Former Pink Floyd lead singer Roger Waters calls for boycott of Israel. The British musician, who played last in Israel in 2005, toured Jerusalem and Bethlehem and scrawled graffiti on the security barrier that has prevented suicide attacks in Israel since being built. He now is in favor of a cultural boycott of Israel due to the “abhorrent and draconian control that Israel wields of the besieged Palestinians in Gaza…”.

Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi is trying to use Israel to help prop up his beleaguered regime. As international pressure mounts, Gaddafi is claiming his right to violently suppress the uprising against his rule is based on Israel’s right to fight against the Palestinians in Gaza.

Pro-Arab hecklers at Belfast’s Queen’s University threatened Israeli speaker, who had to be rescued by security as his taxi was attacked. A member of the Knesset’s legal department, invited to speak by the law students of the University, was forced to abandon his lecture after Palestinian and Sinn Fein protesters shouted him down. He had to be escorted out by security, the taxi he was in was then attacked by the mob, trying to break the windows.

Thousands of Jewish texts, thought lost during World War II are surfacing in New York. The books, part of a collection in the field of the Science of Judaism, were thought lost, but many were donated to the Leo Baeck Institute where they have been sitting unknown for years.

Jewish student files suit against UC Berkeley over assault by Muslim. The lawsuit claims that the University violated her civil rights when it did not protect her from the attack. The student, who was holding a sign stating Israel Wants Peace, was rammed by a cart pushed by the head of Berkeley’s Students for Justice in Palestine. The suit claims that “physical intimidation and violence were frequently employed as a tactic by SJP and other campus groups in an effort to silence students on campus who support Israel.” SJP is financially supported by the University.

It seems that the Turkish don’t consider China, North Korea, Sudan, Zimbabwe and pretty much every other country in the Middle East when making their lists. While Libya, Egypt and Oman are cracking down on anti-government protesters Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, speaking before leaving to a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council, has said Israel is at the “very top of the list” of human rights violators.

As anti-Israel activists prepare to start a seven-day protest called Israel Apartheid week, a strange ally comes to the rescue. The venue that will be hosting the “Party to End Apartheid” is an LGBT community center, but a purveyor of porn has stepped up to stop it. Michael Lucas, arguing that Israel is the only country in the Mideast where it isn’t a capital offense to be openly homosexual finds it problematic that the building is hosting a group bent on the delegitimization of Israel.

Israeli singer becomes the star of the Libyan protests. Tel Aviv based musician Noy Alooshe took some lines from Muammar Gaddafi’s rambling hostile speech, auto tuned them and put it to a hip hop beat. Now it has gone viral…in Libya of all places.

British fashion designer explodes in anti-Semitic rage at art historian. John Galliano allegedly accosted Geraldine Bloch and called her an ugly, disgusting whore with a dirty Jew face. Galliano was arrested and suspended from his job as chief designer for Christian Dior.

Jewish leaders in Manchester, England worried that children in the community are growing up hating Israel due to media bias. With the news continuing to call Israel an occupier and regional superpower as well as human rights abuser; some kids don’t see a way to defend Israel, and even go as far to question its right to exist.

CBS Reporter Lara Logan was sexually assaulted by a mob while reporting in Cairo. The experienced field reporter for CBS was separated from the rest of her crew and surrounded by a mob of 200 before being attacked by thugs shouting “Jew! Jew!” She had previously been detained with her crew by the Egyptian military.

Do members of French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s party have a problem with anti-Semitism? In attacking potential rival Dominique Strauss-Khan, members of the party trotted out the old canard of accusing him of not being truly representative of his home.

Israeli troops may need to re-enter Lebanon. Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who led the withdrawal from Lebanon in 2000, stated that the IDF might need to return to the country to make sure Hizbullah remembers the lessons of the 2006 war.

Israel has been easing restrictions on the transfer of goods to the Gaza Strip. The main victims are Hamas smugglers. In response, the terrorist group, which controls the area, has started cracking down on Israeli merchandise.

After the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks have broken down, the EU is putting pressure on Israel to start them back up. Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has told Catherine Ashton, his European counterpart, that there is no chance of progress without a resolution to the Iran nuclear issue.

The main reason is that the artwork, belonging to Baron Mor Lipot Herzog, was covered in a 1973 compensation agreement.

After terror warnings, Israel has taken preventive measures by closing a number of embassies. The closings come as the anniversary of the killing of Hezbollah commander Imad Mughniyeh approaches. The specific embassies weren’t mentioned, but a travel advisory has been sent out to Israelis and Jews of increased threats in Egypt, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Ivory Cost, Mali, Mauritania and Venezuela.

Protesters chanting in support of Palestinians shut down a talk by an Israeli diplomat in Scotland. The Jewish Society of Edinburgh University had been hosting a talk by Ishmael Khaldi, advisor to Israel’s foreign minister after the university’s international relations society declined to host him, claiming that doing so would be at the expense of millions of Palestinians suffering under apartheid.

Jamel, Germany, has been taken over by neo-Nazis. Residents have parties singing “Hitler is my Fuehrer,” signs pointing to the birthplace of Hitler and other symbols filled this small East German town. Granted, there are only 28 adults living in the town, but 10 are considered right-wing extremists.

Cyber-war heats up as Israel and Gaza trade fire. Hamas-connected hackers took down the site of the Jewish People Policy Institute, replacing its front page with a picture of a child attacking an Israeli tank. The attack also deleted other posts.

State police have issued a permit for the group to congregate in front of the New Jersey Statehouse on April 16. The group claims to be battling corruption but sometimes appears in Nazi-style uniforms and swastikas.

GOP leaders start to make the rounds in Israel. Former Governor Mike Huckabee has been spending the last week making news with statements about Israel’s right to settle the entire country and move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. Next up is Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, possible candidate for president in 2012, who will be visiting the region as a guest of the Republican Jewish Coalition.

London has more recorded incidents of anti-Semitism than any other place in England. Though there was a significant drop from 2009, there were 219 reported incidents there.

William Henry Hechler, the first modern Christian Zionist, was memorialized today. At a ceremony attended by Jewish and Israeli notables, this friend and supporter of Theodore Herzl was remembered.

Several journalists and a tour guide were returned to Israel after intervention by the Israeli foreign minister, but an engineer who was arrested in Suez remains in detention.

Former U.S. president is sued in a $5 million class-action. Several readers of Jimmy Carter’s book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid have claimed that it deceives the public and violates consumer protection laws.

Israel has been helping President Hosni Mubarak’s embattled regime. In abrogation of the ’79 Camp David accords, Egyptian troops have been allowed into the Sinai Peninsula. Two battalions have moved in to the demilitarized area to deal with protesters in the area.

More rockets fall from Gaza near Israeli towns in the Negev. Both Ofakim and Netivot saw Grad rocket hits, causing some property damage and sending several people to the hospital to be treated for shock.

There might be a retrial in the cards for Cisco in a patent case. Seems an Israeli investor bought a failing start-up for a song and then Cisco infringed on one of its patents. During the trial in Texas, the Cisco lawyer made anti-Semitic comments, compared the whole thing to the trial of Jesus and complained that the plaintiff is a greedy Israeli Jew. Cisco still was out $3.7 million, but the plaintiff felt the defense’s prejudicial comments reduced the size of the award.

Israel is expanding security agreements with Germany. Visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel signed agreements on a range of issues including national security, agriculture, environmental issues and others.

Nazi Collaborator John Kalymon is has been given a deportation order by Detroit judge. Kalymon was stripped of citizenship three years ago for shooting and killing Jews during roundups in the Ukraine. Though it’s not clear if any country will accept him.

Some strange bedfellows are ready for some football. A team in the Israeli Football League is made up of players from Ramallah as well as residents of communities in Judea and Samaria. They recently played a team quarterbacked by the son of Israel’s Army chief of staff.

< style='padding:20px;' border=0>

It was only a matter of time before someone in the mainstream media–watching helplessly as their hero president was caught unprepared and unready for the uprising in Egypt (to the point where he reportedly invited former Bush administration officials to the White House to explain it to him)–attempted to let President Obama off the hook by blaming Israel.

Leave it to the ridiculous Chuck Spinney and his platform over at The Atlantic. James Fallows’ introduction of Spinney made it clear we were in for trouble: “In the thirty-plus years that I’ve known him, I’ve never heard a partisan statement out of Chuck… This is for context about one of the most detached and relentlessly logical observers I have known.”

When you have to badger the reader with pleas and assurances that the writer is Mr. Nonpartisan, it pretty much tells you you’re about to hear some wacky stuff. And Spinney doesn’t disappoint. His meandering argument (such as it is) takes the position that Obama’s speech in Cairo in 2009 inspired Muslims in the Middle East to desire and demand Change They Could Believe In. When Obama failed to get the Jews kicked out of their homes (what Spinney calls “his spectacular failure to rein in the illegal Israeli settlements” and when “Israel just humiliated President Obama by scuppering his belated attempts to revive the peace process”), the Arabs exploded. So Obama gets credit for inspiring his audience but is thwarted by the nefarious Israelis from making good on his promise.

What’s more, Spinney says, Obama’s promise in Cairo was a continuation of his campaign for the presidency, which also “electrified” the Arabs (and Turks), which Spinney discovered now that he’s living “on a sailboat in the Mediterranean for nine months out of each year”:

“In fact, the impression he created boggled my mind. Once in a small shop in Syria, for example, a man of about 20, asked me in French, Syria’s second language, if I was French or English. I responded, pointing to my chest, saying slowly, ‘Aameerikaa.’ He broke into a huge grin, put his arm around me, and started chanting ‘Obama, Obama, Obama,’ while pumping a ‘thumbs up’ with his other hand, ending with a ‘high five’…

To be sure, I am only one guy, but I can say without exaggeration, this kind of enthusiasm was exhibited by at least ninety per cent of the people I saw (Israel excepted).”

The famous “linkage” theory, in which everything that happens in the Middle East is Israel’s fault for not giving up their land to the Palestinians, has been debunked by even those on the left. So to say that the Arab revolts were caused by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is just the latest robotic response by those unmoved by logic and unvisited by the spark of an original thought. Spinney’s theory, remember, comes from his experience receiving a few thumbs-up for Obama while sailing around Syria grinning vapidly at passersby with whom he could not communicate verbally.

The most telling phrase in Spinney’s sophist symphony, however, is the parenthetical “Israel excepted.” Everyone was enthusiastic about Obama except Israelis, he says, which means the Israeli dissenters differed from the Arab high-fivers in two significant ways: They spoke English, meaning they could actually follow news and reports about Obama straight from the source, and they are committed to democratic pluralism and Western values.

This is of marginal, if any, importance to Spinney. What he found in Obama was exactly what the Syrians and Turks thought they found in Obama: A bully who shared their lack of affinity for Israeli civil rights and would simply force people to do what he wanted. In other words, someone who behaved like a dictator.

And who would be the beneficiary of this reorganization of other people’s property? Mahmoud Abbas–an Arab dictator.

And thus we have the unraveling of one of the looniest explanations for the Arab revolts of the last month. According to Spinney, the Arabs threw off the yolk of their dictators because they were inspired by Obama to side with dictatorial policies that would further empower the region’s dictators.

Back in Egypt, Hosni Mubarak is wishing this were so. But not even an old, ailing despot like Mubarak is delirious enough to believe what passes for sharp political commentary at The Atlantic.

Tory Jew Scum! Aaron Porter, member of the British Labour Party and president of the National Union of Students was attacked by an angry mob at a student fee protest in Manchester. He needed the police to extricate him from the crowd hurling anti-Semitic epithets at him; multiple arrests followed at the violent protest.

Will Egypt protests result in a greater regional threat to Israel? Anger in Cairo starting to focus on America and Israel for supporting the Mubarak regime. Whether this has anything to do with the Muslim Brotherhood’s role remains to be seen, but they’re not helping.

Western Australian man sentenced to three years of jail time for posting anti-Semitic videos to the Internet. Brendon Lee O’Connell posted videos of himself insulting a Jewish man and telling Jews their days are numbered.

Israel and Europe are going into space, together. Israel will be trading research and scientists with the European Space agency to work on astrophysics, satellite engineering and environmental monitoring as well as hosting joint conferences and symposiums.

Last year a group of Muslim and other anti-Israel students shouted down Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren and wouldn’t let him give his speech at the University of California, Irvine. Six Muslim Student Union members may now be facing a grand jury.

New Turkish action movie is labeled anti-Semitic. With the Gaza flotilla fresh in the memory of both Israel and Turkey, a new spy film throws more fuel on the fire. It starts with an Israeli raid on an aid ship and revolves around a Turkish commando unit going to Israel to kill the commander responsible for the raid. The fact that it was released on Holocaust Remembrance Day probably didn’t help.
