For a while it was fashionable by experts to sneer at the inevitability that the "poor refugees" swarming Europe and the rest of the free world included ISIS supporters. Surely such a thing was impossible. Even after Bataclan, they kept finding excuses. But the latest axe attack in Germany by an ISIS refugee is the end of that road.
The Muslim attacker was of your classic "widow and orphan" flavor. He came as an unaccompanied minor. He was exactly the sort of migrant that Merkel would cheerfully take selfies with. And then he began hacking away in a train car while shouting Allahu Akbar. He had an ISIS flag in his room and ISIS took credit for his attack.
The media and the authorities will still play the same old tired games, but there is much less scope for them now. Claiming that the latest Muslim refugee terrorist doesn't really qualify, got old a while back.
And our latest attacker was one of those moderate "devout" Muslims.
"He was described as a devout Muslim, but not in any way one who was a radical or fanatic," Herrmann added.
At least one witness reported that the attacker, who had been living with a foster family in the nearby town of Ochsenfurt, had shouted "Allahu Akbar"
Sounds devout to me.
A video released by ISIS claims to show him delivering a speech in Pashto to the camera while holding a knife.
The video calls him ‘a soldier of the Islamic State who carried out the Wurzburg attack’.
The video appears to show Muhammad Riyad saying he would ‘slaughter infidels’ with the knife he holds up to the camera.
He says: "I am a soldier of the caliphate and I am going to carry out an suicide attack in Germany.
"That time is over now. Now the Islamic Caliphate has been established in Iraq, Al-Sham, Khorosan, Libya and Yemen and Allah Willing, soldiers of the caliphate will get you.
"They will slaughter you in your own back yard and they will live in your houses and break your rules and take your land. We will target you in every village, every city and every airport Allah Willing."
A total of 18 people were injured in the axe and knife attack - with two men from Hong Kong and a local woman left fighting for their lives.
