Palestinian Authority: Unity w/Hamas Dedicated to Destroying Israel Does Not Contradict Peace Talks w/Israel

Israel called off a session of talks in response to the deal with Hamas

In the category of things only John Kerry is stupid enough to believe, the Palestinian Authority, or as Obama calls it, Israel's peace partner, has stated that its latest unity agreement with Hamas, a terror group whose mission statement is destroying Israel, in no way contradicts its peace talks with Israel.

In other news, my enthusiastic support for deporting the entire Palestinian Authority leadership to Antarctica to summer with the polar bears, in no way contradicts my proposed peace talks with them.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said on Wednesday a unity pact he reached with the militant group Hamas earlier in the day did not contradict peace talks he is pursuing with Israel.

Israel called off a session of talks in response to the deal with the Gaza-based Islamist group, which is sworn to its destruction. But Abbas said in a statement that an independent state living peacefully alongside Israel remained his goal.

And he's showing that by signing a unity agreement with an organization whose position is the exact opposite.

The move envisions forming a unity government within five weeks and holding national elections six months after a vote of confidence by the Palestinian parliament.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu charged that Palestinian Authority President Abbas was uninterested in peace talks.

“I said this morning that Abbas needs to choose between peace with Israel and an agreement with Hamas, a murderous terror group that calls for the destruction of the state of Israel and is recognized by the US and the European Union as a terrorist organization,” he said. “Tonight, as talks were still ongoing about the extension of peace negotiations, Abbas chose Hamas and not peace. Whoever chooses Hamas doesn’t want peace.”

But don't worry, the EU has this covered.

EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton urged Israel on Friday to bolster the floundering peace talks with the Palestinians by reversing recent measures in regard to the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

Ashton said she has "followed with concern" developments in the areas, including the Defense Ministry's authorization to expand Jewish property holdings in Hebron, the IDF's claim as state land of 100 hectares in the Gush Etzion region of the West Bank, and reported Israeli demolitions of Palestinian property in Area C and east Jerusalem.

In a statement, Ashton blasted such steps as "not conducive to the climate of trust and cooperation needed for the current peace negotiations to succeed."

Why couldn't Israel do something positive for peace negotiations... like unite with Hamas.
