If it’s a day ending in “y,” that means it’s time for more crappy political advice from the Daily Beast’s Peter Beinart. Beinart’s kind of a one-trick pony on the subject—I’ve noted before how, no matter the situation, he advises Republicans not to govern like conservatives lest they face certain electoral doom (the right electoral strategy, coincidentally, happens to be to govern exactly like Peter Beinart would).
It’s official: Solicitor General Elena Kagan is President Barack Obama’s second nominee to the US Supreme Court. Today on the Daily Beast, Peter Beinart revisits Kagan’s anti-military zealotry over “don’t ask, don’t tell”—unsurprisingly, it doesn’t bother him enough to oppose her confirmation (though he does offer an intriguing nugget about administration allies offering to help [...]
It looks like we need another refresher on what to look for in a potential Supreme Court justice. At the Daily Beast, Peter Beinart has stumbled upon the idea that what Barack Obama really needs to do is nominate a mother:
First, because female justices, on average, will be more sensitive to the problems women face. [...]
So it was a welcome email I received from a friend the other day containing an Iraq News Network interview with British Laborite, progressive, Saddam ally and hero of such letwing websites as Counterpunch.org and CommonDreams.org, which should settle once and for all whether there are large numbers of pro-terrorist leftists [...]
“Don’t spend money you don’t have” and “distinguish between essentials and frills” are lessons just about everybody learns at some point in their lives, whether from a basic economics course or from one’s parents explaining that a credit card is not magic.
Why, then, can’t Congress and the White House figure it out?
At the Daily Beast, [...]
Hot off the heels of his brilliant case against considering the War on Terror a “war,” the Daily Beast’s Peter Beinart argues against conservative calls for racial & religious profiling in the wake of the attempted Christmas Day terrorist attack, since profiling is “not only ugly, but counterproductive”:
With Pavlovian predictability, right wing pundits greet terror [...]
For al Qaeda and other terrorists across the globe, Obama is the gift that just keeps on giving. The fanatical Muslim terrorists who are intent on wiping out every man woman and child that doesn’t accept Allah as God was just handed another victory by the President of the United States.
In response [...]
If you’re trying to kill large numbers of people who are trying to kill you en masse, most people would correctly identify this situation as a war. President Barack Obama knows this, which is why he bristled at former Vice President Dick Cheney’s recent claims that he doesn’t treat our counterterror efforts like a war [...]
The goals were narrow, and delivered without regard to America’s moral obligation to Afghanistan. Peter Beinart on Obama’s missed opportunity. The best that can be said about President Obama’s West Point speech is that it was civil. Obama did not accuse opponents of the Afghan surge of appeasement; he did not imply that he has a […]
