Rachel Maddow Blames Ukraine on Bush

The Bush policies of more than a decade ago are the root cause of everything, Maddow claimed.

If the sun went nova tomorrow, the last words out of Rachel Maddow's mouth before the MSNBC studios went up in a puff of superheated gas would be, "It's Bush fault."

Either that or "World ends: Transsexuals hardest hit."

So obviously Ukraine is Bush's fault.

Borrowing the title of O.J. Simpson's tell-all book for her documentary, "Why we did it", Maddow connected American hesitation to get involved in Ukraine to Bush, saying that it influenced how Putin views Bush.

Ignoring President Obama’s own weak leadership and lack of a foreign policy, she instead claimed that Bush’s own Middle East decisions ultimately determined the course of present-day U.S. national security and world events.

“The decisions of our generation on national security are determined more than anything by what the George W. Bush administration did with that 9-year war in Iraq and, alongside it, a 13-year war in Afghanistan that’s still going on,” Maddow said. “And the American people are against those wars.”

And the Bush policies of more than a decade ago are the root cause of — everything, Maddow claimed.

“Those are the determinative constraints for our thinking about everything, from Crimea, to Syria, to what the overall size of the U.S. military is,” she said

Fortunately there was no president before Bush whose actions in any way constrained his actions. No president who cut the military and ignored the threat of Al Qaeda. Never happened.

Did the anti-war left that MSNBC became a part of have anything to do with making American foreign policy gun shy? And what of American soldiers who once again returned home to sneers from Maddow and the media elites?

Maddow had gone on an Iraq War rant after Kerry's criticism of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

"It is not often that you have a spit take moment when you're watching the news," the MSNBC host began on her show. She was referring to Secretary of State John Kerry's criticism of Russia's aggression towards Ukraine.

“Absolutely true,” Maddow said. “And something on which the United States has absolutely no leg to stand on after we did exactly that same thing, famously, and on a much larger scale.”

I don't recall the US annexing Iraq, but then again I don't get my news from Daily Kos and Think Progress the way that Maddow does so maybe I missed something.

She also revealed that MSNBC will air a report in place of her show Thursday night which she said will explain the Bush administration’s rationale for invading Iraq, findings which she described as potentially upsetting, but important for the public to know.

“As the U.S. government considers our options and makes our case to the world in the middle of another international crisis right now, I feel a real sense of urgency that we’ve got to get this out there now,” she said.

Oh look it's breaking news. I'm going to guess 1. Steal Iraq's oil 2. Start new Crusade. 3. Israel. 4. Haliburton 5. Armageddon.

Or maybe all of the above.

“We know that the public case for why we were going to Iraq is not true,” she claimed, adding that it all came down to “what Iraq had to offer, not what Iraq was threatening.”

So Maddow is sticking with the oil then. How predictable.
