A city that has welcomed Islamic supremacists gets what it wanted.

Boston’s WCVB.com reported Monday that “the federal government is targeting Boston and two other American cities to shut down what they are calling the U.S.-Jihad pipeline to ISIS in an attempt to stop Americans from joining the terrorist organization.” Boston apparently made this elite list because Ahmad Abousamra, “an American college graduate from Boston, who has been on the run from the FBI for years, is suspected of joining ISIS and leveraging his computer skills to spread the Iraqi terror group’s propaganda on social media.” And so now Boston is reaping what it has sown for so many years.

The Islamic State has been linked to the Islamic Society of Boston. The Tsarnaev brothers, the Boston Marathon jihad mass murderers, went to mosque at the Islamic Society of Boston. So did other convicted jihad terrorists, Tarek Mehanna and Aafia Siddiqui. During all this, the FBI conducted “outreach” to the Islamic Society of Boston but never investigated it. Now they’re reaping the fruits of their politically correct willful ignorance.

Former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino really, really wanted the Islamic Society of Boston to be well situated in the city. He gave the ISB an astonishing sweetheart deal on the land for the mosque. Menino, according to a 2008 Boston Phoenix exposé, “in a fit of multicultural ecumenicalism, approved the sale of city-owned land to the mosque for the bargain basement — and still controversial — price of $175,000, plus the promise of in-kind services, including upkeep of nearby parks. The predictable uproar that arose in the wake of not only selling land well below market rates, but also selling it to a religious institution in contravention of the supposed separation of church and state, was supposed to be muffled by making the complex available for community use. But oops — that never happened. The promised community facilities for non-congregant use still have not been built.”

Not only that, but although it was “originally intended to minister to an urban congregation of African-American Muslims, the mosque project was turned over by the city, with no fanfare and little notice, to the control of suburban-based Muslims of largely Saudi Arabian heritage: the Islamic Society of Boston (ISB), which more recently became the Muslim American Society of Boston (MAS-Boston). Perhaps the city believed, incorrectly, that one Muslim community could easily step in for another. In fact, the two groups are quite different.”

The Muslim American Society is the principal name under which the Muslim Brotherhood operates in the United States. According to a captured internal Muslim Brotherhood document, the Brotherhood’s “work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and Allah’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

So Menino was instrumental in the construction of a Muslim Brotherhood mosque in Boston, which the Tsarnaevs attended. Were it not for Menino and so many others like him all over the country behaving as if Muslim Brotherhood ties were a matter of no consequence, it would perhaps not be so culturally unacceptable in America today to oppose jihad terror.

It has been so unacceptable for so long, however, that the Islamic Society of Boston mosque that the Tsarnaevs attended was never investigated, despite the fact that they were not the only jihad terrorists to frequent it. Aafia Siddiqui, a.k.a. “Lady al-Qaeda,” who was convicted of trying to murder American soldiers and may also have been plotting a jihad terror attack against an American city, was also a member, as was convicted jihad terror plotter Tarek Mehanna and Abousamra. The renowned Muslim Brotherhood sheikh, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who has praised Hitler and called upon Muslims to finish his job of killing Jews, was a trustee of the Islamic Society of Boston and has addressed the mosque congregation during fundraisers. Another imam who has addressed the Boston congregation, Yasir Qadhi, has called for the replacement of the U.S. Constitution with Islamic law and said that the “life and prosperity” of Christians “holds no value in the state of Jihad.”

On June 12, 2013, as the scandal of the Obama Administration’s massive surveillance of law-abiding Americans was breaking, it was revealed that while the National Security Agency was listening to every phone call and reading every email, there was one place where people could be safe from surveillance: inside a mosque. Investor’s Business Daily reported that “the government’s sweeping surveillance of our most private communications excludes the jihad factories where homegrown terrorists are radicalized.

Since October 2011, mosques have been off-limits to FBI agents. No more surveillance or undercover string operations without high-level approval from a special oversight body at the Justice Department dubbed the Sensitive Operations Review Committee.”

This panel “was set up under pressure from Islamist groups who complained about FBI stings at mosques. Just months before the panel’s formation, the Council on American-Islamic Relations teamed up with the ACLU to sue the FBI for allegedly violating the civil rights of Muslims in Los Angeles by hiring an undercover agent to infiltrate and monitor mosques there.”

And specifically: “The FBI never canvassed Boston mosques until four days after the April 15 attacks, and it did not check out the radical Boston mosque where the Muslim bombers worshipped.”

The next day, Representative Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) confronted FBI director Robert Mueller about this, saying:

The FBI never canvassed Boston mosques until four days after the April 15th attacks. If the Russians tell you that someone has been radicalized and you go check and see the mosques that they went to, then you get the articles of incorporation as I have for the group that created the Boston mosque where these Tsarnaevs attended, and you find out the name Alamoudi – which you’ll remember because while you were FBI director, this man who was so helpful to the Clinton administration with so many big things, he gets arrested at Dulles Airport by the FBI and he’s now doing over twenty years for supporting terrorism. This is the guy that started the mosque were your Tsarnaevs were attending, and you didn’t even bother to go check about the mosque? And then when you have the pictures, why did no one go to the mosque and say, “Who are these guys? They may attend here.” Why was that not done, since such a thorough job was done?

Mueller initially disputed this, saying, “Your facts are not altogether well –” In a heated exchange, Gohmert shot back: “Sir, if you’re going to call me a liar, you need to point out specifically where the facts are wrong.”

Mueller responded: “We went to the mosque. Prior to Boston,” he said vehemently. “Prior to Boston happening, we were in that mosque talking to imams several months beforehand as part of our outreach efforts.”

Gohmert then asked: “Were you aware that those mosques were started by Alamoudi?”

“I’ve answered the question, sir,” Mueller replied.

Not satisfied with this, Gohmert pressed: “You didn’t answer the question, were you aware that it was started by Alamoudi.” Mueller then admitted that he had not been.

Meanwhile, Boston refused to run our AFDI pro-freedom ads (we are suing on free speech grounds, of course). In nearby Worcester, Roman Catholic Bishop Robert McManus canceled my scheduled talk on Muslim persecution of Christians because, he said, it would harm the wonderful dialogue that local Catholics were having with Boston-area Muslims. He did this at the behest of a local Muslim leader who openly professed his support for convicted jihadist Mehanna.

And so now Boston is a hub for Islamic State recruitment. How is all that “outreach” working out?

The solution to this case was always right at hand. Unfortunately political correctness kept the police from reaching the obvious conclusion.

A friend said they were stunned that police apparently never investigated the significance of the fact that the trio — Brendan H. Mess, 25, Weissman, 31, and Rafael M. Teken, 37, who was also Jewish — were killed on the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.

That might have led them to take a second look at Tsarnaev, a Chechen Muslim immigrant who investigators now know was already starting down a path to Islamic radicalism.

“I told the police that there were only two Muslims I knew of who hung around the group of friends,” the friend told the paper. “Because of the 9/11 date, the fact that Tamerlan and Brendan’s last girlfriend were Muslim stood out.”

But the police didn’t choose to follow up on that until the Muslim terrorists had already bombed the Boston Marathon. Brendan Mess’ Muslim ex-girlfriend was apparently Hibatalla Eltilib, a Sudanese, who reportedly also found the bodies, which might expand Tamerlan’s motive in the murder.

According to the filing made Monday, Ibragim Todashev told investigators Tamerlan Tsarnaev participated in a triple slaying in Waltham on Sept. 11, 2011.

The filing is prosecutors’ attempt to block Dzhokhar Tsarnaev from getting certain information from authorities, including investigative documents associated with the Waltham slayings.

According to prosecutors, the ongoing investigation into the 2011 slayings is reason not to allow Dzhokhar Tsarnaev access to the documents he’s seeking.

Dzhokhar should be getting waterboarded at Gitmo, instead of enjoying the support of his fan club of liberal teenage girls and liberal lawyers while tampering with an investigation.

Unfortunately we’re on Obama Time now. And terrorists get the velvet glove treatment.

Early Wednesday morning, Chechen immigrant Ibragim Todashev, 27, was shot dead at his Orlando apartment while being questioned by an FBI agent and other law enforcement officials about his connection to Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Law enforcement sources report that Todashev was initially cooperative, but became violent as he was about to sign a written statement confessing to a triple homicide allegedly committed by himself and Tsarnaev. “The agent, two Massachusetts State Police troopers, and other law enforcement personnel were interviewing an individual in connection with the Boston Marathon bombing investigation when a violent confrontation was initiated by the individual,” said a statement released by the FBI. “During the confrontation, the individual was killed and the agent sustained non-life threatening injuries.”

The murder of Brendan Mess, 25, Raphael Teken, 37, and Eric Weissman, 31, occurred in Waltham, Massachusetts two years ago on September 11. The three men were discovered a day later, with their throats slit, and their bodies covered in marijuana and thousands of dollars in cash. No one has been charged in the case.

Law enforcement sources said that Todashev and Tsarnaev once worked out together at a Boston area gym. So did victim Brendan Mess. Tamerlan’s father, Anzor Tsarnaev, said his son and Todashev belonged to a small circle of Chechens involved in amateur fighting in the Boston area, and that they met “a few times” at events. Mess was also involved in mixed martial arts fighting, and sparred with Tsarnaev on occasion, a friend of both men told the Wall Street Journal.

The FBI became interested in Todashev when phone records connected him to Tamerlan Tsarnaev. The FBI kept track of him over the course of several weeks and questioned him on a few occasions as well. According to one official, Todashev had been cooperative to the point where he cancelled a planned trip to Russia in order to keep talking to the FBI. Todashev’s friends corroborated the FBI’s interest, saying they had been keeping track of him since the April 15 atrocity in Boston. They added that Tuesday night’s interview was supposed to be his last one with law enforcement officials.

Another friend, Umar Taramov, said he and his younger brother accompanied Todashev to meet investigators that night, but left when the meeting dragged on for hours. He was shocked when he returned and discovered Todashev had been killed following a violent altercation. “The Ibragim I know is a very normal guy,” contended Mr. Taramov. “This isn’t someone who would have done something crazy.”

Despite that assessment, Todashev had been involved in two previous incidents. In 2010, he was charged with with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, and civil infractions following a crash between his van and a car carrying two women. Todashev had to be restrained by witnesses when he attempt to aggressively confront them. The charges were subsequently dropped.

Earlier in May, he was charged with felony aggravated battery for fighting over a parking spot with a 54-year-old man and his 36-year-old son at Orlando’s Premium Outlets mall. The son was hospitalized after sustaining a split upper lip and getting several teeth knocked out, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Todashev was free on a $3,500 bond after being arrested by sheriff’s deputies at gunpoint, according to Florida court records.

Neighbors who knew Todashev while he was still living in the Cambridge area of Boston, described him as nasty. They also noted that he and Tamerlan Tsarnaev used to hang out together drinking beer and eating chicken on a Harding Street stoop. “I was the happiest person when they moved. … It’s a little more peaceful since they left,” said one neighbor. Another neighbor said Todashev “intimidated” her.

NBC News is reporting that the motive for the triple slaying was a drug deal gone wrong. According to law enforcement sources cited by the network, Tsarnaev and Todashev executed the men when they realized that the victims would be able to identify them. That may turn out to be the case, but it is hard to completely dismiss the Qur’anic implications associated with the crime. Two of the victims were Jews, and the Qur’an designates the Jews the worst enemies of the Muslims (5:82). All three had their throats slit to the point of near decapitation, and the Qur’an instructs the faithful to “strike the necks” of the unbelievers (47:4). It is unclear why, if the murders were indeed the result of a “drug deal gone bad,” a large sum of money and drugs were left behind, leaving the possibility that the scene was crudely staged. That the crime took place on the anniversary of 9/11 is also significant, due to the obsession Islamic jihadists characteristically possess for dates of terrorist attacks and Western victories.

It is not clear who shot Todashev during his interrogation. Along with the FBI agent who was attacked, there were Massachusetts state troopers and the Orlando police in the house during the interrogation. An FBI incident review team from Washington, D.C. was in the Orlando area yesterday investigating the incident. According to procedure, the team will question all the witnesses to the shooting. A separate Shooting Incident Review Group committee, comprised of as many as 13 FBI members, will also analyze the incident to determine if the use of force was justified or not. The agent who was attacked has not been publicly identified, but he is a member of the FBI’s Boston division.

As of now there is nothing to indicate that Todashev had anything to do with the Boston bombings. Officials concede that he had some connection with radical Chechen rebels, but it remains unclear whether he had any role in radicalizing Tsarnaev. According to his father, Abdulbaki Todashev, Ibragim was neither violent or particularly devout. “He is ordinary, like all Chechens, he followed Islam and that’s it.” He further contended that his son was currently “learning to walk again” following an operation, which would have made it impossible for him to take part in the Boston bombings.

Abdulbaki Todashev also questioned the FBI’s version of his son’s death. “How could he attack a policeman with a knife especially, as they say, if there were five or six of them in his house?” he asked.

An autopsy was expected to be completed yesterday, but the report will not be made available while the case remains under criminal investigation. A relative whose name was kept from the public came forward to claim Todashev’s body from the Orange-Osceola County Medical Examiner.

Late yesterday afternoon, the Washington Times reported that the condo occupied by Todashev is owned by Roman Shakhmanov, 28, who is currently residing in Houston, TX. At this time the relationship between the two men is unknown.

In a note left behind on the boat where he was hiding, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev claimed he and his brother bombed the Boston Marathon in retribution for U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq. Dzhokhar called victims of that atrocity “collateral damage.” Sadly, numerous pundits on the Right and the Left have been parroting Dzhokhar’s line, also alleging that the bombing was more or less “blowback” from America’s Middle East forays. Never mind that our missions liberated countless Muslims from the likes of the Taliban and Saddam Hussein and that, in fact, they are now all but abandoned. Certainly, if anything strikes at the heart of the discredited “blowback” hypothesis, it is the 2011 9/11 anniversary slaying. The brutal murder of the three Boston men allegedly committed by Tamerlan Tsarnaev — something it is virtually impossible to believe that Dzhokhar would have been unaware of — proves that the Tsarnaevs were not driven by politics but driven by bloodlust. They were adherents to an ideology that nurtures the human capacity for evil. And they became monsters.

The deadly cost of replacing counterterrorism with a Muslim hearts and minds campaign.

Three days after the tenth anniversary of September 11, left-wing activist Spencer Ackerman struck a blow for Muslim terrorism by denouncing FBI training materials as Islamophobic.

The training materials dealt with such topics as the doctrinal basis for Jihad and the origins of terrorism in Islamic law. The story spread into the mainstream media, and the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, whose leaders had endorsed terrorist groups and helped raise money for terrorists, began pressuring the FBI to recant the threat of Islamic terrorism.

In February of 2012, Amine El Khalifi was arrested for plotting to carry out a suicide bombing in the US Capitol building. Before he began his mission, he visited the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center, whose former Imam was Al Qaeda leader Anwar Al Awlaki and whose parishioners included Fort Hood terrorist Nidal Hasan. At his sentencing, El Khalifi said, “I just want to say that I love Allah.”

But that did not stop the FBI from announcing a few days later that it had completed purging references to Islamic terrorism from its training materials. A month earlier, Tamerlan Tsarnaev had begun his trip to Russia and by the time he returned, the training materials meant to prepare agents for the reality of the terrorist plot that he and his brother would carry out had been buried out of sight.

Where El Khalifi had failed in Washington, the Tsarnaev brothers would succeed in Boston.

The counterterrorism information purge had been completed by the time the lead Boston bomber returned to America, but it had begun earlier under Obama.

The 9/11 Commission Report had freely used terms like “Jihad,” “Takfir” and “Islam” to define the nature and motivations of the enemy. But the 2009 National Intelligence Strategy did not mention them. Neither did the FBI counterterrorism lexicon. They had been replaced by “violent extremism.”

Violent extremism is generic. Predicting an attack requires specifics. Investigators cannot stop undefined crimes or arrest undefined suspects. The less information they have to work with, the more likely the terrorists are to succeed.

Islam is the crucial link between disparate terrorist groups from Dagestan to Thailand, from Mali to Afghanistan, from Israel to Nigeria and from the United States to Chechnya. Without the Islam factor, there was no reason to suspect that Tamerlan Tsarnaev was a threat to anyone except the Russians.

The old FBI training materials had explained what Chechen, Pakistani, Egyptian and Nigerian terrorists had in common. In the new ones there was a great empty space in which facts died and lives were lost.

In 2011, the year that the Russians were warning America about Tamerlan Tsarnaev, Deputy U.S. Attorney General James Cole was issuing another kind of warning.

Cole, an Obama recess appointment, said, “All of us must reject any suggestion that every Muslim is a terrorist or that every terrorist is a Muslim. As we have seen time and again – from the Oklahoma City bombing to the recent attacks in Oslo, Norway – no religion or ethnicity has a monopoly on terror.”

While Islam might not have an absolute monopoly on terrorism, it had cornered the market. If terrorism were a search engine, Islam would be Google. If terrorism were an operating system, Islam would be Microsoft. If terrorism were a mail delivery service, Islam would be the United States Post Office.

While a new generation of law enforcement officers was being indoctrinated in terrorism denial and taught to watch out for Christian, Jewish and Buddhist terrorists, the real terrorists were hard at work.

On the tenth anniversary of September 11, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev murdered three Jewish men. The authorities wrote it off as a drug murder, even though all the drugs had been left behind.

In December of that year, the White House oversaw the release of Empowering Local Partners to Prevent Violent Extremism in the United States. Written by an apologist for Islamic terrorism who described Salafism as a primarily non-violent movement, the report staked everything on outreach to local mosques and institutions.

The new CVE counterterrorism strategy, the non-battlefield version of the disastrous COIN program being run in Afghanistan, pinned counterterrorism strategy on working with “local partners” to counter “violent extremism.” The report never mentioned the word “Jihad” and emphasized that violent extremism could come from anywhere.

CVE outsourced counterterrorism to Islamic mosques and organizations, despite their history of links to terrorism. With CVE, the United States no longer had a counterterrorism strategy; it had a Muslim Hearts and Minds strategy.

The day after the Benghazi attack, a CVE conference was held featuring discussions on how to make moderate Muslim videos go viral. Other efforts included world tours for moderate Muslim rappers. Hundreds of millions of dollars were being spent on various outreach gimmicks overseen by law enforcement officers wasting their time while terror plots were being hatched in their own backyards.

A Rand report praised the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization for bringing together Muslims, Christians and Jews and having local mosques host sessions on the dangers of the Internet. GBIO included the Islamic Society of Boston, whose mosque Tamerlan Tsarnaev attended. The Islamic Society of Boston’s extensive terrorist links had been overlooked in the eagerness to find moderate Muslim partners.

The Boston Marathon attack changed nothing at all. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was given a Miranda reading, like the Christmas Day bomber and the Times Square bomber before him. Obama had attempted to give 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed a civilian trial and plotted to give Osama bin Laden a civilian trial if he could be captured alive. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s atrocities certainly did not force him out of the civilian justice system and into the custody of military interrogators who might have gleaned everything about the terrorist plot and the terrorist plots to come.

The Mirandizing of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was the final step in a counterterrorism policy of calculated ignorance and appeasement. At each step, law enforcement was pressured into trading awareness and investigation for outreach and sensitivity.

The new strategy said that the best way to fight Islamic terrorism was by not offending Muslims, but the Hearts and Minds campaign failed in Afghanistan and it failed in Boston. Pretending Islamic terrorism did not exist, did not make Muslims more willing to turn over terrorists. Instead it made law enforcement less aware of Muslim terrorist threats and cost the lives and limbs of Americans.

Terrorism cannot be fought in the dark. Each step that Obama took to blind law enforcement to the Muslim threat and to give terrorists every possible privilege has been paid for with American blood.

The definitive account of the Tsarnaev brothers' savage jihadist attack on the homeland.

On Monday, April 15, Chechen-born Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his younger brother Dzhokhar placed and detonated two shrapnel-packed pressure cooker bombs near the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon, killing three and hospitalizing over 200 others. As well, the two murdered a policeman, while trying to avoid capture. If the two had not been stopped when they were, according to the FBI, the brothers were headed for New York City to create further carnage. The motivation for the attacks were the brothers’ religious beliefs.

During preliminary interviews, following his arrest and the death of the older brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev told authorities that the bombing had been carried out to “defend Islam,” which he said his brother believed was itself under attack by the United States. What brought the two former refugees to the point of plotting to brutally murder innocent civilians in their adopted country has been a matter of speculation. However, there are some relevant pieces of information that could be used as a basis to form a valid opinion on the matter.

On January 12, 2012, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, flew into Moscow, Russia and, from there, spent the next six months travelling to locations in Chechnya and Dagestan, two areas known for heavy militant Islamic activity and both home to terror cells. While in Dagestan, Tsarnaev was seen making six visits to a known militant at a mosque. Previously, in 2011, Russian authorities had asked the FBI to investigate Tsarnaev for possible links to extremist groups.

One month after arriving back in the States, Tamerlan created a YouTube page and began posting radical Islamic videos to it. The videos included ones associated with Imarat Kavkaz (IK or Caucasus Emirate), an al-Qaeda-linked organization that the U.S. State Department has labeled a Specially Designated Terrorist Group. Much like the Boston Marathon bombing, IK is notorious for targeting civilians, including with suicide attacks, one of the methods said to have been considered by the Tsarnaev brothers. Indeed, IK has its own suicide battalion.

Tsarnaev’s YouTube page also contains lectures made by Feiz Mohammed, an Australian Islamic leader who has, on numerous occasions, been reported for inciting violence. In his infamous “Death Series” DVD set, Mohammed curses non-Muslims and urges Muslim youth to be prepared to sacrifice themselves for their religion. On one of the DVDs, he states, “We want to have children and offer them as soldiers defending Islam. Teach them this: There is nothing more beloved to me than wanting to die as a mujahid (holy warrior). Put in their soft, tender hearts the zeal of jihad and a love of martyrdom.”

Over the last couple of years, Tamerlan and his wife, Katherine Russell (Tsarnaeva), had become religiously observant. Russell had converted to Islam in 2010, at the behest of Tsarnaev. She became pregnant with their daughter, dropped out of school, and began distancing herself from friends and family. Today, Russell can be found donning the female Islamic head covering. It’s a noticeable difference from her mug shot, when she had been arrested in June 2007 for shoplifting – a foreshadowing of her mother-in-law Zubeidat Tsarnaeva’s arrest for the same crime four years later.

According to his aunt in Dagestan, Patimat Suleimanova, whilst he was overseas, Tsarnaev would speak with his wife every day via the computer program Skype. And when he would lapse in his Islamic duties, according to Sueimanova, his wife would council him on how to observe properly. Though a number of people have claimed that she was verbally abused by Tamerlan, the two no doubt remained close. His aunt said that, prior to leaving, he had considered bringing Russell with him to Dagestan.

Russell is currently an FBI “Person of Interest” and as such has hired an attorney, Joshua Dratel, who specializes in terror-related cases, to defend her. Dratel handled the case of Lynn Stewart, the lawyer who was convicted of smuggling messages between her then-client, the spiritual leader of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, Omar Abdel Rahman, and followers of an Egyptian terrorist group, and he represented Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks, who had attended an al-Qaeda training camp in Afghanistan.

Russell has claimed that she knew nothing of the marathon bomb plot, yet it was her and Tsarnaev’s less-than-sizeable Cambridge apartment where the bombs were built and where explosive residue was found throughout the residence, including in the kitchen and bathroom. It is in her personal computer, where the FBI found a downloaded copy of Inspire, an al-Qaeda publication which discusses how to build homemade bombs. It is she who phoned Tamerlan, following the attack, to inform him that he was “being watched.”

According to his uncle, Ruslan Tsarni, Tamerlan had become enamored with a religious leader in Cambridge, Massachusetts who, as suspected by Tsarni, succeeded in radicalizing both Tsarnaev and his younger brother. If there is any truth to what the uncle has said, that leader could very well have come from the Islamic Society of Boston (ISB), a Cambridge-based radical mosque frequented by both brothers.

The imam of ISB is Basyouny Nehela. On his bio, it says he has served as ISB’s imam for the past decade. The bio is found on the website of the Boston chapter of the Muslim American Society (MAS-Boston), where Nehela sits on its Board of Directors. From 2004 to 2008, Nehela served as the head of the MAS Tarbiyah (Education) Department. Nehela also teaches Islamic Studies and Comparative Religion at MAS’s Islamic American University (IAU), a Michigan-based institution chaired by the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Yusuf al-Qaradawi.

MAS and ISB are not exactly separate entities. MAS runs the ISB’s sister mosque, the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center (ISBCC), located in Roxbury Crossing. A big MAS logo is found on every page of the ISBCC website. All of this is daunting, given the terrorist ties of both MAS and ISB.

MAS was founded by members of the Muslim Brotherhood in 1993, including the former global head of the Brotherhood, Mohammed Mahdi Akef. The National Executive Director of MAS is currently Mazen Mokhtar. From 1992 through 1996, Mokhtar proudly used the Internet to announce his support for Hamas and suicide bombings. Prior to the September 11 attacks, Mokhtar served as a web designer for what was then the main website raising funds and recruiting fighters for al-Qaeda and the Taliban, Qoqaz.net. The site was a project of Azzam Publications, an organization named for Osama bin Laden’s mentor, Abdullah Azzam.

ISB was co-founded by convicted terrorist Abdurahman Alamoudi. In March of 2003, Alamoudi became part of a Libyan plot to assassinate Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah. Alamoudi helped to recruit participants for the plot and assisted in the transfer of hundreds of thousands of dollars to be used to finance the operation. In July 2004, Alamoudi pled guilty to three federal offenses, which included terror-related charges. Later, he was sentenced to 23 years in prison.

This could very well be the reason why the imam of ISBCC, Suhaib Webb, was replaced as the representative for the Boston Muslim community with a little known individual, in a ceremony honoring the victims of the marathon attack, featuring an address made by President Barack Obama.

Another figure that had an effect on the Tsarnaev brothers was Anwar al-Awlaki, a senior leader of al-Qaeda, who was killed in a targeted drone strike in Yemen. Tamerlan and Dzokhar had spent time studying his teachings, teachings that had inspired a number of other terrorists, including Nidal Hasan, who took the lives of 13 servicemen at Fort Hood where he was stationed; the underwear bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who threatened to blow up a U.S. airliner; and Faisal Shahzad, who attempted to detonate a bomb in Times Square.

Had they not been discovered acting suspiciously in Boston on surveillance video, Tamerlan and Dzokhar Tsarnaev might very well have succeeded where Shahzad had failed. According to Dzokhar, the two brothers had planned to, as well, carry out bombings in New York City’s Times Square following the Boston Marathon attack.

In April 2012, Dzokhar traveled to Times Square with a group of his friends. It has been speculated that this trip might have been a scouting mission for the future attack. A photograph from the trip depicts Dzokhar and four other individuals arm in arm. Two of those in the photo, Dias Kadyrbayev (who uploaded the photo to the web) and Azamat Tahayakov, Muslim foreign exchange students from Kazakhstan, have since been arrested for a crime related to the bombing.

Along with another individual, Robel Phillipos, after receiving a text message from Dzokhar advising them to take his possessions, the three allegedly entered Dzokhar’s dormitory room at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where they were all students, and plotted to get rid of evidence from the bombing. Kadyrbayev proceeded to remove from the room a backpack filled with firework shells that had been emptied of gunpowder, Dzokhar’s laptop computer, and a jar of Vaseline which he suspected was used to make the bombs. The three dumped the backpack and fireworks in the trash, though the materials were later recovered by authorities.

Dzokhar hung out at Tazhayakov and Kadyrbayev’s apartment until midnight two days after the attack. One month prior to the bombing, Dzokhar had told Kadyrbayev and Tahayakov, who both drove around in a BMW with a front licence plate which read, “Terrorista #1,” that he knew how to make a bomb.

Kadyrbayev and Tahayakov, who had previously been arrested for violating their student visas, face up to five years in prison. Phillipos faces up to eight years in prison for lying about his involvement in the crime.

Another individual from the Times Square photograph, Ayat Abdussalamov, also from Khazakhstan and also a student at UM Dartmouth, had traveled to Times Square previously. In August 2011, Ayat visited the area with someone with the same last name as his, Ruslan Abdussalamov. The two took photos of each other alongside an ominous sign which read, “WELCOME 2 KHAZAKHSTAN.”

Ayat’s photo is currently the banner for his Facebook page. And Ruslan uploaded his (Ruslan’s) photo to his own Facebook page. Also on Ruslan’s Facebook are various photos of a two-year-old boy, who is his relation, possibly a younger brother. One of the photos has the boy dressed in Islamic garb praying. Another is of the boy carrying an assault rifle with scope mount. Next to the photo, one friend commented, “Boevik!” meaning Chechen militant or terrorist.

Undoubtedly, much of the above contributed to Tamerlan and Dzokhar Tsarnaev’s extremist behavior. Their actions were evil to the core, yet in their minds, they were perpetrated for a perfectly legitimate reason – to defend their religion – which in their warped set of beliefs was somehow being endangered by Bostonians, New Yorkers and Americans in general.

While everyone now understands who al-Qaeda is, the Tsarnaev brothers brought to the public eye another strain of radical Islam, one that Russians recognize and Americans are quickly learning about. Tamerlan and Dzokhar were not Middle Eastern or South Asian. They weren’t Palestinian or Pakistani. They were Chechen. It’s the latest terror link that the United States needs to be on guard for – a link that proved that exposure to the American way of life is no antidote for Islamic-based terror.

The common interest that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and the MSA shared.

While the hunt for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was still underway, the President of the Muslim Student Association at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth stepped forward to claim that he had tried to get Dzhokhar to join the MSA several times only to be turned down.

“We played soccer together weekly and I knew him fairly well,” he said. “If there’s one thing I can assure you it’s that this kid was NOT a Muslim. He did drugs, he drank alcohol, he didn’t want to help us when we were carrying out humanitarian relief efforts… he knew nothing of Islam.”

And yet, despite Dzhokhar supposedly not being a Muslim, the MSA president kept trying to get him to join. Even though Dzhokhar Tsarnaev described his worldview as Islam and claimed that he was acting to protect Islam, the MSA president could claim with a straight face that he was not a Muslim.

No one had contacted the Dartmouth MSA for comment, yet the MSA rushed out to get in front of the story by making two claims. The first claim was they had casually known Dzhokhar Tsarnaev from soccer games and the second claim was that he was not an MSA member and had nothing to do with the MSA.

By the time the media got around to interviewing the MSA Secretary, it was more of the same story. He had played soccer with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, had tried to get him to join the MSA and didn’t think of him as religious.

The Dartmouth MSA’s comments looked very much like damage control. Soccer was mentioned without context because the soccer games were MSA events. Dzhokhar’s participation in them meant that he had participated in MSA activities. The question was whether his MSA participation ended on the soccer field.

The humanitarian relief efforts were the MSA’s aid programs in the Syrian civil war between the Muslim Brotherhood and the Syrian government. As a Muslim Brotherhood front group, the MSA’s officers unsurprisingly stood on the side of the Brotherhood militias.

While supporting one terrorist campaign in Syria, the Dartmouth MSA was fiercely denying any role in another terrorist campaign in Boston.

“I would’ve loved for him to come to the MSA a few times so he can maybe understand his religion better,” Bassel Nasri, the Dartmouth MSA secretary, said on 60 Minutes. “Maybe that would, that would’ve helped in what happened, I would say.”

Considering the MSA’s track record, it would more likely have caused it. Many MSA members have gone on to careers in terrorism. The list of MSA presidents who went on to become Al Qaeda members alone is shocking.

Not only were co-founders of the MSA like Jamal Barzini, Hisham al-Talib and Ahmed Totanji involved in supporting terrorism, but the highest profile American Al Qaeda leader and the godfather of the modern “Lone Wolf” terrorist, Anwar Al-Awlaki, had been an MSA president.

Al-Awlaki wasn’t even the highest ranking Al Qaeda leader to have been an MSA president. That honor went to Wa’el Hamza Julaidan, a co-founder of Al Qaeda and MSA president at the University of Arizona. The highest profile MSA president to have gone down was MSA national President Abdurahman Alamoudi, currently serving out a 23-year prison sentence.

Both the national and the local Muslim Students Association groups had long histories of being involved in terrorism, of raising money for terrorists and of promoting terrorism. Nor was the Dartmouth MSA a moderate oasis in a sea of radicalism. Not only were the Dartmouth MSA officers taking sides in the religious war consuming Syria, but Charles C. Johnson found that the Dartmouth MSA “routinely advertises speeches and seminars taught by radical imams.”

One of those Imams, Suhaib Webb, was an associate of Anwar Al-Awlaki. Webb is the Imam of the Islamic Society of Boston. The founder of the ISB was the aforementioned Abdurahman Alamoudi. One of the ISB trustees was Sheikh Yusuf Al Qaradawi; the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood. Webb is a member of the Muslim American Society, which Alamoudi admitted under oath was a front for the Muslim Brotherhood.

Webb had said that Jihad can be justified if the rights of Muslims are violated. Webb’s website posted a book review by Rashid al-Ghannushi of Sheikh Qaradawi’s “Fight of Jihad.”

Sheikh Qaradawi had come out in support of suicide bombings and said, disapprovingly, “It is unfortunate to hear that the grand imam has said it was not permissible to kill civilians in any country or state, even in Israel.” Qaradawi’s own position was that Israel is an invader and aggressor society and accordingly there are no such things as Israeli civilians.

Rashid al-Ghannushi had likewise said, “There are no civilians in Israel. The population- males, females, and children- are the army reserve soldiers, and thus can be killed.” Theologically what applied to Israel, could also easily apply to the United States. Qaradawi had issued his own fatwa declaring, “Those killed fighting the American forces are martyrs… those defending against attempts to control Islamic countries have the intention of jihad.”

The al-Ghannushi review on Webb’s website sneered at Muslims that want “to abolish jihad from the life of the ummah, spreading the spirit of submission and surrender, under the guise of various calls such as tolerance and peace.”

“Al-Qaradawi stresses, alongside classical and contemporary scholars, the consensus that jihad becomes obligatory upon every Muslim if a Muslim land is attacked, or Muslims suffer fitna (are prevented from freedom of faith).”

In the hospital, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev claimed that he was defending Islam from attack. Where could he have gotten that idea?

If we are to believe Muslim Brotherhood front groups like the MSA and MAS, then Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was “radicalized” by watching YouTube videos. But it is far more likely that he was indoctrinated with a Jihadist mission closer to home.

The MSA’s track record in turning out terrorist is indisputable. As are its links to Imams and Sheiks who preach Jihad. Maybe Dzhokhar Tsarnaev never did more than take part in MSA soccer games alongside MSA officers and did not absorb any of their views. Perhaps he never attended an MSA-sponsored lecture by an Imam or Sheik who discussed the finer points of which infidels you can kill. But considering the MSA’s murderous track record, it is far more likely that he did.

The Dartmouth MSA was eager to associate with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev when he was only a terrorist in training, but is now just as eager to write him off as a soccer buddy. But Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and the MSA shared more than an interest in soccer. They also shared an interest in Jihad.

The administration's "lone-wolf" theory takes one devastating blow after another.

On Wednesday, criminal complaints were filed against three college friends of alleged Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Two Kazakh nationals, Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev, were charged with conspiring to obstruct justice, and U.S. citizen Robel Phillipos was charged with making false statements. Tazhayakov and Kadyrbayev declined to seek bail and will remain in custody until a hearing on May 14. Phillipos will be held until a detention hearing next Monday. The trio claim at the moment that they abetted Tsarnaev’s jihadist attack only to help him evade capture, however, their account of events raises questions about their level of involvement and knowledge of Tsarnaev’s radicalism. Meanwhile, the left’s fervent hope that the attack was the product of “self-radicalized” terrorists becomes more tenuous by the day as such details emerge.

So far there is limited background information on the three men, and some of the information available is contradictory. Along with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, all them began their college careers at University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth in 2011. Kadyrbayev and Tazhayakov have been identified as Muslims, and, like the Boston Marathon bombers, Kadyrbayev at least described his “worldview” as “Islam” on social media sites.

CNN reports that Tazhayakov came to the U.S. from Kazakhstan courtesy of a student visa. According to the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, he is currently enrolled but has been suspended pending the outcome of this case. However, CBS News reports that Tazhayakov’s student visa was invalid, and that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) was unaware that the student was no longer in school when he was let back into the United States, according to a federal law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity. Tazhayakov left the U.S. in December and returned on January 20. According to the same official, his student-visa status was terminated in the interim because he had been academically dismissed from the university. The official further noted that Tazhayakov’s information was contained in the Homeland Security Department’s Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), when Tazhayakov returned to the country.

In another example of the brokenness of the DHS monitoring system in relation to the Boston Marathon bombing, department spokesman Peter Boogaard admitted that when Tazhayakov returned, CBP was unaware his visa had expired. Boogaard claimed DHS had recently reformed the system to ensure CBP would have all relevant information, before amending that statement, saying reform was “ongoing.” When questions about his immigration status came up in the hearing on Wednesday, Tazhayakov’s lawyer, Harlan Protass, said he had reenrolled at the college with a different major. Students have 30 days to repair their enrollment status–but only if they are already in the U.S. Thus, it appears there has been another security lapse in this case.

Dias Kadyrbayev, who shares an apartment with Tazhayakov, is also a Kazakh national and was taken into custody April 20 on the suspicion he had likewise violated the terms of his student visa, according to his lawyer, Robert Stahl. Stahl said that Kadyrbayev had been accused of a “technical” visa violation for not attending classes on a regular basis and that he is not currently enrolled in college. Kadyrbayev’s father, Murat, told a TV news station in Kazakhstan that his son “missed a couple, or maybe several classes,” but that he finished school “with excellent grades.” Meanwhile, Robel Phillipos, the third arrestee in relation to the jihad attack, is not currently enrolled at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. Like Tsarnaev, he attended the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in Cambridge, Massachusetts during his high school years.

The three arrestees’ story of how they came to the decision to destroy evidence of the plot and help Tsarnaev evade authorities is full of curiosities. According to court papers recounting the men’s claims, the beginning of this saga occurred a month ago when Dzhokhar Tsarnaev told Tazhayakov and Kadyrbayev he “knew how to make a bomb.” Kadyrbayev last saw Tsarnaev two days after the bombing and noticed the alleged terrorist has cut his hair short. They had a brief conversation outside the dorm. When the FBI released pictures of the suspects 24 hours later, two of the three men thought one of the men looked like Dzhokhar. Kadyrbayev texted Dzhokhar saying so, and received several texts in return, including, “lol,” “you better not text me” and “come to my room and take whatever you want,” according to court papers.

The three men then met at Tsarnaev’s dorm room where they learned Dzhokhar was not around. They were let in by his roommate and claimed they watched a movie. After the movie, they said they found Dzhokhar’s backpack which was full of empty fireworks and decided to take it, along with a laptop computer so as not to arouse the roommate’s suspicions about the backpack. According to Phillipos, they began to “freak out” when they realized Tsarnaev was one of the bombing suspects. Kadyrbayev claimed they then “collectively decided to throw the backpack and fireworks into the trash because they did not want Tsarnaev to get in trouble,” according to the complaint. Kadyrbayeva allegedly put the items in a garbage bag and tossed it in a dumpster near his apartment.

There is a key discrepancy in the defendants’ statements regarding the time they dumped the evidence. It either happened the night of April 18, before Tsarnaev was formally identified as a suspect, or the morning after, which would poke a serious hole in their claims that they didn’t know the backpack and fireworks could be used as evidence in the case. Adding to the intrigue, Reuters is reporting that the trio “may have thrown away a knapsack at Tsarnaev’s request, a law enforcement source said.” These details, along with the men’s swift assumptions and actions immediately following the bombing, raise questions about their prior knowledge of the attack and familiarity with Tsarnaev’s jihadist proclivities. Were the men privy to discussions of a plot and anticipated the terrorist attack? Were they sympathetic to Tsarnaev’s jihadist turn and abetted his crime for this reason? Were they concerned they could be linked to the bombing by the computer that they disposed of (allegedly to “save their friend”)? Did they in fact play a greater role in the atrocity than they claim?

The lawyers for the two Kazakh nationals insist their clients are innocent. Protass insisted that Tazhayakov “has cooperated fully with the authorities and looks forward to the truth coming out in this case.” Stahl insisted that Kadyrbayev “absolutely denies” allegations of a coverup, was “shocked and horrified” by the bombing, and, incredibly, that he told investigators about getting rid of the items from the dorm room but “did not know those items were involved in a bombing.”

The garbage bag was recovered by law enforcement on April 26. It contained the backpack and fireworks, along with a jar of Vaseline, and some of Tsarnaev’s college homework. On Thursday, it was reported by CBS News that the computer had been recovered as well. It may turn out to be the most critical piece of evidence in the case, according to experts, who note that it may contain more evidence than Tsarnaev himself is capable of giving them. Digital forensics expert Jared Stern was brimming with confidence. “From the radicalization point to the operational inception to its execution–anyone that contributed in any way may as well call the FBI now because they’re on their way,” he said.

The arrest of Tsarnaev’s cohorts, along with their suspicious behavior following the marathon bombing, throws yet another wrench in the left’s narrative that the Chechen jihadists acted alone. Numerous other revelations have emerged that raise more questions about the scope on this atrocity. A few days ago, FBI agents visited the Rhode Island home of Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s in-laws, where his widow, Katherine Russell, and her 3-year-old daughter are staying. They emerged carrying several bags. The same day, female DNA and fingerprints were found on the components of the bombs used in the attack. The FBI took a sample of Katherine Russell’s DNA, even as they later revealed that they want to find out what Tamerlan discussed with his wife in a phone call that occurred a few hours after the agency released photos of him and his brother as suspects in the attack.

Russell’s attorney, Amato DeLuca, released a written statement Wednesday saying his client “will continue to meet with law enforcement, as she has done for many hours over the past week, and provide as much assistance to the investigation as she can.” Yet according to a report released by the New York Times late yesterday afternoon, Russell has stopped cooperating with authorities. Furthermore, her DNA and fingerprints do not match those found on the bomb, indicating still another individual is possibly connected to the attack. It has now come to light that the bombers’ mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, was also on a terrorist watch list and was recorded discussing jihad with the plot mastermind, Tamerlan. She is a known Islamic extremist and appears to have helped radicalize her sons. Her stunning cries of “Allahu Akbar” during a recent CNN interview and tearless media tirades upbraiding America leave little wonder as to why she is now considered a person of interest in the case by the FBI.

The parameters of the Russian connections to this case are expanding as well. Tamerlan was put under surveillance by the Russians during his six-month trip to Dagestan last year because of his possible connection to a Canadian jihadist named William Plotnikov, who was killed in a shootout with Russia’s counterterrorism forces in the region while Tamerlan was there. After Plotnikov’s death, Tamerlan was apparently in such a hurry to leave he never bothered to get his Russian passport — which is why his parents claim he made the trip. And while there is currently no evidence showing the two men met, independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta claims Russia’s FSB security service was interested in Tsarnaev because of his connection to Plotnikov. Citing Russian security forces, the paper also reported that Tsarnaev met several times with suspected Islamist Mahmud Mansur Nidal, an 18-year-old who was also killed in a shootout with Russian police two months before Tsarnaev returned to Boston. Those meetings reportedly prompted FSB to request further communications with U.S. law enforcement officials.

That was Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s second visit to the region. Two years ago, he drew the attention of Russian security forces for attending a Salaafist mosque that has been a den for terror suspects killed in shootouts with Russian counterterrorism officials. Tsarnaev’s frequents visits to the mosque elicited the FSB’s 2011 warning to the FBI about Tamerlan’s potential radicalization. The Russians also provided the FBI with the wiretapped conversations between Tamerlan and his mother, whom Russia was monitoring. The Russians also provided the FBI with a conversation between Tsarnaeva and an unnamed man in the Russian Caucasus under FBI investigation in an unrelated case.

Also late yesterday afternoon, in another of the many revelations the administration has been releasing in a seemingly calculated manner, it was reported that the brothers had considered striking on the Fourth of July, but finished building their bombs faster than expected. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev also revealed that he and his brother had watched Internet sermons made by Anwar al-Awlaki, the radical America cleric killed by a drone strike in Yemen in 2012.

What makes the aforementioned release seem calculated is that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev gave the FBI this information back on April 21, before he was Mirandized. Given the Obama administration’s penchant for “shaping a narrative,” much like what occurred when they attempted to blame Benghazi on an Internet video, it is quite possible this represents an attempt to convince a largely inattentive public that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s cooperation is ongoing. That is simply not the case. Nor does it seem to be the case that Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev are the “self-radicalized” terrorists the president wishes they were, even as he has yet to mention the Islamic jihadist motivation that drove them to commit their atrocity. At the very least it seems that Tamerlan’s pipeline to the Chechen Islamist terrorist movement influenced his actions and, possibly, materially supported the attack. The elaborateness of the plot, potentially involving the bombers’ arrested Muslim friends, we will know soon enough.

Who needs state-controlled media when the press censors itself?

The media coverage of Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has one theme and one tack. Like 30 of the 31 men on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list, they were terrorists who just happened to be Muslim.

While the New York Times dispatched its best and brightest lackeys to Boston to write sensitive pieces on how hard it was for the two Tsarnaevs to fit in, it fell to a UK tabloids like The Sun to conduct an interview with the ex-girlfriend of the lead terrorist and learn that he wanted her to hate America and beat her because she wouldn’t wear a Hijab.

There are all sorts of jobs that Americans won’t do. Like pick lettuce, bomb the Boston Marathon and report honestly on the motives of the bombers. The only news network that operates outside the media consensus is owned by an Australian mogul who also owns The Sun.

Americans like to think of their press as freer, but it’s only free in the sense that it voluntarily puts on its own muzzle. European tabloids get into bloody brawls with regulators. American newspapers have nothing to brawl about. They will gleefully report anything that undermines national security at the drop of a hat, knowing that they won’t be touched, but there is a long list of subjects that they won’t touch with a million-mile pole.

In Europe, editors risked their lives to publish the Mohammed cartoons. In America, on the rare occasion that they were depicted, they were usually censored. CNN, which could show Kathy Griffin trying to molest Anderson Cooper, without the benefit of pixelation or a suicide button, blurred out Mohammed’s face; assuming that Muslims would appreciate the sensitivity of treating their prophet’s face like an obscene object.

The American media does not need to be censored. It censors itself.

Did the New York Times really fail to come across Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s ex-girlfriend while they were busily interviewing every single person in Boston who ever ran into the future terrorists? The New York Times may be incompetent, but it isn’t that incompetent. If it could track down Tamerlan’s old coach, it could track down his old girlfriend. It chose not to.

So did every other paper.

Either The Sun is staffed with crack journalists who could do what no American newspaper, news channel and network news program could, or The Sun got the scoop on Nadine Ascencao because no newspaper on this side of the ocean wanted to touch it. And it’s easy to see why.

Nadine talks about being beaten in the name of Islam, forced to memorize Koran verses and being taught to hate America. Most journalists on this side of the ocean want quotes on what nice boys the two Tsarnaevs were and how, in true liberal fashion, no one could have expected them to do something like this.

Every background story on them is filled with the same pabulum, because the endless march of “We couldn’t have known” quotes provides the government-media complex with the plausible deniability it needs to continue doing the same thing all over again. If the people couldn’t have known, then it stands to reason that their government or their media couldn’t have known either.

The only newspaper besides The Sun to do an interview with Nadine Ascencao was the Wall Street Journal; which just happens to be owned by the same tabloid mogul. But there is an interesting difference between The Sun and the Wall Street Journal. The WSJ piece doesn’t mention Hijabs, Koran verses or hating America. It doesn’t mention Islam at all.

Co-written by a Pakistani journalist, it emphasizes only that Tamerlan was a bully of no particular religion. That reporter’s twitter feed features a retweet from another Muslim WSJ reporter who broadcasts that the plans of Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to head to Times Square amounted to nothing. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Instead of wasting time on a dead end like Islam, the media has spent its time chasing down every other possible angle.

Did Tamerlan turn terrorist because he took too many blows to the head while boxing? Could the Boston Marathon bombing have been prevented if only we had let him win?

The New York Times assembled a touching story of an aspiring immigrant boxer radicalized by the petty restrictions of a government that wouldn’t let him apply for citizenship because of his history of domestic violence and appearance on a terrorist watch list. But how does that jibe with the Tamerlan from five years earlier who beat up a boy that his sister was dating because he wasn’t Muslim?

When the media must deal with Tamerlan’s theology, it keeps him in the category of the troubled man who turned to some wacky extremist version of Islam propounded by a YouTube convert. The man who beat his sister’s boyfriend because he wasn’t a Muslim and beat his ex-girlfriend because she wouldn’t wear a Hijab wasn’t some brainwashed drone who had his mind stolen by YouTube videos. He was a Muslim.

That angle is the most terrifying one that the media can think of. If they have to mention the “I” word, they will sandwich it between “extremist” and “radicalization.” But it’s not Tamerlan who was the radical extremist. Among Muslims, his views were mainstream. The Wahhabis are in ascendance in most parts of the world, including the United States. Islamist parties roundly won the Arab Spring.

What was the difference between Tamerlan Tsarnaev and any of the Syrian Jihadists held up by the media as the epitome of courage and bravery? What is the difference between Tamerlan Tsarnaev and the Hamas and Fatah terrorists that the media peevishly contends Israel must make peace with? What is the difference between Tamerlan Tsarnaev and any of the tens of thousands of Muslim terrorists fighting in conflicts around the world?

While the European media, for all its faults, occasionally grapples with the incompatibility of liberal values and Muslim values; on this side of the ocean the topic is all but untouchable.

A story about a future Muslim terrorist beating his girlfriend because she wouldn’t wear a Hijab creates a sneaking suspicion that Muslim multiculturalism is incompatible with liberal values. The incompatible Muslims, like Mohammed’s face, have been pixelated out of existence in the reports on terrorist attacks by disgruntled boxers, doctors and perfume salesmen who just happen to be Muslim.

These are the Muslims that the media doesn’t see. And it is doing everything possible to make sure that we don’t see them either.

The egregious missteps that will rob the Boston massacre's victims of justice -- and make us more vulnerable to jihad.

The Obama administration is reportedly negotiating a plea bargain that would spare the life of Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and that could allow the FBI to continue interrogating the suspect about other terrorist plots.

NBC News reports that federal prosecutors and Tsarnaev’s lawyers “have begun very early discussions about a possible deal in which he could avoid the death penalty in return for a full accounting to the FBI of what happened and why as investigators continue working to find those answers for themselves.”

Talk of a legal settlement that would allow Tsarnaev to escape execution comes after high-powered attorney Judy Clarke, a death-penalty specialist from San Diego, was added to Tsarnaev’s legal defense team earlier this week. U.S. Magistrate Judge Marianne Bowler approved Clarke’s appointment Monday.

Clarke is credited with helping to secure life sentences for clients facing the death penalty such as Jared Loughner, “Unabomber” Ted Kaczynski, and 1996 Olympics bomber Eric Rudolph. Clarke’s fees will reportedly be paid by U.S. taxpayers.

Federal terrorism charges were laid against Tsarnaev last week after some lawmakers demanded the U.S. citizen be treated as an unlawful enemy combatant. Such a move would have given authorities a freer hand to question Tsarnaev about Islamic terrorist operations.

Tsarnaev had been subject to questioning by the FBI for about 16 hours when Judge Bowler suddenly appeared unannounced in the suspect’s hospital room early on April 22. Accompanied by a prosecutor and a public defender, Bowler — not law enforcement officers — read Tsarnaev his Miranda rights and the suspect immediately stopped cooperating with the FBI.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said Bowler made the right call. That decision was “totally consistent with the laws that we have,” he said Saturday. “The decision to Mirandize was one that the magistrate made,” Holder added.

But a legal expert said Holder is misstating the law, as handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court in the precedent-setting 1966 ruling, Miranda v. Arizona.

“Eric Holder was dead wrong when he said there was a legal requirement to Mirandize Dzhokhar Tsarnaev,” attorney Curt Levey, president of the Washington, D.C.-based Committee for Justice, told this writer in an interview.

“The Supreme Court’s ruling in Miranda says only that without a Miranda warning the defendant’s statements cannot be used to convict him in a criminal trial. There is no requirement that you be Mirandized. It applies only to the evidence that can be used to convict you.”

In other words, had it not been for Bowler taking the extremely unusual step of reading Tsarnaev his rights, the FBI could have continued trying to extract intelligence from the suspect that might have been useful in fending off future Islamic terrorist attacks.

This appears to be a new approach to judicial activism. Bowler seems to have usurped the powers of the executive branch by taking it upon herself to decide on behalf of the American government that assuring the admissibility of evidence gathered from Tsarnaev in court was more important than possibly obtaining more information from him about terrorist networks that could have saved American lives. It is not supposed to be Bowler’s decision to make.

Meanwhile, citing unnamed sources, the Daily Mail (UK) reported that the Saudi government warned the U.S. last year that the other Boston Marathon bomber, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, killed in a shootout with police April 19, was a dangerous extremist. The security alert, which the Saudi embassy in Washington, D.C., and the Obama administration deny was issued, was separate from warnings about Tsarnaev that Russian intelligence provided to the Obama administration.

After Saudi Arabia rejected Tsarnaev’s December 2011 application to enter the kingdom to make a pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi authorities sent a written warning to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the British government last year advising that “something was going to happen in a major U.S. city.”

According to the newspaper, the “government-to-government” letter named Tsarnaev specifically but did not indicate when or where an attack would take place. The Saudis acted because they believed U.S. authorities should be intercepting packages intended for Tsarnaev to look for items used to make bombs.

Tsarnaev’s tourist visa for Saudi Arabia was rejected a month before he traveled to the Russian republic of Dagestan where he may have received training that allowed him to make and detonate the pressure-cooker bombs that he and his brother Dzhokhar set off at the Boston Marathon on April 15.

The Saudi official rejected the idea that Tamerlan Tsarnaev was trained by al-Qaeda during his absence from the U.S. in 2012. Saudi Arabia’s sources in Yemen said Islamic militants knew of Tsarnaev but mocked him, calling him “the volunteer,” the unnamed official told the Daily Mail.

“He was a gung-ho, self motivated jihadi who wasn’t tasked by a larger group,” the official said. Blowing up bombs at the Boston Marathon is “beneath” al-Qaeda, he said. “They don’t think like this. This is like a firecracker to them. They want something big.”

In a related development, three young men associated with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev are now accused of serving as his accomplices following the Boston Marathon bombing.

Under arrest for conspiracy to obstruct justice are Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev of Kazakhstan. Robel Phillipos, a U.S. citizen, is charged with making materially false statements to federal investigators. The trio attended the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth with Tsarnaev, according to FBI affidavits filed in federal court.

Days after the bombing, the three allegedly watched a movie in Tsarnaev’s dormitory room and then found a backpack containing fireworks. The gunpowder in the fireworks had been removed.

“Kadyrbayev knew when he saw the empty fireworks that Tsarnaev was involved in the Marathon bombing,” according to one of the affidavits. “Kadyrbayev decided to remove the backpack from the room in order to help his friend Tsarnaev avoid trouble. He decided to take Tsarnaev’s laptop as well because he did not want Tsarnaev’s roommate to think he was stealing or behaving suspiciously by just taking the backpack.”

The three men “collectively decided to throw the backpack and fireworks into the trash because they did not want Tsarnaev to get into trouble,” the document stated.

Tazhayakov and Kadyrbayev are also alleged to have violated the terms of their student visas.

The Boston Herald reports that the Tsarnaev family, including the two brothers and their parents, took in more than $100,000 in taxpayer-funded assistance from 2002 to 2012. The benefits included cash, food stamps, and Section 8 housing subsidies.

“The breadth of the benefits the family was receiving was stunning,” a person with knowledge of documents provided to a state legislative committee told the newspaper.

This means that Massachusetts taxpayers were almost certainly subsidizing the Boston Marathon bombers and their family as the two Tsarnaev brothers immersed themselves in the world of Islamic terrorism.

The state government has given more than 500 documents to the House Post Audit and Oversight Committee in the Massachusetts General Court, the state legislature.

“I can assure members of the public that this committee will actively review every single piece of information we can find because clearly the public has a substantial right to know what benefits, if any, this family or individuals accused of some horrific crimes were receiving,” said committee chairman Rep. David Linsky, a Democrat.

Welfare officials are investigating whether the Tsarnaev family notified the state about Tamerlan’s extended stay in Dagestan last year during which he may have interacted with Islamic terrorists.

The extent of the welfare payments made to the family surfaced despite official efforts to keep the information hidden.

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, a Democrat and longtime supporter of welfare-rights groups such as ACORN, had earlier refused to disclose details of the welfare benefits, citing state privacy laws. The real motivation of Patrick, a left-winger often compared to his friend and ally Barack Obama, for failing to hand over the information was more likely that he was trying to defend his state’s out-of-control social programs from adverse publicity.

Adding insult to injury, if Dzhokhar Tsarnaev receives a sentence of life imprisonment, America’s taxpayers will be paying his bills for the rest of his natural life.

More arrests made in the Boston bombing massacre -- as Obama's falsehoods unravel one at a time.

Wednesday brought new confirmation of the increasingly obvious fact that the U.S. intelligence apparatus in the age of Barack Obama is woefully unprepared to deal with the foremost threat to the safety of Americans today: Islamic jihad terrorism.

Nor is this lack of preparedness due to a lack of funding (Lord knows there is plenty of that for anything Obama wants to do) or other resources. There are many people who are deeply knowledgeable in the ideology and belief system that inspires Islamic jihad terror, and they are ready and willing to share their knowledge with intelligence officials – indeed, many of them did so during the Bush Administration and the early years of the Obama Administration, before his 2011 purge the of counter-terror training materials of the truth about Islam and jihad.

That purge came after hard-Left journalistic propagandist Spencer Ackerman wrote a series of “exposes” that supposedly exposed “Islamophobia” in government counterterror training — that is, truthful information about Islam and jihad. See here and here for details. Then Farhana Khera, Executive Director of an Islamic organization called Muslim Advocates, wrote a letter on October 19, 2011 to Barack Obama’s then-Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism and current CIA director John Brennan. The letter was signed by 57 organizations, including many with ties to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR); the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA); Islamic Relief USA; the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA); the Muslim American Society (MAS); and the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC).

The letter demanded that Obama officials “purge all federal government training materials of biased materials” – that is, materials that they claimed were biased against Islam – and “implement a mandatory re-training program for FBI agents, U.S. Army officers, and all federal, state and local law enforcement who have been subjected to biased training.”

The Obama Administration immediately complied. Dwight C. Holton, former U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, emphasized that same day that training materials for the FBI would be purged of everything that Islamic supremacists deemed offensive: “I want to be perfectly clear about this: training materials that portray Islam as a religion of violence or with a tendency towards violence are wrong, they are offensive, and they are contrary to everything that this president, this attorney general and Department of Justice stands for. They will not be tolerated.”

And so a year and a half after this purge, on Tuesday night we learned that not only the Russians, but also the Saudis warned U.S. officials about Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s jihadist leanings. The UK’s Daily Mail reported that “the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia sent a written warning about accused Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in 2012, long before pressure-cooker blasts killed three and injured hundreds, according to a senior Saudi government official with direct knowledge of the document. The Saudi warning, the official told MailOnline, was separate from the multiple red flags raised by Russian intelligence in 2011, and was based on human intelligence developed independently in Yemen.” Moreover, “a Homeland Security official confirmed Tuesday evening on the condition of anonymity that the 2012 letter exists, saying he had heard of the Saudi communication before MailOnline inquired about it.”

However, on Wednesday the Saudi Embassy in Washington denied all this. Embassy officials did not explain, however, how the DHS official who had confirmed the story the previous day got this false information. And so the question of whether or not the Saudis warned the FBI about Tamerlan Tsarnaev joins the strange story of the Saudi national who was questioned shortly after the Boston bombing – both remain full of unexplained anomalies. And Obama officials don’t appear to be in any hurry to clear up those anomalies, because it is likely that the Saudis are backtracking so as to cover up yet more evidence that the see-no-jihad, hear-no-jihad FBI ignored warnings that their politically correct training did not equip them to understand.

Also on Wednesday, three friends of jihad bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were arrested for helping him dispose of material connected to the jihad bombings. These arrests followed assurances from numerous officials that the Tsarnaev brothers acted alone.

That made two intelligence failures in one day: the thorough discrediting of the widely circulated claim that the bombers acted alone, and news of a second country warning the U.S. about a jihadist at a time when U.S. officials are not allowed to know what a jihadist is.

On Tuesday, Spencer Ackerman complained that the examination of counterterror procedures that Obama promised during his press conference that day was unlikely to bear fruit. He noted that James “Clueless” Clapper, the director of national intelligence, was overseeing that review, and “yet before the inquiry has concluded, Clapper is satisfied — as he first said last week, before any review even got started — that the intelligence agencies didn’t drop the ball on Boston.”

He should be grateful for that. If the Obama Administration’s review of the massive intelligence failures related to the Boston jihad bombing were thorough, it would lead directly to him.

In any case, Wednesday’s revelations show the human cost of the denial of the reality and magnitude of the jihad threat. Three people are dead and well over 200 wounded because bumbling, ill-instructed (and in many cases reeducated) FBI agents didn’t know how to understand or act upon intelligence they received from Russia and (probably) Saudi Arabia. How many more have to die before the bloody legacy of Farhana Khera, John Brennan, Spencer Ackerman and Barack Obama is decisively rejected?

Yet as the FBI’s official “Most Wanted Terrorists” list glaringly illustrates, there is no mystery behind the agenda of those compelled to commit mass atrocities against American citizens. View the list yourself, and see if you can discern the common denominator:

Obama refuses to do the one thing that will keep America safe.

Barack Obama promised Tuesday that he would be taking lessons from the Boston Marathon jihad bombing: “When an event like this happens, we want to review every step that was taken, we want to leave no stone unturned, we want to see if there is in fact additional protocols and procedures that could be put in place that would further improve and enhance our ability to detect a potential attack.’’

Sounds great – but ultimately all Obama offered were words. Words that are unlikely to be backed up by real action. The one thing that needs to be done – an official acknowledgement of the reality and magnitude of the global jihad, and the commitment of U.S. intelligence to understanding and combating it – is the one thing that will not be done.

After all, the Administration official Obama has charged with ferreting out the lessons of Boston is none other than his director of national intelligence, James “Clueless” Clapper, who thinks the Muslim Brotherhood is “largely secular.” Obama explained: “Part of what Director Clapper is doing is to see if we can determine lessons learned from what happened’’ in Boston.

Yet one of the foremost of those lessons is that people like James Clapper should not be entrusted with the nation’s intelligence-gathering apparatus. The Russians had Boston jihad bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev under surveillance, were deeply concerned about his contacts with jihad terrorists, and shared those concerns with the FBI. Yet Obama said that criticism of how the FBI handled that intelligence was “not right, although I am sure it generated some headlines. It’s not as if the FBI did nothing. They not only investigated the older brother, they interviewed the older brother, they concluded that there were no signs he was engaging in extremist activity.”

Obama concluded from this that “the question then is, is there something that happened that triggered radicalization and an actual decision by the older brother to engage in the tragic attack we actually saw in Boston, and are there additional things that could have been done in the interim that might have prevented it?’’

That’s not the only conclusion that can be drawn from the fact that the FBI found no signs that Tsarnaev was “engaging in extremist activity.” The other is that the FBI had no idea how to tell whether or not Tamerlan Tsarnaev was “engaging in extremist activity,” because the “extremist activity” he was engaging in was Islamic jihad, and Obama’s FBI is forbidden to study Islamic jihad. This is because the Obama Administration in 2011 mandated the scrubbing of counter-terror training materials of the truth about Islam and jihad. It is the terror threat that dare not speak its name.

The Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) deserves some credit for this — they mounted a huge campaign in 2010 to have me dropped as a trainer of FBI agents. Nor was that campaign personal: they mounted similar campaigns against any trainers and training materials that told the truth about Islam and jihad. But CAIR’s was not a lonely struggle. Others responsible for the politically correct scrubbing of counterterror training materials of any mention of Islam or jihad include hard-Left pseudo-journalist Spencer Ackerman, who published a series of “exposes” of “Islamophobic” counterterror training; Fatima Khera of Muslim Advocates, who wrote a letter to Obama’s then-chief counterterrorism adviser and current CIA director, John Brennan, demanding that this material be removed. Brennan, who readily acquiesced to this demand, also bears responsibility, as does Salam al-Marayati of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, who piled on in the mainstream media. They got what they wanted: now FBI agents are woefully ill-equipped to deal with the Islamic jihad threat, which they largely must pretend does not even exist.

Now in Boston, we have begun reaping the fruit of this.

Khera’s letter to Brennan complained that my books could be found in “the FBI’s library at the FBI training academy in Quantico, Virginia”; that a reading list accompanying a powerpoint presentation by the FBI’s Law Enforcement Communications Unit recommended my book The Truth About Muhammad; and that in July 2010 I “presented a two-hour seminar on ‘the belief system of Islamic jihadists’ to the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) in Tidewater, Virginia,” and “presented a similar lecture to the U.S. Attorney’s Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council, which is co-hosted by the FBI’s Norfolk Field Office.” In fact, I gave many such presentations to various government agencies and law enforcement groups.

Again, the complaints about me and my work were not singular or personal; they came amid many other complaints about similar material from other writers, and presentations by other counter-jihadists. So now all that material is gone, and the witless and politically correct FBI of today ignored Tamerlan Tsarnaev despite repeated warnings from Russian authorities. And if they did investigate him, they didn’t know what to look for or how to understand what they were seeing.

The Leftist journalists and Islamic supremacist groups who pressured Obama (as well as Obama and his administration officials themselves) ought to be held accountable for the law enforcement and intelligence failures connected to the Boston jihad bombings. J’accuse.

The deadly "progressive" mindset that caused the intelligences failures in the Boston bombing.

Last Thursday, adding insult to injury in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing, the administration of Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick stonewalled efforts by the Boston Herald to determine the extent of government benefits provided to the Tsarnaev brothers, particularly attack mastermind Tamerlan Tsarnaev. The Patrick administration’s absurd stance, with its preoccupation with the “privacy rights” of non-citizen Tamerlan — an alien terrorist — is a reflection of the kind of inept leadership and dogmatic thinking that led to the success of the attack in the first place. The egregious intelligence failures and uniform chorus of jihad denial following the attack have left little question that leftist political establishment, from state agencies to the Oval Office, does not recognize the true nature of the threats America faces. Nor does it take them seriously.

Gov. Patrick was careful to ensured a united front of silence on the government’s potential role in subsidizing Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s lifestyle during the period he was becoming radicalized. Several different state agencies and others thwarted the Herald’s information-gathering efforts. When the paper asked about the brothers’ Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card usage, state welfare spokesman Alec Loftus would only say that Tamerlan Tsarnaev, along with his wife and daughter, received benefits ending in 2012. Labor department spokesman Kevin Franck contended that whether Tamerlan received unemployment compensation was “confidential and not a matter of public record.” Regarding Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s college aid, University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth spokesman Robert Connolly contended that “student records…cannot under federal law be released without a student’s consent.” The FCC cited privacy in declining to reveal if the brothers had been issued government-subsidized cell phones. Their landlord dodged questions about whether they used Section 8 housing vouchers to subsidize their living arrangements.

Two day later, after an enraged public made their feelings known, the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) released details of such information, but only to state lawmakers. “The Tsarnaev parents were eligible to receive benefits as legal, non-citizen residents who were granted asylum status and met the basic eligibility criteria for DTA, including household income levels, presence of dependent children and other factors,” said a letter from DTA interim commissioner Stacey Monahan to David Linsky, Chairman of the House Post Audit and Oversight Committee. Yet once again, Monahan reminded Linsky that state law forbids the release of “protected data” without an individual’s consent.

Monahan subsequently released new details, emphasizing that neither brother directly received state welfare benefits at any time. They did however, receive them through their parents, and Tamerlan obtained benefits through his wife, Katherine Russell, for a period of 14 months, from September 2011 to November 2012. Currently, taxpayers remain on the hook for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s medical bills at at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, as well as his court-appointed attorneys.

The refusal to release this information is typical of the left’s agenda to reduce Islamic terrorism to ordinary criminal misconduct — not outbreaks of the ongoing jihadist war against the U.S. According to this view, alien terrorists who live among us are not considered enemies of state, a part of a wider global war against the country, but common criminals. Most Americans intuitively understand how severely this mentality impedes our government’s ability to protect the homeland, putting innocent civilians at risk. Unfortunately, the litany of embarrassing intelligence and surveillance failures surrounding the Boston Marathon bombing also suggests that the reality of our national security challenges are not being taken seriously by the Obama-run counterterrorism community as well.

Despite two separate warnings to the FBI and the CIA from Russia in 2011, the FBI closed out their file on Tamerlan Tsarnaev after interviewing him and his family, and deciding he posed no risk. The FBI also added Tamerlan’s name to their TECS database. It alerted the Joint Terrorism Task Force when Tsarnaev left America for a six-month trip to Russia in January 2012. Yet in a prime example of bureaucratic ineptitude, officials differed on who received the alert, with one telling Reuters it went to the FBI’s lead investigator in the Boston bombing, while another said the Customs and Border Protection officer assigned to the Joint Terrorism Task Force would have received it. DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano added to the folly, telling Congress last Tuesday that the database notification expired while Tamerlan was still abroad.

Furthermore, it turns out the brothers’ mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, was also on the Terror Identities Datamart Environment watch list. In a 2011 call taped by the Russians, Tamerlan Tsarnaev “vaguely discussed” jihad with his mother. Zubeidat Tsarnaeva also spoke with a man under FBI investigation located in the Caucasus region of Russia. Yet officials insist that no plot against the United States was discussed.

This is completely unsurprising. The purge of Islamic terrorist references from FBI training manuals, which deleted terms such as “al Qaeda,” “Muslim Brotherhood,” and “jihad,” even as it insists that “training must emphasize that no investigative or intelligence collection activity may be based solely on race, ethnicity, national origin, or religious affiliation” has undoubtedly hamstrung that agency’s ability to connect the dots. Moreover, media is more than willing to see this intentionally-promoted generic viewpoint. The Atlantic ran a piece entitled “The Boston Bombers Were Muslim: So?” as if such a revelation were incidental. MSNBC’s Chris Matthews wondered, “What difference does it make why they did it?” even as he was more than willing to accuse talk show hosts Mark Levin and Michael Savage of being complicit in the Tuscon shooting. CNN contended that “it was unclear what might have motivated the brothers to commit the heinous crime they are suspected of carrying out. All day Friday, reporters sought out people who knew them, trying to understand one thing: Why?”

Such calculated nonsense leads to an inexorable conclusion: progressives are a national security risk.

Furthermore, their PC-inspired track record is littered with corpses. In 2009, Nidal Hasan killed 13 and wounded 31 of his fellow troops while shouting “Allahu Akbar!” and the administration labeled it “workplace violence,” denying the victims of that massacre Purple Hearts in the process. In Afghanistan, more than 100 American and NATO troops were killed in green-on-blue “friendly fire” incidents, until a standing order requiring Americans troops to remove the magazines from their weapons while quartered at bases with their “trusted”–and armed–Afghan trainees, was rescinded in August 2012.

Moreover, several other domestic terrorist attacks have been thwarted, yet none of them have been treated as anything other than criminal actions. Hosam Maher Husein Smadi was arrested for placing what he thought was a car bomb outside the 60-story Fountain Place in Dallas; Mohamed Osman Mohamud was thwarted by the FBI before he could bomb Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square during that city’s annual Christmas tree-lighting event; Farooque Ahmed was arrested for collecting information to facilitate a terrorist bombing attack on Washington, DC transit stations; Afghan Najibullah Zazi, Adis Medunjanin and Zarein Ahmedzay were prevented from conducting a suicide bombing campaign on NYC’s subway system; Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis was prevented from blowing up the Federal Reserve Bank in New York City with a car bomb; and Faisal Shahzad, pleaded guilty of attempting to detonate a car bomb in Times Square–a plot that was discovered by sheer luck.

To support its narrative, the leftist establishment is justifying its lax concern for national security and incompetent oversight by trying hard to portray the bombers as “lone wolves.” The most egregious example of this attempt was perpetrated by the Boston Globe. An article, “Tsarnaev brothers appeared to have scant finances,” attempts to make the case that the brothers’ seemingly comfortable lifestyle was a facade, leading to an inescapable conclusion. “If the brothers had outside financial or technical support for their deadly attack on the Marathon, it certainly isn’t reflected in their lifestyle or their weapons,” the paper contends. “The picture that is emerging is more like terrorism on a budget, consistent with reports that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev told interrogators from his hospital bed that he and his brother acted alone.”

However, facts are emerging that put that assessment in question. On Friday, a national security source speaking on condition of anonymity told Fox News’ chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge that a “line of sight” speed controller from a remote control toy car was used to trigger the bombs. This may mean that a third operative was involved in the attacks. And while there is no evidence from the scene, investigators are probing the Tsarnaev brothers’ computers to glean additional information.

Unfortunately, probing at least one of those computers remains unlikely. CNN has reported that it may have been dumped in a landfill in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Authorities say that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev himself “spurred” them to look there. Yet a U.S. law enforcement official close to the Boston investigation said that there may also be others with knowledge of the computer’s whereabouts, or that others may have played a role in its disposal.

Two of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s friends, Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev, have been arrested. They come from Kazakhstan, and Dzhokhar may have spent the night at their apartment after the bombing. They were recently photographed with the Boston Marathon bomber in Times Square. On Friday, it was revealed that Times Square was ostensibly the Tsarnaev brothers’ next target. Authorities are assuring Americans that the second bombing was a “spontaneous decision,” and that neither Tazhayakov or Kadyrbayev have been linked to terrorist activity. They are ostensibly being held in the hope they can help authorities piece together the movement of the Tsarnaev brothers before and after the bombing. “These guys are not being cut loose immediately, and there’s a reason why,” a federal law enforcement source said.

Whether these men, or any other players are involved in this atrocity remains a distinct possibility. Yet following the bombing, Obama made his priorities clear. “One of the things that makes America the greatest nation on Earth…is that we welcome people from all around the world–people of every faith, every ethnicity, from every corner of the globe. So as we continue to learn more about why and how this tragedy happened, let’s make sure that we sustain that spirit.”

Multicultural spirit aside, the how and why of this tragedy demands a no-holds-barred investigation–that has already been compromised. If another attack is perpetrated in the near future, especially one that may have been prevented if Dzhokhar Tsarnaev had been properly questioned before he was Mirandized, an American public that has so far tolerated the atrocity in Boston will surely not be so forgiving. That this administration would be willing to take such an enormous chance, based on little more than the word of an alleged terrorist that he and his brother acted alone, is testimony to the depth of the White House’s warped convictions.

What disturbing new evidence reveals about the Boston jihadist.

Did Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev murder Jews on the 10th anniversary of 9/11? That’s the question police are now asking, as they continue to dig into the past of Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

The three young men, Brendan Mess, Erik Weissman and Raphael Teken, were found murdered in an apartment in Waltham, Massachusetts on September 12, 2011. They had been killed the night before. All three victims had their throats slashed, and their bodies were covered in marijuana. The crime scene was described as particularly brutal, with an investigator saying, “their throats were slashed right out of an al Qaeda training video. “ But Weissman had been arrested previously on charges of possession with intent to distribute, and neighbors also suspected Teken of being involved in the drug trade. For these reasons, police initially suspected a drug connection. At the time of the killing, investigators were looking for two suspects, who were believed to be known to the victims.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev was known to at least one victim. He has been described as having been a “friend” of Brendan Mess, although, notably, Tamerlan later claimed “I don’t have any American friends.” While Tsarnaev’s turn away from alcohol and cigarettes for religious reasons has been highlighted in the press, this declaration also contains intense religious undertones. Explicit prohibitions against friendship with nonbelievers appear repeatedly in the Qu’ran (see 5:51,5:80,3:28,3:118,9:23). It is important to note that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the second bombing suspect and Tamerlan’s brother, has been described as a “pot head,” which suggests another possible connection.

Far from being merely randomly cruel, throat slitting could be justified religiously, for instance, by Sura 47:4, which reads, “So, when you meet those who disbelieve (in battle), smite (their) necks until you have fully defeated them, then tighten their bonds[.]”

And also Sura 8:12: “Remember thy Lord inspired the angels [with the message]: “I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instill terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them.”

The killing of victims by slitting the throat is indeed an Islamic terrorist trademark for this very reason. This is perhaps best demonstrated by the murders of reporter Daniel Pearl and businessman Nick Berg. Not coincidentally, both men were also Jews.

The targeted murder of Jews by an increasingly radical Muslim population is already well underway in the Western world, especially in France. Just on Tuesday, April 23rd, a knife-wielding maniac screaming “Allahu akbar” attacked a Rabbi and his son in Paris, attempting to murder them. In 2012, Mohammed Merah, a French-Algerian terrorist with Al-Qaeda ties, murdered a Rabbi, and three young Jewish children, along with two French soldiers, before being killed by French counter-terror forces. In 2006, Ilan Halimi, a Jewish salesman, was tortured to death by Islamist gangsters in Paris. According to witnesses, passages of the Quran were chanted while Halimi was stabbed and burned.

Islamic anti-Semitism played a role in all of these killings and attacks. Indeed the legacy of Islamic anti-Semitism is extensive, and developed independently from classical Western anti-Semitism, although there are areas of cross-influence.

If evidence is discovered that shows that the Tsarnaev brothers (either one or both) played a role in the murder of these three young men (at least two of whom were Jewish) back in 2011, it will be easy to claim that, in hindsight, they should have been obvious suspects. This is somewhat unfair. The world is a violent place, and the drug underground even more so. Police see far too much murder and mayhem to be expected to immediately jump to such a conclusion.

But an understanding of how men like Tamerlan ascribe great import to classical, and violent, interpretations of Islamic texts does provide motive, and modus operandi that would have been valuable for investigators to understand. And unfortunately, these classical understandings are of the kind taught in far too many American mosques, including, likely, the one Tsarnaev attended.

More important is what it suggests moving forward. If Tamerlan was involved in the deaths of these three men on the anniversary of September 11th, in 2011, then he was already a hardened killer well before his return trip to Chechnya in 2012. All talk of his having been “radicalized” in Chechnya, already an unlikely claim, would be undermined. If Tamerlan was involved in the deaths of these three men, it also means that European-style, violent, Islamic anti-Semitism has reached American shores, and, as in France, carries with it direct ties to what is sanitized as terrorism, even though for men like Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Mohammad Merah, casual murder and high-profile bombings are simply different manifestations of the same jihad.

Given the tendency by the media to give short shrift to the religious motivations and violent ideology of Islamist terrorists, preferring instead to seek any other kind of explanation, and the federal government’s move to purge counter-terrorism trainers who can provide instruction on the religiously-based motives and methods of Islamist violence, we can expect that more Islamist violence is likely to go undetected. And more murders may go unsolved.

Seeing eye to eye on who's responsible for the attacks against the "Great Satan."

As CEO of 5WPR, a top PR company, I see a lot of regular spinning of the media. It’s part of any news story – but the sickness emanating from the United Nations truly defines what the late former NYC Mayor Ed Koch said: “The United Nations is a stagnant cesspool.”

Listening to the United Nations, America is to blame for the Boston terrorist attacks.

America is to blame for the fact that a 19-year-old immigrant to this country, who was raised here for the last 10 years, dropped a knapsack at the feet of an 8-year-old boy, who died. America is to blame for the fact that two émigré brothers chose to attack innocent people.

Richard Falk, United Nations special Ambassador, an official for the U.N. Human Rights Council who is a professor at the elite Ivy League school Princeton University, wrote an op-ed titled “A Commentary on The Marathon Murders,” which must be studied and examined for an understanding of the sick way of thought that is prevalent at the United Nations.

Much of it requires no commentary for the sane – Falk’s words are quite clear:

• “The American global domination project is bound to generate all kinds of resistance in the post-colonial world. In some respects, the United States has been fortunate not to experience worse blowbacks, and these may yet happen.”

• “America’s military prowess and the abiding confidence of its leaders in hard power diplomacy makes the United States a menace to the world and to itself.” Falk continues:

The war drums are beating at this moment in relation to both North Korea and Iran, and as long as Tel Aviv has the compliant ear of the American political establishment, those who wish for peace and justice in the world should not rest easy. [Note that America is a menace and to blame according to this. Not unlike previous Arab conspiracies of the Great Satan (America) and Little Satan (Israel) being to blame for the world’s problems.]

• “We should be asking ourselves at this moment, How many canaries will have to die before we awaken from our geopolitical fantasy of global domination?”

• Falk speaks of “the somewhat hysterical Boston dragnet” (Yes, Mr. Falk – perhaps America should have been more compassionate and apologized for hunting for the bomber. He was indeed a refugee whose parents left him in this country alone, right?)

These two brothers were Muslim terrorists who sought to kill and maim as many people as possible. And a UN senior official blames America and Israel.

Could one ask if America is indeed to blame for the fact that Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev received food stamps and welfare from American tax payers while growing up? The older-brother, Tamerlan, was living on state welfare benefits along with his wife and daughter. And naturally, Israel is indeed to blame for being the only sane, Western democracy in the Middle East, which is an ally to America.

In the aftermath of this brutal, horrible terror attack, Falk actually had the gall to write an implicit threat: “In some respects, the United States has been fortunate not to experience worse blowbacks, and these may yet happen[.]”

Even a PR firm can’t spin his words. He is a role model for Zubeidat Tsarnaev, the terrorists’ mother who said of Tamerlan, “He was alive. Why did they need to kill him? Why not send him to Guantánamo or whatever? Why did they kill him? Why did they have to kill him? They got him alive. He was in their hands.” And “America took my children away from me.” She continued, “I don’t believe it, and I won’t believe it. I am sure that my kids were not involved in anything.” She is hand-in-hand with Falk, who wrote in his blog that “awkward gaps and contradictions in the official explanations” fuel suspicions that America staged 9/11.

Terrorists and the United Nations stand together in the wake of a terror attack where innocent Americans were slaughtered.

Diagnosing the psychology behind the deadly refusal to accept reality.

First of all, I don’t care about the psychology of the Boston jihadists – whether the older one put pressure on the younger one, etc. All we need to know is that they were jihadists, and therefore our enemy. Period.

What I do find myself preoccupied by is the psychology of those Americans who, even before the perpetrators were identified, hoped against hope that they weren’t Muslims – and who, after the perpetrators were identified, were quick to assure us that Islam had nothing to do with it. Or who argued that, even if the brothers were motivated by Islam, that little detail doesn’t matter, and we shouldn’t focus on it.

I’m fascinated by the mindset of those who sought to obscure the vital moral distinctions in this case by waxing philosophical about such matters as the complexity of human character and the power of history. For example, David Remnick, in the New Yorker, described the Tsarnaev family as “battered by history…by empire and the strife of displacement, by exile and emigration.” Many commentators strove mightily to make the case that, in the final analysis, we’re all equally guilty and all equally victims.

Then there’s the repulsive U.N. hack Richard Falk, for whom the lesson of the Boston bombings is that “self-scrutiny and mid-course reflections on America’s global role is long overdue.” There’s been a lot of that going around. And what about those who have preferred to see the brothers not as jihadists but as Chechen separatists, who were driven by an understandable, even noble, antagonism to Russian tyranny (and who had, apparently, somehow mistaken Boston for Moscow)?

And let’s not forget Salon’s Andrew O’Hehir, who insisted on Saturday, the day after the younger Tsarnaev was taken into custody, that “we still have no idea what role their religion and national background may or may not have played in motivating the crime.” These sentences from O’Hehir deserve to be quoted in full:

…it’s not entirely fair to suggest that Americans think one kid killed by a bomb in Boston is worth more than 12 kids killed in Afghanistan. It’s more that we live in a profoundly asymmetrical world, and the dead child in Boston is surprising in a way any number of dead children in Afghanistan, horrifyingly enough, are not. He lived in a protected zone, after all, a place that was supposed to be sealed off from history, isolated from the blood and turmoil of the world. But of course that was a lie.

What, exactly, is O’Hehir doing, or trying to do, here? He’s trying to shift our attention away from the jihadist murder of eight-year-old Martin Richard to children killed in Afghanistan – not the innumerable children killed by jihadists, of course, but those who die as the result of the actions of American soldiers at war. In short, O’Hehir wants to draw our attention away from a jihadist act on U.S. soil to American military actions abroad, the implied idea being that they are more or less comparable – although America’s crimes are, presumably, more extensive and thus more deplorable and more deserving of our attention than those committed by the Tsarnaevs.

O’Hehir doesn’t dare to suggest explicitly that the American military strike was twelve times morally worse than the jihadist act – but he doesn’t have to. The implication is there. Also present is the implication that the act of jihad was perhaps not in fact an act of jihad at all, but rather a (legitimate?) reaction to American acts abroad.

The subject of this passage from O’Hehir isn’t the malice of the jihadists – it’s the mendacity of American officialdom, lying to American citizens about their security. Lost is the fact that until 9/11 America was, in a very real sense, a “protected zone,” sealed off from the bloody, turmoil-filled history of the Old World. And that was a good thing: it was the reason why generations of immigrants left behind their own cultures and languages and centuries of family history in order to make a new start in the New World – to learn English, work hard, and contribute to America, all the while enjoying American freedom and security and an unprecedented opportunity to prosper. That was the American compact. And it’s this compact that these two jihadist immigrants betrayed. But instead of faulting them for this, O’Hehir condemns the compact itself as a damnable lie.

If I’m curious about the psychology of O’Hehir and his ilk, it’s because their brand of twisted thinking isn’t marginal. In a large and, I think, ever-growing segment of American society, it’s reflexive. It’s mainstream. Among urban types who view themselves as liberal-minded and sophisticated, it’s considered de rigueur to think this way about things like this. Certainly you’re obliged to think this way if you want to count on getting published in major establishment newspapers and at websites like Salon.

It’s necessary to fight jihad. But it’s equally necessary to fight this weed that has grown up among us – this decadent, despicable readiness to deny the reality of jihad, to relativize it, to make excuses for it, to blame it on us, on America.

These decadent characters take these positions, of course, because they’ve been marinated in multiculturalism and, in particular, have absorbed the all-important lesson that the great danger of our time is not Islam but the criticism thereof. Yet what made multiculturalism attractive to these people in the first place is that it’s tailor-made for spoiled, narcissistic grown children who don’t want to have adult enemies – that is, the kind of enemies who represent a real danger to them or that they might ever really have to fight. It’s tailor-made for people who cherish the notion of themselves as sensitive and understanding toward “The Other,” and whose enemies of choice are, basically, parental substitutes – people who draw clear moral distinctions, who talk about the need for security, and who make unequivocal assertions about the superiority of American freedom to Islamic tyranny.

Fighting the mental affliction – the terminal puerility – of the O’Hehirs may be even harder than fighting jihad itself. How do you repair a culture in which mature moral judgment and adult civic responsibility have systematically been replaced by childish, self-aggrandizing displays of “sensitivity”? How do you install a moral compass in a fully grown adult?

For that’s the problem, in essence: these people are missing certain working parts that are essential components of the civilized adult. First of all, they lack the imaginative capacity, and the sense of identification with their own country, to understand that the bombing in Boston wasn’t just an attack on the three people who died and the dozens others who were wounded, but was, in fact, an attack on them – and on their families and friends, their very lives, their children’s future. For all their mockery of America’s idea of itself as a “protected zone,” their supposed empathy for the jihadists is a luxury in which they’re able to indulge precisely because they think of themselves, consciously or not, as living in a “protected zone.” Like any baby in a crib, they feel safe, cocooned, impregnable – yet they don’t realize that the reason for this feeling of safety is that they’ve spent their lives in a country where the cops and the military have protected them from, well, people like the Tsarnaev brothers.

Like any child, they accept this protection as their due, their right. They take it for granted. But they don’t think of themselves as having any responsibility that accompanies this right – for example, a responsibility as citizens to the safety and well-being of the American people as a whole. No, as far as they can see, their only responsibility is to themselves. Indeed, if they can’t wrap their minds around the reality of the murderers’ dedication to the idea of jihad, and thus (in many cases) reject the possibility that it was indeed jihad that drove the Tsarnaevs to commit their heinous acts, it’s because they themselves don’t know what it means to be dedicated to anything outside of themselves – and to the preservation of their own self-image as sensitive, caring people who are too evolved to hate.

Yes, evolved. Yet of course, in reality, they’re the ones who are unevolved. Their relationship to adult moral responsibility is, again, that of small children. The case is hardly ambiguous: two “refugees” from horror and havoc were welcomed into a free country and given splendid educations and opportunities – and showed their gratitude by murdering and maiming innocents, including children, in service to a movement that seeks to crush freedom. In such a situation, any adult citizen of that free country should see very clearly where his obligations lie. To instead take this assault on one’s country as an opportunity to engage in self-indulgent moral preening and to defend and even glorify that freedom-crushing movement is, quite simply, the act of a moral infant.

There’s no question – as Robert Spencer, among others, has pointed out – that many of those who have so eager to exculpate the Tsarnaevs would have reacted very differently if they’d been, say, Christian extremists. Also worth noting is that, careful as they are to avoid saying anything potentially hurtful about the brothers or their religion, these purportedly sensitive souls haven’t hesitated to lash out viciously at those among us who insist on recognizing jihad as jihad. How to characterize this behavior, except as that of pampered, cosseted children who are terrified of the new bully at school but know they can backtalk their parents with impunity?

But why won't he condemn the monstrous attack?

In 2009, the Federal Bureau of Investigation gave its community leadership award to Mohamed Abdul-Azeez of the Sacramento Area League of Associated Muslims (SALAM) Islamic Center in California’s capital. Now the Egyptian-born imam has responded to the bombing of the Boston Marathon.

Abdul-Azeez told the Sacramento Bee that he posted on Facebook his “deepest condolences to the families of the victims of today’s explosions in Boston.” The eight-year-old victim could have been his son, whom he had considered taking to the event. The imam and his wife watched the news in tears, “but ever since this thing went down, I don’t want to have to apologize for any crime that’s been committed. I’m weary of having to deal with this pressure all the time, whenever something stupid happens in the world. I feel similar to a gun owner worried about gun laws all the time because people are shooting people, or a Jew who has to worry about the atrocities being committed in Israel.”

Steve Magagnini of the Bee asked Abdul-Azeez if he saw any connection between the Chechen suspects and “their so-called Muslim identity.”

“The whole thing has a fishy stench to it,” the imam said. “The story is riddled with inconsistencies.” Abdul Azeez said the imam at the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center told him that “those two kids” never attended a service there. They might have attended a smaller mosque in Cambridge, “but they are not masjid-going people.”

Further, “If the FBI has known about these guys for years and received intelligence about them from the Russians, how come they’ve been allowed to operate with impunity? And terrorists from Islamic traditions don’t run, don’t hide. They take a bullet in their chest. That’s been a very consistent pattern.”

Asked what he told his congregation, the imam responded, “I don’t want evil to control and define our discourse. An act of terrorism is not as widespread as the beautiful things and gestures of kindness people do daily. Don’t ignore the acts of evil, but don’t give them as much weight.”

Muslims “need to take our precautions, but we shouldn’t hide, for we are guilty of nothing!” Muslims “need to be going out more, visiting places more and engaging people.” Non-hijabi sisters should wear hijabs, mothers should shop for groceries and “students, time to organize those Islam awareness events on campus.” And “may God instill empathy, love and perseverance in everyone’s heart.”

The imam’s reference to the Boston “explosions,” implies it all might have been an accident. And “something stupid” is a curious description for a deliberate bombing that killed three, including the eight-year-old, and maimed many others.

Abdul-Azeez fails to name the “two kids,” implies that they are not real Muslims, and makes no effort to explain the alleged inconsistencies in the story. More significant is his observation that “terrorists from Islamic traditions don’t run, don’t hide.” So if the two kids had been genuine Islamic terrorists, they would have taken “a bullet in their chest” for the team.

The imam issues no specific condemnation of the attacks, which of course left him feeling like “a Jew who has to worry about the atrocities being committed in Israel.” All told, quite a performance for the medical doctor, who earned a degree in political science and history at Ohio State University and a master’s degree at the University of Chicago.

Mohamed Abdul-Azeez is not the only Islamic leader to be honored by the FBI. Last year the Bureau gave its community service award to Farruk Saeed, chairman of SALAM, which co-hosts events with CAIR.

What progressives want you to think about the Islamic terror in Boston.

You have to admire how, when it comes to pushing their agendas, the American left stays relentlessly on point. Nothing stalls, much less derails, their locomotive, not even a terrorist act on our own shores. As Mad Men’s adman extraordinaire Don Draper tells his clients, “If you don’t like the conversation, change it.” The left doesn’t like the current Boston bombing conversation because it’s about Islam, their partner in an unholy alliance; so they quite simply do everything in their power to change it. How? Let us count the ways.

Blaming the right. Immediately after last week’s Boston Marathon terrorism, the mainstream news media began speculating that right-wingers were behind the blasts. And by speculating, I mean demonizing, because that was the left-leaning media’s fervent intent – to not let the crisis go to waste, to cast suspicion upon the overlapping segments of society they are hell-bent on “otherizing,” to use their own terminology: law-abiding Tea Partiers, patriots, veterans, Republicans, the NRA, white people, Christians. A CNN analyst, to name only one example, focused the discussion on “right-wing extremists.” More blatantly, Salon put its hateful bigotry on display in an article entitled, incredibly, “Let’s hope the Boston Marathon bomber is a white American.”

Blame the NRA. Once the ongoing investigation revealed it to be beyond dispute that the terrorists weren’t Tea Partiers, the left didn’t miss a beat. Even while the remaining fugitive was still at large, MSNBC’s attack dog Lawrence O’Donnell shamelessly blamed the National Rifle Association for hindering the investigation by having lobbied to block a taggant “that would enable tracing of the purchase of gunpowder”:

The NRA’s effort to guarantee that America’s mass murderers are the best equipped mass murderers in the world is not limited to those who use automatic weapons and high capacity magazines. The NRA is also in the business of helping bombers get away with their crimes.

O’Donnell conveniently neglected to mention that an independent scientific ruling years ago had recommended, for various reasons, against the use of taggants.

Blame Guns. Along that same line, the left kept the conversation focused on their current obsession, gun control, since the terrorists used firearms in their shootout with police. Turns out – surprise! – they weren’t licensed firearm owners. This would seem to be strong evidence that gun control laws do little if anything to hinder criminals and terrorists; but the left isn’t the party of logic, so even though the terrorists used bombs to wreak their havoc, the left made it about guns: “Why does America lose its head over ‘terror’ but ignore its daily gun deaths?” the left-wing Guardian asks (note the scare quotes around “terror”). “US gun law bigger threat than terrorists,” claimed another editorial. “Terror in Boston: It’s About Guns, Not Bombs,” blathered a leftist professor at University of North Carolina.

Islam is Innocent. Another tack the left used is to claim simply that Islam is an irrelevant factor. The Atlantic posed this defiantly moronic question: “The Boston Bombers Were Muslim: So?” Chris Matthews, MSNBC’s longest-running embarrassment, actually said “What difference does it make why they did it, if they did it?” Imagine the spit-flecked accusations this hypocrite would be hurling if the perpetrators had been Christian. Imagine the broad brush the multiculturalist left, in their all their non-judgmental tolerance, would be using to smear everyone on the right.

Melissa Harris-Perry, the race-obsessed MSNBC host who says your children don’t belong to you, took the “Islam is irrelevant” argument a step further by claiming that any attempt to point toward the terrorists’ Muslim nature is “otherizing” them: “Given that they’re Chechen, given that they are literally Caucasian, our very sense of connection to them is this framed up notion of, like, Islam making them into something that is non-white,” she said inarticulately. What she’s getting at is that white Americans want to distance themselves from the terrorists by labeling them – framing them, as she puts it – as “something that is non-white,” hence Islam. First of all, Islam is not a race. Second, the only Americans who give a damn what color terrorists are are the left, because they want them to be white. Third, denial that the terrorists were carrying out violent jihad is simply a lie.

The terrorists are the victims. These kids weren’t radicalized by Islam and al Qaeda, this theory goes. They placed bombs that killed women and children because they couldn’t fit in, because they felt alienated from our racist, Islamophobic society. “To understand the Boston bombers,” mused a self-hating coward at Slate, “we need also to understand and be honest about ourselves, the ways in which we both take in and don’t take in people from other countries, the trickier side of the American dream.” “Expecting hospitality,” sympathized an American University professor, “they felt alienated and disillusioned, even with all of the opportunities and privileges available to them as citizens of this country.” Those poor terrorists. If only eight-year-old Martin Richard had made these privileged immigrants from war-torn Chechnya feel more welcome, perhaps they wouldn’t have blown him and others to smithereens.

We are the real terrorists. The reprehensible filmmaker Michael Moore tweeted that, because the terrorists turned out to be American citizens, “the rest of the world is safe now,” steering the conversation away from jihad’s central responsibility in worldwide terrorism and toward the suggestion that America is the world’s true terrorist. This echoes the very accusation leveled at us by our most hateful enemies, so Moore has once again proudly shown where his allegiance lies.

Like 9/11, the Beltway Snipers, the Ft. Hood massacre, the Little Rock recruiting center murder, and the dozens and dozens of failed or thwarted plots on American soil, the Boston bombing (and subsequent murder of a police officer) is about Islam. It’s about two radicalized Muslim-Americans, instructed by al Qaeda online, and probably assisted by co-conspirators. But the left is making it about gun control, about NRA obstructionism, about America herself alienating immigrants, about whites “otherizing” Muslim innocents, about any message that furthers their nihilistic agendas, because the left knows how to never lose control of the narrative – a lesson the right would do well to absorb and emulate.

How our willful blindness creates a terrain where jihadists are free to plot and kill.

Means, opportunity and motive are the three crucial elements of investigating a crime and establishing the guilt of its perpetrator. Many crimes cannot be narrowed down by motive until a suspect is on the scene; but acts of terrorism can be. Almost anyone might be responsible for a random killing; but political killings are carried out by those who subscribe to common beliefs.

Eliminate motive from terrorism and it becomes no different than investigating a random killing. If investigators are not allowed to profile potential terrorists based on shared beliefs rooted in violence, that makes it harder to catch terrorists after an act of terror and incredibly difficult before the act of terror takes place.

Investigations consist of connecting the dots. If you can’t conceive of a connection, then the investigation is stuck. If you can’t make the leap from A to B or add two to two and get four, then you are dependent on lucky breaks. And lucky breaks go both ways. Sometimes investigators get lucky and other times the terrorists get lucky.

Federal law enforcement was repeatedly warned by the Russians that Tamerlan Tsarnaev was dangerous, but operating under the influence of a political culture that refused to see Islam as a motive for terrorism, it failed to connect the dots between Chechen violence in Russia and potential terrorism in the United States, and because it could not see Islam as a motive, it could find no reason why Tamerlan was a threat not just to Russia, but also to the United States.

The missing motive factor has led to a rash of lone wolf terrorists whose acts are classified as individual crimes. Nidal Hasan’s killing spree at Fort Hood was put down to workplace violence, but workplace violence isn’t a motive; it’s a bland description. The motive was there in Hasan’s background and his behavior; but the military, an organization that by its nature has to be able to predict the actions of the enemy, had been crippled and left unable to see Islam as a motive.

The current working concept is that by refusing to allow our military and law enforcement to identify Islam as a motive, we are stifling terrorist recruitment by preventing Muslims from identifying terrorist attacks with Islam. This ostrich theory of terror assumes that if we blind ourselves to the motives of the terrorists, then potential terrorists will likewise be blinded to their own motives.

Any law enforcement protocol that prevents investigators from understanding the motives of the killers in the hope that this will take away that motive from the killers is absurdly backward. The investigators of terror are not the instigators of terror. A police detective arresting a rapist does not create rape. An FBI agent arresting a terrorist does not create terror. Identifying a crime does not create the crime. It makes it easier for law enforcement and the public to fight that crime.

The insidious infiltration of blowback theory into terrorist investigations has dangerously subverted the ability of investigators to get to the truth and to catch the terrorists. Blowback theory assigns each act of Islamic terror an origin point in our actions. Everything that Muslim terrorists do is caused by something that we did. To those who believe in this linkage, the only way to fight Muslim terror is to stop inspiring it. The only way to defeat Islamic terrorism is to defeat ourselves.

Blowback theory has been dressed up in academic language and expert jargon, but all it amounts to is Stockholm Syndrome with a lecture hall. Its essential postulate is that if we become more passive in our responses, a strategy that is usually described with the complementary term, “smart”, as in “smart war” and “smart investigation”, then the enemy will become more passive in response to our passivity.

Smart wars and smart investigations are those that don’t offend Muslims. The cost of the smart war in Afghanistan has been a very expensive and bloody defeat. The cost of the smart investigation can be seen in the streets of Boston or in Fort Hood.

Defeating ourselves in order to defeat Islamic terrorism is a dead end because we are not the source of that terrorism; we are its target. When we handicap ourselves out of a misguided notion that the best way to fight terrorism is with one hand tied behind our backs and an eyepatch on one eye, then Americans die.

Without Islam as a motive, there is no way to fight the larger threat except as a discrete collection of seemingly random events. What connects a Tamerlan Tsarnaev to a Nidal Hasan to Ahmed in Jersey City or Mohamed in Minneapolis plotting the next attack? The official answer is nothing. One was a boxer and another was an army doctor and the third is just an Egyptian student or a Somali bank clerk. They have no motive in common except that of Islam.

Media accounts have presented various exculpatory motives for Tamerlan Tsarnaev ranging from the possible head injuries he may have suffered as a boxer to the murder of a best friend that investigators suspect he may have carried out. All these motives are irrelevant, not because they may not have some figment of truth to them, but because they stopped mattering once he became what he was.

The Islamic terrorist abandons his individuality and his motives become no longer personal, but collective. To strive to understand him as a father or a son, as a boxer or a doctor, is a waste of time. These biographical footnotes no longer represent him. They are the things he has discarded to become a messenger of death in obedience to a faith that values death more than life.

Without understanding that, the terrorist becomes a cipher, another nice young man who suddenly turned violent, and the trend of terrorist attacks ceases to be a pattern and becomes a rash of horrifying incidents that can happen at any time. If Tamerlan and Dzhokar Tsarnaev had not carried out their attack at a public event in the age of the ubiquitous camera, then how long would law enforcement have chased down dead ends or searched for the Tea Party tax protesters that the political establishment expected them to find?

Without a motive, there is no place to begin searching. Without Islam, there is no motive. Terrorism denial isn’t just an intellectual error; it is a grave danger to the lives of Americans.

Terrorism denial created a space in which the Tsarnaev brothers were free to plot and kill. Terrorism denial cost the lives of three Americans and the bodily integrity of hundreds of others. Denying the Islamic motive for terror, makes it harder for law enforcement officer to do their job and easier for Muslim terrorists to do theirs.
