A dark past revived under America's Radical-in-Chief.

In 2007, then-Senator Barack Obama signified that he represented a sea-change in the nature of American politics. Obama proclaimed that as a member of the younger generation — born in 1961, at the tail end of the baby boom — he no longer wanted to participate in the stale and tired politics of the 1960s. Instead, he wanted to thrust America forward into a “different kind of politics,” one beyond the “psychodrama of the baby-boom generation — a tale rooted in old grudges and revenge plots hatched on a handful of college campuses long ago — played out on the national stage.”

Like most of what President Obama said, this turned out to be a lie. President Obama isn’t merely a reflection of 1960s politics. He represents a return to those ugly politics: the nastiness of anti-cop sentiment, the divisiveness of generalized anti-Western foreign policy, the idiocy of a war between the sexes and against the exclusivity of the traditional family structure. President Obama isn’t representative of a new breed. He is the child of the 1960s politics he once claimed to abhor.

Those politics, at least, had the excuse of an uglier America — one fresh with the wounds of Jim Crow, the sins of sexism, the controversy of Vietnam. Today’s 1960s reruns seem wildly out of context. But that’s the point: For the radicals of the 1960s, just as for the establishment Obamaites of today, context simply does not matter. When you are attempting to craft utopia, context is irrelevant — and human beings become either tools or obstacles toward the creation of that utopia. The vision never changes. Only the calendar does.

And so we’re watching racial tensions on a scale unseen since the 1970s play out across America — with the support of the political establishment. The images of police officers turning their backs on New York Mayor Bill De Blasio mirror the images of officers booing New York Mayor John Lindsay in 1972 at the funeral of Officer Rocco Laurie.

The images of rioters burning down Ferguson mirror the images of rioters burning down Detroit in 1967. Never mind that America of 2014 is not the America of 1967 or 1972 — if Obama and his allies have to recreate that chaotic era to forward their own political ends, they will.

We’re watching the foreign policy of the hard-left McGovernites re-establish itself, this time from the Oval Office. The images of Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., railing against the CIA on the floor of the Senate over the CIA’s use of enhanced interrogation techniques mirror the images of Senator Mark Hatfield, R-Ore., railing against the American military in the aftermath of the Winter Soldier hearings of 1971. The images of the Yazidis starving on mountaintops in Iraq mirror the images of Vietnamese rushing onto boats to escape the horrors of the communists in the aftermath of the Vietnam War.

We’re watching the divisive domestic politics of the social radicals reassert themselves. The images of failed Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis standing in pink sneakers to list the glories of late-term abortion mirror the images of Gloria Steinem blathering about “reproductive freedom” in 1971. The images of Nancy Pelosi touting freedom from “job lock” thanks to Obamacare mirror the images of President Johnson effectively doing the same thanks to the war on poverty.

President Obama and his ilk quest for a return to hopier, changier times — times like the 1960s. And so they will take us all back to the future. Sadly, our future will then be no more than a reversion to insanity of our past.

Misinformation that kills.

Recently, I claimed that everyone—politicians, academics, and media commentators—who promoted the idea that police brutality is a national “epidemic,” or even a “growing concern,” as one self-styled libertarian put it, share some culpability for the murders of the two NYPD officers who were gunned down in their vehicle right before Christmas.

More specifically, they are responsible, obviously, not for intending or consciously encouraging the murder of police, but for creating a climate for police officers that’s even more hostile than that in which officers must spend their days and nights. After all, we don’t need Richard Weaver to inform us that “ideas have consequences.” Even simpletons and liars will concede this much.

And only simpletons and liars can deny that this idea—the idea of a “pandemic” of police brutality sweeping the nation—has the consequence of endangering police officers.

Yet this idea isn’t just dangerous.

It is also a lie. And it is a huge lie at that.

“Police brutality” is an all-purpose piece of rhetoric that, as such, can mean anything and everything—and, thus, nothing at all. When anti-police misologists—a “misologist” was the word that the 18th century philosopher Immanuel Kant used when referring to an enemy of reason—sound off about “police brutality,” they are referring to the police’s unjustified use of force.

Now, all but anarchists concede that police are authorized to use force when necessary and when it’s proportionate to the situation in question. When, however, the force deployed is unnecessary and/or excessive, then the force is unjustified. This—the unnecessary and/or excessive use of force—is “police brutality.”

So, is this a growing national phenomenon, an epidemic?

Not even close.

According to the Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), in 1999, of 44 million people who had face-to-face interactions with police officers, less than one-half of one percent was “threatened with or actually experienced force.”

Notice, the assertion here isn’t that less than one-half of one percent—it bears repeating: one-half of one percent!—was subjected to the use of unjustified force; the claim is that of 44 million, this miniscule fraction of people were either threatened with—threatened with—or subjected to the use of force per se.

What this in turn means is that the number of people who were “brutalized” by police is even smaller than “less than one-half of one percent.”

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics’ Police-Public Contact Survey (PPCS), of a national population estimate of roughly 240, 000,000 comprised of people of 16 years of age or older, of those who dealt with the police in some capacity in 2002, 2005, and 2008, 1.5%, 1.6%, and 1.4%, respectively, were either threatened with or subjected to force by the police.

In 2008, 22% of those falling into the latter group admitted that they “argued with, cursed at, insulted, or verbally threatened the police.” Twelve percent reported that they were “disobeying” and/or “interfering” with police.

Of the 84% of people who felt that the threat or use of police use force was “improper,” only 14% filed a complaint.

To further underscore just what a whopper of a lie is the notion that “police brutality” is a nationwide epidemic, consider this: Among those included in the class of people who have had to deal with police are those who have called on the police for assistance. And among those who have done so, about 85 percent claimed to have been “satisfied with the police response.” Moreover—shocker of shockers!—Hispanics (86%) and blacks (85%) were slightly more satisfied than were whites (83%). Finally, about 90 percent of people who requested police assistance said that they would do so again.

Only in the fevered imagination of the cop-hating ideologue is “police brutality” a national crisis, or any sort of crisis.

Of course, none of this is to deny that there are bad cops. Genuinely abusive police officers, like those who abuse their power and authority anywhere, deserve to be crucified. But there is zero justification for abstracting from these relatively few instances a rule encompassing police officers generally.

Numbers aside, just some rudimentary common sense—a rare commodity nowadays, and practically nonexistent among the police-hating ideologues—should determine that in this Age of the Camera—a time in which everyone and their mother is armed with surveillance apparatus—the police have no real option but to be better behaved than ever before.

Jeremy Bentham described the doctrine of “natural rights” as “nonsense on stilts.” The dogma—and make no mistakes about it, for the anti-police misologists, this is nothing less than a dogma—that “police brutality” is an epidemic, a crisis, blah, blah, blah, is indeed nonsense on stilts. But it is more than this: It is nonsense that kills.

The soldier of civilization fighting to keep it alive.

As we sit here in our homes with our families and loved ones around us, tens of thousands of children wonder if their parents will come home tonight.

Their fathers and mothers aren’t stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan. They’re on duty in places like Englewood in Chicago where there are 2 violent crimes for every 1,000 people in one month, Columbus Square in St. Louis or Bedford-Stuyvesant in New York City where two police officers were just murdered.

The men and women of law enforcement are on the front lines of the war at home. From the mugger on the block to the terrorist on the hijacked plane, they are the first ones there.

41 law enforcement officers were shot and killed in 2014. That’s in line with the number of Americans killed by hostile fire in Afghanistan. There’s a reason that Chicago has been nicknamed Chiraq. Some parts of the country are a war zone and after the latest shooting of two police officers in New York City, a statement circulating among cops states that the NYPD has become a “wartime police department.”

The war at home has been going on for a long time and by some accounts has claimed the lives of 20,000 law enforcement officers. Since 2001, more than 700 officers have been killed by gunfire. During the Gulf War, more officers were killed on the streets of American cities than in combat against Saddam.

Even as the murders of NYPD cops Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu fill the news, Officer Charlie Kondek has been shot while pursuing a suspect in Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Officer Kondek had been a former member of the NYPD. He leaves behind five children. His killer, Marco Antonio Parilla Jr, had been repeatedly arrested for the possession and sale of cocaine before being released just this August. Officer Kondek and his children paid the ultimate price for his release.

All three police officers were casualties in the war against human evil that never ends. It’s an even dirtier and more unglamorous war than Iraq or Afghanistan. And police officers are hated in a way that it’s still socially unacceptable to hate soldiers. Ramos and Liu were the latest casualties of that hatred.

The police officer is the handyman of the welfare state. His job is to put his life on the line to plug the social leaks that the sociologists, consultants and social planners who made this mess had not foreseen. It’s his job to be there for a domestic violence complaint in a Florida motel at two in the morning or a failure of multiculturalism between two warring gangs in Oakland. He goes to places that the politicians don’t like to think about and deals with issues that the welfare state created and walked away from.

Progressives don’t believe in evil. It’s the beat cop who has to believe in it and clean it up.

The planners and politicians who allocate funds for new housing projects don’t have to patrol them at night. They don’t have to walk down a narrow concrete block hallway lined with dirty doors any of which can open at any minute with a gun behind it. The drug sentencing reformers have never had to carry a deranged screaming figure through the rusting doors of an emergency room. They have never had to get their soft shoes dirty walking through puddles of blood in an alleyway.

When liberalism fails, it’s the cop who gets the call. And when he does get the call, it’s the liberals who will be the first to call for his head.

It’s not enough that the cop has to clean up for the welfare state. He also has to be its scapegoat.

The chants of “Black lives matter” aren’t aimed at the gangs and drug dealers who rack up an astronomical number of black deaths; it’s aimed at the cops who put their lives on the line saving black lives. It’s the very people whose messes they clean up who hate them the most.

The police officer has come to embody America, abroad and at home, the nation that risks its lives to free peoples only to be despised for it, the nation that extends every benefit and privilege to its own criminals only to be shot and stabbed, raped and robbed for its endless generosity.

The American police officer was never supposed to be venturing into neighborhoods where no one speaks English and the locals see him as a member of an occupying army or patrolling in communities where gang members number in the thousands and could take down the entire local police force.

He was never supposed to be a social worker, a mediator, a medic and the commander of an invading army negotiating truces and treaties with the local tribes. And yet he is expected to be all these things and more. Every time he goes out he knows that he may face a choice between his life and his career.

If cops seem touchy, isolated or out of control it’s because they have been left hanging by a system that uses them to dam up the breakdown of a society without ever acknowledging that this is their job. Many urban police officers operate in environments where crime is not an aberration, but the norm. Like the American soldier, the police officer is better trained and more effective than ever before, but like the soldier he is also haunted by the sense that his work and his sacrifices are futile and unappreciated.

The police officer isn’t spending years in Iraq or Afghanistan; he’s spending decades in Chiraq. When his time ends, there will be no victory parades. Just the knowledge that he tried to make a difference and that unlike many brother officers, at least he made it to retirement.

Officer Daryl Pierson was shot and killed leaving behind a wife and two young children. Pierson had been an experienced officer. His killer, Thomas Johnson III, had been paroled after serving three years for an attempted armed robbery.

Officer Justin Winebrenner tried to get Kenan Ivery to leave a bar. Ivery drew a gun and shot and killed him. Officer Winebrenner was a second generation police officer. He left behind a 4-year-old daughter.

Officer Perry Renn responded to shots being fired and encountered Major Davis Jr. who was carrying a semi-automatic rifle. Davis Jr. had an extensive criminal record. He fired killing Officer Renn who had survived twenty-two years on the force.

Patrolman Jeffery Westerfield responded to a fight between Carl Le’Ellis Blount Jr. and his girlfriend. He never even got a chance to draw his gun or leave his squad car before Blount shot him in the head.

Deputy Sheriff Allen Bares was off duty when he saw a gold Lexus crash into a ditch. He approached the vehicle and was shot and killed. The two men inside, Quintylan Richard and Baylon Taylor, stole his truck and took off.

The police officers in all these cases were white. Their killers were black. But the police officers in many of these cases were trying to protect black people and black communities.

The killings all took place in a matter of months in 2014. And their numbers will only continue to grow.

While the wars abroad expand or contract, this is the war that will go on. Its soldiers will serve their tours of duty for decades on the streets of our own cities without having anywhere else to go home to. And when their time is up, they will never receive the thanks that they deserve because most of us will never understand the difference that they made.

When the left took over, it was the police officer who kept everything from going under in our major cities. It was not the politician or the planner, the sociologist or the social worker who kept the crime and chaos from sweeping everything away. It was the man in blue who did what had to be done.

Under Obama, when the criminal is king and the progressive planners are changing the country in ways unprecedented since the seventies, it’s still the lonely figure in the squad car that does his duty and holds the line in a thousand dark and dirty neighborhoods where gunshots and screams sound in the night. The American police officer has become the soldier of civilization fighting to keep it alive.

And somewhere a family wonders if their father or mother will come home tonight.

After spending the past year in office attacking police, the mayor is now scrambling to put the pin back into the grenade he threw into the local body politic. His crusade against the police goes back at least to his election campaign last year when he caustically criticized then-mayor Michael Bloomberg’s stop-and-frisk policy.

De Blasio is appealing for calm and for a temporary suspension of the ugly anti-police protests his incendiary rhetoric has spawned.

Strangely, this far-left radical who, like his ally in the White House never puts politics aside for the benefit of the community, is now asking New Yorkers to do precisely that.

So far the New York Police Department isn’t in a mood to forgive de Blasio who has teamed up with racial arsonist Al Sharpton to lay waste to what’s left of civil society in the Big Apple. Before the two murders Sharpton had been leading marches where the demonstrators chanted, “What do we want? Dead cops.” Taking cues from the Westboro Baptist Church, Sharpton followers showed up at one cop memorial service chanting and heckling the mourners.

NYPD union leaders have asked de Blasio to skip police funerals and a large gathering of cops turned their backs on the mayor as he showed up Saturday at the Brooklyn hospital where the lifeless bodies of officers Rafael Ramos, 40, and Wenjian Liu, 32, had been taken after they were shot dead by an adherent of the Religion of Peace.

The shooter, Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley, was a Muslim apparently upset at what he believed were the racist killings of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. and Eric Garner in Staten Island. He indicated he was planning to kill “pigs,” and as Robert Spencer notes, “Brinsley’s Facebook page featured a photo of the Qur’an open to the eighth chapter, where Allah exhorts the believers to ‘strike terror into the hearts of the enemies of Allah‘ (8:60).“

Since de Blasio was sworn in last New Year’s Day, New Yorkers have, in fits and starts, begun to realize that they elected a dangerously erratic Sandinista-loving radical as mayor. Although de Blasio’s reaction to the cop murders strikes many in the punditry as incompetent, they are being charitable. De Blasio’s behavior reflects his pathological, hateful, profoundly anti-American ideology. He can’t conceal his contempt for those whose job it is to promote law and order.

This is what happens when a small-c communist becomes mayor of the nation’s greatest metropolis.

Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, who helped turn New York from a crime-infested urban jungle into the relatively crime-free city his successors inherited, said it was “shameful” for politicians to drive a wedge between police and the communities they serve.

“Police misconduct is a minor part of the problem. Community, serious violent crime is a much bigger part of the problem,” Giuliani said.

“The people who are saving black lives in the city are [you] the New York City Police Department. I’m not doing it. President Obama’s not doing it. Mayor De Blasio’s not doing it. He’s not out at night walking down housing developments and trying to save children from being killed. Police officers are doing the most, right now, in these very very poor communities and sometimes they’re white communities, but where there are black communities and police officers are doing the most to save the children that are at greatest risk. The politicians with this propaganda separating the community from the police, are doing something that’s shameful and they have to stop doing that. The vast majority of police want to help and the politicians’ rhetoric should reflect the truth, not propaganda.”

But de Blasio isn’t anything like Giuliani or even like Bloomberg, his immediate predecessor, a micromanaging Big Gulp-grabber who now seems like an exemplar of common sense compared to the current mayor.

De Blasio is in many ways President Obama’s “mini me,” except unlike Obama, he has loud critics in the media who for the most part has not been giving him a free ride.

But de Blasio hasn’t generated all of this racial hostility and antipathy toward cops on his own. He’s had a lot of help from President Obama who has been trying to kickstart a wave of civil unrest since even before he took office. The president’s policy of trying to foment violent civil unrest is finally paying dividends.

Attacking the police, as Obama has been doing for years, isn’t exactly a courageous act. The police are easy targets for leftist agitators. Riling up minorities over real and imagined abuses is child’s play. Even Al Sharpton can do it.

On the 2008 campaign trail, the president belittled small town Americans, implying they were racist, a time-honored leftist smear of conservatives. “And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.“

Not too long after his inauguration in 2009 the new president mocked Cambridge, Mass. police by saying they “acted stupidly” by arresting Obama’s close personal friend, black liberal academic Henry Louis Gates Jr. This led to the seemingly pointless public relations event known as the so-called beer summit between James Crowley (the arresting officer), Gates, and Obama. There was never any evidence that Gates’s arrest had anything to do with his skin color. Arrester and arrestee agreed to disagree yet Obama succeeded in scoring points with his radical base.

Campaigning in 2010, Obama demonized non-Latinos.

“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies, and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us’ — if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election — then I think it’s going to be harder. And that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2nd.”

The same year he invoked Rosa Parks and segregation in order to ridicule Republicans. “We don’t mind the Republicans joining us,” Obama told the faithful. “They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back.”

In 2012 he needlessly inserted race into the Trayvon Martin saga by saying, “if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.“ Although the shooter who was eventually acquitted, so-called white Hispanic George Zimmerman, wasn’t a police officer, he was an authority figure of sorts as a neighborhood watch volunteer.

Working with Sharpton, the Obama administration sicced the left-wing community organizers of the Justice Department’s Community Relations Service (CRS) on the unsuspecting people of Sanford, Fla. after the death of Martin. Evidence established that Martin attacked Zimmerman, who avoided legal liability because he acted in self-defense.

Even after the acquittal Obama insisted on meddling. He said that “Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago,” and gave yet another lecture on race.

Obama vigorously milked the August death of Michael Brown at the hands of white Ferguson, Mo. police officer Darren Wilson.

Brown, an 18-year-old black male, was killed after he beat Wilson and tried to grab his handgun. Brown’s defenders characterize him as a gentle giant even though a few minutes earlier he was captured on video committing a strong-arm robbery at a convenience store, roughing up a much smaller clerk in the process.
Obama dishonored his country by giving a speech at the United Nations citing Brown’s killing as something Americans should be ashamed of. After the grand jury refused to indict Wilson, Obama ramped up his rhetoric, claiming that racism is deeply rooted in American society.

A major difference between de Blasio and Obama is that the mayor doesn’t have the president’s silver tongue. Serious calls for de Blasio’s ouster are now coming from civic leaders throughout New York.

But don’t hold your breath waiting for de Blasio to resign. Radical leftists rarely give up power without a fight.

The Leftist and Islamic supremacist demonization of the police bears bitter fruit.

When Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley murdered NYPD Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu as they ate lunch in their patrol car last Saturday, the only people who could possibly have been surprised were those who have not realized how assiduously Leftist and Muslim activists have worked – long before the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner — to demonize the NYPD and law enforcement in general. The advent of the killer was only a matter of time.

It has been only lightly reported that Brinsley was a Muslim, and generally when it has been mentioned, it has been dismissed as a motive in favor of his statements about wanting to kill police officers to avenge Garner and Brown. But these two motivations – revenge for the perceived racist killings of two black men and Brinsley’s Islamic faith – are not mutually exclusive. Brinsley’s Facebook page featured a photo of the Qur’an open to the eighth chapter, where Allah exhorts the believers to “strike terror into the hearts of the enemies of Allah” (8:60).

Brinsley may have thought, what better way to strike terror into the hearts of the enemies of Allah than to kill a couple of infidel, racist police officers? Investigative journalist Patrick Poole found an additional sign of Brinsley’s attachment to Islam on his Facebook page, where Brinsley wrote at one point that he was heading to “Al-Farooq Tomorrow inshallah.” Poole notes: “If this reference by the cop killer was from Brooklyn (which is hard to discern since his Instagram account has been taken down), it may indicate that he was going to visit Masjid Al-Farooq in Brooklyn.”

Explains Poole:

Al-Farooq’s long history of terror support goes back more than 20 years, when the 1993 World Trade Center bombing was hatched by members. One imam from the early 1990s, when Al-Farooq was a hub of the nascent Al-Qaeda and was hosting Al-Qaeda co-founder Abdullah Azzam, was Fawaz Damra, who was charged, convicted and later deported for lying to immigration officials about his terror ties when he applied for U.S. citizenship.

Meanwhile, Muslim activists in New York City – with willing help from their Leftist allies — have long cultivated a sense of grievance, claiming that they have been unfairly singled out for NYPD surveillance and monitoring. At an October 2011 hearing about the New York Police Department’s counter-terror activities in Muslim areas, New York City Councilman Brad Lander asserted: “It looks like we are targeting Muslim neighborhoods and communities. That’s not good for us. We have people out there who are partners who feel the trust is betrayed.”

New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly defended the NYPD programs, saying, “What we’re doing is following leads.” His critics were not mollified. In February 2012, Muslims in New York held a massive protest against the NYPD. Many protesters were holding printed signs with slogans designed to enhance Muslims’ feelings that they had been targets of NYPD prejudice and discrimination: “FIRE Ray Kelly!”; “Stop NYPD Ethnic, Racial and Religious Profiling”; “Stop Entrapment and Surveillance Without Warrants”; “Muslims Demand Equal Rights”; and “NO to a Police State!” A handwritten sign held by a woman in a hijab foreshadowed the charges widely made against the NYPD after the death of Eric Garner: “GOOD BYE RACIST RAY!”

“Racist Ray”’s days were numbered in October 2013, when, according to CBS NewYork, “Democratic mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio told a group of Muslim supporters Wednesday that they won’t have to live in fear of being under constant surveillance if he’s elected mayor.” Linda Sarsour, head of the Muslim Democratic Club, was pleased: “People are tired of a mayor,” she asserted, “that unequivocally stands behind the (police) commissioner and says that everything we’re doing is right.”

De Blasio warmly embraced Sarsour, which in itself was telling, as Sarsour is a rabidly anti-Semitic Islamic supremacist who has said that “nothing is creepier than Zionism” and equated it with “racism.” She is also a frequent visitor to the Obama White House, and has claimed that the jihad underwear bomber was a CIA agent — part of what she claims is a U.S. war against Islam. She is a practiced exploiter of the “hate” smear against foes of jihad terror and Islamic supremacism, and has never apologized for using the Islamic honor murder of Shaima Alawadi to spread lies about the prevalence of hate crimes against Muslims in America.

When he became Mayor, de Blasio moved swiftly, dismantling the legal NYPD Muslim surveillance program in April 2014 – thereby validating the Muslim activists’ claims that the program was racist, discriminatory and unjust. But the end of this program did not end the Muslim and Leftist sense of grievance, which was only fueled by the Brown and Garner incidents. Leftist and Muslim groups continued to fuel the perception that police were “racist” and “Islamophobic.”

The Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has repeatedly exhorted Muslims to contact a lawyer and the nearest CAIR office if contacted by the FBI, and to “Know Your Rights” and say as little as possible. CAIR would, of course, hotly deny that they have given this advice to Muslims to protect those engaged in terror activity from detection and prosecution, but then the only other alternative is that CAIR wants Muslims to believe that law enforcement officials are engaged in an ongoing campaign to entrap and persecute innocent Muslims.

That message, of course, coincides perfectly with that of race-baiters such as Al Sharpton, who have labored so long to foster among black Americans the same idea. In Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley, these dual and interrelated grievances came together, and two policemen are dead. There will be more.

Lynch mobs have consequences.

A lynch mob is all fun and games until someone actually gets lynched.

At first everyone has a good time marching around and shouting “Black Lives Matter” and “I Can’t Breathe.” The police are accused of being racist killers by the defenders of actual racist killers like Mumia Abu Jamal. Every community organizer within a thousand miles shows up to brandish signs claiming cops are randomly killing innocent black men even as he spits and throws bottles at any cop within reach. Not to mention engaging in the occasional act of convenience store redistribution.

The Mayor of New York City announces that his ridiculously famous son has to be afraid of the police. Obama agrees that his imaginary son also has to be afraid of the police. Their claims are equally plausible.

The lynch mobs make it their mission to invade holiday events, protest parades and scream racist rants. Then they begin attacking police officers. The media insists that protests whose participants chant, “What do we want? Dead cops!” are peaceful.

This homicidally insane definition of “peaceful” had only previously been applied to Islam.

And then, shockingly, surprisingly, out of the blue, protests led by Al Sharpton featuring violent attacks on cops finally achieve their goal with the murder of two police officers.

Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley announced on Instagram, “I’m Putting Wings On Pigs Today. They Take 1 Of Ours…Let’s Take 2 of Theirs.” #ShootThePolice #RIPErivGarner #RIPMike Brown.

It may have been the first murder that came with its own progressive social media hashtags.

But even the most violently peaceful lynch mobs eventually end with a lynching. There is no such thing as a peaceful lynch mob. There is no such thing as peacefully supporting a lynch mob.

Al Sharpton is not just an MSNBC talk show host. He isn’t a goofy fellow who mispronounces things on the teleprompter. He isn’t these things just as he wasn’t a funny fat man in a track suit wearing a gold medallion the size of the Bronx around his neck.

Those are the things that make him seem like a joke. And he isn’t a joke. He leads lynch mobs.

Sharpton led a lynch mob through Crown Heights and racist violence tore the neighborhood apart and took lives. He led a lynch mob to a store in Harlem and the store burned with employees inside.

That is what lynch mobs do.

Since then Sharpton slimmed down and swapped out colorful track suits for expensive custom made Soho pinstripe suits. He became a regular visitor to the White House and City Hall. He spoke at the Democratic National Convention and got a slot on that party’s favorite news network.

And then twenty years later he brought back the lynch mobs. And once again people died.

Two cops are dead in New York City because Barack Obama, Bill de Blasio and the Democratic Party embraced Sharpton and everything he stood for. They embraced his racist ideology of hate.

They made their party into the party of crime.

Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu weren’t white. Their only crime was being cops in a city whose radical left-wing mayor and media had signed off on an anti-cop campaign. Their deaths are a bloody reminder that black racism isn’t limited to white people.

The elites celebrating the return of left-wing rule to New York City after decades of Republicans in Gracie Mansion had forgotten the most important lesson that New Yorkers of all races had learned during the years of Sharpton’s terror; black racist lynch mobs kill as surely as white ones do.

Now Bill de Blasio is wiping away crocodile tears at a press conference while Al Sharpton and the gang of gutter activists that trails these protests is pretending to be shocked and surprised that their lynch mobs actually killed two cops. The same media that had been ridiculing the NYPD for its “hysterical” warnings that the racist lynch mobs would cost lives is also putting on its best shocked face for the cameras.

Sharpton is doing what he always does best: Playing provocateur and then trying to wash his hands of the consequences. Al never kills anyone. He just riles up the mob and someone in the mob does the dirty work. Al works the mob and through him the mob has a direct line to the White House.

When FDR put Hugo Black in the Supreme Court, he put the Klan on the Court. The Democratic Party’s hate groups and lynch mobs may have changed color, but everything else stayed the same.

When Obama made Sharpton his messenger to the black community, when Bill de Blasio let Sharpton and his people control city government and when Attorney General Eric Schneiderman promised that Sharpton would have an “annex” in the state capitol, the Democratic Party embraced the man whose racist rhetoric took more lives than the 1963 Birmingham church bombing.

The Democratic Party and its top politicians didn’t just endorse Sharpton. They endorsed his tactics and his hate. Now the blood of two murdered police officers is on their hands.

“The mayor’s hands are literally dripping with our blood because of his words, actions and policies,” the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association has said. “The blood of 2 executed police officers is on the hands of Mayor de Blasio,” is the message from the Sergeants Benevolent Association.

But Bill de Blasio did not act alone. He did what the rest of his party had gotten used to doing. The Democratic Party reverted to its roots of a party of crime. It forgot the lesson of the Willie Horton ad. It tested the waters by promoting “sentencing reform” for drug dealers and then it went all in by race-baiting the Michael Brown and Eric Garner cases. It was so enthused about recruiting community organizers and increasing black turnout that it forgot that lynch mobs don’t vote. They kill.

Suddenly the tactics that Sharpton had pioneered in his track suit days became the face of the Democratic Party. New Tawana Brawleys were crawling out from under every rock in the nation. Innocents senselessly attacked by vile cops whose stories turned out to be about as real as Sharpton’s tax records. Everyone was having fun telling lies and screaming hate and then cops began to die.

Now the Democratic Party’s top crooks are clumsily trying to wash away the cop blood on their hands.

Attorney General Eric Holder can’t headline Sharpton’s events and then pretend to be upset when two cops are killed. Neither can Bill de Blasio or Barack Obama. Their phony condemnations don’t come with a promise to abandon the pro-crime politics and policies that led to the murder of two police officers.

Targeting the police makes it difficult for the police to defend themselves or anyone else. When the police can’t defend themselves, then they pull back. When they pull back, crime takes off. Cities become terrifying places. The middle class flees. Thriving cities go bankrupt and become permanent welfare cases. They become Democratic Party plantations. That’s what Obama and De Blasio wanted.

There is one fundamental question that must be asked of Obama, of Holder, of de Blasio and the media; are we a nation of laws or a nation of lynch mobs?

Obama claimed that the racist protests were needed because a “country’s conscience has to be triggered by some inconvenience.” Attorney General Eric Holder said that the protests provided “momentum to a necessary conversation.”

Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley concluded Holder’s conversation by reminding us of what the stakes are.

We cannot function as a nation when a political party representing half the country decides that it wants to stand with criminals against police officers, with racists and race-baiters against working families and with lynch mobs against anyone who gets in their way.

It’s not only the blood of these two police officers that is on their hands, but the blood of every victim of crime who could have been saved if the Democratic Party had not embraced gun control, sentencing reform and criminal rights.

After Dukakis got thumped and Dinkins got dumped, the Democratic Party pretended to reform. It pretended to understand that Americans wanted it to stand with cops, not criminals.

Now it’s back to its criminal ways.

Lynch mobs have consequences. So do crack dealers, serial rapists and armed robbers. Standing up to crime also means standing up to politicians who support crime.

What the statistics really say.

In an era where public debate is replete with Big Lies, we are routinely treated to examples of shallow, insipid journalism dedicated to propping up the most nonsensical fictions imaginable. A case in point is a piece that appeared in the far-left periodical Mother Jones, titled “Exactly How Often Do Police Shoot Unarmed Black Men?” Purporting to explain the root causes of the racial unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, the article’s author, Mother Jones editorial coordinator Jaeah Lee, presents a smattering of statistics—utterly devoid of context or analysis—as evidence that “the killing of Michael Brown by police … was no anomaly.”

For instance, Lee cites a 2007 study which found that in ten major cities “there were a disproportionately high number of African Americans among police shooting victims,” and another which concluded that “black people are more likely than whites or Hispanics to experience a police officer’s threat or use of force.” To buttress these allegations, the author quotes Missouri ACLU official Jeffrey Mittman’s lamentation that “unarmed African-American men are shot and killed by police at an alarming rate,” and NAACP president Cornell Williams Brooks’ claim that a destructive “culture of policing” is “rubbing salt into longstanding racial wounds” by targeting black people with “overwhelmingly major, often lethal … force.”

Apparently it never occurred to Ms. Lee, or to these other voices in her echo chamber, that there might be some significance in the fact that blacks, who are 13% of the U.S. population, themselves commit many more homicides than white and Hispanic perpetrators—combined. Young black males in particular commit homicide at nearly ten times the combined rate of their white and Hispanic counterparts. As Manhattan Institute scholar Heather Mac Donald explains, “That astronomically higher homicide-commission rate means that police officers are going to be disproportionately in black neighborhoods to fight crime, where they will more likely encounter armed shooting suspects.” Blacks nationwide are also dramatically overrepresented in the commission of other serious crimes such as rape, robbery, and assault—precisely the types of offenses most likely to trigger a confrontation with police that could result in a fatality.

In her Mother Jones piece, Ms. Lee devotes considerable attention to New York City, where “more black people have been shot by NYPD officers … than have Hispanics or whites.” But this begs an obvious question: “So what?” The same principle that applies to the United States as a whole, applies also to New York: While blacks constitute 23% of the city’s population, they commit two-thirds of all its violent crimes, including nearly 70% of all robberies and 80% of all shootings. And whites, who are 35% of the city’s population, commit just 5% of its violent crimes and a mere 1.8% of its shootings. Thus, blacks are statistically far more likely to be involved in volatile situations demanding police intervention. It’s really not very complicated.

The Mother Jones article also presents a chart with a racial breakdown of those who were shot and killed by New York City police between 2000 and 2011. Yet remarkably, the author makes no mention of the glaring fact that instances of police-on-Asian shootings are nearly invisible in this chart—indeed, blacks, Hispanics, and whites alike are far more likely than Asians to be shot in police encounters. What could explain this? If we were to apply Ms. Lee’s line of reasoning, we’d have no choice but to conclude that New York police officers, for some reason, feel less racial animus against Asians than they feel against everyone else. A more realistic explanation is that Asians in the city have very low crime rates and thus have comparatively little contact with police.

The most comprehensive information we have on the issue of police shootings and race in recent years comes from a 2011 Bureau of Justice Statistics study that covers the period from 2003 to 2009. Of all suspects who are known to have been killed by law-enforcement officers during that time frame, 41.7% were white, 31.7% were black, and 20.3% were Hispanic. Also during that period, blacks accounted for about 38.5% of all arrests for violent crimes—i.e., the types of crimes most likely to lead to a potentially fatal confrontation with police. These numbers do not in any way suggest a lack of restraint by police in their dealings with black suspects. On the contrary, they suggest the exact opposite.

Funny how the real world rarely conforms to the certainties of the race-obsessed Left, isn’t it?

Apparently the hatchet-wielding maniac who assaulted two New York City policemen in Queens had ambitions in addition to his twisted jihadist sympathies. Attacker Zale Thompson’s father told the New York Post that killing white people was also on would-be murderer’s agenda.

“He wanted white people to pay for all that slavery and all that racism,” said father Ralph Thompson. “I think he committed suicide — and he was taking one of y’all with him.” Asked if “one of y’all” referred to whites, Thompson answered in the affirmative. “He just said, ‘They have to pay for all their unfairness,’” the father explained. “Unfairness for the way they treat black people.”

Zale Thompson assaulted three white and one light-skinned Hispanic police officers while they posed for a photograph on Jamaica Avenue in Queens. White officers Kenneth Healey, 25, and Joseph Meeker, 24, were struck by the hatchet. Meeker was cut on the arm, and rookie cop Healey was struck on the back of his skull, nearly killing him. The other two officers on the scene shot Thompson dead. Sadly, innocent bystander LaToya Jones, 29, was also shot and might be paralyzed.

Thompson’s 2013 comment on Google+ revealed the animus to which his father referred. “It’s ok for white people to draw pictures of a white jesus, and then colonize Africa, and enslave the negro in America, wipe out the native American, and invade the middle east,” he wrote. “They call black people racist for rejecting the oppression they suffered from whites. Listen, when black people have colonized the entire continent of Europe, enslaved its people, and sold them into bondage to foreign lands, then you can call them racist.”

Additional comments were uncovered by the SITE Intelligence Group, an entity that monitors extremist activity. On Facebook and YouTube, Thompson characterized Christians as “aggressive and violent” and chastised the “Christianized Negro” for adhering to the faith “his slave master gave him.” He was apparently the commenter named Zale Thompson who also offered his opinion on a YouTube video entitled, “Uprise of the Khilafah (Caliphate) World Wide”:

There were additional comments on his Facebook page, one that that featured a man dressed as a Muslim warrior taken from the cover of a book entitled “Golden Age of the Moor,” and contained Arabic writing from the Quran that spoke to following “the straight path” through Allah.

They were equally incendiary. “The solution is to fight. Armed struggle. Simple,” he wrote, before advocating all-out guerrilla warfare on the streets of America. “America’s military is strong abroad, but they have never faced an internal mass revolt. … They are weaker at home. We are scattered and decentralized, we can use this as an advantage. They will not be able to defeat our people if we use guerilla warfare. Attack their weak flanks… If you get wounded who cares. If you die who cares. Eventually they will surrender and then the war will be over.”

After Thompson was identified as the attacker last Friday, the page was taken down.

If Thompson’s rant sounds familiar, perhaps it’s because it is a virtual echo of two Islamic extremist statements published on September 16 and 21. The first statement, entitled “To 2.6M Muslims in USA: A Call to Arms to Defend Islam and Avenge the Slaughter of Muslims” called for the killing of law enforcement officials. “Knocking off a police, military or any other law-enforcement officer sends a chilling message to the so-called ‘civilians’ and fills their hearts with consternation,” it declares.

The second statement is by ISIS spokesman Aub Mohammad al-Adnani. “Strike their police, security and intelligence members, as well as their treacherous agents,” he urges. “If you are not able to find an IED or a bullet, then single out the disbelieving American, Frenchman, or any of their allies. Smash his head with a rock, or slaughter him with a knife, or run him over with your car, or throw him down from a high place, or choke him or poison him.”

Police have been searching back as far as five years to determine if anyone Thompson communicated with was a threat. A law enforcement source explained why. “This guy spent every waking moment on the Internet,” the source stated. Subsequent reports revealed much of that Internet time was spent watching ISIS beheading videos, along with propaganda and recruitment videos from terrorist groups ISIS, al Qaeda and al-Shabaab.

Thompson had no criminal record in New York, but was arrested six times in the city of Oxnard, CA, and pleaded guilty for leaving the scene of an accident in 2003. That was the same year Thompson was involuntarily discharged after serving two years in the Navy, possibly because of drug use, according to investigation leader Chief Robert K. Boyce. He spent the last decade “adrift” according to the New York Times, and after he was evicted from his East New York, Brooklyn apartment in January, he alternated crashing with his mother and father, who lived a short distance from each other in Queens.

Unsurprisingly, his attack was supported by head of the local New Black Panther Party (NBPP) where Thompson attended meetings. Queens chapter leader Frank Sha Francois referred to Thompson as “a crusader seeking justice,” and he warned of additional attacks that are likely to arise. “It probably won’t be the last [attack on police] because you have a lot of frustrated people out here,” he told the Post. He revealed that Thompson wasn’t an official member of the group, but nonetheless attended meetings where they talked about “police brutality” cases that have yet to be officially designated as police brutality cases.

“I don’t condone violence, but something needs to be done,” Francois said. “We need to have some type of deterrent and real oversight to deter the police from violating the laws and to know they are not above the laws.” He added that he didn’t agree with Thompson’s methods. “I tell people that to go up against law enforcement in this country is suicide,” Francois explained. “Our main way to deal with it is to rally and boycotting.”

Not exactly. When racial animosity was fomented by the usual suspects after Trayvon Martin was killed, the NBPP put a $10,000 bounty on the head of George Zimmerman, with NBPP party leader Mikhail Muhammad warning that he should be “fearful for his life.”

Family and friends described Thompson as an all-around hater, in sympathy with jihadists, and directing his animus towards cops in particular and white people in general. That animus aligns itself with the racist and conspiratorial theory of “white privilege” and its laundry list of perceived grievances, all based on the wearisome victimist mentality cultivated among black Americans by the American left for more than a half-century. Hence a hater becomes a crusader with only the method for expressing that hatred — wielding an ax, for example — at issue. And as the ongoing mayhem in Ferguson, MO so amply indicates, it is a victimist mentality unresponsive to logic and lawfulness, or waiting for the facts to emerge before reaching conclusions about what “really” happened.

That’s because the unbroken narrative of “unfairness” justifies anything and everything.

It is a narrative egged on by an Obama administration that has granted an unseemly and wholly unwarranted level of credence to racial arsonists like Al Sharpton, with both Attorney General Eric Holder and President Barack Obama attending Sharpton’s annual National Action Network galas, and heaping praise on the tax-evading, hoax-perpetrating rabble-rouser.

Couple this reality with the administration’s flaccid and largely incoherent response to ISIS—a response necessitated by the president’s premature withdrawal of troops from Iraq in 2011, based on the campaign-fueled lie that “the tide of war is receding”—and the nation is facing a perfect storm. One of the administration’s own making, and one that facilitates the cultivation of domestic jihadists and racist thugs. The longer ISIS remains a threat, the greater the chance of more “lone wolves” being enchanted by its resiliency. The more this administration gins up racial animosity in a pathetic attempt to get out the minority vote in the short term, and keep black Americans on the Democrat plantation over the long haul, the more likely “crusading” cop-killer, jihadist wannabes will take their best shot.

Thompson “Googled the words ‘jihad against police,’ ” said the Post’s law enforcement source. ISIS is extremely well-versed on how to “hit a lot of different kinds of people’s buttons,” explained David Schanzer, director of the Triangle Center of Terrorism and Homeland Security at Duke University. “I didn’t know it would get that serious,” said Thompson’s father. “I didn’t know he was going to carry on a mission on his own.” Thompson was hardly alone. He had plenty of enablers, both foreign and domestic.

VonDerrit Myers Jr. (front right)

More than two months after a black man was killed trying to wrest a handgun away from a white police officer, left-wing protesters continue to perpetrate acts of violence with relative impunity in and around Ferguson, Mo. where the incident happened.

Reports indicate 17 people were arrested during weekend demonstrations as activists geared up for even more violence and vandalism in the St. Louis suburb that has been under siege by cop-hating radicals more or less continuously since the Aug. 9 shooting death of Michael Brown.

Activists in Ferguson are also upset that a different 18-year-old black man was shot and killed in a separate incident last week by a police officer in the St. Louis area. VonDerrit Myers Jr. was shot dead in St. Louis City, reportedly after shooting at an officer three times during a chase. Myers was wearing a monitoring ankle bracelet as a condition of bail from a gun case months ago. After Myers’s death, activists reportedly broke windows, burned a U.S. flag, and attacked journalists.

Thousands of protesters converged on Ferguson over the weekend, according to reports. The out-of-state visitors included anti-war radicals left over from the Sixties, seminarians, college students, and fast food workers imported from Chicago, Nashville, and elsewhere.

Community organizers are also hard at work attempting to destabilize Ferguson and the surrounding region.

On the weekend, protesters were “attempting to storm” a business and were “throwing rocks at the police,” according to St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson.

Some activists have made it clear that they are willing to use force to get their way.

“We still are knee deep in this situation,” said rap artist and community organizer Tef Poe, whose real name is Kareem Jackson.

“We have not packed up our bags, we have not gone home,” said Poe. “This is not a fly-by-night moment. This is not a made-for-TV revolution. This is real people standing up to a real problem and saying, ‘We ain’t taking it no more.’”

Organizers of the “Ferguson October” protests falsely claim that blacks are routinely gunned down by white police officers. Their website states:

Our country can no longer deny the epidemic of police violence facing Black and Brown communities. Mike Brown is now part of a long list of people like John Crawford, Ezell Ford, Eric Garner, Oscar Grant and countless others who have been unjustly killed by police. Their lives mattered. Join Hands Up United, Organization for Black Struggle, Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment and our partners in Ferguson from October 10-13th for a weekend of resistance. We’re hosting a series of public events—marches, convenings and panels— to build momentum for a nationwide movement against police violence.

But in reality these protests have little to do with justice for Brown, the 18-year-old shot in the August incident. Their purpose is to intimidate local authorities, including the grand jury that is sitting to decide if police officer Darren Wilson should be charged in the shooting of Michael Brown. Activists are demanding criminal charges against Wilson regardless of the evidence.

The grand jury is expected in coming weeks to determine if Wilson, a decorated white policeman, will face criminal charges for killing Brown, a young black man who reportedly attacked him minutes after robbing a convenience store. Ferguson has been plagued by violent demonstrations since the shooting. Hundreds of people, including individuals police call “outside agitators,” have been arrested in nearly continuous protests since Brown’s death.

Radical left-wing agitators billing themselves as civil rights activists promise more mayhem and deadly violence if the grand jury declines to indict Wilson in the shooting of Brown.

The politically correct lie that a helpless 6’4″ 292-lbs. Brown was shot in cold blood, arms raised while attempting to surrender to white Wilson, instead of the less convenient truth that Brown was beating the cop while reaching for his gun, is alive and well. In the minutes before the altercation with Wilson, Brown was captured on video bullying a much smaller East Indian shopkeeper during a robbery, an act that some might consider a hate crime.

These Ferguson demonstrations that have been blessed by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, help to reinforce President Obama’s narrative that America is a deeply, systemically racist nation that needs to be fundamentally transformed. They also help to put race relations in the spotlight weeks away from the midterm congressional elections in which Democrats appear poised to receive an electoral shellacking.

Obama and congressional Democrats are desperate and it shows. They need racial strife and resentment in order to rev up their voters. They see the prospect of hanging onto control of the U.S. Senate slipping away a little bit more each day. They have no achievements from recent years to speak of so they prefer to keep the talking heads of the mainstream media busy discussing make-believe problems such as income inequality, imaginary racism, the GOP’s alleged war on women, the name of the Washington Redskins football team, how global warming is more of a threat to the civilized world than the Islamic State, and how Republicans supposedly caused ebola outbreaks by not giving in to President Obama’s budgetary requests.

On Monday noted Marxist academic Cornel West was arrested in Ferguson.

He visited the city for propaganda purposes, specifically, to be taken into custody in front of TV cameras. “It’s a beautiful thing to see people on fire for justice, but I didn’t come here to give a speech,” West said Sunday evening. “I came here to go to jail.”

West, unlike most of his fellow protesters in Ferguson, is at least honest about his intentions.

Turning a lynch mob into a taxpayer-funded Democratic voter registration drive.

Despite the continuing absence of any evidence whatsoever that race was a factor in the police shooting of Michael Brown, the Department of Justice will be conducting a race-baiting witch-hunt aimed at the entire police force in Ferguson, Mo., Attorney General Eric Holder announced yesterday.

The new investigation is nothing more than a taxpayer-funded Democratic Party voter registration drive disguised as a civil rights investigation. Such hoaxes are the stock in trade of the radical community organizers who run the Obama White House. Statistics, by the way, suggest Ferguson is far from the hotbed of crime the media has portrayed it as. Ferguson reportedly has an average level of crime.

“When I visited Ferguson two weeks ago, I promised that the U.S. Department of Justice would continue to stand with the people there long after the national headlines had faded,” Holder said, according to the text of prepared remarks. Egged on by violent left-wing mobs and racial tension profiteers like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson Sr., federal officials were already conducting what will almost certainly prove to be a fruitless civil rights-centered investigation of Brown’s death.

“Today, with our investigation into the Ferguson Police Department and our reform efforts in St. Louis County, we’re taking significant steps to keep that promise,” Holder said. “As these efforts unfold, my colleagues and I will keep working with the people in Ferguson to ensure that a fair, thorough investigation occurs; to see that dialogue can be translated into concrete action; and to facilitate lasting, positive change – that brings together police officials, civil rights leaders, and members of the public – to bridge gaps and build understanding.”

Except perhaps for what some critics said was an initially heavy-handed and overly militaristic approach to crowd control used by Ferguson police, there is no evidence much, if any, change is actually needed in the St. Louis-area township.

To repeat, this expanded federal investigation of a local incident has absolutely nothing to do with justice and everything to do with electoral politics. Although at least 40 federal agents have reportedly been on the ground in the St. Louis area desperately searching for proof of racial animus on the part of Darren Wilson, a decorated Ferguson police officer who shot Brown Aug. 9 after the 18-year-old suspected gang member beat him and tried to take his handgun, such evidence remains elusive.

That figure of 40 agents is apparently more than the Obama administration has assigned to all the other major scandals embroiling the administration combined. Those other scandals include Hillary Clinton’s Benghazi bungling, IRS persecution of conservative groups, New Black Panther Party voter intimidation charges, the Fast and Furious gun-running episode, and the NSA’s domestic spying.

All the racial grievance-community organizing complex currently has to go on is the fact that the decedent was black and the policeman was white.

It is, of course, no coincidence that the investigation was announced as President Obama’s approval rating with the public dipped to record lows. At an anemic 38 percent according to Gallup’s three-day rolling average, it is now descending into President Nixon territory. Obama is anxious to change the conversation to issues that don’t matter like raising the minimum wage and income inequality.

The announcement of an expanded federal investigation in Ferguson comes three weeks after the race-baiting members of the far-left Congressional Black Caucus demanded a federal lynch mob be assembled to put the mostly white Ferguson police department in its place.

In a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio), who heads the CBC, Reps. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.), and John Conyers (D-Mich.) demanded the political persecution of Ferguson cops because in their view Brown’s killing “may be part of a continuing pattern of the use of deadly force by police against unarmed African-Americans.”

Brown’s shooting raises “potentially serious concerns” about law enforcement in St. Louis, the lawmakers wrote. Holder’s Department of Justice should take over the probe because, they claim, the St. Louis County Police Department “may not be the most objective or credible body to investigate civil rights matters involving law enforcement given evidence of racial profiling by that department in the recent past.”

“Only the federal government has the resources, the experience, and the full independence to give this case the close scrutiny that the citizens of Ferguson and the greater St. Louis area deserve,” the letter said.

While Brown’s body was still warm, Democrats set up a voter registration booth where Brown died, as if the suspected gang member were some kind of martyr. They are now trying to leverage his death nationally for partisan purposes.

“This is going to go past Ferguson,” said John Gaskin III, a spokesman for the St. Louis County, Mo., NAACP and a member of the group’s national board of directors.

“What I’ve told people is I want them to be aware that there’s a Ferguson near you, near every city,” he said. “I don’t think people will run out of steam on this one.”

Holder’s announcement also comes days after Brown was laid to rest following a grotesque political rally led by the abominable racial arsonist Al Sharpton.

The politically correct lie that a helpless 6’4″ 292-lbs. Brown was shot in cold blood, arms raised while attempting to surrender to white police officer Wilson, instead of the less convenient truth that Brown was beating the cop while reaching for his gun, refuses to die.

In the minutes before he attacked Wilson, Brown was captured on video bullying a much smaller East Indian shopkeeper during a robbery, an act that some might consider a hate crime.

The image of a huge robber manhandling a much smaller victim won’t run out of steam anytime soon, either.

Debunking the lie that black drivers are pulled over more often because of racism.

In an article about police shootings in last Sunday’s New York Times (8/31), Michael Wines disputes the conventional wisdom about a disproportionate number of African-Americans being shot by police, saying there are no data one way or another. But Wines revives the canard about blacks being disproportionately targeted in traffic stops.

There actually is a study for that.

Throughout the 1990s, the nation was fixated on tales of jack-booted New Jersey state troopers who were stopping speeders on the turnpike just because they were black! In a 2000 primary debate, Vice President Al Gore sneered at then-New Jersey Sen. Bill Bradley, saying, “Racial profiling practically began in New Jersey, Senator Bradley.”

Attorney General Eric Holder recently paid tribute to the myth, claiming that when he was in college, he had been stopped “driving from New York to Washington.” He didn’t mention how fast he was going.

The story never made sense. How could the troopers tell the race of drivers in speeding cars? Did they wait until the driver rolled down his window and, if he was white, say, “Oh, sorry — have a nice day!”

But the Clinton administration was slapping consent decrees for racial profiling on police departments across the country, and the N.J. highway patrol was its prime evidence, based on a study that a child wouldn’t believe.

As is usually the case with bogus race studies, the pivotal 1993 survey compared speed stops on the New Jersey turnpike to the population of all drivers on the turnpike — not with the population of all speeders on the turnpike.

Such meaningless studies are popular on the left, where it is assumed that people of different races, genders and ethnicities will always behave identically in all respects.

If fewer women pass the physical test to become firefighters, that can only be because of sexism. If fewer blacks pass the written test — that’s racism. If fewer whites play professional basketball — no, forget that one. Sports are important. (Unlike arson or vehicular homicide.)

Nonetheless, based on the assumption that blacks speed just as much as whites — because to believe otherwise would be racist! — Temple University’s John Lamberth announced that while only 13.5 percent of drivers along a particular stretch of the New Jersey Turnpike were black, 46 percent of those stopped for speeding were black.

Racial profiling, Q.E.D.

The New York Times ran a dozen articles trumpeting the nonsense study, proclaiming it “the most thorough documentation of the contention that the police regularly pulled over black drivers.” Lamberth himself praised his research for ruling out the possibility of coincidence — and if you can’t trust Lamberth on his own study, who can you trust?

Largely on the basis of that investigation, New Jersey Superior Court Judge Robert E. Francis threw out the contraband evidence seized from 19 African-American men in traffic stops on the turnpike. New Jersey’s ninny governor, Christie Todd Whitman, pronounced her state’s troopers guilty of racial profiling and agreed to a consent decree with the Department of Justice (DOJ) that basically prohibited the troopers from doing their jobs.

Statisticians, and other people with common sense, tried to explain to liberals that human beings are not identical. Any study purporting to show that too many blacks are stopped for speeding must first determine how many speeders are black.

Being denounced as virtual Klansmen, the state troopers demanded a real study.

Confident that any new study would merely serve to confirm the troopers’ racism, the DOJ and the New Jersey attorney general commissioned a statistical investigation from the Public Services Research Institute in Maryland.

The institute’s study was a spectacular thing. Using expensive monitors with high-speed cameras and radar detectors, they clocked the speeds of nearly 40,000 drivers on the relevant section of the turnpike. Three researchers then examined the photos to determine the race of the driver — without knowing whether the driver was speeding, which was defined as going more than 80 mph in 65 mph zones.

The result: No racial profiling.

Blacks constituted 25 percent of all speeders and they were 23 percent of drivers stopped for speeding. Controlling for age and gender, blacks sped at about twice the rate of whites. The racial disparity was even greater for drivers exceeding 90 mph.

Inasmuch as the study was irrefutable, Mark Posner, a lefty Clinton holdover in the Bush Justice Department, tried to block it from being released, continuously demanding more information.

But no matter how statisticians fiddled with the data, the results were identical: Blacks were twice as likely to speed as whites — and at much higher speeds. The troopers were completely vindicated.

When the study finally leaked — over Posner’s objections — he informed the press it wasn’t “valid” without articulating any actual problems with it. The attorney general of New Jersey, David Samson, nonsensically said the results didn’t matter because New Jersey had already admitted its troopers were engaging in racial profiling.

Perhaps the Times is right and there is no comprehensive study of police shootings by race. But it’s also possible that there is one, it didn’t come out as planned, so it has never seen the light of day.

What's holding America back from preventing the next Ferguson.

Last week, as riots in Ferguson, Missouri decrescendoed and the country held its collective breath over the question of the indictment of Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown, rappers Diddy (formerly P. Diddy, formerly Puff Daddy, formerly Sean Combs), 2 Chainz, The Game, and Rick Ross, along with 10 of their fellows, released a song: “Don’t Shoot.”

The Game explained why he felt the necessity to record the song: “I am a black man with kids of my own that I love more than anything, and I cannot fathom a horrific tragedy like Michael Brown’s happening to them. This possibility has shaken me to my core.”

The lyrics of the song speak to a perverse view of race in America — a view reinforced day after day by a media dedicated to the proposition that American law enforcement maliciously targets black men at random. To this point, nobody knows the facts of the case in the Brown shooting. Nonetheless, the rappers label the shooting cold-blooded, first-degree murder. Because facts are unnecessary; only feelings are real. “God ain’t put us on the Earth to get murdered, it’s murder,” says one rapper, TGT. Another, The Game, raps, “They killin’ teens, they killin’ dreams, it’s murder.”

Next, Diddy launches into a listing of various black men killed under controversial circumstances. Some, like Emmett Till, were murdered in acts of pure and evil racism. But Diddy lumps together Till with Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown — and even Ezell Ford. Last week, the Los Angeles Police Department released the identities of the two police officers who shot Ford. One was Asian; the other was Hispanic. The Huffington Post did not even cover their races. The Los Angeles Times buried that relevant fact in paragraph 13 of their comprehensive story. But again, facts do not matter: Only a feeling of persecution matters.

Then Rick Ross sums up the generalized view of America created by media-stoked racial conflagrations like the Michael Brown situation: “Black men, we pay the toll, the price is your life, Uncle Sam want a slice, black dress code now we looting in the night, now we throwing Molotovs in this Holocaust.” A grand total of just under 100 young black men are killed by white police officers each year, according to statistics provided to the FBI by local police.

To compare police treatment of young black men to the Holocaust is not only statistically idiotic, but also morally dangerous.

Nonetheless, that is the view of police for many blacks: police as paramilitary white force out to target black men. When I was recently in the CNN green room with former Obama green jobs czar Van Jones, he and I got to talking about the Ferguson situation. I asked him why he believed there was such a racial gap in the interpretation of the situation. His answer: “You’re Jewish, right? Wouldn’t you jump to conclusions if you heard that the Nazis or Hamas had killed a Jew?”

Of course, not even Van Jones, Diddy, 2 Chainz, and the rest truly believe what they say about the police. All those who spout about a “Holocaust” by police against blacks would call 911 in approximately 3.5 seconds if their houses were robbed. But if we truly believe that America’s police forces are akin to Nazis or Islamic terrorists, there can be no decent solution. Fighting police would be a moral imperative, not a moral evil.

And therein lies the problem. The only real answer to the antipathy between large segments of the black community and police is threefold: first, taking seriously fact-based allegations of racism against the authorities, and investigating and prosecuting such allegations if well-founded; second, not jumping to conclusions about non-fact-based allegations; and third, lowering crime rates among young black men, thereby lowering interactions between police and young black men.

But those are not solutions backed by the racially delusional. Instead, they suggest an unending and circular “conversation” about race that goes something like this: Police sometimes shoot young black men; that’s because police are racist; therefore, those who resist police are not morally unjustified; rinse, wash, repeat.

Sadly, America’s media backs this second approach. And so we end up with damaging foolishness like “Don’t Shoot” infusing our pop culture and the snarky but empty-headed racial guilting of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert invading our news. And nothing gets solved. We just get more hate, more rage and more violence.

The four major flaws of the libertarian/leftist position on the “militarization” of local police forces.

Making the rounds through libertarian (and other) circles in the wake of the police shooting death of Michael Brown is the notion that the “militarization” of local police forces is a huge problem besetting the country.

Though I self-identify as a conservative, I have a considerable affection for libertarianism. In fact, it is precisely because of this fondness that I am compelled to put out to pasture all of this “militarization” talk.

(1)The mere possession of weaponry of a kind on the part of police is no more objectionable—no more a justification for the charge of “militarization”—than is the mere existence of guns or SUV’s objectionable.

For starters, it is unclear as to what libertarians even mean in claiming that the police are “militarized.” From what I can gather—sorry, but no self-avowed libertarian writer who I have yet encountered is clear on this—it is the fact that today’s police forces are equipped with weaponry of a technologically sophisticated sort, the sort with which our soldiers are armed when confronting enemies overseas, that warrants the charge of “militarization.”

How the mere possession of things is a cause of alarm for, of all people, the libertarian, is beyond me. In personifying inanimate objects he comes perilously close to sounding like just those enemies of liberty against whom he’s tirelessly railing, those who would personify guns, wealth, and, say, SUV’s.

Moreover, libertarians are the first to champion the (law-abiding, adult) citizen’s constitutional, even “inalienable,” right to bear virtually whatever arms he prefers. How, we must ask, does it turn out to be permissible—not “militarized”—for the janitor next door to possess a machine gun, but somehow impermissible—“militarized”—for the police to do the same?

(2) The distribution of arms among the police, on the one hand, and the citizenry, on the other, utterly fails to establish that the police, or anyone, haven’t a right to arm themselves like Rambo—i.e. it fails to supply a single warrant for the charge of “militarization.”

If the libertarian insists that it isn’t the possession by police of weaponry as such to which he objects, but the fact that, as things currently stand, the police have access to these weapons to which other citizens are denied, then it is the distribution of this access, and not the access itself, that has him upset.

But if this is the case, then the proper complaint is not, “The police are ‘militarized’!” The proper complaint is that, “We should be allowed to be ‘militarized’ too,” or something like this.

In other words, the charge of “militarization” makes no sense here.

(3) The concept of “militarization” encompasses the concepts of collective purpose and coercion.

Government, by definition, has a monopoly on force. Yet, theoretically, the libertarian, unlike the anarchist, has no objections to this: the libertarian recognizes the authority of government to both enact and enforce laws. Since police officers are government agents, the libertarian affirms their authority to deploy the power at their disposal to coerce citizens into abiding by the laws that police are committed to safeguarding.

So, the sheer fact that police are endowed with the power to coerce prospective and actual violators of the law can’t be something with which the libertarian has a problem, for he has no problem with government per se.

In other words, that police are using force to maintain law and order—precisely what police have always done and what they’ve always been meant to do—can’t be the spring of the libertarian’s howls of “militarization.”

Only if government agents—whether police or otherwise—are coercing citizens in the service of fulfilling some grand collective purpose will the charge of “militarization” apply. Coercion, in and of itself, is insufficient to constitute “militarization.”

But this, in turn, means that the actual weaponry with which the police (or any other agent of the government) are endowed is irrelevant to determining whether the police, or any other agent of government, are “militarized.” If police were armed only with clubs, but used these clubs in order to insure that citizens were exercising three days a week for the purpose of producing “The Physically Fit Society,” say, then this would indeed show that the police had a “militarized” set of mind. Conversely, if the police are armed to the teeth with the stuff of soldiers but used their arms only to insure that the rule of law was preserved, to protect the life, limb, and property of citizens from those—like the rioters in Ferguson—who are intent upon undermining civilization, this would fail to establish that they are “militarized.”

(4) Police brutality, dereliction of duty, abuse of power and the like are issues that should count for much for all decent people, especially the libertarian. But none of these things are necessarily a function of “militarization,” much less equivalent to it.

That there are police officers that abuse their authority and power is not only an empirically verified fact; it is a no-brainer to the lover of liberty who knows, along with Lord Acton, that while “absolute power tends to corrupt absolutely,” even a limited degree of “power tends to corrupt.”

But when police do violate their oath to serve and protect, then we can and should call out their violations for what they are. Conflating or obscuring issues with bumper-sticker friendly misnomers like “militarization” is counterproductive.

In America’s biggest city, New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio has not been supportive of the police department. As Sergeant Ed Mullins, President of the Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) of the NYPD said this week when calling for the 2016 Democratic National Convention to not come to New York City,

The Mayor has provided a public platform to the loudest of the city’s anti-safety agitators, instead of giving voice to the millions of New Yorkers who want to live and work in safety. Why would you kowtow to demagogues who push a political agenda? Do you really think people in the city care more about politics than quality of life?

Mullins noted,

The degradation of our streets is on the rise. As reported widely in the media, shootings have increased by 13% percent citywide since last year. At the same time, the squeegee people are reappearing on the streets, and aggressive panhandlers and con-men are populating the subways and Times Square. Why? Because diminished support for police officers translates directly into crime spikes and drops in quality of life. And right now the number of cops on the streets is insufficient to address the city’s growing problems. The NYPD is understaffed and overworked, and underpaid. Morale among police officers is low, and there are few signs that it will get better any time soon. Our Mayor can’t be a leader in the fight against crime without supporting his police force.

While perhaps it is baffling that countless elected officials blame the police constantly, perhaps the answer as to why comes from former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani who said some months ago that the lack of support for our boys in blue “comes more from this very left-wing ideology, which is an anti-police ideology.”

Being a police officer is a very difficult job – it has to be so much harder when people do not feel the support of elected officials and government – the very people who should be supporting law and order.

Mullins noted that when De Blasio “ran for office last year, he spoke of a ‘Tale of Two Cities.’ Indeed, the City is heading toward a very real division: one part of the city consisting of citizens who respect the rule of law, and the other led by anti-safety political opportunists and blowhards pursuing a personal and political agenda.” People want safety – not politics.

Police officers wake up, do their jobs and go home to their families. Nothing is perfect in anyone’s life – or profession – and unfortunately in law enforcement mistakes happen. That doesn’t mean that elected officials can throw the baby out with the bathwater. Police officers remain committed to enforcing the law and improving the quality of life of Americans nationwide.

As a native New Yorker, I remember a different city. There was crime, violence, squeegee men and drug pushers on every corner. New York needs strong law and order in this concrete jungle which I love so much. Police officers remain committed to making cities safe – and elected officials must stand side by side with them. Supporting the police department should not be a political decision.

What the media won't tell you about affirmative action plans imposed on police departments.

As the story of Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson’s shooting of Michael Brown begins to look less clear-cut than we were led to believe by Brown’s friend, Dorian Johnson, the “voices of oppression” on MSNBC now say the real issue is that there aren’t enough blacks on the Ferguson police force.

As Brown may or may not have said seconds before his death: I give up.

If the Ferguson police are forced to hire more minorities and women for the sake of diversity, the one thing we can be sure of is that more black people will be murdered, raped and assaulted.

Someone’s got to say it, so it might as well be me: I’m against more black people being murdered, raped and assaulted.

In a massive, detailed 2000 study of the effect of court-ordered affirmative action plans on police departments, economist John Lott found that the more minorities on a police force, the higher the rates of murder, manslaughter, violent crime, robbery and aggravated assault will be. Violent crime increased by a minimum of 3.3 percent every year after affirmative action policies went into effect — and the spike in crime was highest in black neighborhoods.

The problem was not with black cops, Lott’s study showed, but rather with the lowering of standards across the board, resulting in less-qualified officers of every race. To get more of MSNBC’s “voices of oppression” on police forces, requirements are reduced for all recruits. (Just as quality declined at MSNBC when “voices of oppression” had to be added to their lineup.)

We end up with cops who are criminals, the Rampart scandal of the 1990s and great movies like “Training Day.”

About a decade into a federal consent decree requiring the Los Angeles Police Department to hire more minority officers, the LAPD’S Rampart division was employing gang members in uniforms.

Training officer Jim Peasha told investigative reporter Jan Golab that he left his unit because of the preposterous recruits being sent to him as a result of affirmative action. “I had some fantastic minority recruits,” Peasha said. “One black kid was the best I ever had.” But he also had “one guy who I knew was on drugs and I couldn’t get him out. He wound up getting caught working as a guard at a rock (cocaine) house. An off-duty cop!”

It was almost as if the LAPD was turning into the public school system.

By the time of the Rampart scandal, two dozen black police officers in Los Angeles were suspected of gang activity. Most were forced out. Four officers were proved to have been engaging in criminal acts — including a bank robbery and an attempted murder. All were black and Hispanic. (Let’s call them “officers of oppression.”)

As a top official with the LAPD told Golab, “This is not an LAPD problem; this is a black problem.”

It was so obvious that affirmative action had led to the Rampart scandal that a “Blue Ribbon” commission specifically denied it. Twice. Using the exact same words. It was the equivalent of calling a press conference to announce that you’re not gay.

This is the irrelevancy printed twice in the commission’s report:

“Personnel Department experts found no instance where a candidate failed to meet the LAPD’s background or psychological standards. Moreover, the experts found no meaningful difference in the application of background and psychological standards to candidates of varying race or ethnicity.”

Wait — no applicants failed? That’s precisely the point! Everyone gets an “A,” every applicant becomes a police officer.

And no one imagined that only the minority officers would be less qualified. As Lott’s study showed, once standards are lowered to ensure “diversity,” standards are lowered for all recruits, resulting in a rainbow coalition of incompetence.

This is exactly how Democrats wrecked the economy with the subprime mortgage crisis. Then-Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Andrew Cuomo, Sen. Chris Dodd and Rep. Barney Frank bragged about how they were helping minorities get mortgages by forcing banks to adopt ridiculously low lending standards.

But once traditional measures of credit-worthiness were jettisoned, they were jettisoned for everyone. You will notice that the housing market crash was concentrated not in black neighborhoods, but in house-flipping hot spots.

Lott’s study did find some preliminary evidence that increasing the number of black male cops on a police force led to a slight reduction in shootings of civilians — as did having more white male cops. But more white females on a police force increased shootings of civilians. The voices of oppression don’t get to have it both ways.

The main benefit to having black cops shooting civilians is that Al Sharpton gets less air time, which I think we’re all in favor of. Also, when a black cop shoots a civilian, the whole world doesn’t have to stop, as the media go on a bloodhound-search for racism.

In 1999, four New York City police officers shot an unarmed immigrant, Amadou Diallo, after he disregarded their commands and pulled out what looked like a gun. It turned out to be a wallet.

(Diallo didn’t obey the officers because he didn’t speak English. Police work is going to be so exciting in Marco Rubio’s America. “Freeze! Para continuar en Espanol, marque el dos.”)

Just a few months later, a cop in Chicago fatally shot an unarmed civilian, LaTanya Haggerty, a 26-year-old computer programmer, who was sitting in the passenger seat of a car. The officer thought LaTanya had a gun — but that turned out to be a cellphone.

There was no Bruce Springsteen song about LaTanya, no preening by Sen. Bill Bradley on the Senate floor, no 24/7 coverage. The FBI, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and the Justice Department didn’t open investigations into LaTanya’s shooting.

You’ve probably never even heard of LaTanya Haggerty — because the officer who shot her was black.

The Diallo cops were prosecuted for murder (and acquitted). The officer in Chicago lost her job. LaTanya Haggerty’s shooting is so little known that in 2008, the Chicago Sun-Times misidentified her as the officer, not the victim, in the shooting.

The only real advantage to compelling the Ferguson police force to adopt affirmative action hiring policies is that the media will be tickled pink with themselves for striking a blow against “racism.” On the other hand, more black people will be murdered, raped and maimed as crime rates rise. I guess it’s really just a matter of priorities.

At issue was the recent death of Eric Garner, a black New Yorker who resisted arrest and subsequently died from what a medical examiner described as an interplay between a white police officer’s chokehold and Garner’s multiple chronic infirmities. A featured speaker at Sunday’s demonstration was the mother of Amadou Diallo, a black man who was killed in a 1999 shooting by four NYPD officers. “Police cannot judge our sons and execute them for no reason,” she declared.

Yesterday, Sharpton spoke at the funeral of Michael Brown, the black teenager who was recently shot and killed by a white policeman in Missouri. Claiming that the police had callously treated Brown “like his life value didn’t matter,” Sharpton called on the congregation to help “change this country.” Indeed, Sharpton has vowed to turn Brown’s death into a “defining moment on how this country deals with policing.” His contention is that too many African Americans are being unjustifiably killed in the streets by white police. If he’s correct, then we’ve got a monumental national scandal on our hands that surely deserves to be addressed. So let’s examine the facts and see what they tell us.

The most comprehensive information we have on this issue comes from a landmark 51-page report published by the Bureau of Justice Statistics in 2001. This study examined incidents where police used deadly force to kill criminal suspects during the 23-year period from 1976 through 1998.[1] The study did not distinguish between whites and Hispanics,[2] but instead categorized all members of those two demographics as “white.” So, for the moment, let’s refer to this group as “W&H” (Whites & Hispanics) rather than “whites.”

During the course of the entire 23-year period examined in the study, 56% of all suspects killed by police were W&H, and 42% were black.

Over time, W&H constituted an ever-increasing percentage of those who were killed by police: In 1978, they accounted for 50% of all such killings. By 1988 that figure had climbed to 59%, and by 1998 it stood at 62%.

Meanwhile, the trend for African Americans was moving in precisely the opposite direction: In 1978, black suspects were 49% of those killed by police. By 1988, that figure had fallen to 39%. And ten years after that, it stood at 35%.

Most cases where police killed suspects during 1976-98 were same-race incidents: When W&H officers were the killers, the suspects were usually W&H (63%). And when black officers were the killers, the suspects were usually black (81%).

In 1998 specifically, 3.2 out of every 10,000 black officers killed a black suspect sometime that year, whereas only 1.4 out of every 10,000 W&H officers killed a black suspect.

Also in 1998, about 2.8 out of every 10,000 W&H officers killed a W&H suspect sometime that year—double the rate at which W&H officers killed black suspects.

To fill in the data from more recent years, we must turn to a 2011 Bureau of Justice Statistics study which covers the period from 2003 to 2009. Unlike the earlier study, this one does distinguish between whites and Hispanics.[3] Of all suspects who are known to have been killed by police during the 7-year time frame, 41.7% were white, 31.7% were black, and 20.3% were Hispanic.

It is also worth noting that during the 2003-2009 period—when blacks were 31.7% of all suspects killed by an officer—blacks accounted for about 38.5% of all arrests for violent crimes, which are the types of crimes most likely to trigger a confrontation with police that could result in a fatality.[4] These numbers do not in any way suggest a lack of restraint by police in their dealings with black suspects. On the contrary, they suggest the opposite.

The bottom line is this: Evidence of systemic racism in police shootings simply doesn’t exist. Anywhere.

But Al Sharpton and his ideological ilk have no use for facts like these. For Sharpton, the corpses of Michael Brown and Eric Garner are merely props to be exploited for the purpose of advancing the singular agenda he has had for more than 30 years, which is to convince as many people as possible that America is, and always has been, an inherently racist wasteland that needs to be fundamentally transformed—economically, politically, and socially. The facts of any specific case are irrelevant to Sharpton. For him, everything is about the larger agenda.

Nor is this anything new for Sharpton. Way back when this utterly pathetic individual was immersed in his equally pathetic Tawana Brawley “rape” hoax, one of his closest aides, Perry McKinnon—a former police officer, private investigator, and hospital security director—revealed the following: “Sharpton acknowledged to me early on that ‘the [Brawley] story do sound like bullsh**, but it don’t matter. We’re building a movement. This is the perfect issue. Because you’ve got whites on blacks. That’s an easy way to stir up all the deprived people … and all [you've] got to do is convince them that all white people are bad. Then you’ve got a movement.’”[5]

A quarter-century later, nothing—absolutely nothing—has changed.

NOTES:

[1] All calendar years from 1976 through 1998 are counted, thus 23 separate calendar years are included in the study. All told, approximately 8,578 suspects were killed by police during those 23 years. The annual totals ranged from a low of 296 to a high of 459. Data for a small handful of states is missing from this study, but the vast majority of police killings nationwide were counted.
[2] “Hispanics” is a broad and nebulous term referring, generally, to people whose heritage can be traced to Spanish-speaking countries. The term was concocted for political purposes in 1970 by the Nixon administration. For an excellent explanation of the term’s origins and its subsequent ramifications, click here.
[3] The data in this study are not entirely comprehensive, because not every U.S. state reported its overall statistics in every year that was examined. Nevertheless, the ratios uncovered in the report are highly illuminating.

The black community's distorted view of Ferguson — and how to fix it.

On Monday, Rasmussen released a poll of Americans regarding the guilt or innocence of Officer Darren Wilson, the police officer who shot unarmed 18-year-old black man Michael Brown six times in Ferguson, Missouri. Those polls show that 57 percent of black adults think that Wilson should be found guilty of murder; 56 percent of whites, by contrast, are undecided on the matter.

The latter position is the correct one. Witnesses, including one Dorian Johnson, claim that Brown was pulled over by Wilson, attacked by him and pulled into the car, ran, stopped when told to freeze by Wilson, held up his hands, and was then shot. Other witnesses — more than a dozen of them, according to local media — say that Brown attacked Wilson, went for Wilson’s gun, fled before being told to stop, then charged Wilson before being shot.

Here’s what we do know: Despite original media reports labeling Brown a “gentle giant,” Brown and shooting witness Dorian Johnson did participate in a strong-arm robbery of a local convenience store. We know that despite original witness reports suggesting that Brown was shot in the back, he was not. We know that contemporaneous witness accounts caught on tape suggest that Brown charged at Wilson. And we know that a young black man is dead with six bullets in him at the hands of a white cop.

And to huge segments of the black community, that last fact is the only one that matters. The full facts do not matter to extremists in the black community and to their white leftist enablers, particularly in the media. A full 41 percent of black Americans believe that riots and looting represent “legitimate outrage.” Not protesting — riots and looting. Just 35 percent of blacks think that looters and rioters are criminals taking advantage of the situation.

There is a pattern here: a widespread belief in the black community that the justice system is rigged against them. That belief is not without basis — there is no question that America has a history of racism within the criminal justice community. By the same token, there is also no question that American law enforcement is the least racist it has ever been, by a long shot, and that racism within the law enforcement community is broadly considered unacceptable and vile.

But the belief in a racist justice system seems to have maintained its stranglehold inside the black community. That belief, taken to its extreme, means support for black criminality. It is no coincidence that during the O.J. Simpson trial, 60 percent of black Americans did not believe O.J. was guilty. It is also no coincidence that many white Americans perceive black support for murderers like O.J. Simpson and riots in Ferguson as support for lawlessness, and therefore pooh-pooh charges of police racism. When crying racism becomes crying wolf, it is hard to take such charges seriously.

The solution, however, lays neither in knee-jerk accusations of racism from the black community nor in immediate dismissals of individual accusations by the white community. It lies in continued targeting and prosecution of individual racists in the police community, of course — and far more importantly, it lies in less criminality within the black community. The high levels of crime in the black community contribute to heavier policing, which in turn reinforces perceptions of racial targeting; those perceptions then create resentment against police than ends too often in violent encounters and failure to report crime. And so the cycle starts anew.

It’s time to break the cycle. The only way to do that is to focus on the fact that police have no excuse to shoot anyone unless those people are committing criminal acts. On that we can all agree. Yes, we must arduously insist that police hold to that standard, and we must prosecute those who do not to the fullest extent of the law. But by the same token, we must insist that criminal acts stop — and to do that, we must move beyond simple anti-police sentiment.

The death of Eric Garner in Staten Island, New York City has attracted tabloid headlines for days. His death is undoubtedly a tragedy. Thankfully, in the midst of a New York City summer there hasn’t yet been any violence or anarchy as a result. As a 39-year old born and bred New Yorker, I remember the racial fears that existed in this city when I was growing up. Who can forget the racial politics of the ‘80’s and ‘90’s which today seem like so long ago?

Abner Louima & the Crown Heights Riots? I remember so clearly being at Stuyvesant High School and school ending early in 1991 when the Rodney King riots erupted – and how the city was gripped with fear. How I remember dreading my 1.5 hour train rides on the graffiti-filled subways. All New Yorkers should be thankful to Rudy Giuliani – Mr. Law & Order – who forever changed NYC for the better with his zero tolerance mantra.

One area in which he didn’t excel was in race relations. Racial tensions, however, in many ways changed with Mayor Bloomberg who was less confrontational than his predecessor. Bloomberg – along with Police Commissioner Ray Kelly – regularly dialogued with the minority community, and as a December 2013 Washington Post editorial proclaimed, Bloomberg ushered in the best race relations in decades. As has been widely reported, Reverend Al Sharpton received a call from Bloomberg the night he was elected, and was told:

“Hello, this is Michael Bloomberg. I want you to know it will be different with me as mayor. We will not agree on everything, but you will have access to City Hall.”

Like it or not, Bloomberg’s strategy worked for New Yorkers. The economy boomed, the quality of life improved across the city and crime hit all-time lows. The equilibrium of balance which is always sensitive in this area worked.

This month sees the first major potential for chaos in the era with an uber-liberal Mayor Bill DeBlasio occupying City Hall. This week has seen sparing protests – amidst an announcement by Sharpton to march to the spot where Garner died over the Verrazano Bridge on August 23rd. Rev. Al’s former chief of Staff now works for the Mayor’s wife – who is herself a powerful force in NYC government. Yet, clearly the need to make noise outside isn’t quite the same with ones’ interests being represented in government.

In New York, however, the police need to be given more credit. Our heroic boys in blue are slighted – as Patrick Lynch, the president of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, said recently that police officers feel they have no officials right now in NY government. Lynch noted that “.. the City Council is not looking out for you, there’s not a voice from City Hall looking out for you.”

A recent editorial in The NY Post noted that he shows “ boorish elitism toward the dangerous work of policing.” The editorial continued that the Mayor’s heart is “..not with those who risk their lives to keep us safe,” and continued to say that “de Blasio is still riding an anti-police agenda.”

With power comes responsibility to govern an entire city – and standing on the side of the police is vital for this city. The cops keep us safe, and decisions made inside the halls of power must not alienate them. So much is going right in NYC. The Disneyfication of NY has seen so many positive things – including the reduction of racial tensions.

Let’s hope that Mayor DeBlasio remembers that he needs to hear all of New York for the city to be effective.

Civil rights has a new troubadour. And a new anthem. Pete Seeger is out. The Beastie Boys are in.

Gone are the pastors and protestors holding hands and singing We Shall Overcome. Sometimes at the business end of a fire hose.

In its place is a new spiritual: You Have to Fight For Your Right to Party. Usually accompanied by a cloud of marijuana smoke and whatever kinds of vodka Puff Diddy and 50 Cent are selling these days.

The new Selma is Troy, New York. Just outside of Albany. And the first shot in this new front in the battle for civil rights was fired early Saturday morning a few weeks ago. Not with a bullet, but with a 911 call from a night club called Kokopellis.

“We need the Troy police at Kokopellis,” said the unidentified caller. “We got a bar fight goin’ on here. It’s inside movin’ out. Someone got hit with a bottle.”

How many people are fighting? asked the operator.

“About a hundred.” That was around 2:30 a.m., just a few days after the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, as a local paper reminded us.

Then a bartender called 911 as well: “I’m a bartender at Kokopellis, we need a few cops down here. We got like a ton of people fighting right now and our bouncers are getting punched in the face and everything.”

The “and everything” included getting hit with bottles and sprayed with pepper spray because the bouncers were trying to eject people from the club for smoking pot on the dance floor. But they did not want to go.

A word about Kokopellis: Most night clubs are easy to pigeonhole, mostly by their crowds. But lately a new kind of club is springing up: They try and do it all. Kokopellis is one of those. One night it will feature hip hop and attract a heavy black crowd. Another night, the DJ markets to gay people. They even have hookahs. The college kids love that.

And on and on.

But this night, videos show the crowd was mostly black. And they mostly did not like it when police arrived to the riot. The local paper called it a “scuffle.” Some scuffle.

Most of the people were there to commemorate the shooting death of a local DJ one year earlier. Local news reporter and talk show host Jim Franco said the killing was gang-related.

Police have since released the calls for help from the first responders: “They are throwing bottles at us,” said one cop. “Whoever is on their way better step it up.”

They did. Videos show when cops arrived in bigger numbers soon after, they were met with defiance, physical resistance, pepper spray and someone even discharged a fire extinguisher at them.

Outside, it wasn’t going any better. “Two of our officers were struck in the head by bottles,” said police captain John Cooney told News 10 in Albany. “One suffering a laceration with bruising to the head. A garbage can was thrown at one of our officers. And after glancing off him, went through the back window of one of our patrol cars.”

Before it was over, six people — all black — were arrested. Eight cops were injured, six went to the hospital.

Soon after the real riot ended, the virtual riot began. This was the riot that black ministers insisted had really happened: Cops were beating black people for no other reason than they could. And, oh yeah, they were a bunch of racists.

Cue the Al Sharpton wannabe, Pastor Willie Bacote, backed up by members of the Troy African American Pastoral Alliance. At a community meeting soon after, Bacote was upset at how the police were using excessive force to deny the black people of Troy their right to party. And he was not going to let that happen. Not on his watch.

The Albany Times Union recorded Paster Bacote’s insights for the record: “Race has to be on the table. We’ve got a lot of problems to deal with in our city,” said Bacote of the Missing Link AME Zion Church.

The Troy Record could not get enough of Bacote either. “We have had enough of these incidents here in the city of Troy that keep wanting us to meet like this,” said Pastor Willie Bacote. “We will not tolerate this any longer.”

Bacote was referring to the police responding to several emergency calls involving large scale violence. Not the drunk, high people who attacked the police when they showed up to restore order.

The Tory Record did not point this out, but as police riots go, this was pretty tame stuff: No fractured skulls. No broken arms. No dog bites. No billy club bruises. No bullet holes. No one died. Not like the old days.

One of the men allegedly involved in the brawl and who was later arrested for resisting arrest had a black eye.

The Troy police just hauled several inebriated people off to jail who did not want to go. For Bacote, that meant it was time for the poor and oppressed black people of Troy, New York to go to the mattresses: “We will fight them on the battlefield of justice,” Bacote said.

By now its a familiar act. But fewer and fewer people seem to be buying it, if reader comments are any judge:

“Oh god. I wondered how long it would be before Bacote got his mug in the news demanding police leave black folks alone,” said one reader. “The bar owners were trying to shut the bar down because stupid idiots decided they were going to smoke pot inside. The unruly patrons didn’t like being told to leave so they beat up a bouncer. The cops had to be called and the rest is history. Bacote, isn’t it time for you to head down south like you’ve been promising for years? Troy doesn’t need your here pulling your race card at every possible opportunity. We’re sick of it.”

Even the usually most dependable allies in this civil rights struggle had their doubts about this one: “Incident At Kokopellis,” began the headline of an NPR story. “Finding Racism Where Some Say There Is None?”

Its a start.

Why are police refusing to take seriously "True Goon's" video-taped assault on a defenseless woman?

Rochester does not have a problem with black mob violence. Or black on white crime. The city does, however, have a problem with white people who are not used to it.

So says a Rochester city councilman.

The latest example is a “disturbing” video of a group of black people laughing and dancing as they talk about how they are going wait for an “old lady” to leave a convenience story, then smash her in the face with a snow ball. And a fist.

Which they did. Thanks to the efforts of local activist Davy V., police have a copy of the video and know who the culprits are. And they will talk to them eventually. But police told the local paper it looks more like harassment than assault.

Which should make Rochester councilman Adam McFadden a happy man. McFadden schooled white people about their finicky sensibilities toward crime in 2011. The occasion was an episode of large-scale black mob violence at a city-sponsored Memorial Day party featuring barbecue ribs.

More than 200 black people showed up, ate, rioted, then left. Police arrested 13 black people, including one for assaulting an officer. If anyone in Rochester was surprised or upset, they did a good job hiding it. The local paper explained that several public holiday gatherings had been cancelled the year before because of violence, and “the city has an ongoing issue with crowds of youth at the Liberty Pole downtown.”

Which continue today — the Liberty Pole is the site of regular and frequent black mob violence, especially when students ride the bus there after school. Sometimes accompanied by gunfire. The paper does not talk about the black part.

McFadden explained the 2011 black mob violence, thusly: “I think what you saw at the [Memorial Day barbecue] is what we’ve been seeing in many of our neighborhoods for two decades,” said McFadden. “It’s just that you had a lot of people there who are not used to that culture and got to witness it personally.”

In the two years since, McFadden has been proven correct over and over again — with many of the episodes documented in White Girl Bleed a Lot: The Return of Racial Violence to America and How the Media Ignore It.

The city’s Lilac Festival was once a national showcase of horticultural excellence. Today, the annual flower show is just another excuse for frequent episodes of black mob violence.

By the time it was over last year, 200 people were arrested and four people were stabbed. A man with a shotgun escaped and two police officers were hurt.

Two months prior to the festival, the Rochester police chief sent potential criminals a letter, saying he was watching them and they’d better start behaving. They did not.

Local reporters do not – or will not – report what many readers know: “Let’s face it, this is a racial problem,” said Ann Marie Cummings in the comment section of the Democrat and Chronicle. “Whether it is the Puerto Rican fest, last year at the rib fest, or problems at sea breeze with gangs. It’s obvious these street thugs pick arenas … large amount of people attending.”

In September of 2013 in the Rochester suburb of Irondequoit, police had to close down a movie theater after 400 to 500 black people started fighting inside and outside a showing of the movie Insidious, Chapter 2.

Most of the fighters were from Rochester.

“I saw police officers chasing kids, as we were pulling out of the parking lot to leave we saw police officer knock kids to the ground and one police officer was batoning kids,” said Alton Johnson to Rochester YNN.

Lt. Jonna Izzo explained it all to News 8: “They have pent up energy from being scared in the movie theater and they come out and they don’t know what to do with that energy.”

Some residents said it was strange that anyone could blame a large scale act of violence and mayhem on a movie. Others said it had nothing to with the movie: That mall and others in Irondequoit have been plagued by black mob violence for years:

“So it’s not the first time and won’t be the last !!,” said David Sevor at the web site for WHAM TV news. “It’s sad these young teenagers don’t know how to behave out in public.”

Mike Alpaha was more explicit: “It’s been a problem that has been escalating for a long time. White people are the real problem! Your all too scared to speak up and talk about the real problem!”

“These young black kids are out of control and have no discipline in the home. They have no respect for anyone (especially white people). But everyone is scared of being called a racist for telling it how it is.I’m not a racist, but I can say that the inner city black youth are out of control and only getting worse!”

Four police departments from neighboring jurisdictions assisted. City officials called the bus company, which returned the rioters to Rochester. No one was arrested.

Meanwhile, police are looking for the “old lady” who was struck with a snow ball and a fist.

But the activist who discovered the tape and recorded it before it could be removed is not holding his breath. Davy V. is a filmmaker and blogger who writes in Rochester. He describes some of the actors and actions:

Sunday evening, a Rochester, NY youth who goes by the Facebook name “True Goon Tocool Sneekey” posted a :53 second video titled “Just doin shit watch the smack cam”.

The video starts with the youth laughing and talking into the camera.

“I’m bout to smack the old lady with the snowball when she come out the store,” he says.

A few seconds later, as more laughter is heard in the background, an older woman is seen coming out of a corner store located at the intersection of Jay and Child Streets, on the city’s west side.

The youth in the video then hits the woman in the side of the head.

The youths then run off as one of them is heard yelling “Smack cam! Smack cam!”

Then one of the youths is heard saying “I’m gonna get the fuck up outta here before she calls the cops!”, obviously referring to the woman they just assaulted.

Davy V. says police are not taking the crime seriously.

“I wonder if the woman who came out of that store, and was attacked by some young punk who blinded sided her, hitting her on the side of her head, if that woman had been RPD Sgt. Elena Correia’s mother, or grandmother, would she brush it off as ‘harassment’, which is nothing more than a violation,” said Davy V.

Maybe Councilman McFadden would know. But he is not returning calls or emails.
