No national disaster can be complete without Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.
In just this recent hurricane season, Sheila Jackson Lee had to show up on CNN and confuse Superstorm Sandy with the Sandy Hook massacre. But we are talking about the politician who wanted more diversity in hurricane names and insisted "All racial groups should be represented."
Hurricanes should "be inclusive of African-American names." The current hurricane names were “lily white”. What about hurricanes “Keisha, Jamal, and Deshawn?”
Here's Hurricane Sheila back at work again.
REP. SHEILA JACKSON LEE: We simply ask for the dignity and respect to not call our mothers a son-of-a-B. I heard a young man who is an NFL player say that he will kneel from now on!
The only reason he is doing this is that someone had the lack of judgment to provoke the situation and call their mothers a name. I refuse to accept that as a standard of leadership for the highest office in the world.
Even if you never understand it, sir, if you think you're playing to your base, we will continue to stand in the gap. And racism is going to be under our foot. You know where else it is going to be? Under our knees.
We in the CBC have always stood for what is right. There is no basis in the First Amendment that says you can not kneel in the national anthem.
I'm pretty sure that President Trump wasn't calling anybody's mother a son of a bitch.
Also, Sheila Jackson Lee seems to think that NFL players are disrespecting the anthem because Trump called them sons of bitches. Rather than the other way around.
The saddest part is that this is a pre-written speech she's reading from a piece of paper.
Then she accuses President Trump of abridging speech with tweets.
"There is no regulation that says these young men cannot stand against the dishonoring of their mothers by you calling for the firing of a son-of-a-B. You tell me which of those children's mothers are a son-of-a-B. That is racism. You cannot deny it, you cannot run for it, and I kneel in honor of them."
How is calling the mothers of NFL players sons of bitches, racism? Who knows.
"I kneel in honor of them. I kneel in front of the flag and on this floor, I kneel in honor of the First Amendment. I kneel because the flag is a symbol for freedom. I kneel because I'm going to stand against racism. I kneel because I will stand with those young men and I'll stand with our soldiers. And I'll stand with America, because I kneel."
And how better to stand with America, the flag and our soldiers than by disrespecting the anthem.
But there are excellent odds that Sheila Jackson Lee has no idea what the protests are about. This is the woman who thought that we won the Vietnam War. And that the Constitution is 400 years old.
I kneel for someone to put Sheila Jackson Lee through elementary school a second time around. And this time get it right.
