In 2011, a study claimed that losing weight could help save the planet from the Flying Global Warming Monster.

Being overweight is bad for the environment as well as your health, according to a study released today.

Researchers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine found that overweight people were likely to be more responsible for carbon emissions than slim people because they consume more food and fuel.

We estimated that a 10 kg weight loss of all obese and overweight people would result in a decrease of 49.560 Mt of CO(2) per year, which would equal to 0.2% of the CO(2) emitted globally in 2007. This reduction could help meet the CO(2) emission reduction targets and unquestionably would be of a great benefit to the global health.

Science spoke. And only a bunch of ignorant mouth-breathing troglodytes who don’t follow Neil deGrasse Tyson on Twitter would dare to disagree.

But no wait. Apparently losing weight does cause Global Warming.

Despite a worldwide obsession with diets and fitness regimes, many health professionals cannot correctly answer the question of where body fat goes when people lose weight, a new study shows. The most common misconception among doctors, dieticians and personal trainers is that the missing mass has been converted into energy or heat. The correct answer is that most of the mass is breathed out as carbon dioxide and goes into thin air.

But wait. Obesity also causes Global Warming.

Expanding waistlines are not just tipping scales but may also push the mercury higher around the world, according to a new study.

As humanity becomes more rotund, more resources are needed to cool, nourish and transport the extra weight, a trend that can contribute to climate change by requiring the consumption of more fossil fuels and resulting in more greenhouse gas emissions.

Whether or not you lose weight, you’re destroying the planet… because you’ve alive. But let’s hear from other leading experts, like Hillary Clinton.

Speaking to State Department staff on Earth Day, Mrs Clinton said more must be done to reduce the department’s environmental footprint and conceded this was a big challenge, much like one of her personal battles.

“Often times when you face such an overwhelming challenge as global climate change, it can be somewhat daunting – it’s kind of like trying to lose weight, which I know something about,” she said to laughter.

But wait, Latino Fox News says Italian mountain goat-antelopes are losing weight because of Global Warming. So it’s all right then.

"As Ferguson burns, I hear the voice inside me chant, “Burn on...”

They want peace. No really. And the New York Times is just a dispassionate observer looking for reform and change. Not mass murder.

But Nicholas Kristof had one of his “Take the Mask Off Moments” when the radical left shows how ugly and unhinged it really is despite its facade of dinner parties and book clubs and that its media outlets promote violence.

And so he invited readers to send in poems about the usual stuff. Bunnies. Flowers. Killing all white people and burning America to the ground. And the emphasis was not on the bunnies and flowers.

Here’s a deranged screech of hate/incitement to violence that the leftist paper of record saw fit to run.

Angel Butts, a white woman married to a black man and the mother of “two beautiful brown babies,” said she hadn’t written a poem in 20 years.

Here’s what Angel Butts and Kristof had to offer.

And so, as Ferguson burns, I hear the voice inside me chant, “Burn on…”
Let the fires burn until every city, every town is on its knees.

Great plan. Why doesn’t Butts start with her house? Or the New York Times HQ. But of course it’s easy to cheer torching other people’s homes.

Kristof reminds us once again that the protests are as violent and bigoted as any Klan rally and that their supporters and cheerleaders are violent racists, thrilling to beating up convenience store workers and burning buildings.

That is what the left has always been. That is what it always is. That is why there is no living with the left. You can’t live with people whose idea of social justice is killing you and burning your house down.

Like so many of the violent leftists parading around with the #BlackLivesMatter gang, Angela Butts is a social sciences academic lecturing on Sociology at Rutgers and the College of State Island Is Rutgers aware of her support for violence and mass murder?

Samia Khan, said her brother is a devout Muslim.

A surprising amount of “Islamophobic” hate crimes, particularly those involving mosque vandalism, turn out to have been committed by Muslims.

A few days ago the media was trumpeting the latest Islamophobic hate crime. Even the FBI got involved.

Fresno police say a lone suspect vandalized the Islamic Cultural Center in Northeast Fresno on Christmas morning. Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer says it is clear the incident is a hate crime which is why the FBI is also investigating this case.

Seven doors and windows around the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno are broken. Dyer says river rocks were tossed through them at 10 a.m. Christmas morning. Surveillance video shows the suspect pulling up in what appears to be a Toyota Prius and shattering the windows. Then he went inside.

I’m not sure why vandalism requires an FBI investigation, but Muslim privilege always comes first. And as in a number of previous cases, the perp turned out to be a member of the Religion of Peace.

The man who vandalized the Islamic Cultural Center on Christmas Day also vandalized and burglarized a business about two miles away because he thought he was getting back at the family of a girl who he believed had disrespected and bullied him, police said Saturday.

Asif Mohammad Khan, 28, who is Muslim, was arrested the day of the burglaries and vandalism at the Fresno Digestive Center, 7405 N. Fresno St., and the Islamic Cultural Center near Nees and Maple avenues.

Dyer said that in the days before the vandalism, Khan had posted on social media that Osama bin Laden was the “most inspirational person in his life.” He said Khan also made references to Adolf Hitler.

So obviously he’s crazy, is the story the cops and the media are going with. A Muslim who makes references to Osama bin Laden, pours bleach on an American flag, and thinks that a mosque isn’t Islamic enough… must be mentally ill. He can’t be a Jihadist.

Khan’s sister, Samia Khan, said her brother is a devout Muslim. He prays five times a day, but attends Friday prayers in a different mosque. She said her parents were “deeply sorry” for the damage.

So much for the hate crime and the FBI. But this will still be packaged into the total anti-Muslim hate crime stats to bulk them up.

Remember these are peaceful protesters who aren’t against the police, but just want more accountability. At least that’s what the media began telling us after two cops got shot.

Meanwhile here’s the real face of the violently racist #BlackLivesMatters crowd.

This is why the police turned their backs on De Blasio. You can’t pander to violent bigots like this and then come out and give a eulogy over the bodies of their victims.

The most important part of the Sony story was never the identity of the hackers. It was how Sony, the media and major theater chains reacted.

If it turns out that the Sony hack was carried out by North Korea, Joe Biden in an Ambien daze, Koko the gorilla or a bored Sony employee, that will be significant to investigators, but it won’t change how major corporations allowed themselves to be bullied into pulling a movie from theaters based on some leaked emails and empty threats.

This isn’t a whodunit. It’s a whydidtheyreacthatway.

The Sony hack consisted of a typical media cycle in which the media first blew up a scandal, sourcing controversial material from the emails from clickhole sites like Buzzfeed and Gawker, taking private information that was illegally hacked and using it to accuse Sony execs of racism. This was behavior just as illegitimate as reprinting private celebrity photos in a previous Hollywood hack.

Once the mission had been accomplished, the media pivoted to calling Sony cowards for pulling The Interview and cheered its release.

This is a typical media scam in which the media creates a scandal and then creates a backlash to the scandal reporting.

But Sony did indeed allow itself to be bullied by a combination of viral stories and hacker threats. So did major theaters who are part of the ironically named NATO.

Paramount cut off attempts to screen Team America World Police.

The larger problem is that this was the tip of the iceberg. China had already bullied Hollywood into favorable portrayal in movies. North Korea was the only remaining safe enemy. Now that’s done too.

Hollywood acts tough when it comes to bashing America, but it’s afraid to take on any actual enemy nations. That’s what the Sony hack showed yet again.

America is less racially divided than ever. The economy is doing great. Unemployment is over. And we’re going to the moon. Any day now.

NPR released quote excerpts of an interview set to air on “Morning Edition” starting Monday, including one in which host Steve Inskeep asked if the country is more racially divided now compared to when Obama took office six years ago.

“No,” the president answered. “I actually think that it’s probably in its day-to-day interactions less racially divided.”

Polls show otherwise, but Obama trumps facts, polls and even the laws of physicists. Anyone who disagree is racist.

But Obama does face a paradox. His protectors have to blame racism for all the disagreement and criticism. But then Obama can’t actually concede that the country now polls more racially divided, so he instead has to claim that despite all the racism, it’s less racist than ever.

It’s kind of like how the Communists always insisted that things were getting and worse at the same time.

Obama whipped up racism for voter turnout. His administration has spent more time race baiting than doing just about anything else. It’s why the country polls as so racially divided. His Attorney General mocks Americans as a nation of cowards on race. But Obama has to avoid taking the blame by claiming that things are getting better while hedging on daily interactions so that his DOJ is still free to run its racist witch hunts.

The official paper of treason never rests.

Even by New York Times standards, Rukmini Callimachi’s article, “The Cost of the U.S. Ban on Paying for Hostages” is a mess, stumbling as it tries to somehow sell its completely unacceptable agenda.

Instead of coming right out and saying, “The US should pay ransom money to terrorists”, Rukmini dances around by claiming that the FBI and State Department didn’t pay much attention to information about hostage locations. This may or may not be true, but it’s irrelevant to his thesis.

It takes pages until the rotten thesis at the heart of the piece is reached.

Relatives of the victims, as well as retired law enforcement officials who oversaw hostage negotiations under previous administrations, say the post-9/11 policy has meant not just that the government will not pay cash to kidnappers, but that it will not participate in any negotiations. Critics argue that this runs counter to longstanding instructions in the F.B.I.’s operations manual, which provides guidance on how agents can help families pay private ransoms.

They say, moreover, that the way the policy is currently applied is at odds with a classified 2002 presidential directive that allows the government to pay ransoms in special cases, so long as the money is used as a lure to catch the perpetrators, according to two officials who were involved in drafting the order.

1. Conventional kidnappers are not enemy forces at war with the United States. Paying the money will not finance the next 9/11

2. The ransoms are paid in cases where it can be used to catch the terrorists

Retired officials with decades of experience in hostage negotiations said there were a number of tools short of paying ransoms that Washington could have tried. For example, officials could have asked a third country to intervene, a role that Qatar often plays, or used diplomatic channels to push for an exchange of prisoners held elsewhere. France successfully persuaded Mali this month to free four members of Al Qaeda’s North African branch in return for the French hostage Serge Lazarevic.

Pressing another country to release Al Qaeda terrorists is the equivalent of us releasing Al Qaeda terrorists. The only difference is plausible deniability.

Another possibility would have been to allow the hostages’ families to pay ransoms themselves, as was the norm through the early 2000s, according to two former F.B.I. officials. Instead, the family members of the four Americans say they were told they could be prosecuted if they paid.

Paying ransoms to terrorists endangers Americans by making them an even bigger kidnapping targets and finances terrorist operations.

You’re not allowed to send money to terrorists for really obvious reasons, no matter what the justification is.

The New York Times fails to acknowledge this obvious problem. Instead it continues acting as if the US is being irrationally stubborn by refusing to help fund terrorists.

Soon after the failed American raid in July, one fighter said, the Islamic State sent an envoy named Sheikh Abdullah al-Jarrah al-Nasir to Gaziantep over the summer with a letter authorizing him to negotiate on behalf of the group. The rebel, who asked not to be named, brought the sheikh here to see an American intelligence official whom he knew only as Darren. He said he was not sure if this was the official’s real name.

“I met Darren, and he came out, but he refused to meet Sheikh Abdullah,” the fighter said. “I told him, ‘The sheikh is here to negotiate.’ Darren blamed me and said, ‘We don’t meet with terrorists.’ I told him, ‘If you don’t meet with ISIS and deal with them as a state, this will end very badly.’ ”

The mistake here was letting the Sheikh leave.

The funeral for slain NYPD officer Rafael Ramos was big because it drew police officers from around the country who feel threatened and endangered by the endorsement of the racist Brown/Garner mobs by progressive politicians like Obama and De Blasio.

And for the same reason it attracted high ranking liberal politicians from Governor Andrew Cuomo to Joe Biden looking to wash off some of the blood from their political movement.

While some police officers applauded Commission Bratton, Biden and Cuomo, they weren’t willing to accept belated pandering from the man who had most directly put them in danger.

Officers outside chatted and generally ignored the eulogy until de Blasio began to speak in Spanish, which prompted snickers.

After the funeral, about a hundred police officers, firefighters and others who had stood vigil for Ramos made their way to Teedee’s Tavern, about two blocks from the church.

A firefighter hopped up onto at table, beer in one hand, and a camera in the other, taking pictures of the packed bar.

“Here’s to Ramos! Here’s to the NYPD!” he shouted, to the cheers of those assembled.

“And f- -k deB lasio!” he added, raising a raucous response from the crowd.

A block from the church, though, retired NYPD Officer John Mangan held a sign that read: “God Bless the NYPD. Dump de Blasio.”

The execution of Ramos and Liu as they sat in their patrol car in Brooklyn sparked a tidal wave of anger toward the mayor from the city’s cops, who turned their backs to him as he walked through a hospital corridor last Saturday night after visiting the officers’ grieving families.

Earlier that night, when de Blasio approached a group of NYPD’s Finest and said, “We’re all in this together,” a stone-faced officer replied, “No, we’re not.”

Things got so heated in the weeks leading up to the killings of Ramos and Liu, the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association’s demanded that de Blasio stay away from the funerals of officers cut down in the line of duty — a request the mayor did not oblige.

Here’s some more on what went on from John Cardillo

Reverend Jeremiah Wright's protege hasn't changed a bit

The more Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s protege claims he’s changed, the more he stays the same.

President Barack Obama is not expected to go to church during Christmas. The president rarely attends worship services, preferring to read scripture and pray in private, according to Politico.

Those familiar with his Christian faith say he does not go to church regularly partly because he does not want to disrupt the experiences of regular parishioners and that the Obama family prefers to use Sundays to bond and for downtime.

Obama has no problem constantly disrupting people’s “experiences” by attending fundraisers or to get a shot for a donor card using Air Force One. So that excuse is laughable. But his religion is his own business. However…

Instead, Obama turns to several progressive and activist theologians for spiritual succor. These include DuBois, a Pentecostal minister as well as pastors Joel Hunter, Jim Wallis, and 90 year-old Joseph Lowery, founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, according to Politico.

The president reads daily devotionals sent via email by this spiritual circle.

What kind of “devotionals” might he be getting from progressive activists like Lowery? The Wright kind.

All white people are going to hell, longtime African-American civil rights advocate Rev. Joseph Lowery told an audience at a get-out-the-vote event held Oct. 27 in Georgia.

Lowery, who gave the benediction at the January 2009 inauguration of President Barack Obama, told the audience of up to 300 African-Americans “that when he was a young militant, he used to say all white folks were going to hell. Then he mellowed and just said most of them were. Now, he said, he is back to where he was,” according to an Oct. 31 report in the Monroe County Reporter newspaper.

“I don’t know what kind of a n—– wouldn’t vote with a black man running,” Lowery also told the audience in the St. James Baptist Church in Forsyth, Ga., according to the Reporter.

If the favorite pastor of a Republican had expressed similar sentiments toward black people, you know that the noise would never have died out. But progs get special treatment and Lowery’s statement was dismissed as a joke. Obama’s continuing patronage of a man who made such a vile statement got swept under the rug just as it did for many of Obama’s racist clergy.

ISIS really is bringing back the old Islamic way of life. There on the right is the undrinkable water. On the left are beheadings. Next to you are the piles of garbage. And its friendly murderous inhabitants all have hepatitis.

It’s just like the Islamic paradise, crawling with suicide bombers and rivers of all sorts of things you don’t want to step in.

In the Iraqi city of Mosul, the water has become undrinkable because supplies of chlorine have dried up, said a journalist living there, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to protect his safety. Hepatitis is spreading, and flour is becoming scarce, he said. “Life in the city is nearly dead, and it is as though we are living in a giant prison,” he said.

That’s Islam. A giant prison that hates human life.

A trumpeted Islamic State currency has not materialized, nor have the passports the group promised. Schools barely function, doctors are few, and disease is on the rise.

So Islamic states work about as well as Communism. Let’s hope Obama can reach out to the Caliph and end this embargo.

In the Syrian city of Raqqa, the group’s self-styled capital, water and electricity are available for no more than three or four hours a day, garbage piles up uncollected, and the city’s poor scavenge for scraps on streets crowded with sellers hawking anything they can find, residents say.

Three, four hours is more electricity than Mohammed had. If ISIS truly is sincere, it will get rid of all the electricity as an innovation.

When electricity workers raced to repair cables damaged by government shelling in the town of Deir al-Zour, the Islamic State detained and lashed them for violating a prohibition on working during prayer time, said the Deir al-Zour activist.

That’s a start.

Videos filmed in secret by an activist group show desperate women and children clamoring for handouts of food, while photographs posted on the Internet portray foreign militants eating lavish spreads

Much like the early days of the USSR. The Communists just shot the women and children with the approval of Western liberals who also visited and chowed down on the lavish spreads while orphans were being shot.

Maybe ISIS will be more merciful to the beggar children than leftists were.

There is no indication that the Islamic State’s income, estimated at $12 million a month, is suffering. Syrians continue to sign up because there are no other jobs available, residents say.

Just like leftist governments everywhere.

It's about the perception that the United States is weak

Anti-Embargoists like Obama and Rand Paul keep making the argument that the “embargo hasn’t worked”. By working they mean that it hasn’t forced the Castros out of power.

That argument is a loosely stuffed strawman. The embargo on its own wasn’t going to force the Castros out of power. It was helping to maintain conditions in which they could be forced out of power. And to weaken their ability to do regional and international harm.

The distinction between the two is as important as the difference between a serial killer in jail and a serial killer on your block. Even with the embargo, Castro managed to wedge his way into multiple wars and to harm American allies.

But let’s set aside the debate over the embargo for a moment. “What good has the embargo done” is the new “Where are the WMDs”. It’s a smug one liner used by people who don’t really want an answer.

The embargo isn’t just about the embargo. It’s also about Raul Castro declaring, “We won the war”.

It’s about the perception that the United States is weak, that it willingly cuts any deal with the enemy on any terms and is grateful to even be allowed to surrender to them.

That’s the perception that Carter created. That’s the perception that Obama creates by running around and bowing to every tyrant he can find.

You can’t fix that perception by overcompensating and then bombing someone. It doesn’t work. Everyone knows that America has lots of bombs. The question that our enemies and assorted neutral parties and allies ask is, does it have strong leaders to make the decisions.

When Obama gives Castro everything he wants on a silver platter in exchange for a few prisoners, he isn’t showing strength. He’s being Carter. The same deal could have been made while camouflaging the prisoner exchange, but that would have taken away Obama’s political cover. So instead he chose to look weak abroad to look better at home.

Even if the embargo had to end, the terms on which it ended were at least as important as the embargo because they showed our measure. There’s a big difference between withdrawing and taking the last helicopter out, between cutting an unpleasant deal and making a deal so bad that your enemy announces that he beat you after the deal is made because he knows that you are too weak to do anything about it.

Attorney General Eric Holder

This isn't about respect. It's about doing the right thing.

In an interview, Attorney General Eric Holder is once again complaining that, like Rodney Dangerfield, he can’t get any respect.

I would hope that my successor would not have to endure some of the things that I did. And I say “endure” only because I think I’ve shown respect where, perhaps, I haven’t been given any.

The question is why does Holder believe that he’s particularly entitled to respect?

We’ve been hearing this line from Obama and his cronies for a while now. People are disrespecting Obama by not calling him president (but calling Bush, Bush, was just fine).

The issue isn’t respect. It’s the law.

You aren’t entitled to respect commensurate with your position. That’s how it works in feudal societies. The respect you are entitled to is based on how you comport yourself in that position.

When you disrespect the entire nation by calling it a “nation of cowards” then why should you expect to exchange disrespect for respect?

But respect or disrespect isn’t the point. What Holder calls disrespect mainly consists of attempts to hold him accountable for blatantly violating the law and obstructing justice.

Holder considers that disrespectful.

And that’s the problem here. This isn’t about respect. It’s about doing the right thing.

You can’t hijack the government, violate the law, lie about it, obstruct justice, get people killed and then complain that you aren’t getting enough respect.

Respect is a form. If everything else is in working order, it’s there. If isn’t, then there’s no place for respect either.

The European Union remains focused on the things that really matter

While the world is melting down, the European Union remains focused on the things that really matter, bashing Israel and announcing the need for special parking spaces for fat people.

Because this is what a lefty utopia looks like. Two stabbings and an endless bureaucracy.

Being fat is a disability, EU judges have ruled, meaning that companies in Europe must offer obese staff bigger chairs, special parking spaces and a lighter work load.

British employers will have to bear the costs of litigation and of finding ways to ensure that overweight workers are not placed at any disadvantage.

Lawyers have described the ruling as a “real problem” for businesses because EU judges did not define at what level of clinical or severe obesity a worker could be classed as disabled.

I’m sure the lawyers and judges and activists will be happy to work it out for all the billable hours there are.

This is what an Obama Christmas looks like.

Throw in some community organizer golfing, pointless regulating and Farrakhan caroling, this is what an Obama Christmas looks like.

The Obama administration spent Christmas week trying to get two Islamist organizations off a foreign country’s terror list.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations and the Muslim American Society are both listed as Islamist organizations by the Islamist Money In Politics database, which tracks copious political spending by figures linked to the groups. The Muslim American Society was founded as an American-based Muslim Brotherhood front group.

CAIR and MAS representatives met with “senior U.S. government officials” just days before Christmas to discuss the groups’ inclusion on the United Arab Emirates’ official list of terrorist organizations.

In other news, the UAE is currently taking a harder line on Islamic terrorism than Obama. So is Egypt.

“The two American Muslim organizations and the U.S. government pledged to work together to achieve a positive solution to the UAE designations,” the groups said in a joint statement.

A positive resolution would involve cracking down on terrorist front groups instead of pressuring other countries to go easy on them.

The Obama administration’s State Department recently “affirmed that department officials meet regularly with representatives of CAIR and MAS,” according to the groups.

Now you know what’s wrong with our foreign policy.

Bill de Blasio lookalike Matthew Reardon wasn’t too happy when the cops came calling for him.

Police say Matthew Reardon, 29, wrote on Facebook, “Don’t wanna get clipped while sitting in your squad car??
Reardon screamed “mommy” and expletives as he stood in the street before his arrest, the complaint said.

Reardon is the drummer for Kiirstin Marilyn, a trip hop performer who claims to be a “performer, singer, songwriter, rocker, wannabe vegan, tree hugger, animal lover, New Yorker”.

KM however has already disavowed Reardon on her Facebook page and responded positively to comments from police officers and their families.

Matt Reardon’s words do not represent Kiirstin Marilyn the band nor Kiirstin Marilyn the person. I am absolutely appalled by his words and actions and extremely upset by the pain it has caused. I am very hurt by the crime committed against these officers that did not deserve to die. I do not condone violence in any way and I do not condone the perpetuation of violence therefore, I have removed Matt from my lineup and he will no longer be performing with me. He will no longer be involved with my project or my music career.

Maybe Reardon can get a solo project off the ground. He could always do a Straight Outta Compton cover. Or maybe Straight Outta Jersey.

"We no longer have confidence in Mayor deBlasio, nor in his ability to lead New York City"

While Bill de Blasio has been trying to pretend that his endorsement of racist anti-police protesters had nothing to do with the murder of two NYPD police officers by one of the protesters, the police know better.

John Cardillo has this photo of a sky banner being flown referencing the moment when police at the hospital turned their backs to De Blasio during his visit. And a statement from an unofficial coalition of NYPD people.

“As a large and unified group of current and retired NYC Police Officers, Detectives, & Supervisors, we are outraged by the mayor’s incendiary rhetoric, and for facilitating the current hostile climate towards the NYPD. We understand that the department and even our own unions can only go so far in their public condemnation of the mayor as to not irreparably damage the working relationship with the city, or future contract negotiations.

It is our opinion that Mayor deBlasio’s dangerous and irresponsible comments about his and his wife’s concern for their son’s safety at the hands of the NYPD fueled the flames that led to civil unrest, and potentially to the deaths of PO Wenjian Liu and PO Rafael Ramos, as well as the continued threats against NYPD personnel. The Mayor shows us no respect, and encourages the public to follow his lead.

Mayor deBlasio clearly doesn’t understand nor care that every man and woman of the NYPD would give their life to protect his son, his family, and every other resident of New York City. Tragically, two of our Finest made that ultimate sacrifice days before Christmas.

We no longer have confidence in Mayor deBlasio, nor in his ability to lead New York City and promote the values that both the NYPD and the good law abiding citizens of the city hold dear. Mayor deBlasio turned his back on us long before we turned our backs on him. “

That’s an important point that needs to be made. The media has been portraying the police response out of context, trying to isolate Pat Lynch, and accuse the police of “politicking” the killings. (No such accusation was made when they were politicizing Garner’s death.)

This didn’t begin with police rhetoric. It began with the rhetoric and policies of Bill de Blasio and his associates.

When you blew over a billion dollars on a website that didn’t work, maybe complaining about spending over a tenth of that trying to bail out a non-profit company is loose change.

But the cascading wave of failures rippling through ObamaCare shows how deeply broken the whole model is.

An Obamacare-created and taxpayer-funded insurance company in Iowa has been taken over by the state due to a financial crisis.

That’s the great cycle of government, from crony capitalism to Socialism.

After just beginning to offer plans in 2013, the company’s already insolvent and has now been taken over by the state of Iowa, insurance commissioner Nick Gerhart announced Wednesday. CoOpportunity doesn’t have enough cash on hand to be sure it can pay claims for its 120,000 customers, if necessary. The company has only $17 million in cash and assets, Gerhart said.

The federal government’s Obamacare administrator the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services initially gave CoOportunity a $112 million loan award in Feb. 2012, but doled out an additional $32.7 million emergency award to keep the company solvent in September of this year.

But CO did have a business plan. Getting the government to give them your money. Their backup business plan? Getting the government to give them even more of your money.

CoOpportunity’s management expected to receive more federal money than they did, putting them in continuing financial peril.

Their business plan was more federal money. Literally. That’s what we’ve come down to.

They say that the Saudis aren’t serious about fighting terrorism, but once again the Kingdom shows its commitment to standing on the front lines against the lethal Jihad of… women driving cars.

Two Saudi women detained for nearly a month after they defied edicts that prohibit women from driving were referred on Thursday to a court established to try terrorism cases, several people close to the defendants said.

The Specialized Criminal Court, to which their cases were referred, was established in the capital, Riyadh, to try terrorism cases but has also tried and given long prison sentences to a number of human rights workers, peaceful dissidents, activists and critics of the government.

Well it’s not like there are any terrorists for them to try. The terrorists are just sent to “rehab” where they live a posh lifestyle and listen to Islamic lectures before being described rehabilitated.

But now those women drivers are dangerous.

Here’s what one young woman discovered when trying to talk to CNN bigwigs about bias.

Hayley Nagelberg, a high school senior from West Orange, NJ, has revealed that a top CNN executive asked her if she was “brain dead” following a question-and-answer session in Atlanta, where the news broadcaster is based, earlier this week.

The meeting was with Richard Davis, the Executive Vice President of News Standards and Practices for CNN

During an animated conversation about CNN’s “abysmal” coverage of last month’s terrorist atrocity at a synagogue in the Har Nof neighborhood of Jerusalem, in which four worshippers and a Druze policeman were brutally murdered, Davis was asked to explain why the broadcaster initially identified the synagogue as a “mosque.”

“To expound on how the words ‘mosque’ and ‘synagogue’ could have been swapped, Davis gave an even more infuriating response,” said Nagelberg. “Apparently, in the room where the headlines were written, there was some conversation taking place regarding a mosque in Damascus. ‘Haven’t you ever written something you heard instead of what you meant to write?’ he asked.”

I wanted to know why CNN, when releasing the headlines at issue, couldn’t call it a terrorist attack. Davis explained that they would never jump to a conclusion that anything is a terrorist attack. “Okay”, I said, fully understanding the weight that the word “terrorist” carries. “But by the time it was known that it was four Israelis and two Palestinians, it was known that there were meat cleavers and stabbings involved. Why couldn’t you call it an ‘attack’?” I continued. His response? “You’ve got to be kidding me? One word? Are you brain dead?”

To summarize, CNN’s VP of News Standards and Practices explained that his staff is too stupid to check what it’s typing into the chyron while carrying on a conversation and thinks that anyone who asks basic questions is an idiot.

CNN, yes it’s exactly as dysfunctional as you think. And there’s a reason it’s in last place.

As we sit here in our homes with our families and loved ones around us, tens of thousands of children wonder if their parents will come home tonight.

Their fathers and mothers aren’t stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan. They’re on duty in places like Englewood in Chicago where there are 2 violent crimes for every 1,000 people in one month, Columbus Square in St. Louis or Bedford-Stuyvesant in New York City where two police officers were just murdered.

The men and women of law enforcement are on the front lines of the war at home. From the mugger on the block to the terrorist on the hijacked plane, they are the first ones there.

41 law enforcement officers were shot and killed in 2014. That’s in line with the number of Americans killed by hostile fire in Afghanistan. There’s a reason that Chicago has been nicknamed Chiraq. Some parts of the country are a war zone and after the latest shooting of two police officers in New York City, a statement circulating among cops states that the NYPD has become a “wartime police department.”

The war at home has been going on for a long time and by some accounts has claimed the lives of 20,000 law enforcement officers. Since 2001, more than 700 officers have been killed by gunfire. During the Gulf War, more officers were killed on the streets of American cities than in combat against Saddam.

Even as the murders of NYPD cops Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu fill the news, Officer Charlie Kondek has been shot while pursuing a suspect in Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Officer Kondek had been a former member of the NYPD. He leaves behind five children. His killer, Marco Antonio Parilla Jr, had been repeatedly arrested for the possession and sale of cocaine before being released just this August. Officer Kondek and his children paid the ultimate price for his release.

All three police officers were casualties in the war against human evil that never ends. It’s an even dirtier and more unglamorous war than Iraq or Afghanistan. And police officers are hated in a way that it’s still socially unacceptable to hate soldiers. Ramos and Liu were the latest casualties of that hatred.

The police officer is the handyman of the welfare state. His job is to put his life on the line to plug the social leaks that the sociologists, consultants and social planners who made this mess had not foreseen. It’s his job to be there for a domestic violence complaint in a Florida motel at two in the morning or a failure of multiculturalism between two warring gangs in Oakland. He goes to places that the politicians don’t like to think about and deals with issues that the welfare state created and walked away from.

Progressives don’t believe in evil. It’s the beat cop who has to believe in it and clean it up.

The planners and politicians who allocate funds for new housing projects don’t have to patrol them at night. They don’t have to walk down a narrow concrete block hallway lined with dirty doors any of which can open at any minute with a gun behind it. The drug sentencing reformers have never had to carry a deranged screaming figure through the rusting doors of an emergency room. They have never had to get their soft shoes dirty walking through puddles of blood in an alleyway.

When liberalism fails, it’s the cop who gets the call. And when he does get the call, it’s the liberals who will be the first to call for his head.

It’s not enough that the cop has to clean up for the welfare state. He also has to be its scapegoat.

The chants of “Black lives matter” aren’t aimed at the gangs and drug dealers who rack up an astronomical number of black deaths; it’s aimed at the cops who put their lives on the line saving black lives. It’s the very people whose messes they clean up who hate them the most.

The police officer has come to embody America, abroad and at home, the nation that risks its lives to free peoples only to be despised for it, the nation that extends every benefit and privilege to its own criminals only to be shot and stabbed, raped and robbed for its endless generosity.

The American police officer was never supposed to be venturing into neighborhoods where no one speaks English and the locals see him as a member of an occupying army or patrolling in communities where gang members number in the thousands and could take down the entire local police force.

He was never supposed to be a social worker, a mediator, a medic and the commander of an invading army negotiating truces and treaties with the local tribes. And yet he is expected to be all these things and more. Every time he goes out he knows that he may face a choice between his life and his career.

If cops seem touchy, isolated or out of control it’s because they have been left hanging by a system that uses them to dam up the breakdown of a society without ever acknowledging that this is their job. Many urban police officers operate in environments where crime is not an aberration, but the norm. Like the American soldier, the police officer is better trained and more effective than ever before, but like the soldier he is also haunted by the sense that his work and his sacrifices are futile and unappreciated.

The police officer isn’t spending years in Iraq or Afghanistan; he’s spending decades in Chiraq. When his time ends, there will be no victory parades. Just the knowledge that he tried to make a difference and that unlike many brother officers, at least he made it to retirement.

Officer Daryl Pierson was shot and killed leaving behind a wife and two young children. Pierson had been an experienced officer. His killer, Thomas Johnson III, had been paroled after serving three years for an attempted armed robbery.

Officer Justin Winebrenner tried to get Kenan Ivery to leave a bar. Ivery drew a gun and shot and killed him. Officer Winebrenner was a second generation police officer. He left behind a 4-year-old daughter.

Officer Perry Renn responded to shots being fired and encountered Major Davis Jr. who was carrying a semi-automatic rifle. Davis Jr. had an extensive criminal record. He fired killing Officer Renn who had survived twenty-two years on the force.

Patrolman Jeffery Westerfield responded to a fight between Carl Le’Ellis Blount Jr. and his girlfriend. He never even got a chance to draw his gun or leave his squad car before Blount shot him in the head.

Deputy Sheriff Allen Bares was off duty when he saw a gold Lexus crash into a ditch. He approached the vehicle and was shot and killed. The two men inside, Quintylan Richard and Baylon Taylor, stole his truck and took off.

The police officers in all these cases were white. Their killers were black. But the police officers in many of these cases were trying to protect black people and black communities.

The killings all took place in a matter of months in 2014. And their numbers will only continue to grow.

While the wars abroad expand or contract, this is the war that will go on. Its soldiers will serve their tours of duty for decades on the streets of our own cities without having anywhere else to go home to. And when their time is up, they will never receive the thanks that they deserve because most of us will never understand the difference that they made.

When the left took over, it was the police officer who kept everything from going under in our major cities. It was not the politician or the planner, the sociologist or the social worker who kept the crime and chaos from sweeping everything away. It was the man in blue who did what had to be done.

Under Obama, when the criminal is king and the progressive planners are changing the country in ways unprecedented since the seventies, it’s still the lonely figure in the squad car that does his duty and holds the line in a thousand dark and dirty neighborhoods where gunshots and screams sound in the night. The American police officer has become the soldier of civilization fighting to keep it alive.

And somewhere a family wonders if their father or mother will come home tonight.
