What the statistics really say.

In an era where public debate is replete with Big Lies, we are routinely treated to examples of shallow, insipid journalism dedicated to propping up the most nonsensical fictions imaginable. A case in point is a piece that appeared in the far-left periodical Mother Jones, titled “Exactly How Often Do Police Shoot Unarmed Black Men?” Purporting to explain the root causes of the racial unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, the article’s author, Mother Jones editorial coordinator Jaeah Lee, presents a smattering of statistics—utterly devoid of context or analysis—as evidence that “the killing of Michael Brown by police … was no anomaly.”

For instance, Lee cites a 2007 study which found that in ten major cities “there were a disproportionately high number of African Americans among police shooting victims,” and another which concluded that “black people are more likely than whites or Hispanics to experience a police officer’s threat or use of force.” To buttress these allegations, the author quotes Missouri ACLU official Jeffrey Mittman’s lamentation that “unarmed African-American men are shot and killed by police at an alarming rate,” and NAACP president Cornell Williams Brooks’ claim that a destructive “culture of policing” is “rubbing salt into longstanding racial wounds” by targeting black people with “overwhelmingly major, often lethal … force.”

Apparently it never occurred to Ms. Lee, or to these other voices in her echo chamber, that there might be some significance in the fact that blacks, who are 13% of the U.S. population, themselves commit many more homicides than white and Hispanic perpetrators—combined. Young black males in particular commit homicide at nearly ten times the combined rate of their white and Hispanic counterparts. As Manhattan Institute scholar Heather Mac Donald explains, “That astronomically higher homicide-commission rate means that police officers are going to be disproportionately in black neighborhoods to fight crime, where they will more likely encounter armed shooting suspects.” Blacks nationwide are also dramatically overrepresented in the commission of other serious crimes such as rape, robbery, and assault—precisely the types of offenses most likely to trigger a confrontation with police that could result in a fatality.

In her Mother Jones piece, Ms. Lee devotes considerable attention to New York City, where “more black people have been shot by NYPD officers … than have Hispanics or whites.” But this begs an obvious question: “So what?” The same principle that applies to the United States as a whole, applies also to New York: While blacks constitute 23% of the city’s population, they commit two-thirds of all its violent crimes, including nearly 70% of all robberies and 80% of all shootings. And whites, who are 35% of the city’s population, commit just 5% of its violent crimes and a mere 1.8% of its shootings. Thus, blacks are statistically far more likely to be involved in volatile situations demanding police intervention. It’s really not very complicated.

The Mother Jones article also presents a chart with a racial breakdown of those who were shot and killed by New York City police between 2000 and 2011. Yet remarkably, the author makes no mention of the glaring fact that instances of police-on-Asian shootings are nearly invisible in this chart—indeed, blacks, Hispanics, and whites alike are far more likely than Asians to be shot in police encounters. What could explain this? If we were to apply Ms. Lee’s line of reasoning, we’d have no choice but to conclude that New York police officers, for some reason, feel less racial animus against Asians than they feel against everyone else. A more realistic explanation is that Asians in the city have very low crime rates and thus have comparatively little contact with police.

The most comprehensive information we have on the issue of police shootings and race in recent years comes from a 2011 Bureau of Justice Statistics study that covers the period from 2003 to 2009. Of all suspects who are known to have been killed by law-enforcement officers during that time frame, 41.7% were white, 31.7% were black, and 20.3% were Hispanic. Also during that period, blacks accounted for about 38.5% of all arrests for violent crimes—i.e., the types of crimes most likely to lead to a potentially fatal confrontation with police. These numbers do not in any way suggest a lack of restraint by police in their dealings with black suspects. On the contrary, they suggest the exact opposite.

Funny how the real world rarely conforms to the certainties of the race-obsessed Left, isn’t it?

New York City returns to the bad old days.

Police nationwide are feeling unsupported by elected officials and government – and that is simply awful and terrible. Nationwide, in the great United States of America, thanks should be constant to heroic police officers who risk their lives to keep us safe.

In America’s biggest city, New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio has not been supportive of the police department. As Sergeant Ed Mullins, President of the Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) of the NYPD said this week when calling for the 2016 Democratic National Convention to not come to New York City,

The Mayor has provided a public platform to the loudest of the city’s anti-safety agitators, instead of giving voice to the millions of New Yorkers who want to live and work in safety. Why would you kowtow to demagogues who push a political agenda? Do you really think people in the city care more about politics than quality of life?

Mullins noted,

The degradation of our streets is on the rise. As reported widely in the media, shootings have increased by 13% percent citywide since last year. At the same time, the squeegee people are reappearing on the streets, and aggressive panhandlers and con-men are populating the subways and Times Square. Why? Because diminished support for police officers translates directly into crime spikes and drops in quality of life. And right now the number of cops on the streets is insufficient to address the city’s growing problems. The NYPD is understaffed and overworked, and underpaid. Morale among police officers is low, and there are few signs that it will get better any time soon. Our Mayor can’t be a leader in the fight against crime without supporting his police force.

While perhaps it is baffling that countless elected officials blame the police constantly, perhaps the answer as to why comes from former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani who said some months ago that the lack of support for our boys in blue “comes more from this very left-wing ideology, which is an anti-police ideology.”

Being a police officer is a very difficult job – it has to be so much harder when people do not feel the support of elected officials and government – the very people who should be supporting law and order.

Mullins noted that when De Blasio “ran for office last year, he spoke of a ‘Tale of Two Cities.’ Indeed, the City is heading toward a very real division: one part of the city consisting of citizens who respect the rule of law, and the other led by anti-safety political opportunists and blowhards pursuing a personal and political agenda.” People want safety – not politics.

Police officers wake up, do their jobs and go home to their families. Nothing is perfect in anyone’s life – or profession – and unfortunately in law enforcement mistakes happen. That doesn’t mean that elected officials can throw the baby out with the bathwater. Police officers remain committed to enforcing the law and improving the quality of life of Americans nationwide.

As a native New Yorker, I remember a different city. There was crime, violence, squeegee men and drug pushers on every corner. New York needs strong law and order in this concrete jungle which I love so much. Police officers remain committed to making cities safe – and elected officials must stand side by side with them. Supporting the police department should not be a political decision.

The remarkable statistics on police shootings and race.

Sunday in New York City, Al Sharpton led at least 2,500 marchers in a rally condemning “a society where police are automatically excused” for wrongdoing. At issue was the recent death of Eric Garner, a black New Yorker who resisted arrest and subsequently died from what a medical examiner described as an interplay between a white police officer’s chokehold and Garner’s multiple chronic infirmities. A featured speaker at Sunday’s demonstration was the mother of Amadou Diallo, a black man who was killed in a 1999 shooting by four NYPD officers. “Police cannot judge our sons and execute them for no reason,” she declared.

Yesterday, Sharpton spoke at the funeral of Michael Brown, the black teenager who was recently shot and killed by a white policeman in Missouri. Claiming that the police had callously treated Brown “like his life value didn’t matter,” Sharpton called on the congregation to help “change this country.” Indeed, Sharpton has vowed to turn Brown’s death into a “defining moment on how this country deals with policing.” His contention is that too many African Americans are being unjustifiably killed in the streets by white police. If he’s correct, then we’ve got a monumental national scandal on our hands that surely deserves to be addressed. So let’s examine the facts and see what they tell us.

The most comprehensive information we have on this issue comes from a landmark 51-page report published by the Bureau of Justice Statistics in 2001. This study examined incidents where police used deadly force to kill criminal suspects during the 23-year period from 1976 through 1998.[1] The study did not distinguish between whites and Hispanics,[2] but instead categorized all members of those two demographics as “white.” So, for the moment, let’s refer to this group as “W&H” (Whites & Hispanics) rather than “whites.”

During the course of the entire 23-year period examined in the study, 56% of all suspects killed by police were W&H, and 42% were black.

Over time, W&H constituted an ever-increasing percentage of those who were killed by police: In 1978, they accounted for 50% of all such killings. By 1988 that figure had climbed to 59%, and by 1998 it stood at 62%.

Meanwhile, the trend for African Americans was moving in precisely the opposite direction: In 1978, black suspects were 49% of those killed by police. By 1988, that figure had fallen to 39%. And ten years after that, it stood at 35%.

Most cases where police killed suspects during 1976-98 were same-race incidents: When W&H officers were the killers, the suspects were usually W&H (63%). And when black officers were the killers, the suspects were usually black (81%).

In 1998 specifically, 3.2 out of every 10,000 black officers killed a black suspect sometime that year, whereas only 1.4 out of every 10,000 W&H officers killed a black suspect.

Also in 1998, about 2.8 out of every 10,000 W&H officers killed a W&H suspect sometime that year—double the rate at which W&H officers killed black suspects.

To fill in the data from more recent years, we must turn to a 2011 Bureau of Justice Statistics study which covers the period from 2003 to 2009. Unlike the earlier study, this one does distinguish between whites and Hispanics.[3] Of all suspects who are known to have been killed by police during the 7-year time frame, 41.7% were white, 31.7% were black, and 20.3% were Hispanic.

It is also worth noting that during the 2003-2009 period—when blacks were 31.7% of all suspects killed by an officer—blacks accounted for about 38.5% of all arrests for violent crimes, which are the types of crimes most likely to trigger a confrontation with police that could result in a fatality.[4] These numbers do not in any way suggest a lack of restraint by police in their dealings with black suspects. On the contrary, they suggest the opposite.

The bottom line is this: Evidence of systemic racism in police shootings simply doesn’t exist. Anywhere.

But Al Sharpton and his ideological ilk have no use for facts like these. For Sharpton, the corpses of Michael Brown and Eric Garner are merely props to be exploited for the purpose of advancing the singular agenda he has had for more than 30 years, which is to convince as many people as possible that America is, and always has been, an inherently racist wasteland that needs to be fundamentally transformed—economically, politically, and socially. The facts of any specific case are irrelevant to Sharpton. For him, everything is about the larger agenda.

Nor is this anything new for Sharpton. Way back when this utterly pathetic individual was immersed in his equally pathetic Tawana Brawley “rape” hoax, one of his closest aides, Perry McKinnon—a former police officer, private investigator, and hospital security director—revealed the following: “Sharpton acknowledged to me early on that ‘the [Brawley] story do sound like bullsh**, but it don’t matter. We’re building a movement. This is the perfect issue. Because you’ve got whites on blacks. That’s an easy way to stir up all the deprived people … and all [you've] got to do is convince them that all white people are bad. Then you’ve got a movement.’”[5]

A quarter-century later, nothing—absolutely nothing—has changed.

NOTES:

[1] All calendar years from 1976 through 1998 are counted, thus 23 separate calendar years are included in the study. All told, approximately 8,578 suspects were killed by police during those 23 years. The annual totals ranged from a low of 296 to a high of 459. Data for a small handful of states is missing from this study, but the vast majority of police killings nationwide were counted.
[2] “Hispanics” is a broad and nebulous term referring, generally, to people whose heritage can be traced to Spanish-speaking countries. The term was concocted for political purposes in 1970 by the Nixon administration. For an excellent explanation of the term’s origins and its subsequent ramifications, click here.
[3] The data in this study are not entirely comprehensive, because not every U.S. state reported its overall statistics in every year that was examined. Nevertheless, the ratios uncovered in the report are highly illuminating.

How politicians' police-bashing empowers criminals.

New York City could not have a more polarizing figure sit upon its doorstep than Rev. Al Sharpton coming from a glitzy, gated community in New Jersey. As “stalker in chief,” Sharpton pours his acid upon the busy streets of NYC and elsewhere in what used to be the safest big city in America. Sharpton’s history of tearing communities apart is now legendary across the nation, as residents are left to pick up the pieces, put out the flames and replenish inventories of stolen goods.

Yet here in Queens County in a quiet cutout called home by hard working residents, NYC Councilman Rory Lancman seems to want to align himself with Mayor de Blasio’s Al Sharpton, and continue to debase the historic successes of the NYPD. How Lancman’s constituents benefit from his unwarranted attack on the police is questionable at best. His actions as a city councilman are irresponsible to be sure.

Lancman has no horse in the race of the racially divisive overtones and temper tantrums of race baiter Al Sharpton. But Lancman nevertheless seeks to align himself with the harsh rhetoric of this community trouble maker and professional agitator. The councilman cites a 40-year-old study written up in The Atlantic as evidence to back up his shallow claim that the “broken windows” theory doesn’t work. While Lancman ties the knot with Sharpton, one can only wonder how this is sitting with the taxpayers of Lancman’s district, which includes Fresh Meadows, Briarwood, Hillcrest, Jamaica Hills, Jamaica Estates, and Kew Garden Hills. What about the ongoing related criminal justice costs we all have to shoulder because of Sharpton and company’s antics to disrupt New York City and the nation?

We invite the community to take a look and see how the crime numbers in your community are silently and quietly creeping up. We invite you to see how in “key” communities (some of the poorest areas of the city), where violence has historically been raw and uncontrolled, we now have deadly, dangerous shooting incidents and shooting victims climbing upwards. In some cases a 1500% increase, and overall, citywide incidents of shootings are up 12%. Grand Larceny Auto was once the defining downward force for substantial decreases for years — not so much anymore. Check what’s happening in your part of town.

Signs of the past coming back are all in place with de Blasio and Lancman trashing the police at every opportunity they get. What do we the community get? We get historic increases of police officers being injured in the line of duty; the likes of which we have not seen in almost 20 years. An emboldened criminal element, more violent streets and communities wondering when is it going to hit us next?

How did we become the safest big city in America today? Well, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton could tell you: It’s all about addressing the minor problems in a community. Bratton would say it’s by not letting things get out of hand. The Commissioner would talk about dampening the appetite for committing a crime within the criminal element in our society and how they used to count on the police looking the other way, not addressing those little things. You could hear Bratton’s words echo and ring as he sat at a table this past month with Mayor de Blasio and Rev. Al Sharpton. The only problem was that at that meeting de Blasio was twisting and turning Bratton’s words 180 degrees with a decade of police executives shaking their heads in utter disbelief.

What is the “broken windows” theory and why should you, as a resident of the community, care? Broken windows is a theory that says if you pay attention to small things such as petty crime, it will not grow into a larger problem such as serious violent crime. This includes addressing community plagues like graffiti on stores, walls and our parkways, low level street trading, the selling of pirated movies and software, panhandlers, squeegee men, street narcotics, vagrants, untaxed cigarettes and alcohol, prostitution, broken car windows, stolen auto tires and rims, auto computer systems, repairing cars in the street, double parking, disorderly conduct, street fighting, and a whole lot more. These are the things that eat away at our civil order and stable society — order maintenance in the community.

Lancman would apparently like to see a return of petty crime. We wonder how this would play out in Glen Oaks where stealing tires, rims and more is getting to be a common experience. On 73rd Avenue, 188th Street, Utopia Blvd, Union Turnpike and other areas in not only Lancman’s district but others as well, cars are being “keyed,” tires slashed and windows broken and noise out of control. His constituents should let him know about their “quality of life” and just how important it may be to them, our senior citizens, our residents attending religious services as we go from dusk to dark, as we board trains and buses during all hours of the day and night. New York residents need to remember what life in the city was like when crime was out of control, in order to really appreciate where we need to be both today and in the future.

We can’t yet call this Bill de Blasio’s “2014 Summer of Death.” But as shootings and shooting victims skyrocket out of control, we can cite escalating violence on the streets of NYC, in taxicabs, NYC housing developments, and compare that with the overall success of crime strategies employed in NYC for the past 20 years wherein over 7,700 human lives were saved because of the hard work of the men and women of the NYPD.

No discussion of crime in NYC would be complete without addressing NYC Local Law 71, which was better known last year as the Community Safety Act. This law sought to address alleged constitutional violations by NYPD in the now totally misunderstood stop, question and frisk policy which originates from the NYS Criminal Procedure Law.

The Community Safety Act uniquely puts NYC police officers in the crosshairs of professional agitators such as Al Sharpton. Prior to the implementation of this law, Sharpton and his ilk had to deal with the NYC Law Department to settle what some would call “dialing for dollars” as they brought suit and filed claims against police officers in the City of New York. The Law Department was well known for settling cases and setting up a cash cow for plaintiffs. Now because of Local Law 71, police officers have to represent themselves with privately hired lawyers. Police officers who are fighting to keep their homes, pay the education for their children and put food on the table, now have to weigh how to respond to street criminals and thugs because anyone can now file suit against a police officer as an individual. It should come as no surprise that the number of stop, question and frisks in the entire City of New York have collapsed from hundreds of thousands a year to less than 20,000. Likewise, the numbers of guns taken off the streets have been drastically reduced. The stop, question and frisks were an important component of the city’s nationally acclaimed CompStat program. CompStat is a statistical program which puts the data of crime and subsequent actions of police officers on an electronic pin map. Police executives are held to account for their crime fighting strategies’ effectiveness and overall crime reduction.

CompStat is a National Institute of Justice award-winning program to fight crime in communities near and far. The program works, and its successes can be seen all over the nation as well as right here in NYC where it was developed. The program places performance demands and measurement of activities taken by police personnel. This program “properly managed” can work, but it requires resources and intensive training by all ranks within any policing agency.

If NYC could be found at fault for anything, it would be the lack of training and professional development of its personnel in properly carrying out this aspect of police operations. The NYC Council can be found equally at fault for its failure in oversight. The Council has the duty and the obligation to correct these legal violations. However, by design they sought to limit and handcuff the police rather than improve the professional development which these hard-working men and women need and for the subsequent delivery of services to the visitors, residents and citizens of New York City.

While City Councilman Lancman may take some comfort in bashing the police, the NYPD as a whole or in part, he would do well to educate himself and his constituents to obey the law and encourage others to do the same, to engage with local police commanders and personnel. The police need the community in order to be effective and the community expects that police officers solve crimes, expedite the flow of traffic and bring “order” to our civilized society. Police operations are imperfect and at best sometimes the absolute last thing anyone wants. But it’s all in a day’s work.

The NYPD is the agency of last resort and when everything else isn’t working people like you and I call for the police. When hearing the harshness of any politician’s rhetoric, remember it is a police officer who will defend your right to speak your mind. It is a police officer who will protect you from unwanted intrusions; it is a police officer who will guide you into safety when no one else seems to care. Councilman Lancman, there are 7,700 New Yorkers alive and walking the face of this earth today because a New York City Police Officer cared enough for those they don’t even know to uphold the law and civility in our society.

Life under Bill De Blasio's anti-police agenda.

The death of Eric Garner in Staten Island, New York City has attracted tabloid headlines for days. His death is undoubtedly a tragedy. Thankfully, in the midst of a New York City summer there hasn’t yet been any violence or anarchy as a result. As a 39-year old born and bred New Yorker, I remember the racial fears that existed in this city when I was growing up. Who can forget the racial politics of the ‘80’s and ‘90’s which today seem like so long ago?

Abner Louima & the Crown Heights Riots? I remember so clearly being at Stuyvesant High School and school ending early in 1991 when the Rodney King riots erupted – and how the city was gripped with fear. How I remember dreading my 1.5 hour train rides on the graffiti-filled subways. All New Yorkers should be thankful to Rudy Giuliani – Mr. Law & Order – who forever changed NYC for the better with his zero tolerance mantra.

One area in which he didn’t excel was in race relations. Racial tensions, however, in many ways changed with Mayor Bloomberg who was less confrontational than his predecessor. Bloomberg – along with Police Commissioner Ray Kelly – regularly dialogued with the minority community, and as a December 2013 Washington Post editorial proclaimed, Bloomberg ushered in the best race relations in decades. As has been widely reported, Reverend Al Sharpton received a call from Bloomberg the night he was elected, and was told:

“Hello, this is Michael Bloomberg. I want you to know it will be different with me as mayor. We will not agree on everything, but you will have access to City Hall.”

Like it or not, Bloomberg’s strategy worked for New Yorkers. The economy boomed, the quality of life improved across the city and crime hit all-time lows. The equilibrium of balance which is always sensitive in this area worked.

This month sees the first major potential for chaos in the era with an uber-liberal Mayor Bill DeBlasio occupying City Hall. This week has seen sparing protests – amidst an announcement by Sharpton to march to the spot where Garner died over the Verrazano Bridge on August 23rd. Rev. Al’s former chief of Staff now works for the Mayor’s wife – who is herself a powerful force in NYC government. Yet, clearly the need to make noise outside isn’t quite the same with ones’ interests being represented in government.

In New York, however, the police need to be given more credit. Our heroic boys in blue are slighted – as Patrick Lynch, the president of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, said recently that police officers feel they have no officials right now in NY government. Lynch noted that “.. the City Council is not looking out for you, there’s not a voice from City Hall looking out for you.”

A recent editorial in The NY Post noted that he shows “ boorish elitism toward the dangerous work of policing.” The editorial continued that the Mayor’s heart is “..not with those who risk their lives to keep us safe,” and continued to say that “de Blasio is still riding an anti-police agenda.”

With power comes responsibility to govern an entire city – and standing on the side of the police is vital for this city. The cops keep us safe, and decisions made inside the halls of power must not alienate them. So much is going right in NYC. The Disneyfication of NY has seen so many positive things – including the reduction of racial tensions.

Let’s hope that Mayor DeBlasio remembers that he needs to hear all of New York for the city to be effective.

Spelling out the absurd implications of an absurd theory.

The idea of “white privilege” has made the news recently. The truth, though, is that it has been a fetish of leftist academics for quite some time.

“White privilege,” as one sage puts it, “is a form of racism” that’s “predicated on preserving the privileges”—by which he means the “social and economic benefits”—of whites. Because “white privilege” is maintained via “hegemonic structures, practices, and ideologies,” individual whites “do not necessarily intend to hurt people of color,” even though “they inevitably do.”

So, white privilege is all about “preserving the privileges of white people” by way of those white privilege-producing things that “reproduce whites’ privileged status.”

That the definition of “white privilege” is rigged from the outset to paint all whites as victimizers and all non-whites (particularly blacks) as victims can be seen by its viciously circular reasoning. But it is also, necessarily, highly abstract. Once we make concrete its implications, however, its ridiculousness is exposed.

Statistically, blacks, say, have far higher rates of criminality than do whites. This, it is held, is a legacy of “racism” or “white privilege.” Of course, raw numbers in and of themselves go zero distance in establishing anything. Inter-racial statistical disparities no more signify injustice than does the fact that there are statistical disparities between the rates at which men and women are struck by lightning indicate injustice.

Back in 2000, Reginald and Jonathan Carr, two black brothers, beat, tortured, sexually humiliated, and robbed five white victims: Jason Befort, Brad Heyka, Aaron Sander, Heather Muller, and a woman known only as H.G. The Carrs repeatedly raped the women before shooting all five of their prey in the backs of their heads and driving over their bodies in a stolen pick-up truck. H.G. was the lone survivor.

If the theory of “white privilege” is true, then the Carrs are the real victims and those whose lives they destroyed are the victimizers, for in the absence of “white privilege,” the Carrs would have been decent, law-abiding citizens.

In 2007, in Nashville, Tennessee, a young white couple, Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom, were out on a date. They were carjacked, abducted, raped, and murdered by five blacks. Newsom was sodomized and shot. His body was wrapped and set on fire. Christian was raped anally, orally, and vaginally. She was forced to ingest bleach to remove traces of her assailants’ DNA and stuffed alive in garbage bags. Over the span of hours, she gradually suffocated to death.

If the theory of “white privilege” is true, these black criminals are the real victims and those whites whose lives they destroyed were actually the victimizers, for in the absence of “white privilege,” these black rapist murderers would have been decent, law-abiding citizens.

Last summer, Delby “Shorty” Benton, an 89-year-old white World War II veteran, was jumped and beaten to death by two black teenagers in Seattle.

If the theory of “white privilege” is true, then Benton’s murderers are the real victims and this WWII hero was the victimizer, for in the absence of “white privilege,” these thugs would’ve been decent, law-abiding citizens.

On Christmas Eve 2010, in Houston, a 12-year-old white boy, Jonathan Foster, was kidnapped, bound, and killed by way of a blowtorch courtesy of a 44-year-old black woman, Mona Nelson. His remains were discarded in a ditch along the side of a road.

If the theory of “white privilege” is true, then Nelson was the real victim and young Foster was the victimizer, for in the absence of “white privilege,” Nelson would’ve been a decent, law-abiding citizen.

Last year, a 99-year-old white woman, Fannie Gumbinger, was greeted by a 20-year-old black male intruder in her Poughkeepsie, New York home. Gumbinger was subsequently murdered. Police say she died of “multiple injuries.”

If the theory of “white privilege” is true, then the black man who beat Gumbinger to death was the real victim and Gumbinger was the victimizer, for in the absence of “white privilege,” this robber and murderer would’ve been a decent, law-abiding citizen.

In my hometown of Trenton, New Jersey, back in 1992, black career criminal Ambrose Harris carjacked Kristin Huggins, a young white female. Harris carjacked Huggins, and while she pleaded with him not to deprive her of her virginity, he sodomized her. While begging for her life, Harris put a bullet in the back of Huggins’ head and left her body in a shallow grave.

If the theory of “white privilege” is true, then Harris is the real victim and Huggins is the victimizer, for in the absence of “white privilege,” Harris would’ve been a decent, law-abiding citizen.

The 18th century philosopher David Hume remarked that many an absurd theory has taken refuge behind high levels of abstraction.

To this list we can add the theory of “white privilege,” surely one of the most absurd positions of them all.

How the entire learning atmosphere is effected by university rape hysteria.

There seems to be a full-court press on to get colleges to “do something” about rape on campus.

But there seems to be remarkably little attention paid to two crucial facts: (1) rape is a crime and (2) colleges are not qualified to be law-enforcement institutions.

Why are rapists not reported to the police and prosecuted in a court of law?

Apparently this is because of some college women who say that they were raped and are dissatisfied with a legal system that does not automatically take their word for it against the word of someone who has been accused and denies the charge.

There seem to be a dangerously large number of people who think that the law exists to give them whatever they want — even when that means denying other people the same rights that they claim for themselves.

Nowhere is this self-centered attitude more common than on college campuses. And nowhere are such attitudes more encouraged than by the Obama administration’s Justice Department, which is threatening colleges that don’t handle rape issues the politically correct way — that is, by presuming the accused to be guilty and not letting Constitutional safeguards get in the way.

Anything that fits the “war on women” theme is seen as smart politics in an election year. The last thing Attorney General Eric Holder’s Justice Department is interested in is justice.

The track record of academics in other kinds of cases is not the least bit encouraging as regards the likelihood of impartial justice. Even on many of our most prestigious college campuses, who gets punished for saying the wrong thing and who gets away with mob actions depends on which groups are in vogue and which are not.

This is carried to the point where some colleges have established what they call “free speech zones” — as if they are granting a special favor by not imposing their vague and arbitrary “speech codes” everywhere on campus.

The irony in this is that the Constitution already established a free speech zone. It covers the entire United States.

Have we already forgotten the lynch mob atmosphere on the Duke University campus a few years ago, when three young men were accused of raping a stripper?

Thank heaven that case was handled by the criminal justice system, where all the evidence showed that the charge was bogus, leading to the district attorney’s being removed and disbarred.

If all the current crusades to institutionalize lynch law on campuses across the country were motivated by a zeal to protect young women, that might at least be understandable, however unjustified.

But those who are whipping up the lynch mob mentality have shown far less interest in stopping rape than in politicizing it.

Many of the politically correct crusaders are the same people who have pushed for unisex living arrangements on campus, including unisex bathrooms, and who have put condom machines in dormitories and turned freshman orientation programs into a venue for sexual “liberation” propaganda.

They laughed at old-fashioned restrictions designed to reduce sexual dangers among young people on campus. Now that real life experience has shown that these are not laughing matters, the politically correct still want their sexual Utopia, and want scapegoats when they don’t get it.

There is a price to pay for allowing unsubstantiated accusations to prevail, and that price extends beyond particular young men whose lives can be ruined by false charges. The whole atmosphere of learning is compromised when male faculty have to protect themselves from accusations by female students.

People today are amazed when I tell them about a young African woman who had just arrived in America back in 1963, and who was so overwhelmed by everything that she fell far behind in my economics class. I met with her each evening for an hour of tutoring until she caught up with the rest of the class.

There is no way that I would do that today, and there is no way that she would have passed that class otherwise. Instead, she would have returned to Africa a failure. There are many unintended consequences of lynch law policies that poison the atmosphere on campus and diminish American life in general.

Democrats' new plans to monitor hate speech and racial bias in law enforcement.

Two Democratic Congressman and Attorney General Eric Holder are spearheading equally disturbing efforts to monitor and control the behavior of Americans—even if the Constitution and the truth get trashed in the process.

Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) have introduced a bill known as the The Hate Crime Reporting Act of 2014. It would require a relatively obscure government agency, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), to “update a report on the use of telecommunications, including the Internet in the commission of hate crimes.”

“We have recently seen in Kansas the deadly destruction and loss of life that hate speech can fuel in the United States, which is why it is critical to ensure the Internet, television and radio are not encouraging hate crimes or hate speech that is not outside the protection of the First Amendment,” said Senator Markey. “Over 20 years have passed since I first directed the NTIA to review the role that telecommunications play in encouraging hate crimes. My legislation would require the agency to update this critical report for the 21st century.”

Jeffries heartily concurred. “The Internet has proven to be a tremendous platform for innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. However, at times it has also been used as a place where vulnerable persons or groups can be targeted,” he said. “I commend Senator Markey for his longstanding leadership with respect to combating Hate Crimes in America. He understands that in the digital era it is important to comprehensively evaluate the scope of criminal and hateful activity on the Internet that occurs outside of the zone of First Amendment protection. With the introduction of Senator Markey’s bill, we have taken a substantial step toward addressing this issue.”

As it is with so many leftist agendas, it remains up to the bureaucrats at the NTIA to determine what constitutes unacceptable speech that falls outside the purview of First Amendment protections. The bill leaves such interpretations up to the Justice Department (DOJ) and the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, who will “analyze information on the use of telecommunications, including the Internet, broadcast television and radio, cable television, public access television, commercial mobile services, and other electronic media, to advocate and encourage violent acts and the commission of crimes of hate.”

Civil liberties lawyer Harvey A. Silverglate clarifies the agenda here. “This proposed legislation is worse than merely silly. It is dangerous,” he explained. “It is not up to Sen. Markey, nor to the federal government, to define for a free people what speech is, and is not, acceptable.”

One might think it is also unacceptable for the federal government to define racial bias based on the number of police stops and arrests of Hispanic and black Americans relative to those of whites. One would be wrong. On Monday, the Eric Holder announced the DOJ would begin collecting data on such police activity in five American cities in order to address possible racial bias within the criminal justice system.

“This overrepresentation of young men of color in our criminal justice system is a problem we must confront—not only as an issue of individual responsibility but also as one of fundamental fairness, and as an issue of effective law enforcement,” Holder said in a video address released Monday. “Racial disparities contribute to tension in our nation generally and within communities of color specifically, and tend to breed resentment towards law enforcement that is counterproductive to the goal of reducing crime.” Thus, the DOJ has aligned itself with the the NAACP and the ACLU both of whom contend that higher arrest rates for blacks and Hispanics demonstrates racism.”

Holder cites familiar statistics to back up his claim, noting that half of black American men have been arrested at least once by the age of 23 and that black men were 6 times more likely, and Latino men were 2.5 times likely, to be imprisoned than white men in 2012.

Unsurprisingly, as is often the case with Holder and his ongoing efforts to use the DOJ to advance an agenda, truth is the first casualty. The reason blacks and Hispanics are arrested and imprisoned at higher rates than their white counterparts is because they commit crimes at much higher rates. For example, black males between the ages of 14 and 17 commit homicides at ten times the rate of whites and Hispanics combined.

If Holder wants to collect data, he might begin with data already collected by the NYPD using their crime fighting analytical tool known as CompStat. In 2010, when civil rights activists began complaining about the disproportionate amounts of pedestrian stops of black New Yorkers relative to the representation in the population–55 percent stops in a community that comprises 23 percent of the city’s population—CompStat data popped a giant hole in the activists’ balloon, when the kind of statistics Holder cherishes revealed what occurred in the Big Apple in 2009. From the New York Times:

Based on reports filed by victims, blacks committed 66 percent of all violent crime in New York in 2009, including 80 percent of shootings and 71 percent of robberies. Blacks and Hispanics together accounted for 98 percent of reported gun assaults. And the vast majority of the victims of violent crime were also members of minority groups.

Non-Hispanic whites, on the other hand, committed 5 percent of the city’s violent crimes in 2009, 1.4 percent of all shootings and less than 5 percent of all robberies.

Stats released for the city of Chicago’s 2011 homicide rates tell a similar story. In the Windy City that year, 94.8 percent of homicides were committed by blacks and Hispanics—and 94.2 percent of their victims were black and Hispanic as well.

Furthermore in 2012, the year Holder cites as the impetus behind his agenda, even more inconvenient realities are revealed. According to the FBI’s 2012 Uniform Crime Reports, black Americans committed more than 49 percent of all homicides, and 55 percent of all robberies, despite representing less than 13 percent of the nation’s overall population. This compares to 48 percent of homicides and 43 percent of robberies perpetrated by whites and Hispanics combined.

None of this matters to racialist bean-counters like Eric Holder. Thus he will proceed with launching a new National Center for Building Community Trust and Justice, a $4.75 million pilot program funded by taxpayers that essentially starts out with the assumption that police are being over-zealous (read: biased) in their efforts to combat crime.

Tellingly Holder’s real agenda is revealed by what he contends motivated him to undertake this initiative: the not guilty verdict for George Zimmerman, who was acquitted of murder for fatally shooting teenager Trayvon Martin. “Last July, following the verdict in the case involving the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, President Obama spoke out about the need to promote better understanding between law enforcement and young men of color,” Holder stated. ” He specifically directed the Justice Department to work closely with state and local law enforcement agencies to develop training and other innovative tools that can help to reduce discord and restore trust.”

Such discord and distrust is regularly ginned up by race hustlers like Al Sharpton, who played a major role in turning the death of Trayvon Martin into a national referendum on race. One so transparently dishonest, it required the media to label George Zimmerman a “white Hispanic” to maintain the fiction. Even Zimmerman’s subsequent acquittal was insufficient to blunt the DOJ’s agenda: more than a year and a half after they began investigating him, Zimmerman remains in the agency’s cross-hairs for possible civil rights prosecution connected to the case.

The thinking behind both of these efforts is clear. Democrats and the Obama administration believe there is nothing wrong with using the federal government as a club to advance a progressive agenda that threatens free speech on one hand, and the ability to effectively fight crime on the other. In a time when the American left is attempting to promote the idea that America is cesspool of hate and racism—due in large part to “white privilege”—the public might be forgiven for being highly suspicious of how the NTIA might determine when the Internet is being used to commit hate crimes, and how they would prioritize their pursuit of ostensible violators. As for Eric Holder, he has made it painfully clear he is willing to use the DOJ to pursue a racialist narrative, even when the facts get in the way.

Republicans need to make it clear that another hate crimes bill has no chance of passing. Americans need to make it clear they are tired of an Attorney General willing to call them a “nation of cowards” when it comes to discussing race, even as his latest effort implies that America’s top law enforcement official believes his fellow law enforcement officials are motivated by racial prejudice, rather than the pursuit of crime.

The Dutch continue to rage over Geert’s “fewer Moroccans” line.

On March 19, addressing supporters in The Hague after a local election, Geert Wilders, head of the Freedom Party (PVV), asked if they wanted more or less of the European Union. “Less!” they shouted. Did they want more or less of the Labor Party? “Less!” they repeated. Then he asked, “Do you want, in this city and in the Netherlands, more or fewer Moroccans?”

That last line caused a firestorm. Major politicians compared Wilders to Hitler. Prime Minister Mark Rutte demanded he apologize. The Freedom Party’s leader in the European Parliament, Laurence Stassen, quit the party, as did many local and regional officials. (Commentator Tom-Jan Meeus maintained in NRC Handelsblad that Wilders “has lost his closest allies, his best member of parliament and his European assembly member.”) The Labor Party announced that it wouldn’t support any Freedom Party motion in Parliament. Hundreds of police complaints were reportedly filed against Wilders, and police, according to Soeren Kern, made it easier to file them “by providing pre-filled ‘Wilders forms’ and offering to come to people’s homes if they intend to press criminal charges, rather than having them come to the police station, as is the normal procedure.” A Facebook page for people filing police complaints against Wilders gathered nearly 100,000 “likes.” The new U.S. ambassador, Timothy Broas, stated that Wilders’s remarks were at odds with Dutch and American values. The Freedom Party fell in the polls from the largest to the third largest Dutch party. “Schools,” wrote Kern, “began to issue guidelines to instruct pupils on how to deal with Wilders.” In Amsterdam, 5,000 people demonstrated against Wilders and the mayor led a chant of “We are all Moroccans!” Dutch TV aired “a church service against Wilders.” An actor named Thijs Römer, in a reference to the murderer of Fortuyn, Volkert van der Graaf, tweeted: “Volkert, where are you when your country needs you?”

Wilders refused to apologize. “I haven’t said anything wrong, only what most people think.” He hadn’t been calling, he insisted, for wholesale deportation: he’d been talking about restricting immigration, supporting voluntary repatriation, and sending criminals with dual nationality back to Morocco. Period.

There are a number of things to be said about Wilders’s comment. First of all, yes, it was unwise. He came off sounding like a bigot. I don’t think he’s a bigot. But that doesn’t matter. In the Netherlands, every single member of the political, media, and academic establishment is constantly waiting for Wilders to say something that they can seize upon and point to as purported evidence of his bigotry. He gave them fuel. That was unfortunate.

Then again, Pim Fortuyn and Ayaan Hirsi Ali were a lot more careful about how they expressed themselves in these matters – and, in the long run, it didn’t make much difference. Their enemies still found ways to demonize them – still found a word here, a word there, to grasp onto and wave in the air as examples of their vile intolerance. When you’ve got enemies who act like this, you’re sunk. Pim ended up dead. Ayaan ended up being driven out of the country (which, of course, turned out to be the best thing that happened to her).

At the other end of the spectrum, Theo van Gogh was deliberately outrageous, calling Muslims “goat fuckers” and the like. But then, he was a prominent writer and broadcaster and filmmaker, not a politician, and if such rhetoric didn’t get him frozen out of the public square, it was partly because he was irreverent about pretty much everybody and everything – that was his image, that was his shtick. He was a professional polemicist, able to get away with using language for which other media figures would lose their jobs, because most people understood that being over-the-top was part of his act – that, far from being a bigot, he was a guy who didn’t like seeing Western freedoms threatened, and the rights of women and Jews and gays and others trampled, by the bullying adherents of a totalitarian faith.

In any event, he ended up getting killed, too.

What about Wilders, then? As a politician, he can’t afford to express himself in the colorful way van Gogh did. But on March 19 he went over the line, in the view of many, and he paid for it. That’s politics. Especially in the age of Facebook and Twitter.

But let’s never forget this. As of this coming November, Wilders will have been living under constant armed protection, deprived of his freedom, for ten years – thanks to threats made on his life by the likes of Mohammed Bouyeri, the Moroccan murderer of Theo van Gogh. He’s been put on trial, in his own purportedly democratic country, for speaking his mind about Islam. Because of his views on Islam, he’s been banned from entering certain other Western countries, despite his position as an elected member of the Dutch parliament. He’s been sued for a large sum of money by a radical imam who claimed his feelings were hurt by Wilder’s film Fitna, about Islam’s systematic abuse of women. He’s even been the subject of an extradition request by the Kingdom of Jordan, which wanted to try him for the capital crime of blasphemy under sharia law.

Is it so difficult to understand that Wilders, who may be under more daily pressure than any man in Europe, can’t, at every moment, when speaking about people who have been seriously dedicated for years to bringing about his death, keep himself from slipping into rhetoric that’s less than perfectly sensitive?

As it happens, only a day or so before Wilders’s “fewer Moroccans” line made international headlines, a Dutch Muslim rapper named Hozny released a music video showing “a man representing Dutch politician Geert Wilders” being “abducted by armed men and brought to Hozny, who makes him kneel in front of an Islamic flag.” At the end of the song, which includes the line “You are only alive because Allah allows it,” Wilders is executed.

Unlike Wilders’s “fewer Moroccans” line, this video has not gained worldwide attention. Obviously it wasn’t as offensive.

Hard facts: not all that long ago, the Netherlands was a well-nigh idyllic little country. Now it’s a nightmare in the making. Almost everyone acknowledges this now. But why is it a nightmare in the making? Be careful answering that question, or you’ll be sorry. Yes, a majority of young Dutch Moroccans have police records – but if you speak this raw truth flat-out, without cloaking it in the usual euphemisms and qualifications and reassurances, you’ll be branded a bigot. Yes, many Dutch Muslims have gone to Syria to be jihadists, and a poll last year of Dutch Muslims showed that almost three-quarters of them regard such people as heroes – but, again, if you choose to communicate this fact to others, you’d damn well better be exceedingly careful how you go about doing it. Put your foot even slightly wrong, and suddenly you won’t be a good guy criticizing the bad guys – you’ll be a racist. And the second you misstep, the armies will be lining up to condemn you and to demonstrate their own virtue by dropping the relevant, important, and thoroughly grim facts about the subject at hand down the memory hole and proclaiming inanely: “We are all Moroccans!”

“We are all Moroccans!” This sort of nonsense is now commonplace. Recently, in Sweden, after some guy was accused of pulling off a Muslim woman’s head covering, non-Muslim women across the country expressed support for the alleged victim by tweeting pictures of themselves in veils: look at us, we love Islam! Three years ago, in Norway, after one lunatic slaughtered dozens of Labor Party youth members purportedly because he opposed Muslim immigration, politicians and royals rushed to mosques to declare their solidarity with Muslims: look, we’re not Islamophobes, like that mass murderer! Now, a Dutch politician makes a less than ideally formulated comment about Moroccans and thousands of his countrymen waste no time lining up to say: “We are all Moroccans!” It’s the ultimate multicultural compulsion: to prove that one isn’t racist – and assert that someone else is. And thereby replace the real, tough, uncomfortable issue with a fake issue, a non-issue, a BS issue, that provides the multiculturalist with a delicious frisson of self-righteousness.

In a speech on March 22, Wilders explained in detail what he had meant by the “fewer Moroccans” line. His party platform calls for “a three-stage approach” to the Islamic immigration issue: “limiting immigration from Islamic countries, including Morocco”; “promoting re-emigration” to Muslim countries; and “deporting criminal Moroccans by revoking their Dutch passports, if they have dual nationality – and most have – and sending them back to the country of their other nationality.” In answer to the question “why did I refer to Moroccans in particular?”, Wilders said he’d done so “because Moroccans are at the top of the list of over-representation in crime and welfare dependence. Moroccan youths younger than 23, more than 60% of them are known to the police and the judicial system. Moroccans are 22 times more frequently guilty of violent crime such as mugging and robbery. They are seven times more likely to be on welfare. These are facts that I haven’t made up, but these are facts that I have to make known or I might just as well not have gone into politics. I went into politics to state things like this, and to propose solutions.”

And that’s the bottom line. Your typical high-level European politician – say, oh, Jens Stoltenberg, the recently dethroned prime minister of Norway who was just named head of NATO (an organization for whose founding values he has never shown particular enthusiasm) – plainly went into politics not to face up to hard truths or put his life on the line for freedom, but so that he could eventually end up as, well, head of NATO, or as a jet-setting big shot at the UN or EU or World Bank. Yes, Wilders stumbled with his line about “fewer Moroccans,” but on a European landscape crowded with empty-suit politicians who don’t really stand for anything except for their own careers, whose approach to Islam and immigration is to recite facile multicultural mantras, and whose only real qualification for anything is that they never, ever offend (precisely because they strenuously skirt the topics that matter the most), Wilders is the real thing: a brave, selfless man determined to steer the ship of state through turbulent waters safely into port. The Dutch would be fools to throw him overboard.

State of the City speech delivers a goody bag for criminals, illegal aliens and welfare voters.

The further left a radical politician wants to go, the more likely he is to wrap his agenda in a mainstream Republican brand. In his interview with Bill O’Reilly, Obama compared himself to Nixon (not for the reason most Republicans would expect) and in his State of the City address, Bill de Blasio compared himself to Fiorello H. La Guardia; a former Republican mayor of New York City.

The constant mentions of La Guardia, a universally popular figure, were a poor mask for a radical address filled with ugly divisive rhetoric, class warfare and schemes that will bankrupt the city.

If William Wilhelm Jr., aka Bill de Blasio, had been more honest, he would have compared himself to Mayor Dinkins, his old boss, who was sitting in the audience, while the first Democratic mayor since the end of the disastrous Dinkins era unveiled a package of class warfare, high taxes and ID’s for illegal aliens.

But Dinkins, despite being almost as friendly with Al Sharpton as De Blasio, was a moderate compared to Red Bill whose State of the City address was another call for a Red Apple. For all his many shortcomings, Dinkins had never embraced divisive rhetoric to the same extent that Bill de Blasio did in his address.

Instead of simply laying out a series of programs, Bill de Blasio ranted about the rich (a group that he is a member of) and announced that he wanted to discuss “the core values we share as New Yorkers pursuing progressive change.”

Not every New Yorker is a fan of progressive change, especially once he finds out that it means dangerous streets, high taxes, poor services and lots of buck passing, but Red Bill was really saying that non-progs who weren’t committed to his extremist program had no place in the city that his corrupt allies had taken over.

Instead of uniting New Yorkers, Bill de Blasio harped on his “Tale of Two Cities” story that is as much a work of fiction as the Dickens original.

If you believe Red Bill, the biggest problem in a city with a $70 billion annual budget is that the taxes aren’t high enough and that not enough money is being spent on education and social services.

“The children of this city deserve billions more in educational resources and now is the time to provide it,” De Blasio demanded.

The question is, how many billions more?

New York City debt is at $110 billion and the school budget has already hit $25 billion. Not only is the school budget for a single city bigger than the entire state budgets of Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska and South Dakota combined, but Bill de Blasio is claiming that it somehow still isn’t high enough.

“Raising taxes on the rich makes our commitment to our kids more than just words. It makes that commitment REAL. It makes that commitment fair,” Bill de Blasio ranted.

Our commitment to his kids is about the same amount of money it cost to put a man on the moon. That’s more than the average public school grad will ever do no matter how much Red Bill raises taxes. New York City already spends $19,000 per student. It can spend $190,000 per student and it still won’t match the results in Utah which spends $8,224 per student. But some things, money just can’t buy.

In the city budget, the Department of Social Services eats up $9.3 billion and Health and Welfare consumes another $5.5 billion. Eight billion goes to pensions for city workers; a number that will skyrocket under Bill de Blasio as his union backers cash in their support for the 150 pending municipal union contracts that he mentioned in his address.

“We will navigate towards a future that is progressive and fiscally responsible,” De Blasio boasted. It’s safe to say that he doesn’t know what the words “fiscally responsible” mean or that they go together with “progressive” the way that “safe” goes together with “nuclear disaster.”

Another $4.7 billion of the city budget already goes to debt service and $865 million goes to the City University of New York, whose total budget is $2.5 billion. In his address, Bill de Blasio pledged to incorporate a dedicated science, technology, engineering and math program into CUNY “to start preparing more graduates of our public high schools for jobs in the city’s tech industry.”

“Our aim is that within eight years, the majority of skilled technology-related jobs in New York City are being filled by those educated in New York City schools,” Bill de Blasio added.

That fanciful plan fails to take into account the fact that 80% of public school grads need remedial education in reading and writing to even get started at CUNY. Unlike Bloomberg, Bill de Blasio didn’t discuss any plans for reforming schools. That’s not surprising considering what his backers in the educational unions think of reforms that would actually force them to do their jobs for a change.

Instead, Red Bill continued his bizarre showdown with Governor Cuomo over universal Pre-K. Cuomo had already promised universal Pre-K, but Bill de Blasio insisted that he was “asking Albany to allow New York City to tax itself – its wealthiest residents” for a program that Albany was already going to pay for.

The red and red-faced mayor also demanded that Cuomo give him the power to raise the minimum wage. Like most radicals, Bill de Blasio is unable to keep from picking fights even with fellow Democrats.

Bill de Blasio pledged to shift money from “corporate subsidies” to “tuition assistance.” Considering how huge the education budget is and that the unemployment rate is at 8 percent for the general population and at 30 percent for the young, that’s a formula for handing out a lot of useless diplomas with no jobs.

But that’s an economic logic that extreme leftists like Bill de Blasio are incapable of understanding.

Red Bill threatened Wall Street, but it’s already shifting jobs outside the city. While other cities are providing incentives to lure Wall Street firms, Bill de Blasio is giving them more reasons to leave while promising a science and technology diploma for every CUNY illiterate who can point to a picture of a cat.

Since all those grads without jobs will need someplace to live, Bill de Blasio repeated his promise of 200,000 units of subsidized housing for 500,000 people living at someone else’s expense to be achieved by blackmailing developers. Considering the kind of developers who will be willing to meet his demands, it’s a formula for the disastrously mismanaged housing that can be experienced in Sochi or the Bronx.

For those New Yorkers looking forward to the return of Dinkins era crime, Red Bill took credit for scrapping Stop and Frisk, which kept down gang violence and shootings of mainly black men, and he offered municipal ID’s to illegal aliens so that they can obtain “bank accounts.”

“We will protect the almost half-million undocumented New Yorkers whose voices too often go unheard,” Bill de Blasio said. But their voices were heard when they cast someone else’s votes for him.

Bill de Blasio boasted that shootings were down. In fact, murders had risen by 33%, an increase that police sources blamed on Red Bill’s dismantling of the successful Stop and Frisk program.

With his first State of the City address, Bill de Blasio had demonstrated that he had nothing to offer working people. His address was full of goodies for gang members, illegal aliens and welfare voters. It had nothing to offer New Yorkers except more crime, taxes, bankruptcy and the fast lane to Detroit.

Please ignore the crime and violence.

Black History Month in Delaware began with all the usual suspects presenting all the usual indictments of racism.

If there was any mention of black mob violence or black on white crime, it was only in passing. Or only to represent the perpetrators as the real victims.

Teenagers, for example, who were kicked out of high school for violence and truancy, were said to be victims of uncaring counselors who threw them into a life of crime by suggesting they go to night school. There was a lot of that: More than 60 percent of black students in Wilmington, Delaware drop out of high school.

As for the real victims, black and white, of the school violence and behavior that disrupted their learning, there was not a word.

Nor did anyone mention how two of the panel members voted for a local city council resolution a few weeks before that declared Wilmington’s black criminals were the real victims: They were suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder caused by slavery.

Nor did anyone talk about how, just a few days before, a member of the Nation of Islam bearing a message from Louis Farrakhan, told a roomful of the top elected and political officials in the area, that anyone who talked about crime in Wilmington was doing the work of “the enemy.” And they were trying to discredit the re-election efforts of the city’s black mayor.

These meeting, like similar ones around the country — cry out for a bit of balance. So let’s take a broader — but more narrow — look at some recent events connected to the crime and the jobs that are so popular at so many Black History Month gatherings around the country.

Let’s start in Chickasaw, Alabama.

Carroll Jordan might be dead by the time you read this — a victim of black mob violence.

Jordan is an 86-year-old white man who kept his door unlocked so that his neighbors could check in on him.

Monday a week ago, one of his neighbors — a black woman — was doing just that around noon: But when she knocked, an unfamiliar face answered the door. She pushed her way in.

“I walked in and saw Mr. Jordan laying on the other side of his chair,” said the neighbor, who did not want WKRG TV news to identify her. “He was bloody in his face and he was gasping for air. I turned around to the young man and asked him ‘What have you done?’”

They did not stick around to answer. And now police are looking for “three teenage suspects — all black men around the ages of 18 and 19 years old,” said the WKRG TV news.

Black suspects are often not identified by race in local news reports — although race is almost always listed in police reports. Many news directors say just naming the race of the suspects does not add much to the description. So using it can only inflame racial tensions.

But in this case, the TV reporter identified the race of the suspects. And today, three of the alleged assailants are in custody. Turns out, race was the only part of the description that was completely accurate: They were not all teenagers. And not all guys. But they were all back.

Police say Jordan was stabbed five or six times in the back. His face was swollen and cut as well from an extensive beating about the head. He is on and off a ventilator and WKRG say his family and friends are “hoping for the best but prepared for the worst.”

A few days later in Minneapolis — one day before the beginning of Black History Month — a 20-year-old black man was charged with the home invasion robbery and murder of a 69-year-old grandfather. The alleged assailant’s girlfriend may have been outside. But she has not been charged.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune picks up the story: “The stranger ran to the back door of Thomas Sonnenberg’s north Minneapolis house, screaming, ‘Let me in! Somebody’s going to kill me!’”

“Sonnenberg, a 69-year-old retired technician known as a Good Samaritan on his block, stepped outside, looked around and ushered the man inside, then was careful to lock the deadbolt.”

“At the stranger’s behest, he called 911. Moments later, Sonnenberg lay on the floor, with a bullet to the head, and the man he had sought to shelter from harm was attacking Sonnenberg’s 68-year-old wife.”

“Police arrived in time to interrupt the midday Friday assault in the small house in the 3700 block of Aldrich Avenue N., but they could do nothing for Sonnenberg, who died of the gunshot wound.”

Minneapolis is a center of frequent and intense black mob violence and black on white crime. Much of it documented in White Girl Bleed a Lot: The Return of Racial Violence and How the Media Ignore It.

The violence is often centered downtown, but sometimes can be found at the nearby Mall of America and campus of the University of Minnesota. Often on video.

In the fall semester of 2013, crime on campus was so bad that thousands of students signed a petition asking for more police protection. One month later in December, six groups of black students and faculty demanded that the University police stop identifying the race of the suspects in these crimes — which included robberies, assaults, and attempted kidnapping.

Virtually all the suspects in the crimes are black.

The black groups say identifying the race of the perpetrators is racist and makes the black students feel poorly about themselves. And that is more important than reducing crime. They really said that.

The University of Minnesota is a center of teaching of Critical Race Theory: White racism is everywhere. White racism is permanent. A staple of the philosophy is that white people and black people commit crime in the same amount, but because of racism, black people are arrested more often.

But if white people are committing crimes in and around the University of Minnesota campus, so far campus police are keeping it under wraps. And the six different groups of black people have yet to document it.

Omar Neal, the former mayor of Tuskegee, Ala., says black crime and violence will exist as long as leaders ignore the real cause: “The displaced anger” of black males who have been relegated to the margins of society. That is what he told the Ledger-Inquirer, anyway.

In the end, the university did not comply with the groups’ request. But university officials assure everyone that the school is fully committed to diversity. And, uh, whatever.

In San Antonio, the night before the Minneapolis home invasion, Cory Robinson woke up with a fractured skull after a black mob beat him and yelled, “get the white boy” and “knockout.”

He will live. Police are still looking for the 6 to 10 black people responsible.

In Baltimore, just a few hours after Cory Robinson was almost killed by a black mob and still one day away from the official start of Black History Month, two black teenagers were arrested in the stabbing and beating death and home invasion robbery of Kimberly Leto, a white Baltimore restaurant worker.

They are 14 and 16 years old.

This was the second uber-violent crime in that neighborhood in a week: Shortly before murder of Leto, an editor at the Baltimore Sun John Fogg, was attacked when he was getting out of his car and heading for his house just a few blocks away.

His skull is fractured in six places. He lost 10 teeth. The black suspect, in custody, was recently arrested for two other assaults, but charges were dropped before the case came to trial.

The big break in the Leto murder came after finding a fingerprint from Alonzo Gorham-Ramos, the 16-year-old who was arrested for a burglary at the same house six months ago.

At his pre-trial hearing, Gorham-Ramos asked to be released without bail so that he could spend time with his daughter.

It is not as far-fetched of a request as it may seem. Last year, during a spike in black mob violence in Baltimore, the Governor suggested the Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake start increasing police patrols. Rawlings-Blake curtly told the governor — who himself is a former mayor of Baltimore — that mass incarceration was not an effective crime fighting strategy.

That is why arrests in Baltimore have gone from 100,000 per year to 50,000, she said.

David Simon, liberal icon and creator of the Baltimore-based TV show The Wire, said last year in his book that black juries in Baltimore and elsewhere are reluctant to convict black criminals. They call it racial jury nullification and it happens all over the country.

So while Mayor Rawlings-Blake and others say black people are victims of an unfair criminal justice system that has led to such a disproportionate number of black people behind bars, others point to the advantages black criminals are carrying into Black History Month 2014:

1) Black people in black neighborhoods are reluctant to report crime. Some out of fear of retaliation. Others, like MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry, out of fear of the real criminals: the police.

“We have an under-reporting of rape and domestic violence in African American communities,” she said on her show, “because we know the violence enacted on black men by police, so we often don’t call. Right?”

2) Now cities like Baltimore and New York have made it a policy to arrest fewer people.

3) And if someone does call, and if someone is arrested, black juries are more reluctant to convict.

In the first week of Black History Month, Tracey Helvorsen set Baltimore abuzz with an article about crime, and how people in her white neighborhood live in constant fear. Critics at dozens of news sites around the town excoriated her article as an example of white privilege: Only white people think they are entitled to live in a safe neighborhood.

Indianapolis started Black History Month with large-scale black mob violence downtown during the first two weekends of the month. In the latest episode, hundreds of people were fighting and three officers were injured.

Indianapolis – especially downtown – is the scene of frequent and intense black mob violence – including dozens of episodes from the annual Black Expo, the largest gathering of its kind in America.

There are examples from Austin, Norfolk, College Park (Pennsylvania), and other spots. But let’s get to the one area that many people still say is causing this violence and mayhem: Jobs.

If there is one thing that solves crime — everyone at the Black History Forum agreed — it is jobs.

So you might think that many people in Wilmington — a predominantly black city of 70,000 that is regularly mentioned as one of the most dangerous in America — would welcome a new company that wanted to spend $250 million to privatize the Port of Wilmington.

Not so. Black city officials and black labor union leaders killed the deal last year after convincing people that the plans for a new port would somehow jeopardize jobs. There was not a word about that from the podium.

But they were in unanimous agreement that the government did need to offer more programs and more free stuff.

Also on the job front, in Portland, Oregon, they kicked off their celebration of Black History Month by kicking a major grocery store chain out of a black neighborhood this week.

City officials had been working with Trader Joe’s for more than a year to convince the grocery store to invest $8 million in a “historically African-American neighborhood.” A high crime neighborhood. The kind of place that First Lady Michelle Obama calls a “food desert” because large grocery stories will not open there.

But Trader Joe’s pulled out, said the Associated Press, after the Portland African American Leadership Forum said it would “Remain opposed to any development in N/NE Portland that does not primarily benefit the Black community.” It said the grocery-store development would “increase the desirability of the neighborhood,” for “non-oppressed populations.”

Translation: White women love Trader Joe’s.

Members of the black group said they would rather have other kinds of free stuff. And whoever builds whatever goes in the former Trader Joe’s site should be forced to sign a contract making sure black people get preferential treatment for the building and operating of it.

This is hardly unique to Portland. The San Francisco Chronicle recently published the news about troublesome white people in Oakland who wanted to move into a black neighborhood and start a business or fix up a house or even plant a garden.

The headline says it all: “Fear white influx will erase West Oakland history.”

“It hurts. I’m not going to say I’m content with this,” said Leander Muhammed, 34, a third-generation West Oakland resident who runs after-school and sports programs for kids in the neighborhood. “Suddenly there’s nonprofits and community gardens on every corner. Community gardens? I don’t get it – my granny was planting collards and tomatoes here for decades. It all seems crazy to me.”

Or as the Washington Post puts it: White people moving into a black neighborhood means that “a historically disadvantaged people has been disadvantaged once again.” Dr. Cornel West calls it the “New Jim Crow.”

A version of the story of how white people are ruining black neighborhoods has appeared in every major paper in the country. They call it gentrification.

Out in Wisconsin, public school officials are promoting a conference next month to “attract teachers, university faculty, activists and high school and college students” to “dismantle this system of white supremacy, white privilege and oppression.”

Organizers of the White Privilege Conference are expecting 2000 people at the four-day event, which is in its 15th year of exposing “white supremacy and white privilege.”

Back at the Black History Forum in Delaware, U.S. Senator Chris Coons concluded his remarks by asking the mixed race audience to pray for Republicans because they are trying to take away the right to vote from black people.

Everyone agreed to do so.

The Treasury release doesn’t make it clear whether Demetria Brown obtained the information she used through her job at the IRS. But she certainly got the information she needed about how the IRS works from her time there.

A News 4 investigation has exposed a woman accused of stealing taxpayer information by using her position as an employee at the St. Louis IRS branch.

News 4’s Chris Nagus traveled down to Birmingham, Alabama, in search of Demetria Brown who was accused of filing $326,000 worth of bogus tax returns. In 2012, the IRS paid out $4 billion worth of phony returns, which ultimately screws up the lives of hard working people like Lenora Walker.

Walker said her identity has been stolen twice.

“Somebody has used my social security number the last two years,” Walker said, “They keep telling me they don’t have the information about who it is.”

Taxpayers might assume it is some anonymous internet thief, but in the case of Demetria Brown, the theft comes from inside the IRS.

The Treasury release has more details on the thefts of Demetria Brown.

Brown obtained the personal identifiers of individuals (including names, Social Security Numbers, and dates of birth) without their consent or knowledge and completed U.S. Individual Tax Returns and Missouri State Tax Returns with the information.

She opened nominee bank accounts with at least six financial institutions in five different States. She used the routing number, account number, and debit card number on the fraudulent returns to direct payment or credit to accounts she controlled. Through her scheme, Brown unlawfully acquired approximately $326,260 ($211,474 from the IRS and $114,786 from the MDOR).

Demetria’s case is unfortunately not unique among IRS employees.

Internal Revenue Service Employee Joy Fox Indicted in Identity Theft Scheme

On July 18, 2013, in the Eastern District of Kentucky, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) employee Joy Fox was indicted for fraud and related activity in connection with computers, aggravated identity theft, mail fraud, and conspiracy to file false claim.

According to court documents, as part of her duties with the IRS, Fox had access to an IRS computer system which maintains taxpayer information, including names, Social Security Numbers, and dates of birth of taxpayers. On dates between January 2013 and March 2013, Fox and a co-conspirator, Patrick Sharpe, carried out a scheme to defraud and obtain money by means of false pretense. As part of the plan, Sharpe requested that Fox provide identifying information on individuals 65 years of age or older who were entitled to receive Social Security benefits. Fox exceeded her authorized access to the IRS computer system and improperly, without authority, obtained the personal identifying information of at least eight individuals. This information was provided to Sharpe for use in the scheme

Internal Revenue Service Employee Sentenced for Structuring Drug Proceeds

On October 15, 2013, in the Eastern District of California, Catatea James was sentenced for aiding and abetting in the structuring of funds. James pled guilty to the offense on July 16, 2013.

According to court documents, James knowingly and intentionally aided and abetted in the structuring of approximately $113,088 in drug proceeds at the direction of her half-brother and co-defendant, Joseph Gable. James allowed Gable to deposit and withdraw structured funds through her bank account, even though she suspected the money represented drug proceeds. On one occasion, James provided her bank account number to one of Gable’s drug customers in Alabama via text message.

Former Internal Revenue Service Employee Ordered to Pay Restitution for Theft of National Treasury Employees Union Funds

According to court documents, from approximately June 2005 until April 2010, Brown served as the Treasurer for NTEU Chapter 67 (NTEU-67). Brown was employed by the IRS in Ogden, Utah, at all times relative to the charges. NTEU-67 is an independent Federal sector union representing employees of the Treasury Department, and receives Federal funding and subsidies from the IRS. IRS employees complete NTEU-67 duties while on official IRS work time and are paid with IRS funds.

Brown’s responsibilities as the Treasurer for NTEU-67 included overseeing union dues and funds, balancing accounts, submitting and writing checks, and paying for authorized travel, all on behalf of NTEU-67. By virtue of her position as Treasurer, Brown had access to two NTEU bank accounts that were to be used solely for NTEU expenses and purposes. Brown embezzled money from NTEU-67 by using its banking accounts, as well as check and debit cards she obtained from the NTEU-67 accounts, for her personal use and benefit. From approximately January 2009 through April 2010, Brown made unauthorized cash withdrawals from the accounts, issued unauthorized checks, and made personal purchases with debit cards.

IRS Tax Compliance Officer Ceil Love Pleads Guilty to Disclosure of Tax Information

On July 11, 2013, in the Northern District of Georgia, IRS employee Ceil Love pled guilty to a Criminal Information, after being charged with knowingly and willingly disclosing to an unauthorized party tax return and return information collected by the Department of the Treasury

13 Current and Former IRS Employees Arrested for Concealing Material

Thirteen current and former IRS employees were arrested in the Western District of Tennessee on April 17, 2013, for concealing material information and making false statements.

According to indictments filed in March 2013, the individuals were charged with concealing material information and making false statements related to obtaining Government benefits. All 13, individually charged in separate indictments, were alleged to have concealed material information and falsely stated that they were unemployed while applying for or recertifying to obtain unemployment payments. However, at all times relevant to the indictments, the individuals were employed by the IRS.

But of course none of Obama’s tax thugs who targeted his political opponents have been indicted.

How the murder of a former Miss Venezuela is threatening the post-Chavez regime.

Beauty queens are revered in Venezuela, none more so than those crowned “Miss Venezuela.” So when a beloved former “Miss” named Mónica Spear and her ex-husband were murdered by highway bandits, the crime sparked national outrage — touching off street protests, non-stop media coverage, and an ongoing national conversation about the socialist government’s failure to stop a runaway murder epidemic.

Now, outrage over the murders is prompting many Venezuelans to confront the contradictions of Venezuela-style socialism. One of the biggest ironies: violent crime has exploded since President Hugo Chávez, a firebrand leftist, took office 15 years ago. This has happened, moreover, as capitalism has increasingly been dismantled – supposedly replaced by more economic equality and “social justice” in the oil-rich yet impoverished South American nation.

Chávez, who died last March of cancer, coined the term “21st Century socialism.” He contended it would reverse corruption-riddled Venezuela’s long economic decline, as would his strategy of pursing anti-American alliances. But as fallout continues over the high-profile murders, many Venezuelans are becoming more cynical about President Nicolás Maduro’s socialist agenda as tens of thousands of Venezuelans are being murdered annually. Maduro, Chávez’s hand-picked successor, is grappling with food shortages, falling oil prices, and annual inflation topping 50%. He rules a politically polarized country where just over 50 percent of voters support his leftist agenda. He possesses neither Chávez’s charisma nor mystical connection to Venezuela’s poor majority.

Spear, crowned “Miss Venezuela” in 2004, died in a hail of gunfire on a dark highway on Monday, January 6, with ex-husband Henry Thomas Berry, a 39-year-old British citizen who specialized in adventure tourism at a local travel agency. Their 5-year-old daughter suffered a leg wound.

Police said several bandits laid sharp objects on the road that flattened the car’s tires; other reports said the car was disabled after hitting a pothole — a common problem on poorly maintained roads. The couple locked themselves in their car as the bandits showed up, but to no avail: Six shots were fired as a tow-truck arrived. The couple’s ill-fated holiday in the spectacular mountains and plains of western Venezuela had been intended to give them a new start together.

With Spear and Berry’s murders, Venezuela’s skyrocketing murder rate suddenly has human faces – and President Maduro is on the defensive. He’d been focusing on deepening “21st Century socialism.” This included an “economic offensive” against the commercial class: from owners of supermarkets to electronics stores to car dealerships – all were being ordered to offer government-set “fair prices.” And before November’s make-or-break municipal elections, he’d won votes by taking bread-and-circuses populism to new heights, tacitly giving Christmas shoppers, as some observers saw it, a green light to loot electronics stores. “We’re doing this for the good of the nation,” he said. “Let nothing remain in stock!” A number of retailers were jailed — accused of speculating, hoarding, and unfair lending.

Now, sensing political trouble over Spear and Berry’s murders, Maduro is shifting his attention away from his “economic offensive.” He’s instead calling for an unprecedented anti-crime program, and he recently met with big-city mayors, governors, and administration officials to come up with a plan. Details remain sketchy. But hopefully, Maduro will focus on improving the nation’s often corrupt and inefficient police forces and criminal-justice system. In the past, he and Chávez had believed socialism would address what they believed were crime’s root causes: capitalism and class-conflict; poverty and economic inequality — and even violent American movies shown on Venezuelan television and movie theaters.

Venezuela suffered the world’s fourth highest murder rate in 2010 after Honduras, El Salvador, and Jamaica, according to United Nation’s statistics. Official Venezuelan crime statistics are non-existent: the government stopped providing them ten years ago. But sociologist Roberto Briceño León, president of the Venezuelan Observatory on Violence, a watchdog group, estimates that yearly homicides have increased 427% since Hugo Chávez was elected president in 1998, after campaigning on a platform to seek a “third way” between socialism and capitalism, and to reverse rampant corruption and declining living standards. “In 1998, we had 4,550 homicides in the country, but we closed the past year with 24,000,” Briceño León recently told Globovision, a Caracas television channel, in a segment about the Spear and Berry murders. To put those grim murder numbers into perspective: war-torn Iraq’s population is comparable in size to Venezuela’s, yet it suffered 7,800 killings in 2013 — about one third of Venezuela’s homicides. “A third of our murders, and yet the international community says absolutely nothing about the violence in Venezuela. Shame on them,” wrote Juan Cristobal Nagel, an opposition blogger at Caracas Chronicles.

To outraged Venezuelans, the couple’s murders were especially tragic because their lives were caught up with the rise and fall of the Venezuelan dream – an ideal that existed from the 1970s to mid-80s, the era of “Saudi Venezuela” when oil prices were soaring. Berry’s British parents had immigrated to Venezuela more than 40 years ago, when Caracas was a charming place known as the “city of red roofs.” His father was a mathematics professor at Simón Bolívar University. Spear, a fifth runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant, went on to because a successful soap-opera actress for the Spanish-language Telemundo network. In 2011, she had moved to Florida, one of more than 500,000 Venezuelan now living aboard to escape Venezuela-style socialism. Many are members of the business and professional classes, people whom class-warrior Chávez saw as part the problems ailing Venezuela.

Police investigating Spear and Berry’s murders quickly rounded up nine suspects who were part of a gang that preyed on motorists; they were carrying credit cards and a digital camera that belonged to the couple. It was splendid police work. But to most Venezuelans it underscored that their country, even under “21st Century socialism,” has two standards of justice: one for the well-connected and famous, and the other for ordinary Venezuelans, observed Briceño León, the sociologist. Indeed, most Venezuelans doubt that police would have expended such an effort for ordinary Venezuelans, he explained. “People can commit crimes without any consequences,” sociologist Luis Cedeño, director of civic group Active Peace, told Globovision.

Whatever crime-reduction plan President Maduro implements will face a major problem: Venezuela is broke. Draconian currency exchange and price controls have left many supermarket shelves empty; even toilet party is in short supply. Attracting significant foreign investment is not an option — not after Chávez nationalized large swaths of the economy. Recently, Bloomberg News reported that Venezuela’s “economic distress is so acute that the central bank stopped releasing regular statistics for the first time ever, threatening to increase borrowing costs further as the nation faces $10 billion of financing needs.” Benjamin Wang, a money manager at PineBridge Investments LLC, was quoted as saying: “There’s no transparent data to measure the risk.”

As the fallout over the death of a beauty queen plays out, cynicism is likely to grow toward Venezuela-style socialism. So will murder, corruption, and economic decline. How ironic that a beauty queen’s death may serve as a catalyst for positive change that opposition candidates have been unable to achieve by defeating Hugo Chávez or Nicolás Maduro at the polls.

Walking down the street while wearing a ski mask is suspicious unless you’re in the middle of a blizzard. But if you walk down the street in a Burka, no one is supposed to notice unless they’re an Islamophobe.

So Burkas are the new outfit of choice for criminals. That moves it up for being the outfit of choice by the Muslim husbands of abused women.

There have been several Burka bank robberies and now a Burka convenience store robbery. Unfortunately the owner was not only an Islamophobe, but also a Robberphobe and Redistributionphobe.

“They had the whole-body Muslim garb,” Collingdale Police Chief Robert Adams said. “They came in with the gun and pointed it for a holdup.”

Galiano, faced with the incongruous image of a male dressed in female Muslim garb waving a gun around, decided to make use of one of the many firearms at his disposal.

“It doesn’t make any sense,” Adams said of the attempted robbery. “He carries a gun and it’s right out there in the open. He pulled it out and shot.”

Cops say Galiano fired one shot at the teens, ages 15 and 17. Neither was struck, but the .45-caliber blast apparently made them see the error of their ways. They ran from the store.

One of the teens hopped onto the SEPTA Route 114 bus toward Chester and tried unsuccessfully to hide in the back. Police apprehended him and found the silver handgun on the floor of the bus.

The other teen was arrested behind a trolley stop, covered in mud and sweating profusely.

Just because you dress up like one of Mohammed’s wives, doesn’t mean you can get away with robbing people like he did.

What might have made the perps think that Mark Andrew was “easy pickings”? Maybe it was his record.

The runner-up in the Minneapolis mayoral election is recovering after being robbed and brutally beaten Thursday night at the Mall of America.

Mark Andrew, 63, was at a Starbucks inside the mall at around 7 p.m. Thursday when a man grabbed his phone off his table and ran off.

When Andrew went after him, he was tackled by two teenage girls – aged 18 and 17 — one of which began beating him with a billy club. During the attack, they told Andrew, “We’re going to kill you,” police say.

Andrew was left with a large gash on his head that required nine stitches. He has since been released from the hospital.

Andrew said Friday that he chased after the thief, because he’s not a bystander by nature.

“If somebody is gonna do that to me or somebody else, I’m not a bystander by nature I’ll go in and fight,” he said. ‘I was targeted because the phone was out and I’m 63 years old, and I’m sure they thought that I was easy pickins.’

Mr Andrew says it took about five minutes for police to arrive and that hundreds of shoppers witnessed the incident, but no one intervened because ‘they were too afraid’ and he called that a ‘sad commentary’.

It’s a sad commentary, but it’s a sad commentary on the society that his ideology created. Andrew is a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor party and is an environmentalist “entrepreneur”. He pushed environmental mandates non-stop.

And worse still, Mark Andrew was a supporter of illegal alien amnesty and pushed for Somali support.

Abdi Warsame, a Somali candidate for City Council in Ward 6, said Mark Andrew met with Somalis very early in the campaign season — before the other candidates, before the DFL caucus, even before Andrew officially announced his candidacy.

Mohamud Noor is also an adviser for Andrew’s campaign. Noor previously served as campaign co-chair for candidate Gary Schiff, and he currently works as executive director of the Confederation of Somali Community in Minnesota, which provides immigrants with resettlement services. Noor said he met with Andrew several times one-on-one, eventually becoming Andrew’s campaign co-chair for outreach several months ago.

Somali Public Radio, an outlet that broadcasts to 5,000 listeners in Somalia and the Twin Cities, endorsed Andrew in a statement on Oct. 5. The Editorial Board praised Andrew’s “bold understanding of East African issues, his support for rigorous police conduct review and his emphasis on sustainability, equity and economic development.”

Police conduct review? You don’t say.

Mark Andrew, former Hennepin County Commissioner and founder of GreenMark, said most officers serve the city well. But the spate of racist incidents this summer by some officers is disturbing and inexcusable, he said.

“As mayor, I will support a rigorous police conduct review process that includes an active role for the community, as well as provides a place for the community and police to review complaints together,” Andrew said.

There’s no proof that Andrew faced an attack by Somalis, who are a major problem in Minneapolis. But Somalis have been notorious for iPhone thefts. Two of the perps who attacked Andrew are unnamed. The one who is old enough to be named has a Somali, rather than African-American look, but an African-American name.

But whoever his attackers were, Mark Andrew ended up on the receiving end of the consequences of his pro-crime and pro-illegal immigration policies.

Awaiting the impending rise in crime under Bill de Blasio.

Back in September, The New York Times promoted Bill de Blasio’s mayoral candidacy with an editorial titled, “Don’t Fear the Squeegee Man.” The editorial informed readers that crime wouldn’t get worse under de Blasio because “policing is far better than it used to be, thanks to innovations by Mayor David Dinkins.” (Emphasis added — the Times was not being sarcastic.)

Under the policing “innovations” of Mayor Dinkins, the annual murder rate in New York City rose to an all-time high of 2,245 in Dinkins’ first year in office. After four years of hard work, the murder rate had dropped by about 10 percent, to a merely astronomical 1,995 per year.

In Mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s very first year in office, the murder rate fell 20 percent. The Times acknowledged the dramatic drop in crime with an article titled, “New York City Crime Falls But Just Why Is a Mystery.” By Giuliani’s last year in office, there were only 714 murders in the entire city, a drop of 64 percent from Dinkins’ personal best. By continuing Giuliani’s aggressive crime policies, Mayor Michael Bloomberg got the murder rate for 2012 down to 419 in a city of 8 million people.

But at the Times, they think we’ve been living in hell since Giuliani’s election, and the most urgent priority for the next mayor is to get back to Dinkins’ New York.

They’re not alone. (Thus de Blasio’s election.) In 2001, Richard Goldstein of The Village Voice announced on MSNBC’S “Hardball,” “I feel less safe today in New York City than I did 20 years ago.” This was a position Goldstein developed after taking a vow to never leave his apartment, allow visitors, read a newspaper, watch TV or listen to the radio.

A couple of weeks ago, the Times ran another item downplaying the coming crime surge under Mayor de Blasio. Former hedge fund manager Neil Barsky wrote a column mocking his fellow 1-percenters for fretting about the new mayor with this advice: “Calm down.” (I find few balms as soothing as being told to “calm down.”)

Reluctantly, Barsky admitted (17 times) that he is a very rich man. As he explained, he, too, enjoys the city having been turned into a “a millionaires’ playground” and having a mayor who is “one of us.” (Bloomberg’s not one of me, buster.) He sniffed that he found “this affluent angst more than a bit overwrought.”

They have learned nothing and forgotten nothing.

Liberal zealots view de Blasio as a breath of fresh air because he’s stuck in policies of the 1960s. That’s when Americans were assured by brain-dead liberals that if we could just improve criminals’ self-esteem, crime would disappear. You’ll see!

The result? The violent crime rate quadrupled.

We never got an apology on behalf of the tens of thousands of Americans who were murdered, maimed, raped and robbed as a direct result of liberal law enforcement strategies — much less the show trials these people deserved.

Liberal activists just waited out Giuliani and Bloomberg. Now they’re ready to retry all the old ideas. Mayor-elect de Blasio recently met with convicted criminals to get their views on policing policies. Wow! Look at de Blasio’s new ideas!

The ex-cons actually complained to de Blasio that they don’t like being watched so much.

The left simply refuses to believe that locking up criminals has any effect on crime and insists we just need to explain to them that committing violent felonies is wrong. (New York Times headline from Aug. 10, 2000: “Number in Prison Grows Despite Crime Reduction.”) It’s strange because liberals totally understand cause-and-effect when it comes to … well, um, nothing.

Suggesting that the “1 percent” – such as himself — are the most terrified of a de Blasio mayoralty, Barsky claimed that the massively rich have been the primary beneficiaries of record-low crime rates in New York — “those who can actually afford its housing, attend concerts in Lincoln Center, eat in its fancy restaurants and pay for parking to boot.”

That could be said only by someone who has never been the victim of a violent crime. Could someone please mug this guy?

The rich in New York are always the last to experience a spike in crime. They might not even notice when the murder, rape and robbery rates go through the roof under de Blasio — for the very reasons Barsky names: They can afford expensive neighborhoods, paid parking and concerts at Lincoln Center.

It’s the poor and middle-class New Yorkers, unprotected by doormen, chauffeurs and ticket-takers, who will be the first victims of de Blasio’s innovative new ideas on policing.

The non-1 percent live in neighborhoods that aren’t the province of multimillionaires, with doormen standing guard every 15 yards. They park their cars on the street, eat lunch in public parks and attend free concerts — all of which are also open to criminals. New-wave Brooklyn is about to become crime-wave Brooklyn.

For a newspaper that claims not to be worried about rising crime rates under de Blasio, the Times sure dedicates a lot of ink to assuring us that it’s not going to happen – and if it does, it won’t be de Blasio’s fault. In anticipation of a return to the glory days of David Dinkins, let me be the first to say, I told you so.

No word on whether the armed robber had any Skittles or iced tea on him.

The family of a suspected thief is lashing out after their son was shot during an armed robbery. Relatives of Adric White, 18, believe the Good Samaritan who opened fire should have “just left the store.”

Sure. Also if the police stopped carrying guns and responding to calls, that would make life much easier for Adric White and his clan.

The Good Samaritan, who we are not identifying, told FOX10 News he was shopping at the Family Dollar on Stanton road when he noticed a masked gunman leading one of the employees to the front of the store.

“He had the gun to his head. He had him on his knees,” said the man. “I drew my gun on him and I said ‘Hey don’t move.’ At that point he swung around and before he had a chance to aim the gun at me I fired. I didn’t want to shoot him.”

White was transported to USA Medical Center, where he remains in police custody.

But… but… we’re been told repeatedly that delusional mall cops think that you can just stop something like this by carrying a gun. Everyone knows that a good guy with a gun can’t stop a bad guy with a gun.

It takes a team of trained professionals to do that.

A family member who did not want to be identified said White should have never been shot to begin with.

“If his (the customer) life was not in danger, if no one had a gun up to him, if no one pointed a gun at him – what gives him the right to think that it’s okay to just shoot someone?” said the relative. “You should have just left the store and went wherever you had to go in your car or whatever.”

If only he had done that, this armed robbery could have gone smoothly and the relative might have gotten a cut.

But out of curiosity, what gave White the moral authority to rob a store at gunpoint?

Court records show that White was out on bond for robbing The Original Oyster House at gunpoint a little more than a month before the Family Dollar robbery.

This was the most unjustified shooting ever. And doubtless motivated by some combination of white privilege and an unholy love of guns.

It’s an infuriating example of political correctness: Most of New York City’s media outlets have sanitized the nature of a spate of unprovoked attacks upon hapless pedestrians — all recent victims of the so-called “knockout game.” There have been injuries and several deaths among men, women, and youngsters, as they suffered walloping “sucker punches” by roving black youths in New York City and elsewhere.

The knockout game involves an unmentionable subject for most in the mainstream media: black-on-white violence. To a lesser extent, Asians and Hispanics have been targeted as well. They’re white enough, it seems, for black youths playing the knockout game.

For those unfamiliar with the knockout game, it’s how some black youths amuse themselves, especially in urban settings. The goal: use a single devastating punch to knock a victim unconscious. And when they succeed, they invariably react with merriment and laughter, as videos capturing the mayhem have revealed. Could racism be motivating these black youths? Nobody in the mainstream media dares suggest that this might be fueling the black mob violence in what President Obama said would be a post-racial era.

The knockout game, to be sure, has been around a few years. It has been mostly ignored by the mainstream media, which generally airbrushes out the black-on-white nature of the mayhem. The knockout game, however, was the subject of a lengthy American Thinker article by John T. Bennett way back on July 14, 2011. Now, in light of the spate of recent attacks in New York City and nearby cities, some media outlets are belatedly acknowledging that the knockout game is indeed a growing trend – though they still tiptoe around the fact that the attackers are black.

In Brooklyn, some recent victims of the knockout game were Jews, which is finally prompting New York City police officials to state that “hate crimes” may have occurred.

Hate crimes? That must have shocked some at the New York Daily News, which on Monday ran an article that failed to note the generally black-on-white nature of the knockout game. Reporter Michael Walsh merely wrote that, “This disturbing game is a hit with goons” and is an “emerging trend among unhinged teens.”

And on Fox’s “The Real Story” on Tuesday, two “experts” opined during a panel discussion that the black youths playing the knockout game were possibly influenced by violent video games or raised in troubled homes. “This is about parenting at the core,” chimed in blond-haired moderator Gretchen Carlson.

All about parenting, huh? Fair enough. But that also raises the question of just what some black parents are teaching their little darlings, given that they prefer to attack mostly whites. It’s safe to say that the media would readily cry “racism” if the knockout game involved roving gangs of white youths attacking blacks and to a lesser extent Asians and Hispanics.

Fox’s Greta Van Susteren, for her part, gets it, unlike some of her colleagues at Fox News, which is the news channel that I usually watch. In her “On the Record” segment, Susteren raised alarm bells about the knockout game.

“Take a close look,” she said, referring to a video clip showing black youths playing the knockout game. “Do you know what is going on? That is young African-American teenagers viciously and gratuitously attacking a random victim, a teacher, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.”

“This knockout game crime is a trend,” she added. “We’ve had two incidents in the last few days right here in D.C. I know this is a very touchy topic because the game is regrettably popular amongst unsupervised African-American teens. No one wants to get near the topic of race. We also can’t run from this one.”

She concluded: “I beg of Reverend Jesse Jackson, Reverend Al Sharpton and even President Obama to step up right now and speak out. Your silence will speak volumes, but your voice could make a big difference. Don’t wait. Be leaders, they need you. We need you.”

Unfortunately, it would be out of character for these black leaders to speak out against the knockout game. They prefer to shame whites — not blacks — in order to achieve their left-leaning visions of social justice and score political points.

To its credit, the New York Post did run a piece on Tuesday exposing the unpleasant truths about the knockout game — and how the recent incidents in New York City and elsewhere underscore the pathologies of black thug culture. But that no-holds-barred article (“Thugs Target Jews in Sick Knockout Game”) wasn’t written by a New York Post reporter but by Thomas Sowell, an African-American and senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, the conservative think tank.

It would be interesting to know if the knockout game is being played in cities and states with high numbers of concealed carry permits. But the answer to that might not square with the mainstream media’s anti-gun agenda.

As New York’s newspapers and online sites tiptoe around race in their coverage of the knockout game, news channels are presenting a more honest picture of what’s happening due to the visual nature of their medium – as is underscored by this segment from a New York news channel.

This one isn't even on De Blasio. It's on Barack Obama.

This one isn’t even on De Blasio, but call it a head start on De Blasio time. Instead it’s on Barack Obama.

While housing projects in New York City are still often violence prone, they’re not nearly as bad as they used to be before Giuliani cleaned them up. And the most important thing he did there was get criminals out of public housing. So while public housing is still bad, it’s more likely to host senior citizens and less likely to host drug dealers these days.

But fortunately Obama put a stop to that. The first step is bringing in the ex-cons direct from prison.

The New York City Housing Authority will ease its ban on recently released prisoners and allow some of them to live in public housing as part of a pilot program set to start next month.

Public housing nationwide has been off-limits to many people with criminal records and, in New York, residents can be barred for up to six years depending on the nature of their offenses. But two years ago the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development began urging public housing agencies to relax admission policies in an effort to help people released from prison reunite with their families.

The New York City Housing Authority, landlord to more than 400,000 residents, will be one of the first public housing agencies in the nation to test lifting the restrictions. The program will, over the two-year pilot period, place 150 former inmates in public housing and provide social services to help them find jobs and meet other requirements.

“We’re hoping we’ll see fathers and mothers reunited with their children, or parents who are reunited with their children and grandchildren and need their support because they’re aging parents,” said Nora Reissig, the director of family services for the Housing Authority.

If they select the right 150, which they probably will, the path will be paved to ending restrictions and we’ll see housing projects turn into felon housing again. To some degree they still are, with criminals living with their girlfriends and parents and grandparents, but once the restrictions are down, then Fort Apache will be making a comeback.

Burka Bandits Rob Pregnant Woman in Seattle

Police weren’t able to locate the suspects.

Apparently it’s a bad idea to let masked people roam the streets. This is why most cities with high crime rates had laws about wearing masks in public. But Muslim Islamization groups arranged to waive those laws on the grounds of religious freedom.

Now Muslim and non-Muslim criminals are using the Burka to carry out crimes.

SEATTLE – A woman who was nine months pregnant was attacked and rob by two teenagers wearing burqas last Tuesday in North Seattle. Now, police are asking for help finding the attackers.

According to police, the pregnant woman was walking on Nov. 5 near the intersection of Pinehurst Way NE and NE 113th Street when two female teens dressed in all black and wearing burqas approached the woman and asked if they could use her cell phone.

The expectant mother said no, and that she would place the call for them. That’s when the girls, between the ages of 13 and 15, knocked the woman to the ground and tried to rob her before fleeing.

It is unclear if the victim suffered any injuries or needed any medical attention. Police called to the scene and police weren’t able to locate the suspects.

Well of course not. They were wearing masks. Legally. All they had to do was take off their Burkas, fold them up into a backpack and they were good to go.
