The soldier of civilization fighting to keep it alive.

As we sit here in our homes with our families and loved ones around us, tens of thousands of children wonder if their parents will come home tonight.

Their fathers and mothers aren’t stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan. They’re on duty in places like Englewood in Chicago where there are 2 violent crimes for every 1,000 people in one month, Columbus Square in St. Louis or Bedford-Stuyvesant in New York City where two police officers were just murdered.

The men and women of law enforcement are on the front lines of the war at home. From the mugger on the block to the terrorist on the hijacked plane, they are the first ones there.

41 law enforcement officers were shot and killed in 2014. That’s in line with the number of Americans killed by hostile fire in Afghanistan. There’s a reason that Chicago has been nicknamed Chiraq. Some parts of the country are a war zone and after the latest shooting of two police officers in New York City, a statement circulating among cops states that the NYPD has become a “wartime police department.”

The war at home has been going on for a long time and by some accounts has claimed the lives of 20,000 law enforcement officers. Since 2001, more than 700 officers have been killed by gunfire. During the Gulf War, more officers were killed on the streets of American cities than in combat against Saddam.

Even as the murders of NYPD cops Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu fill the news, Officer Charlie Kondek has been shot while pursuing a suspect in Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Officer Kondek had been a former member of the NYPD. He leaves behind five children. His killer, Marco Antonio Parilla Jr, had been repeatedly arrested for the possession and sale of cocaine before being released just this August. Officer Kondek and his children paid the ultimate price for his release.

All three police officers were casualties in the war against human evil that never ends. It’s an even dirtier and more unglamorous war than Iraq or Afghanistan. And police officers are hated in a way that it’s still socially unacceptable to hate soldiers. Ramos and Liu were the latest casualties of that hatred.

The police officer is the handyman of the welfare state. His job is to put his life on the line to plug the social leaks that the sociologists, consultants and social planners who made this mess had not foreseen. It’s his job to be there for a domestic violence complaint in a Florida motel at two in the morning or a failure of multiculturalism between two warring gangs in Oakland. He goes to places that the politicians don’t like to think about and deals with issues that the welfare state created and walked away from.

Progressives don’t believe in evil. It’s the beat cop who has to believe in it and clean it up.

The planners and politicians who allocate funds for new housing projects don’t have to patrol them at night. They don’t have to walk down a narrow concrete block hallway lined with dirty doors any of which can open at any minute with a gun behind it. The drug sentencing reformers have never had to carry a deranged screaming figure through the rusting doors of an emergency room. They have never had to get their soft shoes dirty walking through puddles of blood in an alleyway.

When liberalism fails, it’s the cop who gets the call. And when he does get the call, it’s the liberals who will be the first to call for his head.

It’s not enough that the cop has to clean up for the welfare state. He also has to be its scapegoat.

The chants of “Black lives matter” aren’t aimed at the gangs and drug dealers who rack up an astronomical number of black deaths; it’s aimed at the cops who put their lives on the line saving black lives. It’s the very people whose messes they clean up who hate them the most.

The police officer has come to embody America, abroad and at home, the nation that risks its lives to free peoples only to be despised for it, the nation that extends every benefit and privilege to its own criminals only to be shot and stabbed, raped and robbed for its endless generosity.

The American police officer was never supposed to be venturing into neighborhoods where no one speaks English and the locals see him as a member of an occupying army or patrolling in communities where gang members number in the thousands and could take down the entire local police force.

He was never supposed to be a social worker, a mediator, a medic and the commander of an invading army negotiating truces and treaties with the local tribes. And yet he is expected to be all these things and more. Every time he goes out he knows that he may face a choice between his life and his career.

If cops seem touchy, isolated or out of control it’s because they have been left hanging by a system that uses them to dam up the breakdown of a society without ever acknowledging that this is their job. Many urban police officers operate in environments where crime is not an aberration, but the norm. Like the American soldier, the police officer is better trained and more effective than ever before, but like the soldier he is also haunted by the sense that his work and his sacrifices are futile and unappreciated.

The police officer isn’t spending years in Iraq or Afghanistan; he’s spending decades in Chiraq. When his time ends, there will be no victory parades. Just the knowledge that he tried to make a difference and that unlike many brother officers, at least he made it to retirement.

Officer Daryl Pierson was shot and killed leaving behind a wife and two young children. Pierson had been an experienced officer. His killer, Thomas Johnson III, had been paroled after serving three years for an attempted armed robbery.

Officer Justin Winebrenner tried to get Kenan Ivery to leave a bar. Ivery drew a gun and shot and killed him. Officer Winebrenner was a second generation police officer. He left behind a 4-year-old daughter.

Officer Perry Renn responded to shots being fired and encountered Major Davis Jr. who was carrying a semi-automatic rifle. Davis Jr. had an extensive criminal record. He fired killing Officer Renn who had survived twenty-two years on the force.

Patrolman Jeffery Westerfield responded to a fight between Carl Le’Ellis Blount Jr. and his girlfriend. He never even got a chance to draw his gun or leave his squad car before Blount shot him in the head.

Deputy Sheriff Allen Bares was off duty when he saw a gold Lexus crash into a ditch. He approached the vehicle and was shot and killed. The two men inside, Quintylan Richard and Baylon Taylor, stole his truck and took off.

The police officers in all these cases were white. Their killers were black. But the police officers in many of these cases were trying to protect black people and black communities.

The killings all took place in a matter of months in 2014. And their numbers will only continue to grow.

While the wars abroad expand or contract, this is the war that will go on. Its soldiers will serve their tours of duty for decades on the streets of our own cities without having anywhere else to go home to. And when their time is up, they will never receive the thanks that they deserve because most of us will never understand the difference that they made.

When the left took over, it was the police officer who kept everything from going under in our major cities. It was not the politician or the planner, the sociologist or the social worker who kept the crime and chaos from sweeping everything away. It was the man in blue who did what had to be done.

Under Obama, when the criminal is king and the progressive planners are changing the country in ways unprecedented since the seventies, it’s still the lonely figure in the squad car that does his duty and holds the line in a thousand dark and dirty neighborhoods where gunshots and screams sound in the night. The American police officer has become the soldier of civilization fighting to keep it alive.

And somewhere a family wonders if their father or mother will come home tonight.

Cop-bashing New York mayor Bill de Blasio seems genuinely surprised at the ferocious backlash against him in light of the execution-style weekend killing of two local cops.

After spending the past year in office attacking police, the mayor is now scrambling to put the pin back into the grenade he threw into the local body politic. His crusade against the police goes back at least to his election campaign last year when he caustically criticized then-mayor Michael Bloomberg’s stop-and-frisk policy.

De Blasio is appealing for calm and for a temporary suspension of the ugly anti-police protests his incendiary rhetoric has spawned.

Strangely, this far-left radical who, like his ally in the White House never puts politics aside for the benefit of the community, is now asking New Yorkers to do precisely that.

So far the New York Police Department isn’t in a mood to forgive de Blasio who has teamed up with racial arsonist Al Sharpton to lay waste to what’s left of civil society in the Big Apple. Before the two murders Sharpton had been leading marches where the demonstrators chanted, “What do we want? Dead cops.” Taking cues from the Westboro Baptist Church, Sharpton followers showed up at one cop memorial service chanting and heckling the mourners.

NYPD union leaders have asked de Blasio to skip police funerals and a large gathering of cops turned their backs on the mayor as he showed up Saturday at the Brooklyn hospital where the lifeless bodies of officers Rafael Ramos, 40, and Wenjian Liu, 32, had been taken after they were shot dead by an adherent of the Religion of Peace.

The shooter, Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley, was a Muslim apparently upset at what he believed were the racist killings of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. and Eric Garner in Staten Island. He indicated he was planning to kill “pigs,” and as Robert Spencer notes, “Brinsley’s Facebook page featured a photo of the Qur’an open to the eighth chapter, where Allah exhorts the believers to ‘strike terror into the hearts of the enemies of Allah‘ (8:60).“

Since de Blasio was sworn in last New Year’s Day, New Yorkers have, in fits and starts, begun to realize that they elected a dangerously erratic Sandinista-loving radical as mayor. Although de Blasio’s reaction to the cop murders strikes many in the punditry as incompetent, they are being charitable. De Blasio’s behavior reflects his pathological, hateful, profoundly anti-American ideology. He can’t conceal his contempt for those whose job it is to promote law and order.

This is what happens when a small-c communist becomes mayor of the nation’s greatest metropolis.

Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, who helped turn New York from a crime-infested urban jungle into the relatively crime-free city his successors inherited, said it was “shameful” for politicians to drive a wedge between police and the communities they serve.

“Police misconduct is a minor part of the problem. Community, serious violent crime is a much bigger part of the problem,” Giuliani said.

“The people who are saving black lives in the city are [you] the New York City Police Department. I’m not doing it. President Obama’s not doing it. Mayor De Blasio’s not doing it. He’s not out at night walking down housing developments and trying to save children from being killed. Police officers are doing the most, right now, in these very very poor communities and sometimes they’re white communities, but where there are black communities and police officers are doing the most to save the children that are at greatest risk. The politicians with this propaganda separating the community from the police, are doing something that’s shameful and they have to stop doing that. The vast majority of police want to help and the politicians’ rhetoric should reflect the truth, not propaganda.”

But de Blasio isn’t anything like Giuliani or even like Bloomberg, his immediate predecessor, a micromanaging Big Gulp-grabber who now seems like an exemplar of common sense compared to the current mayor.

De Blasio is in many ways President Obama’s “mini me,” except unlike Obama, he has loud critics in the media who for the most part has not been giving him a free ride.

But de Blasio hasn’t generated all of this racial hostility and antipathy toward cops on his own. He’s had a lot of help from President Obama who has been trying to kickstart a wave of civil unrest since even before he took office. The president’s policy of trying to foment violent civil unrest is finally paying dividends.

Attacking the police, as Obama has been doing for years, isn’t exactly a courageous act. The police are easy targets for leftist agitators. Riling up minorities over real and imagined abuses is child’s play. Even Al Sharpton can do it.

On the 2008 campaign trail, the president belittled small town Americans, implying they were racist, a time-honored leftist smear of conservatives. “And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.“

Not too long after his inauguration in 2009 the new president mocked Cambridge, Mass. police by saying they “acted stupidly” by arresting Obama’s close personal friend, black liberal academic Henry Louis Gates Jr. This led to the seemingly pointless public relations event known as the so-called beer summit between James Crowley (the arresting officer), Gates, and Obama. There was never any evidence that Gates’s arrest had anything to do with his skin color. Arrester and arrestee agreed to disagree yet Obama succeeded in scoring points with his radical base.

Campaigning in 2010, Obama demonized non-Latinos.

“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies, and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us’ — if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election — then I think it’s going to be harder. And that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2nd.”

The same year he invoked Rosa Parks and segregation in order to ridicule Republicans. “We don’t mind the Republicans joining us,” Obama told the faithful. “They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back.”

In 2012 Obama suggested if he failed to win reelection minorities would suffer.

“The notion that we’re all in this together, that we look out for one another–that’s at stake in this election,” he said. “Don’t take my word for it. Watch some of these [Republican] debates that have been going on up in New Hampshire.” Later that year he added Republicans “want to take us back to the policies more suited to the 1950s than the 21st century.”

In 2012 he needlessly inserted race into the Trayvon Martin saga by saying, “if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.“ Although the shooter who was eventually acquitted, so-called white Hispanic George Zimmerman, wasn’t a police officer, he was an authority figure of sorts as a neighborhood watch volunteer.

Working with Sharpton, the Obama administration sicced the left-wing community organizers of the Justice Department’s Community Relations Service (CRS) on the unsuspecting people of Sanford, Fla. after the death of Martin. Evidence established that Martin attacked Zimmerman, who avoided legal liability because he acted in self-defense.

Even after the acquittal Obama insisted on meddling.
Protestors fight police after another shooting.

Another seemingly justified police shooting near Ferguson, MO briefly followed a sadly predictable script. In nearby Berkeley, a white police officer, aged 34, fired three shots, killing black American Antonio Martin, aged 18. The officer was responding to a report of stealing at a Mobil on the Run gas station. Martin allegedly pulled a 9mm handgun on the six-year veteran, who stumbled backwards as he fired, striking Martin once. “He will carry the weight of this for the rest of his life, certainly for the rest of his career,” said St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar, referring to the unidentified officer. “There are no winners here.”

Unfortunately, there were plenty of losers. Despite the efforts of Mayor Theodore Hoskins, who explained the shooting had been captured on a surveillance camera and a weapon was recovered on the scene, between 200 and 300 protesters gathered there and began fighting with police officers. One of three explosive devices (possible fireworks) tossed near gas pumps sent one officer to the hospital with injuries to his leg, while another sustained facial lacerations as a result of bricks thrown at the officers by the mob. Several police cars were also damaged by rocks protesters brought to the area. Four people were arrested for assault.

Belmar said he understood why a crowd would gather, but he noted that “to come there armed with explosive devices is certainly something that is not safe for our community, is not safe for our businesses and is certainly not safe for our officers.” He also addressed questions from the crowd as to why the officer couldn’t have used pepper spray or a Taser to subdue the victim. He characterized that response as “unreasonable.” “We had somebody who was pointing a gun at a police officer,” he explained. “With not a lot of time, I would imagine that most of us would feel like we were in imminent danger of losing our lives at that point. And I think the officer responded with what he thought was commensurate force at the time.”

“I understand the emotions and I understand these young people are looking for something, but I think we have to understand the context of what happens down there with these kinds of situations,” he added.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. Tuesday night. The officer encountered two men at the parking lot in the 6800 block of North Hanley Road and began talking to them. Belmar said one of the men approached the drivers side of the police vehicle. According to the police officer’s attorney, Brian Millikan, the other man kept wandering away despite the officer’s commands to remain close by.

One of the two men “produced a pistol with his arm straight out, pointing it straight at the officer kind of from across the hood,” Belmar said, further noting the police officer had a flashlight in his left hand and was near his driver’s side door while the armed man stood near the headlights on the passenger side of the vehicle. The officer proceeded to get his handgun “and fired what we think is three shots,” Belmar said. One struck Martin, one struck a tire on the police car, and the third shot remains unaccounted for.

After the shooting the officer was placed on administrative leave. Belmar revealed the suspect’s “defaced” 9 mm gun “had five rounds in the chamber and one round in the magazine.” He further revealed Martin had a criminal record that included three assault charges, as well as charges for armed robbery, armed criminal action and multiple unlawful uses of a weapon.

Millikan recounted further details provided to him by the officer hours after the shooting “The other guy was doing the talking, and as the cop starts talking, the suspect starts walking away again,” Millikan said. “At that point, the cop says, ‘Hey, come back here,’ and he turns around, pulls a gun from his left pant pocket. He’s trying to process all of this, and the suspect raises it, points it at him. The cop pulls his weapon and starts backpedaling and fired three or four shots. It happened that quickly. He doesn’t understand why the suspect’s gun didn’t fire. I’m not sure if he tried to pull the trigger and it jammed,” he added.

Millikan who further characterized the behavior of the two suspects as “bizarre” speculated that his client might have been set up for an ambush because the suspects remained at the scene after store employees called 911. “Their behavior is certainly bizarre, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all, in the environment we are in, that’s for sure,” he contended.

Belmar noted the officer dropped his flashlight when he stumbled while backpedaling, with Mayor Hoskins characterizing that as a blessing in disguise that may have saved the officer’s life. The officer had been given a body camera at the beginning of his shift, but wasn’t wearing it. Belmar said the officer was doing something else when it was handed out and simply forgot to put it on. The police car’s dashboard camera was also inoperative at the time because the car’s emergency lights were not on, Belmar explained.

All three men were relieved the incident was captured by surveillance cameras. Only the part prior to the shooting has been released so far. “The video goes on; there’s no reason for the family of this young man to have to see the rest of the video,” Belmar said, adding the department would be distributing more video from the scene, including footage of the officer retreating, to provide transparency.

According to Belmar, the officer was involved in a similar incident in 2011 or 2012, during which he and a suspect struggled for the officer’s gun. To prevent the suspect from using it, the officer purposefully dropped the magazine out of the weapon and fired the chambered round into the floor.

Martin’s family, who couldn’t be located initially, finally emerged. And while his mother admitted he had problems, it “doesn’t make any sense for them to kill my son like this,” Toni Martin-Green contended.

Belmar expressed condolence for both families. “These are nothing but tragedies,” he said. “This is a family right now that, regardless of the decisions that this individual made, are without a family member this Christmas season. This is also a tragedy for the police officer. He will carry the weight of this for the rest of his life, certainly for the rest of his career. This really underscores the task that our police officers across the nation have to deal with day in and day out as they answer these calls in our community,” he added.

Belmar also praised Berkeley Police Chief Frank McCall for helping to calm the protests that dissipated by 3 a.m., noting he had ordered his commanders to “let this emotion vent. Let this happen.” Hoskins was also adamant, “You can’t compare this to Ferguson or the Garner case in New York,” he said emphasizing the videotape showed Martin pointing a gun at the officer. Nonetheless, he promised an investigation would be conducted in addition to the one by the St. Louis County Police.

The Mayor also illuminated the racial breakdown of the department. Out of 31 officers, 17 or 18 are African-American, and approximately 75 percent of the command staff are black, along with the the mayor, police chief and other city officials. The community itself is just over 9,000 residents, 80 percent of whom are black American.

Hoskins made one stumble. “At this point, our review indicates that the police did not initiate this, like Ferguson,” he stated. Considering the Ferguson grand jury’s findings, that statement is disingenuous at best, and self-serving at worst. However, the Mayor did stand strong when his press conference was interrupted by black Baptist minister Jason Keith Coleman, who characterized the shooting as another act of aggression by “trigger happy” police officers. “Everybody don’t die the same,” Hoskins snapped back. “Some people die because they initiate it, and at this point, our review suggests police did not initiate it.”

Earlier that evening Belmar addressed equally spurious assertions, noting that he had “already seen through social media that this officer stopped (Martin), questioned him, frisked him and then killed him in cold blood — well, that’s not what you’re going to see when you see the video.”

Considering what has, and continues to transpire in New York and other hotspots around the nation, one might be forgiven for wondering whether it matters. Despite the successful efforts of local officials, a leftist agenda, replete with false narratives, continues to widen the divide between police and the communities they serve. It is driven by those for whom police officers will forever be “ trigger happy,” irrespective of evidence, because a divided America, along with the eternal victimization of black Americans, is the only thing that separates the racial arsonists from the irrelevance they so richly deserve. That includes our feckless president, who chooses to remain on the golf course in Hawaii while Vice President Joe Biden has been dispatched to attend the one of the two funerals of the two minority officers slain in New York City.

President Obama could have sent a powerful message with his attendance. Instead, he sends an equally powerful message with his absence. There is no political mileage to be gained by standing with police officers, even as his ideological fellow travelers stand against them, all of their protestations to the contrary notwithstanding. Like his execrable Attorney General Eric Holder, Obama prefers the company of uber race-baiter Al Sharpton. It is this trio of men, along with New York’s equally feckless Mayor, Bill de Blasio, who have cultivated the “us against them”mentality they see as a vehicle for the “fundamental transformation” of America.

Ultimately, Berkeley, MO may prove that such a transformation is far from inevitable. We are a far better nation than the American left would have us believe, and the bet here is most Americans are finally beginning to realize it, one in their face, over the top, cop-bashing—and killing—moment after another.

Lynch mobs have consequences.

A lynch mob is all fun and games until someone actually gets lynched.

At first everyone has a good time marching around and shouting “Black Lives Matter” and “I Can’t Breathe.” The police are accused of being racist killers by the defenders of actual racist killers like Mumia Abu Jamal. Every community organizer within a thousand miles shows up to brandish signs claiming cops are randomly killing innocent black men even as he spits and throws bottles at any cop within reach. Not to mention engaging in the occasional act of convenience store redistribution.

The Mayor of New York City announces that his ridiculously famous son has to be afraid of the police. Obama agrees that his imaginary son also has to be afraid of the police. Their claims are equally plausible.

The lynch mobs make it their mission to invade holiday events, protest parades and scream racist rants. Then they begin attacking police officers. The media insists that protests whose participants chant, “What do we want? Dead cops!” are peaceful.

This homicidally insane definition of “peaceful” had only previously been applied to Islam.

And then, shockingly, surprisingly, out of the blue, protests led by Al Sharpton featuring violent attacks on cops finally achieve their goal with the murder of two police officers.

Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley announced on Instagram, “I’m Putting Wings On Pigs Today. They Take 1 Of Ours…Let’s Take 2 of Theirs.” #ShootThePolice #RIPErivGarner #RIPMike Brown.

It may have been the first murder that came with its own progressive social media hashtags.

But even the most violently peaceful lynch mobs eventually end with a lynching. There is no such thing as a peaceful lynch mob. There is no such thing as peacefully supporting a lynch mob.

Al Sharpton is not just an MSNBC talk show host. He isn’t a goofy fellow who mispronounces things on the teleprompter. He isn’t these things just as he wasn’t a funny fat man in a track suit wearing a gold medallion the size of the Bronx around his neck.

Those are the things that make him seem like a joke. And he isn’t a joke. He leads lynch mobs.

Sharpton led a lynch mob through Crown Heights and racist violence tore the neighborhood apart and took lives. He led a lynch mob to a store in Harlem and the store burned with employees inside.

That is what lynch mobs do.

Since then Sharpton slimmed down and swapped out colorful track suits for expensive custom made Soho pinstripe suits. He became a regular visitor to the White House and City Hall. He spoke at the Democratic National Convention and got a slot on that party’s favorite news network.

And then twenty years later he brought back the lynch mobs. And once again people died.

Two cops are dead in New York City because Barack Obama, Bill de Blasio and the Democratic Party embraced Sharpton and everything he stood for. They embraced his racist ideology of hate.

They made their party into the party of crime.

Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu weren’t white. Their only crime was being cops in a city whose radical left-wing mayor and media had signed off on an anti-cop campaign. Their deaths are a bloody reminder that black racism isn’t limited to white people.

The elites celebrating the return of left-wing rule to New York City after decades of Republicans in Gracie Mansion had forgotten the most important lesson that New Yorkers of all races had learned during the years of Sharpton’s terror; black racist lynch mobs kill as surely as white ones do.

Now Bill de Blasio is wiping away crocodile tears at a press conference while Al Sharpton and the gang of gutter activists that trails these protests is pretending to be shocked and surprised that their lynch mobs actually killed two cops. The same media that had been ridiculing the NYPD for its “hysterical” warnings that the racist lynch mobs would cost lives is also putting on its best shocked face for the cameras.

Sharpton is doing what he always does best: Playing provocateur and then trying to wash his hands of the consequences. Al never kills anyone. He just riles up the mob and someone in the mob does the dirty work. Al works the mob and through him the mob has a direct line to the White House.

When FDR put Hugo Black in the Supreme Court, he put the Klan on the Court. The Democratic Party’s hate groups and lynch mobs may have changed color, but everything else stayed the same.

When Obama made Sharpton his messenger to the black community, when Bill de Blasio let Sharpton and his people control city government and when Attorney General Eric Schneiderman promised that Sharpton would have an “annex” in the state capitol, the Democratic Party embraced the man whose racist rhetoric took more lives than the 1963 Birmingham church bombing.

The Democratic Party and its top politicians didn’t just endorse Sharpton. They endorsed his tactics and his hate. Now the blood of two murdered police officers is on their hands.

“The mayor’s hands are literally dripping with our blood because of his words, actions and policies,” the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association has said. “The blood of 2 executed police officers is on the hands of Mayor de Blasio,” is the message from the Sergeants Benevolent Association.

But Bill de Blasio did not act alone. He did what the rest of his party had gotten used to doing. The Democratic Party reverted to its roots of a party of crime. It forgot the lesson of the Willie Horton ad. It tested the waters by promoting “sentencing reform” for drug dealers and then it went all in by race-baiting the Michael Brown and Eric Garner cases. It was so enthused about recruiting community organizers and increasing black turnout that it forgot that lynch mobs don’t vote. They kill.

Suddenly the tactics that Sharpton had pioneered in his track suit days became the face of the Democratic Party. New Tawana Brawleys were crawling out from under every rock in the nation. Innocents senselessly attacked by vile cops whose stories turned out to be about as real as Sharpton’s tax records. Everyone was having fun telling lies and screaming hate and then cops began to die.

Now the Democratic Party’s top crooks are clumsily trying to wash away the cop blood on their hands.

Attorney General Eric Holder can’t headline Sharpton’s events and then pretend to be upset when two cops are killed. Neither can Bill de Blasio or Barack Obama. Their phony condemnations don’t come with a promise to abandon the pro-crime politics and policies that led to the murder of two police officers.

Targeting the police makes it difficult for the police to defend themselves or anyone else. When the police can’t defend themselves, then they pull back. When they pull back, crime takes off. Cities become terrifying places. The middle class flees. Thriving cities go bankrupt and become permanent welfare cases. They become Democratic Party plantations. That’s what Obama and De Blasio wanted.

There is one fundamental question that must be asked of Obama, of Holder, of de Blasio and the media; are we a nation of laws or a nation of lynch mobs?

Obama claimed that the racist protests were needed because a “country’s conscience has to be triggered by some inconvenience.” Attorney General Eric Holder said that the protests provided “momentum to a necessary conversation.”

Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley concluded Holder’s conversation by reminding us of what the stakes are.

We cannot function as a nation when a political party representing half the country decides that it wants to stand with criminals against police officers, with racists and race-baiters against working families and with lynch mobs against anyone who gets in their way.

It’s not only the blood of these two police officers that is on their hands, but the blood of every victim of crime who could have been saved if the Democratic Party had not embraced gun control, sentencing reform and criminal rights.

After Dukakis got thumped and Dinkins got dumped, the Democratic Party pretended to reform. It pretended to understand that Americans wanted it to stand with cops, not criminals.

Now it’s back to its criminal ways.

Lynch mobs have consequences. So do crack dealers, serial rapists and armed robbers. Standing up to crime also means standing up to politicians who support crime.

What the statistics really say.

In an era where public debate is replete with Big Lies, we are routinely treated to examples of shallow, insipid journalism dedicated to propping up the most nonsensical fictions imaginable. A case in point is a piece that appeared in the far-left periodical Mother Jones, titled “Exactly How Often Do Police Shoot Unarmed Black Men?” Purporting to explain the root causes of the racial unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, the article’s author, Mother Jones editorial coordinator Jaeah Lee, presents a smattering of statistics—utterly devoid of context or analysis—as evidence that “the killing of Michael Brown by police … was no anomaly.”

For instance, Lee cites a 2007 study which found that in ten major cities “there were a disproportionately high number of African Americans among police shooting victims,” and another which concluded that “black people are more likely than whites or Hispanics to experience a police officer’s threat or use of force.” To buttress these allegations, the author quotes Missouri ACLU official Jeffrey Mittman’s lamentation that “unarmed African-American men are shot and killed by police at an alarming rate,” and NAACP president Cornell Williams Brooks’ claim that a destructive “culture of policing” is “rubbing salt into longstanding racial wounds” by targeting black people with “overwhelmingly major, often lethal … force.”

Apparently it never occurred to Ms. Lee, or to these other voices in her echo chamber, that there might be some significance in the fact that blacks, who are 13% of the U.S. population, themselves commit many more homicides than white and Hispanic perpetrators—combined. Young black males in particular commit homicide at nearly ten times the combined rate of their white and Hispanic counterparts. As Manhattan Institute scholar Heather Mac Donald explains, “That astronomically higher homicide-commission rate means that police officers are going to be disproportionately in black neighborhoods to fight crime, where they will more likely encounter armed shooting suspects.” Blacks nationwide are also dramatically overrepresented in the commission of other serious crimes such as rape, robbery, and assault—precisely the types of offenses most likely to trigger a confrontation with police that could result in a fatality.

In her Mother Jones piece, Ms. Lee devotes considerable attention to New York City, where “more black people have been shot by NYPD officers … than have Hispanics or whites.” But this begs an obvious question: “So what?” The same principle that applies to the United States as a whole, applies also to New York: While blacks constitute 23% of the city’s population, they commit two-thirds of all its violent crimes, including nearly 70% of all robberies and 80% of all shootings. And whites, who are 35% of the city’s population, commit just 5% of its violent crimes and a mere 1.8% of its shootings. Thus, blacks are statistically far more likely to be involved in volatile situations demanding police intervention. It’s really not very complicated.

The Mother Jones article also presents a chart with a racial breakdown of those who were shot and killed by New York City police between 2000 and 2011. Yet remarkably, the author makes no mention of the glaring fact that instances of police-on-Asian shootings are nearly invisible in this chart—indeed, blacks, Hispanics, and whites alike are far more likely than Asians to be shot in police encounters. What could explain this? If we were to apply Ms. Lee’s line of reasoning, we’d have no choice but to conclude that New York police officers, for some reason, feel less racial animus against Asians than they feel against everyone else. A more realistic explanation is that Asians in the city have very low crime rates and thus have comparatively little contact with police.

The most comprehensive information we have on the issue of police shootings and race in recent years comes from a 2011 Bureau of Justice Statistics study that covers the period from 2003 to 2009. Of all suspects who are known to have been killed by law-enforcement officers during that time frame, 41.7% were white, 31.7% were black, and 20.3% were Hispanic. Also during that period, blacks accounted for about 38.5% of all arrests for violent crimes—i.e., the types of crimes most likely to lead to a potentially fatal confrontation with police. These numbers do not in any way suggest a lack of restraint by police in their dealings with black suspects. On the contrary, they suggest the exact opposite.

Funny how the real world rarely conforms to the certainties of the race-obsessed Left, isn’t it?

The Jewish people have a right to pray on the Temple Mount.

Jewish presence in the land of Israel goes back more than 3,000 years. Jews prayed for millennia, while separated from the land, to be able to return. Once they did return, the people sacrificed in order to build and protect the land.

And now, the Jew who is passionate about Jewish rights and Jewish attachment to the land is viewed as a “radical right winger,” a troublemaker.

The world at large certainly sees matters this way: If only nationalist Jews would relent already, then Israel could reach an agreement with the Palestinian Arabs and there could be peace. But the fanatic and troublesome right-wingers keep getting in the way.

The reason that Jews who seek Jewish rights are seen as troublemakers is because the Arabs tend to negotiate by way of violence and threats.

A tendency towards violence is inherent in the Arab Muslim culture. We are not looking at a modern phenomenon, but at a situation that has persisted for centuries. We see it in the way children are treated in this society, and the fact that it is considered permissible if not necessary sometimes to kill women for the sake of family honor. It is well known among those who deal with these issues that terrorists who kill Jews then mutilate their bodies. Relief and satisfaction derive from gruesome expressions of violence?

The true roots of deep Muslim Arab anger, expressed via overt violence, are not “the occupation” or the lack of a Palestinian state. Social scientists find it in such things as sexual abuse of young boys (also common in the culture); this perpetuates violence as the boys grow up angry.

But now the situation is being exacerbated by Palestinian Arab leaders, so-called, who use this tendency towards violence for political gain, inciting their people rather than seeking to reduce tensions in the street. They are manipulating the crowds. For the Muslim Arab culture that is so prone to violence is also an honor/shame culture. The perception that they have been “dissed,” treated with disrespect, foments anger and then violence. And the messages being delivered by the likes of Mahmoud Abbas to the Palestinian Arabs is precisely this: that they are being treated with disrespect by Israel.

This culture is not big on compromise, either. To compromise is to forgo part of what you are entitled to, and this diminishes your honor.

What happens then is that the Jew who seeks his or her rights is seen as “causing” Arab riots and attacks. How much more peaceful it would be, if only these Jews would stop insisting on things that irritate the Palestinian Arabs. Sounds crazy/unreasonable/simplistic, but that indeed is what is happening. Palestinian Arabs, who are collectively bullies, are being broadly embraced anyway. Either their violence is perceived as justified, or it is simply deemed wise to give them what they want to keep them quiet.

It is particularly important to deal with this issue now because Rabbi Yehuda Glick, who speaks for Jewish rights on the Temple Mount, endured an attack on his life in Jerusalem last Wednesday and faces a long struggle for recovery. Since he was shot, he has been referred to again and again in the media as “far right,” “radical” and more. No one says, “Well, he deserved it.” But implicit is the notion that if only he, and others like him, were less passionate about the Temple Mount there would be less Palestinian Arab anger. People like Rav Yehuda are seen as stirring the unrest.

But this has precious little to do with who Yehuda Glick really is:

Invariably, his friends and family say he is a gentle, non-confrontational soul, who would be delighted for good relations with Muslims.

He calls the Temple the House of Prayer for All Nations. This concept is built into Jewish tradition: In the days to come, all monotheistic religions are to have a share in the Temple to be built on the Mount one day. Isaiah 56:7 – “…for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.”

While he doesn’t back down from Jewish rights he readily explains this vision, describing the possibility that the Muslim Dome of the Rock could be retained as part of the Temple, if the Muslims would be peaceful and share in an effort to cooperate.

And he has been filmed joining in a prayer session with Arabs at the Mount.

Some radical extremist!

When Israel liberated the Old City and the Temple Mount in 1967, Defense Minister Moshe Dayan made a very foolish – a very bad – decision. He turned to the Muslims in charge on the Mount – the Wakf or Muslim Trust – and told them that they would continue to manage day to day affairs there.

The worst of what he did was to rule that there would be no Jewish praying on the Mount, so as to not upset the status quo there.

It is not at all certain that Dayan’s motivation in doing this was proper, and it is clear that, as he was not a religious Jew himself, he saw the Mount more as a site of historical interest than one of on-going religious concern. But we can give him the benefit of the doubt in this respect: he probably didn’t understand Muslim Arab mentality or how matters would evolve.

Over the years Jews have petitioned for the right to pray on the Mount. This issue was last brought before the High Court in 2006, at which point it was said that only if “there is concrete information about actual danger to life” should Jewish praying be forbidden. But ultimately, the matter was left in the hands of the police, who prefer preventing Jewish prayer so that it is not necessary to send in reinforcements to contend with Arab rioting.

But how outrageous that in the Jewish state, where the rights of all religious groups are protected, it should be impossible for Jews to pray in the place that is holiest to Jews.

Over the last few years, there has been movement by Muslim groups to libel Israel, in order to arouse the people: The totally fallacious claim that Jews are about to destroy the Al Aksa Mosque on the Mount has been put out regularly.

But now it has gotten much worse: there is a battle cry that the Mount is totally the heritage of the Muslims and that Jews have no business setting foot on it. Declared Abbas just days ago:

“It is our sacred place, al-Aksa [mosque] is ours, this Noble Sanctuary [as Muslims refer to the Temple Mount] is ours. They have no right to go there and desecrate it.”

Abbas put out calls to “protect” the Mount from Jews. And then, when it was closed to everyone for a day, after the attempted assassination of Yehuda Glick, he called for a “day of rage,” because Muslims may never be prevented from entering the Mount for any reason. This unleashed additional violence – with the throwing of pipe-bombs at police and much more in eastern Jerusalem Arab neighborhoods on Friday night and Saturday.

Palestinian Media Watch has reported that last week, before the conference on the Temple Mount, at which Yehuda Glick spoke:

“[F]ormer PA Prime Minister and PLO Executive Committee member Ahmed Qurei (Abu Alaa) issued a press release in which he condemned ‘the danger’ of the conference organized by Glick and warned of ‘extremist biblical plans encouraging settlers and extremist Jews to carry out large-scale invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and calling on the entire Jewish nation to invade the Mosque.’ He also stated that Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque are ‘undergoing one of the most dangerous periods since the beginning of the Israeli occupation’ and that it necessitates ‘immediate intervention.’”

At the same time, there has been a growing sense of outrage among religious Jews that prayer on the Mount is not permitted. Members of the Jewish Home party have been advancing legislation that would allocate different periods of time and different areas for Jewish and Muslim prayer on the Mount. This proposal, which is altogether fair and equitable, is modeled after the pattern of shared praying time for the Machpela [Cave of the Patriarchs] in Hebron.

It will not succeed at this point, however, because Prime Minister Netanyahu will block it. His rallying cry has been one of calling for “restraint” and maintaining “the status quo” on the Temple Mount.

To Israelis, he is saying that he will not permit the advancement of legislation for praying on the Mount, and to Arabs, that he will not permit the co-opting of the Mount by Muslims in a way that excludes Jews.

It is easy to understand Netanyahu’s unease. Now even the Arab League has weighed in with threats. Arab League deputy chief Ahmed Ben Hilli has called on Arabs and the international community “to put a stop to these practices by the Israeli occupation authorities in Jerusalem. Touching Jerusalem will lead to results with untold consequences.” But these are only threats. The Arab states have enough on their plates to contend with, without throwing their weight around on this issue.

However, we must be honest and recognize that the time of the “status quo” has already come to an end. Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, Director of the Temple Institute, says the Mount “has become a stronghold of Islam. The Arabs get tons of money just to have a presence there and intimidate Jews who dare to ascend the Mount.”

Unless the Jewish presence on the Mount is strengthened, Israeli influence will continue to diminish, with consequences that are unthinkable.

As mentioned above, it is the Muslim Wakf that is in control on the Mount, at least theoretically. And it is a Jordanian Wakf (not a PA Wakf). The Jordanians have a role in what is going on.

Their peace treaty with Israel notwithstanding, they participate in threats, and have done everything in their power to diminish Israeli influence on the Mount. King Abdullah has just declared that he will work against “Israeli unilateralism” in Jerusalem and there have been mumblings about Jordan breaking its peace treaty with Israel over these matters.

King Abdullah is shaky on his throne. He is contending with a host of radical forces at his border, thousands of Syrian refugees inside of his border, and pressure from Palestinian Arabs. Thus he plays it in a manner that he believes will best protect him.

And, consequently, Netanyahu has always done a very careful balancing act with Jordan. It is in the Israeli interest that the king should not fall.

With all of this said, however, it is instructive to consider the text of the 1994 Peace Treaty Agreement between Israel and Jordan. With regard to this issue, it says (emphasis added):

ARTICLE 9

PLACES OF HISTORICAL AND RELIGIOUS SIGNIFICANCE

1. Each party will provide freedom of access to places of religious and historical significance…

2. In this regard, in accordance with the Washington Declaration, Israel respects the present special role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Muslim Holy shrines in Jerusalem. When negotiations on the permanent status will take place, Israel will give high priority to the Jordanian historic role in these shrines. (This has to do with Israel not giving the PA priority on the Mount.)

3. The Parties will act together to promote interfaith relations among the three monotheistic religions, with the aim of working towards religious understanding, moral commitment, freedom of religious worship, and tolerance and peace.

Not only does this not give Jordan great power on the Mount, it would seem that Jordan has been severely remiss in meeting its responsibilities. Freedom of access to places of religious significance? Freedom of religious worship? Well, now.

Housing Minister Uri Ariel (Habayit Hayehudi) has it right:

“I hear the Jordanians are threatening the peace agreement and [I] wonder if they have forgotten the Six Day War and the years in which King Hussein leaned on Israel. The Temple Mount and Jerusalem are under Israeli sovereignty just as Amman is under the absolute rule of Jordan. They should internalize this fact.”

THIS is the sort of talk we need to hear more of from the Israeli government.

Yet another convert to Islam takes center stage.

The nation of Canada is reeling today from a brutal terrorist attack in the capital city of Ottawa that claimed the life of Canadian reservist Nathan Cirillo. The attacker has been identified as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, a 32-year-old convert to Islam, who was killed by authorities as he opened fire inside the Canadian Parliament. The incident comes just two days after two Canadian soldiers were deliberately struck by a speeding vehicle driven by another Islamic convert, leaving one soldier dead. The twin attacks have demonstrated that even the unassuming nation of Canada is not immune to the threat of Islamic terrorism, which once again has been allowed to flourish under a lax regime of global leadership.

Shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, Zehaf-Bibeau, using a keffiyeh to cover his face and brandishing a long-barreled rifle, approached the Canadian National War Memorial, dedicated to the memory of Canadian soldiers who have lost their lives in defense of their country. Clp. Cirillo was standing watch at the Tomb of the Unknown solider when he was shot in the abdomen by Zehaf-Bibeau at point-blank range. Zehaf-Bibeau then ran into the Canadian Parliament, where he was killed following a shoot-out with authorities.

Cpl. Cirillo, a 24-year-old father, was rushed to the hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries. A parliamentary guard sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the attack and is said to be recovering.

Warning signs for Canadians have abounded in recent weeks. In early October, reports broke that an ISIS-connected terrorist plot, allegedly targeting a shopping mall and the U.S. embassy in Ottawa, had been thwarted by authorities. A day before the public learned of the attack, Canadian intelligence and security agencies briefed Canadian lawmakers on the threat of Islamic radicalism growing inside the country. However, while officials ultimately downplayed the idea that an attack was imminent, less than a week ago the government quietly raised the domestic terrorism threat level to medium for the first time in four years.

“This week’s events are a grim reminder that Canada is not immune to the types of terrorist attacks we have seen elsewhere around the world,” a visibly shaken Prime Minster Stephen Harper said in a statement to the nation Wednesday. Harper vowed that the attack would lead Canada to “strengthen our resolve and redouble our efforts, and those of our national security agencies, to take all necessary steps to identify and counter threats and keep Canada safe here at home.”

Worried Canadians should not be heartened by Harper’s pronouncements given what we have learned about officals’ alleged monitoring of Zehaf-Bibeau and other like-minded terrorists embedded in Canadian society. Zehaf-Bibeau, born Michael Joseph Hall, had been known to Canadian authorities for his jihadist proclivities and potential for violence. He had recently been designated by the government as a “high-risk traveler” and had his passport seized out of fear that he was liable to commit acts of terrorism abroad. Despite a long criminal history of drug trafficking, credit-card forgery, robbery, and multiple stints in jail, Zehaf-Bibeau could not be taken off the streets.

The disconcerting facts surrounding Zehaf-Bibeau are eerily similar to those of Martin Couture-Rouleau, a.k.a. “Ahmad LeConverti” (Ahmad the Converted), the Canadian Muslim convert who ran a car into two Canadian soldiers on Monday in the Quebec city of Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, claiming the life of one of the victims. Couture-Rouleau was arrested and questioned in July when he attempted to fly out of Canada to Turkey. Couture-Rouleau’s passport had also been seized in an attempt to prevent him from traveling abroad and taking up arms with fellow Islamic terrorists.

Ninety other individuals like Zehaf-Bibeau and Couture-Rouleau are reportedly on a Royal Canadian Mounted Police watch list due to suspicion that they have or are planning to participate in militant activities abroad. At least 80 individuals present in the country are believed by Canadian intelligence to have gone overseas to participate in terrorist activities, and as many as 145 Canadians around the world are said by intelligence to be actively involved in terrorist groups.

The same is true for many Western countries. Approximately 100 individuals from the U.S. are believed by the National Counterterrorism Center to have attempted to leave the country to fight alongside ISIS jihadists. The FBI estimates that a dozen Americans are currently fighting in Iraq and Syria, while Rep. Tim Bishop (D-NY) reports that that some 40 U.S. citizens have been allowed re-entry into the country after fighting with ISIS. According to the Obama administration, this is their right.

“Ultimately, an American citizen, unless their passport is revoked, is entitled to come back,” FBI Director James Comey declared earlier this month. “So, someone who’s fought with ISIL, with an American passport wants to come back, we will track them very carefully.”

Yet the events in Canada of the last several days have cast doubt on the reliability of the purported “careful tracking” strategy.

“If you want to go to Syria and Iraq, please go, but never come back,” Geert Wilders told FrontPage’s Jamie Glazov on this week’s episode of The Glazov Gang. In this prophetic warning against the policy of barring known ISIS jihadists from exiting Western countries, Wilders pinpointed why Canadian soldiers like Cpl. Cirillo needlessly, and tragically, lose their lives at the hand of jihad. By refusing to allow highly “motivated” jihadists to leave, Western governments have made, in Wilders’ words, “our own streets, our own airports, our own train stations, our own malls, very dangerous places to be.”

*

Half a decade of denial from the Obama administration.

On November 5, 2009, at Ford Hood, Texas, U.S. soldiers were getting their final medical checkups before deploying to Afghanistan. Major Nidal Malik Hasan, an Army psychiatrist began gunning down the soldiers. His victims, all unarmed, included Francheska Velez, a 21-year-old private from Chicago who pleaded for the life of her unborn child. The Muslim major killed two other women that day along with 10 men, more than twice as many victims as the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993.

Hasan also wounded 33 others, including Sergeant Alonzo Lunsford, who played dead then fled the building. Major Hasan chased down Lunsford, an African-American, and shot him seven times, including one bullet in the back. Firing a high-capacity handgun fitted with laser sights, Major Hasan shot Sergeant Shawn Manning in the chest and pumped four rounds into Sgt. Patrick Zeigler. Hasan would have killed and wounded more if civilian police officer Kim Munley had not wounded the assailant, who yelled “Allahu akbar,” as he killed. That familiar cry was hardly the only indicator of Hasan’s motives.

Hasan had been emailing terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki about the prospect of killing infidel American soldiers, and the “Soldier of Allah,” as he called himself, did everything but take out an ad on the Super Bowl to announce his jihadist intentions. The U.S. security establishment was well aware of the communications but did nothing to stop Hasan, who claimed to be acting on behalf of the Taliban. Anwar al-Awlaki was orgasmic with joy that Hasan had done his duty.

President Barack Obama’s first response to Hasan’s mass murder was brief, low key, and failed to ascribe any responsibility to Islamic terrorism. “We cannot fully know what leads a man to do such a thing,” the president said. Such breathtaking denial soon became official policy. The Obama administration’s Department of Defense issued Protecting the Force: Lessons from Fort Hood, which contains not a single reference to jihad or jihadists. Its only mention of “Islamic” is an endnote reference to “Countering Violent Islamic Extremism,” a 2007 FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin.

The United States Army and federal government did not call Hasan’s attack terrorism or even gun violence. Major Hasan killed African Americans, hispanics and non-Muslims, but the government did not call the attack a hate crime. Rather, the government proclaimed the murder spree a case of “workplace violence,” an absurdity for the ages with consequences for the Hasan’s victims. The refused to classify Hasan’s attack as terrorism rendered victims ineligible for medals and other benefits related to combat.

Hasan remained in the Army, retained his rank of major, and the Army continued to pay his full salary. The Army also took care of the paralyzing injuries Hasan sustained, but Alonzo Lunsford told reporters the army refused to cover an operation to remove a bullet still in his body, and docked his pay when he was undergoing treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder. “We don’t get passes the way Major Hasan got passes,” Lunsford told the New York Times. “Each one of us has gotten a raw deal somewhere down the line.” In April, the White House declined Alonzo Lunsford’s request to meet with the president and explain how the government mistreated victims of the 2009 attack.

In August of 2013, a panel of 13 military officers handed down a death sentence for Major Hasan, but the sentence may never be carried out. The U.S. military has not executed an active-duty soldier since 1961, a span of more than half a century. The appeal process is lengthy and the final call goes to the President of the United States. The current incumbent is Barack Obama and Major Hasan showcases the opportunities for “Soldiers of Allah” under the Obama administration.

They can join the U.S. Army and still get promoted. They can correspond freely with the most bloodthirsty foreign terrorists, and those conducting the surveillance will do nothing to stop them from killing 13 American soldiers on a U.S. Army base. The Army, government, and president will provide cover by calling this workplace violence instead of terrorism. So the Soldier of Allah escapes with his own life and in prison continues to inspire other jihadists.

The month before Major Hasan’s trial, Rudy Giuliani said, “you can’t fight an enemy you don’t acknowledge.” The next president, who will also be Commander in Chief, will have an opportunity to acknowledge the enemy, recognize Major Hasan’s massacre as terrorism, and execute the terrorist on day one. As one of his victims said, he doesn’t deserve to live.

Damn the evidence. Full speed ahead.

The cop-hating radical lawyers of Eric Holder’s Justice Department are reportedly continuing to feed the passions of the lynch mob in Ferguson, Mo., that is screaming for the blood of the white cop who shot and killed a young black man earlier this month in what now almost certainly appears to be an act of self-defense.

A white police officer’s racism, an allegation for which there is no evidence whatsoever, supposedly caused the unfortunate incident. But the leftists who run the federal government need this. They want it badly. A police officer has to be sacrificed to appease Democrats’ political base and to help fend off an increasingly likely Republican takeover of the U.S. Senate in November.

Federal civil rights charges may be in the works against Darren Wilson, the white police officer who shot Michael Brown after an intense physical altercation that left Wilson with severe head injuries.

The feds may simply ignore local authorities and go forward with a case against Wilson, says Hans von Spakovsky, who worked in the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division under President George W. Bush. He is currently a senior legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation and is co-author of the recently published Obama’s Enforcer: Eric Holder’s Justice Department.

“Eric Holder has completely politicized the Justice Department,” von Spakovsky told WND’s Greg Corombos. “As we can see, unfortunately, this is happening in other places like the Travis County (Texas) D.A.’s office” that charged Texas Gov. Rick Perry with a crime for threatening to veto legislation.

“That should concern every American,” he said. “I don’t care what their political background is because that is a threat to everyone’s liberty and everyone’s freedom when that kind of power is used for political purposes.”

Von Spakovsky said,

“I am fearful that they will try to pursue a federal case even if there’s no evidence to justify it, because of the fact that they really see everything, including Eric Holder, through the prism of race even when race is not a factor in a case or an incident.”

It is true that left-wing zealots who believe as an article of faith that America is racist insist, despite mounting exculpatory evidence, that Brown was murdered by a white policeman. They will not be dissuaded no matter how much proof accumulates that the officer fired on Brown because he believed his life was in danger.

Holder’s visit came as the Left’s narrative that the nearly 300-lbs. Brown, who had just robbed a convenience store minutes before encountering decorated policeman Darren Wilson, was an innocent gentle giant trying to surrender, continues to circle the drain. More witnesses are reportedly coming forward to identify Brown as the aggressor in a vicious attack on Wilson in which he tried to grab the gun of the six-year veteran of the Ferguson police force.

It is clear that the violent mob actions of the nearly two week-old freak show in Ferguson don’t actually bother Holder, who it seems safe to say is only feigning disapproval of the rampant criminality there. This shouldn’t surprise anyone who understands the Left. Mob rule, that is Marxist mobocracy, is the model of governance preferred by Marxist community organizers like Barack Obama. Civil unrest is an opportunity, not a tragedy. The more bodies, the better.

The Department of Justice has become a racial-grievance incubator since President Obama was sworn in.

Obama tried to install cop-killer advocate Debo Adegbile as the head of the DoJ’s Civil Rights Division whose ambulance-chasing radical attorneys are now looking for trouble on the ground in Ferguson. Adegbile is a race-obsessed lawyer who, when he was head of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, tried to permanently free unrepentant cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, now a black leftist folk hero.

“Mumia,” as his fans call him, has parlayed his 1981 murder of white Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner into a career behind bars. Born Wesley Cook, the former Black Panther enjoys celebrity status on the Left and is a frequent guest speaker (via recorded audio) at college commencement ceremonies.

Adegbile’s nomination, which was rejected by the Senate earlier this year, was “an in-the-face appointment,” according to J. Christian Adams.

While at the NAACP’s legal arm, the organization became increasingly radical, opposing criminal-background checks by employers and pushing extreme racial-hiring quotas. “They took positions far outside of the mainstream of the law, far outside existing jurisprudence as it relates to race, and really advanced a fringe agenda,” Adams said previously. “If he attempts to do the same at the Justice Department, it will be a catastrophe.”

Adegbile appeared to be an adherent of Critical Race Theory, the multiculturalist Left’s race-obsessed spinoff of critical legal theory. Federal appeals judge Richard Posner has described critical race theorists as the “lunatic core” of “radical legal egalitarianism.” They believe that the white-dominated American system is hopelessly racist. To remedy this imbalance, non-whites should be given preferential treatment, they say.

Although they would never say it in public, Holder and his ilk believe that obviously guilty defendants like Abu-Jamal should go free if there is police abuse or racial discrimination in their communities. Holder is an ideologue who believes that the legal system should be used to dispense favors to non-whites. White Americans, he feels, should be treated as second-class citizens in order to make up for America’s past racial injustices, real or perceived.

Adegbile had been nominated to replace the notorious Thomas Perez, a radical who was barely confirmed by the Senate as labor secretary on a strict party line vote of 54 to 46. As the nation’s top civil rights enforcer at the Department of Justice, Perez refused to prosecute hate crimes committed against white Americans. He was reportedly instrumental in the Justice Department’s dismissal of a case involving two members of the New Black Panther Party who intimidated white voters in Philadelphia on Election Day 2008.

Perez helped to enact the Church Arson Prevention Act, which was based on the false premise that black churches were being targeted with disproportionate frequency by arsonists. He targeted Maricopa County, Ariz. Sheriff Joe Arpaio, for legal harassment because he doesn’t like Arpaio’s tough-on-crime approach, especially with respect to illegal aliens.

Lawyers from the Criminal Section of the Department of Justice’s (DoJ) Civil Rights Division are working behind the scenes, fanning the flames, trying to figure out how to stick it to the accused policeman.

J. Christian Adams of PJ Media said his organization had to sue Holder to get the resumes of the attorneys who work for the Criminal Section.

It turned out that “all of Holder’s attorney hires were leftists, some even with a history of anti-police activities,” said Adams, a Justice Department whistle-blower who chronicled the vicious racial politics of the DoJ’s Civil Rights Division in his bestselling book, Injustice: Exposing the Racial Agenda of the Obama Justice Department.

“Why does it matter that the DOJ unit that will investigate the Ferguson police is stacked with leftists and ideologues?” Adams writes. “Because anti-police biases of lawyers in this unit have resulted in gross prosecutorial misconduct against police officers.”

Here is one example. Federal prosecutors desperate to nail New Orleans cops on flimsy civil rights charges have surreptitiously used social media “to circumvent ethical obligations, professional responsibilities, and even to commit violations of the Code of Federal Regulations,” a judge found.

A prosecutor in the case, identified as Karla Dobinski, egged on other anonymous bloggers who “repeatedly posted vigorous pro-prosecution statements strongly condemning the defendants, their witnesses, and their entire defense.”

Remember that the DoJ under Holder has also collaborated with the ACORN-affiliated Project Vote to weaken electoral integrity laws.

To the Left, the ends justify the means.

Meanwhile, the so-called protesters that the media say have been peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights, have been throwing bottles of urine, presumably from humans, at the police in Ferguson. It’s a biohazard, a biochemical weapons attack of sorts, given that cytomegalovirus (CMV, also known as herpes) can be transmitted through contact with urine, according to medical literature. At least they’re not hurling pathogen-rich fecal projectiles, as their Occupy Wall Street brethren did.

Eager to consult with his comrades, the attorney general borrowed Vice President Joe Biden’s jet and visited the St. Louis suburb Wednesday in what was billed as an attempt to restore calm to a community that has erupted in almost daily violence since Michael Brown, an 18-year old black man, was shot Aug. 9 by a white police officer. Brown has been beatified by the media. Canonization can’t be far off.

And what an extraordinarily unusual thing it is for a U.S. attorney general to personally visit the site of an alleged civil rights violation. It’s as if the investigation of the killing of a violent teenaged criminal were somehow equivalent to FBI’s “Mississippi Burning” probe of the 1964 “Freedom Summer” murder of James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner, three out-of-state voter registration canvassers whose bodies were found in Neshoba County, Miss.

But the hype –and the prospect of distracting from the Obama administration’s daily debacles, both domestic and abroad– makes Ferguson irresistible.

It’s as if there has been a coordinated public relations campaign conducted, perhaps stage-managed by someone like David Fenton, a progressive Joseph Goebbels for the modern age. He may very well be behind some or all of this. Fenton, after all, frequently represents dangerous subversives such as the ladies of Code Pink. His public relations firm also counts some in-your-face Alinskyite groups as clients, including Americans for Financial Reform (founded by the neo-communist community organizer trainer Heather Booth), Center for Community Change, Health Care for America Now (or HCAN, an ACORN-led coalition that helped force Obamacare on the nation), and the gangsterish Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

Regardless of who helped invent and cultivate the image of Michael Brown as a martyr, Holder is hoping his efforts regarding the case in Ferguson will harness all the negative energy generated by the Brown saga and channel it into producing change that no sane American would ever want.

With 40 FBI agents reportedly on the ground doing Holder’s bidding, and who knows how many other DoJ employees lurking around and stirring the pot, the natural anti-police prejudices of left-wingers across the nation are quickly hardening into dogma. As each day passes, the white police officer, Darren Wilson, is increasingly vilified by howling demagogues. You’re a terrible person if you don’t believe Wilson is a murderer, the Left says. The unhinged left-wing governor of Missouri, Democrat Jay Nixon, has joined the mob, demanding charges be laid against the cop right now even in the absence of incriminating evidence.

Despite this mass hysteria, the streets of Ferguson have been relatively calm since Holder’s visit, reports say. This outbreak of serenity that caps nearly a fortnight of tumult is likely attributable to the fact that Holder was there promising goodies to the assembled neo-communists and racial grievance mongers, his longtime political allies. Something, anything, must be done.

Holder doesn’t care that white racism or police racism directed at blacks isn’t much of a problem in the United States today.

In fact Americans, including blacks, tend to believe that blacks are more racist than whites and Hispanics, according to polling. Blacks’ racial antagonism, which President Obama has deliberately exacerbated, is the elephant in the room.

This makes it easy for the Left to perpetuate the ugly urban myth that white cops routinely use blacks for target practice. This also shuts down discussion of the toxic racism and the inner-city pathologies that tragically infect the African-American community. The politically correct say we’re not allowed to talk about these things — unless we toe the PC line.

Blinded by his zeal, on Wednesday, Holder presided over an orgy of genteel, media-friendly cop-hating at meetings with Ferguson residents that were organized by the professional agitators of the DoJ’s Community Relations Service (CRS) office.

CRS has become the community organizing arm of the DoJ under Holder. Two years ago CRS staffers visited Sanford, Fla., in an effort to rub raw the sores of discontent after Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old black youth, was killed during a physical confrontation with community crime watch volunteer George Zimmerman. For a month and a half after Martin’s death, local police declined to press charges against Zimmerman, who was ultimately acquitted of murder, because they believed quite correctly that the criminal case against him was weak. CRS used taxpayer resources to help organize marches in which participants heightened racial tensions and loudly demanded that Zimmerman be prosecuted.

Underneath Holder’s words during his Ferguson whistle stop was an ideology-driven presumption that the white cop is racist and guilty of murdering Michael Brown.

One can almost imagine Holder raising his fist in a black power salute the next day in the nation’s capital when he mawkishly announced that the DoJ would “continue to stand with Ferguson” and that “few things have affected me as greatly as my trip to Ferguson.” Why he would have to stand with the people of Ferguson when he is only supposed to be conducting an impartial investigation of a potential crime is unclear.

On Wednesday Holder told Ferguson residents that the “eyes of the nation and the world” are on the township and that the issues raised by Brown’s death have been simmering “beneath the surface in more communities than just Ferguson.”

Holder spoke to students at a community college and said it was an “opportunity to sit down with some wonderful young people and to hear them talk about the mistrust they have at a young age.” Holder said change would not take place overnight, the Huffington Post reported, paraphrasing a meeting attendee.

Holder said to the students that he understands “the mistrust” between some residents and law enforcement. “I am the attorney general of the United States, but I am also a black man,” he said.

Holder recalled how in the past police had pulled him over on the New Jersey Turnpike, accused him of speeding and searched his vehicle. “I remember how humiliating that was and how angry I was and the impact it had on me,” he said.

“The same kid who got stopped on the New Jersey freeway is now the attorney general of the United States,” he said. “This country is capable of change. But change doesn’t happen by itself.”

After a meeting Angela Whitman told reporters that Holder told her “that he was here because he was concerned about everything that was going on and he wanted us to voice our opinions and what did we want to change, and that he was going back to the White House to report so we can get some funding, so we can get a game plan on how to help our community.”

Holder told students that together they were initiating “a good dialogue” but that it was “not enough.”

“We need concrete action to change things in this country,” he said.

“This dialogue is important. But it can’t simply be that we have a conversation that begins based on what happened on August 9 and ends sometime in December, and nothing happens. As I was just telling these young people, change is possible. The same kid who got stopped on the New Jersey freeway is now the attorney general of the United States. This country is capable of change. But change doesn’t happen by itself.”

Indeed it doesn’t. It needs people who hate America to grease the wheels.

The black community's distorted view of Ferguson — and how to fix it.

On Monday, Rasmussen released a poll of Americans regarding the guilt or innocence of Officer Darren Wilson, the police officer who shot unarmed 18-year-old black man Michael Brown six times in Ferguson, Missouri. Those polls show that 57 percent of black adults think that Wilson should be found guilty of murder; 56 percent of whites, by contrast, are undecided on the matter.

The latter position is the correct one. Witnesses, including one Dorian Johnson, claim that Brown was pulled over by Wilson, attacked by him and pulled into the car, ran, stopped when told to freeze by Wilson, held up his hands, and was then shot. Other witnesses — more than a dozen of them, according to local media — say that Brown attacked Wilson, went for Wilson’s gun, fled before being told to stop, then charged Wilson before being shot.

Here’s what we do know: Despite original media reports labeling Brown a “gentle giant,” Brown and shooting witness Dorian Johnson did participate in a strong-arm robbery of a local convenience store. We know that despite original witness reports suggesting that Brown was shot in the back, he was not. We know that contemporaneous witness accounts caught on tape suggest that Brown charged at Wilson. And we know that a young black man is dead with six bullets in him at the hands of a white cop.

And to huge segments of the black community, that last fact is the only one that matters. The full facts do not matter to extremists in the black community and to their white leftist enablers, particularly in the media. A full 41 percent of black Americans believe that riots and looting represent “legitimate outrage.” Not protesting — riots and looting. Just 35 percent of blacks think that looters and rioters are criminals taking advantage of the situation.

There is a pattern here: a widespread belief in the black community that the justice system is rigged against them. That belief is not without basis — there is no question that America has a history of racism within the criminal justice community. By the same token, there is also no question that American law enforcement is the least racist it has ever been, by a long shot, and that racism within the law enforcement community is broadly considered unacceptable and vile.

But the belief in a racist justice system seems to have maintained its stranglehold inside the black community. That belief, taken to its extreme, means support for black criminality. It is no coincidence that during the O.J. Simpson trial, 60 percent of black Americans did not believe O.J. was guilty. It is also no coincidence that many white Americans perceive black support for murderers like O.J. Simpson and riots in Ferguson as support for lawlessness, and therefore pooh-pooh charges of police racism. When crying racism becomes crying wolf, it is hard to take such charges seriously.

The solution, however, lays neither in knee-jerk accusations of racism from the black community nor in immediate dismissals of individual accusations by the white community. It lies in continued targeting and prosecution of individual racists in the police community, of course — and far more importantly, it lies in less criminality within the black community. The high levels of crime in the black community contribute to heavier policing, which in turn reinforces perceptions of racial targeting; those perceptions then create resentment against police than ends too often in violent encounters and failure to report crime. And so the cycle starts anew.

It’s time to break the cycle. The only way to do that is to focus on the fact that police have no excuse to shoot anyone unless those people are committing criminal acts. On that we can all agree. Yes, we must arduously insist that police hold to that standard, and we must prosecute those who do not to the fullest extent of the law. But by the same token, we must insist that criminal acts stop — and to do that, we must move beyond simple anti-police sentiment.

...Obama, Holder & Co. side with the forces of destruction.

As the media-sanctioned rioting, bloodshed and looting continue in Ferguson, Missouri, evidence is emerging that police shooting victim Michael Brown wasn’t the upstanding citizen that many on the Left have claimed him to be.

All of this is happening as mobs have been attacking cops with Molotov cocktails and destroying community infrastructure. Some blacks in the region are reportedly randomly assaulting non-blacks as collective payback for what happened to Brown. Looting and property destruction are rampant. Scores of people have been arrested. Aircraft were ordered to fly at least 3,000 feet over Ferguson airspace after police said their helicopters were fired on from the ground.

A curfew was imposed, and the state’s feckless Democratic governor, Jay Nixon, stripped local police of some of their responsibilities, replacing them with state highway patrolmen. This, predictably, led to more looting of stores and all the things that usually happen when an angry, violent mob is rewarded for its bad behavior.

Through it all, the Left is out in force in Ferguson, trying to make a bad situation worse. The criminal elements of the city have been emboldened by martyrized accounts of Brown, and have carried out a campaign of destruction against the civil order under the banner of “no justice, no peace.”

As happened in the Trayvon Martin case two years ago, the hulking, nearly 300-lbs. Brown has been portrayed as an innocent doe-eyed angel unfairly cut down by evil police as a promising future awaited him. In Brown’s case, he was said to be just days away from heading off to college.

But as one blogger observed, in this age of ubiquitous social media, the 18-year-old African-American man left behind,

“a cache of rap songs … that contain pretty much what you’d expect out of modern rap – lots of boasting about murdering, taking drugs, drinking, and sex with hos.”

In one of them labeled “Free$tyle Big’Mike,” one performer raps, “My favorite part’s when they bodies hit the ground. I soak ‘em up like I’m wringin’ out a sponge.”

The fact that Brown liked performing thug music obviously doesn’t by itself make him a thug, but it does provide insight into his state of mind. The same can be said for the photographs that have surfaced of Brown posing like a tough guy, making gestures with his hands that some say are gang signs.

But what Brown did before he was killed by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, whose home and address were publicized by a reporter despite ceaseless death threats against the officer, offers compelling insight into what made Brown tick.

Evidence is now available that shows that Brown tried to wrest a gun away from a policeman and that he was ordered to freeze before he charged Darren Wilson and was shot. Some have suggested Brown was high on drugs at the time and that made him especially aggressive but a toxicology report on his body won’t be available for weeks.

Before the shooting incident last weekend, Brown used violence and the threat of more violence to steal. With an accomplice, he knocked over a convenience store, bullying victims with his prodigious size and weight. (Incidentally, the owner of the store told the Washington Post he fears that his customers will murder him and that he begged reporters not to suggest that he called the police on Brown.)

An official incident report about the robbery was released Friday by Ferguson police, over the vehement but ultimately groundless objections of left-wing politicians, including the Missouri governor and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. History shows that leftist office holders aren’t too concerned about getting to the bottom of a matter when their supporters are in the streets calling for blood. If the documentation in question helped make the case that the local police were cold-blooded, murdering racists, those same politicians would be loudly demanding its release.

The report in question identifies Brown and his 22-year-old friend Darren Johnson as suspects in the Aug. 9 robbery that took place minutes before Brown’s death.

According to the report, police responded to a call about “stealing in progress” at a convenience store. The stolen item was a $48.99 box of Swisher Sweets cigars. Marijuana users are known to hollow out such cigars and use them to smoke drugs.

A man identified as Brown was captured in store surveillance stills having a physical confrontation with a much smaller store employee who tried to lock the doors of the establishment to prevent the men from departing with the stolen item.

The 6’ 4”, 292-pound Brown took the employee by his shirt and pushed him back into some merchandise. As Brown moved toward the door, he then turned around and moved toward the worker “appearing to intimidate him.” After that Brown disappears from the camera footage.

Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson made the video of the robbery available Friday, explaining that state law forced him to act. Reporters had demanded the footage under the Freedom of Information Act, Jackson said.

The Obama administration sought to suppress the release of the inconvenient footage by pressuring the department not to release it to the public. Pandering for votes, Gov. Jay Nixon said Sunday he “deeply” disagreed with the decision by Ferguson police to release the robbery video.

The recording was made public “Number one to attempt in essence to disparage the character [of Brown] in the middle of a process like this is not right,” Nixon said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

So, first local police were condemned for not being sufficiently transparent; then after they released a key piece of evidence they were condemned for being too transparent.

Gov. Nixon then claimed that releasing the video was too painful for his constituents. “And secondarily it did put the community and, quite frankly, the region and the nation on alert again,” he said.

Of the week-old case, Nixon said, “These are old wounds, these are deep wounds in these communities and that action was not helpful.” Of course, by the governor’s reasoning the local police have no right to make the case that they are not murderers while they are being indicted by the frenzied Ferguson community, media and political Left.

Gov. Nixon again pushed emotional buttons, playing to the mob. “When you see your son gunned down in the street and then you see a police chief begin an attempt to attack his character, that’s just not the way to operate and we’ve made that clear to everyone,” he said.

This means Nixon believes that Jesse Jackson Sr. and Al Sharpton, who have been making campaign stops in Ferguson, have every right to be heard while the local police at the heart of the case should just remain silent and take whatever abuse is hurled at them.

Sharpton, the perpetrator of the infamous Tawana Brawley hoax and a close ally of President Obama, also weighed in on the release of the video.

“Michael Brown is gone,” he said in St. Louis yesterday. “You can run whatever video you want. He is not on trial. America is on trial!”

Sharpton continued:

“I have never in all my years seen something as offensive and insulting as a police chief releasing a tape of a young man trying to smear him before we even have his funeral.”

However, the more we learn about the nature of the crime and of Brown’s character, the clearer it is to see who should really be on trial: The likes of Al Sharpton and the race-hate industry, whose lies are fueling a vicious war against civil society in Ferguson.

Meanwhile, an autopsy performed by famed pathologist Dr. Michael M. Baden, former chief medical examiner for New York City, determined that Brown was not shot in the back as some have claimed. In particular, the autopsy contradicts the “eye witness” account of one left-wing media darling, Tiffany Mitchell, who claimed on MSNBC that Officer Wilson was pursuing Brown as he ran away and that Brown was shot in the back as he fled.

The autopsy report concluded that Brown was shot six times. One bullet penetrated his right eye, proceeding through his face, leaving through his jaw and then entering his collarbone. The final two shots in his head were probably the last ones fired.

Brown, who otherwise appeared to be healthy, would have died as a result of the shooting even if he had been transported immediately to a hospital, Baden said.

“People have been asking: How many times was he shot? This information could have been released on Day 1,” Baden told the New York Times after completing the private four-hour autopsy yesterday. “They don’t do that, even as feelings built up among the citizenry that there was a cover-up. We are hoping to alleviate that.”

Baden stressed that he was not assigning blame for the death or justifying what was done the day of Brown’s death.

But Benjamin L. Crump, an attorney for Brown’s family, tried to use the new forensic evidence to bolster the case that the young man was a victim of police brutality.

“The sheer number of bullets and the way they were scattered all over his body showed this police officer had a brazen disregard for the very people he was supposed to protect in that community,” Crump said. “We want to make sure people understand what this case is about: This case is about a police officer executing a young unarmed man in broad daylight.”

Of course the fact that a suspect was shot repeatedly and all over his body doesn’t necessarily demonstrate “brazen disregard” or that the individual was summarily executed by a police officer. It more likely indicates that the shooter, rightly or wrongly, believed that the suspect posed a danger to his life. And the fact that a suspect was “unarmed” doesn’t necessarily have much probative value in a case in which the individual allegedly tried to gain control of a police officer’s firearm.

Crump covered travel expenses for Baden and an assistant to Missouri, retaining the two for the procedure. Baden waived his customary $10,000 fee, the newspaper reports.

This autopsy and an official county autopsy apparently aren’t enough. Now Eric Holder’s spokesman says the “extraordinary circumstances” — whatever those may be — require that a federal autopsy be conducted. Forty FBI agents have also reportedly gone door-to-door in Ferguson in an attempt to gather evidence in an ongoing civil rights investigation related to the shooting.

And they’ll keep digging until they find evidence that vindicates the mob and the left-wing media and the community organizers from Chicago who have descended on Ferguson in order to make an example of the innocent people who live there.

In covering the killings in Las Vegas by Jerad and Amanda Miller this week, mainstream media commentators once again displayed their hypocrisy and double standard regarding Islamic terrorism and terror attacks that are supposedly “right-wing.”

CNN’s national security analyst Peter Bergen wrote Tuesday the Millers “appear to have been motivated by extreme far-right views. The couple left a flag at the scene of the crime with the words ‘Don’t Tread on Me,’ a Revolutionary War symbol used by some anti-government extremists.”

Bergen went on to emphasize that “countering violent extremism cannot simply be a demand placed on Muslim communities to prevent jihadist violence. In the decade since 9/11 right-wing extremists have demonstrated their ability to be just as deadly as their homegrown jihadist counterparts.”

Yet while Bergen is ready to equate “right-wing terrorists” with jihadists, he is much less ready to examine the motivating ideology of the latter. While he readily ascribed the Millers’ murders to “extreme far-right views,” when writing in 2006 about the root causes of the 9/11 jihad attack, Bergen stated:

In the many discussions of the “root causes” of Islamist terrorism, Islam itself is rarely mentioned. But if you were to ask Bin Laden, he would say that his war is about the defence of Islam. We need not believe him but we should nevertheless listen to what our enemies are saying. Bin Laden bases justification of his war on a corpus of Muslim beliefs and he finds ammunition in the Koran to give his war Islamic legitimacy. He often invokes the “sword” verses of the Koran, which urge unprovoked attacks on infidels. Of course, that is a selective reading of the Koran and does not mean Islam is an inherently violent faith, but to believers the book is the word of God.

He has demonstrated no similar anxiousness to exonerate “right-wing” beliefs from responsibility for the violence supposedly committed because of them. And at the Daily Beast, “Muslim comedian” Dean Obeidallah went even farther in a piece entitled “Home-Grown, Right-Wing Terrorism: The Hate the GOP Refuses to See.” Obeidallah was certain that conservative views led to violence, and that that was why Republicans had ridiculed the idea of “right-wing terrorism” when the Obama Administration’s Department of Homeland Security issued a warning about it in 2009. “The actual reason Republicans won’t investigate right-wing extremists,” Obeidallah claimed, “is that it would not only anger their base, it would actually indict some parts of it. Let’s be honest: In a time when establishment Republicans are concerned about getting challenged in primaries by more conservative Tea Party types, calling for hearings to investigate right-wing organizations could be political suicide.”

This is the same Dean Obeidallah who recently wrote this about the jihadists of Boko Haram, the Congregation of the People of the Sunnah for Dawah and Jihad: “The Nigerian terrorist group that kidnapped hundreds of schoolgirls has nothing to do with Islam, and it’s grotesquely irresponsible of the media to suggest it does.”

So an avowedly Islamic group that has repeatedly proclaimed that it is fighting in order to establish an Islamic state is not Islamic, and it’s “grotesquely irresponsible” to suggest otherwise. The leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, must have been “grotesquely irresponsible” when he declared: “The reason why I will kill you is you are infidels…The Koran must be supreme, we must establish Islam in this country.”

Obeidallah, who has produced and starred in a “comedy” film about “Islamophobia,” claims that the jihadists are twisting and hijacking his peaceful religion, and that only non-Muslim “Islamophobes” would dare think that anything they do has any justification in Islamic texts and teachings. But the possibility that murderers such as Jerad and Amanda Miller are twisting and hijacking peaceful conservative principles that do not in any essential or legitimate way incite to violence does not cross his mind.

Bergen, Obeidallah and others like them also believe that those who sound the alarm about Islamic terrorism are motivated by “hatred” and “bigotry.” Are they, then, also motivated by hatred and bigotry when they sound the alarm about “right-wing terrorism”? Obeidallah claims that when Republicans passed anti-Sharia laws designed to protect Americans from a political system that subjugates women and non-Muslims and destroys the freedom of speech and freedom of conscience, they “intended to demonize Muslims.” So if legislation designed to protect Americans from “right-wing terrorism” were passed, could its framers and advocates be characterized as “intending to demonize conservatives”?

Why, yes, of course. That is the goal of this hysteria about “right-wing extremism” and “right-wing terrorism”: to demonize and marginalize legitimate opposition to the Obama agenda, as well as to minimize the real threat of jihad terror. Likewise, the goal of the hysteria about “Islamophobia” is to demonize and marginalize legitimate opposition to jihad terror, so that terror can advance unopposed and unimpeded. To trumpet both these hysterias, however, entangles Leftists like Bergen and Islamic supremacists like Obeidallah in a contradiction: they say that the stated beliefs and goals of Islamic terrorists are of no importance whatsoever, and it is “hateful” to point them out. Yet at the same time, they maintain that the stated beliefs and goals of “right-wing terrorists,” or even beliefs and goals that are ascribed to them by analysts and have no connection to what they actually believed, matter a great deal, and it is the nation’s duty to address them and institute remedies.

The hypocrisy is as obvious and stunning as the mainstream media’s cheerful and unapologetic eagerness to traffic in it.

How the "hate crime" label diminishes the evils of anti-Semitism and Nazism.

Former KKK leader Frazier Glenn Cross’s Sunday shooting spree that left three dead outside a Jewish retirement home and a Jewish community center in the Kansas City, Mo., suburbs was a heinous atrocity, and the reflexive “hate crime” label being applied to it diminishes the true scope of the evil at its core.

Calling Miller’s acts hate crimes trivializes anti-Semitism, the evil that was Nazism and the monstrosity that was the Holocaust. The “hate crime” designation is over-relied on nowadays and this overuse has diluted its meaning. Spray-painting graffiti on a church or defacing a statue can be considered hate crimes.

The bar has been set so low that refusing to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple is a hate crime in the eyes of many left-wingers. Miller’s acts hardly belong in the same category.

Although all three apparently randomly selected victims were Christians, not Jews, the feds appear to be leaning in the direction of a hate crime prosecution. The attack “strikes at the core fundamental freedoms … of how our country was founded and what we live by every single day,” said FBI agent Michael Kaste. “We’ve now determined that the motivation behind this was a hate crime. The acts that this person committed were the result of beliefs … that he had.”

Interviewed in 2010, the now 73-year-old Miller was asked whether he hated Jews or African-Americans more. He replied, “Jews. A thousand times more. Compared to our Jewish problem, all other problems are mere distractions.”

Miller complained that Jews were running the U.S. government, mass media, and the Federal Reserve Bank. “And with those powers, they’re committing genocide against the white race,” he said. Miller also said he had “a great deal of respect for Muslim people” and referred to Adolf Hitler as “the greatest man who ever walked the earth.”

People like Miller “praise Hitler and they praise [Nation of Islam leader Louis] Farrakhan and of course Farrakhan was one of this guy’s heroes along with Hitler and David Duke,” said Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz, reacting to the events of Sunday.

Dershowitz seemed to suggest that the very idea of a hate crime is constitutionally dubious. It’s an Orwellian concept wherein the ideological component of an ordinary crime is singled out for special punishment over and above the underlying crime itself.

In other words, even in America, with its extraordinary protection for free speech and freedom of conscience you can be prosecuted for your ideas and beliefs. No matter how odious or unpopular those ideas and beliefs may be, it is unjust for courts to pass judgment on them.

“When we were kids we learned sticks and stones will break your bones but names will never harm you,” Dershowitz told MSNBC’s Ronan Farrow. “That’s a lie. Names hurt. They are horrible, and we shouldn’t be tolerating them in society. But the law under our Constitution can’t move against people simply for expressing views.”

For his part, President Obama condemned the attacks, saying the right things as he pretended to be religious for the benefit of the assembled media.

“We have to keep coming together across faiths to combat the ignorance and intolerance, including anti-Semitism that can lead to hatred and to violence, because we’re all children of God.”

It was “all the more painful” because the attacks came as Jews were preparing to celebrate Passover and Christians were observing Palm Sunday. “Nobody should have to worry about their security when gathering with their fellow believers. No one should ever have to fear for their safety when they go to pray.”

Obama’s words may have comforted some people, but they ring hollow.

Some of the president’s best friends are terrorists and Jew-hating Islamists. It was just a few days ago that Obama attended a New York rally hosted by longtime anti-Semite Al Sharpton and his thug protest group, National Action Network, whose inflammatory motto is, “No justice, no peace.”

And it was President Obama who tried to steer aid to an al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria last year and who threw his support behind former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, leader of the genocidally anti-Semitic Muslim Brotherhood, who called Jews the “descendants of apes and pigs.”

Miller’s views aren’t markedly different from those held by Morsi, former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Islamic scholars, Louis Farrakhan, or President Obama’s longtime pastor, Jeremiah Wright. Their hatred is derived from a common, age-old bloodlust that, if not challenged, metastasizes in horrific ways. Unfortunately, the disease appears to be once again on the rise.

The deadly combination of money, power and Islam.

The Westgate attack in Kenya with its accompanying butchery of every man, woman and child in a shopping mall who couldn’t name Mohammed’s mother is being met with baffled mutterings about “senseless violence.”

But there’s nothing senseless about the violence that took place.

Terrorists kill because it’s what they do. Plumbers unclog toilets. Computer companies sell you software. Terrorist organizations kill people.

Al-Shabaab’s real audience wasn’t the Americans watching CNN and trying to make sense of the violence. It was the millionaires and billionaires in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar who can turn any terrorist group from wannabes into RPG toting superstars racing through the desert on last year’s model Toyota pickup trucks with crates full of night vision equipment.

You may think of the news as a collection of tragedies. To the dozens of Al-Qaeda franchises and assorted Islamist terrorist groups; it’s American Idol. The CNN coverage of their attack is their audition on a worldwide reality show that shows off their skills and makes them famous.

Not every terrorist group is lucky enough to have its own Bin Laden; its Saudi sugar daddy with the cash and the cachet to get them the money they need in exchange for being the one to appear on camera and proclaim “Death to America”. And the Jihadists in Afghanistan fighting over Osama at times nearly killed each other over access to their effete money man.

Terrorists kill people “senselessly” because a spectacular terrorist attack gets them noticed. It sets them apart from every other Islamist terrorist group that throws together a name and waves a flag with a bunch of swords on it while vowing to drive out all the infidels. The 12 PM CNN audience may not applaud, but the Al Jazeera audience does. And it’s the one that matters.

Muslim terrorist organizations fight to impose Islamic law. But what does that really mean, aside from the little girls wearing Burkas and the demolished churches?

Think of the letters of marque that allowed privateers to prey on enemy shipping during wartime. The difference between a privateer and a pirate was the letters of marque. The difference between a warlord, a bandit, a rapist and a Muslim terrorist is the Koran and the Fatwa based on it that acts as his letter of marque.

Muslim terrorism is in no small part legalized banditry with each terrorist group leader hoping to set up shop as the Emir of his own little territory while fighting for the Caliphate.

Get some thugs together, form a terrorist group waving a black flag and stake a claim on some territory. Kill enough people and you’ll get weapons and training from terrorist networks and money from Gulf billionaires eager to impress their friends by sponsoring their very own terrorist attack. “Abdul, You know the Westgate attack? That was my money.”

Kill even more people and foreign governments will come to you hat in hand, offering you foreign aid and pressuring your government to give you autonomy. So why not be a terrorist?

Israel has been hailed as the Start-Up Nation for its dot com companies, but more Middle Eastern youth are joining a different kind of start-up.

Put a website. Set up a Twitter account. Upload YouTube videos of your men shooting at things. Recruit idiot British converts to Islam who traded in Billy and John for Rasheed and Mahmoud. Use your brother-in-law’s mosque contacts to recruit Muslims born in America, Canada or Australia who have no clue what life is really like back in Somalia or Pakistan, but are enthusiastic about overcoming their cultural inferiority complex by being part of the Jihad.

Atrocities get you noticed. If Mohammed in the Islamic Army for a Free Syria ate a lung, get one of your men in the Jihad Against Chess and Kites for Justice and Freedom brigade to eat a heart. If they kill a three-year-old, you kill a two-year-old. If they fire a chemical weapon, get your hands on a nuke.

It’s all about who gets the most attention with the worst atrocities and nothing is over the top.

The most successful Al-Qaeda franchise is its Iraqi branch which was considered psychotic by the original Al-Qaeda leadership. Its tactics were described as completely deranged, senseless and bound to accomplish nothing. Now its splinter groups are in line to take over Syria. It may have taken a decade of horrifying murders of innocent people, but they are finally within sight of someone else’s promised land.

What of the men, the plodding goons getting pumped on Jihadi music videos full of black flags, reciting Koran verses, taking hits of cocaine and dreaming of virgins in paradise before rushing into a sniper’s line of fire; what’s in it for them?

Some join terrorist groups for the same reason that young men in Chicago or Oakland join gangs. It’s a brotherhood of crime. And the Muslim version comes with a pardon from Allah and the promise of a paradise full of virgins to rape when that Syrian sniper spills all the Koranic quotes in that quivering mass of Hashish-addled grey matter onto a pockmarked street at 200 yards.

Islam provides the structure for these murderous recreations of Mohammed’s conquests with Japanese pickup trucks instead of mules and camels, and machine guns instead of spears and swords.

It tells the Muslim idealist that killing for Allah is the only thing that will bring about a just world. It tells the Muslim criminal that his crimes can be virtues. It tells the ambitious Muslim that he can have his own Emirate. It tells the embittered Muslim that nothing will be right until he kills the non-Muslims who are causing all the trouble.

It tells each man what he needs to hear to kill.

Guns don’t kill people. Ideas do. Islam, like Nazism or Communism, is a set of weaponized ideas.

Islam is the world within the heads of Muslim terrorists and it’s sensible if you’re a fat old Saudi billionaire impressing your friends with piles of African corpses, the third son of some backwater farmer with a worthless clan trying to move up from drug smuggling or a Chechen kid in Boston trying to find the glory of your own people while comparing the promises of the Koran to the dingy reality of your family grubbing off welfare while talking up the good old days back home.

Islam doesn’t just promote killing, it incentivizes it. It’s not just a motive; it’s also a rewards program. Its history demands war. Its nature compels killing. Even the most well-meaning Muslim cannot escape the vortex of Jihad at its center. Even if he does not support it in any way; it is always there tugging at him in a hundred different ways.

Islam is the chronicle and blueprint of an unfinished conquest. Its existence inevitably tempts its followers to try and complete Mohammed’s unfinished business.

Top News:

• University of Kansas journalism professor David Guth has been suspended from his teaching duties after he responded to the horrific Navy Yard shooting by stating his wish on twitter that the next crazed gunman would kill the children of members of the National Rifle Association. Guth’s tweet read: “#NavyYardShooting The blood is on the hands of the #NRA. Next time, let it be YOUR sons and daughters. Shame on you. May God damn you.” In a statement released by KU, Ann Brill, dean of the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications in which Guff taught, stated, “While the First Amendment allows anyone to express an opinion, that privilege is not absolute and must be balanced with the rights of others. That’s vital to civil discourse. Professor Guth’s views do not represent our school and we do not advocate violence directed against any group or individuals.”

• A textbook used to teach Advanced Placement History at Guyer High School in Denton, incorrectly summarizes the Second Amendment, making it appear that it pertains only to soldiers in a “state militia” and not to ordinary citizens. The summary provided in the text reads, “The people have a right to keep and bear arms in a state militia.” By contrast, the actual Second Amendment to the United States Constitution holds that “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The textbook is also used at an indeterminate number of other high schools.

• A student who attempted to pass out copies of the United States Constitution on Constitution Day, September 17, at Modesto Junior College in California was told that his actions violated the rules of the College. The student, 25-year-old Robert Van Tuinen, was confronted by an intimidating campus security guard who claimed that he could only do so in a tiny free speech zone, and that he was required to fill out forms to schedule his distribution of materials in advance. Van Tuinen caught the exchange on video and is being supported by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education which called the incident “depressing and nauseating.” The College claims to be “looking into the incident.”

• The regents of Colorado University, in a unanimous vote, passed a resolution adding “political affiliation” to the school’s non-discrimination policy, thereby ensuring that conservative students are protected from professors who might penalize them for their political views in class. The University will also conduct a study to determine whether professors are respectful of students who differ with their (typically leftist) views in the classroom. These decisions put into place protections that Students for Academic Freedom, a program of the David Horowitz Freedom Center, first attempted to enact in 2003.

Sex Ed at UCLA [NationalReview.com]

When two freshman sisters at UCLA were told their mandatory orientation on sexual harassment would include a section on sex education, they respectfully requested exemption from that part of the program. As Catholics, Angelica and Bella Ayala did not want to participate in the sex-ed presentation — which discussed, among other topics, how to put on a condom and how to ask someone to have sex with you — because contraception and premarital sex violate their moral code. But the two girls were swiftly reprimanded for their small protest and told they were required to attend another session, even if it violated their conscience.

It’s easy for conservatives to write off college campuses as impenetrable liberal strongholds and to regard women students in particular as a lost cause.
The common thread between the latest mass killings and homeland security incidents.

Forget gun control. America needs government control. Have you noticed the common thread among several mass killings and homeland security incidents lately?

Time and again, it’s the control freaks in Washington who have fallen down on their jobs, allowing crazies, creeps and criminals to roam free and wreak havoc while ignoring rampant red flags. Let’s review:

Washington Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis: Despite gun-grabbing Democrats’ best efforts to blame a nonexistent “AR-15″ for this week’s horrific Navy Yard massacre, the truth is seeping out about shooter Aaron Alexis. The 34-year-old Navy veteran had been treated since August by the Veterans Administration for a host of mental problems that plagued him for up to a decade.

Officials say Alexis was paranoid, had a sleep disorder, suffered from schizophrenia and was “hearing voices.” He told Newport, R.I., police after an altercation just last month that he believed a “microwave machine” was sending vibrations through a wall into his body. Friends say he was a heavy drinker and violent video game addict. A ticking time bomb, he had racked up a string of misconduct incidents during his military stint ranging from absenteeism to insubordination to disorderly conduct. He was arrested in Seattle in 2004 and in Fort Worth, Texas, in 2010 for separate anger-fueled shootings that terrorized neighbors and innocent bystanders.

Yet somehow Alexis passed several military background checks, gained high-level security clearance and had access to multiple military installations. The civilian contractor who employed Alexis blasted the feds on Tuesday for failing to fully disclose his history. “Anything that suggests criminal problems or mental health issues, that would be a flag,” Thomas Hoshko of The Experts told The Washington Post. “We would not have hired him.” And 12 innocent people might still be alive today.

Fort Hood jihadist Nidal Hasan: The red flag-ignoring government seems to have become an affirmative action employer for rage-filled madmen. Fort Hood jihadist Nidal Hasan, sentenced to death last month, had warned his military superiors well in advance of the massacre that he was prone to violence. Citing convicted Army fragger Hasan Akbar and others, Hasan emphasized that he was not alone among Muslim soldiers who believed they “should not serve in any capacity that renders them at risk to hurting/killing believers unjustly.”

The feds buried concerns about Hasan and instead kept him employed to prevent accusations of discrimination.

They did not want to be “crucified,” according to one Army investigator. Twelve innocent men and women, plus one unborn baby, died as a consequence of the government’s malign neglect and feckless indulgence of political correctness.

TSA nutball Nna Alpha Onuoha: Then there’s the TSA. Last week, a former TSA agent was arrested on the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks for calling in threats to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and warning that there would be a “baptism of fire” on 9/11/13. Investigators found a raft of handwritten nutball notes by disgruntled TSA screener 29-year-old Nna Alpha Onuoha tacked up in his closet. Onuoha also operated a bizarro website titled Satanhasfallen.org, which featured “end of the world” essays. He was the same TSA agent who made headlines earlier this summer after harassing a 15-year-old girl at LAX over her modest apparel.

How did this young, single male from Nigeria of limited means get into the country in the first place, let alone end up at the TSA? I’ve heard from countless veterans and former police officers over the years who were rejected from TSA positions for being “overqualified.” Yet somehow Onuoha moved to the front of the TSA employment line.

How many more? The agency’s lax background checks and politically correct hiring practices are notorious. In July, the Government Accountability Office reported a 26-percent rise in employee misconduct violations over the past three years, ranging from theft to chronic sleeping on the job to ignoring basic screening protocols. Discipline is inconsistent to nonexistent. Last year, GOP Rep. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee documented 50 galling examples of TSA employees arrested for crimes ranging from child pornography, drugs, rape and prostitution to bribery, conspiracy, assault and murder.

Two years ago, another GAO report revealed that TSA’s counterterrorism specialists had failed to detect 16 separate jihad operatives who moved through target airports “on at least 23 different occasions.” Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security has released nearly 3,000 illegal alien sex offenders from detention. And rank-and-file ICE agents blew the whistle this summer on the Obama administration’s release of untold numbers of violent criminals who were designated as amnesty-eligible “DREAMers.”

The motto of our homeland security overlords is “not on our watch.” But like so much else attached to our post-9/11 national security bureaucracy, that motto has become a punchline. With the feds and military leaders looking the other way or closing their eyes altogether to menaces within their ranks, there is no watch. It’s a Code Red alert for government incompetence.

Gun-control advocates waste no time twisting the Navy Yard shooting.

After a gunman calmly murdered 12 people at the Washington Navy Yard yesterday, the Left began trying to exploit the Navy employees’ deaths to advance its never-ending campaign to disarm law-abiding citizens.

The FBI identified the shooter, who was killed in a gun battle with police, as Aaron Alexis, 34, of Fort Worth, Texas. A civilian military contractor who was reportedly a practicing Buddhist at one time, Alexis received a general discharge from the Navy Reserve in 2011 after a shooting incident in his home. A general discharge usually indicates a problem in a serviceman’s record. He was previously arrested in Seattle 2004 after shooting out the tires of a vehicle.

During the assault around Building 197 in the military installation near the Washington, D.C. Nationals ballpark, Alexis used a shotgun, handgun, and an AR-15, the same kind of rifle used by Adam Lanza in the Newtown, Conn., elementary school massacre in December.

As with elementary schools and other “gun-free” zones, perpetrators know they can carry out mass shootings at military bases because the personnel there have been disarmed.

As the Washington Times previously reported,

Among President Clinton’s first acts upon taking office in 1993 was to disarm U.S. soldiers on military bases. In March 1993, the Army imposed regulations forbidding military personnel from carrying their personal firearms and making it almost impossible for commanders to issue firearms to soldiers in the U.S. for personal protection. For the most part, only military police regularly carry firearms on base, and their presence is stretched thin by high demand for MPs in war zones.

Aaron Alexis, who was reportedly not even a good shot, still managed to pick off two dozen human targets, aided by President Clinton’s inexplicable weapons ban. Similarly, a few years ago Major Nidal Malik Hasan mowed down military personnel at Fort Hood, killing 13 people.

But common sense is lost on leftists who don’t seem to understand that taking away guns makes Americans less safe.

U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), author of the now-expired 1994 assault weapons ban, said the Navy Yard shootings that took place about a mile from the U.S. Capitol constituted proof that Congress is “shirking its responsibility” in the gun control debate.

“This is one more event to add to the litany of massacres that occur when a deranged person or grievance killer is able to obtain multiple weapons — including a military-style assault rifle — and kill many people in a short amount of time. When will enough be enough?” Feinstein asked.

Earlier this year the Senate killed a plan to expand background checks on firearms buyers, along with a fresh assault weapons ban sponsored by Feinstein.

Other left-wing ambulance chasers were quick off the mark.

Before the facts were known President Obama weighed in on the atrocities, hoping to use the deaths to push more unconstitutional gun control schemes. “We’re confronting — yet another — mass shooting,” he said. “And today it happened on a military installation in our nation’s capital.”

Obama, of course, is a devout ideologue who doesn’t believe Americans should be allowed to own guns. He’s a longtime supporter of gun confiscation but when he started running for president he began claiming to be a supporter of the Second Amendment in order not to scare away moderate voters. He has Freudian-slipped from time to time. In his first presidential campaign he mocked small-town Americans as “bitter” people who “cling to guns or religion,” paraphrasing Saul Alinsky’s ugly attacks on ordinary Americans.

Emily Miller argues in the Washington Times that Obama is scare-mongering. Although any loss of life is a tragedy, mass shootings “are not a cause for increased alarm.” Many more Americans are killed in non-mass shootings and in gun accidents.

A recent report by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service (CRS) stated that “there have been 78 public mass shootings in the last 30 years that claimed 547 lives.” This works out to 18 victims per year or a tiny fraction of all murders by firearms in America.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the U.S. does not even have a particularly high murder rate compared to other nations. In 2011, the U.S. had an intentional homicide rate of 4.7 per 100,000 population, placing it roughly in the middle on the list of nations of the world.

Honduras had the highest intentional homicide rate (91.6) and Monaco the lowest (0.0). The rates for a sample of other countries are as follows: Jamaica (40.9); Mexico (23.7);

Russia (10.2); Philippines (5.4); India (3.5); Finland (2.2); Canada (1.6); Australia (1.0); and Singapore (0.3).

But Obama is nothing if not a salesman. Instead of focusing on the 8,583 murders committed using firearms (in 2011), the president “focuses on the rare mass shootings because the uncontrollable and random nature of them are more frightening to the public, which is politically helpful for him to push his gun-control agenda,” writes Miller, author of the new book, Emily Gets Her Gun.

Within hours of the massacre, erstwhile conservative David Frum wrote a tasteless screed urging more gun control. After lamenting the successful recall by voters of two gun-grabbing state lawmakers in Colorado last week, Frum pontificated that, “America’s uniquely grisly record of gun death cannot be addressed without addressing guns.” He also ascribed sinister motives to gun owners, accusing them of working to maximize future body counts.

In Frum’s view there is no reason to wait to discuss “mass casualty shootings, such as that which just occurred in the Washington Navy Yard.”

The historic military facility, he writes,

now joins the long roll of place names indelibly associated with massacre and grief: Columbine, Virginia Tech, Newtown. I write on the day of the killing. Gun enthusiasts say it is inappropriate to talk about gun violence at the time it occurs. Better to wait … and wait … and wait … until time has passed, and the weeping next of kin have vanished from TV, and it’s safe to return to business as usual. The idea of the gun enthusiasts is that the way to show respect for the victims of gun violence is to do everything possible to multiply their number.

But why are there so many mass shootings at public institutions such as the schools Frum names? Because they’re so-called gun-free zones. They’re magnets for psychotic mass murderers who know they get the most bang for the buck by preying on the defenseless. The way to give students and teachers a fighting chance against aspiring homicidal maniacs is to give teachers, or at least school security guards, guns.

The shooting spree yesterday came the week after al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri called for Muslims to carry out small-scale attacks “here and there” inside the U.S. “We should bleed America economically by provoking it to continue in its massive expenditure on its security,” he said, “for the weak point of America is its economy, which has already begun to stagger due to the military and security expenditure.”

At press time, it was unclear what motivated Aaron Alexis to carry out the attack. Washington, D.C., mayor Vincent Gray said there was no evidence that what transpired yesterday was a terrorist attack but that investigators are not ruling out the possibility.

An absurd ruling -- and how it will affect the prosecution's case.

In a move that reeks of political motivations, Judge Col. Tara Osborn ruled against the admission of evidence that prosecutors say would show Maj. Nidal Hasan’s jihadist motivations for attacking the Fort Hood military base in 2009. Osborn had been asked to approve several witnesses, along with other key evidence, that would have shown Hasan believed he had a “jihad duty” to perpetrate the atrocity that killed 13 and wounded 32 of his fellow soldiers. Lawyers representing family members killed and wounded by Hasan were rightfully outraged by her refusal to allow the evidence.

The barred evidence included references to Hasan Akbar, a Muslim soldier who was sentenced to death after killing two and wounding 14 of his fellow soldiers in a grenade and rifle attack at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait, two days after the beginning of the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003. Prosecutors wanted to suggest that Hasan had carried out a “copycat attack.” Osborn disagreed. “The court believes Sgt. Akbar is not on trial in this case,” Osborn contended, adding that the introduction of such evidence would “only open the door to a mini-trial” of Akbar and result in a “confusion of issues, unfair prejudice, waste of time and undue delay.”

Osborn also ruled that presentations made by Hasan during his years in medical residency and in fellowship years were too far removed from the atrocity to be entered into evidence. “It is too remote in time and too open to multiple interpretations,” Osborn said of presentations Hasan made when he was at Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

It’s an absurd ruling. Hasan gave one presentation to his supervisors and about 25 other mental health staff members during his senior year as a psych resident in June 2007. If such a presentation, which took place only a year and a half before the Fort Hood killings, is too remote in time, maybe it’s because of the multiple delays in getting this trial underway, one of which included an argument over whether Hasan could keep his beard. (That argument is why Osborn is presiding over the case. The original judge, Col. Gregory Gross, was removed after a military appeals court ruled that his “duel of wills” with Hasan over the beard made him appear biased).

As for the idea that Hasan’s presentation is open to multiple interpretations, so what? A trial itself is the essence of multiple interpretations that are eventually winnowed down by a jury in their effort to determine innocence or guilt. (The jury in this death penalty case consists of 12 officers, all of whom are required to be of Hasan’s rank or higher).

Furthermore, Hasan’s presentation, “The Koranic World View As It Relates to Muslims in the U.S. Military,” was a giant red flag. It consisted of 50 slides and information about Islam, suicide bombers, and the potential threats to which the military could be subjected by Muslims conflicted about fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hasan contended that in order to avoid “adverse events,” the military should consider granting conscientious objector releases to Muslim soldiers rather then making them fight against their fellow Muslims. “It’s getting harder and harder for Muslims in the service to morally justify being in a military that seems constantly engaged against fellow Muslims,” he said during the presentation.

There were other equally disturbing parts as well. Under one slide, titled “Comments,” Hasan wrote, “If Muslim groups can convince Muslims that they are fighting for God against injustices of the ‘infidels’; ie: enemies of Islam, then Muslims can become a potent adversary ie: suicide bombing, etc.” [sic] The last bullet point on another page stated, “We love death more then [sic] you love life!” The “Conclusions” page was equally revealing. Hasan stated that “Fighting to establish an Islamic State to please God, even by force, is condoned by the Islam” and that “Muslim Soldiers should not serve in any capacity that renders them at risk to hurting/killing believers unjustly–will vary!” [sic]

What makes Osborn’s refusal to allow what would appear to be a substantial piece of evidence regarding Hasan’s motives even more bizarre is the reality that Hasan himself explained his motive and admitted his guilt in his opening statement. “The evidence will clearly show that I am the shooter,” said Hasan. He also voiced his allegiance to America’s enemies. “Evidence will show I was on the wrong side of America’s war and I later switched sides. We in the mujahideen are imperfect beings trying to establish a perfect religion … I apologize for any mistakes I have made in this endeavor.”

A “mujahideen” is defined as a Muslim guerrilla engaged in jihad.

That would be the same jihad in which another American-born Muslim named Anwar al-Awlaki was engaged before a U.S. predator drone strike took him out in Yemen in 2011. Al-Awlaki, who had lunch at the Pentagon shortly after 9/11 in an effort to engage in Muslim “outreach,” became a key member of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Yet Osborn ruled that emails between Hasan and al-Awlaki were also inadmissible, because they would have to be “redacted to prevent undue prejudice by association” and the resultant redactions would make them irrelevant.

In other words, despite the reality that Hasan has declared himself an enemy of the United States, it would be prejudicial to associate him with another enemy of the United States with whom he regularly communicated.

Osborn also ruled that prosecutors could not use Hasan’s 2006 inquiry into the possibility of filing conscientious objector status. Considering that this would have tied directly into his lecture on the same topic during his presentation at Walter Reed a year later, Osborn demonstrates an equally foolish, but unsurprising consistency.

Osborn did allow the prosecutors to introduce evidence of Hasan’s Internet searches on jihad and the Taliban, but according to CNN, it was limited to “days and hours before the attack.” FBI Special Agent Charles Cox III, a computer forensics examiner, testified that someone had used Hasan’s computer to pull up an article titled, “Pakistan Taliban Chief Urges Taliban to Fight Army,” only two hours before the mass murder took place.

It is no secret why Judge Col. Tara Osborn was determined to severely limit the prosecution’s attempt to establish motive. Lead prosecutor Col. Steve Henricks’ opening statements made it clear where their side was going. “He didn’t want to deploy and he came to believe he had a jihad duty to murder soldiers,” said Henricks, who further contended Hasan wanted to “kill as many soldiers as he could.”

Those ideas are completely antithetical to the Obama administration’s determination to remove all references to Islamist jihad from the Fort Hood slaughter. Nothing speaks to this effort more clearly than the reality that the mass murder of American soldiers by a Muslim several witnesses alleged was shouting “Allahu Akbar!” as he gunned them down was officially labeled “workplace violence.” Moreover that label, in conjunction with Osborn’s rulings, would sharply limit damages in the civil suit brought by the victims’ families, compared to what they might receive if the shootings were an act of terror, including Purple Hearts, combat medals and superior health benefits.

Neal Sher, a lawyer who represents many of the victims and their families, was offended by Osborn’s rulings. “This is first degree mass murder case and motive is absolutely relevant to prove premeditation,” he explained.

Sher further noted the bizarre nature of the proceedings, in that the government “is talking from both sides of its mouth,” with the military defense maintaining the administration’s see-no-jihadism position, while the military prosecution insists Islamic jihad explains everything Hasan has done.

Unfortunately for the administration, it would seem almost certain that Hasan, who will get the opportunity to present his case after the prosecution rested yesterday, isn’t about to corroborate their insufferably PC version of his rampage. In addition to his opening statement, two clues indicate precisely the opposite.

First, Hasan released three pages from his Sanity Board Report to the New York Times last week. In it he justified killing his fellow soldiers because they were “going against the Islamic Empire.” The report also noted that Hasan would have been honored to die because it meant “God had chosen him as a martyr.” And Hasan himself told the military board that “I’m paraplegic and could be in jail for the rest of my life. However, if I died by lethal injection I would still be a martyr.”

Second, and perhaps most telling, Hasan and prosecutors have officially agreed on the definition of jihad:

Under Islam, the central doctrine that calls on believers to combat the enemies of their religion. According to the Qur’an and the Hadith, jihad is a duty that may be fulfilled in four ways: by the heart, the tongue, the hand, or the sword. The first way involves an inner hatred for those evils that cannot be overcome by the other 3 [sic] ways. The ways of the tongue and hand call for verbal defense and right actions. The jihad of the sword involves waging war against enemies of Islam. Believers contend that those who die fighting in All-Mighty Allah’s cause are guaranteed a place in paradise as well as a special status.

Osborn’s rulings may be have thwarted the prosecution, but it won’t make any difference. Hasan has his platform, and it seems almost certain that politically correct facade erected by the Obama administration will be completely shattered. Its destruction couldn’t be more well deserved.

The infamous hoodie may go to the Smithsonian -- and seal its legacy as a religious relic.

Just when you think the left can’t possibly get more unhinged about the shooting of black Trayvon Martin, the next step in his beatification is getting underway: the hoodie he died in may be acquired for the Smithsonian Institution. This not only will imbue it with an historical civil rights significance, which it has not earned, but will practically accord it the status of a religious relic.

The Washington Post reported last week that Lonnie Bunch, director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC, now under construction and expected to open in 2015), wants to add the hoodie to a collection that includes a guard tower from Louisiana’s Angola State Penitentiary and the handcuffs used to restrain President Obama’s buddy, radical academic Henry Louis Gates Jr., in a 2009 incident which Obama himself blew up into a racial flashpoint. You may recall that, like with the Martin shooting, Obama chose to weigh in officially on this incident, which should have been far below the concerns of a president of the United States. He needlessly inflamed racial tensions when he stated incorrectly that the police acted “stupidly” in arresting Gates, who also milked the incident for all the racial mileage he could get.

Bunch told the Post that the hoodie “became the symbolic way to talk about the Trayvon Martin case. It’s rare that you get one artifact that really becomes the symbol… Because it’s such a symbol, it would allow you to talk about race in the age of Obama.”

Actually, it is precisely the nature of the hoodie’s irrational power that it derails honest discussion about race in “the age of Obama.” Draping itself in the shroud of Trayvon and clinging to a false narrative of racial grievance, the left feels no obligation to face facts about the case or to engage in any self-examination about the state of race in America today; instead they simply wave the hoodie as a symbol of the race war they imagine the White Power Structure is waging against blacks.

“I get goose bumps just thinking about it,” says Michael Skolnik, the political director for hip-hop mogul and demagogue Russell Simmons (if you’re wondering why a hip hop mogul needs a political director, it’s because in “the age of Obama,” the unprecedented White House access given to such wealthy pop culture blacks like Simmons and Jay-Z also gives them enormously swollen egos). Skolnick is also a board member of the Trayvon Martin Foundation. “It’s like this mythical garment,” he says about the hoodie. Mythical? The myth is that Trayvon was an innocent child victimized in a modern-day lynching at the hands of (according to the left) half-white vigilante gun nut George Zimmerman.

Like Bunch and Skolnick, shameless race-baiter Al Sharpton, who has tirelessly exploited the Zimmerman-Martin case, would like to elevate Martin to “this generation’s Emmett Till” – a disgusting comparison – and the hoodie is central to that goal. “The hoodie now represents an image of an urban street kid that either embraces or engages in street thug life,” said Sharpton. “I think it’s unfair.”

It’s not unfair, it’s understandable. The utopian fantasists of the left refuse to acknowledge this, but judging strangers based on their appearance is a reasonable and natural act of self-preservation. Considering that hoodies are the uniform of choice for gangsta-wannabes, Occupy Wall Street vandals, and others who need a reason to partially conceal their identity, that article of clothing cannot escape its association with thugs. If you don’t want to be viewed with suspicion, don’t dress or act suspiciously. Dress like a prospect, not a suspect, as the saying goes.

A hoodie, of course, is only as suspicious as the person wearing it. My three-year-old daughter wears one herself when it suits the weather, and no one gives it a second thought because no one has anything to fear from a three-year-old girl. However, when a young man, regardless of color, wears a hoodie in such a way that his identity is partially or completely obscured, it is natural and right that people view him with some measure of caution.

The hoodie has already served as an important symbol for the left, who Photoshopped Martin Luther King, Jr. into photos of Martin’s hoodie, making a false equivalence between the two. Protesters wear hoodies in solidarity with Martin, as do scowling celebrities like another rap mogul, Sean Combs, and Hollywood’s most blatant racist, Jamie Foxx.

“Are we in a post-racial age?” museum director Bunch pondered. “[The Zimmerman] trial says, ‘No.’” True, America is definitely not in a post-racial age, thanks to Obama, but the trial is not evidence of that. In fact, the trial was a perfect example of a post-racial legal system in action, in that the jurors came to their “not guilty” judgment based on the evidence, and did not succumb to tremendous media and public pressure to convict Zimmerman for racial reasons. Even an FBI investigation into Zimmerman’s possible racial motivation came up empty. The verdict was the correct one but not the one the left wanted to hear, so evidence be damned – they wanted Zimmerman to pay for historical racial grievances for which he is not responsible.

The NMAAHC’s mission statement claims that “this institution will stimulate a dialogue about race and help to foster a spirit of reconciliation and healing.” But Trayvon Martin’s hoodie will not foster that spirit; it will only divide us in the future as it has thus far. If it deserves a spot in the Smithsonian at all, it should not be as an emblem of white America’s ingrained racism toward blacks, but as a symbol of the left’s ingrained grievance-mongering and their refusal to embrace responsibility and reconciliation.

A number of radical groups — including Marxist, Socialist, and other groups whose goal is the overthrow of the American system — have seized on the Trayvon Martin verdict and are now organizing events and rallies trying to instigate anger over the verdict to serve their own agenda.

The Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) organized a rally in San Francisco that drew several hundreds within hours of the verdict. PSL is also holding a number of events related to police brutality, which they’ve augmented to focus on the Trayvon Martin verdict. In Chicago, they held a study group titled “Stand Up Against Police Brutality and Justice for Trayvon Martin” on July 23, 2013. A similar event will be held in San Francisco on July 26, 2013. A major rally against police brutality in Syracuse, New York is slated for August 21, 2013.

According to PSL and groups with a similar ideological bent, the police are merely tools of the capitalists, used to suppress the working class, which PSL declares has been given the shaft by America’s capitalistic system. Eugene Puryear is an organizer with PSL and he explained the group’s view in the most recent issue of Liberation News, the magazine published by PSL.

Militarized policing became the status quo, creating a massive apparatus that keeps itself going by always creating new “wars”. What started as a war on revolutionaries switched to the so-called “War on Drugs” and now the “War on Terror.” Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the suppression of the radical wing of the social movements of the era significantly weakened those who would have been the principal obstacles to the mass incarceration policies and police repression against Black America, trends that intensified in the 1980’s and continue to this day.

PSL and groups like it see the Trayvon Martin affair as another example of misplaced priorities and inherent racism in the criminal justice system.

The New Black Panther Party will use the Trayvon Martin verdict as the main theme of its annual “Million Youth March,” which will be held in Harlem, New York on September 7, 2013. On its website announcing the event, the New Black Panthers proudly proclaim that they’ve been in favor of vigilante justice in this case for months.

We responsibly identified our constitutional rights to offer a $10,000.00 reward for anyone that could keep up with this Zimmerman whom we fear would try to leave the country. We also, under the United States Constitution, gave the city of Sanford, Florida and the United States Attorney General, our brother, Eric Holder that we were following protocol of issuing a citizen’s arrest and that we could prove probable cause. We would make it our mission to bring in the murderer George Michael Zimmerman, who is still with his father and mother, Robert and Gladys Zimmerman.

The National Alliance Against Racism and Political Repression (NAARPR) issued a statement as well, condemning the verdict as another example of the racism inherent in the justice system. The NAARPR favors a total abolition of America’s prison system. The statement from the NAARPR also indicated that the verdict is another example of the inherent racism in our justice system.

Two things have occurred in the past month which indicate that African Americans have no rights that white law makers, police and racist vigilantes are bound to respect. The first was the U.S. Supreme Court gutting of the Voting Rights Act, characterizing it as “perpetual racial entitlements” and thereby perpetually entitling white representatives of ruling elites to disenfranchise African Americans in an effort to bring back Jim Crow. The second was the acquittal Saturday of George Zimmerman, murderer of Trayvon Martin.

The Socialist Worker, the newspaper of the International Socialist Organization, also dedicated an entire section in its last newspaper to the Martin verdict.

At nearly every rally related to the Trayvon Martin case, one can find radical groups like the above passing out literature and hoping to ride the coattails of the controversy to advance their own agenda. Their agenda includes the complete overhaul of the USA, into something that resembles a Marxist or anarchist state. Will they gain converts to the cause?
