The leftist "peace" group extends a hand of solidarity to the usual suspects.
The Left’s anti-American and anti-capitalist agenda has led its faithful to consistently support adversarial dictators and mass murderers throughout history -- from Joseph Stalin to Mao Tse-tung to Saddam Hussein. Today, as tensions in Egypt continue to escalate, it’s déjà vu all over again. Code Pink, that collection of self-proclaimed feminists supposedly devoted to women's rights, peace and justice, is revealing its true nature once again. As the evidence reveals, the organization’s supposed support for democracy in Egypt is really just a thinly-veiled effort to undermine American and Israeli security interests; indeed, by lending aid and comfort to the radical Muslim terrorist groups that are exploiting turmoil in Egypt, Code Pink is leading the Left in helping Islamists to re-establish the Islamic caliphate.
The notion that Code Pink is supporting a democratic movement that will bring freedom to oppressed Egyptians after thirty years of tyranny surely sounds noble and appealing to the leftist group's legion of supporters. But Jodie Evans and the rest of the staff over at Code Pink know exactly what they are really doing. They have, after all, seen fundamentalist Islam first hand. In 2009, Code Pink organized a gathering of over one thousand “peace activists” to show support for Palestinians in Gaza. This also meant demonstrating solidarity with the ruling power in Gaza: Hamas. Cuddling up with terrorists didn’t appear to bother Code Pink much, as the ladies readily accepted the protection of Hamas while they were in Gaza. The Jerusalem Post’s Caroline Glick recounted how the hundred or so who actually made it into Gaza were treated:
“Hamas immediately placed them under siege. The Palestinian champions had planned to enjoy home hospitality from friends in Gaza. But once there they were prohibited from leaving the Hamas-owned Commodore Hotel and from having any contact with local Gazans without a Hamas escort. Rather than being permitted to judge the situation in Gaza for themselves, they were carted onto Hamas buses and taken on "devastation tours" of what their Hamas tour guides claimed was damage caused by the IDF during Operation Cast Lead. And then these international protesters were forced to participate in a Hamas-organized march to the Erez crossing.”
No matter how shabbily they were treated by Muslim terrorists, Code Pink members – then and now - remain convinced that all of the problems in the Middle East will be solved if America leaves the region and Israel disappears. There are no other enemies of freedom any consequence as far as the Left is concerned and we’re seeing that radical point of view in evidence once again as Code Pink and fellow fringe activists like Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dorn work to further the agenda of radical Islamist groups like Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.
As Kristin Taylor and Andrea Shea King reported at Big Government, Code Pink appealed to followers to: “Help us raise $5,000 in emergency funds today to support the Egyptian revolution.” As of Friday Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin tweeted that they had already raised $10,000. This would not be the first example of Code Pink helping to fan the flames of unrest in Egypt. When the organization was attempting to launch the “Gaza Freedom March” from Egypt in 2009, Benjamin co-authored a letter chiding the Mubarak government for potentially interfering with their plans. The letter went on to say: “If these plans are canceled there will be a lot of unjustified suffering for the Palestinians of Gaza and over a thousand internationals who had nothing in mind but noble intentions.“ The Muslim Brotherhood was so pleased with a letter that simultaneously attacked Mubarak and elicited sympathy for Hamas-ruled Gaza that they published it on their web site. Additionally, the Muslim Brotherhood has published Code Pink banner ads, including one urging the arrest of George W. Bush, at its web site.
Code Pink also solicited participation in this year’s Hamas-aid trip on its own web-site and, happily for Evans and Benjamin, the situation in Cairo boiled over just as the pink crew happened to be in the neighborhood travelling to Gaza. Code Pink agitator Tighe Barry admitted in a recorded phone call that he has been actively participating in the protests and might not be able to get to Gaza after all. Coincidence? You be the judge.
Meanwhile, the true reality of what is happening in Egypt is ominously sobering. The upheaval presents a perfect opportunity to Islamists to gain another foothold of power in the Middle East and to inflict a shattering blow to American and Israeli security interests. Code Pink and their allies understand this very well.
What happens to the average Egyptian once the Muslim Brotherhood flexes its fundamentalist muscle is not of interest to the Left -- the same way that how Iranians suffered after Khomeini took over in Iran did not and does not interest the Left. What does interest the Left is giving the Muslim Brotherhood a seat at the table of governance, which has now become a real possibility with the approval given for it by the President of the United States. And there can be little doubt as to how this drama will end: Obama’s "pre-condition" for including the Muslim Brotherhood in talks – that they renounce terrorism and embrace democracy – is simply meaningless. It’s as meaningless an assurance as the one that President Hindenburg wrested out of a newly-elected Chancellor by the name of Adolf Hitler in 1933.
Hatred of Israel and the United States, and the perception that Mubarak somehow does the bidding of each, is as least as big a factor in driving Egyptians to the streets as is their vague notion of freedom. Pictures of Mubarak with a Star of David drawn onto his forehead abound in Cairo, but the mainstream media carefully avoids that sort of imagery, since it would be inconsistent with the narrative that Code Pink and its allies want us to believe: that this “spontaneous” people’s revolt will lead to a more harmonious, peaceful and free society in Egypt. But the evidence is irrefutable: groups like the April 6th Movement, Mohamed ElBaradei's National Association for Change and many others are committed to Islamic-led genocide of Jews and to the establishment of totalitarian theocracies.
George Soros is on board with the program of supporting the Muslim Brotherhood course, saying: “I am, as a general rule, wary of revolutions. But in the case of Egypt, I see a good chance of success.” And what’s the biggest obstacle to success in George’s world? “The main stumbling block is Israel,” he wrote in a Op-Ed published in the Washington Post. Soros acknowledges that the Muslim Brotherhood would be the most potent political force in a wide-open, post-Mubarak world, but he doesn’t see any problem there either: “The Muslim Brotherhood's cooperation with Mohamed ElBaradei, the Nobel laureate who is seeking to run for president, is a hopeful sign that it intends to play a constructive role in a democratic political system.” The flip side of that statement, that Mohamed ElBaradei’s cooperation with the Muslim Brotherhood confirms that ElBaradei is actually a very dangerous radical trying to hide in moderate clothing, unsurprisingly doesn’t trouble Soros.
As Frontpage Mag editor Jamie Glazov described in his book, United in Hate: The Left's Romance with Tyranny and Terror, the Left’s anger directed at the nations and societies that nurtured them makes for some bizarre bedfellows. The Left’s fascination with murderous tyrants has seen tens of millions of innocent people die and hundreds of millions more living in misery. Code Pink and its allies are playing the same kind of role that the Left played in enabling dictators like Stalin, Mao and Ho Chi Minh. And they’re doing it for the same reasons: they believe that America and the Jewish people are the real enemies. They don’t really care about what will happen to ordinary Egyptians when the fanatics take over, and they won’t lift any more of a finger to help them than they have to help the oppressed populace in Iran, Cuba, North Korea or other nations ruled by anti-American tyrants. Once the Muslim Brotherhood is in control of Egypt, it will be time for the Left to find their next ally to help erode America’s power and to put Israel under greater siege.
