After the Newtown shootings, Obama said on Meet the Press, "I am skeptical that the only answer is putting more guns in schools. And I think the vast majority of the American people are skeptical that that somehow is going to solve our problem." After carefully reviewing polls which showed that most American people do believe the crazy notion that armed guards stop shootings, Obama is now in favor of it.
Having good men with guns on hand to stop bad men with guns. It's a plan so crazy that it just might work. And after a few days of the media ridiculing the idea of having guards in schools, suddenly it's a good idea again.
The Obama administration is considering funding many more police officers in public schools to secure campuses, a leading Democratic senator said.
Sen. Barbara Boxer, a liberal Democrat from California, said she presented the plan to Vice President Biden and that he was “very, very interested” and may include it in the policy recommendations he makes to President Obama.
“If a school district wants to have a community policing presence, I think it’s very important they have it,” Boxer said in an interview Thursday. “If they want uniformed officers, they can do it. If they want plainclothed officers, they can do it.”
Crazy. How is a good guy with a gun supposed to be stop a bad guy with a gun? Oh he'll use the gun? But that's so illiberal.
After the Newtown shootings, Obama said on Meet the Press, "I am skeptical that the only answer is putting more guns in schools. And I think the vast majority of the American people are skeptical that that somehow is going to solve our problem."
After carefully reviewing Congresswoman Shirley Jackson-Lee's proposal to put some sort of giant metal retractable walls in schools and polls which showed that most American people do believe the crazy notion that armed guards stop shootings, this will be included in the Plan of Doom, along with some boilerplate about discouraging gun violence in movies, as an appetizer for attacking the Bill of Rights.
In the liberal Northeast, Democrat gun hysteria is still bubbling. In Burlington, Vermont, City Councilor Norm Blais voted on a resolution to ban assault rifles.
Blais said his city wasn't nearly as safe as people thought, saying that "if somebody was not a convicted felon and was walking through our thoroughfare and had an AK-47 slung over his shoulder, there's nothing we could do about that. Most people are surprised to hear that."
I guess you could shoot him... but everyone knows that shooting a bad guy is a crazy NRA plan that just doesn't work.
Formerly Burlington was absolutely helpless should a man with an AK-47 go strolling around the place. But now men will no longer walk around the fair city with AK-47s in sight, not that they did before. And if a man with an AK-47 does decide to shoot up Burlington, he had better bring some kind of shopping bag first.
"When it comes to preventing future acts of violence in our schools, let me say this: more guns are not the answer," Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy also decried the crazy "Guards" plan . "Freedom is not a handgun on the hip of every teacher and security should not mean a guard posted outside every classroom."
But we could probably use one guard in the school and maybe two teachers who have the same training as sky marshals. But while freedom is a naked TSA scanner and a sky marshal, it's not an armed guard in school because more guns are not the answer. It is an assault rifle ban that will end guns in schools the way that it ended drugs in schools.
