So the official story is that Bill Clinton is going rogue and being unscripted. Maybe.
"So you've got this crazy system where all of a sudden 25 million more people have health care and then the people who are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half. It's the craziest thing in the world," Bill Clinton said.
Maybe he's offering what sounds like a rather Republican critique of ObamaCare because he's just a critic of socialized medicine. Like the kind of socialized medicine he tried to implement.
But combine that with the "leak" of Hillary mocking Bernie supporters, also in language that could have come from Paul Ryan, and it starts looking like a strategy.
Hillary Clinton made a major strategic step by choosing to overtly court Republicans. These moments may well be a part of the strategy. Their supposed unscripted or leaked nature adds to that sense of authenticity. It backs up the claims made by some gullible GOP types that the Clintons are really pretty conservative compared to Obama.
Look, Hillary knows you can't just give everyone free stuff like Bernie wants. (Even though that's her platform.) And Bill knows that ObamaCare is crazy. (Even though he supports it.) The interesting thing is Bernie's lack of offense to Hillary's leaked remarks. The acid test will be whether the White House just grins and bears Bill's comments. Then it will be really obvious that it's a strategy that was cleared beforehand.
