened sectarian tensions.

A confluence of events in Syria and Iraq created the ISIS Frankenstein and Obama was instrumental in its creation. He then compounded his error by dismissing the threat posed by ISIS, pejoratively referring to the group as the “JV team.” To make matters worse, the ISIS offensive prompted a panic-stricken Obama to send a letter to the Islamic Republic’s “Supreme Leader” Khamenei, suggesting that the two nations cooperate in their fight against a common foe. Khamenei incidentally, is the same man who authored a step-by-step instruction guide on how to destroy Israel and this is the man Obama wishes to do business with.

In 1942, American and British troops landed in French North Africa in an invasion that would ultimately culminate in a pincer action that would see the defeat and ejection of fascist forces from North Africa. Seventy-two years later, fascism is once again rearing its head in the region. Unfortunately, the leader who presides in the White House today is paralyzed with fear, indecision and incompetence and prefers to appease and accommodate evil rather than obliterate it.

Students vote for economic warfare against the Jewish State.

Anti-Semitism on college campuses is nothing new and, partly as a result of the growing influence of groups like the Muslim Students Association (an affiliate of the Muslim Brotherhood) and Students for Justice in Palestine, has witnessed a sharp rise in recent years. In fact, some of today’s institutions of higher learning are among the greatest purveyors of Judeophoboia and anti-Israel sentiment.

At San Francisco State University for example, an institution subsidized by the taxpayer, Rabab Ibrahim Abdulhadi, a pseudo professor of “Race and Resistance Studies,” was allowed (under false pretenses) to meet and collaborate with known terrorists on a university-funded excursion. And at Northeastern University, professors have been videotaped openly expressing Jew-hatred in the classroom with one professor stating quite candidly that he wears the label of anti-Semite as a badge of honor. But when it comes to base anti-Semitic vitriol, the University of California, Los Angeles has the dubious distinction of being among the worst of the lot.

On November 18, at around the same time when Jewish worshipers were being hacked and shot to death in a Jerusalem synagogue, UCLA’s student government, by a vote of 8 to 2 with 2 abstentions, passed a resolution urging the university to divest from Israel and from American companies doing business with Israel. Despite the fact that some 2,000 students signed a petition opposed to the pernicious measure, the student government, stacked with Judeophopes and their mindless partners in crime, acted as anti-Semites normally do and voted to target the Jews.

Last February, a similar resolution sponsored by the SJP failed by a vote of 7 to 5 provoking an embarrassing and memorable meltdown by a BDS-supporting, student note-taker. It is ironic that the instant resolution was co-sponsored by groups like Queer Alliance and Bruin Feminists for Equality. Someone should remind these useful idiots that Palestinians don’t take kindly to gays and areas governed by Hamas and the Palestinian Authority are rife with so-called “honor killings” where women are often tortured and brutalized. This strange alliance merely demonstrates that when it comes to targeting Jews, radical leftists and their Islamist allies generally find common ground and put their difference aside.

What is also ironic is that the vote comes at a time when the Muslim Middle East is imploding. While dysfunctional countries like Iran, Syria, Iraq and Egypt are devoid of any semblance of democracy and brutally subjugate their people, Israel stands as a beacon of democratic values where minorities enjoy full civil rights and where tolerance is the norm rather than an aberration. Yet the student government saw fit to disregard the facts and instead painted a broad bull’s-eye over the Jewish State.

The vote also comes on the heels of a vindictive campaign by UCLA’s honorary Brown Shirts to prevent Avi Oved, a Jewish undergraduate and economics major and former vice president of the UCLA student government, from serving as a UC Board of Regents student representative. The campaign failed, but is testament to the broad effort that the SJP is conducting to intimidate Jewish students. UCLA’s SJP’s chapter also tried to invalidate last February’s student government vote of two student government members who allegedly took sponsored trips to Israel that were allegedly subsidized by organizations affiliated with pro-Israel causes. That drive fell flat as well, but the students had to devote much time and effort defending themselves against spurious allegations laced with anti-Semitism.

Though the instant anti-Israel drive was boycotted by Jewish and pro-Israel groups, and the sad but predictable result amounts to nothing more than a publicity stunt with more bark than bite, the malevolent vote represents a black stain and a mark of shame on UCLA. Already, prominent UC alumni and donors have voiced staunch opposition to the BDS resolution and have made clear that they will cease donations to the university until it issues an unequivocal rejection and condemnation of the student government’s action.

It does appear that the pressure is having the desired effect. Just a day following the passage of the anti-Semitic resolution, Chancellor Gene Block released a statement plainly rejecting the BDS outrage, noting that it unfairly held Israel to a different standard. This axiom is of course ignored by the SJP and other Islamist and radical student groups whose platforms are ensconced in Jew-hatred and xenophobia.

While the Chancellor’s statement represents a step in the right direction, stronger action is clearly needed to stem the growing cancer of anti-Semitism that is so pervasive at UCLA. Until it is seriously addressed, we can expect more abominations from UCLA.

What if Israel had destroyed 800 homes in Gaza instead of the Egyptians?

Let us engage in a brief thought experiment. Imagine three US service members disembarking off their ship docked in the Israeli port of Haifa. They paint the town but are suddenly and unexpectedly surrounded by a group of 12 or so hooligans, who yell epithets at them, call them “murderers,” throw garbage at them, rough them up and then place bags over their heads. Imagine further that the hoodlums are caught and arrested by Israeli authorities but are inexplicably released shortly thereafter.

Let us engage in another thought experiment. Imagine that Israel, under the pretext of ensuring its security, dynamites eight-hundred “Palestinian” homes. The Israelis argue that smuggling tunnels under some of those homes warrant drastic action and announce their intention to construct a barrier where those homes once stood, displacing ten-thousand residents.

These two incidents actually occurred but not in Israel. On November 12, in a sickening display of brute thuggery, three US sailors in Istanbul were assaulted by a group of Turkish nationalists. They were roughed up, humiliated, had bags stuffed over their heads and chased to chants of “Yankee go home.” Some of the suspects were apprehended and despite the fact that they showed little remorse, were inexplicably released by Turkish authorities.

The second incident, involving the wanton destruction of some eight-hundred homes and the displacement of some ten-thousand residents occurred in the Egyptian controlled part of Rafah that straddles the border between Sinai and the Hamas enclave of Gaza. It seems that the Egyptians had had enough of Hamas’s shenanigans and decided to act resolutely after as many as 31 Egyptian soldiers were killed in an attack that the Egyptian government blamed on Hamas.

Now let us return to our thought experiment. What was the State Department’s reaction to these two occurrences? In the latter example, there was simply no reaction, only silence. There were no condemnations from John Kerry, no claims by Jen Psaki that such drastic measures were disproportionate and no protests from Obama shills Ben Rhodes, Phillip Gordon and Josh Earnest that such sweeping actions amount to collective punishment, are a source of regional instability and present obstacles to peace.

In the former case, the State Department did issue a condemnation but that’s as far as it went. The hooligans responsible for the cowardly attack took their cues directly from their anti-American, Islamist government. During his 12-year reign, President Recep Erdogan worked tirelessly to create a toxic environment conducive to such base anti-American displays. More astonishingly was the muted response from the State Department after the charges against those responsible for the assault were dropped. The lawless message Turkey is conveying to the United States is clear; your servicemen and women can be humiliated and assaulted on Turkish soil with impunity.

Had any of these incidents occurred in Israel, the State Department would have been up in arms. If there’s any doubt about that assertion, consider Jen Psaki’s comments concerning Israel’s decision to demolish the home of a terrorist responsible for crushing a pedestrian with a stolen excavator in August.

Psaki condemned the Israeli decision stating that it amounted to “collective punishment.” In Psaki’s eyes, the destruction of 800 Rafah homes, most of which have no connection to illicit activity, suits the State Department just fine but the targeted demolition of a single home belonging to a confirmed depraved Palestinian terrorist amounts to “collective punishment.”

Now consider the administration’s lackadaisical response to the humiliation of its servicemen on Turkish soil and subsequent dropping of all charges against the culprits by Turkish prosecutors. The State Department’s silence on the matter is deafening. By contrast, when a Palestinian terrorist with U.S. citizenship was shot while throwing gasoline bombs at vehicular traffic, Obama’s State Department went into high gear expressing its “deepest condolences” to the terrorist’s family and demanding a “speedy and transparent investigation” into the shooting.

It appears that the Obama administration, which treats friends like enemies and enemies like friends, has adopted one standard for Israel and another for the autocratic governments that surround it. While Russia invades Ukraine, Turkey absorbs chunks of Cyprus and China continues its ethnic cleansing and occupation of Tibet as well as creeping annexation of areas within the South and East China seas, the administration appears besotted by the idea of tearing Israel away from parts of its ancestral land and creating yet another hostile and dysfunctional Arab country right on Israel’s doorstep. The administration’s continued haranguing of one of its closest allies is indicative of the disdain Obama has for Israel and serves only to embolden its genocidal enemies. But then again, maybe that’s precisely what he wants.

But embraced by the left-wing establishment.

The Norwegians had their Quislings, and the Jews now have their Max Blumenthal. Blumenthal, a fringe gonzo journalist, Goebbels-like propagandist and BDS activist, who once worked for a pro-Hezbollah daily, represents today’s new face of anti-Semitism and is arguably one of the most reprehensible figures of the radical left.

Blumenthal routinely spews forth the anti-Semitic canard that compares Israelis to Nazis, referring to them as “Judeo-Nazis.” Recently, he compared the Jewish State to ISIS calling it “JSIL” – or the “Jewish State of Israel and the Levant.” Blumenthal’s views are so extreme that he is often cited approvingly by neo-Nazi groups as well as depraved murderers.

His vitriol and depravity know no bounds and earned him a spot in the Simon Wiesenthal Top 10 list of anti-Semitic, anti-Israel slurs, placing him in the company of such lovely bottom feeders as Iran’s “Supreme Leader,” Ayatollah Khamenei and Turkey’s grand Islamic narcissist, Recip Erdogan.

Anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism are warped ideologies that go hand-in-hand and so it’s unsurprising that Blumenthal has expressed rabidly anti-America views as well. Among some of his more zany conspiracy theories is that American law enforcement is “schooled in Israeli killing methods” and law enforcement personnel are trained in Israeli methods of torture. These risible allegations were first published by Blumenthal for the Hezbollah mouthpiece Al-Akhbar, where Blumenthal worked as a staff writer, but were quickly discredited as arrant nonsense when it was revealed that Blumenthal simply invented fictitious quotes to support his fabrications.

Recently, Blumenthal’s antics caught the attention of Germany’s main opposition party, Die Linke (“The Left”), a radical leftist party considered the successor to the former ruling Communist Party in East Germany. Two party members with anti-Israel affiliations, Inge Höger and Annette Groth, invited Blumenthal to speak at a party seminar at the German parliament on November 10, just a day after the anniversary of the Kristallnacht outrage. But as it turns out, Blumenthal’s odious views proved too extreme even for the Communists who scrubbed his appearance.

As expected, the narcissistic and paranoid Blumenthal blamed his repudiation on the vast Zionist network stretching from Sheldon Adelson to the Simon Wiesenthal Center. And as expected, Blumenthal and another one of his Brown Shirt associates entered the parliament building where they harassed and bullied Die Linke’s party leader, Gregor Gysi. Blumenthal’s antics earned him an immediate and deserved lifetime ban from the German federal parliament building.

It is rather ironic and strange that while German Communists have enough commonsense to recognize Blumenthal as nothing more than a purveyor of anti-Semitism, elements within the American Left and more disturbingly, within the highest levels of the Democratic Party, continue to entertain his views and provide him with a platform.

Despite his overt anti-Semitism, Blumenthal’s articles are still featured in the leftist blog Mondoweiss. Moreover, the New America Foundation (NAF), a Washington think tank headed by Anne-Marie Slaughter, a former high-level Obama-administration official, provided Blumenthal with a platform to peddle his book, Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel, a screed widely recognized as anti-Semitic (one prominent leftist writer noted that it could have made the Hamas Book-of-the-Month Club) and adopted by the world’s most virulent and notorious anti-Semites. It should be noted that the NAF receives funding from organizations like the Ford Foundation and the State Department. While Mondoweiss is recognized as a fringe partisan blog that routinely features guttural gibberish, the NAF is viewed as a prestigious think tank and its actions with respect to the promotion of Blumenthal’s book served to bolster world-wide anti-Semitism.

Just as troubling is Hillary Clinton’s association with Sidney Blumenthal, Max Blumenthal’s father as well as his defender. Sidney Blumenthal advised Clinton during her 2008 campaign and was rumored to have nearly landed a job in the State Department following her appointment as Secretary of State. Sidney is also a passionate defender of his son’s anti-Semitic book, attacking with single-minded purpose those critics who found its repulsive contents to be beyond the pale.

Critics of those who warned about Barack Obama’s close associations with the likes of Rashid Khalidi, Bill Ayers, Edward Said and Jeremiah Wright were dismissed as being paranoid. Jeffrey Goldberg went so far as to call those sounding the alarm “rumor-mongering, fever-headed Jewish conspiracists.” Well, we now know that those rumor mongering conspiracists were spot-on in their analysis and, if anything, underestimated Obama’s disdain for America’s closest ally in the Middle East and one of its closest in the world.

Sidney Blumenthal has failed to disassociate himself from the views expressed by his son in his anti-Semitic screed but continues to maintain close relations with Clinton. Another high-level Clinton aide, Huma Abedin, has confirmed connections to the radical Muslim Brotherhood. Those who warned us about Obama’s past radical ties and the negative influence they had on him were scorned and ridiculed but were ultimately proven right. Hopefully, the American electorate, deemed to be shallow and stupid by the current administration, has learned its lesson and understands the ramifications of the old adage, “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

Writing for The Times of Israel, senior staff writer Avi Issacharoff criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for scapegoating Abbas as the cause for the recent disturbances in Israel and for failing to point the finger at the real culprits, Hamas. He posits that Netanyahu, in a quest to avoid negotiations with Israel’s “peace partners,” has painted Abbas as a purveyor of violence and thus, an obstacle to peace. He also notes that as a result of the disturbances, “an entire country is in a panic.”

I submit however, that the only people who are “in a panic” are Issacharoff and leftists of like-mind who detest Netanyahu, seek his demise and will stop at nothing to disparage him. Israel has in the past witnessed and endured far worse violence and each time weathered the storm calmly and resolutely. The people of Israel in the instant mini-crisis are neither panic-stricken nor hysterical though many on the left would like to have us think that. What better way to produce an “intifada” than by talking about it incessantly in the hope of producing a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Issacharoff’s analysis is fundamentally flawed on a number of levels. First, it is Abbas and his Palestinian Authority who are primarily responsible for the uptick in violence. No doubt that Hamas shares some responsibility but it is the PA’s continued campaign of incitement, where Jews are compared to the descendants of apes and pigs and Palestinians are continuously urged in TV broadcasts to confront the “barbaric monkeys” and “wretched pigs” aka Jews, that has led to the current state of affairs.

Abbas’s inflammatory rhetoric adds fuel to the fire. Responsible leaders don’t incite their populace to attack the citizens of another state, and that is precisely what Abbas has done, over and over again. Responsible leaders don’t pay condolence calls to the families of assassins and refer to them as martyrs who will ascend to heaven, and that is precisely what Abbas has done. Responsible leaders don’t name squares and streets after people, who in normal societies, would be locked up in institutions for the criminally insane, but Abbas’s Palestinian Authority has done so repeatedly.

Issacharoff refers to Abbas’s recent vitriolic, blood-curdling rhetoric, including the glorification of Yehudah Glick’s attempted murder as “stupid.” “Stupid” is a term that should be applied to one who texts while driving or chain smokes. Stupid is not a term that one normally associates with visceral anti-Semitism and incitement to murder. When the leader of the Palestinians extolls the virtues of the murderer of Jews, that is incitement to murder and anti-Semitism, plain and simple. To call it anything else is “stupid” and delusional. I wonder if Issacharoff would refer to Goebbels’s propaganda pieces in which he depicts Jews as rats as “stupid.”

Second, contrary to Issacharoff’s assertions, it is Abbas who remains the impediment to negotiations, not Netanyahu. In 2009, Netanyahu agreed to an unprecedented 10-month settlement freeze in the hopes of spurring on the anemic “peace talks.” Abbas waited nine months before engaging Netanyahu ensuring that there would be virtually no time for any meaningful substantive negotiations.

In the latest round of negotiations, Abbas remained the stumbling block, refusing to budge on the so-called Right of Return issue, refusing to acknowledge that the Jews have some rights here too and in general, maintaining the same tired rejectionist posture of his mentor-in-chief, Yassir Arafat, who in turn adopted his views from the Nazi collaborator, Haj Amin el-Husseini.

Let us call a spade a spade and be honest with ourselves. Abbas is an autocratic ruler whose term of office was supposed to have ended six years ago. He is therefore a leader with absolutely zero legitimacy. He is also a Holocaust denier, who, in his doctoral thesis, denied the existence of gas chambers, called the deaths of 6,000,000 Jews “a fantastic lie” and somewhat paradoxically blamed the Holocaust on the evil Zionists, who incited the Germans to hate Jews. In other words, the Jews are responsible for the Holocaust, which, incidentally, never happened. These repugnant views place Abbas in the same category as former “Grand Wizard” David Duke and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The sad truth is that the Palestinians, whether Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the Army of Islam or Abbas’s Palestinian Authority, share the same pernicious goals, which is the total eradication and annihilation of the State of Israel. The only difference between the former three groups and the latter is that Abbas and his cronies on the PA payroll wear ties whereas the other groups have adopted the fashion style of their brethren in the Islamic Republic. The sooner the left understands this concept and stops treating Abbas as though he was some toddler, dismissing his deleterious statements as the product of “stupidity” rather than something much more malevolent, the closer we’ll come to a sustainable peace but not before then.

The wheels of justice grind slowly, but they do grind, and convicted Palestinian terrorist Rasmieh Yousef Odeh learned that the hard way on November 10 when a Detroit jury found her guilty of committing immigration fraud. She faces up to 10 years in a federal penitentiary and deportation following her incarceration.

The story began on Friday, February 21, 1969 when two unsuspecting Israeli university students, Leon Kaner, 21, and Edward Jaffe, 22, stopped at a Jerusalem supermarket to pick up some last minute provisions for a hike the two were planning to take. They never made it and were blown to bits by a bomb placed in coffee cans on a shelf. Nine others were injured in the blast. Jaffe and Kaner, as well as the nine injured civilians, were targeted for no other reason other than the fact that they were Jews with the temerity to live in their ancestral land.

A second bomb, timed to go off just as first responders arrived, was diffused by security forces. A third bomb placed near the British consulate office in Jerusalem was also discovered and destroyed in a controlled detonation, though another bomb placed near the same vicinity some days later did manage to cause structural damage.

The terrorists had chosen Friday to carry out their act of depravity because they knew the supermarket would be packed with civilians shopping for the upcoming Sabbath. It was their intent to cause a bloodbath and inflict maximum civilian casualties. In a testament to Israeli resiliency, the supermarket, belonging to the “Supersol” supermarket chain, opened for business just two days later.

On March 1, 1969, Odeh, her sister and three others were arrested for the bombings. All were members of the notorious Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a Marxist group designated by the United States as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).

Odeh was convicted of all charges and spent the next 10 years in an Israeli prison. She was released in 1979 as part of a prisoner exchange with the PFLP and spent the next four years living in Lebanon. Following that, she moved to Jordan and then made her way to the United States where her father lived.

In 1995, Odeh, who, according published reports has as many as 9 aliases, filled out an application for an immigrant visa and alien registration and falsely checked off “no” when asked if she was ever convicted of a crime. She also falsely stated that she resided exclusively in Amman Jordan since 1948 when, in fact, she spent at least 10 years in Israel and another four in Lebanon.

In 2004, she applied for US citizenship and filled out an Application for Naturalization where she again lied about her prior arrest, conviction and incarceration. She also checked off “no” when asked if she ever belonged to a terrorist organization. Her application was approved and she was sworn in as a United States citizen in December 2004.

In 2013, Odeh secured employment as an Obamacare navigator in Illinois, a job that required her to assist people with healthcare options, but her employment was revoked once federal authorities commenced proceedings against her. In October 2013, she was indicted on charges relating to immigration fraud, to wit, lying on her 1995 and 2004 applications.

The high-profile case took a number of odd twists and turns. A plea deal that would have involved just six months of incarceration and would have permitted Odeh to remain in the United States for another six months following her release was rejected by the defendant. Then, the initial presiding magistrate, Judge Paul Borman, recused himself from the case because some of his family members owned shares in Supersol and Borman wished to avoid the appearance of impropriety.

Despite the hitches, trial was set for November 4, 2014. Odeh took the stand and claimed that when she filled out the applications she thought the questions referencing arrests, convictions and incarcerations referred to criminal acts on U.S. soil. Her testimony however, was soundly refuted by documentary and testimonial evidence. She also acknowledged somewhat paradoxically that while her answers were erroneous, they were not lies.

Of course, Odeh was not without her supporters. The usual assortment of Islamists and radical leftists who always manage to find common ground when it comes to killing Jews rallied to her defense. They hooted and hollered, claiming that Odeh was a model citizen who was the victim of a US-Israeli conspiracy. Odeh’s cult-like devotees and terrorist apologists risibly noted that “the immigration charge was nothing but a pretext to attack this icon of the Palestine liberation movement.”

The jury, however, saw it otherwise and cut through Odeh’s pernicious lies and the shenanigans of her supporters and found her guilty of committing immigration fraud. Odeh served a paltry 10 years for participating in a heinous crime that resulted in the murder of two young university students and the maiming nine other civilians. While another 10 years won’t bring back the victims, it does send a powerful deterrent message to terrorists seeking entry into the United States. As William Hayes, Acting Special Agent in Charge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, aptly noted, “The United States will never be a safe haven for individuals seeking to distance themselves from their pasts.” In this case, Odeh’s murderous, terrorist past finally caught up with her.

Two world leaders compared.

On May 8, 1972, while “Barry” Obama was soaking up the Hawaiian sun, Palestinian terrorists (who else?) hijacked Sabena flight 571 from Vienna to Tel Aviv. A plan was quickly devised to rescue the hostages utilizing Israeli Special Forces of the vaunted Sayeret Matkal. Benjamin Netanyahu and his brother Yoni, both members of Sayeret Matkal, volunteered for the operation and fiercely argued with each other over which one would participate. The final decision was left to Sayeret Matkal’s commander, Ehud Barak, who chose Bibi.

The commandos boarded the plane dressed as airline technicians and quickly overpowered and neutralized the terrorists while securing the hostages. Bibi was wounded during the assault and while carried off to the tarmac was greeted by his brother who half-jokingly stated, “You see, I told you, you shouldn’t have gone.” Yoni was tragically killed four years later while leading the successful Entebbe rescue mission.

Obama of course never served in the military and one could even say harbors disdain for our servicemen and women. While Benjamin Netanyahu was charging terrorists and freeing hostages, Obama was busy smoking marijuana and attending prep school. The contrast between these two leaders, one fearless and self-sacrificing, the other perpetually narcissistic and self-absorbed, could not be greater.

Obama’s minions, however, see it differently. The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg in a recent column revealed the deep level of animus the administration holds for Netanyahu with senior White House aides disparaging the prime minister with boorishly offensive pejoratives. One profanity in particular – “chickensh*t” – attributed to a senior official, has caused a storm and stands out as rather ironic considering Obama’s lack of military service and pusillanimous foreign policies.

Goldberg’s analysis of Israel’s policies with respect to both Iran and the so-called settlements is fundamentally flawed on several levels but the salient point of the article concerning Obama’s visceral dislike for Netanyahu remains accurate. What is perhaps even more disturbing than the current state of affairs between the two leaders is that Obama wishes to air the dirty laundry, which in turn emboldens Israel’s enemies like the Islamic Republic of Iran and encourages Palestinian intransigence. There is no question that the official, who courageously hid behind the veil of anonymity, knew that Goldberg would write about rupture and disclose the abusive and undiplomatic terminology employed.

Goldberg, accurately described by Ben Shapiro as a man whose nose is permanently embedded in Obama’s colon, places most of the blame for spiraling relations squarely on Netanyahu. While acknowledging that the creation of a Palestinian state at present would be dangerous, Goldberg nevertheless chides Netanyahu for initiating construction beyond the Green Line and continues with the tired line that such initiatives undermine the prospects for a so-called “two-state solution.”

Omitted in Goldberg’s analysis, however, is the fact that it was Netanyahu who in 2009 declared an unprecedented unilateral 10-month settlement freeze in the hope of spurring on the anemic “peace process.” Also omitted is the fact that in 2013 at Obama’s urging, Netanyahu phoned the Islamist anti-Semite Recep Tayyip Erdogan to apologize for the deaths of IHH terrorists during the Mavi Marmara incident. Both of these goodwill gestures, extremely unpopular among Netanyahu’s political base, backfired.

In the case of the former, instead of embracing Netanyahu’s bold peace initiative, Mahmoud Abbas, dragged his heels for nine months before responding, ensuring that there would be virtually no time for substantive progress. In the case of the latter, Netanyahu’s apology was reciprocated with an avalanche of anti-Semitic vitriol.

On Iran, Obama has caused the unravelling of an effective sanctions regimen, all while formulating a plan that virtually ensures and legitimizes Iranian enrichment initiatives, despite that regime’s penchant for lying through its teeth. Obama knows that his plan won’t sit well with Congress and is therefore formulating ways to sidestep the legislative branch. That maneuver not only demonstrates contempt for U.S. allies, but, more troubling, contempt for the United States Constitution.

If Obama, by employing profanity toward Israel’s prime minister, was attempting to influence Israeli political discourse, he is in for a rude awakening. Israelis cherish their 66-year, mutually beneficial relationship with the United States, which is based on shared moral values and strategic interests. But as has been demonstrated countless times, Israelis are no pushovers and don’t take kindly to threats. Menachem Begin’s popularity soared when he faced off against Jimmy Carter and the same thing will likely happen in this unfortunate and needless confrontation.

As for the anonymous senior official, my experience has taught me that there is no greater coward than the anonymous complainer. He will whine and moan behind the veil of anonymity but in this instance has brought yet more shame and disgrace upon a quickly unraveling administration unable to cope with its own disastrous shortcomings and failures.

While Israelis hail scientists, their "peace partners" hail terrorists.

As last week’s light rail car attack claims yet another victim – a 22-year-old Ecuadorian woman who sustained a mortal head wound – Palestinians are busy hailing the miscreant responsible for the cowardly attack that also claimed the life of a 3-month-old infant, as a hero and martyr. This abominable terrorist attack as well as the depraved Palestinian reaction to it comes on the heels of yet another monstrous Palestinian outrage involving the kidnapping-murder of three Israeli teens in the Judea district. There too, the perpetrators, confirmed to be Hamas operatives, were hailed as heroes by both Hamas and Mahmoud Abbas’s “moderate” government and accorded the highest religious honors. No doubt that their families will now receive hefty stipends from the Palestinian Authority, courtesy of the American and European taxpayer.

While Israelis laud their scientists, their artists, their doctors and multiple Nobel Prize nominees and recipients, Palestinians have a long and ignominious tradition of extolling the virtues of those who commit mass murder, slaughter innocents on buses and hijack commercial airliners. Public squares and streets are named after them and their children are taught to emulate them. The contrast between Israeli and Palestinian society could not be starker. One society celebrates and encourages progress and life while the other has morphed itself into a death cult, steeped in perverted traits that are an anathema to Western civilization.

Consider the respective reactions of the mothers of sons responsible for carrying out the Ottawa parliament building and Jerusalem light rail attacks. Susan Bibeau, the mother of Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, stated the following of her son’s heinous actions, “As a person and mother I am horrified by the actions of my son, I am sickened by it. I will never understand what drives a person to such senseless violence…” That is an appropriate emotion for random violence directed against the innocent. The mother of the Jerusalem terrorist by contrast, was pictured holding a glorified photograph of her son as if he had accomplished some great feat. She displays no shame over the fact that her son is a child murderer. Instead, she excuses his conduct by claiming that it was a mere traffic accident. Her abhorrent and unnatural behavior is encouraged, aided and abetted by the Palestinian Authority and its culture of death.

When three Israeli teens were kidnapped this past summer, Palestinians encouraged store owners in the vicinity to destroy CCTV footage to thwart apprehension of the perpetrators. By contrast, when a Palestinian teen was kidnapped, Israeli police swiftly secured CCTV footage and apprehended the culprits. The troubling aspect however, is that the Obama administration either willfully ignores the societal and moral disparity or just doesn’t get it and likely never will.

With respect to Palestinian society, I thought I had seen it all. I thought that their depravity and deviancy could stoop no lower. I was wrong. As exposed by Dan Smith from the blog Israellycool, Palestinians seem to revel in the blood of Jews killed not just in Israel but in far off places like Nepal.

On October 24, a tourist bus travelling from Kathmandu to the Langtang area in Nepal overturned and fell into a steep embankment killing at least 10 including 2 Israelis. A Palestinian affiliated Facebook group with a rather large following quickly posted the story and celebrated the deaths of the “Zionist” tourists. The post, which featured gruesome pictures of dead and injured tourists in twisted and grotesque postures quickly garnered over 10,000 “likes” and generated 1,000 shares and a similar number of comments. As Smith points out, the comments are beyond hideous and include the following:

Oh God, exterminate them and kill them vaporized and left them none

To hell

O limit the Zionist Jews and kill them, vaporize them and don’t leave any of them

To hell and good riddance, expand their dead Allah

Allah Akbar

Alhamdulillah

God burn them

The posts are universally racist and boorish. There are no expressions of sympathy for innocent travelers, no expressions of sadness for the loss of innocent lives and no expressions of empathy for the tormented families. To the Palestinians, all that matters is that two Jews were killed. Yippee! Time to pass out the sweets.

The Obama State Department's cold response to a fatal Palestinian terrorist attack in Jerusalem.

Following the depraved car attack and murder of a 3-month old infant (a US citizen) near the Ammunition Hill, Jerusalem light rail train station, the U.S. consulate in Jerusalem described the beastly attack as an ordinary “traffic accident.” Paradoxically, the State Department then ordered its personnel to refrain from using the light rail in certain parts of Jerusalem for a period of 30 days after which time the ban would be reviewed.

Despite all the evidence, including multiple surveillance videos showing that the driver was in complete control of his vehicle and deliberately careened his car into a crowd of unsuspecting pedestrians, the consulate, taking que from the State Department, absurdly decided to transform a palpable terrorist attack into a mundane traffic accident.

If in fact it was a traffic accident, why then did the State Department order a 30-day ban on light rail usage? This paradox presents us with some very troubling conclusions that reek of malevolence.

Quite obviously, the State Department knows that this was a terror attack in its purest form. It was random, indiscriminate and designed to sow fear, panic and maximum casualties. Quite obviously, the terrorist was motivated by blood lust and incited by the Palestinian Authority whose TV, Internet and radio broadcasts (funded by EU and US tax dollars) spew forth a steady diet of anti-Semitic venom. But for the State Department to acknowledge this as a terror attack is to acknowledge that the Palestinians are capable of acting with utmost brutality and depravity and this is a narrative that the State Department wishes to ignore and deep six.

By the same token, the Obama administration desires to undermine Israel at every turn and uses the vast bureaucratic tools at its disposal to carry out this pernicious goal. Hence, it bans its personnel from using the light rail as a way to weaken confidence in the light rail and thus challenge, however subtly, Israel’s sovereignty over its capital. We witnessed similar methodology from the Obama administration during Israel’s summer offensive against the genocidal, ISIS-like Hamas organization when the FAA, almost certainly under Obama’s direction, issued an absurd travel ban on Ben Gurion airport.

There is no airport in the world that is safer than Ben Gurion, but that misses the point. The purpose of the ban as many have speculated had nothing to do with security and everything to do with hurting Israeli interests under the guise of securing the safety of American citizens. If security of US citizens was paramount in Obama’s mind, why then did he not ban travel flights to and from West Africa, when the likelihood of an Ebola pandemic in the US was palpable?

It would not have been palatable for Obama to overtly attack Israel, one of America’s closest allies, while it was in the midst fighting a genocidal foe so Obama had to concoct other, more subtle methods to inflict damage. Bipartisan pressure and public outrage forced a quick reversal of the idiotic FAA directive but the damage – Hamas claimed it was victorious because of the ban – was done and the message Obama was sending was clear – I can hurt you Israel even if congress and the America people support you.

As Prime Minister Netanyahu and others have pointed out, what is also readily apparent is that the light rail terror attack was a direct result of Palestinian incitement, and not just incitement from expected quarters like Hamas, but also from Mahmoud Abbas’s “moderate” Palestinian authority, who hailed the baby killer as a hero and a martyr. But then again, the Palestinians have a long and disgraceful history of lauding those who in the West would be locked up in institutions for the criminally insane.

Of course, Obama and company will sweep these inconvenient indiscretions under the rug and continue to strong-arm Israel into making ludicrous concessions to a depraved enemy for empty promises and vague assurances. But so long as Obama continues to pursue a misguided and convoluted policy of distancing allies and appeasing Holocaust deniers, peace will be nothing more than another Obama pipe-dream.

Two cases of injustice toward soldiers highlight the administration's warped priorities.

Clint Lorance

On October 1, former Navy Lieutenant Commander and 22-year veteran Montel Williams addressed a congressional committee on the subject of Afghan war veteran and US marine, Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi. Tahmooressi was imprisoned by Mexican authorities in March 2014 after mistakenly veering into Mexican territory while driving along a poorly lit section of the border and was found to be in possession of firearms, illegal under Mexican law, but permitted under US law. In an impassioned plea punctuated by heartfelt emotion, Williams drew the logical conclusion concerning the Obama administration’s handling of the matter – that the government is unconcerned about the fate of its soldiers.

For six months, the administration has allowed a marine, diagnosed with PTSD, to languish in a Mexican jail when one phone call from the Commander-in-Chief could liberate him. Instead, the administration has allowed Tahmooressi’s case to wind its way through the notoriously corrupt and bureaucratic Mexican justice system. While the administration’s handling – or rather mishandling – of the Tahmooressi case can at best be described as neglectful, its handling of the case involving another US soldier is downright Kafkaesque and malevolent.

In July 2012 First Lieutenant and platoon commander Clint Lorance was leading his platoon on a patrol in Kandahar in an area known to be a hotbed of insurgent activity. Lt. Lorance was informed by pilots who reconnoitered the area that motorcycle-mounted Taliban terrorists were active in the vicinity. The Taliban routinely employ motorcycles to track US patrols. Moments later, Lorance spotted Afghans riding motorcycles near his patrol. With the information that he already had at his disposal and with the safety of his platoon being paramount, Lorance immediately made a command decision during the fog of war and ordered one of his snipers to neutralize what he considered to be a threat to the well-being of his men. Two Afghans, later found to be unarmed, were killed.

What happened next could have been taken out of a chapter from Orwell’s 1984. Shortly following the incident, Lorance was stripped of his weapon and assigned a desk job. In January 2013, he was charged with murder in connection with the incident and in August 2013, a military court found him guilty of murder and violating the army’s Rules of Engagement and handed down a 20-year sentence.

Lorance is a hero who volunteered to put his life on the line for the cause of freedom and to serve his nation. His lengthy army service has shown him to be nothing but an exemplary soldier whose service record is peppered with commendations and citations. But instead of being treated like a hero, he is treated like a criminal by the very government he swore to protect.

Nothing saps the morale of an army more than knowing that its government doesn’t have its back. This case, as well as the Tahmooressi case, demonstrates with utmost clarity that the Obama administration at best, doesn’t give a damn about its soldiers. A more cynical approach would suggest that the administration is actually working to undermine the morale of its troops.

Some might find these truths too hard to swallow. After all, why would the president keep the United States embroiled in the longest war of its history and then work to actively undermine the ability of the United States servicemen and women to perform their mission? A logical question, indeed. But when one takes a closer look at Obama’s foreign policy, where enemies are coddled and friends are distanced, nothing this administration does seems logical.

Consider also the case of Bowe Bergdahl, a confirmed deserter and possible collaborator, who placed members of his own unit in jeopardy after they launched a frantic search for him. The Obama administration, without informing Congress, released five hardened Taliban terrorists, who will likely return to terror and place additional US personnel in danger, to gain Bergdahl’s release. Heroes are prosecuted and allowed to languish in foreign prisons while Obama places his priorities on releasing deserters for hardened criminals.

During his impassioned address to the committee, Montel informed the members that his 21-year-old son had asked him if he should join the military, to which he responded, “No, because our government doesn’t respect you enough.” Sadly, Montel’s assessment hits the proverbial nail squarely on its head.

Palestinian terrorists ramp up their blood libels against Israel.

The Palestinian Authority’s chief negotiator and ranking member, Saeb Erekat, is once again stirring controversy and fabricating history. Taking cue from his boss, Mahmoud Abbas, who just days prior accused Israel of committing “genocide, “ Erekat absurdly charged Israel with killing 12,000 Gazans during Operation Defensive Edge and, just as ludicrous, alleged that 96% of all casualties sustained were civilians. Where he derives his facts he does not say, but who really cares about facts when Israel is the target of the invective? Just days later, Erekat compounded the vitriolic slander by comparing Prime Minister Netanyahu to ISIS and then went on to charge the Jewish State with burning mosques and churches. Of course, Erekat offers not a scintilla of evidence to back the spurious charge, but no matter: His professed Palestinian pedigree (he’s actually from Jordan by way of Arabia) gives him a free pass to fabricate.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Erekat engaged in mendacious historical revisionism. In April 2002 Israeli forces embarked upon a counter-insurgency campaign in the city of Jenin – dubbed the suicide capital of the West Bank – to rout terror nests that had taken root there and, in an effort to minimize civilian casualties, utilized less lethal methods, incurring greater casualties as a result. When the battle was over, some 52 Palestinians were killed, the vast majority of them PLO and Hamas combatants. That did not stop the deceitful Erekat from claiming that a “massacre” had taken place in which upwards of 500 people – all civilians of course – were killed. Even after a UN commission of inquiry determined that there was in fact no massacre, Erekat refused to issue a retraction, stubbornly clinging to his defamatory fiction.

Not to be outdone, Erekat’s PLO colleague and terrorist apologist Hanan Ashrawi accused Prime Minister Netanyahu of invoking slander, hate language and obfuscation in his recent address in the UN General Assembly. Really, Hanan? Do you want to go down that road? In July, when confronted with pointed questions by a CNN reporter concerning Hamas’s use of UN schools to store rockets, a stumped Ashrawi laughed awkwardly and then deflected, whitewashing blatant Hamas violations of the laws of war.

In March 2013, Ashrawi’s Western funded NGO published a text, in Arabic of course, that repeated the medieval anti-Semitic blood libel that Jews use the blood of Christian children to bake Passover matzah. When challenged, Ashrawi initially attacked the blogger who exposed the canard. She eventually issued an apology for the piece but only after being confronted with the possible loss of Western funding. In other words, her actions were dictated by pecuniary considerations rather than genuine remorse for propagating the most ancient of blood libels.

Erekat’s and Ashrawi’s lies don’t fall far from the poisonous tree. Their boss, ostensibly a moderate, completed his dissertation on Holocaust denial. In the 1980s, Abbas showed us what “Palestinian scholarship” was capable of when he published a malevolent work which, among other gems, posited that less than 1,000,000 Jews were killed by the Nazis and that gas chambers were never employed to murder Jews. Neither the EU nor the Obama administration has taken Abbas to task for spewing such venomous hate, preferring to sweep such inconvenient indiscretions under the rug.

On September 26, in a speech before the General Assembly, Abbas, let loose with an anti-Semitic screed that would have made his Hitler-admiring icon, Haj Amin el-Husseini, proud. Chief among his lies was that Israel was waging a “war of genocide” against the “Palestinian people.” That slander proved too much to bear even for the normally hostile State Department, prompting a stern rebuke from its spokeswoman, Jen Psaki.

The notion that a Palestinian leader — any Palestinian leader — can make a statement these days without lying through his teeth is laughable. Hamas does not have a monopoly on making outrageous statements and accusations. Its partner in crime, the Palestinian Authority routinely spews forth the vilest of lies designed to vilify Israel and its obscenities often veer into blatant anti-Semitism.

In his address to the General Assembly, Prime Minister Netanyahu highlighted several important matters concerning regional and international threats, including Iran’s proliferation activities, Hezbollah, ISIS and Hamas. But of all the threats Israel faces, perhaps none is more insidious than that posed by Mahmoud Abbas’s Palestinian Authority. Whereas ISIS, Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas wear their colors on their sleeves and mince no words when discussing their desire to eradicate Israel (and the West), the PA is more circumspect, preferring to cloud its nefarious desires with platitudes and vague but clearly menacing statements.

In point of fact, the only discernable difference between Hamas and the PA is that members of the latter wear ties. What is crystal clear and beyond dispute is that as long as the PA continues its campaign of vilification, incitement and lies, peace will be as elusive as ever.

By Leslie Stein
Polity, 441 pp.

The recent Hamas-initiated spate of violence in Gaza coupled with the gruesome murder-kidnapping of three Israeli teens by Hamas terrorists in the Judea district has once again brought the Arab-Israeli conflict to the forefront and served to further underscore the violent and nefarious nature of Palestinian rejectionism. One thing that all parties to the Arab-Israeli conflict would agree upon is that there is no shortage of experts willing to express their views on the subject and no shortage of books covering the topic. Many of these books lack any meaningful insight or context or are marked by shoddy scholarship while others are so laced with bias that they read more like banal apparatchik propaganda and impart little if any understanding of the subject.

This, fortunately, is not the case for Leslie Stein’s scholarly work, Israel Since the Six-Day War. This meticulously sourced book represents the last and final chapter of a trilogy of books he authored, the first covering Israel’s formative pre-state years and the second, encompassing the period from Israel’s War of Independence until shortly after the Six-Day War. His latest book does not disappoint and should be mandatory reading for university students, academics, politicians or anyone wishing to gain an insightful understanding of the Arab-Israeli conflict and its political machinations and military dimensions.

For those not privy to his previous books, Stein provides the reader with a brief but detailed history of the conflict up to and including the Six-Day War. In addition to providing excellent analysis of the Arab-Israeli conflict, the book also offers analysis and insight into Israel’s political system, its economic growth and successful efforts at integrating various disparate groups, including Russians, Ethiopians and Israeli Arabs, into Israeli society.

Stein offers a comprehensive review of Israel’s wars and major military engagements since 1967, up to and including Israel’s naval interception of the Mavi Marmara in 2010. Inexplicably however, there is no mention of Operation Orchard, Israel’s successful 2007 strike against a Syrian nuclear bomb-making facility in the Deir ez-Zor region. The strike takes on added significance in light of Assad’s liberal use of WMDs against his own people and the emergence of ISIS and other extremist Islamist groups wishing to inflict mass casualties.

Of particular interest is Stein’s exceptional analysis of the Oslo Accords and its ultimate demise. In 1993, Israel and the PLO, with much pomp and ceremony, signed the Declaration of Principles on the White House lawn. The agreement was designed to be a blueprint for placing the respective parties on the path toward peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues and Arafat was to make a speech in front of numerous world dignitaries where he was to forswear terrorism and wanton acts of violence. The speech, however, was disappointingly devoid of any such reference.

Moreover, Stein sardonically notes that the very day that Arafat “was performing his role as peace-maker and basking in the adoration of politicians and the world media” he issued a prerecorded message in Jordan informing his Arab audience that he had “just accomplished the first step in the PLO’s 1974 plan of dismantling Israel by stages.” Arafat repeated this pernicious theme a few months later when during an off-the-record talk at a Johannesburg mosque, he compared the PLO’s agreement with Israel to Mohammed’s 10-year treaty with the Quraish tribe. Two years later, after achieving military parity, Mohammed abrogated the treaty and vanquished the Quraish.

Stein characterizes Arafat as duplicitous, conniving and malevolent and places the collapse of the Oslo Accords and the conflagration that followed largely on his shoulders. His successor, Mahmoud Abbas, whom Stein describes as a man “who unjustifiably acquired the reputation of being a moderate” does not fare much better.

In meticulous fashion, Stein spells out the repeated and egregious PLO violations of the Accords. For example the agreement specified that the PLO was to have a force no larger than 9,000 troops and its weapons were limited to automatic rifles. However, the force swelled to 30,000 and then 50,000. PLO apparatchiks took advantage of their VIP status to smuggle weapons outlawed under Oslo, such as Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), anti-tank missiles and anti-aircraft guns.

Moreover, the agreement stipulated that the PLO was required to amend its charter and remove portions calling for Israel’s destruction, curb anti-Israel and often times, anti-Semitic incitement and institute measures to suppress terrorism. Needless to say, the PLO failed to live up to its obligations.

Stein is also critical of Israel’s elder statesman, Shimon Peres, hailed as the architect of Oslo, as well as those on the far left for failing to recognize and take action against blatant PLO violations of executed agreements. He also takes them to task for stubbornly clinging to preconceived notions about the peace process and foolishly engaging in wishful thinking. A sort of cognitive dissonance took hold, with Peres and co. unable to countenance any doubts about the wisdom of the entire process. Arafat’s Oslo indiscretions, both major and minor, were routinely overlooked and ignored while Israeli authorities, hoping that goodwill gestures would be met by the same, continued making unilateral concessions while failing to enforce reciprocity. So delusional was Peres that even when confronted with documented proof of Arafat’s involvement with terror, he was largely dismissive of the accusation.

Stein likens Israel’s ostrich-like stance during the Oslo years to its stubbornly held beliefs in connection with the Arab ability and willingness to wage war just prior to the outbreak of hostilities in October 1973. There to, despite the obvious signs of impending war, Israeli leaders stubbornly clung to preconceived notions which led to the army’s woeful unpreparedness when a two-front war finally erupted. While Israel won that war, many lives would have been saved had Israel been more prudent and taken proactive measures in response to the obvious writing on the wall. Similarly, by the time Israel finally put Oslo to rest and initiated a concerted and successful effort against Palestinian terrorism, Arafat’s war had claimed the lives of 1009 Israelis, 78% of whom were civilians.

Stein also takes a swipe at the United Nations, which he regards as today’s modern day purveyor of anti-Israelism and astutely characterizes the body of being co-opted by Muslim nations and their allies. He accuses the body of exercising hypocrisy in the extreme when it comes to Israel, providing ample examples of the damning charge. He also puts the lie to the spurious and malevolent claim leveled by Israel’s shrillest and often times anti-Semitic critics that Israel is an “Apartheid state.” Drawing on a multitude of examples, he dispatches with the canard piecemeal and nothing underscores the point better than the criminal case of Israel’s former disgraced president, Moshe Katzav, who is currently serving a seven-year sentence for sexual assault.

Katzav’s case wound its way before Israel’s High Court of Justice (the equivalent of the United States Supreme Court) where a three-judge panel found him guilty. Salim Joubran, an Israeli Arab, was one of the court’s panel members. It would have been unthinkable for there to have been a judge of color sitting on the highest court during Apartheid-era South Africa let alone one capable of sentencing South Africa’s Afrikaner president to a lengthy prison term.

Stein concludes his book by taking a dim view of the prospects for peace with the Palestinians. Palestinian intransigence and the Palestinian Authority’s inability to countenance two states – Jewish and Arab – for two peoples remains the primary stumbling block. Adding to the complication is the extremist ISIS-like group Hamas, which commands a wide following among Palestinians in Gaza and Judea and Samaria. As for Abbas, even if he was willing, his ability to conclude a deal remains remote given his weak stature and lack of a mandate.

Stein takes an equally stoic view of Iran and its nuclear ambitions. He notes that by now it should be clear that the Obama administration is unwilling to take the decisive steps necessary to thwart the Islamic Republic’s nuclear ambitions and an Israeli strike is unlikely to set back the clock in any meaningful way. Stein therefore concludes that in the absence of a credible American threat, a nuclear Iran is a foregone conclusion.

On Israel itself, Stein remains upbeat and optimistic. He notes that while the world experienced economic malaise during the global economic crisis of 2009-12, Israel’s GDP exceeded that of all other OECD nations. By every metric gauging economic growth – GDP, employment statistics and personal incomes – Israel continues to be among the Western world’s leaders. It maintains excellent educational and healthcare systems with modern and up-to-date infrastructure and has “all the trimmings of an affluent society.”

Socially too, Stein concludes that the outlook appears rosy. Despite the disparate nature of its population, nearly 93% of Israeli Jews noted that they were proud of their Israeli nationality and a Gallup poll ranked Israel 7th in terms of happiness. Israel’s enemies tend to dwell on claims of sagging Israeli morale and general sense of malaise. The hard empirical data suggests that nothing could be further from the truth. In point of fact, while Israel’s enemies continue their precipitous descent into blackness and medieval backwardness, Israel continues to grow stronger militarily, economically and socially.

Stein’s masterful account of Israel’s history since the Six-Day War is well worth reading. Novices wishing to get a firmer understanding of the complexities of the Arab-Israeli conflict as well as those well versed in the subject stand to gain immeasurably by adding this well-researched, scholarly text to their collections.

The terrorist group lives to fight another day after ceasefire.

No sooner had the guns fallen silent in Gaza than Hamas leaders, some emerging from Shifa Hospital, others from five-star Qatari hotels, proclaimed “victory” before a paid crowd of shills and an adoring media. Speaking from his plush surroundings in the pseudo country of Qatar, some 1,000 miles away from the battle, Hamas’s political leader, Khaled Mashaal comically noted that his terrorist group “dazzled the world with its victory and its endurance.” The perfunctory victory proclamation, following defeat at the hands of Israel, has become a cyclical, near ritualistic event in the Arab world.

Gamal Abdel Nasser did it in 1956 after Israel’s takeover of Sinai and routing of his forces stationed there. Anwar Sadat did it in 1973 following the encirclement of his armies by the Israel Defense Forces. Yasser Arafat did it in 1982 when his PLO gangsters were expelled from Lebanon and banished to different parts of the Mideast. Hezbollah’s Hassan Nasrallah did it in 2006 when Lebanon was set back 10 years and Hamas has become proficient in these types of declarations, having performed identical victory rituals twice before, in 2009 and 2012.

Of course these silly, fantasy-like proclamations bare no rational resemblance to reality. In this current round, Hamas took a nasty beating. It lost at least 1,000 of its fighters and some 200 were taken prisoner. Its military leadership was decapitated in a series of punishing strikes. Its rockets were swatted out of the sky by Israel’s marvelous Iron Dome missile defense system and its rocket arsenal was severely depleted. Its command and control was left in tatters and its offensive tunnels, which took years to build and soaked up hundreds of millions of dollars, are no more. Most importantly, none of its demands, the creation of a seaport and an airport and the lifting of the blockade, were met.

The terms which Hamas had agreed to on day 49 of Operation Defensive Edge were precisely the same as those which the organization rejected during the initial days of conflict. To say that Hamas is back to square one would be inaccurate for Hamas emerges from this conflict with substantially less than what it had when it started.

Having been soundly defeated on the battlefield – 10 times since 1948 – Israel’s regressive enemies have adopted a new paradigm for victory – survival. As long as the aggressor survives the battle with his capital intact – more or less – he can declare victory over the Zionist infidels.

It is not a difficult threshold to meet given that the EU and other Western enablers will always seek to prevent Israel from effectuating complete and total victory. A former high level security official noted that had the Israel Defense Forces been unencumbered by political constraints, it could have conquered Gaza within a week and that assessment was echoed by others within the security establishment. Humanitarian concerns and negative world reaction foreclosed that option.

And so, as the brave Hamas groundhogs emerge from their underground shelters situated beneath Shifa hospital and scan the scale of destruction that surrounds them, they declare victory. For the average Westerner, this warped mindset is difficult to explain. But for those well versed in the convoluted machinations of the Arab Middle East, this mentality is a natural outcome of the negative influences that permeate the region.

The Arab world, fed on a steady diet of religious dogma, racist supremacism and xenophobia, where Jews are considered to be the descendants of apes and pigs and non-Muslims are deemed second class citizens, produces thought processes vastly different from those of more progressive societies. Reversals and setbacks, which in the West would produce cause for reflection and introspection, are routinely ignored in the Arab world. A cognitive dissonance of sorts has set in whereby every loss, no matter how complete or devastating, is explained as merely being the will of Allah and a bump on the road toward the path of victory over the infidels.

The guns have now fallen silent in Gaza. In Israel, things will quickly return to normal. Universities will impart knowledge, businesses will thrive and scientific innovation will continue apace. In Gaza too things will return to normal. Hamas will continue to divert humanitarian goods for war making and the Imams will continue preach hate and anti-Semitism, setting the stage for the eleventh round and yet another Arab defeat.

The death of a "moderate" Muslim state.

There is no question that Turkey, because of its size and geo-strategic location maintains a pivotal role in NATO. Its armed forces are NATO’s second largest and its troops had acquitted themselves well during the Korean War. Turkey had also played a constructive role in bridging relations between Israel and the Muslim world acting as an effective interlocutor. But with the ascent of the Islamist Justice and Development party in 2002 and the rise of Recep Tayyip Erdogan as party boss, things have taken a stark turn for the worse.

Under the stewardship of an increasingly unbalanced Erdogan, Turkey has renounced secularism in favor of Islamist dogma and creeping sharia. Turkey’s new president elect has, through intimidation and strong-arm tactics, usurped control of Turkey’s judiciary and press. Indeed, Turkey holds the dubious distinction of being the world’s largest incarcerator of journalists followed only by Iran and China.

An increasingly paranoid Erdogan has also declared war on social media and in March threatened to ban Facebook and YouTube, accusing the sites of “every kind of immorality and espionage for their own ends.” Erdogan had already banned YouTube for two years though the restriction was lifted in 2010.

Erdogan’s disloyalty to the United States and NATO began early in his term of office as prime minister but his betrayals have only increased in recent years.

In March 2003, during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Turkey refused to allow the deployment of US troops on Turkish soil which would have enabled the US to open a second front against Saddam Hussein. Turkey also refused to allow the US to utilize Turkish airspace and airbases to launch strikes against Iraqi forces.

In 2010, Turkey was one of only two nations in the UN Security Council (the other being Brazil) that voted against imposing sanctions against Iran in connection with its nuclear proliferation activities. Turkey (along with China) is currently taking a lead role in helping the Islamic Republic circumvent sanctions, often fronting for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and instituting various other schemes to bypass legal obstacles. Turkey’s stance on Iran has even drawn praise from mullah’s official propaganda outlet, Press TV.

It is clear that Turkey, acting as Iran’s conduit to Europe has become the Islamic Republic’s premier enabler. Turkey’s outreach to Iran represents a disturbing pattern by Erdogan to curry favor with nations and entities whose interests substantially diverge from Washington’s. Turkey has established itself as the world’s foremost supporter of Hamas and Hezbollah, both of which are listed as terrorist organizations by the United States. Turkey has also opted to purchase air defense platforms from a Chinese firm already on a designated sanctions list for violating embargoes against Iran and North Korea. Moreover, the Chinese systems are incompatible with NATO platforms but to Erdogan, NATO’s defense needs play second fiddle to his disconcerting policy of thumbing his nose at the West.

Central to any defense pact and cooperation between allies is trust. But Erdogan has proven that he is anything but trustworthy. In fact, he has established himself as the premier betrayer of trust when, in violation of all norms and protocol within the intelligence community, he betrayed a network of spies working to compile data on Iran’s proliferation activities.

Israel and Turkey have had numerous understandings and agreements with respect to intelligence sharing dating back to the 1950s and it was thought that despite strained ties between Ankara and Jerusalem, the intelligence protocols which had withstood the test of time, would remain intact. Erdogan’s perfidious actions torpedoed those assumptions. Intelligence and security officials from across the political spectrum termed Turkey’s act of betrayal, “despicable” and intimated that Turkey could no longer be trusted with sensitive data.

With every passing day, Erdogan appears more irrational and unbalanced. Protests against his authoritarian style are met with cryptic claims that the unrest was sparked by the “interest rate lobby” and just in case anyone had any doubts about what he meant, his deputy prime minister, Besir Atalay put them to rest when he blamed the “Jewish Diaspora” for the strife.

The Turkish leader’s vitriolic hate toward Israel has veered uncomfortably close to outright Jew-hatred. In September 2011, he absurdly claimed that Israel had killed “hundreds of thousands” of Palestinians in Gaza and adopting a classic anti-Semitic canard, boorishly stated that Israel used the Holocaust as a mechanism to gain world sympathy. In February 2013 Erdogan compared Zionism to fascism and further declared Zionism to be a “crime against humanity.” He also bizarrely accused Israel of engineering the coup that deposed Erdogan’s Muslim Brotherhood ally, Mohammed Morsi prompting the State Department to issue a stern rebuke terming Erdogan’s histrionics, “offensive, unsubstantiated, and wrong.”

During Israel’s recent counter-insurgency efforts against the Hamas terrorist group, Erdogan accused the Jewish State of committing genocide, lamented the fact that not enough Jews had been killed during the conflict and compared Israelis to Adolph Hitler.

These examples just scratch the surface when it comes to Erdogan’s Judeophobia. His hatred of Jews is ingrained and is inspired by a convoluted and radical interpretation of Islam, an interpretation with roots firmly embedded in the teachings of the fascist Muslim Brotherhood. But where there is hatred of Jews, there invariably is hatred of other minorities and misogynistic proclivities. In August, Erdogan lashed out at a female journalist telling her that she “should know [her] place.” That very month, he made pejorative and deprecatory references to Armenians.

There can no longer be any doubt that Erdogan is rabidly xenophobic. His war against social media and cryptic references to international conspiracies to dethrone him are indicative of a delusional mind, one wracked by extreme paranoia and fantasy. His efforts to distance Turkey from the West and undermine American foreign policy are demonstrative of a nefarious agenda. His betrayal of intelligence agents crystalizes the fact that so long as Erdogan maintains the reins of power, Turkey cannot be trusted as a reliable NATO partner. It is time for the United States to reevaluate Turkey’s role in NATO and make clear to Erdogan that there are consequences for his actions.
