“Islam gave women a whole bunch of rights that Western women acquired later in the 19th and 20th centuries."
Hey it worked for NASA. We may not have a space shuttle anymore, but I'm told that Muslim self-esteem increased 0.5% in Pakistan. And that's almost as weird as this National Park Service detour into promoting the abuse of women by Islam in the name of women's rights.
The National Park Service has a "Women's Rights National Historical Park" which "tells the history of the Women's Rights Movement by focusing on the significance of the first Women's Rights Convention in 1848."
The idea of a "Women's Rights National Historical Park" doesn't make any sense. But a lot of things the National Park Service doesn't make any sense. It began making less sense when the NPS allowed their intern Sofia Brewer-Berres, to begin posting videos about women's rights by the so-called Friends of Women's Rights National Historical Park.
Despite being a park dedicated to a feminist convention in 1848, only one of the four videos is about women's suffrage. The first video is about gay marriage. And there are two more videos by an Islamic school about how a religion in which women are considered second-class citizens is actually the epitome of feminism.
Want to see your tax dollars promoting Islam and giving Muslims at an Islamic school in New York an opportunity to complain that other people don’t understand them, don’t respect them and discriminate against them in restaurants?
Says one student on camera: “People think that Islam oppresses women and there’s no equality, but they’re wrong – there’s equity … 7th century A.D. Islam gave women the right to be involved in politics, the right to earn and keep her own money.”
The student said Islam “gave women the right to work outside of the home, Islam gave women the right to own property, Islam gave women the right to divorce, Islam gave women the right to choose who she marries.”
“Islam gave women a whole bunch of rights that Western women acquired later in the 19th and 20th centuries, and we’ve had these rights since the 7th century A.D., and it’s just not acknowledged worldwide,” he declared.
Islam also gave women the right to be beaten by their husbands.
"Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great. )
And don't forget that Islam gave non-Muslim women the right to be raped by Muslim men. And in the homeland of Mohammed, women are forbidden to drive or travel out of the country without a male guardian.
And women who get raped had better bring four male witnesses or be tried for adultery.
