The NEA is really staying classy in the Colorado recall battles

The NEA, the nation’s largest teachers’ union, is really staying classy in the Colorado recall battles pitting supporters of the Second Amendment against their elected officials.

In a desperate effort to convince Coloradans not to sign any more recall petitions, the Democracy Defense Fund distributed these door hangers accusing the petition collectors of being criminals and pedophiles.

Though Colorado Democrats have denied any connection to the door hangers, the Democracy Defense Fund lists Kathryn Wallace as its registered agent. Wallace has run for office several times and appears to be affiliated with the Jefferson County Democratic Party.

More significantly, the Democracy Defense Fund is drawing its money from reliable liberal donors. Mainly unions who play power games with the forced contributions of workers.

Finance reports filed late Monday night reveal the Democracy Defense Fund, which is backing Hudak, received about $120,000 in the reporting period from Oct. 21 until Nov. 19.

A snapshot of the reports reveals the NEA Fund for Children and Education, a Washington, D.C. – based political action committee, bankrolled the group with $25,000 and the union AFSCME doled out $20,000. Colorado’s AFL-CIO contributed $15,000, while the International Association of Firefighters contributed $10,000.

Last week, Recall Hudak Too, the group looking to oust Hudak, reported raising $64,600 in the same time frame, with most of the money coming from hundreds of small dollar contributors.

So the NEA Fund for Children and Education is intervening in a Colorado local election to help fund accusations that citizens who favor recalling anti-Second Amendment politicians are pedophiles.

The Obama campaign reinvented itself as SuperPAC Organizing for Action to push Obama’s agenda while trading donations for access to the guy in the White House. ($500,000 gets you in.)

Organizing for Action’s headquarters is located inside the National Education Association building and it is unclear whether the organizing arm of the Chief Executive of the United States government is paying rent to the NEA or whether it’s getting the space as a contribution. OFA has refused to answer the question.

The National Education Association is the largest labor union in the United States. It donated 18 million dollars last year to political candidates. By far the largest recipient of that public sector employee money was Barack Hussein Obama. And it has spent another 6 million dollars on lobbying.

Like every other lefty org, the NEA is really a money funnel to the organizational infrastructure of the left, funneling sizable amounts of cash to Media Matters, Jesse Jackson’s racial shakedown group, Soros’ Democracy Alliance, DailyKos, Netroots Nations and the NAACP.

And now completing the takeover, the political arm of the Chief Executive is operating out of the NEA headquarters making the United States government an actual subsidiary of teachers unions.

It’s getting hard to tell the difference between America and Greece.

California’s Zigzag on Welfare Rules Worries Experts

FRESNO, Calif. — As he pressed state lawmakers over the summer to close a record budget deficit, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger lathered scorn on the state’s welfare-to-work program. He called it too lenient on the work requirement and overly generous in its benefits. At one point, he proposed eliminating it, then compromised to make it tougher.

Anna Zendejas, 20, with her son, Jesus, who was sick at home in Firebaugh, Calif.

So Anna Zendejas, a welfare recipient in a farm town 50 miles west of here, was more than a little surprised to get a letter recently saying that she did not need to work to collect her check — in effect, a return to the much-derided welfare approach that existed before a national overhaul in the 1990s.

It was no fluke. This fall, tens of thousands of Californians will be given a similar choice as the state embraces a startling reversal in some of its welfare policies for the next two years. It is a route that few are happy with, but that reflects the intersection of a recession, the worst fiscal crisis in the state’s modern history, a governor determined to slash social services, and the unplanned effects of federal stimulus funds.

Mr. Schwarzenegger did wring savings out of the state’s welfare-to-work program, known as CalWorks, and achieved a future tightening of the rules. But those changes do not start until July 1, 2011. In the interim, to save $375 million a year, the state is trimming the employment assistance programs at the heart of the welfare-to-work approach, especially subsidized child care, and suspending work requirements for a large share of recipients. Those programs were selected, in large part, because they were not eligible for extra federal money under the stimulus act.
