A few days ago I wrote about the radical, extremist New Israel Fund and their support for groups that hurt the State of Israel.

Israel’s Supreme Court issued a stay and agreed to rule on the planned demolition of several terrorists’ Jerusalem homes, including the terrorist who tried to kill American-born Rabbi Yehuda Glick, the terrorist who slammed his tractor into a bus, two who drove their cars into people near train stops, and those who murdered five Israelis a few weeks ago in a brutal massacre during morning prayers in Jerusalem. The day after that synagogue attack in Jerusalem, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered law enforcement to destroy the homes in question. The following day, one murderers’ home was destroyed – until the radical extremist organization Hamoked petitioned the Supreme Court on behalf of the terrorists and their families.

As this article in Yediot Achronot notes, Hamoked is representing the families of terrorists. Hamoked is a grantee of the New Israel Fund, which has provided $688,901 worth of grants from 2008-2013.

One can plainly see on Hamoked’s website their New Israel Fund partnership. Donors of New Israel Fund, which funds Hamoked, include Irwin and Joan Jacobs, the Fohs Foundation, the Bonnie and Marty Tenenbaum Foundation, the Edith and Henry Everett Foundation, The Irving Harris Foundation, Susie and Michael Gelman, and others.

A few weeks ago, a major donor to the New Israel Fund, the Leichtag Foundation, responded to my criticism by saying that their donations “involves the prerogative of a private foundation making determinations on best use of its resources. We are confident that our grant to the New Israel Fund was in line with our strategies and objectives and feel the money was well-spent.

They can spend their money how they want – yet Ms. Charlene Seidle, executive vice president of the Leichtag Foundation, is the incoming President and Chief Executive Officer of the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego and this is an inappropriate job for someone with these extremist viewpoints. The incoming CEO of a major Jewish organization helps fund causes which benefit the families of Arab terrorists who kill Jews in Jerusalem.

As The Algemeiner Journal reported New Israel Fund is “a controversial foundation that supports dozens of Israel related causes, many of which are considered hostile to the Jewish State.” The New Israel Fund supports groups that hurt the Jewish State. People give charity for many different causes – but those that help protect the families of terrorists would be the people Lenin spoke of when he called people who work against their people’s own best interests in support of their enemies “useful idiots.”

As Benjamin Netanyahu once said, “The truth is that if Israel were to put down its arms there would be no more Israel. If the Arabs were to put down their arms there would be no more war.”

The group described Israel as a “temporary Jewish apartheid state."

Michael Bloomberg has become infamous for funding political activism undermining the Bill of Rights in the United States, but interestingly enough he’s also funding anti-Israel campaigns inside Israel, as Ronn Torossian reveals.

Bloomberg donated to the New Israel Fund which is, despite its name, a virulently anti-Israel organization that feeds money to “Destroy Israel” type groups.

For example, Alma Biblash, the Executive Director of the Human Rights Defenders Fund (HRDF) an organization to which the NIF authorized grants worth $332,625 from 2011-2013, has called Israel “racist,” and “murderous,” and described the country as a “temporary Jewish apartheid state.” Ms. Biblash supports Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaigns and promotes the Palestinian ‘right of return,’ meaning the elimination of Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people.

Another recipient of NIF money was the Coalition of Women for Peace, which demands a boycott of all things Israeli, and has established a well-oiled database called “Who Profits” that targets Israeli businesses. NIF’s financial records indicate that it granted $109,615 to Breaking the Silence, which tours campuses accusing Israel of war crimes; $255,477 to B’Tselem, which provides cameras to groups that harass Israeli soldiers hoping to videotape the reaction and harm Israel’s image worldwide; and $209,161 to Adalah, which works to get Israel prosecuted in foreign jurisdictions and erase Israel’s Jewish identity. These three groups are among many NIF grantees that operate at the front line of anti-Israel agitation.

In July 2014, 10 NIF grantees launched a campaign to convince the UN Human Rights Council that Israel must be brought to justice for war crimes and targeting of civilians

While Ronn doesn’t believe that Bloomberg knows where his money is going, he’s a savvy businessman and I have trouble believing that he doesn’t understand what the NIF’s politics are. Yes out front the New Israel Fund talks about helping disadvantaged groups, but even the briefest look beyond its own publicity material at a site like NGO Monitor shows exactly what it really does.

The immense funding campaign behind the anti-Israel organization.

During these sensitive times, as the world is a kinder-box due to Muslim extremists, Jewish extremists must also be rejected. As Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor recently said in United Nations speech, “Most people believe that at its core, the conflict is a battle between Jews and Arabs or Israelis and Palestinians. They are wrong. The battle that we are witnessing is a battle between those who sanctify life and those who celebrate death.” The Ambassador is right – which means organizations like the New Israel Fund (NIF) which empower terrorists must be shunned. The New Israel Fund supports groups that hurt the Jewish State.

An NIF grantee, the Executive Director of the Human Rights Defenders Fund (HRDF), received $332,625 from 2011-2013 in grants from the New Israel Fund and recently called Israel “racist,” and “murderous,” and described the country as a “temporary Jewish apartheid state.” She actively promotes the Palestinian ‘right of return.’ Other NIF grantees demand boycotts of the State of Israel, and contribute to gross Anti-Semitism by funding campaigns for Breaking the Silence who tour college campuses to accuse Israel of war crimes. These organizations are outside the consensus. As The Algemeiner Journal reported New Israel Fund is “a controversial foundation that supports dozens of Israel related causes, many of which are considered hostile to the Jewish State.”

Thankfully today it was revealed that Birthright and Young Judea will no longer work with New Israel Fund. New Israel Fund is associated with funding boycotts of Israel and programs to support the Israel Defense Forces, hence the Jewish community is rejecting these extremists. As Algemeiner added, “NIF actively supports organizations like Machsom Watch, which harass Israeli soldiers while on duty at checkpoints, Breaking The Silence which dispatches former Israeli soldiers on international tours accusing the IDF of human rights violations and war crimes, and +972 magazine, which offers a ready stream of anti-Israel articles and opinions pieces. During the recent Gaza war, New Israel Fund dispatched emergency grants to fund anti-Israel protests in Israel.”

NIF donors support extremists’ viewpoints with barely any support amongst the democratic electorate of Israel. While one constantly hears about donors on the right, why is the left given a pass when they help fund anti-democratic behavior?

Irwin Jacobs, a co-founder of Qualcomm is a major donor to The New Israel Fund, as is his fellow San Diegoan, The Leichtag Foundation. While The Fohs Foundation claims that their position is “not to look back, not to criticize Israel or place blame, but rather to promote opportunity going forward,”, yet by supporting the New Israel Fund, they stand with calling Israeli soldiers war crimes. That is out of bounds – and responsible donors must reject these extremists.

From the Edith and Henry Everett Foundation who fund The Jewish Book Council, Joint Distribution Committee, American Friends of Israel Sci-Tech Schools and others, one fails to comprehend why they would want to be associated with the New Israel Fund, which Professor Gerald Steinberg recently described as an organization that “..claim to support Israel and human rights principles, they enable the highly destructive activities that do the opposite. By the time these funders acknowledge this failure and end their support, the damage will be done.”

From the Lisa and Douglas Goldman Fund to The Irving Harris Foundation, Arnold Hiatt to many others, The New Israel Fund annual report is a study in those who seek to fund campaigns which support boycotts of Israel, supporting Anti-Semitism on campus, and prosecuting Israeli war crimes. The supporters of these causes are all visible in the New Israel Fund annual report.

The New Israel Fund has decreased in funding from $37 Million in 2010 to $27 Million in 2013. This dangerous extremist organization neglects the reality on the ground and the will of the people. America’s closest Middle East ally, Israel, faces a grave enemy of terrorists and despots, and supporting organizations which undermine the Israel Defense Forces and encourage boycotts of Israel are simply dangerous.

Closing the communal tent to the promoters of Jew-hatred.

If a small group of grass-roots Jewish organizations have their way, more than one hundred protestors will assemble in New York City on April 29, 2014, each carrying a shofar. On cue, at 5:30 in the afternoon, rain or shine, all will raise their curved rams’ horns, long and short, and wail to the heavens in visceral unison producing a piercing spectacle of protest. The cacophonous alarums will continue their outcry until the shofar blowers feel they have made their point.

What are they protesting? It is their communal leadership.

The dissident shofar blowers will assemble in front of the 59th Street headquarters of the UJA-Federation of New York. The Federation’s beneficiary, the Jewish Community Relations Council, is the chief organizer of the Celebrate Israel Parade scheduled for June 1st. The upbeat procession of floats, runners, and marchers is normally a public show of Jewish unity in support of Israel. But this year, the parade has become a maelstrom of disunity over the participation of the controversial New Israel Fund and other groups which recent revelations now link to the Boycott, Sanctions and Divestment (BDS) movement and the campaign to delegitimize Israel internationally.

The outrage in some American, Jewish, and Israeli circles over the NIF’s inclusion in the highly visible parade, formerly known as the Israel Day Parade, may be more than just a passing horn blast. The discontent may be energizing a historic decision among American Jews. Just what constitutes the Jewish mainstream? Is American Jewry about to set limits on its open tent of inclusion, a precept the community wears as a badge of honor?

More than a few American Jews feel their community has been hijacked from within by such groups as the J Street lobby, the New Israel Fund, and other organizations that constitute a powerful, well-funded minority able to wage war against Israel seemingly in the name of the Jewish people. “These groups are anti-Jewish,” says Judith Freedman Kadish, special project director of Americans for a Safe Israel, “and they are funding groups that are anti-Semitic. They just veil their actions by saying they are trying to influence public policy and an occupation.” The accused organizations and their defenders in the Jewish media and within the Jewish activist community vigorously insist their activities are simply democratic dissent aimed at solving Israel’s problems.

The New Israel Fund, enabled by taxpayer subsidies of its 501(c)(3) status, has been a pivotal funder of the BDS movement that wages economic war against Israel. Until 2011, the NIF was a lead supporter of the Coalition of Women for Peace, which established a global BDS infrastructure. According to NIF financial records, in 2008 alone, the NIF bestowed $93,457 upon the Coalition of Women for Peace. Over a period of years, NIF financing of this organization reached a strong six-figure sum, which included both direct grants and those where the NIF acted as a go-between for other donors—a technique they called “donor advised funding.”

The NIF no longer provides money to the Coalition of Women for Peace. Now, the CWP is strong enough to gather its monies from other sources. But detractors say—the irreparable damage was done. Moreover, the BDS movement today is fortified by a conveyor belt of brutality and oppression accounts—some legitimate, some exaggerated, some invented—force fed to the world by agitation NGOs, including many financed by the New Israel Fund. NIF’s financial records for 2012 indicate that it granted $109,615 to Breaking the Silence, $255,477 to B’Tselem, and $209,161 to Adalah. These three groups are among dozens of NIF grantees that critics accuse of operating on the front lines of anti-Israel information and distorting the facts about international law as it affects Israel. Numerous Knesset members and Israeli military men have gone on record to decry the NIF as a well-financed, foreign, multinational NGO, hell-bent on “destabilizing the Israel Defense Forces” and erasing the Jewish identity from the State of Israel.

For example, NIF recipient Adalah’s admitted mission is to erase Israel’s Jewish identity and get Israelis prosecuted for war crimes in foreign capitals. On its website, Adalah brags of its robust role in the now-retracted Goldstone Report that accused Israel of war crimes in Gaza. B’Tselem provides cameras to agitators involved in orchestrated confrontations with Israeli soldiers, even as it tolerates repeated child endangerment by Palestinian provocateurs in the process. Another NIF recipient, an online publication known as +972, has published a Photoshopped image graphically depicting Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders in their underwear holding their crotches while carrying rifles, as well as a cartoon depicting former Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barack raping and eating the limbs of Barack Obama in outer space.

On its website, Partners for a Progressive Israel, has prominently encouraged the boycott of such Israeli products as Ahava and Sodastream. If the Sodastream facility were being run by Mormons from Utah, Polish nuns from Warsaw, or Mennonites from Indiana, it would be up for a Nobel Prize. Moreover, when confronted and called on it, no one can reliably cite the international law Sodastream is allegedly violating with its factory known to treat all equally.

Now, several Jewish and Zionist organizations are vociferously demanding that the NIF, B’Tselem, and Partners for a Progressive Israel all be excluded from marching in the upcoming annual Celebrate Israel Parade. The NIF has participated in prior years. These grass-roots groups and individuals—about a dozen main ones— include Rabbi Elie Abadie of the architectonic Edmond de Safra Congregation in Manhattan, the Zionist Organization of America, Americans for a Safe Israel, and the campaign’s central mover, JCC Watch, headed up by Richard Allen, a private individual.

The anti-NIF protestors have been dismissed as a “fringe.” New York’s Jewish Week ran an NIF op-ed defaming the protestors as a “tiny extremist group.” Ardent Israel supporter Alan Dershowitz decried the exclusion effort. The Anti-Defamation League in a statement and New York’s Jewish Week in an editorial, denounced JCC Watch for a protest flyer featuring a photo of the 1933 iconic “April First” Nazi boycott of Jews in Germany.

In his flyer, Allen of JCC Watch was referencing that the organized international Arab boycott against Jews began on April 1, 1933, after the Mufti of Jerusalem imported Hitler’s April First boycott into the Arab and Islamic world. Few remember that April First Nazi boycott was launched by Hitler after a million-man, anti-Nazi protest in Madison Square Garden and elsewhere a few days earlier on March 27, 1933. Even fewer recall that the March 27 rally was preceded earlier that month by a scraggly, rag-tag assemblage of Jewish War Veterans, who marched in New York City calling for a pre-emptive boycott of Nazi Germany. As they marched, those JWV were vociferously denounced, disowned and marginalized by the leaders of organized Jewry who labeled them as “nobodies” and “extremists,” saying they “speak for no one.” History immutably records that the JWV actually spoke for many — and long before others were willing to speak at all.

JCC Watch and its anti-NIF coalition might be a so-called “fringe,” with an unpolished website, inelegant rhetoric and few dollar resources. But its message has struck a chord. Perhaps one hundred chords. Perhaps wailed by one hundred shofars on a street corner in Manhattan. Kadish of AFSI says she has never blown a shofar before in her life—but on April 29, she intends to be in front of the UJA offices to sound off. Allen of JCC Watch says he has been assured, “Shofars will come from far and wide as we chant ‘Hear O’ Israel.’”

Maybe … just maybe … something is happening.

The movement for the Jewish community to draw lines may have gained traction as a result of an unrelated April 11, 2014 event. The controversial lobby known as J Street, which applied for membership in the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, was subjected to what The Forward called “a grilling” by the Conference’s membership selection committee over J Street’s ties to other BDS movement organizations, such as Jewish Voices for Peace. A source described the session as “passionate, intense—a lot of arguing.” Ultimately, she added, “the selection committee declined to vote, making it procedurally very difficult” for J Street to join the Presidents’ Conference. The esteemed Presidents’ Conference epitomizes the Jewish communal mainstream, reflecting a vast gamut of views–from Americans for Peace Now, highly-critical of Israel, to the staunchly defensive Zionist Organization of America—52 organizations in all.

In the days before the selection committee’s “grilling,” the leadership of several organizations and well-known commentators expressed dismay that J Street—sometimes accused of fronting for the Arab Lobby—would even apply. An opinion piece in The Jerusalem Post last fall declared, “[J Street] Founder and president Jeremy Ben-Ami refuses to recognize Israel as a ‘Jewish state’ … co-founder Daniel Levy has described Israel’s creation as ‘an act that went wrong.’ … Ben-Ami was also proven to be a serial liar when, despite his repeated denials, the anti-Israeli George Soros was exposed as one of his major contributors.”

Now, as the Jewish and Israeli media buzzes with the kitchen-table revolt cooked up by JCC Watch, Rabbi Abadie, and others railing against the NIF’s participation in the Celebrate Israel Parade, the umbrage against the NIF’s participation is only growing. Rabbi Abadie has threatened to pull his congregation’s participation and financial support for the parade, and like-minded Sephardic congregations have promised to join him. An article in The Algemeiner likened the NIF’s parade inclusion to “appeasement.” Earlier this month, Member of Knesset Nissim Ze-ev joined flag-waving protestors in a Manhattan demonstration against the JCRC. MK Ze-ev declared, “Any Jewish organization which supports the BDS [movement] has no place among supporters of Israel. The UJA and JCRC, as leading organizations of American Jewry, must adhere to this policy if they are to be considered supporters of Israel.”

An April 4, 2014 article on the controversy in The Jerusalem Post led with the subhead: “Diaspora Affairs Ministry reconsidering its funding of future parades.” Subsequent reports conveyed confusion over whether the ministry was considering pulling funding or simply reallocating its budget. A number of Israeli officials consider themselves at war with the New Israel Fund. A source in the Celebrate Israel Parade management, not authorized to speak to the media, stated, “The parade derives its revenue from registration fees, float sponsorship, private philanthropy, and a grant from the Israeli government.” A second parade management source added, “The money from the Israeli government is not reduced but each year comes from different ministries and offices in tweaked amounts.”

In an interview, NIF CEO Daniel Sokatch defended his group stating, “Some of these folks are saying that the NIF is now synonymous with the boogie man … We get blamed for everything. It is patently absurd. It bears no relation to reality. It would be laughable if it wasn’t so sort of sad.”

Clearly, a key demonstration of Jewish unity for Israel has now transmogrified into roiling divisiveness. That’s the opposite of the parade’s intent. For this reason, NIF supporters call for the open tent of inclusion to be broad enough to allow the most dissident factors in.

The Jewish community is now looking at its own mainstream and some are asking if the river banks need to be more defined and steeper. Some are also asking if whether the open tent, so precious to all, can survive if burning flames are brought inside.

Adalah is opposed to Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state

Women of the Wall, a group of secular activists from liberal Jewish groups, has been making a lot of noise over the Western Wall, the holiest site in traditional Judaism. The group has mainly gotten attention for its obnoxious tactics and the presence of foul-mouthed leftist Sarah Silverman’s sister.

WOW isn’t particularly interested in the Western Wall, a place that has little theological meaning in their liberal religious streams, but is part of a leftist campaign to engage in confrontational and divisive activism inside Israel and champion their social justice religion.

Now Matzav.com has run a Rachel Avraham piece alleging that Women of the Wall’s leaders have ties to Anti-Israel groups.

Jerusalem Online News recently learned that Batya Kallus, Women of the Wall Vice chair, facilitates funding for anti-Israel groups such as Adalah, Ir Amin, Yesh Din, Mossawa, among others, as part of her position as programs officer for the Moriya Fund. NGO Monitor has reported in depth about how these organizations contribute towards the delegitimization of Israel in the world.

Adalah is opposed to Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state, views Israel to be a colonial state, and has participated in anti-Israel activism via Israel Apartheid Weeks.

Ir Amin supports the division of Yerushalayim, has asserted that Israel’s archaeological digs within the city are a “tool in the fight for control” over the city. They run highly politicized anti-Israel tours of the holy city, which indoctrinate internationals into holding anti-Israel views.

Yesh Din views Israel to be an apartheid state and demonstrated support for Turkey after the Gaza Flotilla incident, even though the Turkish sailors on board the Mavi Marmara ship chanted jihadi slogans and attacked IDF soldiers.

The Moriah Fund also supports the militantly anti-Israel 972 magazine, Breaking the Silence, which accuses Israeli soldiers of war crimes, Sikkuy and B’Tselem, whose leaders and board members have accused Israel of Apartheid and urged sanctions against the Jewish State.

(Moriah also helps fund Peter Beinart’s Open Zion blog, Peace Now, La Raza, Jewish Funds for Justice (aka Bend the Arc) and the Tides Center. )

Anat Hoffman, Chairwoman of Woman of the Wall, also happens to be the chairwoman of the Domari Society of Gypsies in Jerusalem. Her association partners include Yonathan Mizrahi and Dafna Strauss from the Emek Shaveh organization, which calls for an international committee to investigate Israeli archaeological work in Jerusalem and runs archaeology-based anti-Israel tours of the city. The Domari Society of Gypsies is also part of Al Aqsa Grassroots, an anti-Israel network that supports “resistance to the occupation” and is against the “Judaization of Jerusalem,” in addition to supporting the Palestinian right of return to Israel proper.

Which would mean the destruction of Israel.

The critique against Anat Hoffman’s Domari ties misses the point. Hoffman was a member of Women in Black, a left-wing anti-Israel group calling for a deal with the terrorists. Once the deal happened, a JTA piece describes Hoffman wondering where to go next.

Hoffman has appeared at a J Street conference, for the left-wing Anti-Israel lobby. She’s the executive director of the Israel Religious Action Centre, which is funded by the left-wing Anti-Israel group New Israel Fund about which you will learn more shortly.

The material on Batya Kallus, who based on the website, appears to be second-in-command of Women of the Wall is even more damning.

Batya Kallus (vice chair) has been involved with WOW since she moved to Israel in 1991. She is the Israel Advisor to the Fohs Foundation, a private American foundation that funds organizations which advance shared society and equality between Arab and Jewish citizens in Israel, and Program Officer for the Moriah Fund.

The Fohs Foundation is another case of left-wing hijacking. The Foundation had been explicitly set up to be pro-Israel and involved figures like Louis Brandeis, it now partners with various left-wing Anti-Israel groups, including the New Israel Fund and Sikkuy.

Fohs lists Batya Kallus as its Israel Representative, suggesting that she’s a good deal more than an adviser. Fosh’s trustees include “Rabbi” Ruth Sohn, signatory to a letter by the Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace, a radical Anti-Israel group, which has called for the United States to engage in the ethnic cleansing of Jews from parts of Israel. Sohn’s husband, “Rabbi” Reuven Firestone is the author of “An Introduction to Islam for Jews”

The Fohs Foundation has funded the New Israel Fund, which funds groups that support the boycott and destruction of Israel. The NIF’s Associate Director claimed that Israel would disappear in 100 years and that it would be a good thing. It funds Sikkuy, which participated in Durban and accuses Israel of racism.

The New Israel Fund has provided grants to Women of the Wall and has a good deal of promotional material on its site about WOW. Women of the Wall tells supporters in the US and UK to mail its checks directly to the New Israel Fund.

Batya Kallus’ role with the Fohs Foundation makes it painfully clear that her work with the Moriah Fund is not just “professional” and not a one-time event. There is now a pattern of her involvement in helping Anti-Israel groups defame and destroy the Jewish state.

Leora Bechor, an American left-wing lawyer from Columbia and NYU, is a board member of Women of the Wall, and appears to be a staff attorney for Anat Hoffman’s Israel Religious Action Centre. Bechor also appears to be the staff attorney for Hamoked. Bechor’s name also appears on a Hamoked submission to the UN Human Rights Committee. Hamoked is a radical anti-Israel group. The submission begins by accusing Israel of “the unilateral and illegal annexation of East Jerusalem” and suggests lines of attack for the UNHRC against Israel.

It is impossible to disentangle WOW’s leadership from their involvement in Anti-Israel activities.

Instead of engaging in a dialogue with the Pro-Israel community about its ties to the Anti-Israel left, Women of the Wall has responded with threats and attacks.

The original article was apparently taken down after threats of legal action. It’s not entirely clear why. It doesn’t appear that any of these facts are in any real doubt and can be independently verified by examining the websites of the relevant NGOs. I welcome any effort by WOW to clarify the facts and point out where they are in error.

Shira Pruce, the spokeswoman for Women of the Wall, wrote the following comment…

WOW does not comment on the personal and professional lives on volunteers, nor would any other NGO in good legal standing. These statements constitute slander and libel. The assumption that any of the leaders’ personal or professional lives- be they right wing or left and we have ALL represented on our board- DO NOT effect the non-partisan activity of WOW.

It’s not clear at all that WOW is non-partisan. Not when its two top leaders are members of the hard core Anti-Israel left. Shria Pruce herself has worked as a director at Maslan, the Jerusalem Open House for Pride and Tolerance (Coordinator of the Open Clinic Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Health Center) and The Counseling Center for Women, NGOs that appear to be funded by the New Israel Fund and which actually solicit checks to be sent to the NIF.

While these groups appear to be apolitical, the reality is more complex. The The Counseling Center for Women, for example, was co-founded by Ruthie El Raz, one of the co-founders of Women in Black.

And indeed Shria Pruce’s bio tells us that she worked at the New Israel Fund. The NIF, the black widow of the Israel left, has a history of using front groups to pursue its true agenda.

While Women of the Wall has some supposedly traditional and right-of-center members, much of its leadership appears to be partisan and their Anti-Israel activism raises the question of whether Women of the Wall is really seeking to achieve religious ends or to further damage Israel with negative publicity. Their tactics certainly accomplish that goal.

Women should be able to pray at the wall, but that right shouldn’t be hijacked by left-wing activists with a history of undermining Israel.

And Women of the Wall should make it clear what their links are to the New Israel Fund, a group whose associate director was quoted in a Wikileaks cable saying the following.

New Israel Fund (NIF) Associate Director in Israel Hedva Radovanitz, who manages grants to 350 NGOs totaling about 18 million dollars per year commented that she believed that in 100 years Israel would be majority Arab and that the disappearance of a Jewish state would not be the tragedy that Israelis fear since it would become more democratic.

The NIF has provided money to Women of the Wall and WOW tells supporters in the US and UK to mail its checks directly to the New Israel Fund.

If WOW is genuinely a patriotic and non-partisan group, it would return the NIF cash and refuse to have anything further to do with it. Until that happens, it cannot credibly claim to be patriotic or Zionist.

Instead of making threats, Women of the Wall should stop the obstructionism and come clean.

Time for the so-called supporters of the Jewish State to love another country.

Its summer time – primetime for Israel lovers to visit the country, tour, and enjoy all that Israel, the modern day miracle, has to offer. People relax on the beach, pray, sightsee – yet how come we never hear a nice word from “Zionists” like Peter Beinart or the New Israel Fund on things like this? They never ever have a positive word to say about Israel. These people get so much attention because they are Jewish and claim to be pro-Israel, but their whole purpose as Jews seems to be to hurt Israel, and their “support” only damages Israel.

The New Israel Fund, Beinart, all these people – do they donate to museums or (Jewish) cultural centers, enjoy the beaches of Tel Aviv, or the beauty of a Kabbalat Shabbat ceremony? If they do, one certainly never hears about it – we hear often about this obsession of “racism” towards Africans, “oppression” of the Palestinians, and problems of the Charedim with the less religious. Everyone – 100 percent of the Jewish people — wants peace, and no one claims the country is perfect, and certainly there are negative incidents in Israel, but why do they as “Zionists” or “Israel supporters” constantly harp on the negative? Any belief in criticizing your loved ones privately?

A simple review, preformed recently, of the front page of Beinart’s blog, “Open Zion,” sees the following articles on the home page: “Exploiting Jews from Arab Countries,” “Why Bibi Is wrong,” and “Prejudice in Israel,” and not one article remotely supportive of Israel. No horror expressed about Arab attacks on Jews, the mass killings in Syria, or a random story about some miracle in the desert in the start-up nation.

Only a few years ago, these same “Zionists” wanted to return the Golan to Syria. Today, we see the Syrian government slaughtering thousands of their own people, and the world is standing by. Can there be any doubt what they would do to the Jews? These liberal Jews claim to be all about acceptance and democracy and openness – As the overwhelming huge majority of Israelis chose Netanyahu, why can’t they accept this viewpoint? Is their love for Israel an abstract concept or do these “Zionists” believe that their own beliefs are more important than the vast majority of Israelis?

One hears constant criticism from these quarters about the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and Jewish strength, but never words of praise. Do they believe Israel should ever fight back? When is it okay to fight back? Why do they never (ever) praise the Jewish army – say for acceptance of women? Or its great rehabilitation programs? Anything? They constantly criticize so called Jewish “racists,” and the handful of “price-tag” activists – and refuse to acknowledge that Islam is anything but a religion of peace.

Perhaps the Zionism they support is a fantasy land where people sit around and sing “Kumbaya.”

Exposing the Israeli Shadow Party and its quest to revive the country's Left.

In the warm summer of 2011, a twenty-something Israeli named Daphne Leef set up a Facebook protest page agitating against the high cost of housing in Tel Aviv. She pitched a tent and helped touch off a social protest movement that received national and international attention.

While the protests were billed as grassroots, there was nothing grassroots about them. The protests had been organized and funded by the New Israel Fund. Daphne Leef worked as a video editor for the New Israel Fund.

In the winter of that same year, as the protests had died down, a woman named Tanya Rosenblit boarded a bus which runs through religiously hyper-conservative neighborhoods and staged an incident with the passengers. Rosenblit was dubbed an Israeli Rosa Parks and her stunt helped generate waves of articles about major social problems in Israel.

Rosenblit was associated with One Voice, an organization funded by the New Israel Fund, whose board included Alon Liel, the husband of New Israel Fund director Rachel Liel. Hardly had the NIF gotten through manufacturing one phony social protest movement than it was hard at work on another.

The pattern in both social protests was traditional divide and conquer methodology that pitted the segments of society against each with the goal of creating maximum disruption and mobilizing warm bodies to call for political change.

The New Israel Fund is the local Israeli version of Soros’ Shadow Party and it receives money from Soros. The Liels are the ultimate insiders. Rachel Liel worked as the Deputy Director of Rehabilitation Services in the Ministry of Labor and Alon Liel was the Director General of two ministries and a foreign affairs advisor to former Prime Minister Ehud Barak. Their real program is to bring the left to power.

As the mothership organization of the Israeli left, the New Israel Fund seeds funding to smaller NGOs, which go out and do their community organizing best to carry off the same sort of social conflicts on a communal level, mobilizing protests, manufacturing outrage and recruiting local activists to embed their agenda into a communal identity.

This program is a vital one for the Israeli left which has no voting base left to cling to. The Labor Party, once the dominant establishment, has become a shadow of its former self, forced into a coalition with the ruling conservative Likud Party. To understand their plight, imagine if the Democratic Party lost almost all its seats in Congress.

The Labor Party had alienated Israeli immigrant groups and the country’s religious population. The only minorities willing to vote for it were Arab Muslims, which wasn’t enough to keep it in power. The fringe left-wing parties meanwhile attracted the local version of the Berkeley vote but couldn’t get past their small number of parliamentary seats.

Most plans to revitalize the Israeli left as a political force beyond the ministries and organizations still controlled by its bureaucracy hinge on giving it a political base in Israeli society. While the Western left’s parties have become successfully identified with immigrants and identity politics, the two primary immigrant groups in Israel tend to skew conservative.

The current center-right consensus in Israel is reflective of Israeli society. Disrupting that consensus to create a mandate for change is the agenda of the New Israel Fund. Class warfare was the obvious opening shot.

Why won’t the New York Times report on the anti-Israel funders behind the Goldstone Report?

What the New York Times chooses to cover in the Arab-Israeli conflict – and what it excludes – is a story in itself. The paper’s silence, as of this writing, about an event that has rocked the Israeli media and public and triggered calls for government action once more raises serious questions about the paper’s news judgment. After all, the Times reports on no other foreign nation as minutely as it does Israel, whether about negotiations, housing permits in Jerusalem, Israeli gravel-use in the West Bank or a Tel Aviv polygamist.

The story being ignored is the Im Tirtzu campaign to expose the New Israel Fund’s connection to the defamatory Goldstone Report via its funding of groups that spurred the creation of and then contributed harsh commentary about Israel to the UN document. Originally founded as a student organization to counter anti-Zionist activity on campus, Im Tirtzu publicized revelations about the NIF-Goldstone ties in provocative ads across the country. The campaign began in January and has already prompted moves in the Knesset to intensify oversight of foreign political entities financing groups in Israel.

According to polls, the Israeli public by a significant margin opposes politically-based foreign funding of activity in Israel.

So why the silent treatment by the Times?

For starters, many of the very same NIF-supported NGO’s under fire for allegedly helping fuel the Goldstone calumnies against Israel are also preferred news sources of the Times, quoted regularly as reliable critics of Israeli society. B’Tselem and Yesh Din, for instance, are favorites, together cited at least 25 times in the last two years, typically charging the Israel Defense Forces or other official bodies with misconduct, and sometimes prompting entire stories focused on the NGO charges.

Gisha, another NIF grantee, has been invoked at least 10 times in the same period as an objective organization demanding “free movement” for Palestinians. Gisha allegations have triggered front page, multi-story coverage.

HaMoked, yet another New Israel Fund-financed NGO, has been cited by the Times denouncing Israel for its handling of residency issues for Palestinians. Still another, Bimkom, has appeared in the Times blasting Israel for the effects on Palestinians of the separation barrier. Two more favored by both the Times and NIF are Physicians for Human Rights and the Association for Civil Rights in Israel. The newspaper has cited the former assailing the Israeli military for ethics violations, the latter deploring alleged discrimination in traveling the roads. One more NGO that enjoys both the support of the NIF and the confidence of the Times is Breaking the Silence, which alleges abuses of Palestinians by soldiers.

The claims of all these groups are tainted by ideological bias and factual distortion. As Ha’aretz’s military correspondent notes with regard to Breaking the Silence, “Any organization whose Web site includes the claim by members to expose the ‘corruption which permeates the military system’ is not a neutral observer.” Indicative of the disregard for fairness and objectivity, the soldier “testimonies” posted on its Web site include no dates and no specifics, but are anonymous charges the military cannot investigate – or refute.

B’Tselem, created to “change Israeli policy in the occupied territories” and to monitor treatment of Palestinians there, has produced strikingly skewed and false categorizing of Palestinian casualties. The group has included terrorists such as Abdul Salaam Sadek Hassouneh, who murdered six at a Bat Mitzvah celebration in 2002, as “civilians” killed by Israel. Similar distortions minimizing violence against Israelis color much of B’Tselem’s work.

Gisha pursues legal measures against Israel charging “segregation” and has signed ads alleging Israel is an apartheid regime. Its reports minimize or ignore entirely the threats against Israel.

And so it goes with all the groups.

Yet the Times promotes their message and their standing, presenting them as mainstream, credible, worthy sources. Indeed, the paper avoids identifying their political hue, which is uniformly well to the left, if not radical. In Times parlance, they are merely Israeli “human rights groups.” Only once, for example, was any tagged correctly as an “Israeli leftist advocacy group” – and this not in a news story, but a summary brief. Perhaps accidentally.

Nor is this pattern regarding political labels applied consistently across the political spectrum. For example, on the few occasions when the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs has been quoted, the think tank has repeatedly been termed “conservative.”

Given all this, the absence of attention to the NIF-Goldstone connection is unsurprising, if journalistically indefensible.

The New Israel Fund must, moreover, be grateful for the Times silence; its American donors generally believe they contribute to the betterment of life for rape victims and battered women, for the enhancement of the environment and the strengthening of Israeli education. Most would not likely be happy learning NIF-funded publications had a hand in the Goldstone Report and smear Israel as an apartheid regime.

Most would probably not be contributors if they knew that, according to NGO-Monitor’s Anne Herzberg, there are NIF-funded groups that “demonize Israel at the UN, support boycott and divestment campaigns, promote ‘lawfare’ cases against Israeli officials and even advocate erasing the Jewish character of the state.”

Regrettably, the paper’s affinity for NIF-funded groups that blame Israel for the conflict and related problems is matched by its lack of attention to the genocidal demonizing of Israel in Palestinian society and the wider Arab world. Unmentioned in its pages, for instance, was a recent translation from Arabic by MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute) of yet another screed by a Muslim preacher in Nablus who calls Jews Nazis, exhorts his flock to kill all Jews and says:

Palestine was subjected to a loathsome occupation of its land and holy places by these neo-Mongols, who perpetrated, on this holy, blessed, and pure land, acts of killing, assassination, destruction, expropriation, Judaization, harassment, and the fragmentation of the homeland. (January 29, 2010)

In fact, a number of NIF groups would agree with much of what the preacher at the Bourin mosque had to say. But that only underscores the need for serious investigation of the New Israel Fund and the many politically extreme grantees enjoying millions of dollars of its largesse.

It underscores too the question about the news judgement of the Times, which has drifted increasingly away from objective reporting on Israel, has promoted its defamers, and continues to ignore the onslaught of Palestinian and broader Arab anti-Israel and anti-Jewish hate indoctrination.

The anti-Israel organization shares Hamas' dream for Israel's future.

When it was reported that the New Israel Fund (NIF) was paying around $8 million to organizations that provided the Goldstone Report with all of its condemnations of Israel, it became clear that the “New Israel” desired by the New Israel Fund is one with more than 9 years of consistent rocket fire.

Our organization, Sderot Media Center (SMC), with a yearly budget of close to $200,000, worked tirelessly on a formal report that was requested by the Goldstone Commission itself, which encompassed the impact of the rocket fire on the residents of the Sderot region. We sent this formal report accompanied by photographs and videos to depict to this UN committee, which did not visit Sderot, what it is like to live under either daily rocket fire or the threat of daily rocket fire over the course of then eight years. The Goldstone Committee then flew our director, Noam Bedein, to the UN Headquarters in Geneva to give a 30-minute presentation/testimony in front of the committee on this daily reality lived in Sderot.

The New Israel Fund paid around $8 million to organizations that provided information to the Goldstone Report. As a cited provider of information for the Goldstone Report, I guess our New Israel Fund check got lost in the mail.

As the only organization providing the human story of the near decade of rocket fire on Israeli men, women and children, the NIF clearly had no intention of helping sponsor our work.

A clear majority of the organizations mentioned in the Goldstone Report, 77%, are organizations that were paid by the NIF. Amongst those organizations, an overwhelming majority of the ones that were in favor of the report, 92%, are organizations that were paid by the NIF.

The New Israel Fund, an organization that supposedly prides itself on democracy and human rights, “We fight inequality, injustice and extremism because we understand that justice is the precondition for a successful democracy,” as defined in their “About Us” — strategically and financially ignores the human rights of Sderot men, women, and children that have endured this rocket lifestyle since 2001. The one organization located in Sderot that was paid by the NIF was an organization called the Other Voice — that led a bike ride from Sderot to the Gaza border. Apparently, organizations in Sderot are only worth NIF money if they are speaking out for Gaza residents and riding a bike.

The head of the NIF, Naomi Chazan, has led the response to this Im Tirtzu report by touting terms like “democracy” to describe what she is supporting, and “fascists” is what she has called those who criticize the NIF. A well educated professor like herself should know that democracy is not achieved by Hamas viciously controlling a prisoner population and using them as shields from a sovereign army and paying the UN to enable Hamas to further persevere doesn’t help. A democracy does not put over 100,000 Gaza children through summer military training camps. So, in attempting to bring down the only democracy in the world with international war crimes, Chazan hopes to create her “New Israel” democracy where Hamas can cause the death of more of their children, train more of them to fight Jews, and freely fire rockets at neighboring Israeli children.

A well educated professor like herself, Chazan should know that calling people and organizations that criticize the NIF “fascists” is embarrassingly hypocritical — while she pays and supports the ongoing actions of terrorists who use their own civilians to target other civilians. The Sderot Media Center criticizes the NIF and Naomi Chazan. So are we that risk our lives day-in and day-out to show the world that rockets are targeting civilians, and whom the popular liberal newspaper Haaretz described as a “tiny organization that fights to make Sderot’s voice heard” — are we fascists? Our center runs a therapeutic drama program, in which traumatized high school girls share and express themselves with psychology professionals. Are these traumatized Sderot girls fascists?

If one reads the report put out by Im Tirtzu about the NIF paying for 77% of the Israeli condemning UN Goldstone Report, one will see how NIF paid more than half a million dollars to Physicians For Human Rights-Israel to send an Israeli condemning report to the Goldstone Committee that completely ignored the over 9,000 psychological patients in Sderot. This is just one example of the strategic financing of biased information that shaped the Goldstone Report.

If the public and donors of the New Israel Fund allow this organization to continue, it will be an upside-down “New Israel” where girls expressing their trauma are considered fascists and a democracy is where children are put through terrorist training and used as human shields.

I guess, along with an invitation to last week’s Islamic Revolution anniversary rally in Teheran, our New Israel Fund check got lost in the mail.
