How Obama's amnesty will give non-citizen law-breakers access to a “wide array” of programs -- and an advantage in the job market.

Apparently President Obama’s unilateral decision to grant de facto amnesty to five million illegal aliens was insufficiently outrageous. On Tuesday, a White House official told the Washington Post that many illegals now protected from deportation will be eligible to receive a “wide array” of government benefits, including Social Security and Medicare.

The admission verifies that, once again, Americans are forced to endure another lie perpetrated by the president. When he announced his executive action last Thursday, Obama was adamant. “It does not grant citizenship, or the right to stay here permanently, or offer the same benefits that citizens receive—only Congress can do that. All we’re saying is we’re not going to deport you,” he insisted.

Not exactly. The status conferred by the president activates the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, which states that the government “will pay monthly title II and title XVIII benefits to a claimant/beneficiary who is present in the U.S. and who is a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawfully present alien as determined by the Attorney General” (italics mine). It further states that payment provisions “apply to retirement, survivors or disability benefits. This rule also applies to payments made for Medicare services rendered.”

Illegals would be required to pay a Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax, which includes separate payments made to Medicare and Social Security. Once they do that, benefits await. “If they pay in, they can draw,” White House spokesman Shawn Turner told the Post by e-mail.

Turner further noted that such eligibility does not extend to benefits such as student financial aid, food stamps, housing subsidies or ObamaCare. Yet as critics of the president’s plan rightly explain, this administration’s “flexible” approach to the rule of law and the Constitution leaves the door wide open for additional “adjustments” to the program.

“Deferred action and parole-in-place don’t fit neatly into statutory definitions that prohibit access to benefits, mostly because deferred action and parole-in-place have no statutory basis themselves,” Federation of American Immigration Reform (FAIR) communications director Bob Dane told Breitbart News. “Congress has never imagined a rogue president pulling rabbits out of a hat to justify a broad, transformational makeover of the country by way of amnesty. There will always be thousands of loopholes in the law and backdoor methods to achieve a desired agenda, but ultimately the intent of Congress is preeminent. It may be that the courts will have to review that.”

If a recent ruling by a three-judge panel at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is any indication, there may be little relief in sight. On Monday, they rejected Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer’s request to rehear a case related to her 2012 executive order denying about 20,000 illegals access to drivers’ licenses. The Court determined that the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), allowing illegals brought here as children before June 15, 2007, and born after 1981 to be protected from deportation, included the right to obtain those licenses.

In other words, we already have exactly the kind of court-sanctioned “extrapolation” of a constitutionally-dubious executive order that completely belies Turner’s assertion. Thus it is more than likely a president interested in a “fundamental transformation” of the nation—one that includes the transparent attempt to make the Democrat Party an unassailable power—would be more than OK with pulling a few more “rabbits out of a hat” to realize that agenda.

According to the Heritage Foundation’s Robert Rector, the current level of benefit access imposes a staggering cost on the nation. “The net cost–which is total benefits minus total benefits paid in–of the amnesty recipients I estimate will be around $2 trillion over the course of their lifetime,” Rector told Breitbart News Monday. “What [Obama] is doing is he is putting these 4 million people– who on average have a 10th grade education–into the Social Security and Medicare programs. Given their expected earnings, from someone that has a 10th grade education, they will draw about three dollars worth of benefits out of those programs over their lifetimes for every dollar they put into them. But the overall cost in outlays will be around a trillion dollars for those programs alone,” he added.

Rector’s calculations were based on a figure of 4 million illegals living an average of 50 years each. The additional trillion dollars of his estimate is based on an assumption that is the mother’s milk of the American left: incrementalism. Rector assumes that additional legislation—or another executive order—will eventually grant amnestied illegals unrestricted access to America’s welfare state. He further envisions that once the citizen children of the amnestied illegals turn 21, they could petition the government for green cards to be granted to their parents, without those parents having to leave the country to get them. “After 5 years with a green card status they are eligible for all the welfare programs,” he explained.

Ironically—or perhaps more accurately, inevitably—the push to expand amnestied illegals access to benefits will be driven by ObamaCare. As the Washington Times explains, the current executive order gives up to 5 million illegal immigrants three years of legal presence in the country that includes the ability to obtain work permits—but not ObamaCare. As a result businesses that hire amnestied illegals will not have to pay the $3000 ObamaCare penalty for denying them healthcare coverage. Since that penalty would apply to native-born workers, ObamaCare has established a perverse incentive to favor illegal employees over American employees

Rep. Lamar Smith lamented that reality. “If it is true that the president’s actions give employers a $3,000 incentive to hire those who came here illegally, he has added insult to injury,” he contended. “The president’s actions would have just moved those who came here illegally to the front of the line, ahead of unemployed and underemployed Americans.”

Or as mentioned earlier, it would provide the administration with a springboard to expand ObamaCare coverage to include amnestied illegals. It doesn’t take much of an imagination to envision the administration pursuing mainstream media-assisted sales pitch that such a scenario is a “win-win” for illegals who get healthcare coverage, and American workers who no longer have to worry about that perverse incentive.

Republicans were ostensibly surprised that amnestied illegals would be eligible for Social Security and Medicare. “First with Obamacare we were told we should pass it and then read it to find out what was in it,” noted Republican National Committee (RNC) spokeswoman Kirsten Kukowski. “Now Obama overreached and acted unilaterally on immigration, which should have been vetted and authorized by Congress, and we’re finding out there’s more to the story than Obama and the Democrats originally told Americans.”

All well and good, but one suspects Americans have little sympathy for a reactive GOP, one “finding out” that the same president and party who lie on a regular basis would once again engage in subterfuge to further their agenda. Credit the normally clueless Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for having a clue this time around. McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said the best way to get rid of the loophole is to get rid of the employer mandate itself, adding that next year’s GOP majority should hold a vote on such a proposal.

That would theoretically put the president between a rock and a hard place—unless he unilaterally decided to grant temporary access to ObamaCare to amnestied illegals. There is little doubt a president who makes it up as he goes along would dismiss such an idea out of hand. Another solution would be to once again postpone the business mandate. Again, in the age of the Imperial President, all things are possible.

In the meantime, Obama reminded the nation why he remains one of the most divisive individuals to ever occupy the Oval Office. “There have been periods where the folks who were already here suddenly say, ‘Well, I don’t want those folks,’ even though the only people who have the right to say that are some Native Americans,” he told a Chicago audience Monday, completely dismissing the concerns of millions of Americans, including 62 percent of likely voters who opposed his unilateral efforts. He further insisted migrants “will boost wages for American-born workers.”

There are conflicting reports with regard to that statement, depending on whose ideology is being served. Yet the most basic rule of supply and demand cannot be ignored: when you have more of something, as in a larger pool of foreign and native-born workers competing for jobs, each unit of that something, in this case wage levels, are worth less. Yet as far as this president and his party are concerned, the well-being of Americans and illegals are now inseparable agendas. One is left to wonder how long American citizens will put up with that.

De Blasio's New York takes a dangerous turn.

Since the deadly terror attacks of 1993 at the CIA and the World Trade Center, there have been a series of terror attacks attempted inside the United States by radical Islamists.

On September 11, 2001 our nation suffered the worst terror attacks ever carried out within the borders of our country.

Every one of these attacks had something in common: The perpetrators were all aliens who had managed to gain entry into the United States and managed to hide in plain sight, or in the jargon of the 9/11 Commission, they embedded themselves in our country as they went about their deadly preparations.

Our borders and our immigration laws are our first line of defense and last line of defense against international terrorists who seek to attack America and Americans. Yet this essential fact is blithely ignored by the president, members of his administration, members of Congress who seek to implement a variant of “comprehensive immigration reform” and local and state politicians who proudly proclaim that they have created “sanctuaries” for aliens who have run our borders or violated the terms of their admission into the United States and have violated those critical immigration laws.

On Friday, September 19th, I was a guest on “America’s Forum” on Newsmax TV hosted by former Congressional Representative JD Hayworth. NewsMax posted a video of my segment with a synopsis of our discussion. The title of this article was: “Michael Cutler: Sanctuary Cities Are Safe Havens for Terrorists.”

The starting point for my interview was an important news report that contained a video clip of an interview that Rep. Jason Chaffetz participated in with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly. The title of the report was: “BREAKING: Four Terrorists Captured on US Border on September 10 – Day Before 9-11.”

The video clip of the Chaffetz interview on Kelly’s program also contained a brief video of an exchange between Congressman Chaffetz and Jeh Johnson, the Secretary of Homeland Security at a hearing conducted earlier that day. The exchange was infuriating. At first Johnson stated that he was not aware of terrorists running our borders. Rep. Chaffetz then confronted Secretary Johnson, saying that there was information that four terrorists had been apprehended attempting to run our borders at two locations along the U.S./Mexican border. Johnson became extremely uncomfortable and started rubbing his face and all but twitching in his seat. He then claimed that he had heard about it but that they were trying to confirm the information. Next Chaffetz asked Johnson about what level of “operational control” DHS has over the U.S./Mexican border. Johnson said he did not know, whereupon Chaffetz stated that he had information that at present there is 6% operation control.

Secretary Johnson simply stared blankly at Representative Chaffetz.

If DHS has just 6% of “operational control” then we must presume that conversely we have a 94% free-for-all along that critical border. Indeed, the fact that our nation is currently suffering from a flood of heroin that is so severe that police departments around the United States are issuing the antidote to heroin overdoses to their officers and other first responders, would certainly coincide with such a lack of border security. This is why I have come to refer to the DHS as the Department of Homeland Surrender.

During my discussion with JD on his program, I also referenced an exchange between Congressman Lou Barletta and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson about whether or not criminals who are known to be criminals in the United States would come forward to participate in an amnesty program. Johnson conceded that they would not. This was covered in a Breitbart News report that was published on September 17, 2014: “DHS Chief Concedes Background Checks for Amnesty Would Not Catch Criminals”

During my interview with JD on his program I also raised the issue of “sanctuary cities” and the impact such policies have on national security. I referenced the fact that New York City’s mayor Bill de Blasio had decided, with utter impunity, to provide illegal aliens with identity documents that, as an added “bonus,” would enable illegal aliens to whom those cards are issued to gain entrance into museums and other cultural landmarks in New York City.

While some news programs debated this outrageous program, the focus, for the most part, was the economic cost of providing illegal aliens with the municipal IDs that can be used as a free pass to so many major attractions that would cost thousands of dollars per alien. No one mentioned the cost to national security and public safety under de Blasio’s ill-conceived program by providing illegal aliens with identity documents that could easily enable criminals and terrorists to acquire official identity documents in false names. This violates the findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission and also violates the REAL ID Act that was enacted as a result of the 9/11 Commission report.

The article that chronicled my interview on NewsMax-TV included this excerpt:

“When we hear sanctuary city, we should think about the word haven, as when the president the night before the 13th anniversary of 9/11 said, ‘we need to deprive the terrorists’ safe haven,’” Cutler explained.

“Sanctuary cities is doing precisely that — providing safe haven, right here in cities across the United States, aided and abetted by this administration that refuses to enforce the laws, and has provided hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens with identity documents,” he said.

“What could possibly go wrong?” Cutler asked.

What, indeed, could possibly go wrong?

On September 17, 2014, Homeland Security News Wire published a report with the title: “NYC mayor de Blasio facing criticism for curbing counterterrorism programs.”

This important news report quoted none other than John Lehman, former Secretary of the Navy and a former member of the 9/11 Commission. Here is a significant excerpt from this report:

New York City mayor Bill de Blasio is facing backlash over his decision to curb several counterterrorism programs introduced by former mayor Michael Bloomberg. “He has reassigned people and vehicles and special equipment to non-counterterrorist activities,” said John Lehman, a former member of the 9/11 Commission, who recommended that New York City adopt stronger surveillance initiatives after the 9/11 attacks.

The New York Police Department’s stop-and-frisk program, which faced criticism for disproportionately targeting minority youths, has been restricted under de Blasio. Lehman believes the program was instrumental in discouraging would-be terrorists from carrying a bomb or wearing a suicide vest in high-risk areas of New York City. Critics say the policy change may discourage police officers from stopping a person who might appear suspicious. “If you see someone with a package or a bulky vest, you are taking a great risk if you stop and frisk them. If the person is a person of color and not carrying a bomb or evidence of potential terrorist risks, as a cop you’re in big trouble,” Lehman said.

The Hill reports that de Blasio has also been criticized for approving a program to issue municipal IDs of standards lower than those mandated by the federal government’s Real ID program. The municipal IDs are intended to serve undocumented immigrants and residents who may not be eligible for regular state IDs under the Real ID program. “They’re completely opposed to Real ID and the other issues that were adopted by Congress as a result of our recommendations,” Lehman said.

The Real ID Act of 2005 requires verified proof of identification, like birth certificates or social security numbers, before state identification cards are issued to residents. “You need a reliable way of identifying people. You don’t simply issue ID cards willy nilly to anybody who wants them and shows up and has his picture taken and tells you what his name is,” Lehman said.

I previously wrote about de Blasio’s preposterous and dangerous program in an article I wrote for CAPS (Californians for Population Stabilization) that was posted on February 25, 2014: “NYC Mayor Determined to Give Illegal Aliens ID Cards.”

These issues all raise the question: Why on earth would the government of the United States embark on a program of providing documents to aliens who evade our borders and the lawful inspections process that are supposed to prevent the entry of aliens whose presence would be problematic for the United States — including international terrorists and transnational criminals?

It is unfathomable that the findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission are never raised by the members of Congress or other politicians who support “comprehensive Immigration reform.” This includes Texas Governor Perry who has been certainly sounding the alarm that terrorists are entering the United States by running our borders but then has repeatedly stated that the border must be secured before we can deal with the millions of illegal aliens who are present in the United States.

The issue is that the terrorists who have managed to evade the Border Patrol are already among those unknown millions of illegal aliens present in the United States. There is no possible way for USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) the division of the DHS that would be responsible for processing those millions of illegal aliens, to actually conduct in-person interviews with these foreign nationals who snuck into the United States. There are no resources to conduct any sort of field investigations of these aliens either. The applications would simply be processed by mail without the ability to corroborate any of the information contained in those applications.

On September 10, 2014 the New York Times published President Obama’s “Remarks on the Fight Against ISIS,” which he delivered that same evening, just hours before the 13th anniversary of the worst terror attacks ever carried out on American soil. It is important to consider this excerpt from that speech:

So tonight, with a new Iraqi government in place, and following consultations with allies abroad and Congress at home, I can announce that America will lead a broad coalition to roll back this terrorist threat. Our objective is clear: We will degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL through a comprehensive and sustained counterterrorism strategy.

First, we will conduct a systematic campaign of airstrikes against these terrorists. Working with the Iraqi government, we will expand our efforts beyond protecting our own people and humanitarian missions so that we’re hitting ISIL targets as Iraqi forces go on offense. Moreover, I have made it clear that we will hunt down terrorists who threaten our country, wherever they are. That means I will not hesitate to take action against ISIL in Syria as well as Iraq. This is a core principle of my presidency: If you threaten America, you will find no safe haven.

That last sentence bears repeating:

“This is a core principle of my presidency: If you threaten America, you will find no safe haven.”

It is worth noting that Obama’s predecessor, President George W. Bush, also noted that the terrorists who carried out the attacks of 9/11 would be deprived “safe haven.”

CNN published a copy of the transcript of President George W. Bush’s speech he delivered on September 20, 2001; just nine days after the terror attacks of September 11, 2001.

Here are a few excerpted paragraphs from his speech that are well worth remembering:

On September the 11th, enemies of freedom committed an act of war against our country. Americans have known wars, but for the past 136 years they have been wars on foreign soil, except for one Sunday in 1941. Americans have known the casualties of war, but not at the center of a great city on a peaceful morning.

Americans have known surprise attacks, but never before on thousands of civilians. All of this was brought upon us in a single day, and night fell on a different world, a world where freedom itself is under attack.

Americans have many questions tonight. Americans are asking, “Who attacked our country?”

The evidence we have gathered all points to a collection of loosely affiliated terrorist organizations known as al Qaeda. They are some of the murderers indicted for bombing American embassies in Tanzania and Kenya and responsible for bombing the USS Cole.

Al Qaeda is to terror what the Mafia is to crime. But its goal is not making money, its goal is remaking the world and imposing its radical beliefs on people everywhere.

President Bush went on to say:

And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation in every region now has a decision to make: Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists.

From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime. Our nation has been put on notice, we’re not immune from attack. We will take defensive measures against terrorism to protect Americans. Today, dozens of federal departments and agencies, as well as state and local governments, have responsibilities affecting homeland security.

Let’s go back and consider the sentence that should be the focus of everyone’s attention today:

From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime.

There are a couple of “take-aways” to consider in those paragraphs. First of all President Bush, not unlike President Obama, made it clear that terrorists must be deprived “safe havens.”

Second, President Bush also noted that the U.S. Embassies at Tanzania and Kenya had been attacked by the terrorists who also bombed the USS Cole.

It is worth considering the attack that was carried out last year at the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi, Kenya.

A documentary film was recently released about this horrific, devastating attack that is currently airing regularly on HBO. On September 14, 2014 the New York Times reviewed the film and gave that review the title, “In This Horror Film, Blood Is All Too Real / ‘Terror at the Mall’ on HBO Documents an Attack in Kenya.”

Here is how the extensive review of this documentary begins:

One year ago, gunmen from the Shabab militant group in Somalia laid “siege to the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya. Armed with AK-47s and grenades, they stalked their victims from a gourmet burger restaurant at the entrance to the vegetable aisle of a grocery store at the back.

The British filmmaker Dan Reed assembled thousands of hours of footage gleaned from more than 100 security cameras inside the mall, video from television crews and modest cellphones, as well as still photographs. Then he and his team tracked down more than 200 people and interviewed 82 of them on camera, many survivors or their rescuers.

The result is a harrowing hourlong documentary, “Terror at the Mall,” airing on HBO on Monday night. Tracer bullets slash across blurry closed-circuit footage, blood stains tile floors where children skipped moments before, and family members recount in horrific detail the deaths of loved ones.

This documentary should be required viewing by every member of the Obama administration who has even the most tangential involvement with national security issues. It should be required viewing for every member of the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate and their respective staffers. Finally, every mayor, governor, state and local legislator and every chief of police must also be made to watch this film.

The mayors and governors who have declared their towns, cities and states sanctuary cities should be required to watch this documentary as many times as it takes to get them to reverse their deadly policies.

What transpired in Kenya could easily, God forbid, take place in any of the malls to be found in towns and cities across our nation. Several weeks ago I wrote an article about the foolish idea that all that DHS needs to do to protect our nation from terrorists and transnational criminals is to simply secure the border that is supposed to separate the United States from Mexico. The title of my article was: “Border Security and the Immigration Colander.”

The point I addressed in that article was that it is insane to think that simply focusing on one of many failures of the immigration system — plugging just one of many holes in the system — would make our country safe. A similar article could be written about the myriad vulnerabilities that terrorists could easily exploit to carry out an attack inside the United States.

Certainly it is important to make certain that we keep terrorists off of airliners. However, this is only one of many, many vulnerabilities and most of the other such vulnerabilities are being utterly ignored.

For several years after the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 politicians from both political parties repeated what became the virtual mantra that justified our military actions overseas: “We are fighting them (the terrorists) over there so that we will not have to fight them over here.”

It should be obvious that such statements are baseless and in point of fact, absurd. The terror attacks of 9/11 were carried out over here – at the World Trade Center in New York City, at that field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon.

Subsequent terror attacks were also attempted within America’s borders.

For example, on May 1, 2010 Faisal Shahzad, a naturalized United States citizen who was born in Pakistan attempted to carry out a terror attack by setting off a bomb in an SUV that he left parked in New York City’s Times Square, often referred to as the “Crossroads of the World.”

On April 15, 2013 the Boston Marathon was attacked by the Tsarnaev Brothers who, along with their family members, had been, years earlier, granted political asylum, claiming a “credible fear” that they could not safely return to their native Russia. No sooner were they granted asylum in the United States than they hopped on airliners and returned to Russia. It would certainly appear that they lied on their applications for asylum. Yet their deception went un-noticed and unpunished.

On May 2, 2013, I was interviewed by Megyn Kelly of Fox News about that terror bombing of the Boston Marathon. The video of the interview was posted on the Fox News website under the title, “Immigration Expert: The System Failed in Boston and Keeps on Failing.”

Thanks to failures in the system, it is not known how many ticking time bombs like Shahzad and the Tsarnaev Brothers are in our midst.

On September 20, 2013 CAPS (Californians for Population Stabilization) posted my article about the failures of the vetting process for alien applicants who apply for immigration benefits: “Comprehensive Immigration Reform: Background Checks Require a Reality Check”

On July 30, 2012 CAPS (Californians for Population Stabilization) posted my commentary: “Fraud: The Immigration Vulnerability That Undermines the Immigration System and National Security”

On November 20, 2013 ABC News reported: “Exclusive: US May Have Let ‘Dozens’ of Terrorists Into Country As Refugees”

This is not a new problem, on July 13, 2011 the Washington Times published a truly disturbing article: “Visas reviewed to find those who overstayed / Aim is to find any would-be terrorists”

On July 20, 2013 the Washington Times published another disturbing report: “Homeland Security loses track of 1 million foreigners; report could hurt immigration deal.”

On Friday, May 24, 2013 “The Blaze” and “My San Antonio,” reported on the arrest of Wissam Allouche by the FBI and members of the JTTF (Joint Terrorism Task Force) in San Antonio, Texas, for lying on his application for naturalization to acquire United States citizenship.

The article published by “My San Antonio” was entitled: “Alleged member of Hezbollah arrested here.”

The article in “The Blaze” was entitled: “Infiltration? The Alarming Details Surrounding Alleged Hezbollah Member’s Arrest in Texas”

While Allouche’s application for naturalization was approved and he was arrested and indicted for committing fraud in filing that application years earlier, what no one has pointed out is that in addition to allegedly successfully gaming the naturalization process, he had been a lawful immigrant for years. He had a Green Card for at least three years before he applied for United States citizenship. It is vital to understand that the lack of integrity to the process by which aliens are granted lawful status in the United States — including resident alien status and United States citizenship — poses an immediate and direct threat to national security.

Just a few weeks ago, on September 2, 2014 ABC News reported, “Lost in America: Visa Program Struggles to Track Missing Foreign Students.” The Report read in part:

ABC News found that immigration officials have struggled to keep track of the rapidly increasing numbers of foreign students coming to the U.S. — now in excess of one million each year. The immigration agency’s own figures show that 58,000 students overstayed their visas in the past year. Of those, 6,000 were referred to agents for follow-up because they were determined to be of heightened concern.

“They just disappear,” said Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. “They get the visas and they disappear.”

Coburn said since the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, 26 student visa holders have been arrested in the U.S. on terror-related charges.

Tightening up the student visa program was one of the major recommendations made by the 9/11 Commission, after it was determined that the hijacker who flew Flight 77 into the Pentagon, Hani Hanjour, had entered the U.S. on a student visa but never showed up for school.

This news report was also the focus of my interview by JD Hayworth on the NewsMax-TV program, “America’s Forum” on September 3, 2014.

Back on May 7, 2014 ICE issued a news release about the enrollment of foreign students in the United States: “SEVP report provides snapshot of international students studying in US. International student enrollment up 2 percent at US schools, 75 percent of students from Asia”

Here is the key paragraph from that press release:

As of April 1, almost 1.02 million international students were enrolled in nearly 9,000 U.S. schools using an F (academic) or M (vocational) visa. This marks a two percent increase from January. Seventy-five percent of all international students were from Asia, with 29 percent from China. Saudi Arabia and India had the greatest percentage increase of students studying in the United States at 10 and eight percent, respectively, when compared to January statistics. The top 10 countries of citizenship for international students included: China, India, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Mexico and Brazil.

It was known that visa fraud and immigration benefit fraud were among the vulnerabilities that made the 9/11 attacks possible. In fact, on May 20, 1997, more than four years before the attacks of 9/11, the House Subcommittee on Immigration and Claims conducted a hearing that was predicated on the two attacks of 1993 (at the CIA in January and the first World Trade bombing one month later) on the topic: “Visa Fraud and Immigration Benefits Application Fraud.”

I participated as a witness at that hearing. It was my first appearance before a congressional hearing but would be hardly my last.

On September 11, 2001 as the ashes from the conflagration at what came to be known as “Ground Zero” fluttered down on my neighborhood and, indeed, my home, I was enraged knowing that if the Clinton Administration had acted to close the gaps in the immigration system that were discovered in the wake of the two 1993 attacks, in my judgement, the terror attacks of 9/11 could have been prevented. (I am not being political in that statement; for what it is worth, I am a lifelong registered Democrat. Immigration is not about “Left” or “Right” but about right or wrong.)

Perhaps the highest profile hearing for which I have been called to testify was conducted on March 19, 2002 by the House Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Immigration and Claims, on the topic: “INS’s March 2002 Notification of Approval of Change of Status for Pilot Training for Terrorist Hijackers Mohammed Atta and Marwan al-Shehhi.”

This hearing was covered by C-SPAN and the C-SPAN video every member of Congress should be required to watch it. It is unfathomable how twelve years after that hearing was conducted into one of the most outrageous screw-ups that all of the promises to address the failures of the system continue to plague the very same system as clearly evidenced by the “missing” students noted above.

The 9/11 Commission warned about the way that visa fraud and immigration fraud undermines national security and has become the method of choice for terrorists to enter the United States and embed themselves in the United States.

Here is an important paragraph from the 9/11 Commission Report:

Inspectors at the ports of entry were not asked to focus on terrorists. Inspectors told us they were not even aware that when they checked the names of incoming passengers against the automated watchlist, they were checking in part for terrorists. In general, border inspectors also did not have the information they needed to make fact-based determinations of admissibility. The INS initiated but failed to bring to completion two efforts that would have provided inspectors with information relevant to counterterrorism—a proposed system to track foreign student visa compliance and a program to establish a way of tracking travelers’ entry to and exit from the United States.

The 9/11 Commission Staff Report on Terrorist Travel detailed numerous examples of instances where terrorists not only made use of visa and immigration benefit fraud to enter the United States, but to also embed themselves in the United States. Page 47 of this report noted:

“Once terrorists had entered the United States, their next challenge was to find a way to remain here. Their primary method was immigration fraud. For example, Yousef and Ajaj concocted bogus political asylum stories when they arrived in the United States. Mahmoud Abouhalima, involved in both the World Trade Center and landmarks plots, received temporary residence under the Seasonal Agricultural Workers (SAW) program, after falsely claiming that he picked beans in Florida.”

It is significant to note that the Seasonal Agricultural Program, also known as the Special Agricultural Program (SAW), was a major component of the 1986 Amnesty and that New York’s then Congressman Chuck Schumer, the leading member of the “Gang of Eight,” was one of that program’s major architects even though there were absolutely no farms in his congressional district when he concocted it.

This paragraph is found on page 98 of the report, under the title “Immigration Benefits:”

“Terrorists in the 1990s, as well as the September 11 hijackers, needed to find a way to stay in or embed themselves in the United States if their operational plans were to come to fruition. As already discussed, this could be accomplished legally by marrying an American citizen, achieving temporary worker status, or applying for asylum after entering. In many cases, the act of filing for an immigration benefit sufficed to permit the alien to remain in the country until the petition was adjudicated. Terrorists were free to conduct surveillance, coordinate operations, obtain and receive funding, go to school and learn English, make contacts in the United States, acquire necessary materials, and execute an attack.”

It is absolutely imperative that the mission of denying “safe haven” to terrorists anywhere in the world, as called for by Presidents Bush and Obama, be successfully carried out. However, even before our government casts its gaze overseas to countries around the world, the focus must be on the ways that our own “leaders” on the federal, state and even local level are providing safe haven for terrorists and others who pose a serious threat to national security and public safety right here, inside our own country.

It has been often said that “charity begins at home.” Our national security must also begin at home.

When a doctor makes a mistake that injures, cripples or kills his patient he (she) may well face a lawsuit, loss of his license to practice medicine and may even be prosecuted for committing a crime stemming from his malpractice. Police officers who use excessive force may also face similar sanctions, as may other professionals.

As a result of the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 the only people who lost their jobs were the same people who lost their lives.

The time has long since come for our politicians to be made no less accountable than those in other professions. The impact they have on America and Americans is far greater than that of any doctor or police officer.

Taking matters into their own hands.

Before Friday night’s DACA-gutting immigration bill was passed in the House, rookie Majority Whip, Steve Scalise (R-La.) had been getting pounced on by the liberal media for his “inability” to push wavering House Republicans into getting something out the door before the recess-break. Ever since the Gang of Eight’s amnesty bill was introduced last year, the media has claimed that it’s Republican intransigence that is obstructing immigration and border security “reform.”

Whether true or not, it’s important to point out that this has never been the case for our conservative representatives at the state and local-level. In 2007 alone they introduced over 1,500 immigration bills in state assemblies across the nation with 240 being enacted into law. They’ve been just as busy since, probably because they’ve had to. The problems from decades of open-borders faced by state and local governments are getting ever closer to crisis-proportions. Given that Friday’s much improved bill will surely not survive the Senate’s or Obama’s chopping block, it may be time to reassess what our representatives at the state-level can and have been doing to deliver true patriotic immigration reform.

In a newly published book of academic essays about state-level immigration regulation, Strange Neighbors, immigration law guru Kris Kobach declares that “every state is a border state now.” Indeed, immigration-induced problems are the “new normal” for most state governments which will be compounded by a perennially underperforming national economy and budget-busting pension and welfare obligations. Drawing on Milton Friedman’s statement that “you can’t have free immigration and a welfare state,” Kobach reminds us that “[a] massive influx of individuals who either pay very little in income taxes or evade income taxes entirely, but consume public services at a relatively high rate, is costly for any receiving state.” This is clearly seen in the predominately Democrat-run “sanctuary cities,” which have some of the most unstable governments in the nation.

Despite the flurry of state and local bills over the past few years, states have been restrained from regulating immigration where it really hurts: education costs. It’s now estimated that around 50 percent of the increase in the national school-age population going forward will come from illegal aliens. But in the landmark 1982 decision of Plyer v. Doe, statutes denying free education for illegal alien children were deemed unconstitutional by a bare majority of the Supreme Court. In a display of ignorance startling even for liberals, then-Chief Justice William Brennan wrote for the court that “few if any illegal immigrants come to this country… in order to avail themselves of a free education.” On the contrary, says John Eastman, constitutional lawyer and fellow contributor to Strange Neighbors, a free top-notch education is “one of the three great magnets” for illegal aliens to come across our border – the others being employment and birthright citizenship.

According to Brennan in the Plyer decision, the statute in question (which originated from Texas) was struck down because “the record in no way supports the claim that exclusion of undocumented children is likely to improve the overall quality of education in the State.” Although there may not have been a lot of data available to counsel for Texas then, that was over 30 years ago and we now have a ton of statistics on education costs from illegal immigration. According to a 2010 report from the Federation for American Immigration Reform, the largest cost of illegal immigration to states today is, in fact, education. Just in Arizona that year alone, it cost taxpayers close to $1.5 billion. It now looks likely that what was missing for Brennan can now be met.

In 2011, Alabama attempted to build such a challenge to Plyer. It enacted a law that sought to gather information on education costs of illegal aliens and how it affected state-wide education in general. Although it sought to merely gather data, the statute was immediately challenged by treasonous lawfare groups, like the SPLC and ACLU, and implementation of the law has been delayed. But for states hoping to turn off the education magnet, Alabama’s efforts are instructive.

Since Plyer, Eastman reminds us, the Supreme Court has made some positive shifts towards states’ rights, as seen in such cases as US v. Lopez, US v. Morrison and Chamber of Commerce v. Whiting. It is hoped patriotic state legislators and attorneys general across the nation will follow Alabama and take up similar legislative initiatives. Considering our congress is compromised and our president wants the borders erased, it may be our only hope.

Congress struggles to clip Obama's amnesty wings.

Republican lawmakers in the nation’s capital are racing against the legislative clock to approve measures aimed at cleaning up the border mess that President Obama created and preventing him from issuing unilateral decrees making it much, much worse.

The Obama administration is threatening to plunge the nation into a dire constitutional crisis after Labor Day by using executive orders to grant a huge amnesty to millions of illegal aliens now in the United States. Of course, in the American system of government, Congress, not the president, is supposed to make laws. Congress has repeatedly refused to grant the amnesties that Obama seeks, but the president refuses to take no for an answer, pressing on regardless of the casualties he inflicts on the country.

There is no indication Obama is backing off.

After meeting with Obama at the White House, leftist congressman Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) again predicted the president would go forward with a massive immigration amnesty.

“I believe the president of the United States is going to act broadly and generously,” Gutiérrez said Tuesday on MSNBC when describing the White House visit that took place Friday. “That’s my belief. He didn’t say that to me but that’s what I believe he’s going to do.”

A giddy Gutiérrez said last week that the Obama administration could unilaterally provide legal status to as many as 5 million illegals.

But an amnesty fiat by the president would violate the U.S. Constitution and the separation of powers doctrine and is clearly “an impeachable offense,” according to commentator Charles Krauthammer.

Although Krauthammer doesn’t support efforts to impeach Obama which he refers to as “political suicide,” he said that unilaterally granting work permits and legal status to millions of illegal aliens would be “clearly lawless and it would be biggest domestic overreach of a president in memory.”

Time is running out for Congress to act to protect its constitutionally guaranteed legislative prerogatives from Obama’s tyrannical encroachments. On Friday the House of Representatives is set to adjourn for five weeks for summer vacation.

Newly introduced legislation is pending in both chambers that would prevent Obama from granting amnesty to illegal aliens. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is lead sponsor of the Senate measure. The companion bill in the House was introduced by Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.).

In addition, Cruz was expected to meet last night with House Republicans, including Reps. Steve King (Iowa), Louie Gohmert (Texas), and Matt Salmon (Arizona), in an effort to undermine House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) weak-as-dishwater border crisis bill. Cruz opposes the measure because it doesn’t defund Obama’s odious Deferred Action for Child Arrivals (DACA) program which stays immigration enforcement proceedings against underage illegal aliens. Obama used DACA to give 500,000 minors legal status after Congress refused to do so by failing to pass the so-called “DREAM Act.”

“The only way to stop the border crisis is to stop Obama’s amnesty,” Cruz said Tuesday. “It is disappointing the border security legislation unveiled today does not include language to end Obama’s amnesty. Congress cannot hope to solve this problem without addressing the fundamental cause of it.”

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama), the president’s most vocal critic in Congress on immigration-related issues, also opposes the Boehner bill and has asked the Senate to nix any border legislation that does not stop the president from using federal funds to process work authorizations for illegal aliens.

Granting amnesty with the stroke of a presidential pen would “do that which the law explicitly forbids” and “would be in contravention of [Obama's] duty and his oath to see that the laws of the United States are faithfully enforced,” Sessions said on the Senate floor. He continued:

The president’s actions are astonishing, and are taking our nation into exceedingly dangerous waters … Such calculated action strains the constitutional structure of our republic. Such unlawful and unconstitutional action, if taken, cannot stand. No Congress, Republican or Democrat, can allow such action to occur or to be maintained. The people will not stand for it. They must not stand for it.

Separately, the Senate voted 63 to 33 yesterday on a procedural motion to move forward a $3.5 billion emergency measure that deals with the border situation.

The House is expected to take up Boehner’s bill today.

Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) suggested earlier this week that wildly unpopular left-wing immigration reforms such as amnesty sought by radical groups could be slathered onto Boehner’s border bill.

But the Speaker says that won’t happen.

“Senator Reid, embarrassed that he cannot strong-arm the Senate into passing the blank check President Obama demanded, is making a deceitful and cynical attempt to derail the House’s common-sense solution,” Boehner said.

“So let me be as clear as I can be with Senator Reid: the House of Representatives will not take up the Senate immigration reform bill or accept it back from the Senate in any fashion,” the Speaker said. “Nor will we accept any attempt to add any other comprehensive immigration reform bill or anything like it, including the DREAM Act, to the House’s targeted legislation, which is meant to fix the actual problems causing the border crisis.”

The Senate measure Boehner was referring to is an abominably bad reform bill approved by the Democratic-controlled Senate last year that is languishing in the Republican-controlled House. Open borders advocates have been hoping that lawmakers move on the legislation in the lame duck session of Congress that is expected to follow the November election.

The Senate-approved immigration amnesty legislation provides for a phony “border surge” that would beef up enforcement efforts — but which will never actually be carried out. The bill also perversely rewards employers for hiring illegal aliens over those legally allowed to work. Another provision would stay deportation efforts against criminal illegal aliens for two-and-a-half years to allow them to seek legal status. The legislation is loaded with stimulus programs and political pork that has nothing to do with immigration. One provision would set aside $1.5 billion to provide low-income young people with taxpayer-funded vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, or scooters.

Critics say the Senate measure would devastate America’s labor marketplace and assure more amnesties in the future. In the awful Obama economy at least 11 million illegal immigrants would immediately be given Social Security cards that would allow them to compete for government and blue collar jobs.

Back in the House, immigration reform has to be kept separate as an issue from possible remedies for the ongoing border crisis, Boehner said. “Such measures have no place in the effort to solve this crisis, and any attempt to exploit this crisis by adding such measures will run into a brick wall in the people’s House.”

Distressingly, President Obama has been dumping busloads of illegals, many of whom are reportedly sick, on localities throughout the nation.

Grassroots activists in Murrieta, California, garnered headlines when they used civil disobedience tactics by blocking federal authorities from bussing in hundreds of illegal immigrants who snuck into south Texas. Even the residents of Democratic Party strongholds like Lynn, Massachusetts, are protesting the seemingly unending influx of undocumented aliens that they are hard-pressed to feed, house, and clothe. So many local officials and governors have objected to the transfer of child illegals into their jurisdictions that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has been keeping most of the locations secret.

Some Obama critics point out that the forced quartering of strangers in American colonists’ homes was one of the causes of the Revolutionary War and the inspiration for the Third Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Rep. James Sensenbrenner Jr. (R-Wisc.) introduced a bill yesterday that would give governors the right to refuse to accept unaccompanied underage illegals in their states. “While I recognize the severity and sensitivity of this crisis, we must secure the border and make a clear statement to those seeking citizenship in the United States: Illegal activity will not be rewarded,” Sensenbrenner said.

And the bad news from the U.S.-Mexico border keeps coming.

An outbreak of chicken pox has placed a new federal housing facility for recently arrived illegals under quarantine. No internees are being allowed to enter or leave the compound located at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, New Mexico.

Fox News reports that violent gang activity along the Texas border with Mexico is rising:

A game warden hit in the head with a rock while trying to seize a raft. Police officers wounded in an hours-long standoff with a gang member wanted for murder. Criminals spewing obscenities and death threats at local cops before asking for – and receiving – medical treatment. And that was just last week.

“In recent weeks the traffic appears to have slowed slightly, yet assaults on law enforcement have increased,” said Chris Cabrera, vice president of the National Border Patrol Union, Rio Grande Valley Sector. “This is a disturbing trend that needs to be addressed.”

“It is paramount that we get this problem under control. It is evident that we need more agents in the field to address the various threats posed to law enforcement as well as to our nation.”

Don’t hold your breath, Officer Cabrera.

One of the biggest illegal immigration lies debunked.

It’s been reported everywhere — The New York Times, The Washington Post, Fox News — that the William Wilberforce Sex Trafficking Act requires that any non-Mexican children who show up on our border be admitted and given a hearing. (New York Times, July 7, 2014: “Immigrant Surge Rooted in Law to Curb Child Trafficking.”)

The problem, we’ve been told, is that a loophole in the sex trafficking law mandates these hearings — or “removal proceedings.”

But there is no such loophole.

The fact that people on both sides of the aisle are telling the same lie about this law is worrisome. Are Republicans being tricked into thinking we need an emergency bill, so that, two weeks later, we’ll see them emerging from a conference, saying:

We fixed the loophole! We didn’t get everything we wanted, but you can hear about that later.

No, tell me now.

Well, remember amnesty? It’s kind of in this bill. But the headline is: We closed the loophole! So no more worries about that loophole. But yeah, amnesty passed.

Why else would everyone be carrying on about a non-existent loophole? I know they’re mistaken because I read the law.

The Wilberforce law states, in relevant part:

“Any unaccompanied alien child sought to be removed by the Department of Homeland Security, except for an unaccompanied alien child from a contiguous country (i.e. Mexico — or Canada, so as not to sound discriminatory) … shall be — placed in removal proceedings … eligible for relief … at no cost to the child and provided access to counsel.”

Obviously, that’s the whole ball of wax. Once a kid is in, given La Raza attorneys and a hearing date, he’s never going home. No immigration judge is going to listen to a lawyer-manufactured sob story and say, “No, I’m sorry, that didn’t touch my heart. You have to go back to Huehuetenango.”

But the law’s definition of “unaccompanied alien child” limits the hearings to kids who have no relatives in the United States. If your relatives live here, the law assumes you’re not being sex-trafficked — you’re trying to join them.

Here’s the definition — note subsection (C):

“(g) Definitions

“(2) the term ‘unaccompanied alien child’ means a child who –

(A) has no lawful immigration status in the United States;

(B) has not attained 18 years of age; and

(C) with respect to whom –

(i) there is no parent or legal guardian in the United States; or (ii) no parent or legal guardian in the United States is available to provide care and physical custody.”

The law is not — as George Will suggested on “Fox News Sunday” — a general humanitarian mandate allowing all 2 billion poor children of the world to show up at our border and be told, “Welcome to America!” It’s a law to combat sex trafficking.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Vice President Joe Biden wrote the law — and Feinstein isn’t stupid. She’s well aware of illegal immigration. That’s why the law specifically excludes two huge categories of illegal aliens from getting hearings: (1) Mexicans; and (2) children who have relatives in the U.S.

Those cases look more like illegal immigration than sex trafficking. (Didn’t anyone wonder why Mexican kids are excluded?)

Mexicans make up the lion’s share of illegal immigrants in the U.S., and children with relatives already living in the U.S. are probably just trying to rejoin family — not trying to escape a fiendish kidnapper about to sell them into sex slavery.

According to last Friday’s New York Times, almost 90 percent of the 53,000 illegal alien kids given refugee status since October have already been transferred to parents or relatives living in the U.S. By the law’s clear terms, those 47,000 kids should have been summarily turned away at the border — just as Mexican children are.

(Democrats wailing about a “humanitarian” crisis — after calculating the precise number of voters they need — evidently don’t care about the Mexican kids.)

No law needs to be fixed. The only thing that needs to be fixed is the president.

Obama has gone mad and is defying the law in order to “fundamentally transform America” — as he pledged to do during the 2008 campaign — into Latin America. (Luckily for George Will, he won’t be around by the time Latin America gets to his neighborhood.)

Any Republicans pushing for an immigration bill to seal an imaginary loophole aren’t fighting Obama; they’re helping him.

Constitutionally, the remedy for a president defying the law so he can assist an alien invasion is impeachment. But the media won’t let us impeach Obama — and Republicans don’t have the votes, anyway. The only way for Americans to fight back is to put large Republican majorities in the House and Senate this November.

Obama's real objective in threatening amnesty.

This week, as I have been predicting for months, President Barack Obama announced that he would be considering unprecedented executive action to provide legal status for millions of illegal immigrants. His goal is not to solve the immigration crisis — you don’t grant legal status to 5 million illegal immigrants, then leave the back door wide open if you’re interested in solving the problem. His goal is not to help illegal immigrants — he instead leaves them in limbo by granting them temporary work permits, rather than blanket amnesty.

His goal is trolling.

Trolling is a practice whereby a person takes a deliberately indefensible position simply to draw passionate excess from an opponent. That is Obama’s goal here: He hopes for extreme language, impassioned opposition and eventually, impeachment.

This administration is hungry for impeachment. While no Republican leader in Congress has given even a smidgen of credibility to impeachment talk, the Obama administration has been fundraising off impeachment rumors. Last Friday, the White House said that it was not dismissing the possibility of a House impeachment; senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer said that Obama “would not discount the possibility.” Two weeks ago, Obama brought up the possibility of impeachment in order to mock it to his supporters. As Politico noted, “Who’s talking about impeachment? Barack Obama.”

Joe Trippi, a Democratic consultant, explained why Democrats love impeachment talk: “The more they talk about it, the more it has a red hot effect on their base. So if you can get the temperature just right, you’re turning out all your base voters, and Democrats don’t take it seriously, and it’s a good year for you. If that stove gets just a little too hot, and you lose control of it, you’re going to have every Democrat on the planet turning out to stop it.”

Obama trolls because he recognizes that trends cut against Democrats in 2014. If he believed that Democrats were well-positioned to win back the House of Representatives, he would threaten executive action and then call on Americans to give his party a majority.

Instead, he seeks to gin up outrage on the right and enthusiasm on the left. And he’ll use the lives of millions of Americans and non-Americans to do it. It’s a desperation play, but it’s his only play.

That’s because Obama has no capacity for compromise. His strategy has always been simple: govern when you have a majority; campaign when you don’t. And so, for the last several years, he’s spent significantly more time doing fundraisers than being president — and even when he’s being president, he’s simply setting up the next stop in his endless campaign.

So what should conservatives do? First off, they should stop talking impeachment. It’s a waste of time and effort. It serves no purpose. It is not principled to talk impeachment; it is idiotic. There are zero Democrats in the Senate who would vote to convict Obama and few Republicans.

Second, conservatives should point out that Obama does not have the country’s best interests in mind. He does not care about the fate of illegal immigrants — if he did, he’d stop incentivizing children to travel thousands of miles in the hands of coyotes, then offering uncertainty as to their status, incentivizing thousands more to do the same. He obviously does not care about the political climate of the country — if he did, he’d stop manipulating and start governing.

Finally, conservatives should ignore Obama. His rhetoric is unimportant. It is a distraction. They should focus instead on his actions, which are deliberately designed to undermine the country for his own political gain.

The end of summer may mean the end of America's borders.

Amnesty is coming — big time.

Americans need to brace themselves for a huge new wave of Obama-led lawlessness because the president is planning what a top schemer in the White House calls a “very significant” executive action on immigration after the summer.

Undoubtedly this means some kind of amnesty for illegal aliens is in the works over and above what Obama has already done, the Constitution and public fury notwithstanding.

Obama’s “planned executive orders” would give legal status “to another 5–6 million illegal immigrants,” said Sen. Jeff Sessions, (R-Alabama). “This would effectively end immigration enforcement in America.”

Leftist congressman Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) boasted Friday that the Obama administration could unilaterally provide legal status to as many as 5 million illegals. The lawmaker said he planned to meet with White House officials “to negotiate additional terms and avenues the president can use” through executive action.

“I think we can get 3 or 4, maybe even 5 million people,” Gutiérrez said.

The news comes as Americans grow increasingly angry over the border crisis that has been staged and carefully choreographed by the far-left levelers of the Obama administration. Flames of discontent are flickering even in places like Lynn, Massachusetts, long a Democratic Party bastion, as local residents grow weary of the seemingly unending influx of illegal aliens that they are hard-pressed to feed, house, and clothe. As many as an estimated 10,000 people protested illegal immigration outside the Massachusetts legislature in Boston over the weekend.

Because a U.S. Senate-approved immigration package has very little chance of passing the House, Obama has decided yet again to usurp the power of the Congress and make law, a clear violation of the Constitution and an impeachable offense.

But instead of getting serious about border security, the Obama administration views the ongoing invasion by gang members, criminals, and other illegal immigrants from Central America as an opportunity to dynamite what remains of the nation’s southern border. He doesn’t care that plenty of illegal aliens, many of them children, are dying in the act of crossing the border. They are mere collateral damage in the pursuit of so-called justice.

Borrowing a catch-phrase popular among Alinskyite community organizers, Obama advisor Dan Pfeiffer said Friday that the crisis confers “broad permission” to act. The president intends to do an end-run around the “broken Congress” and move forward after consulting with Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Security Jeh Johnson, said Pfeiffer whose official title is Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor.

Obama wants to make sure that whatever he does is on “solid legal footing” and has maximum impact, Pfeiffer said. Pro-illegal alien groups like the National Council of La Raza want Obama to stay deportation proceedings for millions of illegals and place those people on a so-called path to citizenship consistent with an immigration reform bill approved by the Senate but stalled in the House, the Christian Science Monitor reports.

Pretending he’s interesting in the well-being of the Grand Old Party, Pfeiffer implied Republicans will take heat from voters if they oppose the Obama scheme.

Republican lawmakers will have to make a decision, he said: “Are they going to go back and try to pass comprehensive immigration reform – [after] which the president will rip up whatever executive action he does the day they pass that? Or are they basically going to set themselves up for the next two and a half years here to be arguing to elect a Republican in order to deport all these people?”

Pfeiffer threw out the red herring of impeachment, as if risk-averse Republicans in the Senate would ever convict Obama of what the Constitution calls “high crimes and misdemeanors” and remove him from office.

“The president acting on immigration reform will certainly up the likelihood that [Republicans] would contemplate impeachment at some point,” said Pfeiffer in an effort to drum up donations to the Democrats’ war chest.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has said he has no interest in initiating the impeachment process.

“This is a fundraising exercise for Democrats,” said Boehner aide Michael Steel. “It is telling, and sad, that a senior White House official is focused on political games, rather than helping these kids and securing the border.”

Steel wasn’t just shooting from the hip. The Washington Times reports that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) immediately began begging supporters for money after Pfeiffer’s statement. The email suggested that Boehner’s planned lawsuit against Obama for overstepping his constitutional authority “could lead to the impeachment of President Obama.”

Left-wing activists secretly plotted with Obama at a June 30 White House meeting, Time reports:

They hope [Obama's] decision will offer relief to a significant percentage of the estimated 11.7 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. ‘He seems resolute that he’s going to go big and go soon,’ says Frank Sharry, executive director of the pro-reform group America’s Voice.

An incredibly awful reform bill approved by the Democratic-controlled Senate last year is languishing in the Republican-controlled House. Open borders advocates hope lawmakers move on the legislation in the lame duck session of Congress that is expected to follow the November election.

Sen. Sessions previously described the measure as “dangerous,” saying it will devastate America’s labor marketplace and “guarantee” the country will have to grant “another amnesty” in the future.

In a time of unremittingly high unemployment, record food-stamp dependency, and economic stagnation, a minimum of 11 million illegal immigrants would immediately be given Social Security cards that would allow them to compete for government and blue collar jobs. The legislation puts “tremendous pressure” on the job market and makes it harder for workers to find jobs and leave welfare programs, according to Sessions.

Although amnesty remains deeply unpopular among the American public at large, the activist Left wants the low-ball estimate of 11 million illegal aliens present in the U.S. to be processed because they see them as future Democratic voters. In addition, many labor unions, such as SEIU (which has executives focused solely on immigration issues) see today’s illegals as future union members. Business lobbies favor amnesty because they crave the cheap, largely unskilled labor.

The Left’s goal with the current immigration bill, which a Heritage Foundation study found would lard $6.3 trillion onto the nation’s budget deficits over the coming 50 years, is the same as with most of its major policy initiatives over the past half century: To destroy the American system.

As this writer has opined previously, the radicals’ goal is to use immigration to subvert the American system, just as it has been since the 1960s when the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) shepherded reform of that era’s comparatively sensible immigration laws through Congress. The goal is to import Third World tyranny by flooding America with people who don’t share Americans’ traditional philosophical commitment to the rule of law, limited government, and markets. This would force changes in American society. Latinos are particularly hard to win over to the Republican side because they tend to be ideologically aligned with big-government solutions traditionally associated with Democrats.

An added benefit, from the Left’s perspective, is such a sweeping amnesty would destroy once and for all the Republican Party. Any new bleeding-heart voters it brings into the party will not even come close to offsetting the all-but-certain exodus of fed-up conservatives that enactment of the legislation would spur. Among those disgruntled Republican-leaning voters are the same people whose failure to vote in November 2012 helped to deprive GOP candidate Mitt Romney of the presidency.

Democrats, on the other hand, know with much greater certainty that the legislation will secure more votes for their party. “This legislation is all about the Democrats bringing in new voters who will assure them of a permanent leftist majority,” Paul Mirengoff has written.

President Obama is, of course, a master thespian.

To low-information voters, Obama must now seem like he is coming to the rescue, nipping a growing problem in the bud.

In fact he created all of this political theater, this manufactured border crisis, precisely so he could solve it. And the Radical-in-Chief doesn’t care how many people get hurt or killed as a result of his malevolence.

Gov. Perry sends a message to Central America -- and the White House.

Texas Governor Rick Perry announced Monday afternoon that he is sending 1,000 members of the Texas National Guard to the U.S.-Mexican border. “Over the years I have repeatedly called on the federal government to live up to its responsibility of protecting this great nation by securing the border,” said Perry, who added that he will “not stand idly by while our citizens are under assault and little children from Central America are detained in squalor.”

Under assault might be an understatement. According to Perry, more than 203,000 illegal aliens responsible for committing more than 640,000 crimes, including 3000 homicides, have been booked into Texas county jails since 2008. He further pointed out that the thousands of unaccompanied minors apprehended crossing the border comprise less than 20 percent of total influx and while enforcement agents are giving humanitarian aid to these children, “drug cartels, human traffickers and individual criminals are exploiting this tragedy for their own criminal opportunities.”

Perry’s contention about the percentage of children that illegally gain entrance to the United States was given substantial credence by the Obama administration itself. In a late Friday afternoon news dump aimed at minimizing media coverage, U.S. Border Patrol data revealed that while the number of unaccompanied alien children crossing the border has doubled to 57,525 in the nine month period from the beginning of FY2013 to the present, what the agency refers to as “family units” has seen a 493 percent increase from 9,350 to 55,420 over the same period. As the Daily Caller’s Neil Munro explains, the far more explosive growth of these family units “has been hidden by White House and agency officials, who have tried to portray the influx as a wave of children fleeing abuse and violence.” He further notes this portrayal “has been picked up and spread by Democratic legislators, reporters and bloggers” in an effort to mute the public’s anger regarding the Obama administration’s failure to secure the border.

In other words, a de facto invasion becomes a “humanitarian” crisis.

Perry was forced to address that portrayal on Sunday with Fox News’s Brit Hume who wondered if sending the National Guard to the border would actually work when children who have “undergone these harrowing journeys to escape from the most desperate conditions in their home countries” are confronted by troops “who won’t shoot them and can’t arrest them.” Perry replied that Hume was talking about “two different things” and that it was necessary to “send the message back now so that we can staunch (sic) the bleeding” even as the humanitarian crisis that already exists is addressed. “The issue is with being able to send that message,” Perry said. “The visual of it is more important. We know that. We listen to those conversations–or, I should say, conversations are being monitored with calls back to Central America–and the message is, ‘Hey, come on up here, everything is great, they’re taking care of us,’ and that needs to stop.”

The 1,000 troops are ostensibly a stopgap measure until Congress and the Obama administration address Perry’s request to hire 3,000 additional border patrol agents to work the Texas corridor. In a meeting with Perry and other officials in Dallas on July 9, Obama made it clear that despite Perry’s request he act unilaterally to address the crisis, he would not do so. “He suggested, well maybe you just need to go ahead and act and that might convince Republicans that they should go ahead and pass the supplemental,” Obama said. “I had to remind him, I’m getting sued right now by Mr. Boehner apparently for going ahead and acting instead of going through congress. Well, here’s a good test case.”

Nonsense. In 2006 George W. Bush ordered 6,000 troops to the border, (a number that has since dwindled to a current level of approximately 300) and Obama could do the same were it not for the reality that he prefers holding such action hostage to Congress passing his massive $3.7 billion emergency funding package. It is a package designed to remain in legislative limbo, as Republicans insist the primary focus should be stopping the influx at the border, while Democrats demand that the “humanitarian” crisis — in the form of new facilities and legal services — be the first agenda addressed.

In the meantime, the border remains a sieve.

Thus it was no surprise that Perry accused the federal government of paying “lip service” to the border crisis as he announced his deployment of “Operation Strong Safety.” He explained the National Guard will function as a “force multiplier on the ground and providing additional air assets beyond their current efforts.”

Because Perry has been forced to take this action after repeatedly asking the Obama administration to do it, Texas, rather than the federal government, will be picking up the tab for the deployment, expected to cost approximately $12 million per month. This arrangement also makes Perry the commander in chief of the troops unless Obama is willing to take over the mobilization at the federal level.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest made it clear that isn’t going to happen anytime soon, even as he characterized Perry’s efforts as symbolic. “Gov. Perry has referred repeatedly to his desire to make a symbolic statement to the people of Central America that the border is closed,” said Earnest. “And he thinks that the best way to do that is to send 1,000 National Guard troops to the border. It seems to me that a much more powerful symbol would be the bipartisan passage of legislation that would actually make a historic investment in border security and send an additional 20,000 personnel to the border.”

Again, utter nonsense with a dollop of disingenuousness plopped on top. As the Washington Post reveals, “top officials at the White House and the State Department had been warned repeatedly of the potential for a further explosion in the number of migrant children since the crisis began escalating two years ago, according to former federal officials and others familiar with internal discussions.” And the very same Lackland Air Force base that was opened up as a shelter for illegal youths in May, served in precisely the same capacity more than two years ago. “There were warning signs, operational folks raising red flags to high levels in terms of this being a potential issue,” one former senior federal law enforcement official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told the paper.

As for Perry’s symbolic statement, it is far better than the no-so-subtle message sent by the Obama administration as recently as last week. That’s when the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) was on the verge of completing a deal with non-profit network BCFS to house as many as 600 illegal alien children between the ages of 12-17 at a resort hotel complex in Texas, replete with three swimming pools, lighted tennis courts, and a Jacuzzi. The deal fell through when the reality of taxpayers footing the bill for the resort—along with a combination of BCFS services and newly-hired workers that could have cost as much as $50 million—became a public relations nightmare.

That would be the same Obama administration that initiated a public relations campaign in June to deter the massive influx of illegals from Central America. Americans might ask themselves which message resonates more: the notion that those getting into the country might not be able to stay here, or the one that lets those who do know there is a possibility they could be ensconced in a luxury hotel?

Yet even that message pales in comparison to another agenda being pursued by the Obama administration. A rule change known as the “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Rule” introduced by the administration in 2013 and set to take effect in October would give the administration vastly increased power over local zoning laws in any municipality that that accepts block grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The rule is backed by pro-amnesty advocates who see it as a vehicle allowing the administration to force those municipalities to house illegals.

Thus, it is unsurprising that Gov. Perry’s announcement was met with derision by Democrats who accused him of “militarizing” the border. “Militarizing our border is the wrong response to the arrival of children,” said Rep. Joaquín Castro (D-TX) in an email. “I remain hopeful that our state can provide a more helpful response than to send armed soldiers to greet children seeking refuge from violence.”

Perry rejected that notion. So did Congressman Louis Gohmert (R-TX). “Our nation is being invaded in what the U.S. Commanding General of SOUTHCOM described as an ‘existential threat,’” he said in a statement. As articulated in Article I, Section 10, of the United States Constitution, the State of Texas has the right to defend herself, as the largest invasion is coming into Texas.”

The Americans must decide which assessment is closer to the truth. Thus, a critical question arises: is the current fiasco occurring on our Southwest border a humanitarian crisis that has engendered an invasion, or an invasion that has engendered a humanitarian crisis? Our national sovereignty may depend on the answer.

For all intents and purposes, the Obama administration is engaged in human trafficking.

At a Senate hearing Wednesday, Health and Human Services Acting Assistant Secretary for the Administration for Children and Families Mark Greenberg admitted that, even if the Obama administration knew it was releasing Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) to other illegal aliens, they would do so based on the “totality of the circumstances” that apparently justifies such irresponsibility. However, when pressed by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), Greenburg made it clear the Obama administration doesn’t even want to know to whom they are releasing the children, disclosing the reality that HHS does “not verify the immigration status of the individual.”

Pressed further by Coburn, who wanted to know if HHS thinks it would be less likely for illegal alien parents to bring their children back to deportation hearings, Greenburg dug himself a deeper hole. “This is about who the child should live with while they’re awaiting the removal proceedings and during the removal proceedings,” he insisted. Coburn wanted to know if the refusal to inquire about the status of family members taking custody of illegal immigrant children was HHS policy. “Yes, that is the case,” Greenburg replied.

National Review’s Victor Davis Hanson emphasizes the utter lawlessness of such a policy. “Here in the U.S., how can our government simply choose not to enforce existing laws?” he wonders. Hanson then eviscerates the administration’s “Catch and Release” policy. “How can American immigration authorities simply send immigrant kids all over the United States and drop them into communities without firm guarantees of waiting sponsors or family? If private charities did that, would the operators be jailed? Would American parents be arrested for putting their unescorted kids on buses headed out of state?”

Hanson further notes the Mexican government is abetting the human trafficking. Despite having some of the “harshest” immigration laws in the world, where those illegally crossing the Mexican border are either summarily deported or jailed, there are “tens of thousands of Central American children crossing with impunity hundreds of miles of Mexican territory, often sitting atop Mexican trains,” he writes.

The network of Mexican freight trains to which Hanson refers are so well known that they have a name: Tren de la Muerte,” or “Death Train.” That appellation refers to the reality that children must hop aboard the trains while they are moving, and those that don’t make it are often severely injured. “The couplings between the cars are notoriously dangerous. I see children who have lost an arm and a leg or both legs,” said Erica Dahl-Bredine, an El Salvador representative for Catholic Relief Services. An aid group in Honduras confirms that assessment, tallying more than 450 illegals who have been mutilated.

And it’s not as if the Mexican government is unaware of the situation. The trains, also known as La Bestias, aka The Beasts, are a regular feature on the evening news in Mexico. They regularly depart from a depot at Arriaga, in the state of Chiapas near the Guatemalan border for the two-week journey to the U.S. border, during which they are routinely accosted by gangs, and drug traffickers who subject the “passengers” to rape, kidnapping, extortion and mugging. In addition, corrupt local officials demand bribes in exchange for allowing those passengers to continue on their journey.

How is this possible? “Human despair has been turned into a commodity, a flourishing business for illicit enrichment,” explains Huffington Post contributor Homero Aridjis.

It is illicit enrichment that flows overwhelmingly to a number of drug cartels. They have taken over a largely informal border smuggling business formerly operated by “coyotes” and turned into a sophisticated human trafficking operation where they maintain control of the entire border, as well as the routes leading up to it. As a result there has been a tenfold increase in the cost of getting across the border, from approximately $300 to $500 often paid to a single coyote, to as much as $3,000 to $6,000 per person, with prices often determined by age, gender and country of origin.

Furthermore, this “business model” may be successful to the point where it might be more lucrative than drug smuggling. According to statistics from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), total seizures of cocaine, heroine, marijuana and methamphetamine have declined in every state that shares a border with Mexico. Yet most telling, that decline has been greatest in Texas, which is the epicenter of the current crisis. The DEA and the U.S. Border Patrol refuses to confirm that the two are causally related, but Arizona Border Patrol spokesman Peter Bidegain insists the smugglers will “use what’s successful, so they’ll try anything.”

The apprehension of a staggering 57,000 UACs since October 2013—the latest revision of the total revealed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Gil Kerlikowski at a Senate hearing Wednesday–coupled with the additional 240,000 illegals apprehended since April, suggests the success has been overwhelming. If one takes the lowball figure of $3,000 per person and multiplies it by the number of apprehensions, human trafficking has turned a profit of $891 million over the last eight months.

And all of it is being abetted by an Obama administration that knows the overwhelming majority of UACs released into the general population will never show up for their deportation hearings. At the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs hearing Wednesday, Thomas Winkowski, deputy assistant secretary for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement admitted as much, revealing that only 1300-1500 of the UACs from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, the three countries fueling the crisis, have been deported so far. That number represents just over 3 percent of the total number of UACs apprehended to this point.

Statistics presented at a House Judiciary Committee just over two weeks ago paint an even grimmer reality. First, Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) revealed that since 2011, ICE has only been able to remove fewer than 2,000 minors per year. Tom Homan, the official overseeing ICE’s removal operations, revealed a big reason why. “Last year we removed 1,800, but again as I said about the immigration courts: When we looked at all the unaccompanied alien children that were filed with the immigration court in the last five years, 87 percent of them are still in proceedings. We have no final orders,” Homan said.

Naturally, President Obama blamed Republicans for the crisis. At a press conference Wednesday night he insisted their opposition to his $3.8 billion spending request—along with their failure to pass comprehensive immigration reform–is facilitating it. “Are folks more interested in politics or are they more interested in solving the problem?” Obama said he asked Texas governor Rick Perry. “If they are interested in solving the problem then this can be solved. If the preference is for politics then it won’t be solved.”

Obama’s idea of “solving” the problem is to wait until Congress passes the appropriations bill before he will do anything about sealing the border—if at all. Hot Air’s Noah Rothman cuts through such transparent disingenuousness, explaining that in an emergency, “the executive branch does not wait for Congress to pass funding before it acts. It is beyond insulting to suggest that emergency supplemental funding is a precondition for a response to an emergency,” he writes.

It is even worse than that when one recalls Obama telling Americans in January that he has a pen and a phone, ”And I can use that pen to sign executive orders and take executive actions and administrative actions…”

And as hypocritical as the president is, the appropriations package is even more so. Dan Cadman at the Center for Immigration Studies analyzed the bill. He explains that 49 percent, or $1.8 billion, of the total requested by Obama would be spent on resettlement costs, not just for UACs, but entire family units. Another $5 million would be spent breaking the law because it would go to DHS attorneys tasked with defending UACs in court, even though “Section 292 of the Immigration and Nationality Act specifically prohibits representation of aliens in immigration proceedings at government expense.” Much of the enforcement portion of the funds would be spent on recouping costs for temporary detention and subsequent resettlement of illegals, 47 percent of whom are adults.

He also notes the “meager” $109 million being requested to facilitate anti-smuggling investigative efforts is destined to achieve limited success because the U.S. has “very little influence over ineffectual or corrupt police and military services in the source and transit countries, to ensure that they root out criminal gangs responsible for the smuggling.”

Cadman then levels the boom on the Obama administration.”On the U.S. side, the ones responsible for predicating the effort through contact with, and payment to, the gangs are often the parents or other relatives of those being smuggled and, rather than investigate and prosecute such individuals to the full extent of the law, the government instead acts as the ultimate delivery agent, passing along the smuggled-but-apprehended alien to the people who paid to have him or her smuggled,” he explains.

On Tuesday, Fox 11 News reporter Gigi Graciette tweeted that sources have informed her that three individuals on the government’s terrorist watch list attempted to cross the border from Mexico to California. Breitbart News reports that six individuals from Afghanistan, Iraq, and Yemen were recently picked up by the U.S. border patrol near Laredo, Texas. A November 2012 House Committee on Homeland Security report from the Oversight Sub-Committee revealed that “the U.S. Border Patrol regularly apprehends aliens from the 35 ‘special interest countries’ designated by our intelligence community as countries that could export individuals that could bring harm to our country in the way of terrorism.”

Between Fiscal Years 2006 and 2011, apprehensions of 1918 special interest aliens occurred at the nation’s Southwest border.

“The drug cartels will bring people into the country no matter who they are—for money,” explains Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX). “Everyone in the world knows that the border between the United States and Mexico is completely porous.” That includes an Obama administration that abets human trafficking—and a Commander-in Chief whose immigration agenda trumps any connect-the-dots commitment to national security. Pathetic.

One small town uses the Left's own playbook to fight Obama's orchestrated border chaos.

When President Obama began dumping busloads of newly arrived illegal aliens on small town America to force so-called immigration reform he probably didn’t expect residents of a small California city to take a heroic stand against his lawless assault on the nation’s immigration system.

But grassroots activists in Murrieta, California, near San Diego, have been using the Left’s own playbook against the Community-Organizer-in-Chief’s efforts to force an unprecedented loosening of the nation’s largely unenforced immigration laws. Last week the protesters used the tactics of civil disobedience by blocking federal authorities from bussing in hundreds of illegal immigrants who snuck into south Texas. The feds have vowed to don riot gear in order to transport the illegals to Murrieta but that has not happened yet.

The illegals turned back by angry crowds were bound for what federal authorities called a “housing facility,” but local residents say such a facility doesn’t exist in Murrieta.

Longtime Murrieta resident John Henry said it appeared federal officials intended to place the aliens in the local Border Patrol station, which has only five holding cells.

“There are no showers, and there’s only one toilet in each cell. There’s really no place to give them hot food and no beds. There’s nothing here for them–we literally don’t have any way to take care of these people.”

Henry added, “We additionally don’t have any places for these people to go after they are processed.”

Henry told Breitbart News that the illegals, unaccompanied minors and women from Central America, are being sent to Republican-supporting communities like his city to send those opposed to open borders a political message.

“The administration thinks that if it floods our streets, in small town America, they can force us into immigration reform,” he said. “These immigrants should not be here. The only reason that they are coming here is for political reasons.”

“This is a small town – it’s mostly conservative – and the federal government knows that. The main reason a lot of us are out here protesting is because we do not want these people being dumped into our small town where we do not have programs or the resources to take care of them properly.”

Henry and his fellow protesters have been attacked by left-wingers who prefer hurling epithets to answering arguments.

In a Huffington Post op-ed, commentator Raul A. Reyes smeared the protesters as “anti-immigrant.” The protests themselves were motivated by “racism and xenophobia” and constituted “a shameful, sickening display of anti-immigrant sentiment.”

Except there is no evidence the activists were motivated by anything other than disgust at the Obama administration’s failure to enforce federal law. Nor is there proof that the activists were “anti-immigrant.” Anti-illegal immigrant, sure, but that’s an altogether different thing.

A group calling itself the Tequila Party is demanding the activists be jailed for daring to protest.

California attorney Ruben Salazar, pro-amnesty activist Dee Dee Garcia Blase, and Nebraska attorney Shirl Mora James wrote a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder and FBI Director James Comey asking for an “outside investigation” of local politicians and law enforcement officials in Murrieta.

They accuse activists in Murrieta of being “homeland domestic terrorists (masquerading as patriots),” and claim that they were “obstructing federal law enforcement from performing their jobs and terrorizing small refugee immigrant children from Central America with racial slurs.”

Apparently civil disobedience is only acceptable when left-wingers do it.

Moreover, the Tequila Party doesn’t understand the meaning of the word refugee.

A refugee, under the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, a multilateral treaty that was ratified by the United States, is:

“A person who owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality and is unable or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country … ” [italics added]

Barring evidence of persecution under any of the five specific grounds, these people are in fact economic migrants, as opposed to refugees. The fact that life is less than optimal in countries like Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador doesn’t make those who leave their countries to sneak into the U.S. legitimate refugees.

The chaos on the U.S.-Mexico border that is now being swamped by uninvited visitors has been a long time coming.

Obama and generations of leftist politicians before him have been using immigration to subvert the American system. In the 1960s the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) shepherded reform of that era’s immigration laws through Congress. The concept is simple: Flood America with people who don’t share Americans’ traditional philosophical commitment to the rule of law, limited government, and markets, in order to force changes in society.

It’s the Cloward-Piven Strategy of orchestrated crisis as applied to immigration policy.

In the Sixties, Marxist academics and activists Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven called upon activists to pack the welfare rolls in order to spread dependency, bankrupt the government, and cause uprisings against the capitalist system.

Overburdening government bureaucracies would cause “a profound financial and political crisis” that would unleash “powerful forces … for major economic reform at the national level,” they argued in their seminal 1966 Nation article.

Overwhelming local and state governments with illegal immigrants, who qualify for taxpayer-supplied benefits such as free health care, education, and housing aid, might make those governments so desperate that they throw their political support behind the kind of so-called comprehensive immigration reform that the Left favors. After all, when was the last time Congress refused a bailout to anybody?

Although the disorder at the border has been building over time, President Obama gave a green light to would-be illegal immigrants when he indicated he has no interest in enforcing U.S. immigration laws.

Obama has provided executive amnesty and work permits for illegal immigrants covered by the proposed “DREAM Act” that Congress has repeatedly rejected. That legislation, if enacted, would cover individuals who claim to have entered the U.S. as minors under their parents’ guidance.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a directive in August 2013 expanding that amnesty to illegal immigrant relatives of “DREAM Act” beneficiaries. DHS issued another directive in December 2012 reinforcing the existing policy under which almost all immigration offenses were deemed unenforceable absent a separate criminal conviction.

Meanwhile, local media reported late yesterday that no new arrivals are expected to fly into nearby San Diego for the rest of this week: “Murrieta police say Border Patrol officials notified them late Wednesday afternoon that there will be no flights of immigrants from Texas arriving in San Diego on Thursday or for the rest of the week.”

It’s a small, and likely temporary, victory.

He never bothered to spell out the unspoken corollary to that appalling statement: And if there is no serious crisis available, manufacture one.

The American left has followed that pattern for generations. The left destroyed the nuclear family by incentivizing women to give birth out of wedlock. When out-of-wedlock births exploded, they used that as an excuse to elevate federal spending, elevate taxes and disestablish marriage between a man and a woman as a moral standard. The left crafted a health care crisis by instituting price and wage controls that led to employer-sponsored insurance, and then undercut that insurance with excessive regulation and easy lawsuits. They used elevating costs as an excuse to push Obamacare and elevate taxes.

Now, the left, under Obama, has crafted the mother of all crises: an influx of tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors crossing America’s southern border. Some of these minors carry disease. Virtually all carry wounds, either physical or psychological, from their criminal coyote guides. That crisis is not Obama’s Hurricane Katrina, as some have speculated. Katrina was an act of God, and its botched handling the act of men. This entire situation is an act of Obama. And he couldn’t be happier as he watches frustrated Americans take to the streets in Murrieta, California, to protest his lawlessness.

Obama created this situation, and he certainly knows how to exploit it. Obama wants to campaign based on the suffering of these children. He wants to push for higher taxes based on their unequal economic status. He wants their eventual votes for the left. He wants the federal government to punish American citizens tired of watching their government abandon them.

It’s all part of the agenda.

Obama and the media maintain the absurd fiction that Obama was thunderstruck by this crisis.

Obama himself has assured the public that he wants all of the new arrivals sent home forthwith and that they were foolish to believe they could stay.
Foolish?

Four years ago, the Obama Justice Department sued the state of Arizona for daring to enforce federal immigration law, and sanctuary cities across the country remained unscathed. Two years ago, Obama declared that all illegal immigrants between the ages of 16 and 30 who had not committed criminal felonies — the so-called Dreamers — would remain in the country. This week, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Arizona would have to hand out driver’s licenses to the Dreamers, and the city of Los Angeles announced it would no longer cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement in holding requested illegals for 48 hours after their jail terms expired.

Those desperate to come to America would be fools not to jump at the chance. And their dangerous decisions to send their own children across thousands of miles of desert in the company of likely drug cartel associates underscores their certainty: They’re willing to risk the lives of their children, knowing that so long as the children get to the border, Obama will legitimize them, and then, by extension, their entire families.

This, of course, is precisely what Obama wanted them to think. Now he has his crisis. And he’ll exploit it for everything it’s worth, no matter how much blood is spilled in the deserts of Mexico or the streets of Murrieta.

America's first line of defense against foreign threats is wearing thin.

The term “The thin blue line” is associated with law enforcement, especially the police. The phrase is based on the usual color of the police uniform and the fact that the relatively small numbers of sworn police officers is all that stands between the citizenry of towns, cities and states and criminals.

The uniforms that the members of the United States Border Patrol wear is green. Sometimes the Border Patrol has been referred to as the “Green Machine.” The mission of the United States Border Patrol is to secure America’s borders between ports of entry against the illegal entry of aliens whose presence would be harmful or dangerous to America and Americans. The idea is to make certain that aliens seeking entry into the United States are subjected to the inspections process conducted by CBP (Customs and Border Protection) Inspectors.

The guiding principle behind the inspections process is to make certain that aliens who should be excluded from the United States are prevented from entering the United States. One of the sections of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) is Title 8, United States Code, Section 1182, enumerates the categories of aliens who are to be excluded and includes aliens who suffer dangerous contagious diseases, severe mental illness and are violent, aliens who are convicted felons, human and/or narcotics traffickers, human rights violators, war criminals, spies, terrorists and aliens who would likely become public charges or work illegally therefore displacing American workers or driving down the wages and/or working conditions of American workers.

The law, incidentally, is utterly and totally blind as to race, religion and ethnicity.

While the advocates for open borders describe aliens who evade the inspections process as being “Undocumented,” in point of fact, these aliens are Un-Inspected. In fact, my colleagues and I at the former INS referred to the method of entry of aliens who evaded the vital inspections process as being EWI (Entry Without Inspection).

This is hardly inconsequential. To draw a comparison- would you, or any reasonable person be willing to board an airliner if you observed several passengers sneak past the TSA inspectors and get on the airliner you were about to board? I am very confident you would not.

Why then are we being forced, by our own government, to live among unknown millions of foreign nationals (aliens) whose true identities- including their country of citizenship, possible criminal histories and possible affiliation with criminal or terrorist organizations or medical or mental well-being is unknown and unknowable?

You should also consider that an alien who is “undocumented” has no official and reliable identity document to provide clear evidence about his (her) true identity. It may, in fact, be that this individual has such an identity document but has decided to conceal or destroy it, knowing that his name is on terror watch lists or is a wanted fugitive. The term “undocumented” is hardly as innocuous or inconsequential as the immigration anarchists would have us believe.

In addition to preventing the entry of aliens whose presence would be problematic for America and Americans, the Border Patrol is also charged with preventing the entry of contraband.

The valiant men and women of the United States Border Patrol constitutes that “Thin green line” that is all that stands between America and its citizens and international terrorists, transnational criminals and contraband and including narcotics and possibly, God forbid, a weapon of mass destruction.

Today with tens of thousands of illegal aliens charging our southwest border, Border Patrol agents have been taken off of their usual duties relating to securing our already extremely porous borders and assigned to providing concierge service to these illegal aliens, many of whom are reportedly unaccompanied minors.

I wrote about this outrageous situation in my previous commentary for Front Page Magazine that was published on June 11, 2014, “Obama’s Manufactured Crisis at the Border.”

The reassignment of these Border Patrol agents endangers national security and public safety as well as public health. It also makes it far more likely that aliens who evade the inspections process will succeed in covertly entering the United States. As more aliens succeed in evading detection and apprehension, more aspiring illegal aliens will become encouraged and emboldened to charge our borders.

The mission of the United States Border Patrol, as noted on the official website of CBP (Customs and Border Protection) the parent agency of the Border Patrol, is as follows:

MISSION

We are the guardians of our nation’s borders.
We are America’s frontline.
We safeguard the American homeland at and beyond our borders.
We protect the American public against terrorists and the instruments of terror.
We steadfastly enforce the laws of the United States while fostering our nation’s economic security through lawful international trade and travel.
We serve the American public with vigilance, integrity and professionalism.

Considering the critical significance of securing the borders of the United States, the question that has not been raised by our political leaders from either political party, however, is why on earth are Border Patrol agents being used (misused) this way?

When other countries around the world experience humanitarian crises, members of our armed forces are generally sent to those countries to lend assistance. Why then is the administration not similarly using members of the armed forces including the National Guard to deal with the humanitarian component of this crisis along our Southwest Border, thus freeing up our beleaguered Border Patrol agents?

There is an expression that says, “You can never be too safe!” Considering that our borders (and our immigration laws) is our first line of defense and last line of defense, the corollary of that statement is that our borders can never be made secure enough.

Indeed, our borders are far from secure. While the administration may try to “spin” arrest statistics of the Border Patrol to bolster claims that our borders are secure, the best metric has nothing to do with the numbers of illegal aliens claimed to have been arrested by the Border Patrol. The best metric to determine the true state of U.S. border security can be found in the price and availability of cocaine and heroin, two substances that are not produced in the United States but are smuggled into the United States from foreign countries.

Today our nation is awash in those illegal substances as evidenced by the undeniable fact that police departments across the United States are providing their members as well as other first responders with the antidote to heroin overdoses which are currently at historically high levels. Every gram of these drugs represents a failure of border security.

How much more contraband will be successfully smuggled into the United States as our Border Patrol agents are diverted from their essential mission of securing our border to change diapers and act as baby sitters and chauffeuring illegal aliens to bus terminals and airports, arguably acting in violation of the laws contained in the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).

Under the provisions of one of the sections of law contained in INA, Title 8 USC § 1324 – Bringing in and harboring certain aliens, it is a felony to aid, abet, encourage or induce aliens to enter our country illegally or remain in our country illegally. It is also a felony to harbor, shield from detection or transport such illegal aliens.

So-called “Sanctuary Cities” would certainly appear to be in violation of this section of law, but that is an issue for another day and another commentary.

Out of stated concerns about public safety, politicians from a number of cities and states have enacted laws to tighten up on the issuance of carry permits for personally owned weapons and concealed carry permits as well as limiting the number of rounds of ammunition that magazines used in semi-automatic handguns can hold.

The theory offered in conjunction with these laws and regulations is to keep high-capacity magazines out of the hands of those who might engage in acts of violence as we have seen in the horrific images and reports of mass shootings. Of course, this presumes that the mentally unbalanced, criminals and terrorists will carefully count the number of bullets they place in their magazines and not seek to purchase or manufacture large capacity magazines. What is never discussed is that the great majority of crimes, especially violent crimes, have a direct nexus with use of illegal drugs and violent gangs which, coincidentally, receive much of their funding from drug trafficking and related crimes. Terror organizations also derive huge sums of money from the sale of illicit drugs.

Once again, these crimes and activities are the direct result of failures of border security.

On June 11, 2014 FrontPage Magazine posted my article, “Obama’s Manufactured Crisis at the Border.”

In that article I provided this paragraph from the conclusion of my prepared testimony for the March 20, 2013 Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the topic of “Building an Immigration System Worthy of American Values.”

Law enforcement is at its best when it creates a climate of deterrence to convince those who might be contemplating violating the law that such an effort is likely to be discovered and that if discovered, adverse consequences will result for the law violators. Current policies and statements by the administration, in my view, encourages aspiring illegal aliens around the world to head for the United States. In effect the starter’s pistol has been fired and for these folks, the finish line to this race is the border of the United States.

Of course when I testified before that hearing more than one year ago, no one could have imagined just how bad things would get along the Southwest border, with reverberations being felt from coast to coast and border to border.

While local, state and the federal government generally all ramp up enforcement when laws are violated, creating a deterrence against those violations of law, where violations of our borders and our immigration laws are concerned, many of our “leaders” from both political parties trip over themselves to create more incentives for aliens to violate our borders and our immigration laws. They use uncharacteristic creativity to find ways to exacerbate the situation, thereby imperiling the safety and well-being of America and Americans.

This must stop before America suffers yet another catastrophe. The clock is ticking and time, most certainly, is not on our side.

How many bases across the country are redistributing illegal immigrants?

A source tipped me off last week to a curious occurrence: It seems that two planeloads of illegal aliens were recently shipped to Massachusetts. The first reportedly landed at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford. According to my tipster, approximately 160 illegal immigrants arrived on that flight and stayed nearly a week before being transferred to a Department of Homeland Security site and then released.

The second flight reportedly was diverted from Hanscom to Boston’s Logan Airport this past weekend. I am told that both Massachusetts and New Hampshire officials were on hand. I reached out to Hanscom AFB for confirmation, but did not receive a call back by my deadline.

Question: How many other military bases are stealthily being used to redistribute, house, process and release illegal border crossers?

What we do know for sure is that the Obama administration already has converted several other military bases across the country into outposts for tens of thousands of illegal aliens from Central and South America.

San Antonio’s Lackland Air Force Base opened its doors as an illegal immigrant camp last month. Port Hueneme Naval Base in Ventura County, Calif., will shelter nearly 600 illegal border-crossing children and teens. The Fort Sill Army post in Lawton, Okla., was ordered on Friday to take in 1,200 illegal aliens despite the objections of GOP Gov. Mary Fallin, who blasted the White House, saying, “The Obama administration continues to fail in its duty to protect our borders and continues to promote policies that encourage, rather than discourage, illegal immigration.”

A makeshift detention center in Nogales, Ariz., is being used as the central clearing station for the latest illegal alien surge. The deluge is a threat to national security, public safety and public health — not to mention a slap in the face to the law-abiding men and women in uniform on those bases and a kick in the teeth to law-abiding people around the world patiently waiting for approval of their visas.

Meanwhile, a law enforcement source in Texas tells me this week that countless illegal aliens are being released into the general public despite testing positive for tuberculosis.

“The feds are putting them on public transportation to God knows where,” he said.

Another source, working in the border patrol in south Texas, tells me: “Our station, along with every other station, is flooded with women and small children. One lady yesterday had a baby as young as 8 months. And they’re coming over with pink eye and scabies. So getting them medically cleared becomes a priority. They’ll be here for almost a week, so we provide them with formula and diapers. We have a catering service contracted to feed them because it’s too many for us to feed on our own. And of course, they end up being released because every family housing facility is full. They’re supposed to show up for immigration court at a later date, but they don’t.”

Same old, same old. I’ve reported for years on the feds’ catch-and-release games and deportation Kabuki. The “notice to appear” letters — known as “run letters” — are a notorious joke in open-borders circles.

The latest “crisis” is a wholly manufactured byproduct of White House administrative amnesties, which are supported by a toxic alliance of ethnic-vote-seeking Democrats and cheap-labor-hungry Big Business Republicans. The flood comes just as Obama’s DHS announced a two-year extension for beneficiaries of the “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” (DACA) program. A whopping 560,000 illegal aliens have been granted amnesty under DACA and also have received employment authorization.

As I’ve said for two decades, illegal alien amnesties guarantee two things: more illegal immigration and more Democratic voters. Now we have a White House forcing U.S. military bases to provide interminable benefits and services to illegal aliens for political gain, while said White House evades responsibility for allowing military veterans to die waiting for the most basic of medical services.

And where’s the GOP “leadership” in this country? Doing the bidding of the amnesty-loving U.S. Chamber of Commerce and demonizing Republican candidates at every level who are sick and tired of giving away the store and the country.

God save us from bipartisanship.

A grim example of the law of unintended consequences.

Last week, the lawlessness of Obama’s non-deportation policy came home to roost when Homeland Security (DHS) estimated 60,000 “unaccompanied alien children” were expected to enter the country illegally this year. The figures have since gone up to 90,000, which is more than a ten-fold increase from 2011. Unsurprisingly, according to interviews with those caught, the news waves are directly related to Obama’s rolling orders to DHS to ramp up amnesty efforts wherever possible. Yesterday, Senator Cornyn of Texas called Obama’s continued amnesty push an “extremely dangerous incentive for children” and “a painful example of the law of unintended consequences.”

Stories have been ongoing of illegal alien children, teens and adults being flown around the Border States in search of any government facility that may have available space. After it was reported last week that Greyhound stations in Phoenix were becoming drop-off points for detained-illegals flown in from border-checkpoints in Texas, Arizona’s Governor Brewer fired off a letter to the President asking him to end his “unconscionable policy.”

Considering the depth and scale of Obama’s subversion of our immigration laws, the prospect of thousands more children and teens illegally entering the country won’t likely change his approach to border security any time soon. After all, as it was revealed last December, DHS has actually been directly and proactively facilitating human-trafficking for quite some time.

In the case of U.S. v. Nava-Martinez, border agents busted a repeat-felon attempting to smuggle a 10-year old El Salvadorian girl across a checkpoint in Texas later discovering that the operation was organized by the girl’s mother, an illegal alien living in Virginia. But when the agents contacted DHS officials they refused to arrange for her arrest. Instead, according to Judge Andrew Hanen of the Southern District Court of Texas, DHS “successfully complet(ed) the mission of the criminal conspiracy” by flying the child to her mother in Virginia at taxpayer expense.

The order issued by Judge Hanen is a crushing rebuke of Obama’s DHS. In it he warns that such immoral and illegal policies would dramatically increase the number of minors attempting to make the dangerous trip across the border. With DHS’s new estimates and the huge problems hitting the Border States, we can now see how right the good judge was.

In just the previous month alone, Judge Hanen had seen four cases of “DHS completing [a] criminal conspiracy… by delivering [minors caught at the border] to the custody of parents illegally living in the United States.” In none of the cases were the children detained or the illegal alien parent deported.

Besides the concerns that DHS’s facilitation of illegal activities works to decrease border agents’ morale and helps fund drug cartels (the chief operators of human smuggling rings), the remarkably prescient judge had noted that such a policy “undermines the deterrent effect the laws may have and inspires others to commit further violations.” The consequences of this undermining effect we’re now seeing and hopefully it’s becoming clear to the elite and media classes just how dangerous it is to play politics with immigration enforcement.

Since the first amnesty in 1986, the illegal alien population has ballooned from 3 million to 12 million with most of that increase coming in the last decade. Obama’s first administrative amnesty in 2012, the “Deferred Action for Children Arrivals” program, applied specifically to children and young adults, which, along with further mini-amnesties since, has acted as an announcement to the people of Mexico and Central America that the US is not at all serious about its border security.

Who knows what the next round of figures from DHS will be, but it’s possible they’ll be double or even triple the recent estimates. The same goes for deaths at the border, which have already been on the increase since Obama started his amnesty-push. As Judge Hanen devastatingly wrote at the close of his order, if DHS persists with such a policy, “more children are going to be harmed, and DHS will be partly responsible because it encourages this kind of Russian roulette.” It’s now time for Obama and Democrats to finally consider the consequences of their policies, which harm citizens on both sides of the border, and turn off the amnesty magnet.

What the president must do to turn the tide.

On March 20, 2013, I testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on the topic of “Building an Immigration System Worthy of American Values.” I concluded my prepared testimony for that hearing by saying,

Back when I was an INS special agent I recall that Doris Meissner who was, at the time, the commissioner of the INS, said that the agency needed to be “customer oriented.” Unfortunately, while I agree about the need to be customer oriented what Ms. Meissner and too many politicians today seem to have forgotten is that the “customers” of the INS and of our government in general, are the citizens of the United States of America.

As bad as things were 15 months ago when I testified before that Senate hearing, things have gotten far worse. A human tidal wave of young illegal aliens is now crashing on America’s southern border each and every day. They have been spurred on by the clear messages being sent to aspiring illegal aliens from around the world that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), an agency that is charged with protecting our homeland, has been reduced to providing concierge service for aliens who violate our borders and violate our immigration laws.

It has been said that we only get one opportunity to make a first impression. Generally speaking, the first laws foreign nationals encounter when they deal with the United States are our immigration laws. The statements of the president and high-ranking members of his administration could not provide more encouragement to people from around the world that our borders and our laws do not matter.

When Congress repeatedly refused to go along with the DREAM Act, the president acted unilaterally invoking what he deemed “prosecutorial discretion” to provide hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens who may be as old as 31 years of age with temporary lawful status, including employment authorization, if they claim to have entered the United States before their 16th birthday. I purposely used the term “if they claim” because these hundreds of thousands of un-inspected aliens will most likely not be interviewed nor will agents be made available to conduct investigations into the applications that they file. This is a virtual open invitation to fraud.

On June 17, 2012 Fox News Latino published my op-ed “Obama Invokes Prosecutorial Discretion to Circumvent Constitution and Congress,” in which I raised my concerns about this ill-conceived program initiated by the president to do an end-run around Congress, the legislative process and, indeed, the Constitution.

It is vital to note that the 9/11 Commission identified immigration fraud as a key tool used by terrorists to enter the United States and embed themselves in the country, yet the issue of the 9/11 Commission, its report or the companion report issued by the 9/11 Commission staff known as The 9/11 Commission Staff Report on Terrorist Travel, are almost never raised by politicians from either side of the political aisle.

Here is the way that the preface of the staff report on terrorist travel begins:

It is perhaps obvious to state that terrorists cannot plan and carry out attacks in the United States if they are unable to enter the country. Yet prior to September 11, while there were efforts to enhance border security, no agency of the U.S. government thought of border security as a tool in the counterterrorism arsenal. Indeed, even after 19 hijackers demonstrated the relative ease of obtaining a U.S. visa and gaining admission into the United States, border security still is not considered a cornerstone of national security policy. We believe, for reasons we discuss in the following pages, that it must be made one.

This paragraph is found on page 98 under the title “Immigration Benefits”:

Terrorists in the 1990s, as well as the September 11 hijackers, needed to find a way to stay in or embed themselves in the United States if their operational plans were to come to fruition. As already discussed, this could be accomplished legally by marrying an American citizen, achieving temporary worker status, or applying for asylum after entering. In many cases, the act of filing for an immigration benefit sufficed to permit the alien to remain in the country until the petition was adjudicated. Terrorists were free to conduct surveillance, coordinate operations, obtain and receive funding, go to school and learn English, make contacts in the United States, acquire necessary materials, and execute an attack.

While advocates for comprehensive immigration reform refer to aliens who evade the inspections process as simply being “undocumented” in an obvious attempt to minimize the true significance of how they violated our laws, the hard truth is that they are un-inspected. The term my colleagues and I used at the former INS to describe this method of entering the United States is EWI (Entry Without Inspection).

On June 3rd I was interviewed by Andrew Wilkow on his program on the Blaze TV Network about the crisis on our border created by our own government.

As I noted during my interview, no rational person would get on board an airliner if he (she) saw fellow passengers get onto that airplane after sneaking past the TSA personnel at an airport. Today, however, Americans in every town and city across this vast nation are being forced to live among unknown millions of foreign nationals who evaded a similar inspection process conducted at ports of entry.

One of the sections of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) is Title 8, United States Code, Section 1182 which enumerates the categories of aliens who are to be excluded. Among these classes are aliens who suffer from dangerous communicable diseases or extreme mental illness. Additionally, convicted felons, human rights violators, war criminals, terrorists and spies are excluded as well as aliens who would seek unlawful employment or become public charges.

While many Republican politicians may publicly decry the failures of the administration to secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws, in point of fact they take no meaningful action because they also want to see a massive influx of aliens into the United States to satisfy the demands of their wealthy campaign contributors. They see the current disaster on our border as a win/win. They can make all of the statements that they want criticizing the president and yet, without lifting a finger, their contributors get what they want. Meanwhile the Republicans don’t leave any fingerprints at the “scene of the crime.”

Indeed, what is taking place is a crime, apparently violating the provisions of Title 8 USC § 1324 – Bringing in and harboring certain aliens, a section of law that is comprehended within the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). The law states that it is a felony to aid, abet, encourage or induce aliens to enter our country illegally or remain in our country illegally.

Here is an excerpt from that section of law:

Title 8, U.S.C. § 1324(a) defines several distinct offenses related to aliens. Subsection 1324(a)(1)(i)-(v) prohibits alien smuggling, domestic transportation of unauthorized aliens, concealing or harboring unauthorized aliens, encouraging or inducing unauthorized aliens to enter the United States, and engaging in a conspiracy or aiding and abetting any of the preceding acts. Subsection 1324(a)(2) prohibits bringing or attempting to bring unauthorized aliens to the United States in any manner whatsoever, even at a designated port of entry. Subsection 1324(a)(3).

Harboring — Subsection 1324(a)(1)(A)(iii) makes it an offense for any person who — knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States in violation of law, conceals harbors, shields from detection, or attempts to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection, such alien in any place, including any building or any means of transportation.

Encouraging/Inducing — Subsection 1324(a)(1)(A)(iv) makes it an offense for any person who — encourages or induces an alien to come to, enter, or reside in the United States, knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such coming to, entry, or residence is or will be in violation of law.

Conspiracy/Aiding or Abetting — Subsection 1324(a)(1)(A)(v) expressly makes it an offense to engage in a conspiracy to commit or aid or abet the commission of the foregoing offenses.

Time and again we hear how our educational system needs to be improved. Now the administration, aided and abetted by politicians from both sides of the political aisle, is encouraging hundreds of thousands of young illegal aliens to run our borders. They are not being deported but being re-united with their illegal alien relatives in the United States and will, undoubtedly be enrolled in schools across the United States, flooding classrooms that are already overcrowded.

Furthermore, studies conducted by the Congressional Office of Management and Budget have shown that it costs 20% to 40% more to educate students who lack English proficiency.

Senator Jeff Sessions, one of the few “good guys” in the United States Senate, wrote an opinion piece for Breitbart that was published on June 9, 2014, “Exclusive–Sen. Jeff Sessions: Obama ‘Committed to Escalating’ Lawlessness at Border.”

Here is how his article began:

There is now an unprecedented crisis unfolding at the border. The flow of illegal immigrant youth across the southern border is on track reach 130,000 next year—a projected increase of more than 2,000% from 2011. The White House estimates the cost of “resettling” these illegal immigrants in the United States will reach $2.3 billion in a single year.

This crisis is a direct and predictable result of the President’s sustained and deliberate campaign to dismantle immigration enforcement. His administration has announced to the world that our nation’s immigration laws will not be enforced and that, in particular, they will not be applied to foreign youth.

The world has heard and heeded the president’s message. A wave of illegal immigration has overwhelmed authorities, producing a completely preventable humanitarian crisis—and further diminishing the integrity of our national borders. And there is but one way for the crisis to end: for the president of the United States to declare to the world: “Do not attempt to come here illegally. Our border is no longer open. Our laws will be enforced.”

Overwhelming our resources impacts America and Americans across the country and undermines national security, public safety, public health, education, healthcare and a host of other issues. It also leads more desperate people from around the world to head for the United States.

Rahm Emanuel, a close political ally of President Obama and currently the mayor of Chicago, Illinois has been quoted as saying:

“You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.”

The current crisis found along our southwest border was carefully manufactured by the administration and the president must be made to answer one key question, “Why?”

The Obama administration is determined to continue mocking the separation of powers concept contained in the Constitution. Thus, the president is contemplating another unilateral move with regard to illegal immigration, allowing some illegal aliens brought here as children to serve in the United States military.

The move is an outgrowth of another unilateral decision made by Obama, known as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). DACA provided work permits and deferred action from deportation to approximately 500,000 younger illegals who met certain eligibility criteria. The Defense Department “continues to examine the laws and policies that address the eligibility of noncitizens to serve in the military in order to determine if and how our programs could be applied to DACA recipients,” Pentagon spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Nate Christensen said in a statement.

The move is yet another effort to push the envelope on comprehensive immigration reform cherished by the administration, the Democratic Party and a substantial number of Republicans. Several members from both parties hardly need pushing. Efforts were made to attach immigrant-related measures to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) being debated this week. Reps. Joaquín Castro (D-TX) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) submitted an amendment aimed at allowing DACA beneficiaries, better known as “Dreamers,” to attend military academies. “The administration’s Deferred Action policy allowed many of these Dreamers to live, study, and work in this country without the fear of deportation,” Castro said in a statement about his amendment. “However, we must ensure that the doors of opportunity are not closed to them as they strive to get ahead.”

A trio of House Representatives submitted two different amendments aimed at allowing illegal aliens to join the military. Rep. Mike Coffman’s (R-CO) proposal also included a subsection that would grant “permanent residency” status to qualified enlistees. Reps.Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Jeff Denham (R-CA) filed a measure on Monday called the Enlist Act that would also allow enlistees to become eligible for citizenship. It was co-sponsored 50 House members, 26 Democrats and 24 Republicans. “There is no better way to show your patriotism, your commitment, your sacrifice and the willingness to earn that citizenship than being willing to serve in our military,” Denham asserted.

Apparently it has escaped Denham and others that a better way to demonstrate one’s commitment to the nation might be respecting its laws. Laws that include going to the back of the line of those attempting to immigrate here legally.

Fortunately, in an early Wednesday morning vote, the House Rules Committee blocked the immigrant-related amendments to the NDAA. A spokesman for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) explained the Enlist Act would not be part of the NDAA debate. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) was of like mind—temporarily. “We have supported it in the past, but trying to do this on the National Defense Authorization bill seems to be an inappropriate place to do it,” Boehner explained.

Rep. Castro was upset. ”I’m disappointed that expanding opportunity to all of our students to the U.S military academies is not allowed to be part of the discussion about our nation’s defense readiness,” he said in a statement.

Castro’s disappointment pales in comparison to that of Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL). In testimony on Monday before the Senate Appropriation’s Defense Subcommittee on the same subject, Gutierrez insisted that “our society must work around the fact that our immigration laws are thirty years out-of-date and the military is no exception.” Toward the end of his testimony, he doubled down. “The fact that we have an estimated 11 million or more people living and working here underground is a serious national problem that must be resolved,” he declared. “We have as a society rightly concluded that driving out 11 million people and their families is bad policy. But leaving the status quo is no solution, either. In the meantime, every institution in America, including our military, must work around the inability of our federal government and the U.S. House of Representatives to fix our immigration system.”

In other words, a United States congressman who took an oath to support and defend the laws of this nation is advocating for overt and widespread lawlessness. In a nation where the rule of law still mattered, calling for “every institution in America” to disobey the law this would be strongly condemned. In this nation, “noble” agendas now trump “trivial” legalities.

On Tuesday, Senate Democrats revealed their latest noble agenda. After meeting with pro-immigration advocates at the Capitol, they announced their intention to rally around one idea, as in focusing all of their efforts on recalcitrant House Republicans from now until the beginning of August when the Senate ends their current session. “We talked about doing everything we could to get the House to act before August recess,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) following the meeting. “If they don’t act, you know, then the president is going to have no choice but to act on his own. But we’d all prefer that there be a legislative solution.”

Those who attended the meeting were primarily leftist pro-immigration factions, along with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Democratic members of the Senate Gang of Eight that crafted the bill currently languishing in the House. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) reportedly made the most persuasive case for waiting until August, in the hopes that legislative reform, with the full force of law behind it, would be enacted, rather than the kind of temporary relief implemented by the president.

Nonetheless not everyone was on board. Some at the meeting insisted that genuine movement on the issue must be seen by the Fourth of July recess, or early July. If not they expect “Senate Democratic leadership to be hand-in-hand with us completely on a broad relief both in terms of enforcement reforms and affirmative relief,” said Marielena Hincapie, executive director of the National Immigration Law Center.

Clarissa Martinez de Castro, director of civic engagement and immigration at the National Council of La Raza, echoed that assertion. “I think the pressure is going to continue mounting on all sides,” she said. “We are going to continue pressuring the White House. Whenever there’s delay on the issue of immigration, it hasn’t really served us well.”

Unsurprisingly, “us” doesn’t include millions of Americans who will be ill-served, including the 47 percent of long-term unemployed Americans who say they’ve “completely given up on looking for a job,” or the 60 percent who say looking for work has been harder than expected, according to a Harris Poll. Nor are pro-immigration advocates the least bit concerned with a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report revealing that average wages “would be slightly lower than under current law through 2024,” and “slightly raise the unemployment rate through 2020.”

All that currently matters to the coalition of leftist activists and Democrats, who envision a permanent leftist hegemony, and like-minded Republicans, along with the Chamber of Commerce and various technology firms who envision an endless supply of cheap labor, is being able to sell this monstrosity to an American public disguised as bipartisan cooperation, rather than the sellout of American exceptionalism it truly represents.

What little resistance remains among Republicans was addressed by Boehner spokesman Michael Steel. “Speaker Boehner has been very clear about this: He wants to fix America’s broken immigration system,” said Steel, “But no one trusts the White House to enforce the law as written.”

Including illegals themselves. A “crisis” condition has been declared in Texas, where so many undocumented and unaccompanied children from Central America have snuck into the country that the Border Patrol cannot find enough shelter to house them all. It is part of an effort by immigrant smugglers to take advantage of a U.S. law that prohibits children from being deported unless they are from Mexico. Children from everywhere else must be turned over to the Department of Health and Human Services, increasing their chances to stay in the country—and making it possible that their parents and other relatives can join them.

Astoundingly, more than 60,000 unaccompanied children are expected to cross into Texas this year alone. According to the report, many of them are being driven by the thought of getting DREAM Act amnesty, even though “it may not pass” and “only covers children who came here with their illegal immigrant parents, not alone, and children have to have entered the U.S. before 2012 to be eligible for the program.”

Really? The law was unilaterally enacted by the president, absent any input from Congress. Is there even a scintilla of doubt it could easily be “adjusted” when Democrat and media-fueled cries to do so “for the children” fill news cycle after news cycle?

A short editorial in the Salt Lake Tribune gets to the meat of such contempt for the law. It notes that a lack of enforcement in exchange for granting amnesty to nearly 3 million illegal aliens in 1986 has resulted in four times that number of illegals living in America today. It also poses the ultimate question Americans must ponder, following the passage of comprehensive immigration reform. “With the lack of will to enforce the law, what is the plan for the next 12 million illegal immigrants?” it asks.

Sadly, it’s an optimistic question. An additional 12 million illegal aliens attempting to enter the country in the hopes that still another round of amnesty will pass might be a modest total. That’s because Americans tend to think of illegal immigration as a problem almost wholly associated with nations to our south. The world is a far bigger place, and an American “welcome mat”—comprised of self-interested constituencies coupled with widespread contempt for the law—suggests we may be dealing with a far larger and more widespread assault on our borders in the future. And that’s assuming the word “border” retains any meaning at all in America’s future.

The real takeaway from the GOP cliff dive that is amnesty is that if your policy is so unpopular that you have to…

A. Lie compulsively about it before you even introduce it

and

B. Your lie is that your policy is the opposite of what it really is

Then maybe you should just stop.

The GOP has kept on trying to sell amnesty by mislabeling it as border security, which is the opposite of what amnesty really is. It’s like trying to sell sentencing reform that will free convicted murderers by pretending that it’s a tough on crime policy.

Now it’s regrouped to selling amnesty as… getting right with the law, when it actually ignores the law.

Supporters of immigration reform have carefully poll-tested the words they use to advocate an overhaul of the nation’s immigration system. “The language on this stuff is really important,” says one expert who’s been intimately involved in the work.

The language is really important when you’re using it to lie to people.

What does work? Words and phrases that focus on the law. “Rule of law,” for example, is quite effective. But perhaps the most effective phrase for reform advocates now is “get right with the law,” as in requiring currently illegal immigrants to comply with strict legal requirements as a condition of allowing them to live openly in the United States.

“Get right with the law” is popping up a lot in the immigration debates. For one thing, it was included in the House Republicans’ 804-word statement of principles released Thursday: “Our national and economic security depend on requiring people who are living and working here illegally to come forward and get right with the law.”

Let’s get right with the law… by legalizing heroin.

We need to get right with the law… by freeing serial rapists.

It’s time to get right with the law… by completely discarding it when it comes to illegal aliens in this country.

“When you’ve got an issue that would … allow folks who are here illegally to get right with the law … you shouldn’t be looking for an excuse not to do it.” — President Obama, Nov. 13.

“[There] ought to be a rule-based system so that we secure the border, interior enforcement, while we fix and get people right with the law without producing amnesty…” — Republican Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, Jan. 30.

When you start sounding like Emperor Pen and Phone, you’re not right or with the law.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) seems determined to undo the political advantage the GOP has gained from the disastrous implementation of ObamaCare. According to the New York Times, Boehner “has signaled he may embrace a series of limited changes to the nation’s immigration laws in the coming months,” bringing up a series of bills to advance that agenda. Apparently Boehner is holding firm to the belief that the need for some kind of “reform” outweighs the risks of alienating his core constituency.

According to the Boehner’s aides, the Speaker is considering a “step by step” process, though they did not identify these steps in specificity. The Times, no doubt in an effort to be “helpful,” suggested that such an agenda might include fast-tracking legalization for agricultural workers, increasing the number of visas for high-tech workers, or embracing citizenship for young illegals whose parents brought them across the border.

Unsurprisingly, gaining control of the border failed to make the list.

Immigration activists were ostensibly buoyed by two recent indications that Boehner is becoming more attuned to their concerns. First, in an effort to push what he called a “common sense” overhaul of the system, Boehner hired Rebecca Tallent. Tallent is a former staffer for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and former House member James Kolbe, a Republican who represented Arizona’s 8th congressional district. Tallent is a pro-amnesty advocate who has been involved in the creation of broad legalization bills for McCain and Kolbe over the last decade. “Tallent’s hiring suggests [Boehner] really does still want to push an amnesty through the House, which to me suggests that the immigration hawks still have their work cut out for them,” said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies. “She is a professional amnesty advocate.”

Boehner’s aides claim she was brought in to represent his views and not her own. Reform advocates paint a far more realistic picture of the hire, contending that there was no reason to hire Tallent unless Boehner was prepared to address the issue.

Boehner’s aides noted that he remains opposed to the so-called “Gang of Eight”-sponsored Senate bill that sailed through that chamber on a bipartisan vote of 68-32 last June. “The American people are skeptical of big, comprehensive bills, and frankly, they should be,” Mr. Boehner told reporters last month. “The only way to make sure immigration reform works this time is to address these complicated issues one step at a time. I think doing so will give the American people confidence that we’re dealing with these issues in a thoughtful way and a deliberative way.”

However, the coordinated pressure of immigration activists and their allies casts doubt on the possibility of addressing immigration issues in a thoughtful or deliberative way. Activists who participated in acts of civil disobedience late last year to further their agenda are planning new demonstrations for Washington, D.C. and other cities in 2014. Business groups, including tech companies from Silicon Valley and the Chamber of Commerce will be initiating new lobbying campaigns. Faith, immigrant rights, and labor organizations who launched the Fast For Familes campaign late last year have promised to ramp up the pressure as well.

The strategy behind the push is to get the legislative ball rolling in the House sometime in May or June, after Republicans running in 2014 have finished their primary campaigns. After that, the hope is that some sort of bill will reach President Obama’s desk before the 2014 election campaign gets in full gear. “That’s our first window,” said Jim Wallis, the president of Sojourners, a Christian social justice organization in favor of Amnesty. “We are organizing, mobilizing, getting ready here. I do really think that we have a real chance at this in the first half of the year.”

If that strategy fails, activists envision another effort during the lame-duck session of Congress following the election. That would represent their last chance for using parts of the Senate bill as the basis for any compromise, because it expires at the end of this year. Thus, much like 2013, they are emphasizing the urgency of getting something done, sooner rather than later.

In the Times‘ telling of things, some sort of immigration reform is necessary to make the Republican Party palatable for Hispanics, who are “crucial to the party’s fortunes in the 2016 presidential election.” Leaving aside for the moment the absurd notion that anyone on the left, much less the New York Times, has any interest in helping the GOP enhance its fortunes, reality also reveals otherwise. In every presidential election going back to 1980, Hispanics have overwhelmingly favored the Democratic Party by an average margin of 64-31 percent.

That includes the 1988 election when George G.W. Bush beat Democrat contender Michael Dukakis in a 41 state vs. 9 state blow out. Duakais garnered 69 percent of the Hispanic vote to Bush’s 30 percent in the first presidential election following the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act that granted outright amnesty to 2.7 million illegal aliens. Because the two other critical provisions of that bill, namely a crackdown on businesses that hire illegals and enhancing border security, were virtually ignored, America now faces the prospect of more than four times that number of illegals — assuming the much-touted, but unverifiable number of 11 million is accurate – demanding amnesty.

The idea that Hispanics will eventually embrace conservative values is equally absurd. A 2012 survey conducted by the Pew Hispanic Center reveals that while only a 41 percent minority of Americans in general favor bigger government and more social services, a full 75 percent of Hispanics embrace that fundamental pillar of the American left. And while that percentage decreases among Hispanics who have been here longer, it still remains at 58 percent for those who have been here for three generations or more. Assuming current trends continue, Republicans might squeak out a bare majority of the Hispanic vote in time for the presidential election of 2036.

Immigration reform advocates, who endured their last defeat on the issue in 2006, insist the public embraces a different attitude on the subject eight years later. Again, a Pew poll reveals that Americans remain largely wedded to the ideas contained in the 1986 bill, with 85 percent believing employers should have to verify the legality of all new hires, and 68 percent favoring increased security measures and enforcement at U.S. borders. And while 72 percent of Americans support allowing illegals to remain in the country, they do so only after certain requirements, such as paying back taxes, learning English, and passing background checks, are met first. Furthermore, despite that approval, more than half of those polled remain opposed granting citizenship to illegals.

A Gallup poll taken after the 2012 election confirms that opposition. Only 37 percent of Americans favor a pathway to citizenship, and 62 percent want illegal immigration halted completely. Yet the party breakdown of the numbers is far more significant. Forty-nine percent of Democrats favor a pathway to citizenship, compared to only 25 percent of Republicans. Eight-two percent of Republicans want to prioritize stopping the flow of illegals, versus only 48 percent of Democrats.

In other words, unless the first thing out of the legislative box has something to do with stopping the flow of illegals and eschewing anything regarding a pathway to citizenship, Republicans are virtually certain to alienate a substantial portion of their core constituency if they go along with the Left on immigration.

An unnamed top Republican aide contends that won’t happen. “They won’t try to push through something that conservatives can’t live with,” the aide told the Times. Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH), a member of the Judiciary Committee, reflected the essence of conservative opposition. He characterized a pathway to citizenship as “unfair to the millions of people who are trying to come to this country and follow the rules as they are,” further insisting that Republicans shouldn’t get “stampeded into something that’s not good for the country.” Chabot supports Hispanic outreach. “But I don’t think the immigration bill itself is something that’s going to accomplish that,” he contends.

Roy Beck, CEO and founder of NumbersUSA was blunt regarding the GOP’s motivation for reform, insisting Boehner is beholden to large campaign donors. “He wants it, Number 1, to give the tech contributors what they want on tech visas and, Number 2, to give the ag lobbyists what they want on farmworker visas,” Beck said. “He also is heavily influenced by the Republican National Committee consultants who just want to get the issue off the table.”

Yet the issue is only on the table if Boehner puts it there. Republicans have a party retreat scheduled later this month and immigration reform will undoubtedly come up. They might want to consider two realities as part of the discussion. First, it takes a remarkable level of political tone-deafness to begin dealing with an issue that is not only inimical to the interests of their base, but one that is contentious enough to take the focus off the debacle of ObamaCare wholly owned by Democrats. A party with visions of holding the House and taking the Senate might be wise to remember that one of the primary reasons Mitt Romney lost the 2012 presidential election was because a huge portion of the electorate stayed home, due in large part to their belief that there isn’t a dime’s worth of difference between the two political parties. Republicans embracing anything other than a hard stance on reform would exacerbate that reality. If they do, it isn’t hard to envision a low-turnout election that maintains the current status quo.

Second, as long as an Obama administration with a track record of selective and capricious law enforcement capabilities remains in power, who’s to say what part of any new law won’t receive the same treatment? As Breitbart News revealed last October, Shawn Moran, Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council, insisted that Border Patrol agents were being ordered to stand down and allow illegal aliens, human traffickers and drug cartel members, to cross the border. Budget cuts were the ostensible reason for the order, but Moran noted the Border Patrol “has a larger budget than ever,” but it has “not trickled down to the men and women with their boots on the ground.” Obama also unilaterally authorized his own version of the DREAM Act a year earlier.

If that’s still not enough for the GOP, they should consider one more reality. A Gallup poll released last May asked Americans what the most pressing priorities of the nation are. Of the twelve separate categories, reforming immigration finished dead last. Creating jobs and growing the economy finished one and two. In light of a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) report released last June, predicting the Senate immigration bill would drive down wages and make it harder for Americans to find jobs — not to mention a Heritage Foundation report asserting reform would cost taxpayers $6.3 trillion in new spending on entitlements and social programs over a 50 year period –Republicans might want to reorder their own priorities. A viable opposition party is a terrible thing to waste.

Why conservatives may be more vulnerable than ever to persuasion.

America remains mired in the weakest recovery since WWII. The unemployment rate of 7.4 percent obscures the reality that we have the lowest workforce participation rate since 1978, 75 percent of the jobs created in 2013 are part-time with lower wage levels, and American incomes have declined 4.4 percent since the recovery began in 2009. In short, Americans need jobs. Despite that reality, President Obama is aiming to pursue comprehensive immigration reform, even though it is utterly anathema to the interests of American job-seekers.

A report issued last summer by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) reveals that American job-seekers would get hit with a double whammy of lower wages and higher unemployment levels. “Taking into account all of those flows of new immigrants, CBO and JCT expect that a greater number of immigrants with lower skills than with higher skills would be added to the workforce, slightly pushing down the average wage for the labor force as a whole, other things being equal,” the report states. “Although the average wage would be lower than under current law over the first dozen years, the minimum wage would keep the wages of some less skilled workers from falling, dampening businesses’ demand for those workers,” the analysis added.

Comprehensive immigration reform supporters cling to the one nugget of good news in the report, noting that the CBO estimates a reduction in the federal budget deficit of $175 billion over the first ten years folowing reform, along with a decrease in the federal deficit by another $700 billion the decade after that. In other words, the federal deficit would be reduced by an average of $43.75 billion per year over 20 years. In March, the Senate adopted its first formal budget in four years. They want to spend $3.7 trillion for 2014. Thus, assuming the CBO numbers are accurate, America would be shaving a grand total of just under 1.2 percent off 2014′s budget total. Since the federal budget has nearly doubled since 2000, the ongoing savings over the course of two decades would amount to little more than a rounding error.

Furthermore, assuming the CBO’s calculations are accurate is a big “if.” According to a devastating report by the Heritage Foundation, comprehensive immigration would cost taxpayers $6.3 trillion in new spending on entitlements and social programs over a 50 year period. Heritage contends that $9.4 trillion in government benefits included in the Gang of Eight bill, namely Social Security, Medicare, social programs like Medicaid and food stamps, and coverage under Obamacare, would be offset by only $3.1 trillion in taxes paid by those who receive de facto amnesty.

The business community isn’t buying Heritage’s contentions. As a result, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, along with the nation’s leading trade associations, will be backing Republicans who favor immigration reform when they run against Republican candidates who don’t in upcoming primaries. In Michigan, Reps. Justin Amash and Kerry Bentivolio will be targeted. In Alabama, business groups hope to undermine the candidacy of Dean Young, whose grassroots campaign propelled him into a Republican Party runoff with former state Senator Bradley Byrne. Business groups may also support Republican incumbent Rep. Mike Simpson, who faces a tea party challenger who pushed Simpson to embrace defunding ObamaCare.

The business community’s agenda is largely hypocritical. In September, the chief human resources officers of more than 100 large corporations sent Reps. John Boehner (R-OH) and Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) a letter, asking them to “enact legislation to fix the broken immigration system and work with the Senate to ensure that a bill is signed by the President this year.” Among the signees were Tracy Keogh, Executive VP for Human Resources at Hewlett-Packard. Hewlett-Packard laid off 29,000 employees in 2012. Cisco Systems’ Senior VP of Chief Human Resources Officer Kathleen Weslock also signed the letter, even as her company has laid off 8,000 workers over the last two years, and has announced a cut of an additional 4,000 this year. American Express’s Chief HR Officer, L. Kevin Cox also signed the letter, even as his company laid of 5,400 workers in 2013. So did Proctor & Gamble’s Chief HR Officer, Mark F. Biegger, despite a 2012 announcement that P&G would eliminate 5,700 jobs.

Several other companies, including T-Mobile, Archer-Daniels-Midland, Texas Instruments, Cigna, Verizon and General Mills also participated in this undermining of the American labor force, despite the signees insisting that “many of our companies continue to have difficulty finding sufficient American workers to fill certain lesser-skilled positions.” They further contended that comprehensive immigration reform “would be a long overdue step toward aligning our nation’s immigration policies with its workforce needs at all skill levels to ensure U.S. global competitiveness.”

Ensuring “global competitiveness” could severely damage the American middle class, due in large part to the reality that the legalization of 11 million illegals would also legalize an additional 17 million immigrants over the next decade as part of the family reunification process. Yet business leaders remain adamant. “We urge Congress not to miss this opportunity to level the playing field for U.S. employers” the letter states. “We can’t afford to wait.”

Equally impatient are immigration activists ratcheting up the pressure on both political parties. On October 11, protesters in Tucson, AZ chained themselves to three buses, demanding a halt to Operation Streamline, a program that either prosecutes or seeks to deport illegal aliens caught at the border. The following Monday, 250 protesters showed up at ICE headquarters in Phoenix. Last Thursday in San Francisco, protesters shouting, “Undocumented, unafraid!” surrounded another bus containing illegal aliens in the custody of immigration officials. Ironically, in both Arizona and California, activists have vented their wrath against President Obama, whom they labeled the Deporter-In-Chief.

Frank Sharry, who heads America’s Voice, a Washington D.C.-based organization that favors more flexible immigration laws, made the agenda of the activists clear. “Of course, advocates and activists want Congress to act, but if they don’t, we won’t go away,” he promised. “We’ll get louder, stronger and more confrontational. That’s what movements have always done. And that’s what our movement is already doing.”

The National Immigration Forum (NIF), an organization funded by leftist heavyweight George Soros, is also lending its weight to the reform push, organizing a “fly in” of ostensible conservatives to lobby House Republicans. This will be the second fly-in organized by the NIF, following one earlier in the year targeting the Senate, which has already passed their version of reform. This one is aimed at House Republicans who believe that securing the border must occur prior to any kind of legalization efforts.

Perhaps fittingly, those efforts could be hampered by what just happened with regard to the government shutdown. Yesterday, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), one of comprehensive immigration reform’s biggest supporters, noted that the exceedingly acrimonious stance taken by Obama and his fellow Democrats during the shutdown may have poisoned the well with regard to a reform bill. “Immigration reform is going to be a lot harder to accomplish than it was three weeks ago,” he contended, further noting that he agreed with Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID) who said Republican leadership would be “crazy” to negotiate with a president who could be as recalcitrant regarding immigration reform as he was during shutdown negotiations. Labrador also reminded his colleagues that Obama is “trying to destroy” the GOP. Despite this reality, Rubio remains committed to reform. “There’s no argument the immigration system has to be fixed,” he told Fox News.

At what price? As American Thinker’s Tara Sevatius explains, comprehensive immigration reform serves the left’s interests far more than those of conservative Americans. If 11 million illegals are granted amnesty, “the shift to an America one-party state will accelerate at warp speed,” she writes. She further notes that Republicans are kidding themselves if they think Hispanics will eventually embrace conservative values, citing a 2012 survey taken by the Pew Hispanic Center. It revealed that a staggering 75 percent of Hispanics prefer “bigger government and more services.” That compared to only 41 percent of the American population as whole that wants the same thing.

Furthermore, the Hispanic community’s affinity for Democrats is hardly news. They have consistently supported Democrats by wide margins, going all the way back to 1980.

Regardless, it would appear that immigration reform is moving to the front burner once again. Thus, in the next few months the American public will be bombarded with volumes of information attempting to convince them that the the legalization of 11 million illegal aliens currently in the country, along with the 17 million immigrants added to that total over the years, is a net plus for the nation.

Yet American workers who will be forced to compete with millions of mostly low-skill workers for jobs–even as job creation remains stagnant–would be wise to remember basic economics. Basic economics explains that more of anything makes each individual unit of that thing worth less. More American workers competing with newly legalized immigrants for scarcer and scarcer well-paying jobs is no exception to that rule.

“The racially derogatory I-word endangers basic human rights"

Recently the N Word, and by that I mean Janet Napolitano, got a job in a place even more dysfunctional than the United States government. The University of California.

To commemorate her arrival, the UCLA student government, which is a lot like the worst of the United Nations and the European Union combined, have denounced the use of the I Word. Not Idiot, which is the proper name for the people behind this, but Illegal Immigrant.

Considering the success that MSNBC had reducing the Redskins to the R Word, it seems our language will soon be enriched with a lot more truncated unpronounceable words.

The undergraduate student government at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday calling for the end of the use of the phrase “illegal immigrant,” saying it violates human rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.

“The racially derogatory I-word endangers basic human rights including the presumption of innocence and the right to due process guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution,” the resolution states.

I didn’t realize illegal immigrant was a race. Apparently now it is.

You may laugh at the stupidity, but people who think in insane ways like these already hold Federal judgeships and even have a place on the Supreme Court.

The resolution came in response to undocumented students who had “expressed their concerns and fear with the recent appointment of Janet Napolitano, former US Secretary of Homeland Security,” as the new University of California president.

Yes, if there’s anything to be worried about it’s that Janet will provide amnesty to anyone at UCLA failing classes.
