The Nashville Jewish Federation apologizes for telling the truth about Islamic anti-Semitism.

Tennessee Islamists recently complained to their friend, Fox Channel 17 news reporter Sky Arnold, about a pamphlet that was inadvertently included in a pro-Israel booth at a school cultural/heritage fair. Looking to incite the Muslim community, the complainants posted this image of the pamphlet that addressed anti-Israel hate messages in Palestinian school materials.

The pamphlet these young radical extremists are referring to looks like the same information that has been documented and catalogued by the translators at Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) since 1996. A 2013 video from the Palestinian Authority TV of two young girls reciting a poem about Jews as the “most evil among creations, barbaric monkeys,” is only one of the many examples that validate the assertions in the pamphlet. There are many more including:

- This young girl’s poem recitation on Palestinian Authority TV: “Our enemy Zion is satan with a tail.” Or this one: “Christians and Jews are inferior, cowardly and despised.”

- The recent Palestinian Authority TV host report that “our prisoners are heroes and not terrorists.” These “heroes” are planners of suicide bombings.

PMW says that exposing the propaganda and separating fact from lies is one way to clear away deliberate obstruction to peace.

Even Hillary Clinton relies on PMW research. Speaking at a 2007 joint press conference with PMW, Clinton said:

“I have been speaking out against the incitement of hate and violence in Palestinian textbooks for years. In 2000 I joined Nobel peace prize winner Elie Wiesel in New York to denounce the lessons of hatred and violence that are part of the curricula in Palestinian schools…..

This propaganda is dangerous. You know, words really matter. Some people sort of downplay the importance of words. But words really matter. Because in idealizing for children a world without Israel, children are taught never to accept the reality of the State of Israel, never to strive for a better future that would hold out the promise of peace and security to them, and is basically a message of pessimism and fatalism that undermines the possibility for these children living lives of fulfillment and productivity.

This has dire consequences for prospects of peace for generations to come

While the photograph above has the PMW and MEMRI websites listed, it is not clear what organization actually published this particular pamphlet. What is clear however, is that the content of the pamphlet has been documented by both PMW and MEMRI and is accurate. It is information that should be of concern to everyone.

If the Tennessee Islamists aren’t convinced by the PMW research, they could watch a few of the videos catalogued by MEMRI, the Middle East Media Research Institute. MEMRI follows what is being said in the Middle East by “monitoring, translating, and studying Arab, Iranian and Turkish media, schoolbooks, and religious sermons.” For example:

http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/1637.htm – TV Host on Hamas TV, Child Saraa Barhoum, Sings: “We Liberated Gaza by Force” Al-Aqsa TV (Hamas/Gaza) – December 20, 2007

http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/2599.htm – TV Cartoon Depicts Koran-Based Story of Jews Being Transformed into Apes Al-Aqsa TV (Hamas/Gaza) – August 25, 2010

http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/2291.htm – Anti-semitic Hamas TV Cartoon Portrays Stereotypical Jews, While Accusing Israeli Education System of Racism Al-Aqsa TV (Hamas/Gaza) – December 4, 2009

And here is the January 2014 New York Times article documenting the negative statements about Israel and Jews in official Palestinian Authority media and textbooks. Research included in the report:

Adolf Hitler is quoted on the websites of Palestinian Authority schools. A young girl appears on Palestinian television, describing Jews as “barbaric monkeys, wretched pigs” and the “murderers of Muhammad,” the Islamic prophet. Maps on the Facebook page of the Palestinian presidential guards do not show Israel. President Mahmoud Abbas himself embraced as “heroes” released Palestinian prisoners who killed Israelis.”

Textbook Used in Tennessee Islamic School Teaches Lies about Jews and Christians

Watch Knoxville Anoor Academy’s 2013 promo video carefully and at minute 1:04 you see a row of textbooks which are Yahiya Emerick’s What Islam Is All About. This text is being used in Islamic private and weekend schools around the U.S., including in Tennessee. According to Emerick, this book was written in standard English to teach Muslim children living in the U.S. about Islam. The following are only a few examples of what the children learn from the Knoxville academy textbook about their Jewish and Christian neighbors:

p. 187 – I. Who Follows Ibrahim’s Example?

“So, although the Christians and Jews may make a big noise about following Prophet Ibrahim, in fact, neither of them do. Prophet Ibrahim fulfilled Allah’s commands, the Jews don’t even follow half of what their corrupted books say. The Christians don’t follow anything except what their philosophers and priests make up from time to time.”

p. 188 – “Prophet Ibrahim called all people to Allah’s way of life. The ‘Jews’ don’t call anybody to anything. They subscribe to a belief in racial superiority calling themselves the ‘chosen’ ones and excluding non-Jews as much as possible. Their religion even teaches them to call down curses upon the worship places of non-Jews whenever they pass by them! They arrogantly refer to anyone who is not Jewish as ‘Gentiles,’ equating them with sin.”

“Prophet Ibrahim told people to do good and he forbade the wrong. Many ‘religious’ and ‘non-religious’ Jews and Christians lead such decadent and immoral lives that lying, alcohol, nudity, pronography, racism, foul language, pre-marital sex, homosexuality and everything else are accepted in their society, churches and synagogues. Just turn on the television in any Jewish or Christian community and see what’s ‘normal.’”

Complaining Islamist Is Also a Vocal BDS Collaborator

After learning about the pamphlet, local agitator, Drost Kokoye, contacted apologist reporter Sky Arnold who wrote about the story. Arnold reported that after students and parents complained about the pamphlet, the Nashville Jewish Federation issued an apology for offending Muslim sensitivities.

But Tennessee Islamist Drost Kokoye’s only interest is in censorship and incitement. As she said, the offered apology isn’t adequate. Of course not, because her real agenda is more in line with her Quaranic doctrine. She is a vigorous advocate of BDS (boycott, divestment and sanctions) against the State of Israel and agitation against Jews.

Kokoye, who previously was a local organizer for the TN Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC), now works with Muslim youth and is a board member of the Muslim Youth Network of TN (MYNT) and the TN American Muslim Advisory Council (AMAC). She collaborates closely with her friend, Remziya Suleyman, Dir. of the Islamist American Center for Outreach (ACO) and conveniently takes the role of “bad cop” for Suleyman, the Muslim voice of Tennessee, on sensitive interfaith issues like BDS.

Kokoye takes her inspiration from Islamic extremists like Siraj Wahhaj, Zaid Shakir, Muslim Brotherhood leader Jamal Badawi, and more recently, her twitter buddy BDS leader, Ali Abunimah. She was very young when she and her family came to the U.S. as refugees from Iraq, and she seems to regret this move because she routinely expresses her disdain for Americans, calling them “stupid,” especially those she labels as “white people.”

Why Doesn’t the Jewish Federation Stand Up to Jew Haters?

Should the Jewish Federation’s director Mark Freedman have done the Obama-Cairo bow and scrape? Doesn’t Freedman understand yet that pro-BDS Jew and Israel haters like Drost Kokoye aren’t interested in apologies or appeasement of any degree? Doesn’t he understand that what she really seeks is the Islamist brass ring of full-blown dhimmitude for Jews? What will he say when CAIR insists that the Federation staff needs CAIR’s special sensitivity training?

Maybe Freedman should read what is posted on the national Jewish Federation website and the local Nashville Federation website. Myth and Fact #248 titled “People of the Book, Jews and Christians are protected under Islamic law” explains the dhimmi relationship. This entry ends on a statement of clarity that Freedman would do well to review: “The attitude of the Muslims toward the Christians and the Jews is that of a master towards slaves, whom he treats with a certain lordly tolerance so long as they keep their place. Any sign of pretension to equality is promptly repressed.”

Myth and Fact #219 (#9 on the Nashville Federation website), is titled “Muslim schools in the United States teach tolerance of Judaism and other faiths, and promote coexistence with Israel.” Turns out this is the “myth.” This entry explains that Muslim schools in the United States, similar to schools in Arab and Islamic countries are likewise “indoctrinat[ing] students with hatred of Jews and Israel.”

With the recent start of the virulently anti-Israel, Jew-hating Students for Justice in Palestine student organization at UT-Knoxville, school districts in Tennessee using textbooks with overly pro-Palestinian terrorist whitewashing, CAIR anti-Semites training Muslim students, and now anti-Israel agitators like Drost Kokoye pushing BDS, it may be time for the Nashville Jewish community to wake up to the dangers confronting them and seek out strong and insightful leaders.

Nashville is not the only target for these Islamist agitators. The Nashville Jewish community is like all the rest in the U.S. This appeasement is a systemic problem and needs to be addressed.

According to Winston Churchill, “an appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.”

You are talking anti-Semitism.”

– Martin Luther King, Jr., Harvard University 1968.

In 2013, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) announced its status as an official student organization at UT-Knoxville. With about 100 chapters at last count, SJP organizes extreme hate-filled anti-Israel activity on college campuses around the country, including:

Israel Apartheid Week – typically held between February – March and involves:

Staging mock checkpoints where they stop students and yell “Are you Jewish?”

Erecting “Apartheid Walls” with “Hamas posters describing Jews as baby-killers and maps showing the Jewish state erased and replaced with ‘Palestine.’”

Posting eviction notices on dorm room doors to simulate housing demolition in Israel.

BDS resolutions (boycott, divestment and sanctions against the State of Israel), calling for economic warfare agains the Jewish state. (The first divestment campaign was launched at UC Berkley on Holocaust Remembrance Day.)

Hosting extremist/radical anti-Israel speakers who support terrorism against the State of Israel.

Protesting pro-Israel groups, events and speakers. (SJP members at University of California, Irvine heckled Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren throughout his speech until they were removed by campus security.)

Disrupting campus Holocaust memorial events and even worse, their perversion of the famous Holocaust quote “never again.”

Reports about vandalism of campus Jewish facilities, harassment of Jewish professors and students and even physical attacks by members of SJP have been reported at some schools.

If this is what SJP is reported to do, is this what UT-Knoxville can expect?

UT-Knoxville SJP’s Faculty Sponsor is Dr. Brian K. Barber, a 1996-97 grant recipient from the Center for Policy Analysis on Palestine (CPAP), renamed the Palestine Center, which is the educational arm of the Jerusalem Fund.

The chairman of the Jerusalem Fund is Samar Ali’s father, Subhi Ali. The Jerusalem Fund’s Executive Director openly advocates BDS (boycott, divestment and sanctions) against the State of Israel. (See, “Samar Ali: Her Father’s Organization Wants to Destroy Israel.”)

About SJP

Like Jerusalem Fund founder Hisham Sharabi and community organizations that support “radical Palestinian terror groups,” SJP gives voice to student members who refuse to condemn terrorism.

SJP was founded in 2001 by co-founders Hatem Bazian, the Islamist, and Snehal Shingavi, the socialist — a “leftist-Islamist” alliance (also referred to as a “red-green” alliance). This joinder has allowed the SJP to appeal to a broader coalition, which includes left-wing activists and religio-cultural political groups like the Muslim Students Association.

Hatem Bazian Brought His Middle East Hate to School

Virulently anti-Semitic Jew-hater who came as a college student to the U.S. from the Hamas stronghold of Nablus in the West Bank.

Served as President of the General Union of Palestinian Students, the student arm of the PLO and an organization that was banned in Germany after the Munich Olympics massacre.

Served as Muslim Students Association (MSA) president at Berkley

Was a fundraising speaker for Kindhearts, a Hamas front closed by the US government after being considered for designation as a terrorist organization

Co-founded Zaytuna College with Zaid Shakir, a repeat visitor to Nashville who tells his college audiences that, “under Islamic law the kafir won’t be equal with the Muslim. The Christian or the Jew will be a dhimmi. They won’t be equal with the Muslim.” He was quoted in the New York Times as saying that “he still hoped that one day the United States would be a Muslim country ruled by Islamic law.”

Founded and chairs the national extremist anti-Israel organization American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) which helps train and support SJP activists. SJP’s 2002 national convention was sponsored by the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP), with guest speaker Sami al-Arian.

The IAP was created by a Hamas leader to be its U.S. propaganda arm and raise money for Hamas. IAP was listed as one of the Muslim Brotherhood’s likeminded organizations in the Muslim Brotherhood’s strategic plan for North America. IAP’s leadership founded CAIR – the Council on American Islamic Relations.

Sami al-Arian was the head of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in the U.S. In 2006 when he was sentenced to 57 months in prison in connection with PIJ activities, the judge described him as a “master manipulator.” This past December, he was on Capitol Hill advocating for the restoration of Morsi’s ousted Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

Al-Arian also founded WISE (World and Islam Studies Enterprise). Hisham Sharabi, founder of the Jerusalem Fund, was a WISE Board member. Subhi Ali, Samar’s father, served alongside Sharabi until taking over as Chairman of the Jerusalem Fund. WISE was named in a federal indictment as part of a “criminal organization whose members and associates engaged in acts of violence including murder, extortion, money laundering, fraud and issue of visas, and operated worldwide,” including in Florida.

AMP

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), describes AMP as “anti-Semitism under the guise of educating Americans about the just cause of Palestine and the rights of self-determination.”

AMP’s first conference in 2006 featured several former IAP leaders including Rafiq Jaber, Kifa Mustapha (imam at the radicalized Bridgeview mosque and unindicted Holy Land Foundation co-conspirator), Nihad Awad (Executive Director of CAIR and also an unindicted co-conspirator), and Osama Abu Irshaid (former head of the Holy Land Foundation, IAP board member and now AMP board member).

At a George Washington University SJP event, Osama Abu Irshaid told his audience that he considers firing rockets from Gaza into Israel “legitimate resistance.”

AMP’s continuing allegiance to terrorist organizations like Hamas has continued throughout their annual conferences. The opening speech at the 2010 conference featured Holy Land Foundation (HLF) prosecution unindicted co-conspirator, Jamal Said, another imam at the radicalized Bridgeview mosque. The HLF prosecution was the largest terrorism financing prosecution in the U.S. involving the HLF charity being used to funnel money to Hamas.

To get a sense of what AMP is really about, look at who it has speak at its events: Nihad Awad has stated publicly that “I am in support of the Hamas movement” and Rafiq Jaber (another founding member of CAIR), who was quoted as “describ[ing] Jews to the audience as ‘the worst kind of people,’ who came to Jerusalem ‘with false pretenses.’”

Hamed Ghazali, chairman of the MAS Council of Islamic Schools, was also a speaker at the AMP conference. He was quoted as saying that, “Allah gave us the Jews” as the primary historical and religious example of those who “take the wrong path.” He is named in the Muslim Brotherhood memorandum and was hired by the Islamic Pleasant View School in Memphis, TN as the Islamic Studies consultant.

AMP also works with the high school Muslim Student Associations. AMP’s 2012 “Palestine Activism” conference was co-hosted with a California high school MSA and featured Israel demonizer and former Jerusalem Fund fellow, Ali Abunimah. AMP also held a high school training session, including media activism, at the Islamic Foundation School in Villa Park, Illinois.

AMP’s National Campus Coordinator, Taher Herzallah teaches students how to be radical activists. He was one of the students arrested for heckling and disrupting Israeli Ambassador Oren’s speech at the University of California, Irvine.

Muslim Students Association and SJP

One researcher/writer describes the MSA and SJP as “genetically connected groups,” listing the many ways these two groups resemble each other and work together. He cites to the civil rights lawsuit filed against the U of California, Berkley after a Jewish student was attacked by an SJP agitator:

“[T]he two groups [MSA and SJP] not only co-sponsor events and cooperate on strategic projects, but they even share the same office and campus facilities. The more publicly activist SJP may be understood as the militant arm of the outwardly benevolent MSA. Members of the former are often members of the latter.”

A good example is the UC Berkley Islamist Sadia Saifuddin, who was nominated to serve as the 2014 -15 student regent on the board that sets policy for the entire University of California system. She is a member of both the MSA and SJP and co-sponsored a BDS resolution in the Berkeley student Senate calling on the entire University of California system to divest companies that do business with Israel.

These student groups well understand that the overarching goal and intent of BDS is to ultimately destroy and eliminate the State of Israel. A 2012 Northeastern University SJP rally included chanting “Palestine will be free, from the river to the sea” which means there would be no Israel between the Jordan River and Mediterranean—and no Jews.

Alternatively, they will settle for a second Holocaust. During a 2010 Israeli Apartheid Week at UC San Diego, speaker David Horowitz asked if an MSA member would condemn Hamas and Hizbollah. When the young woman tried to dodge the question, he rephrased: “I am a Jew. The head of Hizbollah has said that he hopes that we will gather in Israel so he doesn’t have to hunt us down globally. For or Against it?” Her answer: “For it.”

SJP’s Faculty Advisor’s Connections

UT-Knoxville SJP’s Faculty Sponsor, Dr. Brian K. Barber, also heads the UTK Center for the Study of Youth in Political Conflict (the Center). The Center’s mission is to help adolescents find out the source of the political conflict they experience and endorse or refute it.

Dr. Barber has been traveling to Palestine for over 20 years; perhaps that is how he connected with his Center’s Board member, Ms. Cairo Arafat. She was born in the U.S. but has resettled in the West Bank. She actively participates in the BDS movement there. She complains about security checkpoints and the security fence, without of course mentioning the Palestinian suicide bombers who blow themselves up in civilian settings like the Sbarro pizza restaurant and the terrorists who are subsequently glorified by their media.

“Zionists are the new Nazis! Zionists are the new Nazis!” was the hate-filled chanting of Arafat’s BDS protest group. Arafat says that she believes BDS will force Israel “to see [Palestinians] as equal partners, not as in a captive market or a group of people that they can exploit.”

BDS protestors persist in attacking Israeli businesses, such as SodaStream, that employ hundreds of Palestinian workers who are paid the same as Israeli employees, have all religious needs accommodated, and are working in an environment of respect where genuine relationships are reported to be taking hold.

The Interfaith Boycott Coalition includes “Jewish Voice for Peace, the Presbyterian Church USA’s Israel-Palestine Mission Network, the Episcopal Peace Fellowship’s Palestine-Israel Network, United Church of Christ Palestine-Israel Network and Response, the United Methodist Kairos Response” along with Muslim Brotherhood-linked Islamists.

AMP is also a member. Zaid Shakir and CAIR Director Zahra Billoo (a friend and colleague of Remziya Suleyman, who tweets support for Hamas), are supporters. All have ties to Tennessee.

Other Anti-Israel BDS Efforts in Tennessee

Endtheoccupation.org lists the following Tennessee member groups: Progressive Student Alliance at UT-Knoxville, the Mid-South Peace and Justice Center in Memphis and the Network for Environmental & Economic Responsibility of UCC in Pleasant Hill.

This coalition’s focus on delegitimizing the State of Israel, is also designed to convince black Americans that they have more to gain by aligning with the Palestinian “cause.” This premise is more than disingenuous given that the Arabic word “abeed” (sometimes spelled “and”), meaning “slave,” is used by Muslims to refer to black people, an issue that CAIR Director Dawud Walid complains about often.

Stunning Revelation That Tennesseans Should Heed

Palestinian journalist Khaled Abu Toameh had this to say after visiting several U.S. university campuses:

“Listening to some students and professors on these campuses, for a moment I thought I was sitting opposite a Hamas spokesman or a would-be-suicide bomber.

I was told, for instance, that Israel has no right to exist, that Israel’s ‘apartheid system’ is worse than the one that existed in South Africa …

What struck me more than anything else was the fact that many of the people I met on the campuses supported Hamas and believed that it had the right to “resist the occupation” even if that meant blowing up children and women on a bus in downtown Jerusalem.

The so-called pro-Palestinian “junta” on the campuses has nothing to offer other than hatred and de-legitimization of Israel. If these folks really cared about the Palestinians, they would be campaigning for good government and for the promotion of values of democracy and freedom in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Their hatred for Israel and what it stands for has blinded them to a point where they no longer care about the real interests of the Palestinians, namely the need to end the anarchy and lawlessness, and to dismantle all the armed gangs that are responsible for the death of hundreds of innocent Palestinians over the past few years……

What is happening on the U.S. campuses is not about supporting the Palestinians as much as it is about promoting hatred for the Jewish state. It is not really about ending the “occupation” as much as it is about ending the existence of Israel…..

What is happening on these campuses is not in the frame of freedom of speech. Instead, it is the freedom to disseminate hatred and violence. As such, we should not be surprised if the next generation of jihadists comes not from the Gaza Strip or the mountains and mosques of Pakistan and Afghanistan, but from university campuses across the U.S.”

What Can UT-Knoxville Expect From Its SJP Chapter?

Perhaps there could be a surprise visit from Jerusalem Fund Chairman, Subhi Ali, since Waverly, TN is only a four-hour drive away. Former college Middle Eastern Student Association activist, daughter Samar Ali, could be a featured speaker and talk about why she chose a career with a Middle East focus including “Sharia compliant transactions” and her work on behalf of the Jerusalem Fund. With JF’s support for BDS, they would be a natural fit for an SJP meeting.

The Islamic Center of Nashville, (owned by Muslim Brotherhood front group ISNA), might be inspired to restart its pro-Palestinian anti-Israel demonstrations. Better yet, Knoxville Muslim youth minister AbdelRahman Murphy, who works with both students at the Knoxville Islamic school Anoor Academy and the Muslim Students Association at UTK, can help spread the BDS message throughout the Knoxville Muslim student community. Not only would this be consistent with what students are being taught about Jews at the Anoor Academy, but also with his colleague and BDS promoter, Suhaib Webb, with whom he presents programs to the MSA.

There are any number of challenges facing the UT-Knoxville campus regarding anticipated anti-Israel hate activity.

Between SJP’s faculty advisor Dr. Brian Barber’s focused interest and support for all things Palestinian, his own early connection to the Jerusalem Fund, his board member Cairo Arafat’s commitment to BDS, the MSA’s history with SJP and the UT-K MSA’s choice of speakers, and SJP’s raison d’être, we can reasonably assume that UT-Knoxville will soon see this radical anti-Israel hate activity on its campus.

By any means possible.

Dr. Subhi Ali, Chairman of the Jerusalem Fund, is the father of Haslam appointee Samar Ali. Dr. Ali’s organization advocates BDS (boycott, divestment and sanctions) against Israel as a way to end Israel as a Jewish state; to destroy it by any means possible.

Hisham Sharabi, who founded the the Jerusalem Fund (JF) in 1990, along with its programmatic arms including the Palestine Center (previously named the Center for Policy Analysis on Palestine), endorsed the anti-Israel rhetoric and actions of pro-Palestinian groups like Hamas.

As detailed in Newsletter #39, Dr. Ali joined the JF in 2000, became Vice-Chair in 2004 alongside founder Sharabi and has served as Chairman since 2005.

The Hamas Charter is posted on the JF website, along with position papers and information briefs suggesting that there are positive aspects to Hamas. Is this JF’s effort to help legitimize Hamas regardless of its terrorist designation? Or is it because JF’s founder Sharabi supported Hamas’ strikes against Israel?

The terrorism financing prosecution referred to as “The Holy Foundation” (HLF) involved the largest pro-Palestinian Islamic charity in the U.S. It was designated as a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” and shut down by the U.S. government. Its leadership was convicted for raising money for the designated terrorist group, Hamas. Just like the Jerusalem Fund, HLF’s mission was to provide humanitarian assistance to needy Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza. But HLF was proven to be a funding source for Hamas whose avowed purpose is to destroy Israel. The Hamas charter advocates violent jihad as the only solution. The charter identifies Hamas as Muslim Brotherhood.

A 1979 report “Anti-Israel Influences in American Churches” referred to “Dr. Hisham Sharabi, president of the National Association of Arab Americans, who has been publicly criticized by moderate Arab-American leaders for his defense of Palestinian terrorist tactics.” A former student also noted Sharabi’s support of “radical Palestinian terror groups.”

Sharabi described Hamas as “the true fida’i (self-sacrifice) resistance in Palestine since the outbreak of the Palestinian intifada.” In 2003 he said:

“In the face of relentless Israeli force, the only weapon the helpless and desperate have is to fling their bodies against the beast. Suicide bombings are no longer the lone act of desperate fanatics, but have become a conscious weapon of resistance and war. The culture of death and self-sacrifice is spreading in many Arab and Muslim countries.”

Of course when you consider Sharabi’s affiliation with WISE and Sami al-Arian of Palestinian Islamic Jihad notoriety, it all makes more sense.

The Jerusalem Fund and BDS

Keeping with its anti-Israel campaign,Yousef Munayyer in his position as Director of the Jerusalem Fund, openly supports and advocates for BDS against the State of Israel.

In a January 2013 “Palestine Note” video interview, JF’s Munayyer discusses his support for BDS. While he is disappointed that BDS has not yet been adopted by world governments, being blocked for now by the U.S. at the UN Security Council, Munayyer resigns himself to accepting BDS initiatives from non-state actors. As he says, “while BDS is not the most efficient way, BDS is the only option people have left.”

Sounds eerily similar to the justification given for why Palestinian suicide bombers blow themselves up in civilian settings like the Sbarro pizza restaurant and why the terrorists are subsequently glorified by their media.

Why does the leadership of the Jerusalem Fund promote BDS? Because the end goal of the BDS movement is to end Israel as a Jewish state. And destroying Israel means destroying Jews. Same objective as the “radical Palestinian terror groups” Sharabi is reported to have supported. Just a different means.

Law school professor William Jacobson explains, “BDS should being seen for the anti-Semitic movement it is, a movement that demonizes only the Jewish State, holds only the Jewish State to the highest standards no one else meets (certainly not in the Middle East), and seeks the destruction only of the sole Jewish State in a sea of Islamic States.”

Former Jerusalem Fund Palestine Fellow, and Electronic Intifada co-founder Ali Abuminah is a virulently hateful anti-Israel voice on the internet and on the speaking circuit, including college campuses. Abuminah served as Vice-President on the board of the Arab American Action Network, a controversial anti-Israel organization founded by Rashid Khalidi and his wife who coincidentally are friendly with the Obamas.

Sharabi, Ali, Munayyer, Abuminah and their fellow Israel haters well understood that the Palestinian suicide bombers of the second intifada in 2000 laid the foundation for the BDS assault on Israel’s legitimacy and right to exist.

There is also the matter of Subhi Ali’s financial support for anti-Israel politicians like U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney. Is that why he also donated to Tennessee Senator Mark Norris?

When news first broke and questions were raised about Samar Ali’s hiring, ECD Commissioner Bill Hagerty told the June session of First Tuesday that Subhi Ali called him and asked him to look at Samar’s resume, which includes work done on behalf of the Jerusalem Fund. Sounds like Haggerty knows Subhi Ali and his family pretty well. Makes you wonder whether Haggerty agrees with their politics?

*************

Subhi Ali has chosen to align himself with and lead an organization that has committed itself to a course of action which at its core, is intended to destroy the State of Israel.

Politics may make strange bedfellows, but you always have a choice about who you wake up to in the morning.

Never one to shy away from Obama’s agenda for the U.S., Governor Haslam’s push to elevate the political status of Muslims in his state must leave Tennesseans wondering if their Republican governor is actually a Democrat.

Governor Haslam’s promotion of the Islamist agenda in his state progressed from having his Commissioner of Safety and Homeland Security work behind the scenes to support and partner with the American Muslim Advisory Council to having the Muslim Council train state law enforcement and Department of Children’s Services staff. Meanwhile, he appointed shariah compliant finance specialist, Samar Ali as International Director for the TN Department of Economic and Community Development.

Unfortunately for the Governor, his appointment of Samar Ali (whose donation to Democrat Harold Ford, Jr. and later the Obama Victory Fund didn’t raise an eyebrow) resulted in harsh criticism from Tennessee conservatives. Attempting to deflect criticism, the Governor’s office publicly released Ms. Ali’s credentials but was careful to redact her extensive experience and expertise in shariah finance. But the release included references to her father’s curriculum vitae to convince the public that this family from Waverly was 100% Tennessean.

No one can dispute the accomplishments of Dr. Subhi Ali, Samar’s father, but his very active Red/Green political life was conspicuously omitted by the Governor. For example, Dr. Ali and his wife were multi-year donors (see here and here) to pro-Hamas/anti-Israel Democrat Cynthia Mckinney, political support consistent with Dr. Ali’s long-standing service to the Jerusalem Fund.

The Jerusalem Fund – The Holy Land Foundation II?

The Jerusalem Fund (originally the American Palestine Education Foundation) was founded in 1977 by Dr. Hisham Sharabi who served as Chairman of the Board until he died in 2005. Despite self-description as “non-political”, review of the Fund’s leadership, programming, and issues of focus, reflects an overtly pro-Palestinian/pro-Hamas/anti-Israel posture. Documents currently available show that Subhi Ali joined the Jerusalem Fund’s Board in 2000, became Vice Chair in 2003 and has served as Chairman from 2005 until the present.

The Jerusalem Fund is comprised of 3 programs:

1) The Palestine Center offers Information Briefs such as the “Rising support for Hamas and the Roots of its Success in Palestine “ (“One of Hamas’ more distinctive qualities is its emphasis on Islam. In addition to its self-proclaimed role as a legitimate and honest replacement to Fateh, Hamas also acts as a religious alternative to the secular Fateh.”)

2) The Humanitarian Link, which provides grants for social services in the “Occupied Palestinian Territories” and supports the Palestine Diabetes Institute.

(Originally named the “Occupied Land Fund,” the Holy Land Foundation was the largest Islamic charity in the U.S., which also claimed the need for humanitarian relief for Palestinians in the occupied territories. The Holy Land Foundation was successfully prosecuted in 2007 for funding Hamas).

3) The Gallery, which promotes the Palestinian and Arab cultures.

Fund founder Hisham Sharabi advocated a Palestinian “armed struggle” if necessary, to end Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. His 1998 paper “The Palestinians: Fifty Years Later,” called for Americans of Palestinian, Arab and Muslim backgrounds to organize using their “constitutional rights as Americans” to “influence a dangerously biased [toward Israel] American policy in the Middle East.”

Sharabi’s political activities also included serving on the board of World & Islam Studies Enterprise (WISE), and along with Jerusalem Fund co-founder and board member, Dr. George Hishmeh, served on the Board of the American Committe on Jerusalem (ACJ).

You Are Known By the Company You Keep

WISE was founded, incorporated and led by Sami al-Arian who was subsequently sentenced in 2006 to prison and deportation because of his leadership of the U.S.-designated terrorist organization Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).

WISE was named in a federal indictment as part of a criminal organization whose members and associates engaged in acts of violence including murder, extortion, money laundering, and fraud. They operated worldwide including the Middle District of Florida.

WISE Board members included:

Taha Jabir al Alwani – President, IIIT; cited as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Justice Department’s terrorism prosecution against al-Arian.

Basheer Nafi - charged with “conspiracy to murder, maim or injure persons outside the United States” and a significant leader of the PIJ; was indicted by the FBI in absentia.

Mazin an Najjar - a founding member of WISE, was arrested on secret FBI evidence that he supported terrorism and was associated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and a threat to national security. He was deported from the U.S. in 2002.

Ramadan Abdullah aka Ramadan Shallah - currently on the FBI Most Wanted List, co-founder of WISE, and listed as a “Specially Designated Terrorist.” He was named a leader of PIJ in 1995.

WISE served as the U.S. money-receiving front for PIJ and while Sharabi was a board member, funneled payments to the PIJ martyrs through the Islamic International Arab Bank (Arab Bank). In addition to a DOJ investigation begun in 2004, a lawsuit filed in 2007 by victims of the PIJ martyrs against Arab Bank (ongoing in 2012), alleged that Arab Bank financed Palestinian terrorism by using Hamas and PIJ “martyr kits” to make payments to suicide bombers’ surviving family members.

Samar Ali worked as a legal intern at the Arab Bank at the time the lawsuit was filed. How did she end up at a bank being investigated for laundering money for her father’s close associate’s organization? Does Governor Haslam know about this?

WISE was funded by the Muslim Brotherhood’s International Institute on Islamic Thought (IIIT). Tarik Hamdi, identified as an officer/staff member of WISE is listed in a federal affidavit as providing material support to Al-Qaeda, Bin Laden and the PIJ. He left WISE to work for IIIT. He subsequently left the U.S. and relocated to the Middle East.

The IIIT was named in the 1991 Muslim Brotherhood document “An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America” as one of the Muslim Brotherhood’s likeminded “organizations of our friends.”

Under Sharabi and Subhi Ali’s leadership, the Jerusalem Fund partnered with Life for Relief & Development (LIFE) which was raided by the FBI in 2006 “less than two months” after CAIR sent out an “Action Alert” asking people “to aid in collecting and sending [relief] supplies to LIFE.” The final destinations of the supplies were Lebanon and Gaza, where Israel was battling Hezbollah and Hamas. LIFE has been a “partner” organization to numerous groups with terror ties, including Human Concern International, Jerusalem Fund, ICNA Helping Hand, Islamic Relief and Human Appeal International.”

Subsequent to the raid, LIFE’s public relations coordinator, Muthanna al-Hanooti was indicted as an agent for Saddam Hussein’s government paid to manipulate U.S. officials. He pled guilty and faces a four year prison sentence. Al-Hanooti had also served as executive director of CAIR Michigan in 2000.

It should come as no surprise to anyone to see CAIR pop up given that Sami al-Arian and Hamas operative Mousa Abu Marzook, co-founded the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP), the parent organization of CAIR. Marzook also established the Holy Land Foundation. Is it any wonder then that once again in the 2009 federal appeal, Judge Solis confirmed that there was “ample evidence to establish the associations CAIR, ISNA, NAIT with NAIT, the Islamic Association for Palestine and with Hamas.”

Time and again cases are prosecuted and it is proven that an Islamic charity has been used to raise and funnel money to support Islamic terrorist organizations. Looking at terrorism financing cases such as the Holy Land Foundation, WISE, Kindhearts, Benevolence International Foundation, al-Haramain Foundation, Global Relief Foundation and others, shouldn’t a prosecutor be asking whether Hisham Sharabi’s legacy, the Jerusalem Fund now chaired by Dr. Subhi Ali, is following suit?

It looks like the Jerusalem Fund is registered in every state except Louisiana. Tennesseans and concerned citizens in other states should be looking carefully at who is doing what in their state offices. Be assured, the Red/Green alliance is busy while we sleep.
