The Michael Brown and Eric Garner verdicts and the future of African-American youth.

Decades ago, I taught at a community college. The bunch of us treated our shared office as if it were the neighborhood bar. We’d hang out for hours. That beat going home to our cheap apartments or our parents’ basements and watching TV, which was all we could afford on the pittance adjunct professors are paid. James was a jazz musician. Mo’s nose was always to the grindstone. Patrick was enthralling. I wish I had had a video camera recording our every conversation. His words glittered.

Melvyn was only a teenager. He was a new kind of person – a computer nerd – on the cusp of a revolution that would enrich many. Education was just beginning heavy reliance on computers. We profs were luddites. We would fumble with the computers – accidentally unplug them with our feet – and squeal that this was a sign of the end times. Young Melvyn to the rescue. Melvyn had a bouncy step, a perpetual smile, and a know-it-all air: that combination of goofy youthfulness and superior impatience exhibited by a hundred other computer geeks on a hundred other campuses. Melvyn’s hours seemed to be pre-dawn through midnight. Young Melvyn was the computer demigod.

Now, decades later, James is near retirement as the president of a better community college. Mo is still plugging away, at a higher-paying university. Patrick, brilliant Patrick, never landed the tenure-track, Ivy League position that could match his outsize intellect. He drank. He was homeless. He died.

The last anyone had heard of Melvyn, he was in jail. He had been stealing computers. Melvyn was the one member of our group who was born at the right place and the right time to parlay his freakish natural gifts into the best-paying job and the cushiest future. He destroyed all that with stupid, unprofitable, recklessness.

Melvyn was black. The scuttlebutt was that Melvyn had felt uncomfortable being the computer demigod of an academic setting, accepted by whites. Stealing computers restored his sense that he was authentic. He was in solid with his homies. He was sticking it to the man. The man who liked, trusted, and relied on him.

James is just as black as Melvyn. Mo is an immigrant with the kind of facial hair seen on many an FBI wanted poster, a foreign accent and a name that sets off alarms – Mohammed. James and Mo were able to build comfortable lives in America. Melvyn could not. But then neither could Patrick, a tall, handsome, heterosexual, Irish-American.

I’ve been thinking a lot about American tragedies and American Dreams in the wake of the Michael Brown and Eric Garner grand jury verdicts. I’ve also been thinking about my current young students’ futures.

I walk to work through Paterson, NJ, a post-industrial, high-crime, majority-minority city. My commute helped change me from someone who once voted communist to someone who now shocks herself every time she pulls the lever for a Republican.

As I walk, I pass healthy African American men in the prime of life who spend their days smoking joints and gossiping on streets littered with trash that no one but the rain ever removes. The day of the Trayvon Martin verdict, I was stopped by police cars, flashing lights, and yellow tape. I actually hoped for civil unrest. Something to show that Paterson still had a pulse. In fact one of Paterson’s former silk mills, a three-story brick structure, had completely collapsed. The bricks that sprawled chaotically, good only for blocking traffic, once surrounded industry founded by Alexander Hamilton and workers that gave Paterson an international reputation as “Silk City.”

There are facts, and there are stories. Impersonal forces like gravity, chemical bonds and time create facts. Humans create stories. Facts are objective. Stories are subjective.

It is a fact that police kill a disproportionate number of black males. What is the story one builds around those facts? For me, the pressing question is: what story is most likely to condemn my students to jail terms alternating with de facto incarceration on garbage-strewn street corners? What story will empower my students to become like James, an African American college president?

Here’s the story Della Kurzer-Zlotnick is telling. In December, 2014, Kurzer-Zlotnick, an Oberlin student, posted a letter to her professor on her Facebook page. In her letter, Kurzer-Zlotnick asked that her final examination in statistics be delayed.

“Students of color, particularly Black students, have suffered significant trauma,” she wrote, “due to the Grand Jury decisions” and thus they “are not at all in a place to take their final exams right now.” “Black students” are “struggling and feel traumatized because of the recent and day-to-day acts of racism in this country. Black students and other students of color have to focus on their survival.” Kurzer-Zlotnick herself identifies as “a white, middle-class person” who has “to [sic] privilege of being able to step away from these events and put enough energy into schoolwork and finals to assure that I will pass my classes.” But, she says, “Just because the murders of Eric Garner and Michael Brown do not seem to threaten the survival or safety of white people does not mean that they are not severely affecting students on our campus.” Those students, she reports, “are tired, they are hurting beyond belief.”

Kurzer-Zlotnick describes herself thus,

“I’m 18. My biggest passion is social justice and community organizing…At my synagogue, Shir Tikvah. I had the social action position when I was 15, and I didn’t really know what that meant – I just knew I cared about social change and progress.”

According to Forbes, the total annual cost for a student to attend Oberlin is $62,000. Five percent of Oberlin’s student body is black. Thirteen percent of the overall American population is black.

Is Kurzer-Zlotnick’s letter telling a true story? Are African Americans so burdened by murderous police that they can’t function, and do they need rich, white liberals, who publicly admit to their own cluelessness, and who live in white enclaves, to make excuses for them and to lower standards for them? And is this the route to a better tomorrow for all?

Here are some more facts, and a different story told by a different teller. One of my students, Terry, is an African American. Terry had a difficult semester, too. Terry was traumatized by life events too personal and too crushing to recount here, but please imagine the worst. Terry never asked for special treatment; in fact Terry never initiated disclosure. I noticed that Terry was depressed and I asked why. Terry never missed a class. Terry produced work so far superior to that of others that I asked to display it as an exemplary model.

And here is yet another story. After the Michael Brown and Eric Garner grand jury verdicts were announced, a concerned friend emailed me. “Be careful,” he warned. “They are predicting black rage.”

In the days subsequent to the Brown and Garner verdicts, my black neighbors are saying to me what they usually say. “Good morning … nice weather … my kid is giving me a hard time … my dog wants to go for a walk.” Al Sharpton called for protests in Paterson. I saw no protests in Paterson.

Other news is claiming our attention in Paterson in December, 2014. There are, of course, the usual drive-by shootings, heroin busts, and deadly fires. But lately we’ve learned that in the entire city, only nineteen students scored high enough on the SAT to be deemed “college ready.” This while sixty-six employees in Paterson schools earn at least $125,000 annually. Paterson teacher Lee McNutly went public to allege that his school was nothing but a chaotic “indoor street corner” where teachers were coerced into falsifying records in order to ensure six-figure bonuses to administrators. Paterson school #20 displayed a large sign for a week that contained multiple misspellings, in spite of parental complaints. All these local stories demanded more attention than alleged “black rage” over the Garner verdict.

And yet Jesse Jackson insists that it is inevitable that black people “explode” in riots. In late November, 2014, after riots in Ferguson, Missouri, CNN’s Don Lemon interviewed Jesse Jackson. Lemon, who is black, said that “Lawlessness and violence should not have happened and there should be no excuses made for it.” “If people need jobs,” Lemon asked, “why would you burn down a store where you could possibly get work? What does one have to do with the other? What does lawlessness have to do with lack of jobs?”

Jackson responded. “There is a body of people who after a long train of abuses simply explode…Pain can lead to irrational conclusions. To be locked out of police departments, fire departments, contracts and schools. Those factors matter.”

Here’s another story. A youtube poster calling herself Honestly Speaking posted a video entitled “The Mike Brown Fiasco” on December 2, 2014. Two weeks later, it had over a million views and seven thousand up votes. Honestly Speaking looks into the camera and shouts. She shouts that Mike Brown was a “disrespectful” thief, “asshole” and someone who “don’t contribute nothing to society” “who started the trail that lead him to his death. Just because he is black does not change the fact that he committed a crime.” She denounces protests as “bleeding heart bullshit.” Honestly Speaking is a black woman.

I am a former leftist and I know how facts are spun. “Truth is that which serves the party.” Ideologues will insist that black people like James, who became a community college president, are statistical anomalies, that black people like Don Lemon who push back against Jesse Jackson are sellouts or self-hating blacks, “house niggers” or Uncle Toms. Ideologues will insist that my black neighbors who did not riot after the Eric Garner verdict suffer from “false consciousness.” Ideologues will insist that African American students like Terry who do well within existing institutions are pawns whom The Man allows to succeed at the expense of their oppressed brethren – it’s all a conspiracy. In this spinning of Terry’s story, Terry’s success only delays the inevitable and necessary revolution. Ideologues reserve their most toxic vitriol for outspoken and admired black women like youtube poster Honestly Speaking. She’s already responded in a youtube video to being called a “race traitor.”

The left claims women and minorities. When women and minorities resist the left’s lure, we receive the harshest punishment. Witness what the left does to Sarah Palin, Deneen Borelli, or even Juan Williams.

Here are some facts. My coworkers describe hiring committees that decide that only African American candidates will be considered, even though that policy is not stated in the job description. Whites will apply, but will not be considered. My students and coworkers, who often are members of minority groups themselves, gossip angrily of others, including family members, who slack or claim preferential treatment because of their skin color. Maureen describes to me her volunteer work as a mentor for African American interns at a Fortune Five Hundred company. It maddens her that these interns need to be trained in basics like arriving on time, dress and comportment. I see monies, positions, programs, scholarships, that have been designated for African Americans, go begging, because they lack appropriate applicants. I see extended hands that reach out to emptiness. I see highways to success with no traffic on them. I see, in short, many Melvyns.

The past is prelude. We’ve seen these riots before. Jesse Jackson excuses them; implies that they are the way that African Americans can get jobs they would not otherwise get. Is that true?

The National Bureau of Economic Research is the largest economics research association in the United States. It is notable for the number of its research associates who are also winners of the Nobel Prize in Economics. The NBER published two papers in 2004, “The Economic Aftermath of the 1960s Riots: Evidence from Property Values” and “The Labor Market Effects of the 1960s Riots.” These papers indicate that the race riots of the 1960s “had economically significant negative effects on blacks’ income and employment.” It’s not just that cities affected by riots, like Newark, became dysfunctional and welfare-dependent ghost towns in the immediate aftermath of rioting. These riots had longer term, insidious, and all but invisible impact. Before the riots, the difference between what white workers earned and what black workers earned was becoming smaller. Black workers began to earn more. The narrowing of the gap between black workers’ wages and white workers’ wages accelerated during the 1940s – before the Civil Rights Movement. The riots reversed this trend. Researchers concluded that the black workers who suffered the greatest economic blows in the 1970s and beyond lived in cities where rioting was most severe. Riots were also found to depress the value of black-owned property. Rioting hurt black income and black assets.

Yes, white supremacy still exists. That’s a fact. What do we do with that fact? What story do we tell? What story will help my students and my city?

There are lots of statistics that could be used in any number of ways. It is a fact that if a woman was overweight in high school, she is statistically likely to earn less than her slender peers for her entire working life, even if she loses weight. It is a fact – one that many leftists would like to bury – that children who grow up in the same home with their biological mother and biological father do better on a slew of life measures, from incarceration rates to lifetime earnings. It is a fact that poor, white Christians are significantly underrepresented on the campuses of elite universities among both students and faculty. It is a fact that recent immigrants from Africa, who are themselves mostly black, are a “model minority” with above-average incomes and education.

What do we do with these statistics? How do we cherry pick among them to weave a story that justifies a riot or encourages a young person to plug away at a secure but unglamorous job?

Jesse Jackson insists that suffering people must explode. But not all suffering people do explode, and not all those who explode are suffering. Terry suffered and did not explode – Terry excelled. Della Kurzer-Zlotnick acknowledges that she is a rich white girl, and yet she is exploding – and urging others to join her.

I would like to assign reading to these activists, specifically Shelby Steele’s book “White Guilt: How Blacks and Whites Together Destroyed the Promise of the Civil Rights Era.”

Shelby Steele is a black man born in 1946; he knew, and suffered under, Jim Crow. In spite of this, he accomplished much. He lived to see his former white, liberal allies insist that he owed them his “gratitude” because their bleeding hearts, not his hard work, were responsible for his success. In response to their condescension, he says, he felt a murderous rage even more intense than that he had felt under Jim Crow. Steele says that the bleeding heart narrative erased his achievements.

African Americans confronted the Ku Klux Klan. They risked Freedom Rides that ended in beatings and arson. They remained calm as lunch counter patrons poured sugar over their heads. But somehow these same black people are so delicate they need a confused 18-year-old girl to protect them from final examinations in statistics. Kurzer-Zlotnick’s enthusiasm for “social justice” must erase the considerable accomplishment of African American students like Terry, who soldier on in spite of personal hardship, and earn A grades. High achieving blacks become some kind of race traitors or freaks, anomalies who can’t be acknowledged because their existence threatens the story Kurzer-Zlotnick is telling about white liberal guilt and noblesse oblige.

The harm white liberals do is not limited to their need to erase African American achievement. Kurzer-Zlotnick is a powerful audience. The performance she applauds is explosive black rage. She would probably applaud Melvyn’s fencing stolen computers.

In 2006, in the New York Times, Harvard scholar Orlando Patterson, a Jamaican-born black man, wrote that one explanation for young black men’s criminal behavior was the applause antisocial behavior earned black men from white youths. Young black men have the highest self-esteem of all ethnic groups, he says, and that self-esteem is not lowered by what many would assess as failure, for example out-of-wedlock births and poor grades. Not only young whites applaud criminality among black men. Corporate America does so, as well, making millions from hip-hop and ghetto fashions. Young whites, Patterson says, know when to turn off rage chic. The young black males who have been duped into providing this performance may not know when it is time to leave the stage. The whites move on. The blacks are trapped.

I would like to invite Della Kurzer-Zlotnick to walk to work with me through Paterson. I would like her to step over broken glass and past shuttered factories. I would like her, simply, to listen to conversations on buses. My neighbors want their kids to do well, and are proud of them when they do. They work difficult jobs; I see them in nurse’s aide and McDonald’s uniforms, day after day, year after year. Injustices of many kinds are a given; that’s a fact. The key is what story one tells about injustice. It might be exciting for an 18-year-old girl to urge protest on one day when she feels worked up. I would like to invite Kurzer-Zlotnick and others to live in cities like Paterson after the protest is over, to see which approach has long-term, beneficial effects.

In the age of Twitter bloodguilt, no evidence is necessary.

On Monday, Australian police stormed the Lindt Chocolate Cafe in Sydney, where an Islamist terrorist named Man Haron Monis had taken dozens of hostages and held them for 17 hours. Three people were killed, including Monis, and several others were wounded. Monis, an Iranian immigrant, had a long criminal record, including 40 charges for indecent and sexual assault, as well as an outstanding charge for accessory to murder in the killing of his ex-wife. Before his death, Monis requested an ISIS flag, and forced hostages to hold up the so-called Shahada flag, which proclaims in Arabic, “There Is No God But Allah, and Muhammad Is His Messenger.”

In response to this Islamist terror attack on a civilian hub in the center of their city, Australians all over the country took action: They tweeted with the hashtag #illridewithyou. This hashtag came from the mind of one Rachel Jacobs, who witnessed a Muslim woman removing her hijab on the local train after the news of the hostage situation broke. Jacobs tweeted, “I ran after her at the train station. I said ‘put it back on. I’ll walk with u’. She started to cry and hugged me for about a minute — then walked off alone.” Soon, the hashtag had been launched, and quickly trended globally.

Australia’s race discrimination commissioner, Tim Soutphommasane, added, “Let’s not allow fear, hatred and division to triumph.”

Yes, Australia has a race commissioner, but nobody who thinks it’s a bad idea to let Islamist fanatics immigrate, or to keep those same Islamist fanatics in jail after they’re charged in the stabbing of their ex-wives.

Priorities!

Never mind that nobody had said a word to the woman in the hijab — pre-emptive anti-Islamophobia was the first response to an Islamist taking Western hostages in a Western capital.

Across the globe, in the United States, two dueling hashtags debated the relative guilt of American law enforcement. After New York City man Eric Garner resisted arrest, and then died thanks to his pre-existing health conditions after being taken down by police, the hashtag #ICantBreathe went viral.

That hashtag fought for prominence with one dedicated to Michael Brown, the 18-year-old black man who was shot to death after attempting to take a gun from a police officer and charging the police officer: #HandsUpDontShoot. Never mind that the first hashtag was taken wildly out of context — Garner was not choked to death — and that the second was completely fictitious — autopsy showed Brown did not have his hands up when he was shot.

These hashtags aren’t just the work of lazy activists with nothing better to do. They’re signifiers of a suicidal west that believes it bears bloodguilt. No real allegations of Islamophobia or racism are necessary — those can be assumed. We immediately go into preliminary disassociation mode, attempting to demonstrate to our friends and neighbors that while our civilization may be Islamophobic and racist, we are not. After all, we even tweeted using the day’s popular hashtag!

Here’s the problem: Islamists don’t care about hashtags when they can take hostages and earn the sympathetic hashtags of others. Those who resist law enforcement or attack police officers outright are happy to do so when they become causes celebre, no matter what they do wrong.

The West has its evils. There are instances of racism and Islamophobia. Nobody with a brain would deny that. But to slander the West with a sort of communal guilt for an Original Sin, even as the West is under fire from those who would seek to destroy its civilizational foundations, is nothing less than barbaric.

When disregarding evidence is required to perpetuate radical myths.

The August 9, 2014 shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO by Officer Darren Wilson was the origin of a national myth. Myths are sacred stories that serve to explain the world view of a people. They often originate as distorted accounts of real historical events that storytellers repeatedly elaborate on until the primary figure in the account achieves the status of a saint or a god. A culture’s myths provide a sense of identity, shared lifestyle, affirm beliefs and values and are expressed in symbols and rituals. A national myth is a fictional narrative that omits important historical details, or adds details where there is no evidence, but is held as true due to its symbolic meaning for the nation. Michael Brown has become the symbol of racism, police brutality and social injustice. Evidence is irrelevant because myths are symbolic not literal truths.

Disregarding forensic evidence and a grand jury decision is necessary and required to perpetuate the national myth of institutionalized racism, oppression and inequality. The mythology functions as a method to demonize police, inculcate fear, justify violence, promote vengeance and achieve political agendas. The death of Michael Brown has been formatted and packaged by the mainstream media that serve as an outlet for state-sponsored propaganda. Correspondents use selective and biased reporting to propagate the national mythology. However, protest signs, graffiti, hand signs, flags, masks and other symbols in Ferguson reveal a different alternative narrative.

Highly publicized slogans written on protest signs and in graffiti such as RIP Mike Brown, No Justice No Peace, Black Lives Matter and many more supported the narrative of the peaceful protester airing legitimate grievances. Although the media was more than happy to incessantly write negative stories on the so called militarization of the police most neglected to include images of graffiti and signs that read ‘The only good cop is a dead cop’, No more pigs in our community, Kill Cops, Fuck The Police, Die Pig Die and wanted posters with pictures of Officer Darren Wilson that read wanted for racist murder. Wanted Dead or Alive was on the Facebook page of a lead advisor and liaison for the New Black Panther Party.

Vandalism of St. Louis landmarks were reported primarily because the graffiti was inspired by the recently released film the Hunger Games. ‘If we burn, you burn with us’ was spray painted on the 1897 arch known as the Flora Place Gates. Written one day prior to the grand jury decision it was a reference to a quote from the popular film in which the oppressive government is overthrown by heroic rebels. The full quote is “You can torture us and bomb us and burn our districts to the ground, but do you see that? Fire is catching! And if we burn, you burn with us!” Unsurprisingly almost all of the news accounts neglected to report the letters FTP written next to the quote, FTP stands for Fuck the Police. The 150 reportedly peaceful protesters were members of the group Anarcho-Communist Solidarity Alliance who proudly took credit for desecrating the arch. They also defaced a 100 year old statue known as ‘Naked Truth’ by painting FTP on the front. The statue was a memorial to three civil rights heroes.

The quintessential symbol of the Ferguson incident is ‘Hands Up, Don’t Shoot’ which is both a hand sign and a symbol. It has become the protest meme for Ferguson and has been extremely effective in perpetuating the national myth that Michael Brown had his arms up surrendering when he was shot by Officer Wilson. This lie was essential to the legend that transformed Michael Brown from a felon to a folk saint. Hands Up, Don’t Shoot is the emblem of black victimhood and racist cops. Everyone from small children to the elderly, from Rams football players to members of congress have raised their arms making the gesture to demonstrate their solidarity with Michael Brown and the protesters in Ferguson. The gesture has become a rallying cry for this new anti-police movement. It will soon escalate to a sacred ritual practice in the veneration of the new saint Michael Brown.

Similar to the Muslim Brotherhood R4BIA sign the new symbol allegedly originated with a story of martyrs gunned down by authorities. The phrase Hands Up, Don’t Shoot is often written on protest signs and graffiti with two hand prints or simply depicted as two handprints symbolizing the expression. Handprints used to have such lovely connotations such as children’s first finger paintings and signs of ancient civilizations on rock art, now they symbolize the national myth of Mike Brown’s martyrdom.

Michael Brown was familiar with hand signs. Several images from his social media accounts show him wearing red and throwing hand signs that demonstrate allegiance to the Bloods street gang. It was reported that his stepfather Louis Head, who urged protesters to Burn this bitch down on the evening of riots, looting and arson, has a documented affiliation with the notorious Bloods street gang. Although gangbangers don’t flaunt their colors in public as much as they used to, colors and other identifiers are displayed at gang functions and funerals. This may explain why Louis Head and Michael Browns mother Lesley McSpadden both wore red to his funeral. A family of gangbangers does not fit into the national myth of an innocent unarmed black youth being shot down by a white racist police officer.

Flags also frequently appeared during the Ferguson protests, everything from Pan African to Palestinian flags were displayed. Communist flags were also flaunted. It was a regular Anti-American, Anti-capitalist, multicultural, anarchist, victimhood hootenanny. There were American flags but they were routinely desecrated, burned in effigy and frequently flown upside down. Displaying an American flag upside down is an official distress signal that should only be used in instances of extreme danger to life or property. The protesters fly it upside down to signify political distress. On one occasion a group of National Guardsmen who understand the sanctity of the American flag walked into the crowd of protesters to collect the remains of one of the burned flags. According to an article in the Blaze a protester couldn’t comprehend why they cared so much about the flag since it was just a piece of cloth. That symbolizes the real national problem.

Another prevalent symbol in the Ferguson protests were Guy Fawkes masks. These masks which depict a white face with an over-sized smile, red cheeks, a wide moustache upturned at both ends, and a thin vertical pointed beard originally referred to Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, an attempt to blow up the House of Lords in London in 1605. After the stylized version of the mask was used in the 2006 film V for Vendetta it has come to represent anarchists in general and has been visible in anti-government and anti-establishment protests around the world including the Occupy Movement. Often during pro-Palestinian protests a keffiyeh scarf will be wrapped around the mask. The mask is also the symbol for the online hacktivist group Anonymous who were very involved in Ferguson by organizing protests through their online Operation Ferguson. Anonymous was also responsible for several cyber-attacks including hacking into the City of Ferguson’s website shutting down email and phones, and releasing personal information on almost all city employees as vengeance for perceived attacks against protesters. They also hacked into Ku Klux Klan social media accounts and published the names of Klan members because they threatened protesters with the use of lethal force.

Fortunately there are anti-mask laws that are currently enforced in cities like New York. Ironically the origin of anti-mask laws was to prevent the KKK from concealing their identities. Many protesters were also wearing gas masks which serve two functions; to hide their identity and protect against fumes so they can continue to burn and loot without interruption. Gas masks which used to symbolize danger, war and environmental pollution have also been adopted by the Occupy Movement as a symbol of defiance and fortitude. But the real reason is to prevent facial recognition of the cowards who hide behind them.

A national myth is incomplete without sacred shrines and memorials to the martyred saint. A road side shrine with flowers and candles immediately appeared on the spot where the shooting occurred, others soon followed. In keeping with the racial injustice myth there were allegations that a police dog urinated on one memorial and that the police burned down one of the others. The proximity of candles to stuffed animals was not taken into consideration since it did not contribute to the racist cop narrative as much as the alleged desecration of sacred shrines. There have also been several murals painted in homage to Mike Brown. A Trenton, N.J. mural that depicted Brown’s face with the caption “Sagging pants … is not probable cause” was painted over due to concerns that it sent the wrong message about community and police relations and is now a civil rights controversy in that city.

The Ferguson mural has Mike Brown’s name, portrait, the letters RIP, stop the violence and Hands Up. Murals signify street shrines and are the final phase in the canonization of the Folk Saint. Future protesters will make annual pilgrimages to reenact the death of their martyr. Many protesters are already performing rituals referred to as ‘die in’ protests where they lay on the ground with chalk outlines to represent a mock crime scene, posing as individuals shot by police. Rituals, shrines and roadside memorials are the necessary symbolic attributes for the evolution of a folk saint. Like the Mexican Narco Saint Jesus Malverde Mike Brown has become the patron saint of the disenfranchised, racially oppressed and impoverished. The legend of Malverde has many similarities, he is depicted as a generous bandit who stole from the rich to give to the poor and was killed by local police. Michael Brown was transformed from a street thug into a Folk Saint to propagate the national myth of institutionalized racism.

If you are mystified as to why the left strives so hard to make martyrs out of such unlikely role models as Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin, both killed in self-defense, just keep in mind Rahm Emanuel’s credo: “Never let a serious crisis go to waste.”

Within days of the shooting of Brown in August, a “Professor of Science and Education” named Christopher Emdin posted (and then updated in October) a piece for Huffington Post entitled “5 Ways to Teach About Michael Brown and Ferguson in the New School Year.” That article was given new life when a link to it was tweeted by the White House Am-Af Ed just after Thanksgiving. It included the acronym for “in case you missed it” – indicating that the administration thought the article’s content important and valid enough to bring to people’s attention once again.

What is Am-Af Ed? It is the U.S. Department of Education’s Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans, an Obama creation designed to improve educational opportunities for blacks in America. But of course, educational excellence doesn’t mean the same thing to the Alinsky protégés in the White House as it does to most Americans. To the radical left, education is about mobilizing, galvanizing, and deploying armies of social justice warriors.

The Am-Af Ed tweet also included Twitter links to: left-leaning PBS; Teaching for Change, whose motto is “Building Social Justice Starting in the Classroom”; and Rethinking Schools, whose mission is “social justice teaching and education activism… to build broad democratic movements for social and environmental justice.” See a pattern developing there?

Teaching for Change devotes an entire page to “Teaching About Ferguson” to help indoctrinators – I mean, educators – enable students to “be proactive in their own communities” – because apparently it’s less important to give students of color an education than it is to pump them up for community action. The page is replete with items about the history of racism in America, along with positive references to Malcolm X, radical historian Howard Zinn, and the Black Panthers. That would be the same Black Panthers whose recent plot to bomb the Gateway Arch and murder the Ferguson police chief and a St. Louis prosecutor was stalled because the racist thugs ran out of EBT credit. What a standard for academic excellence they set.

Emdin’s Huffington Post piece urges that educators “set the appropriate tone for the school year” by focusing on “events and issues that mean something to students,” especially “youth of color” – by which he means the Michael Brown shooting and what he calls “the recent events in Ferguson.” Those “events” now have expanded beyond Ferguson and include rioting, burning, looting, and murdering, and the harassment of Christmas-caroling children for good measure. It is “imperative that teachers find a way to bring this issue into the classroom,” he writes, otherwise “we are loosing [sic] opportunities to make powerful connections” – because successful community organizing depends on ramping up racial grievances and victimhood. Never mind the powerful connections that a good education would instill in students’ minds.

His 5 steps to not letting this crisis go to waste begin with asking students what they have heard or know about Brown and Ferguson. From there the indoctrinators – oops, there I go again – are to connect the Brown shooting to other, similar controversial black deaths such as those of Trayvon Martin and Eric Garner, to make students “more sociopolitically aware” and to develop “emotional awareness, empathy, and other skills necessary to be informed citizens.” Actually, emotional awareness, whatever that is, and empathy are unnecessary to be an informed citizen; they are, however, necessary in order for youth to be manipulated by progressive race-mongers into believing that feeling trumps facts.

Third, Emdin recommends that students “write letters to all those who are involved in the shooting. This includes politicians, police officers, the families of victims of the violence, and even the deceased.” This apparently helps “students lean [sic] how to write while conveying emotion” – because again, emphasizing emotion is a critical element in community organizing. And while the students devote all this time to writing emotionally-charged letters to everyone involved in a case in which the evidence supports the white officer’s story and demolishes the racially self-serving lies initially spread about the shooting, the rest of their education languishes on the sidelines.

Emdin’s fourth proposal would ordinarily beggar belief, except that by now, nothing that emerges from leftist propagandizing in the American educational system should surprise anyone. He recommends that students create a memorial to Brown on a classroom bulletin board, to “honor Michael Brown and other people who have been victims of police and other violence.” That’s an actual memorial to a man who initiated violence against a cop after strong-arming a local storekeeper in the commission of a crime. That is the man that Emdin and the Department of Education want to hold up as an inspiration to youth of color. This, Emdin claims, helps teachers to “form classroom solidarity” [emphasis added] – because classroom solidarity, and not the development of individual critical thinking skills, is crucial to “rethinking schools.”

Finally, Emdin wants teachers to “carry the theme for the rest of the year” to get the students “beyond meaningless assignments like writing and talking about what they did over the summer… [They] begin to see the classroom as a space where the teaching affects real life, and where assignments have meaning” – because without the transformative goal of racial payback and social justice, readin’, writin’, and ‘rithmetic obviously have no real life applications.

Are such recommendations really ways in which Af-Am Ed intends to produce educational excellence in students of color? For all of Christopher Emdin’s lip service to the “critical thinking skills” he claims his plan promotes, it will produce not academic excellence but more dumbed-down youth animated by racial anger – just the way the Alinsky protégés want it.

The disturbing level of community deceit that led to the false story of Michael Brown's death.

After a grand jury in St. Louis, Missouri, voted against the indictment of Officer Darren Wilson in the killing of 18-year-old black man Michael Brown, President Obama gave a short address to the nation. In it, he said he understood why some would feel disappointed at the verdict — an odd statement, given that all available evidence showed that Brown had robbed a convenience store, attacked Wilson in his vehicle, attempted to grab his gun and charged Wilson before Wilson shot him.

Then Obama dropped a doozy: “We need to recognize that this is not just an issue in Ferguson, this is an issue for America … there are problems and communities of color aren’t just making these problems up.”

Obama did not specify what problems he wanted to discuss. Nor did he explain why Ferguson’s issues were America’s. But the largest lie was the notion that “communities of color” don’t make problems up.

Because in Ferguson, that’s precisely what a community of color did.

In the immediate aftermath of the Brown shooting, grand jury documents show, witness intimidation and lying became the order of the day. Witness after witness told police that local thugs were intimidating those who had seen the events. One witness told police, according to the St. Louis Police Investigative Report, that threats “had been made to the residents of Canfield Green Apartment Complex.” This witness said that “notes had been posted on various apartment buildings threatening people not to talk to the police, and gunshots were still being fired every night.”

The witness wasn’t alone. Other witnesses stated that supposed witnesses were lying to the media about events, that others who had seen the events were “embellishing their stories” in order to convict Wilson.

One witness stated, “You have to understand the mentality of some of these young guys they have nothing to do. When they can latch on the something they embellish it because they want something to do.”

Some 16 witnesses testified that Brown’s hands were up when he was shot, which was factually false according to the autopsy. Another 12 witnesses said that Wilson shot Brown from behind — again, false according to the autopsy. One witness testified that Wilson used both a Taser and a gun — false. Another said that Brown had kneeled before Wilson shot him. When confronted with the fact that the physical evidence made such an account impossible, the witness acknowledged he hadn’t seen the event, and then asked if he could leave the grand jury because he was “uncomfortable.”

In 1964, Kitty Genovese was stabbed to death outside her apartment complex in New York. The entire nation gasped in horror when it learned that supposed witnesses had not called the police.

Fifty years later, the nation completely ignores the fact that an entire community apparently lied, facilitated lying or intimidated witnesses in order to put an innocent man behind bars, because he happened to be white. At least Kitty Genovese’s neighbors didn’t actually murder her. Members of the Ferguson community tried to murder Darren Wilson by putting him on death row. Meanwhile, President Obama and those in the media who played up the original narrative cheered them on.

Rage is not justice.

Rather than denounce the shameful lawlessness demonstrated by many “protesters” demanding “justice” in the wake of the grand jury decision about Officer Darren Wilson, progressives are doubling down by posting rationalizations for the rioting.

Marc Lamont Hill, for example, author of a book on “hip hop pedagogy” who hilariously describes himself as “one of the leading intellectual voices in the country,” tweeted, “The story of ferguson tonight is way bigger than looting or violence. People are angry. People are hurting. They’re killing us with impunity.” This is nonsense. People don’t loot and burn down neighborhood businesses because they are angry and hurting; they do so because trumped-up racial controversies give a criminal element the cover to commit crimes against business owners who had nothing to do with the controversy. Rioters steal big-screen TVs and Nike sneakers because they’re hurting? Ridiculous. They steal them because they are opportunistic thieves.

The hugely popular Gawker site, in an article claiming that “riots are good,” actually argues that “rioting is economically efficient”: “Since state authorities are always and everywhere most concerned about capital and business interests, threatening to impose costs on them via rioting should have a similar impact on police incentives” – by which it means that destructive rioting now supposedly discourages the police from shooting innocent black males later. What it really dissuades economically is businesses starting up or rebuilding in a neighborhood devastated by looters. The costs it imposes are not on the police, but on the victimized local business owners and their employees. But then, celebrity gossip is Gawker’s strong suit, not economics or common sense.

Perhaps the most unintentionally comical defense of rioting is from Mask Magazine, “an online style + living magazine for antagonist youth.” With a title that could have come straight out of the satiric site The Onion, “Hey, Step Back with the Riot Shaming” explains irrationally that “[People of color] are criminals because we are seen as criminals.” [emphasis in original] So, simply being viewed with suspicion causes people to commit crimes? The writer argues (actually, he doesn’t “argue” anything; he just spews a lot of whiny victimhood) that blacks don’t “own” neighborhoods; there are black-owned businesses, he concedes, but in the next breath he claims that “we don’t have shit,” and so apparently it’s all right to loot and burn the black-owned neighborhood businesses that he says blacks don’t have.

Even before the grand jury decision, as early as August right after the shooting of Michael Brown, a site called the New Inquiry put up a piece with the straightforward title, “In Defense of Looting.” It was Marxist, racist agit-prop written by a guy whose bio identifies him as “a member of the punk band Vulture Shit.” Here’s a sample: “Only if you believe that having nice things for free is amoral, if you believe, in short, that the current (white-supremacist, settler-colonialist) regime of property is just, can you believe that looting is amoral in itself.” Here’s another: “Looters are only stealing from the rich owners’ profit margins. Those owners, meanwhile, especially if they own a chain like QuikTrip, steal forty hours every week from thousands of employees who in return get the privilege of not dying for another seven days.” This sounds like easily dismissed, Occupy lunacy, but unfortunately it is representative of the “thinking” of a depressing percentage of young people.

Also in August, the radical Salon.com posted a piece “in defense of black rage,” in which the writer states about rioting, “I refuse to condemn the folks engaged in these acts, because I respect black rage… How dare people preach and condescend to these people and tell them not to loot, not to riot? Yes, those are destructive forms of anger, but frankly I would rather these people take their anger out on property and products rather than on other people.”

But what Salon and other riot apologists refuse to acknowledge is that those products and property don’t exist in a vacuum; they belong to people who had nothing to do with the controversy and yet whose lives are seriously damaged, and in some cases ruined, by the looting and burning of that property.

In addition to these intellectually insupportable attempts to justify rioting, other progressive voices took the opportunity to simply fuel the fire. In apparent response to tweets that the rioters should “go back to Africa,” The Atlantic’s popular Ta-Nahisi Coates, perhaps best-known for his recent article supporting slave reparations, tweeted, “Not how this works. We are here to run you out, not the other way around.” If he’s saying that blacks are here to run whites out of the country, then that’s a rather militantly racist admission.

Another militant, UPenn’s willfully illiterate Associate Professor of Religious Studies and Africana Studies Anthea Butler – whose unhinged response to the George Zimmerman verdict I have previously written about – posted an equally unhinged response this time, an inflammatory article asserting that Michael Brown was a “sacrifice to the god of white supremacy.”

In all fairness, not all the progressive voices attempted to whitewash the rioting or fan the flames. Charles M. Blow of The New York Times, for example, kept a relatively even keel in his Wednesday op-ed:

No one of good character and conscience condones rioting or looting or any destruction of property. Those enterprises aren’t only criminal, they’re fruitless and counterproductive and rob one’s own neighborhood of needed services and facilities and unfairly punish the people who saw fit to follow a dream and an entrepreneurial spirit, and invest in themselves and those communities in the first place.

“But people absolutely have a right to their feelings,” Blow continues, “including anger and frustration.” Of course. But what the riot apologists won’t acknowledge is that violent rage is not justice or justification.

When journalism doesn’t fit the leftist narrative.

Charles C. Johnson is an investigative journalist with a knack for enraging progressives. His recent coverage of issues in Ferguson has made him such a gadfly that trolls in social media convinced Twitter to shut down his account – because, as Johnson put it, “Twitter apparently has a journalism problem.”

Johnson, who has worked with both the late, great Andrew Breitbart and Alan Dershowitz, is the founder and editor-in-chief of Gotnews.com, which seeks “to transform journalism by empowering everyday people, experts, and sources to break news” – very much a Breitbartian aim. A contributor to the Daily Caller and The Blaze, Johnson is also the author of Why Coolidge Matters: Leadership Lessons from America’s Most Underrated President and The Truth About the IRS Scandal. He has written for Wall Street Journal, New York Post, Los Angeles Times, American Spectator, and others.

“It’s no secret that I’ve been targeted by the Ferguson mob for publishing material that they don’t like,” Johnson wrote at Gotnews. For example, he reported that Michael Brown’s stepdad Louis Head, who incited a riot by telling protesters, “Let’s burn this b*tch down!” was a former Blood gangbanger. Johnson is also delving into information provided by Ferguson police that Brown himself had been charged with 2nd degree murder – but that was as a juvenile, so the records have been sealed. Now that Brown is dead, Johnson has sued for the release of those records. That investigation is still ongoing, Johnson told me.

Then, after the grand jury came back without an indictment for Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown, The New York Times published the home address of Wilson and his wife. It was an unconscionable and reckless act, considering the target it put on the Wilsons’ backs, but not an unexpected one from the leftist news media, which have been known to willfully endanger people on the wrong side of the leftist narrative before (e.g., the gun owners whose addresses were mapped out in Journal News).

In response, Charles Johnson called the homes of the writers responsible for the article, Julie Bosman and Campbell Robertson, to ask them about it. Bosman later tweeted that she revised the piece by removing a photo that contained specific information which should not have been made public. But it had been made public and the potential damage was done. Charles Johnson felt that turnabout is fair play, so he posted Bosman’s and Robertson’s home addresses online as well. According to Johnson, Bosman has been phoning the police incessantly complaining of harassment and requesting protection.

Afterward, Johnson was notified by Twitter that his account had been “permanently suspended” without any warning. “I didn’t violate Twitter’s terms of service,” he said. “Twitter just decided that I had. They’ve decided to make up the rules as they go and work with the mob to target journalists.”

It wasn’t the first time his Twitter account had been suspended – he had been shut down twice before: once after he published the name of the Ebola nurse Nina Pham twelve hours before the major networks did, and again after he published the address of Youngor Jallah, the daughter of Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan’s fiancée and the last person to have contact with Duncan. “I have liberal trolls that follow me around and try to get me suspended,” Johnson told me in a phone conversation Friday.

Johnson urged his thousands of followers to contact Twitter and complain about the shutdown of his account – it must have worked, because that “permanent suspension” was lifted after only fifteen hours. During that time, the controversy brought him over a thousand new Twitter followers. Johnson complained that “I’ve been threatened with death threats and had my site hacked but I’ve pressed on. Twitter hasn’t suspended any of these accounts… If my account is suspended, the New York Times journalists’ accounts @campbellnyt & @juliebosman should also be suspended.”

Johnson strongly suspects there was a political motivation to the censorship. He noted that Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey “wants to run for mayor of New York City. He’s a well-known liberal Democrat. Imagine if he got power if this is how Twitter treats journalists.”

Johnson’s Twitter account is back to going strong, and he and Gotnews.com continue to investigate Ferguson-related stories, such as “Meet The Rich White Guy Who Is Running the Black Boycott of Capitalism #Ferguson” and “Overwhelmed #Ferguson Police Welcome Libertarian ‘Oath Keepers’ Militia To Protect Order.” Johnson is also pursuing his goal of taking down the biased mainstream media one journalist at a time. “I will soon be running a professional team of oppo research committed to nothing more than exposing the media frauds. We will go one by one,” he wrote in a recent tweet.

None of this is likely to win Charles C. Johnson any friends within traditional news or political circles. But as Johnson has said in a different context, “I don’t really care what the political consequences of doing the right thing is.”

Indictment decision expected to drop any moment -- and an explosive situation brews.

The FBI is warning that extremist protesters will probably threaten or physically attack police officers or federal agents when a grand jury investigating the death of Michael Brown decides whether to indict the policeman who shot him.

Brown, an 18-year-old black male, was killed in Ferguson, Mo., on Aug. 9 by white police officer Darren Wilson after he beat Wilson and tried to grab his handgun. Brown’s defenders characterize him as a gentle giant even though a few minutes earlier he was captured on video committing a strong-arm robbery at a convenience store, roughing up a much smaller clerk in the process. At autopsy Brown’s height was 6′ 5″ and his weight was 289 lbs. As previously reported, autopsy results were consistent with witness accounts that Brown reached for Wilson’s gun during their fateful altercation.

Grand jurors’ decision about whether Wilson will face criminal charges could be handed down at any time. Some activists are not content to wait. A group called RbG Black Rebels is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who provides the location of Wilson, who has reportedly gone into hiding. Taking a page from Niccolo Machiavelli, the Renaissance era courtier who urged the powerful to kill not only their enemies but also their families of their enemies, the group is also offering $1,000 for information on the whereabouts of Wilson’s close relatives.

Whenever the grand jury acts, loathsome leftists like Al Sharpton will be there to further stir the pot. Mob rule, that is Marxist mobocracy, is the model of governance preferred by Marxist community organizers like Sharpton and Barack Obama. Civil unrest is an opportunity, not a tragedy. The more bodies, the better.

The FBI’s expectation of violence shouldn’t surprise anyone. Radical leftists have long held that terrorizing people leads to change. Violence is part of the Left’s stratagem for sociopolitical change. Just one tool in the box. As one organizer in Ferguson recently said, “We’re not going to get change in this society unless white people are just a little bit afraid.”

The organizer is echoing the words of the late neo-communist activist Richard Cloward. As I explained in my book, Subversion Inc., Cloward and his wife Frances Fox Piven devised a strategy to force change by flooding the nation with welfare recipients.

Cloward wanted the poor to rise up violently against The System. Poor people would benefit more than other groups “from a major upheaval in our society,” he said. The poor only make progress “when the rest of society is afraid of them.”

As tensions rise in Ferguson and other cities across America in anticipation of the grand jury announcement, the FBI reportedly issued an intelligence bulletin to law enforcement agencies all over the country. The FBI is warning that extremist protesters “will likely” threaten and possibly attack police officers or federal agents.

Electrical or water treatment facilities could be targeted and “hacktivists” like the group Anonymous could carry out cyber-attacks against authorities, ABC News reports.

“The announcement of the grand jury’s decision … will likely be exploited by some individuals to justify threats and attacks against law enforcement and critical infrastructure,” the FBI stated in the recent memo. “This also poses a threat to those civilians engaged in lawful or otherwise constitutionally protected activities.”

The FBI said it believes “those infiltrating and exploiting otherwise legitimate public demonstrations with the intent to incite and engage in violence could be armed with bladed weapons or firearms, equipped with tactical gear/gas masks, or bulletproof vests to mitigate law enforcement measures.”

Of course the use of the verb infiltrating is curious. These people won’t be hijacking the protests, as the FBI implies. They already run the show.

The union goons, Afrocentrist militants, open-borders advocates, leftover ACORN activists, and Occupy Wall Street thugs are all allies of President Obama and they are already on the ground in Ferguson, as they have been for months. Their violent so-called protests which involve Molotov cocktails and urine are no more legitimate in our constitutional republic than assassinations, thuggery, and bribes.

These terrorists want roughly the same things that Obama wants. It is an open question whether the terrorists in question are pro-Obama or perhaps to the political left of Obama, which is possible but hard to conceptualize given Obama’s radicalism.

Meanwhile, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon (D) declared a statewide state of emergency yesterday and activated his state’s National Guard in anticipation of civil disorder following the grand jury’s decision in the Darren Wilson case. “Regardless of the outcomes of the federal and state criminal investigations, there is the possibility of expanded unrest,” Nixon states in Executive Order 14-14.

While some may applaud Nixon for being proactive, it is important to recall that he is responsible, at least in part, for any unrest that follows because he has engaged in race-baiting and has pandered to the mob that is now screaming for Wilson’s blood.

And let there be no doubt which side the Obama administration is on: rampant chaos, civil unrest, and bloodshed. The Obama administration’s disingenuous disavowals of violence don’t persuade anyone: Obama and his radical colleagues want Ferguson to burn for political reasons. The White House doesn’t give a fig about the outside agitators who have been streaming in to the St. Louis area from Chicagoland and beyond. They are the president’s comrades-in-arms.

If Obama weren’t in the Oval Office, he himself would be in the streets of Ferguson right now doing everything in his power to polarize and demonize Darren Wilson and maximize criminal anarchy.

Remember that Obama’s Attorney General, Eric Holder, sent scores of FBI agents to desperately scour Ferguson for non-existent proof of racial animus by local police. He also sent in the Saul Alinsky Division of the DoJ, the Community Relations Service (CRS), to help disturb the peace. Under Holder, CRS mediators are community organizers paid by taxpayers to facilitate civil unrest.

As Alinsky wrote in Rules for Radicals, a community organizer must stir up disorder. The organizer’s first job is “community disorganization” by manufacturing crises in order to inflame the community. The organizer must “create the issues or problems,” which is exactly what the Obama administration and allies like Al Sharpton have done in Ferguson in the complete absence of evidence that Michael Brown suffered an injustice at the hands of local police.

A community organizer must “rub raw the resentments of the people of the community,” Alinsky wrote, and “fan the latent hostilities of many of the people to the point of overt expression.” Overt expression, of course, is leftist-speak for politically motivated violence.

The organizer must “agitate to the point of conflict” because without friction and controversy “people are not concerned enough to act,” Alinsky wrote. Having harangued the community out of its feelings of complacency, the organizer then directs its rage at specific targets and scapegoats, providing “a channel into which the people can angrily pour their frustrations.”

Even now Holder is trying to ramp up tensions in the black community. Nothing else can explain his outrageous, downright kooky comparison of would-be cop killer Michael Brown to lynching victim Emmett Till.

Till was brutally tortured and murdered on Aug. 24, 1955 in Money, Miss. He reportedly flirted with a white woman in a grocery store. Four days later two white men abducted him, beat him, gouged out an eye, shot him in the head, and dumped his weighted-down body in a river. In a shameful miscarriage of justice, an all-white jury acquitted Till’s killers who later admitted their guilt to Look magazine, knowing that the double jeopardy rule precluded a second prosecution for their crimes.

Although Holder didn’t mention Brown or Ferguson in his prepared remarks yesterday at a tree planting ceremony commemorating Emmett Till, he worked Ferguson in during remarks to MSNBC, echoing his infamous accusation that America is “a nation of cowards” on the topic of race.

“The struggle goes on and it’s not only Ferguson,” Holder told the barely watched cable TV network. He continued:

There are other communities around our country where we are dealing with relationships that are not what they should be, be they officials in their communities that they are supposed to serve. Or really on a more personal level there is an enduring legacy that Emmett Till has left with us that we have to still confront as a nation.

Holder won’t admit that Brown was a vicious 18-year-old thug because his ugly ideology will not allow it. Brown was a victimizer and Till was a victim. Just about the only thing Till and Brown have in common is that they are both dead.

Holder’s bizarre analogy brings into clearer focus why the Department of Justice invited a deranged 27-year-old Islamist named Bassem Masri to share his thoughts on police reform in light of events in Ferguson.

Masri calls police “pigs,” supports the terrorist group Hamas, and said he hoped the recently deceased comedian Joan Rivers would “burn in hell” for siding with Israel in its ongoing conflict with the Palestinians.

During protests in Ferguson, Masri aggressively needled police officers. After VonDerrit Myers, another black teenage male, was shot Oct. 8 by a local cop, Masri baited officers. “Get the f*** out of here with your coward ass boys! Your life is in danger, homie, you gotta go,” he said. “I’m praying for your death, and your death and your death,” Masri told individual officers.

In another cop-baiting episode, Masri compared police to the murderous Islamic State (ISIS). “I see ISIS in front of me,” he said. “Hamas? They’re real men. You go stand with Hamas and see if you’re going to stand a day.”

Masri was in the news when he shut down a live CNN broadcast in Ferguson on Oct. 20. “You’re all run by Zionists,” Masri shouted at a CNN correspondent. “They’re all run by Israel, so they’ve all got to go,” he added.

Masri is Eric Holder’s idea of a model citizen. He’s the kind of person Obama and friends want to be a vital part of the democratic process — whether he votes or not.

Ferguson, St. Louis, and other cities across the country could soon be at the mercy of an army of unbalanced extremists like Bassem Masri. That’s exactly what the Obama administration wants to happen.

Why supporters of Palestinian terrorists have made common cause with the rioters in MO.

The same violent protesters in Ferguson, Missouri demonstrating against the killing of Michael Brown have also been taking it to the streets in Detroit and elsewhere to press for the release of a Palestinian terrorist who killed two Israelis.

Activists are blackmailing the grand jury that is now hearing evidence against Wilson. If the grand jurors refuse to indict Wilson, radical activists are promising even more mayhem. The message is unmistakable: indict the cop, and there will be peace; don’t, and Ferguson will burn.

Brown is the young, black, 6’4″, 292-pound man who was killed by white police officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9. When media outlets describe Brown they usually omit the fact that he viciously assaulted Wilson and tried to seize his handgun, presumably in an effort to do the officer harm. Journalists also tend to downplay the fact that minutes before Brown attacked Wilson he robbed a convenience store.

The Palestinian terrorist is Rasmea (also spelled Rasmieh) Odeh who was convicted by a Detroit jury on Monday of immigration fraud. Prosecutors accused Odeh of killing Israelis in the Sixties and then lying about it in U.S. immigration papers.

Odeh was previously convicted in Israel “for her role in the 1969 bombings of a supermarket and the British Consulate in Jerusalem, which were carried out on behalf of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a designated terrorist organization,” according to the Investigative Project on Terrorism. Prosecutors said one of the supermarket bombs killed two people and injured others. Odeh received a sentence of life imprisonment but was released after 10 years as part of a prisoner swap.

Odeh used to live in Michigan and resided in Chicago until her bail was revoked Monday. In Chicago she was employed as associate director of the Arab American Action Network (AAAN), which was founded by terrorist promoter Rashid Khalidi and his wife, Mona. Khalidi, a Columbia University professor and former director of the PLO’s press agency, is a well-known friend of Barack Obama. AAAN, which is hostile to Israel, claims “to challenge government policies that violate the civil, political and human rights of the Arab American and Arab immigrant community.”

The seditious collaboration in Ferguson between anti-American left-wingers, some of whom are well-funded, and anti-American Islamofascists isn’t all that unusual in U.S. politics but it receives scant attention from the media.

Leftist and Islamist groups routinely work together in the U.S. Not many on the activist Left are wary of their comrades’ working relationship with Muslim totalitarians who would joyfully slit their atheist, infidel throats upon coming to power. One such leftist, Meredith Tax, acknowledged in a book last year that aligning with Islamic fundamentalists was a terrible idea.

But Tax is a very rare bird. Most leftists see America’s enemies as their natural allies, so when an opportunity for a working partnership arises they seize it with gusto. As they see things, whatever it takes to advance so-called social justice is justified.

As a Sixties radical once wrote, “The issue is never the issue. The issue is always the revolution.”

In other words, whatever the cause, whether inner city blacks or illegal aliens or women, it is merely a pretext for action. It is an opportunity to advance the real cause which is the accumulation of the power needed to foment and effectuate revolutionary change.

Rana Baker, a writer at Electronic Intifada, explained the Marxist, identity politics-driven rationale for this cooperation between American leftists and Islamic supremacists in Ferguson. In an article filled with politically correct drivel she wrote:

Unsurprisingly, many of the police deployed to crush unarmed protesters demanding justice for the brutal murder of eighteen-year-old black American Mike Brown are Israel-trained. Despotic tactics Palestinians largely associate with Israel’s colonial military, such as teargassing protesters and harassing journalists, have all been implemented in Ferguson. Although Ferguson and Palestine are two different contexts, both places and their people are fighting against white supremacist regimes of oppression which continue to view them as “disposable others” and act accordingly … it is the moral responsibility of every Palestinian to support and foster relations with the struggles of the oppressed all over the world.

No one who follows the Left should be shocked to learn that Ferguson has been dominated by rent-a-mobs in recent weeks, complete with leftist astroturfers determined to stir the pot.

Groups endorsing Ferguson October, last month’s festival of leftist looting and self-righteous posturing in the beleaguered St. Louis suburb, included a hodgepodge of activist organizations –many of them Saul Alinsky-inspired pressure groups — that have little or nothing to do with Ferguson, Michael Brown, or Darren Wilson. The only thing these labor movement and Occupy Wall Street activists had in common was that they were left-wing.

Among them were: Action for the Common Good; Advancement Project; Alliance for a Just Society; Amnesty International; CAAAV: Organizing Asian Communities (Committee Against Anti-Asian Violence); ColorOfChange.org; Catholic Worker; Chinese Progressive Association; Coalition of Black Trade Unionists; Code Pink; Divestment Student Network; Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation; Fighting Against Natural Gas (FANG); Gamaliel Foundation; International Socialist Organization (ISO); Juvenile Urban Multicultural Program (at Syracuse University); Korean American Resource & Cultural Center; LeftRoots; Million Hoodies Movement for Justice; National Domestic Workers Alliance; National Network for Arab American Communities; National Organization for Women (NOW); New Black Panther Party; New Economy Coalition; PICO National Network; Progressive Democrats of America; Sierra Student Coalition (a project of the Sierra Club); St. Louis Palestine Solidarity Committee; Universal African Peoples Organization; United for Peace and Justice; US Action; US Palestinian Community Network; Veterans for Peace; and Working Families Party.

Many of these groups have taken money from radical billionaire George Soros. Those on his payroll include Advancement Project, Gamaliel Foundation, NOW, and US Action.

Lee Cary has also painstakingly detailed at American Thinker the 45 organizations that are now placing demands on police agencies in the St. Louis area. The groups, which are part of the Don’t Shoot Coalition, are attempting to define the rules of engagement between law enforcement and activists to make it easier for radicals to set Ferguson on fire in the event Wilson is not indicted.

Remnants of the ACORN activist empire are involved in organizing unrest in Ferguson.

Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment (MORE), a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, is the rebranded Missouri branch of the former Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) which filed for bankruptcy in late 2010. That ACORN state chapter reconstituted itself in December 2009 as MORE under orders from ACORN’s national headquarters. President Obama used to work for ACORN and he represented it in court as a lawyer.

MORE has been active in the protests and in efforts to free jailed demonstrators so they can continue vandalizing businesses, intimidating perceived adversaries, setting fires, throwing projectiles and urine at cops, and engaging in the Left’s usual modes of so-called nonviolent protest. MORE believes that protesters should be given a blank check to inflict whatever harm they wish on the community in pursuit of social justice.

MORE is also a recipient of taxpayer funding — and to no one’s surprise — it is not a good steward of those dollars. MORE received $21,000 for its “foreclosure prevention” efforts but “did not fully comply” with the rules, according to the St. Louis city comptroller’s “fiscal monitoring review” released a few days before Brown was shot.

MORE’s executive director is longtime ACORN organizer Jeff Ordower. Ordower, an outspoken vote fraud apologist, previously ran Missouri ACORN and oversaw ACORN’s Midwest operations. He was also an SEIU organizer in Texas.

The Working Families Party, founded in New York State in the 1990s by ACORN members, is also involved in Ferguson. It endorsed Ferguson October but the extent of its on-the-ground involvement was unclear at time of writing.

All these superficially distinct groups have come together in Ferguson to pay homage to violent criminals –a murderer of Israelis and a would-be murderer of a police officer– for two reasons.

First, because Rasmea Odeh and Michael Brown are model citizens, according to the leftist worldview. Radical activists see them and their disruptive, antisocial behavior as representing the best that humanity has to offer.

Second, because banding together and pooling their power to disrupt society helps to create strife and chaos. The subsequent crises can be leveraged to promote the kinds of change that leftists would like to see.

As the old radical said, the issue is never the issue. The issue is always the revolution.

While the lynch mob promises death and destruction if an indictment isn't delivered.

It would appear that unnamed Obama administration officials, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, and their media cheerleaders have coordinated a narrative with regard to the Ferguson, MO Police Department. According to CNN, “government officials familiar with the ongoing discussions between local, state and federal officials” are saying Police Chief Thomas Jackson is expected to step down “as part of the effort by city officials to reform the Police Department.” The proverbial fly in the ointment? Jackson and Mayor James Knowles deny any such plan exists.

“Nobody in my chain of command has asked me to resign, nor have I been terminated,” said Jackson in a phone call with the news network. Knowles affirmed that statement and dismissed the notion that pressure was brought to bear by the feds. “People have been saying that for months, I mean for him to step down, Knowles explained. “But we’ve stood by him this entire time. So there is no change on that.”

Apparently Eric Holder has a different agenda. “I think it’s pretty clear that the need for wholesale change in that department is appropriate,” he said Wednesday, during an appearance at the Washington Ideas Forum. “Exactly what the form of that change will be, I think, we’ll wait until we complete our inquiry.”

Holder reiterated his exasperation with the leaks that have been emerging from the various investigations in the case that garnered national attention — as well as ongoing civil demonstrations often deteriorating in lawless mayhem — following the shooting of teenager Michael Brown by Officer Darren Wilson last August. The AG declared that the attempt to shape public opinion while the investigation remained ongoing was inappropriate. “I’ve said I’m exasperated. That’s a nice way of saying ‘I’m mad,’ because that’s just not how things should be done,” he declared. “Whoever the sources of the leaks are needs to shut up.”

The irony is rich. Holder is calling for wholesale changes in the police department prior to the ultimate determination of Wilson’s guilt or innocence, yet somehow the leader of perhaps the most politicized Justice Department in modern history doesn’t see that statement as a blatant attempt to shape public opinion.

Furthermore, MSNBC has reported at least one of those leaks comes courtesy of “a source within the Obama administration,” the New York Times cited “government officials” as their source in detailing leaks about Wilson’s testimony, and Daily Caller reporter Chuck Ross reveals that Mayor Knowles told the Caller that he was told by CNN “that the DOJ was the source of their information.”

Could it be that Eric Holder himself “needs to shut up”? Or is he in the process of fashioning yet another capitulation to the mob that has been so threatening that five felony cases have been dropped because Wilson, characterized as an “indispensable witness” in all of them, can’t appear due to threats on his life?

It is a mob that has regularly chanted, “Who do we want? Darren Wilson! How do we want him? Dead!” It is a mob that has rioted on several occasions, looted and burned down businesses, shot at police and news helicopters, and threatened the lives and property of many innocents. It has been egged on by professional race-baiters and radical leftist organizations, including the Tauheed Youth Organization, the pro-Hamas Organization for Black Struggle, the Moorish Science Temple, the New Black Panther Party (NBPP) and racial arsonist Al Sharpton. The NBPP and Sharpton both presented a list of demands that must be met, with the NBPP insisting that Wilson, who had yet to be identified at that point, much less charged, “be fired and charged with murder,” and that the Ferguson Police Department must be re-made to “reflect the racial demography of the community.”

Diversifying a police department is a legitimate desire, but easier said than done. “We hire everyone that we can get,” Knowles insisted. “There’s also the problem that a lot of young African American people don’t want to go into law enforcement.”

Not just in Ferguson. The authors of the Law Enforcement Recruitment Toolkit, published by the U.S. Department of Justice, spoke to the reality of peer pressure. “Some nonwhites may view policing as a white-dominated and racist profession and may reject the idea of working for the police because they fear being perceived by their peers as selling out,” they noted. Phillip Atiba Goff, co-founder and president of The Center for Policing Equity at the University of California, Los Angeles echoes that assertion. “If you were taught from the time that you could speak, from the time that you could understand speech, that police are to be feared and that they’re part of an occupying force that is there to circumvent the democratic processes and to strip you of your rights, then it’s very difficult for that department to come into your neighborhood and tell you that they respect you and that you should join their team,” he said, adding that diversity is “no pancea.” Malcolm D. Holmes and Brad W. Smith, co-authors of “Race and Police Brutality: Roots of an Urban Dilemma,” further explained that diversifying police forces “have not curbed police violence in communities of color” or removed the unique challenges of policing deprived neighborhoods.

Regardless, the mob may get at least one of their wishes fulfilled. In addition to the purported ouster of Chief Jackson, MSNBC is reporting that Officer Wilson is also expected to be “eased out” of his job. Both moves are ostensibly a prelude to a “full-scale take over of the Ferguson force by the St. Louis County police.” The announcement of these steps could occur as early as next week, according to CNN.

CNN legal analyst Mark O’Mara was quick to jump on the bandwagon. “The animosity that existed in Ferguson were way before Mike Brown’s shooting, justified or not. So, unfortunately, the leadership in the Police Department has to change,” he insisted. “And if [Jackson's] sort of a sacrificial lamb to get this started, it’s going to have to be. Ferguson’s going to have to move forward. And it doesn’t seem they can move forward with this police chief in place.”

O’Mara was likely taking his cue from Holder, who voiced a similar dissatisfaction last month when he announced the Justice Department was conducting an investigation of the force. “People consistently expressed concerns stemming from specific alleged incidents, from general policing practices and from the lack of diversity on the Ferguson police force,” Holder told reporters at the time. “These anecdotal accounts underscore the history of mistrust of law enforcement in Ferguson that has received a good deal of attention.”

That would be predominantly media-driven attention, and their initial effort to frame the narrative in this case was reprehensible. Their description of Michael Brown as a college-bound “gentle giant” was shattered by a video-tape depicting him committing a strong-arm robbery against a far smaller store clerk. Also debunked were the initial reports that Brown was shot in the back. That allegation was made by witnesses Dorian Johnson, Piaget Crenshaw and and Tiffany Mitchell. Johnson was Brown’s partner in crime, and Crenshaw changed her story following the family autopsy conducted by Dr. Michael Baden.

Yet the trio’s other allegation, that Brown had his hands up when he was shot— unsupported by the official autopsy—was far more problematic. While several other witnesses contradicted that assessment, the “hands up” narrative went national, and remains largely embedded among a portion of black America and their white, leftist enablers who are either uninterested in the truth, or working feverishly to gain as much political mileage as they can from the incident, prior to the grand jury’s ultimate determination.

CNN analyst Michael Smerconish believes that the attempt to oust Jackson is another orchestrated sop to the mob that may indicate the grand jury is not going to indict Wilson. “To me this is all calibrated and intended to take the temperature down of the community,” he said. “I’m absolutely convinced we’re headed for no indictment in this case.”

The evidence leaked so far points in that direction. The official autopsy backs Wilson’s version of the events, as do seven or eight black American witnesses — who won’t speak publicly because they fear for their own safety. And the infamous hacker group Anonymous cites yet another “government source” indicating that Wilson will not be indicted, adding that the grand jury’s announcement to that effect, originally slated for January 7, may now be made in as little as 10 days.

In the meantime, Americans ought to ponder the “chicken or the egg” order of events if and when such a scenario unfolds. As a simple Google search reveals, much of the media consider it a virtual given that Ferguson, and perhaps several other communities as well, will erupt in unrestrained violence if Darren Wilson is acquitted. The LA Times offers a quote from Kevin Seltzer, who lives at an apartment complex near where Brown was shot. “They’re not going to be looting next time,” he warns. “They’re going to burn the city down.” CNN gots in on the act. “If there is not an indictment, excuse my French, all hell is going to break loose,” says an unnamed protester. “Ferguson and St. Louis will be in a state of emergency if Wilson is not indicted,” grad student Jaleah Williams told the Huffington Post. “If he’s not indicted, Ferguson will never be same. At the end of the day, the amount of times Wilson shot Mike Brown was excessive. So, if no charges come down, that’s saying it’s okay for police to kill our kids,” he added.

The Guardian reports that protesters are “warning police that they are prepared to die on the streets for their cause,” with Millennial Activists United co-founder Ashley Yates insisting that if Wilson is not indicted “people have every right to go out and express their rage in a manner that is equal to what we have suffered.” Hands Up United activist Tef Poe was far more direct. “Don’t come to Ferguson if you aren’t ready to die,” he warned. “Stay at home, as it could happen.”

If it does happen, the blood will be on the hands of the aforementioned race-baiters and their media enablers, as well as Attorney General Eric Holder, whose role in this tragedy cannot be understated. It was Holder who went to Ferguson last August and, absent any evidence of what actually occurred, sympathized with the residents’ “mistrust” of police because he is not only the attorney general, but a “black man” — one who proceeded to tell the crowd about his own experience of being stopped on the New Jersey Turnpike and accused of speeding. “I remember how humiliating that was and how angry I was and the impact it had on me,” Holder said — without ever mentioning whether or not he had in fact been speeding. And now, even with the facts as yet unannounced, he has essentially indicted an entire Ferguson Police Department that requires “wholesale change.”

It is America itself that requires wholesale change. The nation has reached the point where the politics of division embraced by this administration and its enablers in the Democratic party, egged on by their corrupt cheerleaders in the media, must be forcefully rejected. The race card is maxed out, and only those who profit from the misery of others wish to see the divisiveness continue.

Ben Shapiro exposes the truth behind the media-created myth of Gentle Giant Michael Brown, the unarmed teen gunned down in cold blood by a white racist cop for the crime of walking while black. Except that every part of that story is a lie. See the video and transcript below:

TRANSCRIPT:

Everything you know about Michael Brown is a lie. The media, the politicians, the race-baiters – they all told you the story of the innocent young, unarmed black teen, the Gentle Giant, murdered in cold blood by a vicious white cop representing the evil establishment.

Al Sharpton, who is always first on the scene when a black person is killed by a white – or, in the case of St. Trayvon of the Blessed Hoodie, a white Hispanic – described Brown as a “gentle giant,” too. Over at Daily Kos, a writer described St. Michael as a “big guy who his family called their ‘Gentle Giant’…built to be a high school football player – direct from central casting – but Mike was too timid for the sport. According to friends and family, he had never been in a fight in his life.” CNN, The Daily Mail – all of them called him a “gentle giant.”

And the man who deprived the world of this “gentle giant” was, of course, Officer Darren Wilson.

Originally, we were told that Wilson shot Brown from behind, after pulling over the “gentle giant” for walking in the middle of the street – a situation President Obama would later term “walking while black.” Supposedly, Wilson pulled the 6’5”, 289-lb. Brown through his driver’s side window, but Brown escaped and ran away from this mad emissary of police brutality. Wilson then allegedly shot the fleeing Brown from behind, at which point Brown turned around, raised his hands in the universal sign of surrender, and perished in a hail of bullets.

Here’s the reality. All of this was a lie.

The first crack in the myth of St. Michael, the Gentle Giant, came in the form of a security tape, taken just minutes before the fatal confrontation with Officer Wilson.

According to police reports, the Gentle Giant, who had never been in a fight and was too timid to play football, grabbed a small attendant and slammed him into a display case. He also stole a box of Swisher Sweets, which are cheap cigars.

The next crack in the St. Michael story, The New York Times reported that Michael Brown “was no angel.” The report explained that he “dabbled in drugs and alcohol” – which, presumably, is why he stole a cheap box of Swisher Sweets from that convenience store, since Swisher Sweets are routinely used to smoke pot. Indeed, Brown’s system was chock full of THC during the incident with Officer Wilson, the autopsy showed.

The New York Times report also explained that Brown “had taken to rapping in recent months, producing lyrics that were by turns contemplative and vulgar.”

Here’s a sampling of St. Michael’s music, culled by Gateway Pundit:

My favorite part is when that body hits the ground.

I soak em up like I’m wringing out a sponge

Talking down make me shoot off your whole tongue

The words of the blessed saint.

The media and politicians cried bloody murder when this information began to tarnish the candle-lit altar they’d built for St. Michael – just because St. Michael had strong-arm robbed a convenience store, done drugs, and cut some vile rap videos didn’t mean he deserved to be shot!

Which, of course, was true. But the rest of the mythical tale of the martyrdom of St. Michael began falling apart, as well.

Officer Wilson’s side of the story began to come out, in dribs and drabs: after pulling Brown over, Wilson said, Wilson tried to get out of his car – Brown shut the door on him, then pushed himself through the driver’s side window. He went for Wilson’s weapon, whereupon Wilson fired the gun in the vehicle. Brown ran. Wilson chased him. Brown then turned around and ran toward Wilson, whereupon Wilson shot him several times.

According to the Washington Post, “more than a half-dozen unnamed black witnesses have provided testimony…that supports Wilson’s account of the events….blood spatter analysis, shell casings and ballistics tests – also support Wilson’s account of the shooting, the Post sources said.”

Now, a new autopsy report revealed by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch – the same newspaper that originally termed Brown a “Gentle Giant” – showed that Brown’s body had a “graze wound” on his thumb; the wound contained matter “consistent with products that are discharged from the barrel of a firearm.” That can only happen at close range – so close, in fact, that there was no stippling – a patterning of gunpowder that will not appear within an inch of the gun barrel. In other words, as San Francisco medical examiner Dr. Judy Melinek said, “this guy is reaching for the gun.”

The autopsy backs up the altercation at the car as well – Brown’s skin was found on the exterior of the vehicle. CNN reports that blood from Michael Brown was found on Wilson’s uniform, police car, and gun.

The autopsy even gives shows that Brown was shot with his hands up. According to the autopsy report, the gunshot wound to St. Michael’s “upper dorsal right arm” demonstrated that the direction of the shot was “slightly upward, backward and leftward.” That means, according to Melinek, the shot “traveled from the back of the arm to the inner arm, which means Brown’s palms could not have been facing Wilson.”

The rage continues, of course, because facts don’t matter when myths have already taken root. Benjamin Crump, the Brown family lawyer – he was also the Martin family attorney – said that “family and supporters will not be persuaded by the autopsy report or eyewitness statements,” according to the Washington Post. And, of course, local politicians have pledged that the evidence won’t change anything.

Meanwhile, the disciples of Michael Brown pay tribute to his Gentle Giantness by fighting over how to capitalize on his supposed martyrdom. Michael Brown’s mother, Lesley McSpadden, reportedly got into a fight with Brown’s grandmother and cousin when she found them selling Michael Brown merchandise. The altercation ended, apparently, with another unnamed person hitting Brown’s cousin in the face with a pipe or pole, resulting in his hospitalization. The suspect then stole a box from the scene containing some $1,400.

But never mind – the legacy of Michael Brown, Gentle Giant, will go on. Another martyr has joined the Racial Testament. Another fake black mark on white racist police forces everywhere. And the left’s aggressive construction of the myth of St. Michael the Gentle Giant ensures that more young black men will see police as the enemy, that confrontations will escalate, and that the left will have many more future opportunities to add to their perverse canon.

If Darren Wilson isn't indicted, radical activists promise mayhem.

Police in Ferguson, Mo. are preparing for the mayhem and deadly violence that radical activists are promising if a grand jury declines to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting of Michael Brown two months ago.

A grand jury is expected to determine next month if Wilson, a decorated white policeman, will face criminal charges for killing Brown, an 18-year-old black man who reportedly attacked him minutes after robbing a convenience store. The St. Louis suburb has been plagued by violent demonstrations since the Aug. 9 shooting. Hundreds of people, including individuals police call “outside agitators,” have been arrested in nearly continuous protests since Brown’s death.

The politically correct lie that a helpless 6’4″ 292-lbs. Brown was shot in cold blood, arms raised while attempting to surrender to white Wilson, instead of the less convenient truth that Brown was beating the cop while reaching for his gun, won’t die. In the minutes before the altercation with Wilson, Brown was captured on video bullying a much smaller East Indian shopkeeper during a robbery, an act that some might consider a hate crime.

Local agitators connected to the former Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) are knee-deep in the unrest in Ferguson. Missourians Organizing for Reform & Empowerment (MORE) has been active in the protests and in efforts to free jailed demonstrators so they can continue vandalizing businesses, intimidating perceived adversaries, setting fires, throwing projectiles and urine at cops, and engaging in the Left’s usual modes of so-called nonviolent protest.

The MORE front group’s executive director is longtime ACORN organizer Jeff Ordower. Ordower, a vote fraud apologist, previously ran Missouri ACORN. Under orders from ACORN’s national headquarters the Missouri chapter incorporated itself separately as MORE in December 2009.

State authorities are holding two to three meetings a week to draft plans to deal with riots should they materialize.

“We know outside groups visited us in August,” St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said. “We are expecting that different people will come in from outside the St. Louis area.”

Ferguson Mayor James Knowles said he is afraid that “the unrest is going to be far beyond the city of Ferguson” if Wilson is not indicted.

Activists say if Wilson is cleared by the grand jury, rioting will follow.

Ferguson protest leader Tef Poe told Reuters to expect “carnage” if an indictment is not handed down. “There is a lot of explosive energy.”

“If they can’t serve justice in this, the people have every right to go out and express their rage in a manner that is equal to what we have suffered,” said Ashley Yates, who co-founded Millennial Activists United. Yates, who spoke at a New York rally alongside activists from Hands Up United and the Organization for Black Struggle, was arrested last week during a demonstration in Ferguson. The rally took place in the same ballroom where Malcolm X was murdered in a hail of gunfire in 1965.

“We’re going to take our anger out on the people who have failed us, and if they are prepared to deal with that, then let them have at it,” Yates said.

Poe said that although Americans have often expected “casual revolution,” Ferguson may be “the moment when we can’t do that.”

Poe urged his fellow activists to die for the cause, browbeating what he termed the “intellectual set” who contemplate race relations but “didn’t show up and didn’t want to get shot when the teargas came out.”

“Don’t come to Ferguson if you aren’t ready to die,” Yates said. “Stay at home, as it could happen.”

“I can say this with 100 percent certainty: all three of us have had moments in the street where we realized we could die right there,” Yates said.

Answering claims that activists had encouraged rioting, Poe said, “No, you incited a riot by leaving Mike Brown’s body on the street for four and a half hours.”

More protests are expected in Ferguson over this weekend.

Activists are also demanding that Bob McCulloch, the prosecuting attorney in the case, recuse himself. They claim he is biased in favor of the police. They also want the mayor and police chief Tom Jackson to resign for supposedly mishandling the case.

Although they won’t admit it publicly, Obama administration officials are praying for the worst.

Attorney General Eric Holder has been deliberately fanning the flames of racial discontent in Ferguson. It’s good for revving up the Democrats’ political base in time for the November elections that could hand control of the U.S. Senate to Republicans.

Despite the continuing absence of any evidence whatsoever that race was a factor in the shooting of Brown, the Department of Justice has been conducting a race-baiting witch hunt aimed at the entire police force in Ferguson. It is nothing more than a taxpayer-funded Democratic Party voter registration drive disguised as a civil rights investigation. Such hoaxes are the stock in trade of the radical community organizers who run the Obama White House.

To add an aura of legitimacy to the witch hunt, the U.S. Conference of Mayors held a symposium on the events in Ferguson at Bill Clinton’s presidential library in Little Rock, Ark.

Attorney General Holder wasn’t shy about discussing the Obama administration’s rather frightening plans to use the Ferguson crisis as a pretext for bringing local police forces under greater federal control.

“The events in Ferguson reminded us that we cannot and must not allow tensions, which are present in so many neighborhoods across America, to go unresolved,” said Holder who announced his intention to resign his post two weeks ago.

Holder told participants at the conference Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Justice’s broad review of police training, techniques, and tactics ought to be expanded “to provide strong, national direction on a scale not seen since President Lyndon Johnson’s Commission on Law Enforcement nearly half a century ago.”

The Obama administration never, ever lets a crisis go to waste.

Turning a lynch mob into a taxpayer-funded Democratic voter registration drive.

Despite the continuing absence of any evidence whatsoever that race was a factor in the police shooting of Michael Brown, the Department of Justice will be conducting a race-baiting witch-hunt aimed at the entire police force in Ferguson, Mo., Attorney General Eric Holder announced yesterday.

The new investigation is nothing more than a taxpayer-funded Democratic Party voter registration drive disguised as a civil rights investigation. Such hoaxes are the stock in trade of the radical community organizers who run the Obama White House. Statistics, by the way, suggest Ferguson is far from the hotbed of crime the media has portrayed it as. Ferguson reportedly has an average level of crime.

“When I visited Ferguson two weeks ago, I promised that the U.S. Department of Justice would continue to stand with the people there long after the national headlines had faded,” Holder said, according to the text of prepared remarks. Egged on by violent left-wing mobs and racial tension profiteers like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson Sr., federal officials were already conducting what will almost certainly prove to be a fruitless civil rights-centered investigation of Brown’s death.

“Today, with our investigation into the Ferguson Police Department and our reform efforts in St. Louis County, we’re taking significant steps to keep that promise,” Holder said. “As these efforts unfold, my colleagues and I will keep working with the people in Ferguson to ensure that a fair, thorough investigation occurs; to see that dialogue can be translated into concrete action; and to facilitate lasting, positive change – that brings together police officials, civil rights leaders, and members of the public – to bridge gaps and build understanding.”

Except perhaps for what some critics said was an initially heavy-handed and overly militaristic approach to crowd control used by Ferguson police, there is no evidence much, if any, change is actually needed in the St. Louis-area township.

To repeat, this expanded federal investigation of a local incident has absolutely nothing to do with justice and everything to do with electoral politics. Although at least 40 federal agents have reportedly been on the ground in the St. Louis area desperately searching for proof of racial animus on the part of Darren Wilson, a decorated Ferguson police officer who shot Brown Aug. 9 after the 18-year-old suspected gang member beat him and tried to take his handgun, such evidence remains elusive.

That figure of 40 agents is apparently more than the Obama administration has assigned to all the other major scandals embroiling the administration combined. Those other scandals include Hillary Clinton’s Benghazi bungling, IRS persecution of conservative groups, New Black Panther Party voter intimidation charges, the Fast and Furious gun-running episode, and the NSA’s domestic spying.

All the racial grievance-community organizing complex currently has to go on is the fact that the decedent was black and the policeman was white.

It is, of course, no coincidence that the investigation was announced as President Obama’s approval rating with the public dipped to record lows. At an anemic 38 percent according to Gallup’s three-day rolling average, it is now descending into President Nixon territory. Obama is anxious to change the conversation to issues that don’t matter like raising the minimum wage and income inequality.

The announcement of an expanded federal investigation in Ferguson comes three weeks after the race-baiting members of the far-left Congressional Black Caucus demanded a federal lynch mob be assembled to put the mostly white Ferguson police department in its place.

In a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio), who heads the CBC, Reps. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.), and John Conyers (D-Mich.) demanded the political persecution of Ferguson cops because in their view Brown’s killing “may be part of a continuing pattern of the use of deadly force by police against unarmed African-Americans.”

Brown’s shooting raises “potentially serious concerns” about law enforcement in St. Louis, the lawmakers wrote. Holder’s Department of Justice should take over the probe because, they claim, the St. Louis County Police Department “may not be the most objective or credible body to investigate civil rights matters involving law enforcement given evidence of racial profiling by that department in the recent past.”

“Only the federal government has the resources, the experience, and the full independence to give this case the close scrutiny that the citizens of Ferguson and the greater St. Louis area deserve,” the letter said.

While Brown’s body was still warm, Democrats set up a voter registration booth where Brown died, as if the suspected gang member were some kind of martyr. They are now trying to leverage his death nationally for partisan purposes.

“This is going to go past Ferguson,” said John Gaskin III, a spokesman for the St. Louis County, Mo., NAACP and a member of the group’s national board of directors.

“What I’ve told people is I want them to be aware that there’s a Ferguson near you, near every city,” he said. “I don’t think people will run out of steam on this one.”

Holder’s announcement also comes days after Brown was laid to rest following a grotesque political rally led by the abominable racial arsonist Al Sharpton.

The politically correct lie that a helpless 6’4″ 292-lbs. Brown was shot in cold blood, arms raised while attempting to surrender to white police officer Wilson, instead of the less convenient truth that Brown was beating the cop while reaching for his gun, refuses to die.

In the minutes before he attacked Wilson, Brown was captured on video bullying a much smaller East Indian shopkeeper during a robbery, an act that some might consider a hate crime.

The image of a huge robber manhandling a much smaller victim won’t run out of steam anytime soon, either.

What's holding America back from preventing the next Ferguson.

Last week, as riots in Ferguson, Missouri decrescendoed and the country held its collective breath over the question of the indictment of Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown, rappers Diddy (formerly P. Diddy, formerly Puff Daddy, formerly Sean Combs), 2 Chainz, The Game, and Rick Ross, along with 10 of their fellows, released a song: “Don’t Shoot.”

The Game explained why he felt the necessity to record the song: “I am a black man with kids of my own that I love more than anything, and I cannot fathom a horrific tragedy like Michael Brown’s happening to them. This possibility has shaken me to my core.”

The lyrics of the song speak to a perverse view of race in America — a view reinforced day after day by a media dedicated to the proposition that American law enforcement maliciously targets black men at random. To this point, nobody knows the facts of the case in the Brown shooting. Nonetheless, the rappers label the shooting cold-blooded, first-degree murder. Because facts are unnecessary; only feelings are real. “God ain’t put us on the Earth to get murdered, it’s murder,” says one rapper, TGT. Another, The Game, raps, “They killin’ teens, they killin’ dreams, it’s murder.”

Next, Diddy launches into a listing of various black men killed under controversial circumstances. Some, like Emmett Till, were murdered in acts of pure and evil racism. But Diddy lumps together Till with Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown — and even Ezell Ford. Last week, the Los Angeles Police Department released the identities of the two police officers who shot Ford. One was Asian; the other was Hispanic. The Huffington Post did not even cover their races. The Los Angeles Times buried that relevant fact in paragraph 13 of their comprehensive story. But again, facts do not matter: Only a feeling of persecution matters.

Then Rick Ross sums up the generalized view of America created by media-stoked racial conflagrations like the Michael Brown situation: “Black men, we pay the toll, the price is your life, Uncle Sam want a slice, black dress code now we looting in the night, now we throwing Molotovs in this Holocaust.” A grand total of just under 100 young black men are killed by white police officers each year, according to statistics provided to the FBI by local police.

To compare police treatment of young black men to the Holocaust is not only statistically idiotic, but also morally dangerous.

Nonetheless, that is the view of police for many blacks: police as paramilitary white force out to target black men. When I was recently in the CNN green room with former Obama green jobs czar Van Jones, he and I got to talking about the Ferguson situation. I asked him why he believed there was such a racial gap in the interpretation of the situation. His answer: “You’re Jewish, right? Wouldn’t you jump to conclusions if you heard that the Nazis or Hamas had killed a Jew?”

Of course, not even Van Jones, Diddy, 2 Chainz, and the rest truly believe what they say about the police. All those who spout about a “Holocaust” by police against blacks would call 911 in approximately 3.5 seconds if their houses were robbed. But if we truly believe that America’s police forces are akin to Nazis or Islamic terrorists, there can be no decent solution. Fighting police would be a moral imperative, not a moral evil.

And therein lies the problem. The only real answer to the antipathy between large segments of the black community and police is threefold: first, taking seriously fact-based allegations of racism against the authorities, and investigating and prosecuting such allegations if well-founded; second, not jumping to conclusions about non-fact-based allegations; and third, lowering crime rates among young black men, thereby lowering interactions between police and young black men.

But those are not solutions backed by the racially delusional. Instead, they suggest an unending and circular “conversation” about race that goes something like this: Police sometimes shoot young black men; that’s because police are racist; therefore, those who resist police are not morally unjustified; rinse, wash, repeat.

Sadly, America’s media backs this second approach. And so we end up with damaging foolishness like “Don’t Shoot” infusing our pop culture and the snarky but empty-headed racial guilting of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert invading our news. And nothing gets solved. We just get more hate, more rage and more violence.

The Ferguson mob sets its sights on Officer Wilson’s head.

An Al Sharpton-led memorial service yesterday for Michael Brown, the black 18-year-old thug who gave a white Ferguson, Mo. police officer a severe head injury while trying to seize his handgun, became the grotesque political rally some observers feared it would be.

The distinctly anti-police tone of the service was proof that the lie that Brown tried to surrender to white police officer Darren Wilson, rather than trying to beat the life out of him, won’t die. The racial-grievance industry, egged on by President Obama, won’t let it go.

The Left’s narrative that the nearly 300-lbs. Brown, who had just robbed a convenience store on Aug. 9 mere minutes before encountering decorated policeman Wilson, is under withering evidentiary assault every day. As federal officials scour the riot-torn St. Louis suburb in a desperate search for material to justify federal civil rights charges, Sharpton is pressing on with his campaign to foment race-based hatred.

The funeral sets the stage for the mob-led lynching of Officer Wilson, an outcome eagerly sought by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Missouri’s governor, Jay Nixon (D). Nixon has been covering his left flank in recent days, terrified because activists noticed that he seemed to support law and order and oppose mobocracy, rioting, and looting in the early hours of the crisis that followed Brown’s death. But after criticism from the Left, Nixon, like the Democratic members of the local congressional delegation, wants Wilson indicted, evidence or not.

Brown was remembered at a star-studded Baptist church funeral choreographed by racial grievance profiteer Sharpton. From Hollywood, movie director Spike Lee and actor Wesley Snipes attended the service, along with purported civil rights leader Martin Luther King III, U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), and U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), a left-wing extremist who believes urban riots constitute legitimate political activism. Lee is on record praying that Ferguson would explode in racial violence. Also in attendance were three officials from the Obama White House — a greater number of representatives than Obama sent to the recent funeral for a murdered brigadier general, the highest-ranking U.S. officer to be killed in a war in decades.

But despite growing evidence suggesting Brown wasn’t such a good kid, Sharpton pontificated that the decedent was a gentle giant who only wanted the best for his fellow human beings.

“Michael Brown does not want to be remembered for a riot. He wants to be remembered as the one that made American[s] deal with how we gonna police in the United States,” Sharpton thundered before a crowd estimated at 4,500, in a eulogy that was more like a spirited pep talk before the Left’s planned lynching of Officer Wilson.

Given that the decedent’s rap music recordings focused on the joys of illicit drug use, criminal violence including rape, and “hos” it is hard to imagine Brown gave much thought to law enforcement best practices.

Sharpton howled that Brown’s body laid out in the street for a whole 90 minutes before a police detective arrived to begin an investigation into the shooting, as if it had been an intentional insult to Brown on the part of racist police:

And when I saw Michael lying there, I thought about how many of us were just considered nothing. How we were just so marginalized and ignored. Whatever the circumstance an investigation leads to, to have that boy lying there, like nobody cared about him. Like he didn’t have any loved ones, like his life value didn’t matter … I told his grandfather, I don’t care what happened, but whatever we can do I’ll be there to do it.

And if the corpse had been scooped up from the ground right away Sharpton and his ilk would now be screaming that the evidence hadn’t been properly preserved by bungling Keystone Kops who didn’t care if a dead black man got justice.

Sharpton also showed his paranoid side, ranting that people were coming after African-Americans because of their “blackness”:

So that they are justifying trying to come at us because some of us act like the definition of blackness is how low you can go. Blackness has never been about being a gangster or thug. Blackness was no matter how low we was pushed down, we rose up anyhow. Blackness was never surrendering our pursuit of excellence. It was when it was against the law to go to some schools, we built black colleges and learned anyhow.

At one point in the address, Sharpton shouted:

America, it’s time to deal with policing! We are not the haters, we’re the healers!

What does it require of us? We can’t have a fit; we’ve got to have a movement. A fit you get mad and run out for a couple of nights. A movement means we’ve got to be here for the long haul, and turn our chants into change, our demonstration into legislation, we have got to stay on this so we can stop this.

After Brown died violence erupted in Ferguson, Sharpton said, pretending not to approve of said violence. With no obvious oratorical segue, Sharpton screamed:

This is not about you! This is about justice! This is about fairness! And America is going to have to come to terms when there’s something wrong that we have money to give military equipment to police forces, but we don’t have money for training, and money for public education, and money to train our children!

Which is what it is all about for Sharpton: the money.

Shakedowns are the name of the game for Sharpton and his group, National Action Network, whose motto is the cry of the rioter, “No justice, no peace.”

Every time a black person dies tragically, especially when it happens in a newsworthy way, Sharpton sees dollar signs — and his business partner, Barack Obama, sees votes.

Why isn’t anyone speaking the most obvious and most disturbing truth about what has been taking place in Ferguson? This is a lynch mob. It is unconcerned with the facts, impatient with due process, and it wants a severely injured officer who is probably the victim of a vicious criminal thug, indicted, tried and convicted or else. And the reason it wants him convicted is that he is white. This lynch mob even wants the prosecutor removed because his father was the victim of a black criminal 50 years ago.

This thuggery would be seen as classic lynch mob behavior except that it is composed mainly of blacks and its leaders include the Democrat Attorney General of the United States and the Democratic Governor the state of Missouri (on second thought this not so unusual). The mob is inflamed and abetted by an anti-white media that accepts the unfounded, actually ludicrous idea that unarmed black teens are regularly shot down in the streets by white police officers who are protected by a white supremacist power structure. As Bill O’Reilly courageously pointed out, there are approximately 12 million arrests every year in America and only 400 police shootings – and how many of these inspire criminal riots in the streets? Moreover, as O’Reilly did not mention, crime statistics show that a white person is 25 times more likely to be the victim of a violent crime committed by a black person than vice versa.

What is truly remarkable about the nation’s tolerance for the new lynch mobs is that they have lasted for decades without drawing an appropriate moral disapprobation. Here are three recent cases: The destruction of the career and fortune of Paula Deen, a white supporter of President Obama, over a remark she made to her husband in private after being mugged by a black criminal twenty-five years earlier; the public lynching of three innocent Duke LaCrosse players, also led by Sharpton and Jackson, the nation’s most notorious lynch mob leaders; the rush to judgment and demand for conviction and punishment of George Zimmerman, falsely portrayed as a “white Hispanic” to make him culpable. And one could go on and on.

The truth is that American culture has been tragically warped by the political left, which fervently believes that whites are guilty before the fact and blacks are innocent even after the fact. The chief law enforcement officer of the land has shown himself to be a devotee of this creed, over and over. The racial morality play of white supremacy and black oppression is perhaps the most crucial melodrama the left lives by, and can’t give up. But conservatives are also too timid and apparently too haunted by guilts of the increasingly distant past to fight back.

All this has created an ongoing spectacle that encourages the criminal violence from blacks that we are witnessing in the streets of Ferguson, and the obscene libels that are issuing from the mouths of so-called civil rights leaders, Democratic officials and MSNBC radicals targeting white people. In truth, white people, who recently elected and re-elected the first black president, are far more put upon and victimized by black thugs like Michael Brown than they are models for the racially vicious caricatures contrived by the leftwing lobby and its lynch-happy followers.

It is time for this corrosive and destructive mythology to be challenged by more Americans than just Bill O’Reilly and (less forthrightly) the Fox network. It is time for people who think of themselves as liberals to liberate themselves from the false narratives of white culpability and black innocence and start judging people as individuals and assessing them through the facts. It’s time for Americans to return to the traditions that created this pluralistic miracle, the fairest and most equitable nation in history. It was the principles of the American founding that inspired Martin Luther King and gave birth to the Civil Rights Acts which ended racial categories and preferences in America’s institutional life until the political left and the Democratic Party started putting them back in. The emergence of a civil rights movement that behaves like a lynch mob is integrally related to the tolerance of racial arsonists like Jackson and Sharpton and to lawless, racist mobs that will only be satisfied by a pound of white flesh.

But is there really a race war, and if so, which side is actually waging it? See Bill Whittle’s video and transcript below:

TRANSCRIPT:

RACE RIOTS IN FURGUSON

Hi everybody. I’m Bill Whittle and this is the Firewall.

Before we get into the bigger picture – of which the ongoing rioting in Furguson, Missouri is merely a symptom – let’s just be crystal clear about something.

IF it turns out that a police officer shot Michael Brown as he was standing still, his hands in the air, as his defenders claim, then that police officer needs to be charged with murder, and he needs to go to jail for the rest of his life.

But that doesn’t seem like what happened at all. This story is still unfolding and new details are being revealed every day. I’m not going to speculate on how Michael Brown’s life actually came to an end. But I am going to talk about what happened before and after.

Michael Brown has been repeatedly referred to in the media as a “gentle giant,” and an “unarmed black teen.”

Here’s surveillance video of the gentle giant, taken a short time before the shooting, stealing a handful of cigars and then gently strong arming the store owner out of his way.

So why is it that the Attorney General, appointed by the President of the United States of America, put intense political pressure on the Ferguson Police Department to suppress this standard, ordinary surveillance video – a video, by the way, that caused the destruction of this man’s store and left him fearing for his life. Well, we’ll get to that in a moment.

Defenders of Michael Brown say that this is an attempt to criminalize him and therefore deflect attention from the police shooting. Really? That kind of casual violence, that sense of entitlement, that utter disrespect for the law or another human being – don’t take my word for it; the evidence is right there in front of your eyes – that attitude has nothing to do with the police claim that he was charging the officer when he was shot? This doesn’t shed some doubt on the story of a gentle, innocent, “unarmed black teen” assassinated by the police while his hands were in the air for the crime of being black?

Let’s cut to the chase here. Spokesmen for the protestors rioting in Ferguson and St. Louis – and, in fact, a large percentage of the general population — claim that there is an epidemic of white on black crime, of white cops shooting unarmed black teens. Is that, in fact, happening?

According to the FBI, there were 408,217 robberies in 2009. That’s about 1100 a day, or in round numbers, about once a minute, 24 hours a day. That means a thousand times a day the police are called, a thousand times a day arrests are made and in general terms the events leading up to the shots being fired in Ferguson Missouri happen about one thousand times PER DAY.

So if there’s this epidemic of white policemen executing innocent black males, why do we only hear about a case like this every few years? And why do most of those cases – like this one – seem to end up with extenuating circumstances? And why do the few cases that don’t have extenuating circumstances end up with the offending officers in jail? If this is an epidemic – where’s the epidemic? 30,000 commercial flights land safely each day in America. They don’t make the news either.

So. Is there an epidemic of racial violence loose in America today?

There is.

According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, in 2010, 62,593 blacks were the victims of white violence. During that same year, 320,082 whites were the victims of black violence. That’s five times as many violent attacks, but that number is misleading, since the black and white populations are not the same size. When 38 million black Americans commit five times as many violent crimes on 197 million whites as they receive, what you discover is that black perpetrators violently assault White victims TWENTY-FIVE times more frequently. When it comes to a specific kind of violent crime — aggravated assault — the number of black on white crimes is TWO HUNDRED TIMES HIGHER than white on black crimes. Oh, there’s an epidemic of racial violence in America, all right.

Reporter and author Colin Flaherty has taken a cold, clear-eyed view of the statistics that don’t make the news because they are suppressed by the news. He reports, for example — again in 2010 — the National Crime Victimization Survey reported approximately 13,000 black-on-white rapes and 39,000 black-on-white robberies – both violent crimes. The statistics show that the number of white on black rapes and violent robberies were so small that they had to be rounded to the nearest whole number, and that whole number was ZERO.

Critics will say that I am using these statistics to justify the murder of Michael Brown. But I said at the beginning – if Michael Brown were shot in cold blood then the police officer needs to pay the price for murder. This has nothing to do with Michael Brown. This has EVERYTHING to do with the narrative that the President, the Attorney General, and all of these race hustlers are trying to create using Michael Brown.

There is, in fact, a racial war of violence and hatred in America. Open racism is simply not tolerated in white America today, but black racism is the toxic glue that holds the progressive coalition together. Tolerance of – in fact, as we see from the events in Ferguson, open encouragement of black rage at a narrative that not only does not exist but reverses the daily outrages that do exist, is what defines modern progressivism. It is the politics of envy, anger, entitlement, lawlessness, violence and bald-faced lies.

And of all the promises broken by this man, surely none is more heartbreaking than the one promise that got him elected in the first place: the promise of a post-racial future. He and his racist progressive cohorts can never surrender the weapon that has gotten them everything, not the least of which is personal political power and trillions of dollars of redistributed wealth. And this latest outrage in Furguson is yet another example – as if another was needed among the economic wreckage, creeping totalitarianism, and foreign-policy disasters — that he and his leftist cohorts would rather rule over ruins than disappear into the dustbin of a healthy and healed nation.

The black community's distorted view of Ferguson — and how to fix it.

On Monday, Rasmussen released a poll of Americans regarding the guilt or innocence of Officer Darren Wilson, the police officer who shot unarmed 18-year-old black man Michael Brown six times in Ferguson, Missouri. Those polls show that 57 percent of black adults think that Wilson should be found guilty of murder; 56 percent of whites, by contrast, are undecided on the matter.

The latter position is the correct one. Witnesses, including one Dorian Johnson, claim that Brown was pulled over by Wilson, attacked by him and pulled into the car, ran, stopped when told to freeze by Wilson, held up his hands, and was then shot. Other witnesses — more than a dozen of them, according to local media — say that Brown attacked Wilson, went for Wilson’s gun, fled before being told to stop, then charged Wilson before being shot.

Here’s what we do know: Despite original media reports labeling Brown a “gentle giant,” Brown and shooting witness Dorian Johnson did participate in a strong-arm robbery of a local convenience store. We know that despite original witness reports suggesting that Brown was shot in the back, he was not. We know that contemporaneous witness accounts caught on tape suggest that Brown charged at Wilson. And we know that a young black man is dead with six bullets in him at the hands of a white cop.

And to huge segments of the black community, that last fact is the only one that matters. The full facts do not matter to extremists in the black community and to their white leftist enablers, particularly in the media. A full 41 percent of black Americans believe that riots and looting represent “legitimate outrage.” Not protesting — riots and looting. Just 35 percent of blacks think that looters and rioters are criminals taking advantage of the situation.

There is a pattern here: a widespread belief in the black community that the justice system is rigged against them. That belief is not without basis — there is no question that America has a history of racism within the criminal justice community. By the same token, there is also no question that American law enforcement is the least racist it has ever been, by a long shot, and that racism within the law enforcement community is broadly considered unacceptable and vile.

But the belief in a racist justice system seems to have maintained its stranglehold inside the black community. That belief, taken to its extreme, means support for black criminality. It is no coincidence that during the O.J. Simpson trial, 60 percent of black Americans did not believe O.J. was guilty. It is also no coincidence that many white Americans perceive black support for murderers like O.J. Simpson and riots in Ferguson as support for lawlessness, and therefore pooh-pooh charges of police racism. When crying racism becomes crying wolf, it is hard to take such charges seriously.

The solution, however, lays neither in knee-jerk accusations of racism from the black community nor in immediate dismissals of individual accusations by the white community. It lies in continued targeting and prosecution of individual racists in the police community, of course — and far more importantly, it lies in less criminality within the black community. The high levels of crime in the black community contribute to heavier policing, which in turn reinforces perceptions of racial targeting; those perceptions then create resentment against police than ends too often in violent encounters and failure to report crime. And so the cycle starts anew.

It’s time to break the cycle. The only way to do that is to focus on the fact that police have no excuse to shoot anyone unless those people are committing criminal acts. On that we can all agree. Yes, we must arduously insist that police hold to that standard, and we must prosecute those who do not to the fullest extent of the law. But by the same token, we must insist that criminal acts stop — and to do that, we must move beyond simple anti-police sentiment.

Dr. Baden's autopsy makes impossible a racist Left's narrative.

Dr. Baden’s autopsy results put an end to the story line that Michael Brown had been shot from behind, and it brands as liars those witnesses who made up that story and claimed to have seen it happen.

And so now the people who want officer Wilson to be found guilty have retreated to a fall-back story that they think is consistent with the autopsy results: six shots was excessive and shows an officer out of control and firing wildly, needlessly endangering
life. But that story too, won’t work, because when we look at the pattern of the shots, they show exactly the opposite.

Two of the six shots are to the head, and everyone agrees that those must have been the last two, since they would have caused Michael Brown to fall to the ground. What about the other four? They are all to the right arm. Far from firing wildly, the officer was consistently aiming for the same part of the body. There is only one reasonable explanation for that. Officer Wilson was trying hard NOT to kill Michael Brown. He was trying to wing him, hoping that would stop his forward rush. That’s why he fired so many shots at the area of the right arm. The lethal shot was fired only after he had failed in
many attempts to stop Brown by winging him. Rightly understood, the six shots are not incriminating, but exculpatory.

Those first four shots also make nonsense of the other part of the revised story line: that Brown had his hands up in a gesture of surrender. Why would anyone shoot four times at a raised arm? That would surely be bizarre, especially for a man supposed to be full of lethal malice. The competing explanation makes perfect sense: the officer was firing at the right edge of the body to stop the forward-rushing Brown without killing him.

The militarization of the police was a response to left-wing terror.

The interior of the Ferguson Market and Liquor Store is littered with broken bottles and scattered snacks. Despite the plywood boards covering the windows and doors, looters with their faces covered in bandanas helped themselves to anything they could find as those who came to memorialize Michael Brown carried on his work.

The violence in Ferguson didn’t begin when a police officer shot Michael Brown. It began when a 300 lb thug robbed the Ferguson Market and abused a clerk. The release of the video showing the obese criminal assaulting the clerk led to a terrified statement from the store manager that he had not called the police and had nothing to do with the release of the video.

“They kill us if they think we are responsible,” he said.

That is what this conflict is about. The police exist so that Ferguson Market and a hundred other stores can do business without being robbed or murdered. Darren Wilson, the officer who shot Michael Brown, was holding down the thin line that makes it possible for stores to stay open.

When the police pulled back, the rioting and looting began in earnest. Governor Nixon, a critic of the police was forced to turn to the National Guard. The police were never the problem. The looters and rioters were.

The photos of protesters with their hands in the air confronting police in riot gear told a very misleading story. But the real story was sitting in a video held by the Ferguson police and the Justice Department. It was the video of Michael Brown assaulting a clerk at Ferguson Market.

The Justice Department and Governor Nixon did not want the video released because it put the emphasis back where it should have been all along. This was not a conflict between Michael Brown and the police. It was a conflict between Michael Brown and a Ferguson Market worker.

We are all that worker.

Any of us can be targeted by a Michael Brown at any time. Every week delivers up fresh new victims of the knockout game. A pregnant woman. An elderly man. A child.

The police are the common defense we use to protect ourselves against the kind of society where store workers have to fear being killed. They are not perfect, but they are far better than the rule of the Michael Browns who take what they want and attack anyone who tries to stop them.

In Ferguson there was a choice between looters wandering around shouting “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” and ordinary citizens crying out “Hands Up, Don’t Loot”. Shouting “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” at a police officer might work. Shouting “Hands Up, Don’t Loot” at a looter won’t.

And that is why we have police forces. As flawed as they are, they follow some rules. The looters follow no rules at all.

Despite all the talk about the militarization of the police, there is very little discussion of why. The police and the prisons are a societal immune response to an infection

Talking about the immune response as if it exists entirely apart from the infection is how we ended up with hysterical coverage of the unarmed teen shot in the back by a crazed racist officer. Not only was the media take on the story a lie, but it removed the context of the crime from the response to the crime. That was what made Brown’s shooting seem senseless and insane.

Stripping away the rioting and looting from the police in riot gear made the law enforcement response seem deranged and insane. It’s only when we see the rioting, the looting and the arson, the shots fired and Molotov cocktails thrown that the heavy gear suddenly has a context.

This is a trick that the left has been playing for a very long time. In Ferguson or Gaza, in Afghanistan or New York, it focuses on what soldiers and police do without the context of what they are responding to. Watch a few hours of media coverage from Gaza and you’ll conclude that Israel is fighting a war against crying children. Without footage of Hamas terrorists or Israeli children under fire, the Israelis seem like murderous lunatics.

And that is exactly what the media wants you to think.

If the United States continues bombing ISIS, the media will stop showing photos of crying Yazidi refugees and instead show us the crying Sunni Muslim children of the families in Mosul who support ISIS. And then the United States will be accused of murdering crying children for no reason at all.

This happens all the time.

The media gave us every detail of Clayton Lockett’s suffering after his botched execution. It didn’t tell us how he raped one teenage girl and shot her friend and buried her alive while she begged for her life. It didn’t even tell us that Lockett died horribly because opponents of the death penalty had been working overtime to cut off the supply of reliable lethal injection drugs.

Without that context, the justice system seemed monstrous for making a man suffer while the monster was passed off as the innocent victim of the senseless brutality of the system.

All systems and people are flawed, but our law enforcement and military are reactive. When we don’t talk about what they are reacting to, then there is nothing meaningful to say.

We have SWAT teams because of race riots and urban guerrilla warfare. Without Watts, the Black Panthers and the SLA, the police militarization would probably never have existed.

The militarization of the police was a response to left-wing violence and terror.

If the left hadn’t spent much of the last century inciting race riots and setting up terrorist groups, there wouldn’t be police officers armed for war.

If not for the left’s disastrous social experiments, the War on Drugs would never have been necessary.

Finally, if the left hadn’t shifted immigration over to the Third World while sympathizing with Islamic terrorists, September 11 and its law enforcement and military aftermath would never have been necessary.

This is why the left tears away the context from a crisis. If we began to genuinely discuss why there are police officers dressed like soldiers or TSA agents examining your shoes, the line would trace all the way back to the left.

Communists realized how useful race riots and the authoritarian backlash could be to their agenda. Terrorists don’t just aim for the target; they also exploit the fallout to polarize a society.

That is what the left has been doing for generations since.

From the Weathermen to September 11, the left polarized the response while removing the context. The left plants the bombs and then acts as if the security men running around are insane fascists.

Ferguson is more of the same. The left’s army of activists and reporters troop down to the city. The activists start the violence while the reporters dramatize it. The coverage polarizes Americans and gives the left another hook for hanging on to power long after its economic policies have been as thoroughly discredited as those of the Soviet Union.

The left isn’t just covering up for the rioters and the looters, the terrorists and the murderers. It is covering up its own role.

That is why its cultural apparatus snips away the context, reacting to the reaction as if it were the cause. The left keeps yammering about finding the root cause, but it is the root cause.

The root cause isn’t poverty. It’s not racism. It’s the left.
