<div>Lie #1: Every President has Taken Executive Action on Immigration: No other president has ever issued an amnesty of anywhere near this scope, created it out of thin air, or built it upon a prior executive action instead of a statute. And in the case of President Eisenhower, his executive action was to deport 80,000 illegal immigrants.</div>

<div>Lie #2: Illegal Immigrant Crossings are Down: Actually, this is the third straight year that border crossings have gone up, not to mention the entirely new wave from Central America.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Lie #3: It does not grant citizenship or the right to stay here permanently: Under the royal edict, the work permits can be renewed every three years, and most likely, they will be renewed at the same 99.5% acceptance rate as DACA applications.  And once they get Social Security cards, they are going nowhere.  So yes, this is permanent.  And yes, they will be able to get green cards, which puts them on an automatic path to citizenship: “we are reducing the time that families are separated while obtaining their green cards.  Undocumented immigrants who are immediate relatives of lawful permanent residents or sons or daughters of US citizens can apply to get a waiver if a visa is available.”</div>

<div>Lie #4: Only 5 Million: Make no mistake about it.  Obama’s illegal amnesty will not just apply to 5 million individuals.  It will apply by default to all 12-20 million illegals in the country as well as the millions more who will now come here to enjoy the permanent cessation of borders and sovereignty.  Given the numerous options for people to become eligible for amnesty, ICE and CPB will be restricted from enforcing the law against anyone because each individual has to be afforded the opportunity to present themselves and apply for status.  There is no way those who were here for less than 5 years will be deported and there’s no way the new people rushing the border and overstaying their visas will be repatriated.</div>

<div>Lie #5: Deport Felons: Obama claims he is going to focus on deporting felons. Yet, he has done the opposite.  36,000 convicted criminal aliens were released last year, 80,000 criminal aliens encountered by ICE weren’t even placed into deportation proceedings, 167,000 criminal aliens who were ordered deported are still at large, 341,000 criminal aliens released by ICE without deportation orders are known to be free and at large in the US.  Again, this is cessation of deportations for everyone. They are leaving no illegal behind.</div>

<div>Lie #6: Don’t deport families: Obama is playing the family card. It works like this: people are encouraged to come here illegally, Obama grants them amnesty, then their relatives all get to come, even though they would otherwise be ineligible under public charge laws.  Yet, at the same time, because the bureaucracy will be flooded with applications of illegals, and those are the applications that will be prioritized, those families who came here legally will have to wait longer to be united. There is no longer an incentive to enter the legal immigration process.</div>

<div>Lie #7: They have to pay taxes to stay: Aside from the absurd notion that they would turn someone away for not paying taxes, almost every one of these illegal immigrants lacks a high enough income to incur a net positive tax liability.  Hence, by paying taxes, he actually means they will collect refundable tax credits!</div>
<div></div>
<div>Lie #8: Background Checks: Just the thought of a criminal background check of people coming from the third world on a lawless program is a joke.  But the reality is that Obama has already done this with DACA, and 99.5% of applications were approved, including those of criminals.</div>

<div>Lie #9: Cracking Down on Illegal Immigration at the Border: Obama promises to beef up resources at the border.  But as we’ve seen over the past few years, what good are more agents if they are explicitly intimidated into turning a blind eye.  Moreover, there is no promise to build a fence or implement a visa tracking system, so any talk of enforcement is an insult to our intelligence.  Moreover, he is unilaterally abolishing the Secure Communities program, the only successful interior enforcement program left after he abolished 287g state-federal cooperation in 2012.  At a time when we are facing threats from Islamic terror and deadly diseases, this invitation to the world will present a security nightmare.</div>

<div>Lie #10: Scripture tells us, we shall not oppress a stranger: It’s great to see him quoting the Bible for once, but nice try.  There are different variations of this verse throughout the Bible, but each one uses the Hebrew word “Ger” to describe what Obama translates as “stranger.”  A Ger is a convert to Judaism.  The commandment was not referring to people who illegally migrate to a nation state.  And more importantly, it is downright offensive to Americans to insinuate that not granting them benefits is tantamount to oppression, especially given the fact that they have been the biggest recipients of our generous legal system.  Moreover, if there is oppression taking place it is to the American taxpayer and worker and those who suffer from gangs like MS-13.</div>

<p>Hillary Clinton is the Democratic presidential frontrunner. She&#8217;s also a non-stop gaffe machine. The two don&#8217;t go together too well because Hillary&#8217;s gaffes end up reconfirming the impression of some in her party that she isn&#8217;t progressive enough.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m not sure the party really saw this coming.</p>
<p>Hillary&#8217;s gaffes used to involve telling crazy lies, like being named after Sir Edmund Hillary or coming under fire at the airport. Her new gaffes are less about lies than about being &#8220;almost politically correct&#8221; <a href="http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/hotel-denies-hillarys-claim-employing-illegals_819848.html">but then shooting herself in the foot</a>.</p>
<blockquote><p>The former secretary of state spoke at a gala for the New York Historical Society at the Mandarin Oriental hotel on November 21. During a Q&amp;A session, Clinton, who received an honor from the organization, praised President Obama’s recently announced executive order on immigration that will give around 5 million illegal immigrants legal status. Calling the executive order “historic,” she urged the black-tie crowd to remember that “this is about peoples’ lives.”</p>
<p>“This is about, I would venture to guess, the people who served us tonight, who prepared our food tonight,” Clinton said, according to MSNBC’s Alex Seitz-Wald.</p>
<p>But a spokesperson for the Mandarin Oriental disputes Clinton’s suggestion that the executive order would be extended to any of the hotel’s employees.</p>
<p>“Mandarin Oriental, New York does not knowingly employ illegal and/or undocumented immigrants. We require all employees to provide proof of their eligibility to legally work in the U.S.,” said Tammy Peters, a spokesperson for the hotel, in an email to THE WEEKLY STANDARD. “All wait staff and catering staff are employed through our hotel and we do not use outside contractors for such services.”</p></blockquote>
<p>Not only did Hillary fall into stereotype mode, but she also managed to make herself unwelcome in a hotel. Any hotel that hosts an event she&#8217;s at will now have to worry that she&#8217;ll call the legality of their operations into question.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://cdn.frontpagemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/sa.jpg"><img class="alignleft  wp-image-245837" src="http://cdn.frontpagemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/sa-450x281.jpg" alt="sa" width="317" height="198" /></a>Obama’s executive order granting amnesty to 4 million illegal aliens exposes yet again the hypocrisy and cynicism of the most partisan administration in recent history. Typical of a president who seemingly can’t remember or doesn’t care what he has publicly told the people, Obama went ahead and took action that more than 20 times he had publicly said he couldn’t legally take­­. And he did so not because of some pressing “crisis” of illegals living “in the shadows,” a rationale that ignores the <em>real</em> crisis–– illegal deadbeats and thugs serially passing though a porous border in order to create mayhem and disorder in our communities. Rather, this action was a rank partisan gift to vocal activists and clients of the Democratic Party.</p>
<p>More important, however, this latest instance of presidential overreach undermines the most important foundation of the Western political tradition going back to the ancient Greeks––the suspicion of any necessarily flawed man’s excessive power that inevitably flouts the limits imposed by the supreme law of the land.</p>
<p>In ancient Athens, for example, the <em>turannos</em> or “tyrant” was the exemplar of the dangers that flow from excessive power vested in one person. It wasn’t that the tyrant was completely evil and oppressive. Many Greek tyrants, like the Athenian Peisistratus, benefitted their communities. Yet given human nature, even a well-meaning leader given excessive power often will abuse it to gratify his own selfish desires, ambitions, and interests at the expense of the law and the freedom of his fellow citizens. In ancient Greek political thought, the tyrant became the monitory example of power’s ability to corrupt, and thus often was depicted as violent, paranoid, and excessive in his actions.</p>
<p>The American founders were intimately familiar with this tradition. For them a generalissimo like Julius Caesar, who violated the Roman Republican constitution and ruled as an autocrat until his assassination, was the warning against creating a too powerful executive. One of the most popular Romans of the pre-Revolutionary period was Cato the Younger, who committed suicide rather than submit to Caesar. Joseph Addison’s play <em>Cato</em> was the most popular theatrical production of this period. George Washington had it produced for his troops during the grim winter at Valley Forge, and Patrick Henry’s “Give me liberty, or give me death” was a paraphrase of a line from the play.</p>
<p>Thus when the Declaration of Independence says of George III, “The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States,” the word “Tyranny” is not used lightly or metaphorically. George III is being placed into the long tradition of the tyrant whose oppressive rule, as Aristotle wrote, is “arbitrary power . . . which is responsible to no one, and governs all alike, whether equals or betters, with a view to its own advantage, not to that of its subjects, and therefore against their will. No freeman willingly endures such a government.” That’s why our political ancestors fought the Revolution, and then wrote the Constitution as a safeguard against a future tyrant.</p>
<p>Indeed, in the debates of the delegates to the Constitutional convention, the fear that “power is of an encroaching nature,” as George Washington and others said, guided their crafting of the office of chief executive. In the debate over whether the President should be compensated for his service, Benjamin Franklin feared adding money to the attractions of power the chief executive would possess, “for the love of power and the love of money” when united in one office have “the most violent effects.” Presidential power will attract “the bold and the violent, the men of strong passions and indefatigable activity in their selfish pursuits.” Hence the Constitutional order checks the power of the executive by the legislature and the judiciary, with Congress given the power to make laws and impeach the executive, and the most democratic assembly, the House of Representatives, given the power of the purse in order to deny an overweening president the funds necessary to advance his ambitions. Finally, the states choose the presidential electors who elect the president, giving the states yet another check on presidential power through term limits and the ballot.</p>
<p>The 22<sup>nd</sup> amendment limiting the president to 2 terms is testimony to this traditional distrust of power, particularly because it was passed by Congress in 1947, a few years after the presidency of Franklin Roosevelt, who was a popular president elected 4 times. As Thomas Jefferson said in 1807, when the 2-term limit was a custom initiated by George Washington rather than established by law, “if some termination to the services of the chief Magistrate be not fixed by the Constitution, or supplied by practice, his office, nominally four years, will in fact become for life.” This healthy fear of power continuing in one man’s hands for too long reflected the long tradition of the distrust of power based in turn on a tragic view of a flawed human nature. It explains the great care Alexander Hamilton takes in <em>Federalist</em> 69 to set out the differences between the president and a king, mainly because the former is subjected to numerous limitations on his power, making “difficult to determine whether that magistrate would, in the aggregate, possess more or less power than the Governor of New York.” Most important, this fear of power is the central assumption behind the mixed government and balance of governmental powers characterizing our Constitution.</p>
<p>Obama, of course, has rejected this venerable tradition and embraced that of the Progressive movement. Social and technological change, the Progressives argued, have rendered the Constitutional order an anachronism, making necessary a more powerful executive and federal government. Woodrow Wilson’s 1908 <em>Constitutional Government in the United States</em> set out the arguments for this idea. He complained that the chief executive was “only the legal executive, the presiding and guiding authority in the application of law and the execution of policy . . . He was empowered [by the veto] to prevent laws, but he was not to be given an opportunity to make good ones.” That complaint leads directly to Obama’s eagerness to make “good laws” as defined not by the people through their representatives, but by himself and his political faction.</p>
<p>And just as Obama, by legislating via executive order fiat, has proven he is impatient with the mixed government that puts limits on his policy ambitions, Wilson rejected the balancing of power and conflicting factions codified in the Constitution. Government, Wilson wrote, “is a living, organic thing, and must like every other government, work out the close synthesis of active parts, which exist only when leadership is lodged in some one man or group of men.” Here we see the imperial president’s preference for unaccountable technocrats and “experts” like the mendacious Jonathan Gruber, instead of working with the legislators elected by the people and subject to electoral accountability.</p>
<p>Finally, Obama has governed based on the Wilsonian preference for concentrating executive power rather than submitting it to Constitutional checks and balances. “You cannot compound a successful government out of antagonisms,” Wilson wrote. Of course, in Wilson’s view “successful” is defined as solving technical problems or achieving an ideologically biased “social justice,” unlike the Founders, who thought a successful federal government is the one that keeps separate the executive, legislative, and judicial powers and thus protects the freedom of the citizens. And instead of the Constitution’s realist acknowledgement that a vast country of various interests cannot be unified in one leader without risking the people’s freedom, Wilson wrote that we must “look to the President as the unifying force in our complex system, the leader both of his party and of the nation.” The question begged, of course, is unified around what? Which interests or ideals? In reality, they will be reduced to those of one faction that will come to dominate the others, backed by the coercive power of the federal government and its cadres of unelected administrators and bureaucrats.</p>
<p>Obama has governed explicitly as such a “leader.” On every issue from the environment and health care to immigration––87 pages worth of executive diktats–– he has reduced the various and conflicting interests and ideals of the citizens and states to those of his own party and its progressive ideology. But this usurpation of power has come at the expense of state and individual political rights and freedom, not to mention the undermining of the Constitutional order designed explicitly to protect those rights and freedoms.</p>
<p>Obama has set a precedent that, if left unchecked, will be tempting for other presidents to follow, taking us even further down the road of tyranny. From ancient Athens to the Founders to those traditionalists today who understand the primacy of freedom in the architecture of our political order, such a leader has been characterized by one word––tyrant.</p>

<p>While Obama is still making ridiculous promises of border security that are as credible as a crack addict promising that this will be his last go at the crack pipe, the actual liberal infrastructure is prepping for what&#8217;s really coming.</p>
<p>A horrifyingly <a href="http://nypost.com/2014/11/23/city-schools-warned-of-plans-to-enroll-2350-migrant-children/">massive flood of illegal aliens</a> attracted to amnesty like wasps to human sweat.</p>
<blockquote><p>New York has sent a warning to its schools: Expect more illegal immigrants.</p>
<p>The city Department of Education has told principals it plans this year to enroll 2,350 migrant children from Central America who crossed into the United States unaccompanied — with many more to come.</p>
<p>“It is expected that children will continue to arrive in large numbers in the coming years,” says a DOE memo to principals obtained by The Post.</p></blockquote>
<p>And why would we expect that? Right, amnesty.</p>
<p>2,350 new students (whose parents don&#8217;t pay into the system and are free riders) sounds like a lot, but it&#8217;s a drop in the bucket of acid rain.</p>
<blockquote><p>The recent arrivals join an estimated 350,000 children of illegal immigrants already in New York state — about 12 percent of the public-school population.</p></blockquote>
<p>The numbers are obviously a lot worse in the city. New York City at the bottom already looks like Texas or California.</p>

<p>Oh sorry, that was Obama circa 2006. Or Obama 1.0. I think we&#8217;re on Obama 3.0 now. You know, the one who is for gay marriage, bombing Iraq and forcing nuns to fund abortions. Also really fond of executive abuses of power.</p>
<p>Never mind<a href="http://dailycaller.com/2014/11/16/shock-flashback-obama-says-illegal-immigration-hurts-blue-collar-americans-strains-welfare-video/"> what he said back then</a>.</p>
<blockquote><p>“[T]here’s no denying that many blacks share the same anxieties as many whites about the wave of illegal immigration flooding our Southern border—a sense that what’s happening now is fundamentally different from what has gone on before,” then-Senator Obama wrote in his 2006 autobiography, “The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream.”</p>
<p>”Not all these fears are irrational,” he wrote.</p>
<p>“The number of immigrants added to the labor force every year is of a magnitude not seen in this country for over a century,” Obama noted. “If this huge influx of mostly low-skill workers provides some benefits to the economy as a whole—especially by keeping our workforce young, in contrast to an increasingly geriatric Europe and Japan—it also threatens to depress further the wages of blue-collar Americans and put strains on an already overburdened safety net.”</p>
<p>“Native-born Americans suspect that it is they, and not the immigrant, who are being forced to adapt” to social changes caused by migration, he said.</p>
<p>“And if I’m honest with myself, I must admit that I’m not entirely immune to such nativist sentiments,” Obama wrote. “When I see Mexican flags waved at pro-immigration demonstrations, I sometimes feel a flush of patriotic resentment. When I’m forced to use a translator to communicate with the guy fixing my car, I feel a certain frustration.”</p></blockquote>
<p>The only real lesson here is that Obama succeeded in part because he was good at mirroring the emotions that he thought his audience was feeling. The coldness that so many of his supporters complain about is the effect of what happens when the con artist stops mirroring and the imaginary relationship collapses.</p>
<p>Think of the actor ending his performance.</p>
<p>Obama pretended to care about blue collar workers and foreign flags so he could get into power. Now he doesn&#8217;t have to pretend.</p>

		<title>Congress Needs Its Own Hippocratic Oath</title>

We can now all exhale.</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">While the media makes much of how members of both the Senate and House of Representatives have left Washington without accomplishing anything, I would offer a different perspective.</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">Let&#8217;s be fair: everyone who works is entitled to vacation &#8212; even members of Congress.</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">Here are some additional things to consider. When Congress is not in session they cannot do harm to America or Americans at the behest of their respective political party bosses or their deep-pocketed contributors or special interest groups and their lobbyist who promise to deliver blocks of votes.</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">When members of Congress go home they will hopefully, take some time out to meet with their constituents. This is at least as important as having them convene hearings which, having testified before so many of those hearings, myself, I have often lamented that perhaps instead of hearings they should conduct “<em>listenings</em>.”</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">I often wonder how many people who are disdainful and contemptuous of Congress have ever actually met with, or attempted to set up a meeting with, his (her) elected representative. In all fairness, not unlike other people, members of Congress cannot read minds. Also, human nature being what it is, when politicians don&#8217;t hear from their constituents they may presume that their constituents are not particularly displeased with how they are being represented. In any event, the slogan “Out of sight-out of mind” certainly does apply.</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">Therefore a significant part of the blame for the mess America is in today can be traced back to lazy and uninformed citizens, who not only are likely to not vote, and do not make an effort to truly understand the issues. This is exacerbated by Americans who likely don&#8217;t even know the names of the politicians who are <i>supposed</i> to represent them on the city, state or federal levels, let alone contacted them to discuss their concerns and ideas.</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">When we go to a restaurant we are generally very specific about the meal we want to eat and how we want it prepared. No one would walk into a restaurant and tell the waiter or waitress, “Just throw some crap on my plate you think I should eat, and I will gladly eat it!”</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">If the meal that is served is not to our liking we will most probably send it back. If that doesn&#8217;t work, we are likely to “vote with our feet” and walk out the door of that restaurant and never return.</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">We must be no less specific or demanding in articulating our concerns with our elected representatives as we are when placing an order with those waiters and waitresses.</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">Let&#8217;s now contemplate the accusation that the Congress has not accomplished much. I, for one, would actually take issue with this charge. Voting down bad legislation is not a failure to accomplish something, it is an example of using proper discretion to save us from some terrible legislation and the damage it would do to America and Americans.</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">The pressure is on for passage of Comprehensive Immigration Reform. Journalists on virtually every news program have been beating the drum for this legislative train wreck making all sorts of extravagant and wrong-headed claims about the wonders Comprehensive Immigration Reform and how much America needs it.</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">To quote my late parents, “We need Comprehensive Immigration Reform like we need a hole in the head!”</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">There are many who would profit from that legislation, but they are not the average American workers or their families. Indeed, American workers would be harmed by this legislation that would provide corporations with a virtually inexhaustible supply of cheap and compliant labor. While most people focus on how this program would provide unknown millions of heretofore illegal foreign workers with lawful status and official identity documents so that they could compete with tens of millions of unemployed or underemployed American and lawful immigrant workers &#8212; mostly for low paying jobs &#8212; Comprehensive Immigration Reform would also provide for many more H-1B visas which would apply downward pressure on wages and working conditions for highly educated and highly skilled American professionals such as computer programmers, engineers and technicians.</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">I have addressed the issue about the profiteers of immigration in several articles I have written for a number of websites and publications including my previous article for FrontPage Magazine, <span style="color: #011480;"><a href="http://www.frontpagemag.com/2014/michael-cutler/immigration-reform-engineered-destruction-of-the-middle-class/">“Immigration ‘Reform’: Engineered Destruction of the Middle Class”</a> </span><span style="color: #011480;"><i>(</i></span><span style="color: #000000;"><i>The real reason high-tech titans are lining up behind the amnesty effort)</i> which was published on July 22, 2014.</span></p>
<p>Additionally, the winter 2014 edition of the quarterly journal, “The Social Contract” included my article: <a href="http://www.thesocialcontract.com/pdf/twentyfour-two/tsc_24_2_cutler.pdf"><span style="color: #1255cc;">&#8220;American Dream Being Sold at Auction &#8211; America’s Middle Class to Be Put on Endangered Species List&#8221;</span></a></p>
<p style="color: #232323;">Congress acted wisely and did not accede to the demands of the “President who would be king.”</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">He has bullied and threatened to once again use his pen to write more executive orders and policy memoranda to circumvent the legislative process that is an integral part of how our democratic republic is to conduct business as per that document Obama taught his students when he was a college instructor, the Constitution of the United States.</p>
<p>On June 17, 2012 Fox News posted my Op-Ed, <a href="http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/politics/2012/06/17/obama-invokes-prosecutorial-discretion-to-circumvent-constitution-and-congress/"><span style="color: #386eff;">&#8220;Obama Invokes Prosecutorial Discretion to Circumvent Constitution and Congress.&#8221;</span></a> I wrote it in response to the speech the president made two days earlier in the White House Rose Garden when he addressed a press conference and claimed “prosecutorial discretion” to justify essentially enacting a temporary version of the DREAM Act without the benefit of legislation. In my article I stated that he had not used prosecutorial discretion but “prosecutorial <em>deception</em>.&#8221;</p>
<p>Perhaps he needs to be reminded that our government is a democratic republic and not a thugocracy.</p>
<p style="color: #232323;">In any event, a sufficient number of members in the House of Representatives refused to be bullied and resisted the extreme pressure applied by so many to pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform.</p>
<p>Most medical doctors take the “<a href="http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/body/hippocratic-oath-today.html"><span style="color: #386eff;">Hippocratic Oath</span></a>” when they graduate from medical school, to provide them with a moral compass to guide them in their practice of medicine, concerning how they will treat their patients.</p>
<p>“<b><i>I will keep them from harm and injustice.”</i></b></p>
<p>The classic version of that oath contains a sentence that should be added to the oaths of office for all of our elected officials, but rather than apply to patients, as it does for medical practitioners, it should apply to the constituents, the American citizens our politicians are elected to represent.</p>
<p style="color: #232323;"><span style="color: #000000;">Moreover, that elegant ph</span>rase also eloquently describes what must be the goals of all of our laws, especially our immigration laws where the citizens of this great nation are concerned.</p>

		<title>Immigration and America’s Failure of Nerve</title>

		<description><![CDATA[How a nation abandoned the principles and habits that made immigration work for it in the past.]]></description>
				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://cdn.frontpagemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/br.jpg"><img class="alignleft  wp-image-234060" src="http://cdn.frontpagemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/br-450x288.jpg" alt="br" width="316" height="202" /></a>The number of unaccompanied children from Central America into the U.S. has reached 47,000 since October, and may hit 90,000 by the end of this year. The official story is that they are fleeing drug-gang mayhem and political violence in their home countries, and so are refugees and asylum-seekers. But the Guatemalan ambassador has said they are seeking economic opportunity and the “American dream.” It’s hard, however, not to see a connection with Obama’s 2012 Deferred Action for Arrivals Program, which defers deportation for illegal aliens who are minors. Obama enacted by executive fiat––and just recently extended for 2 years––this open invitation to illegal minors when Congress proved unwilling to pass the Dream Act legislation.</p>
<p>This sudden surge of illegal immigrants couldn’t help but remind me of Jean Raspail’s 1973 dystopian novel <em>The Camp of the Saints.</em> In the story millions of impoverished Third World people, starting in India, highjack ships and begin sailing to the south of France. Once they land they swarm the rich Côte d’Azur while the French flee in panic to the north. Most interesting are Raspail’s descriptions of why this mass invasion happened––as the inevitable suicidal response of a people who no longer believe in their own civilization’s ideals or principles. The French consul in India, for example, chastising the Catholic bishop who approves of the mass immigration and says he is proud to be “bearing witness,” retorts, “Bearing witness to what? To your faith? Your religion? To your Christian civilization? Oh no, none of that! Bearing witness against yourselves, like the anti-Western cynics you’ve become. Do you think the poor devils that flock to your side aren’t any the wiser? Nonsense! They see right through you. For them, white skin means weak convictions. They know how weak yours are, they know you’ve given in.”</p>
<p>For nearly 3 decades we have undergone a slow-motion version of Raspail’s parable. In 1969 there were an estimated half a million illegal immigrants in the U.S.; today the low-end estimate is 11,500,000. There are many explanations for this increase. Perverse incentives such as the 1986 amnesty and Obama’s Deferred Action for Arrivals Program, the need for cheap workers for jobs Americans don’t want to do, and the Democrats’ hunger for political clients all explain this increase. But as always, bad policies are created by bad ideas. The problems of immigration, whether legal or illegal, are in part created, and definitely worsened, by the erosion of national and civilizational identity and pride that Raspail dramatizes in his novel.</p>
<p>As with the Europeans in Raspail’s story, these problems reflect a civilizational failure of nerve. We Americans enjoy the material and cultural capital of our ancestors even as we embrace a fashionable self-loathing and guilt over presumed Western crimes like imperialism, colonialism, and racism. No longer believing that our political, social, and cultural orders are better than the alternatives, we too have “given in,” surrendered to the specious cultural relativism that proclaims all cultures equally valuable even as it demonizes our own as the font of all oppression and injustice. As a result, we have abandoned the principles and habits that made immigration work in the past.</p>
<p>Around the turn of the 20<sup>th</sup> century America was inundated with millions of immigrants from countries that many Americans believed were alien to our cultural and political order, and yet most successfully assimilated and enriched their new homes. Some 30 million immigrants entered the U.S. between 1870 and 1930, most of them Slavs, Italians, and Jews from Eastern Europe. By 1890 15% of Americans were foreign born, compared to 13% today. This admission of what some Americans considered people alien to the Northern European ethnic foundations of the country led to the Emergency Quota Law of 1921. This bill limited the number of immigrants to 350,000 and set nationality quotas, with immigration from a country capped at 3% of the population of that nationality based on the 1910 census. The effect, given the ethnic origins of the majority of Americans in countries like England and Germany, was to reduce immigration from eastern and southern Europe in favor of immigrants from Northern Europe.</p>
<p>This obsession with race and ethnicity, which reflected the Darwinian and Progressive racist “scientific consensus” of the 1920s that also created the eugenics movement, confused and distorted the issue of immigration. For as the descendants of that great wave of immigration of the late 19<sup>th</sup> and early 20<sup>th</sup> centuries show, race or ethnicity was not as important as culture. For just as anybody can learn any language, any human can learn to live by the mores, customs, principles, and laws of any culture. My maternal grandparents were some of those southern Italians that many Americans thought were alien invaders unfit to be Americans. My grandfather came through Ellis Island in 1906, and was officially designated by the U.S. government as an illiterate peasant. Yet all his progeny are unmistakably American, indistinguishable from their compatriots descended from Northern Europe.</p>
<p>The difference between then and now is that we have adopted a variation of 1920s racialist ideology––the multicultural identity politics that demonizes assimilation to American identity while it demands reparations for historical crimes against and public celebrations of immigrant cultures as superior to American. Back in my grandparents’ day things were different. Immigrants were expected to work at becoming Americans, which meant learning English, American political principles and virtues, American history and heroes, and American customs and mores. Whatever their private beliefs and practices, in their role as citizens immigrants had to acknowledge that America was not just different from their homes countries, but in some crucial respects––political freedom and economic opportunity, to name a few–– superior. Otherwise, why did they make the difficult and traumatic journey to America?</p>
<p>To speak this way now, however, is to be called xenophobic, jingoistic, or racist. Being proud of your country is bad form for native-born Americans, so why should immigrants be expected to prefer their new home to their old? As victims of our crimes, they deserve for us to cater to their cultures, instead of them adjusting to America’s. And so we come back to the central pathology underlying not just immigration but much of our foreign policy as well––too many of our elites doubt the goodness of America, sneer at any claims of its superiority, and are guilty over its alleged global crimes and oppression. We have institutionalized in our popular culture, media, and schools a failure of nerve that saps our cultural confidence and leaves us unable to defend our way of life and demand that those who come here legally or otherwise embrace our political ideals and social mores. As a result, we ignore our own immigration laws, and contemplate yet another blanket amnesty that would spur even more illegal immigration.</p>
<p>Any sort of immigration cannot work in these conditions. Indeed, millions of immigrants, including illegal ones, are assimilating and becoming Americans all on their own, without the cultural support our public institutions used to give. The problem is, millions more aren’t, without suffering any consequences, including deportation if they are here illegally. Meanwhile politicians from both parties keep pushing “immigration reform,” i.e. amnesty, without addressing the critical question of how are we going to sort out and help those who have shown they want to become Americans, from those who prefer to keep their old identities no matter how incompatible or with, or even hostile to, America’s political and social order. Until we answer that crucial question, which will require a renewed confidence in what it means to be an American and a restored willingness to enforce that vision, illegal immigration will remain a festering problem.</p>

<p>First the taxpayers pay for the public defenders who will keep the illegal aliens from being deported. Then they&#8217;ll pay for the illegal aliens. Then they&#8217;ll pay for their public defenders on their next appearance in court on drunk driving, rape or burglary charges.</p>
<p><a href="http://blazingcatfur.blogspot.com/2014/05/us-public-defender-system-for.html">What&#8217;s not to like about that</a>?</p>
<blockquote><p>Every year, tens of thousands of people appear in immigration court to fight deportation orders without a lawyer to assist them. Many are poor and adrift, unable to speak English or understand the laws determining their fate.</p>
<p>Were indigent immigrants to face prosecution in the nation’s federal criminal courts, they would have the right to a lawyer at the government’s expense. But nothing in the law provides such a benefit in immigration court.</p>
<p>For years, immigration lawyers and other supporters have pressed to change this. On Friday, the New York City Bar Association plans to release a study contending that cost should not be an obstacle to the creation of a public defender system, paid for by the federal government, for indigent immigrants facing deportation.</p></blockquote>
<p>Do liberals believe that cost should be an obstacle to anything except middle class tax cuts and providing veterans with health care?</p>
<blockquote><p>It estimates that a system that provided legal counsel for every poor immigrant facing deportation would cost about $208 million per year.</p></blockquote>
<p>$208 million? Why that&#8217;s nothing. That&#8217;s an Obama vacation.</p>
<blockquote><p>The study argues that if all poor immigrants facing deportation were provided with legal counsel, the savings would be huge and immediate.</p></blockquote>
<p>To the lawyers representing them it certainly would be. But look for this to be the next bid. It&#8217;s perfect liberalism. It creates a sinecure for liberal lawyers and makes it hard to deport illegal Democratic Party voters.</p>

A government that fails to care for our men and women on the frontlines is guilty of malpractice. A government that puts the needs of illegal aliens above U.S. veterans for political gain should be prosecuted for criminal neglect bordering on treason.</p>
<p>Compare, contrast and weep:</p>
<p>In Sacramento, Calif., lawmakers are moving forward with a budget-busting plan to extend government-funded health insurance to at least 1.5 million illegal aliens.</p>
<p>In Los Angeles, federal bureaucrats callously canceled an estimated 40,000 diagnostic tests and treatments for American veterans with cancer and other illnesses to cover up a decade-long backlog.</p>
<p>In New York, doctors report that nearly 40 percent of their patients receiving kidney dialysis are illegal aliens. A survey of nephrologists in 44 states revealed that 65 percent of them treat illegal aliens with kidney disease.</p>
<p>In Memphis, a VA whistleblower reported that his hospital was using contaminated kidney dialysis machines to treat America&#8217;s warriors. The same hospital previously had been investigated for chronic overcrowding at its emergency room, leading to six-hour waits or longer. Another watchdog probe found unconscionable delays in processing lab tests at the center. In addition, three patients died under negligent circumstances, and the hospital failed to enforce accountability measures.</p>
<p>In Arizona, illegal aliens incurred health care costs totaling an estimated $700 million in 2009.</p>
<p>In Phoenix, at least 40 veterans died waiting for VA hospitals and clinics to treat them, while government officials created secret waiting lists to cook the books and deceive the public about deadly treatment delays.</p>
<p>At the University of California at Berkeley, UC President Janet Napolitano (former secretary of the Department of Homeland Security) has offered $5 million in financial aid to illegal alien students. Across the country, 16 states offer in-state tuition discounts for illegal aliens: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington.</p>
<p>In addition, the Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education, the University of Hawaii Board of Regents and the University of Michigan Board of Regents all approved their own illegal alien tuition benefits.</p>
<p>In 2013, the nation&#8217;s most selective colleges and universities had enrolled just 168 American veterans, down from 232 in 2011. Anti-war activists have waged war on military recruitment offices at elite campuses for years. The huge influx of illegal aliens in state universities is shrinking the number of state-subsidized slots for vets.</p>
<p>In 2013, the Obama Department of Homeland Security released 36,007 known, convicted criminal illegal aliens, according to the Center for Immigration Studies. The catch-and-release beneficiaries include thugs convicted of homicide, sexual assault, kidnapping, and thousands of drunk or drugged driving crimes.</p>
<p>The same Department of Homeland Security issued a report in 2009 that identified returning combat veterans as worrisome terrorist and criminal threats to America.</p>
<p>In Washington, Big Business and open-borders lobbyists are redoubling efforts to pass another massive illegal alien amnesty to flood the U.S. job market with low-wage labor.</p>
<p>Across the country, men and women in uniform returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan have higher jobless rates than the civilian population. The unemployment rate for new veterans has spiked to its worst levels, nearing 15 percent. For veterans ages 24 and under, the jobless rate is a whopping 29.1 percent, compared to 17.6 percent nationally for the age group.</p>
<p>A Forbes columnist reported last year that an Air Force veteran was told: &#8220;We don&#8217;t hire your kind.&#8221;</p>
<p>And last December, Democrats led the charge to reduce cost-of-living increases in military pensions — while blocking GOP Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions&#8217; efforts to close a $4.2 billion loophole that allows illegal aliens to collect child tax credits from the IRS, even if they pay no taxes. The fraudulent payments to illegal aliens would have offset the cuts to veterans&#8217; benefits.</p>
<p>America: medical and welfare welcome mat to the rest of the world, while leavings its best and bravest veterans to languish in hospital lounges, die waiting for appointments, and compete for jobs and educational opportunities against illegal border-crossers, document fakers, visa violators and deportation evaders. Shame on us.</p>

<blockquote><p>Criminal illegal aliens released by the Obama administration between 2009 and 2011 went on to be charged with 19 murders, three attempted murders and 142 sex crimes, a House Judiciary Committee report previously documented.</p>
<p>The statistics pose a grim outlook for the 36,007 additional criminal illegal aliens reportedly released last year by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, or ICE.</p></blockquote>
<p>At the very least it means another 42 sexual assaults courtesy of Barack Obama. And that&#8217;s in the short term.</p>
<blockquote><p>On Monday, a Center for Immigration Studies report found that in 2013, ICE again released violent criminals, this time including murderers, rapists, kidnappers and drug dealers.</p>
<p>The statistics show ICE released illegals jailed for 9,187 dangerous drug infractions, 426 sexual assault convictions, 303 kidnapping convictions, 193 homicide convictions, 1,317 domestic violence convictions and 1,075 aggravated assault convictions.</p></blockquote>
<p>I&#8217;m sure none of those illegal aliens responsible for kidnapping and sexual assault will target women again.</p>

<blockquote><p>The Obama administration delivered an unequivocally clear message — again — on Thursday: All children have a right to enroll in public schools regardless of their citizenship or immigration status.</p>
<p>For example, schools can violate federal law by requiring Social Security numbers or birth certificates when a student wants to enroll.</p></blockquote>
<p>The first mark on the letterhead is Holder&#8217;s criminal DOJ illegal alien lobby.</p>
<p>&#8220;To comply with these Federal civil rights laws, as well as the mandates of the Supreme Court, you must ensure that you do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or national origin, and that students are not barred from enrolling in public schools at the elementary and secondary level on the basis of their own citizenship or immigration status or that of their parents or guardians,&#8221; Obama Inc. warns schools.</p>
<p>&#8220;Similarly, we are aware that many districts request a student’s social security number at enrollment for use as a student identification number. A district may not deny enrollment to a student if he or she (or his or her parent or guardian) chooses not to provide a social security number.&#8221;</p>
<p>Obama Inc. is relying on the Supreme Court&#8217;s <em>Plyler v. Doe</em> which was itself a ridiculously unfounded decision as it claimed that the 14th Amendment banned limiting school access to children legally in the United States.</p>
<p>The absurdity of the ruling becomes obvious since schools are still allowed to ask for proof of district residency, but not legal residency in the United States. If the latter is a violation of the 14th amendment, then so is the former.</p>
<p>The Plyer decision explicitly emphasized that it expected these children to stay in the United States and gain legal status. The Obama Inc. threat letter does the same.</p>
<p>It was essentially an Open Borders argument. It still is.</p>

<p><a href="http://iowntheworld.com/blog/?p=231851">That seems like a reasonable move,</a> but why stop there. What about seeking out rapists and murderers as teachers in the classroom? Just think of how much that criminal element could contribute to the educational process.</p>
<blockquote><p>Denver Public Schools administrators believe they are the first school district in the nation to actively seek out people who were initially brought to the United States illegally to now teach in the classroom.</p></blockquote>
<p>Finally, Denver PS came up with an idea so terrible that no one had through it before. It was a proud moment.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;We look forward to increasing the number of great teachers who are in our classrooms and who are also role models for children who have similar cultural backgrounds and life experiences,&#8221; Tom Boasberg, superintendent of Denver Public Schools, said.</p>
<p>DPS is working with Teach for America to bring people with an official status of &#8220;Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals&#8221; as determined by the federal government.</p>
<p>Denver has a significant population of students who are undocumented, and Boasberg believes this effort will help serve those families.</p></blockquote>
<p>Teach for America was originally started to recruit high end college grads to teach in public schools. <a href="http://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2013/09/i-quit-teach-for-america/279724/">That didn&#8217;t go so well</a>, so now it&#8217;s recruiting illegal aliens.</p>
<p>Next stop, homeless teachers.</p>

I knew it was coming. When government expands entitlements, illegal aliens always end up with a piece of the pie. Obamacare promoters relented to GOP pressure to include an illegal alien ban on eligibility and vowed endlessly that no benefits would go to the &#8220;undocumented.&#8221; But denial isn&#8217;t just a river in Egypt. It&#8217;s the Obama way.</p>
<p>In Oregon this week, officials confessed that nearly 4,000 illegal immigrants had been &#8220;accidentally&#8221; steered from the state&#8217;s low-income Medicaid program and instead were enrolled in Obamacare in violation of the law. Oopsie. The Oregonian newspaper&#8217;s Nick Budnick reported that the health bureaucrats &#8220;discovered the problem several weeks ago and are correcting it.&#8221; Get in line. The beleaguered Cover Oregon health insurance exchange has been riddled with ongoing problems, errors and glitches since last October that have yet to be fixed.</p>
<p>Take note: This wasn&#8217;t a one-time computer meltdown. Because Oregon&#8217;s health insurance exchange website has been offline and its software architects under investigation for possible fraud, the Oregon Obamacare drones have been processing each and every application manually. That means nearly 4,000 illegal alien applications with &#8220;inaccurate&#8221; data somehow passed through government hands and somehow ended up getting routed through as new enrollees with Obamacare-approved full-service health care.</p>
<p>How many Obamacare services did these nearly 4,000 illegal aliens avail themselves of, and at what cost?</p>
<p>Does anyone believe the same incompetent boobs who enrolled them will be able to track down the nearly 4,000 illegal alien beneficiaries, &#8220;correct&#8221; the &#8220;errors&#8221; and ensure that it doesn&#8217;t happen again?</p>
<p>What a slap in the face to the millions of law-abiding Americans who have lost their health care coverage and work hours thanks to Democratic-sponsored federal health care regulatory burdens and mandate costs.</p>
<p>One Oregon Obamacare manager defended the unlawful illegal alien enrollment by explaining: &#8220;We were just getting people into the services.&#8221; And there&#8217;s the rub. The imperative of these government social engineers is to herd as many &#8220;clients&#8221; into taxpayer-subsidized programs as possible. Just last week, Obama&#8217;s Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson publicized an open letter to families with illegal alien relatives promising that no one would be deported for seeking Obamacare services.</p>
<p>&#8220;No one in America who is eligible should be afraid to apply for health coverage because they have a family with mixed status,&#8221; Johnson assured.</p>
<p>And in another sign of how the White House is still planning for mass illegal alien amnesty, Johnson also made clear: &#8220;Enrolling in health coverage &#8230; will not prevent your loved ones who are undocumented from getting a green card in the future or who do not yet have a green card at risk.&#8221;</p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">As always, California Democrats are at the forefront of busting open Obamacare for the illegal alien population. Earlier this month, Democratic state Sen. Ricardo Lara introduced a bill to extend health benefits and a special online marketplace to one million illegals under an Obamacare-style program subsidized by state taxpayer dollars.</span></p>
<p>In case you forgot, President Obama had already paved the path for illegal alien Obamacare when he signed the massive expansion of the State Children&#8217;s Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP) in 2009. As I&#8217;ve reported previously, the law loosened eligibility requirements for legal immigrants and their children by watering down document and evidentiary standards — making it easy for individuals to use fake Social Security cards to apply for benefits with little to no chance of getting caught. In addition, Obama&#8217;s S-CHIP expansion revoked Medicaid application time limits that were part of the 1996 welfare reform law.</p>
<p>Open-borders activists saw those provisions as first steps toward universal health coverage for illegals. They see America as the medical welcome mat to the world. Over the past year, they&#8217;ve ratcheted up public protests demanding free organ transplants for illegal alien patients. In Chicago last fall, they marched on a hospital with caskets and posters demanding scarce organs. One illegal alien blasted authorities for putting &#8220;paper over our lives.&#8221; In California, illegal alien transplant patients count on federal incompetence and lax enforcement to abet them, because if they notify the state that DHS &#8220;is aware of their presence and does not plan to deport them,&#8221; they are eligible for full-blown Medi-Cal coverage, according to the state.</p>
<p>Now, Obamacare peddlers from Oregon to New York and all points in between are rushing to sign up new &#8220;customers&#8221; in advance of the March 31 open enrollment deadline. How many more thousands of illegal aliens will be roped into the system? Remember: In the lexicon of the left, &#8220;accidental&#8221; is just another word for inevitable entitlement creep.</p>

The latest news has the Speaker putting off any action for now, and waiting until after the midterm elections in order not to anger the anti-amnesty base, and “to goose Latino turnout or to swing purple districts” in 2016, as political blogger <a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2014/02/06/emerging-house-gop-consensus-on-immigration-wait-til-next-year">Allahpundit</a> put it. In other words, electoral timing rather than principle is determining what happens.</p>
<p>But principle, not to mention common sense, is what’s at stake here. Anyone proposing “comprehensive” anything after the debacle of Obamacare is delusional. Complex problems are not going to be solved with grandiose legislation that tries to politically please everybody. Nor are most sensible voters likely once again to play Charlie Brown to the Congressional Lucy jerking away the promised “enforcement triggers” and “border security” football after the de facto amnesty is already in place. We went through all that in 1986, when the same promises of employer checks of legal residency and beefed-up border security were broken, more than doubling the number of illegal immigrants from 5 million to 11 million today.</p>
<p>And please, let’s stop all the delusional dreams of Hispanic “natural conservatives” flocking to the GOP after the boon of amnesty is bestowed upon them. John McCain partnered with Teddy Kennedy in 2005 and 2007 to craft legislation to create a “path to citizenship,” and still got half as many Hispanic votes (31%) as Barack Obama did in 2008. By the way, McCain beat Mitt “self-deport” Romney by a whole 4 points with Hispanic voters. Voters vote their interests, and the interests of the majority of Hispanic voters are best served by the Democrats, as evidenced by the fact that 75% percent favor a “bigger government providing more services,” according to a <a href="http://www.pewhispanic.org/2012/04/04/v-politics-values-and-religion/">Pew</a> poll. That’s why the best a Republican candidate has done with Hispanics, George W. Bush in 2004, was still 18 points behind the Democrat John Kerry, one of the least likable and most incompetent candidates since Mike Dukakis. To think that being nice will trump those interests is nonsense. And any gain that might accrue is likely to be offset by losses among the base angered at such pandering.</p>
<p>Also ridiculous is the fear that not doing <i>something</i> will allow Democrats to tar Republicans with the racism or xenophobia brush. Here’s a newsflash: they are going to do that no matter what Republicans do. The “preemptive cringe” as Margaret Thatcher called it is the worst form of defense. The only way not to be labeled “racist,” or accused of waging a “war against women,” is to give the liberals everything they want. Rather than give in to such threats, go on offense with data detailing the enormous costs of illegal immigration in states like California. Take those hidden cameras into San Joaquin Valley emergency rooms on Saturday night, the jails and prisons, the Social Security Disability office, the stores and groceries accepting EBT cards, and the small towns stricken with hit-and-run drivers, drunk drivers, county roads turned into dumps, unregulated buildings and restaurants, and rampant theft.</p>
<p>Of course, there are numerous illegal aliens and their children who are hard-working, law-abiding, and eager to become Americans, not remain Mexican at heart while they benefit from America’s opportunity and freedom. Having lived 60 years in the San Joaquin Valley and experienced immigration legal and otherwise long before tony liberals discovered this issue, I have known many such immigrants. But in the immigration debate today, all we hear are the feel-good stories about hard-working family-values Hispanics, and nothing about the other side of the coin: the thug, the welfare leech, the thief, the law-breaker, and the gang-banger. If we are going to debate this issue honestly, then let’s talk about the whole reality rather than ignoring the side that doesn’t advance our political interest, whether this be more Democrat voters and welfare clients, or more cheap labor. Then explain how amnesty is going to change that behavior and lower those costs.</p>
<p>Moreover, let’s demand that the amnesty crowd explain exactly how they plan to sort out those two sets of illegal immigrants, the ones we should keep and the ones we need to kick out. Expel the felons? OK, then start with the tens of thousands already housed in American prisons. But why stop at felons? Anyone with a DUI should be gone, anyone determined to have illegally received welfare benefits or food stamps or Social Security Disability Insurance should be gone. Anyone in possession of a fraudulent Social Security Card should be gone. Anyone caught driving without a license or insurance should be gone. Anyone using hospital emergency rooms as a doctor’s office for minor ailments should be gone. And anyone who thinks I’m making up racist slanders needs to take a tour of the San Joaquin Valley and see the reality too many people pretend does not exist.</p>
<p>If the Republicans want to start doing something about immigration, then build a fence on the border, period. And don’t tell me it’s impossible. In the 14<sup>th</sup> Century the Ming Dynasty in China built 5,500 miles of the Great Wall using nothing but animal and human muscle power. Don’t tell me the country that between 1940 and 1944 increased military aircraft annual production from 3660 to 96,300, that in 1942 was producing 4,000 Sherman tanks a month, 70 years later can’t fence off the 1933 miles of border between Mexico and the U.S.</p>
<p>Do that first, and when the border is secure, then start talking about what to do with the 11 million illegal aliens. Meanwhile, reform our immigration policies by getting rid of family reunification programs, and making admission to this country conditional on what the immigrant has to offer Americans, not what Americans have to offer immigrants. Start enforcing labor laws and putting teeth into sanctions against violating them. And most important, start returning to the old model of immigration that made it work for most of American history: assimilation to American political principles and virtues, facility in speaking English, and a rejection of self-loathing multicultural nonsense about American guilt and the superiority of the countries immigrants risk their lives to leave.</p>

<p>The biggest thing for anyone on the left or the right to beware of is the assumption that if we push Lever X, people will predictably do Task Y.</p>
<p>The entire Great Society disaster and every liberal proposal afterward has been a master class in demonstrating that trying to manipulate people often produces entirely unexpected results, despite a supposedly reliable system of incentives.</p>
<p><a href="http://dailycaller.com/2014/01/10/12-an-hour-is-conservative-rocket-fuel-says-ron-unz/">And that&#8217;s the problem here</a>.</p>
<blockquote><p>A nationwide minimum wage of $12 per hour would shrink government, aid families, curb illegal immigration, spur high-tech investment, and boost GOP support among working-class voters, says Ron Unz, the California libertarian entrepreneur who wiped out his state’s Spanish-only K-12 classes.</p>
<p>The $12 wage would slash the huge taxpayer subsidies now given to companies that hire low-wage immigrants, and move tens of millions of Americans into the middle class and sharply reduce the 47 percent of the population who are now completely or partly dependent on federal handouts, Unz told The Daily Caller.</p>
<p>The plan is also likely to get traction because it offers the public a good-news alternative to the business-backed campaign to triple the inflow of low-skill immigrant labor during the next decade. If implemented, the $12 alternative plan would instead flood American businesses with Americans who have dropped out of the workforce, and also push low-skilled illegals to the sidelines and eventually south of the border, he says.</p></blockquote>
<p>It&#8217;s an interesting &#8216;out of the box&#8217; proposal and I believe that Republicans do need to do a much better job of engaging lower income voters, though less so in California than in Pennsylvania or Ohio, but plans like these produce less predictable results.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not as if we have a surplus of jobs to begin with. Yes there are too many people illegitimately claiming benefits or just dropping out of the workforce, but it&#8217;s not 1994. The economy is terrible and we don&#8217;t have nearly enough jobs.</p>
<p>An expanded minimum wage will mean businesses cutting jobs, instead of creating new ones. The argument that an expanded minimum wage will boost businesses that are operating with minimum wage workers and catering to low income consumers because they will have more to spend is debatable. There&#8217;s only so many cheeseburgers or 99 cent store products that people are going to  buy. And we&#8217;re seeing people saving more in this economy, instead of spending. And those who don&#8217;t save are not going to compensate for the extra cost of doing business in time to keep businesses from firing employees setting off a new spiral.</p>
<p>The people already hiring illegals to avoid paying them minimum wage and benefits will go on doing it and their numbers will grow. Furthermore in my experience, a lot of the people hiring Mexican illegals prefer them to American workers because they like the deference and the obedience. They don&#8217;t like American workers and they don&#8217;t want to hire them. It&#8217;s a problem that we&#8217;re not going to solve except through enforcement.</p>
<p>Finally, an expanded minimum wage may push some people off benefits, but it&#8217;s more likely to lead to workers giving up jobs instead of giving up benefits.</p>
<blockquote><p>This minimum wage argument is gaining ground among conservatives. This week, for example, conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly, called for an increase in the minimum wage. “Legislation to raise the minimum wage would elevate many low-wage earners above the income threshold that qualifies them for benefits and should result in reduced welfare spending,” said Schalfly, who earned the undying hatred of progressives in 1977 by blocking the Equal Rights Amendment.</p>
<p>“That’s a tradeoff Republicans could support,” she added.</p></blockquote>
<p>It should, mechanistically speaking, but given a choice, especially in California, a lot of those workers will give up jobs instead of giving up welfare.</p>
<p>The phenomenon has been seen before.</p>
<blockquote><p>Some of the companies who employ illegals “are competing on price with Bangladesh and India, and the only reason those companies are viable is that they are receiving massive subsidies from the U.S. taxpayer,” Unz said.</p>
<p>“Not only are they driving down the wage of native-born Americans, they’re also drawing much more money from the government than they’re providing in taxes,” he said.</p>
<p>But if the minimum wage is $12, executives won’t be able to build their business on cheap labor, and they’ll be forced to focus on higher-quality, high-tech, higher-productivity jobs don’t drain money from other Americans’ pockets, Unz said.</p></blockquote>
<p>Except a $12 minimum wage won&#8217;t do any of that. There&#8217;s a reason why American Apparel is pushing Legalize LA. A lot of the garment industry workers are already illegal. The same goes for meatpacking and agriculture.</p>
<p>A minimum wage won&#8217;t affect them unless the employers choose to pay it. Cheap labor will still go on being illegal labor.</p>
<p>And service industries, like fast food joints, which can&#8217;t be outsourced, will also feel the burn.</p>
<p>Finally Unz&#8217;s idea about high jobs is nonsense. A country the size of the United States can&#8217;t live off high tech jobs. It doesn&#8217;t work. And plenty of high tech companies find ways to drain money from taxpayers.</p>
<p>Low end jobs aren&#8217;t going anywhere. Only enforcement can prevent the flow of illegal aliens. And deregulation can make it cheaper for lower end businesses to do business.</p>

<p>Fortunately for California, the unjustified fear of illegal aliens that they will be deported if they go on ObamaCare is the only thing keeping its Medicaid budget from going up in a puff of smoke.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.nationaljournal.com/politics/deportation-anxiety-is-making-latinos-obamacare-shy-20131227">Unfortunately Covered California is on a mission to do jus</a>t that and so it&#8217;s asking Obama to make a public statement that illegal aliens are free to go on ObamaCare.</p>
<blockquote><p>Enrollment numbers aren&#8217;t in yet, but the Obama administration already knows it has fewer Latinos signed up than it would like.</p></blockquote>
<p>26.7% of <a href="http://kaiserfamilyfoundation.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/8189.pdf">California Latinos are already</a> on Medicaid. Why bother with ObamaCare&#8217;s clunky website when you&#8217;re already on Medicaid?</p>
<blockquote><p>One of the reasons they&#8217;re not enrolling? People in mixed-immigration status families worry personal information submitted under the Affordable Care Act could be used to deport someone in their family.</p></blockquote>
<p>Obama&#8217;s hyper-tough immigration enforcement has already jumped into action to assure illegal aliens that they can get all the ObamaCare they want without being deported.</p>
<blockquote><p>U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has issued a letter assuring people that information submitted as part of applying for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act will not be used for immigration enforcement.</p></blockquote>
<p>But it&#8217;s just not good enough&#8230;</p>
<blockquote><p>But Daniel Zingale, senior vice president with the California Endowment, says this assurance isn&#8217;t enough. &#8220;I think something from the president himself would be helpful,&#8221; he told Victoria Colliver of the San Francisco Chronicle.</p>
<p>Martinez added it would be especially useful to have something in Spanish.</p></blockquote>
<p>Bloomberg does Spanish statements. Obama can rewrite his teleprompter for some Spanish and make an announcement to all of Mexico.</p>
<blockquote><p>The White House certainly has motivation to publicize and emphasize these assurances to the Latino population, whose enrollment is considered key to the success of the Affordable Care Act&#8217;s rollout. Younger and healthier than the average uninsured American, Latinos would help create a balanced and affordable health insurance pool.</p></blockquote>
<p>50% Medicaid here we come.</p>

<p>“Our view of the law is that it — if somebody is here without sufficient documentation, that is not reason for deportation.”</p>
<p>This wasn’t just a verbal flub; her spokesman reiterated the point, saying her comment was merely “a restatement of her long-held belief that being an undocumented immigrant is not a basis for deportation.”</p></blockquote>
<p>No matter how big of an idiot Nancy Pelosi may be, this is the official view of the House Minority Leader and it isn&#8217;t happening in a vacuum.</p>
<p>This represents the current position behind Obama&#8217;s unilateral legislative moves which decriminalize being an illegal alien. And that&#8217;s the Europeanization of American immigration policy to favor the &#8220;right&#8221; of migrants over the right of natives.</p>
<p>Pelosi didn&#8217;t just randomly say this. Note the lawyer-like phrasing, &#8220;sufficient documentation&#8221; minimizing the lack of legal status to incomplete documentation. This concludes the process that began with outlawing the terms illegal alien and then illegal immigrant until we&#8217;re finally left with undocumented immigrant. And now we&#8217;ve got partially undocumented immigrant.</p>
<p>This isn&#8217;t just about votes. It&#8217;s not even just about borders. Borders are the physical embodiment of nationhood. If a nation doesn&#8217;t have borders, then it doesn&#8217;t control territory and then it doesn&#8217;t really exist.</p>
<p>And that&#8217;s the endgame for the transnational left. Illegal migration is a way of achieving the legal pluralities necessary for dismantling nations.</p>

<p>If you <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/theoval/2013/12/05/obama-onyango-obama-deportation-jay-carney/3881283/">believe Jay Carney, the original denial was issued</a> based on documentary evidence. Also if you believe Jay Carney, the moon is made of pure hopium and so is Barack Obama.</p>
<blockquote><p>Two years after saying President Obama had not met an uncle who faced deportation, the White House said Thursday that Obama lived briefly with him back during the 1980s.</p>
<p>White House spokesman Jay Carney said that Obama met Onyango Obama when he arrived in Cambridge, Mass., in the late 1980s to attend Harvard Law School; Obama stayed briefly with his uncle until his new apartment was ready.</p>
<p>Carney said the White House staff based its 2011 claim that the two had never met on documentary evidence, and had not asked Obama himself.</p>
<p>&#8220;Nobody spoke to the president,&#8221; Carney said, until he did so this week.</p></blockquote>
<p>Once again. Obama knew nothing. Just like he didn&#8217;t know anything about everything else.</p>
<p>Would a flat denial have been issued based on anything than the word of Obama or someone close to him? I doubt it.</p>
<blockquote><p>“Back when this arose, folks looked at the record, including the President’s book, and there was no evidence that they had met, and that was what was conveyed. Nobody spoke to the president,” Carney said.</p></blockquote>
<p>I doubt they issued a denial simply because of a lack of evidence of their meeting being in the book. Even Team Obama isn&#8217;t that casually sloppy.</p>
<blockquote><p>On Thursday, a White House official said the press office had not fully researched the relationship between the president and his uncle before telling the Globe that they had no record of the two meeting. This time, the press office asked the president directly, which they had not done in 2011.</p>
<p>“The president first met Omar Obama when he moved to Cambridge for law school,” said White House spokesman Eric Schultz. “The president did stay with him for a brief period of time until his apartment was ready. After that, they saw each other once every few months, but after law school they fell out of touch. The president has not seen him in 20 years, has not spoken with him in 10.”</p>
<p>Onyango Obama’s immigration case raised numerous concerns about a potential conflict of interest after his arrest in August 2011 for drunken driving in Framingham. The arrest revealed his outstanding deportation orders and his relationship to the president.</p>
<p>Shortly after his arrest, he told an officer, “I think I will call the White House.”</p>
<p>The White House said Obama’s immigration case was handled “without any interference from the president or the White House.”</p></blockquote>
<p>I&#8217;m sure we can believe them this time. Until documentary evidence proving otherwise comes to light.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s already been established that Omar Obama is more likely to tell the truth than Barack Obama about their relationship. So I&#8217;m going to go with the call to the White House.</p>

<p>The 7-year-old, who loves playing games on his iPad, is reportedly the youngest person to have his type of cancer. Hunter has Plexiform Hishocyne Neoplasm. The Alford&#8217;s are in a battle with children&#8217;s medicaid &#8212; or CHIP &#8212; Hunter&#8217;s insurance. Krista says, despite receiving a new, renewed insurance card, the agency told her they dropped his insurance. &#8220;I called them and they said we were dropped October 31st,&#8221; Krista said. Krista says an insurance agent told her that Hunter&#8217;s information got lost when they made changes under the new Affordable Care Act. Now, Krista is on a mission to re-gain that insurance, but they&#8217;re running out of time before his next chemo treatment, and the agent says they can&#8217;t expedite.</p>
<p>&#8220;The lady&#8217;s like, the only way we can expedite is if your son was pregnant and in labor, or if he was an illegal,&#8221; Krista said.</p></blockquote>
<p>It&#8217;s all about the DREAMERs for Obama Inc&#8230; Not the American kids getting chemo.</p>
