Aggressors, victims…what’s the difference?

This week’s terror attack in a Jerusalem synagogue evoked a 300-word unsigned editorial from the New York Times.

Seemingly, this was a straightforward case: two terrorists with a gun, axes, and knives entered the synagogue and proceeded to butcher peaceful, unarmed worshippers. But for the Times, nothing involving Israel is straightforward.

Yes, the Times called the attack a “bloody rampage” and said Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas “has a duty to make the moral case that such brutality and inhumanity can only bring shame upon the Palestinian people” (which, by the way, he’s never going to do).

But the Times also called the attack

a tragedy for all Israelis and Palestinians. The two communities appeared increasingly locked in a cycle of hatred and hopelessness, where chances for stability, much less permanent peace, seem nearly impossible.

… it also is part of an alarming wave of violence fueled by a dispute over a holy site in the Old City known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and to Jews as the Temple Mount.

The drift of that could not be clearer: both sides are at fault, both evincing “hatred” and “violence” that make peace “nearly impossible.”

But is that really true?

The attack on the synagogue immediately killed four Jews, three of them rabbis; a fifth person—an Israeli Druze policeman who fought the terrorists—died the following day.

In addition to those five, six other people have been killed by Palestinian terror since October 22: a three-month-old Israeli girl and an Ecuadorian woman in a car-ramming attack, an Israeli Druze border patrolman and a 17-year-old Israeli youth in another car-ramming attack, an off-duty Israeli soldier in a stabbing attack, and an Israeli woman in a car-ramming/stabbing attack.

Another Israeli, Rabbi Yehuda Glick, survived an attempt to shoot him to death by a Palestinian terrorist. And three other soldiers were injured in another car-ramming incident that now also turns out to have been a terror attack.

Now, in those five weeks, how many Palestinians have been killed or injured in terror attacks? The answer, of course, is none. The only Palestinians killed in the “conflict” have been those shot by Israeli policemen or soldiers during or after attacks.

By this standard, the United States and ISIS have been “locked in a cycle of hatred” and violence. Innocent Americans have been killed by ISIS; ISIS members have been killed in U.S. air strikes. It’s the same thing, isn’t it?

If you go back to last July 2, you’ll find a brutal murder by three Israelis of a 16-year-old Palestinian boy named Muhammad Abu Khdeir (supposed “revenge” for the earlier killing of three Israeli youths by Hamas members). The Israeli perpetrators of that crime, which shocked and horrified the whole country, are now in jail awaiting trial. The leader of the three was an individual so aberrant that he had earlier threatened to murder his one-month-old daughter.

Anyone who keeps track at all of this “conflict” knows the situation is very different on the Palestinian side, where murderers of Israelis—any Israelis—are systematically honored, glorified, and if possible, remunerated.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, behind the haze of disinformation and distortions of the New York Times and other big media, a sad but heartwarming event occurred in Israel.

Zidan Sayif, the 30-year-old Druze policeman who along with two other policemen fought the synagogue terrorists on Tuesday, paid for doing so with his life, and is survived by a wife and five-month-old daughter, was buried in the Druze village of Yanuh-Jat in northern Israel. The thousands in attendance included Druze notables and the Israeli president, internal security minister, police commissioner, and other officials.

And they also included hundreds of ultra-Orthodox Israeli Jews. The synagogue attacked on Tuesday was ultra-Orthodox. Although ultra-Orthodox Jews tend to be insular, they came out in appreciation of Zidan Sayif’s heroism as he and his fellow officers prevented what could have been a much larger massacre.

At the funeral, ultra-Orthodox Member of Knesset Eli Yishai said:

We all weep alongside the family. We are here to pay our last respects to a great hero who gave his life. . . . Your memory is forever engraved in our hearts.

Risha Segal, an ultra-Orthodox Jerusalem resident, had earlier posted online:

We are calling for widespread solidarity throughout Israel, with an emphasis on gratitude. We will not be ungrateful and will show our thanks for those who sacrificed their lives for us. This is one of the most important principles in Judaism.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu called Sayif’s father on Wednesday and said:

Your son’s bravery prevented many victims. On behalf of the citizens of Israel I want to offer my condolences for his death while fulfilling his duty. It is precisely at this time that you must raise your heads high with pride and know that the death of your son was not in vain. Thanks to him many citizens can now continue their lives.

And Sheikh Moafaq Tarif, spiritual leader of the Israeli Druze community, had this to say at the funeral:

The entire Druze community lowers its head together with the families of the victims of the terrible massacre in Jerusalem, and we hope for safer, quieter days ahead. We must take our covenant of blood and turn it into a covenant of life. We are a peace-seeking people, and our sons serve this state and the entire public, and we will continue to do so.

The Palestinian Arabs of the West Bank and Gaza, too, could live peacefully with the Jews of Israel and other peace-loving peoples of the Middle East. They could work out their differences with Israel without ramming, shooting, hacking, and stabbing men, women, and children. Realizing that, though, seems beyond the ken of the New York Times.

A death cult's new killing machines.

Hamas leaders have urged their followers to use their cars and knives to spill as much Jewish blood as possible. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas called on Palestinians to stop Jews from visiting the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, the holiest site in Judaism as well as the location of the Islamic Al Aqsa complex, by using “all means” necessary.

The calls for violence by top Palestinian authorities have been enthusiastically answered by thugs in the streets. Six Israelis have been killed in terror attacks in the last thirty days – not by rockets this time, but by cars and knives wielded as murder weapons against Israeli soldiers and civilians alike, including women and children.

On October 22nd, a member of Hamas rammed his car into pedestrians in Jerusalem, killing a three-month-old girl.

Last week, a Palestinian Jerusalem resident also turned his vehicle into a killing machine. An Israeli was killed and 13 others wounded when he aimed his vehicle at a group of people waiting at a light rail station. On the same day, yet another Palestinian ran into and wounded three Israeli soldiers near Jerusalem.

Leaders of Abbas’s party, Fatah, and of Hamas, Abbas’s partners in the so-called Palestinian “unity” government, shrugged their shoulders and said the attacks were perfectly “natural” or “normal” responses to Israeli policies. Indeed, they regard the killers as heroes.

As Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Ron Prosor said to reporters at UN headquarters in New York on November 10th:

A person doesn’t just wake up one day and decide to stab someone or ram his car into a crowd of people. These attacks are the results of years of anti-Israel indoctrination and the glorification of so-called martyrs. The incitement is everywhere. In schools, mosques and media, the Palestinian Authority is glorifying terrorists and celebrating attacks on Jews and Israelis.

Palestinians flocking to social media celebrated what they are calling the “Car Intifada.” A video of a new song with that catchy title, for example, appears on the MoslimMan.Rok Facebook page. It has become a hit that has Palestinians happily singing along to lyrics such as “Run over the two-month-old baby – that is how we get them.”

As reported by Palestinian Media Watch, another song popular on Palestinian social media included the words:

Run [them] over, destroy, annihilate, blow them up; Don’t let the Zionist live long… Today, the entire people demands a hero willing to fight with weapons. He began fighting with a car, running them over like rabbits.

Palestinian Media Watch also reported on a cartoon appearing on one of Fatah’s official Facebook pages (“Fatah-The Main Page”), which carried the label “the run over organization” and urged people to “Hit the gas at 199 [km/h] for Al-Aqsa.” On another Facebook page, “The National Liberation Movement – Fatah,” a cartoon is posted showing a car going after three fleeing stereotyped Jews wearing hats with the Star of David.

The car may be the Palestinians’ murder weapon of choice these days, but anything they can use to kill Jews, including women and children, will suffice. After all, they are just following the directions of their leaders. One of Hamas’s leaders said just last week, during a television interview, that even a Palestinian “who owns nothing but his faith has a kitchen in his house in which he has a knife.” It is his duty to “grab his knife and confront the Zionist enemy.”

Is it any surprise that in separate knifing incidents on November 10th, an Israeli soldier and a woman were stabbed to death by Palestinians practicing their “faith”? The soldier was killed in Tel Aviv by a Palestinian illegally there to look for work. The woman was killed at a traffic circle in the West Bank after the Palestinian murderer had tried and failed to run over people waiting at a bus station.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denounced Abbas for “spreading lies” and inciting violence. “Instead of teaching his people the path of peace, he teaches them the path of terrorism,” the prime minister said. Prime Minister Netanyahu also announced a series of stepped up security measures to deal with the mounting crisis.

The Obama administration and European Union issued tepid condemnations of the killings. “It is absolutely critical that the parties take every possible measure to protect civilians and de-escalate tensions,” said US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki. No kidding — but when it comes to the Palestinians who sing about killing babies, her pleadings fall on deaf ears.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon issued a statement on November 11th saying he was “deeply concerned about the upsurge in violence and killings over the past few days in Israel and the West Bank. Violence only deepens distrust.” The statement added, “while making more distant the prospects for peace between Israelis and Palestinians. The Secretary-General calls on all sides to do everything they possibly can to avoid further exacerbating an already tense environment.”

As usual, the UN at its highest levels refused to lay the blame for the latest spate of violence where it belongs: on the Palestinians and their leadership. The spokesperson’s office for the Secretary General, despite several requests for comment, has refused to specifically condemn the incendiary remarks of Palestinian Authority President Abbas and other Palestinian leaders. There has also been no UN condemnation of the Palestinians’ demand, which they have backed up with violence, that Jews and other non-Muslims be barred from worshipping anywhere on the Temple Mount. Instead, the UN, as well as the Obama administration, appear to support this demand in order to reduce tensions, even though the forcible exclusion of Jews and other non-Muslims from being able to worship at a site sacred to them is contrary to the basic human right of free exercise of religion.

Symbolic of the UN’s unconditional support for the Palestinians, no matter how badly they act, the United Nations hosted a fashion show to recognize the UN’s international year of solidarity with the Palestinian people. The event was held on November 10th, the same day of two murders of Israelis committed by Palestinians whom had been incited to their acts of violence by their leaders. As Israeli UN Ambassador Prosor asked rhetorically, “Solidarity with incitement? Solidarity with terror and extremism?” Apparently so.

While Israelis hail scientists, their "peace partners" hail terrorists.

As last week’s light rail car attack claims yet another victim – a 22-year-old Ecuadorian woman who sustained a mortal head wound – Palestinians are busy hailing the miscreant responsible for the cowardly attack that also claimed the life of a 3-month-old infant, as a hero and martyr. This abominable terrorist attack as well as the depraved Palestinian reaction to it comes on the heels of yet another monstrous Palestinian outrage involving the kidnapping-murder of three Israeli teens in the Judea district. There too, the perpetrators, confirmed to be Hamas operatives, were hailed as heroes by both Hamas and Mahmoud Abbas’s “moderate” government and accorded the highest religious honors. No doubt that their families will now receive hefty stipends from the Palestinian Authority, courtesy of the American and European taxpayer.

While Israelis laud their scientists, their artists, their doctors and multiple Nobel Prize nominees and recipients, Palestinians have a long and ignominious tradition of extolling the virtues of those who commit mass murder, slaughter innocents on buses and hijack commercial airliners. Public squares and streets are named after them and their children are taught to emulate them. The contrast between Israeli and Palestinian society could not be starker. One society celebrates and encourages progress and life while the other has morphed itself into a death cult, steeped in perverted traits that are an anathema to Western civilization.

Consider the respective reactions of the mothers of sons responsible for carrying out the Ottawa parliament building and Jerusalem light rail attacks. Susan Bibeau, the mother of Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, stated the following of her son’s heinous actions, “As a person and mother I am horrified by the actions of my son, I am sickened by it. I will never understand what drives a person to such senseless violence…” That is an appropriate emotion for random violence directed against the innocent. The mother of the Jerusalem terrorist by contrast, was pictured holding a glorified photograph of her son as if he had accomplished some great feat. She displays no shame over the fact that her son is a child murderer. Instead, she excuses his conduct by claiming that it was a mere traffic accident. Her abhorrent and unnatural behavior is encouraged, aided and abetted by the Palestinian Authority and its culture of death.

When three Israeli teens were kidnapped this past summer, Palestinians encouraged store owners in the vicinity to destroy CCTV footage to thwart apprehension of the perpetrators. By contrast, when a Palestinian teen was kidnapped, Israeli police swiftly secured CCTV footage and apprehended the culprits. The troubling aspect however, is that the Obama administration either willfully ignores the societal and moral disparity or just doesn’t get it and likely never will.

With respect to Palestinian society, I thought I had seen it all. I thought that their depravity and deviancy could stoop no lower. I was wrong. As exposed by Dan Smith from the blog Israellycool, Palestinians seem to revel in the blood of Jews killed not just in Israel but in far off places like Nepal.

On October 24, a tourist bus travelling from Kathmandu to the Langtang area in Nepal overturned and fell into a steep embankment killing at least 10 including 2 Israelis. A Palestinian affiliated Facebook group with a rather large following quickly posted the story and celebrated the deaths of the “Zionist” tourists. The post, which featured gruesome pictures of dead and injured tourists in twisted and grotesque postures quickly garnered over 10,000 “likes” and generated 1,000 shares and a similar number of comments. As Smith points out, the comments are beyond hideous and include the following:

Oh God, exterminate them and kill them vaporized and left them none

To hell

O limit the Zionist Jews and kill them, vaporize them and don’t leave any of them

To hell and good riddance, expand their dead Allah

Allah Akbar

Alhamdulillah

God burn them

The posts are universally racist and boorish. There are no expressions of sympathy for innocent travelers, no expressions of sadness for the loss of innocent lives and no expressions of empathy for the tormented families. To the Palestinians, all that matters is that two Jews were killed. Yippee! Time to pass out the sweets.

The Obama State Department's cold response to a fatal Palestinian terrorist attack in Jerusalem.

Following the depraved car attack and murder of a 3-month old infant (a US citizen) near the Ammunition Hill, Jerusalem light rail train station, the U.S. consulate in Jerusalem described the beastly attack as an ordinary “traffic accident.” Paradoxically, the State Department then ordered its personnel to refrain from using the light rail in certain parts of Jerusalem for a period of 30 days after which time the ban would be reviewed.

Despite all the evidence, including multiple surveillance videos showing that the driver was in complete control of his vehicle and deliberately careened his car into a crowd of unsuspecting pedestrians, the consulate, taking que from the State Department, absurdly decided to transform a palpable terrorist attack into a mundane traffic accident.

If in fact it was a traffic accident, why then did the State Department order a 30-day ban on light rail usage? This paradox presents us with some very troubling conclusions that reek of malevolence.

Quite obviously, the State Department knows that this was a terror attack in its purest form. It was random, indiscriminate and designed to sow fear, panic and maximum casualties. Quite obviously, the terrorist was motivated by blood lust and incited by the Palestinian Authority whose TV, Internet and radio broadcasts (funded by EU and US tax dollars) spew forth a steady diet of anti-Semitic venom. But for the State Department to acknowledge this as a terror attack is to acknowledge that the Palestinians are capable of acting with utmost brutality and depravity and this is a narrative that the State Department wishes to ignore and deep six.

By the same token, the Obama administration desires to undermine Israel at every turn and uses the vast bureaucratic tools at its disposal to carry out this pernicious goal. Hence, it bans its personnel from using the light rail as a way to weaken confidence in the light rail and thus challenge, however subtly, Israel’s sovereignty over its capital. We witnessed similar methodology from the Obama administration during Israel’s summer offensive against the genocidal, ISIS-like Hamas organization when the FAA, almost certainly under Obama’s direction, issued an absurd travel ban on Ben Gurion airport.

There is no airport in the world that is safer than Ben Gurion, but that misses the point. The purpose of the ban as many have speculated had nothing to do with security and everything to do with hurting Israeli interests under the guise of securing the safety of American citizens. If security of US citizens was paramount in Obama’s mind, why then did he not ban travel flights to and from West Africa, when the likelihood of an Ebola pandemic in the US was palpable?

It would not have been palatable for Obama to overtly attack Israel, one of America’s closest allies, while it was in the midst fighting a genocidal foe so Obama had to concoct other, more subtle methods to inflict damage. Bipartisan pressure and public outrage forced a quick reversal of the idiotic FAA directive but the damage – Hamas claimed it was victorious because of the ban – was done and the message Obama was sending was clear – I can hurt you Israel even if congress and the America people support you.

As Prime Minister Netanyahu and others have pointed out, what is also readily apparent is that the light rail terror attack was a direct result of Palestinian incitement, and not just incitement from expected quarters like Hamas, but also from Mahmoud Abbas’s “moderate” Palestinian authority, who hailed the baby killer as a hero and a martyr. But then again, the Palestinians have a long and disgraceful history of lauding those who in the West would be locked up in institutions for the criminally insane.

Of course, Obama and company will sweep these inconvenient indiscretions under the rug and continue to strong-arm Israel into making ludicrous concessions to a depraved enemy for empty promises and vague assurances. But so long as Obama continues to pursue a misguided and convoluted policy of distancing allies and appeasing Holocaust deniers, peace will be nothing more than another Obama pipe-dream.

The Islamic State’s threats to strike in Canada are carried out – while the media search for a motive.

Canada has experienced two murderous jihad terror attacks in the last three days, not long after the Islamic State called for such attacks – but the denial and obfuscation are as thick as ever.

On Monday, Ahmad Rouleau, a convert to Islam, hit two Canadian soldiers with his car, murdering Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent. Then he led police on a high-speed chase, during which he called 911 and explained that he was doing it all “in the name of Allah.” The chase, and Rouleau’s jihad, ended when he flipped his car and then, brandishing a knife, charged police, who shot him dead. One of Rouleau’s close friends said: “It was a terrorist attack and Martin died like he wanted to. That’s what happened….He did this because he wanted to reach paradise and assure paradise for his family. He wanted to be a martyr….The caliphate called all the Muslims on earth to fight. He listened to what they had to say and he did his part here.”

Then on Wednesday, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, who has been widely reported to be a recent convert to Islam but whose father is a veteran of the jihad in Libya and who has been a Muslim for at least three years, went on a shooting rampage in Ottawa, murdering military reservist Corporal Nathan Cirillo and engaging in a gun battle inside Canada’s Parliament building. Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird said that there was “no evidence at this stage” that Zehaf-Bibeau had connections to any jihad groups, but CNN reported that “according to a U.S. counterterrorism source, Zehaf-Bibeau was connected to Hasibullah Yusufzai through social media. Yusufzai is wanted by Canadian authorities for traveling overseas to fight alongside Islamist fighters in Syria.” And “other radicalized people connected to Zehaf-Bibeau are still believed to be living in Canada, two U.S. law enforcement officials said.”

So Zehaf-Bibeau had connections to at least one jihadist who went to Syria to wage jihad, and Rouleau listened to what the Islamic State was saying, and “did his part” in Canada. What was the Islamic State saying? Late in September, the Islamic State’s spokesman, Abu Muhammad Al-Adnani, urged Muslims to murder non-Muslims in the West. “Rely upon Allah,” he thundered, “and kill him in any manner or way however it may be. Do not ask for anyone’s advice and do not seek anyone’s verdict. Kill the disbeliever whether he is civilian or military, for they have the same ruling.” He also addressed Western non-Muslims: “You will not feel secure even in your bedrooms. You will pay the price when this crusade of yours collapses, and thereafter we will strike you in your homeland, and you will never be able to harm anyone afterwards.”

Al-Adnani told Muslims to murder non-Muslims with any weapon at hand, or anything that could be used as a weapon: “If you are not able to find an IED or a bullet, then single out the disbelieving American, Frenchman, or any of their allies. Smash his head with a rock, or slaughter him with a knife, or run him over with your car, or throw him down from a high place, or choke him, or poison him.” Zehaf-Bibeau found a bullet. Rouleau found a car.

Yet despite the indications that Rouleau and Zehaf-Bibeau were heeding the Islamic State’s call to wage jihad at home by any means possible, the mainstream media was ready before the blood had dried to swing into the usual denial and obfuscation about the motives and goals of their attacks. Before Zehaf-Bibeau’s identity was known, CBC’s Doug Stoffel tweeted: “Amid the speculation in the #OttawaShooting in #Canada, it’s important to remember #ISIS hasn’t shown interest in attacks abroad.” Once Zehaf-Bibeau was identified as the shooter and was known to be a Muslim, ABC News one-upped Stoffel’s flagrantly counter-factual statement with the claim that “authorities in Canada are trying to understand what motivated a gunman to kill a soldier in the country’s capital Wednesday.”

In reality, what motivated him was blazingly obvious, but it was the one thing most Western government officials and all of the mainstream media have determined to ignore, and so the search was one for some other remotely plausible motive that could be sold to a public that is increasingly suspicious of what the government and media elites are telling them. Toronto’s Globe and Mail quoted a friend of Zehaf-Bibeau saying, “I think he must have been mentally ill,” although the only evidence for this that the paper presented was that “his friend frequently talked about the presence of Shaytan in the world – an Arabic term for devils and demons” – in other words, that Zehaf-Bibeau spoke frequently of what are standard beliefs of mainstream Islam.

Speaking of mental illness, in the wake of the Ottawa shootings, the police chiefs of Toronto and Ottawa wrote to local Muslim leaders, assuring them of their good will and urging Muslims to contact them in case of a “backlash.” These politically correct police chiefs seem to have imbibed the lesson well: after every jihad attack, Muslims are the victims, and need special reassurances. Of course, there should be no “backlash” against any innocent people and almost certainly won’t be, but this endless pandering is grotesque. Who is reassuring non-Muslims about keeping them safe from jihad attacks? Who is calling upon Muslim leaders in Canada or anywhere else to back up their condemnations of jihad terror with real action against it, including programs to teach young Muslims to reject that understanding of Islam?

No one. And that’s why Ahmad Rouleau and Michael Zehaf-Bibeau are likely to be only the first two in a long line of Muslims in Canada who heed the Islamic State’s call and murder their infidel countrymen. As long as politically correct fictions are allowed to befog the harsh realities of jihad, the bottom line is simple: more people are going to die.

The moral sewer Chris Matthews bathes in to sanitize a president's bloody deeds.

Yesterday, President Obama finally addressed the Benghazi controversy, calling scrutiny of the edited talking points a “sideshow” and denying his administration was involved in a cover-up. “If this was some effort on our part to try to downplay what had happened or tamp it down, that would be a pretty odd thing that three days later we end up putting out all the information,” Obama said. “Who executes some sort of cover-up or effort to tamp things down for three days? So the whole thing defies logic.” Equally willing to defy logic was Obama’s MSNBC whore Chris Matthews, who has been more than eager to carry water for the Obama administration. Indeed, Matthews’ coverage of the unrelenting Benghazi scandal has distinguished itself as being particularly loathsome.

Last Thursday, Matthews was in fine form. After acknowledging that Greg Hicks, former deputy chief of mission in Libya, had testified before the House that he had spoken with Hillary Clinton on the night of the attack and that Clinton’s Chief of Staff tried to intimidate him into silence, Matthews downplayed the egregiousness of the former secretary of State’s scandalous behavior. The Obama administration was merely putting the “best face” on a terrible situation, Matthews said. “But it didn’t cause Chris Stevens to be killed, it didn’t cause the guys being killed by the mortar fire in the second attack, it didn’t really cause any damage except to Mitt Romney,” he continued. “And how is that going to offend the public?” In other words, four deaths and a subsequent cover-up are no big deal.

New York Times political reporter Jeremy Peters, on Matthews’ Hardball that night, parroted the host’s take, insisting the public wasn’t offended, and that any indignation was limited to “riling up a small part of the Republican base.” “You can’t go to a Republican town hall meeting these days without someone shouting ‘Benghazi! Benghazi!’” complained Peters. Incredibly, Matthews wondered what harm was done by the State Department removing references to terrorism from the post-attack talking points two weeks before the election. “What’s the big damage there?” he asked. Matthews neglected to connect for viewers that one of the president’s central campaign slogans was that terrorism was “on the run,” something that makes the cover-up of the jihadist murder of our ambassador and three Americans at the height of a presidential election much more nefarious.

The fact remains that, in answer to Matthews’ question, the “big damage” is that the Obama-Clinton Benghazi lies were indeed concocted to conceal their responsibility for the deaths of four Americans. When Senior NBC investigative reporter Lisa Meyers, also on the show Thursday, pointed out there were legitimate questions regarding the lack of security and contingency plans at the consulate in Benghazi, and that no effort was made to rescue the Americans trapped there, Matthews acknowledged that such a reality was problematic. But he quickly insisted Clinton “does care about her ambassadors” and then launched into a fantasy scenario involving Clinton moving heaven and earth to save Americans. Even Chris Stevens himself warranted more blame than Hillary and Obama: As Matthews asserted, Stevens knew what he was getting into when he went to Libya, “a country that wasn’t quite stable.”

Matthews then referred to Republican questions about Hillary’s character as a “clambake” and a “battle of the bands,” further insisting that going after Clinton’s character is part of the “Republican manual.” As far as Matthews is concerned, Clinton’s reference to the Islamic video as the cause of the attack, which has now been revealed as a bald-faced lie, was nothing more than “spin” perpetrated by Republicans. “The only thing that matters to the American people, was anyone derelict enough to let someone die who was a good guy,” he stated. Again, in this instance, Matthews conceals from viewers the indisputable fact of Clinton’s deadly negligence regarding consulate security concerns (lamented by Stevens himself), not to mention the multiple “stand down” orders issued by the administration, which needlessly left our people for dead.

On Monday, Matthews was even more virulent in his defense of the president. In an interview with Rep Mike Turner (R-OH), Matthews behaved like Obama’s personal attack dog. When Turner referred to the lie perpetrated by UN ambassador Susan Rice regarding the Muslim video narrative, Matthews demanded to know if Turner “has proof Obama was involved” in creating that narrative. He continually interrupted Turner when he tried to answer. “Tell me something I don’t know,” repeated Matthews. He then asked if Clinton was involved in editing the talking points. “Was the Secretary of State involved, because what’s going on here is that the big names are getting bopped by your party, which is the way it works. I just want you to tell me who did it,” Matthews complained.

Matthews’ clear intention was to imply that if there is no public trail leading directly to the president, calls for further investigation into the scandal can be dismissed as baseless. When Turner said the connection to high officials like President Obama was precisely what the committee is attempting to determine, Matthews became visibly angry, accusing Turner of making unwarranted accusations. “I think it’s odd to have an investigation to find out if you know what you’re talking about,” Matthews sneered.

“That’s what we’re trying to get down to,” Turner explained, noting that the president only released emails because Congress forced his hand. “He’s not stepped forward and said ‘excuse me, I’ve now learned that a lead administration official on my behalf told a fiction to the nation.’ That’s what he should be focused on, and that’s what we’re trying to find out,” Turner explained.

Here, Turner stumbled onto the crux of the issue, but he did not articulate it fully. Leftists like Matthews have defended Obama in the wake of Benghazi by casting doubt on the idea that the president knew that the Internet video story was a hoax when it was first peddled by Susan Rice on national television. Unfortunately for Matthews, this “plausible deniability” has proved to be most certainly false. Both Obama and Clinton served up the same lies spewed by Rice on multiple occasions after the attack, well after it was known that it was the work of jihadists. Obama and Clinton even took the charade so far as to appear in a Pakistani ad campaign denouncing the video. Obama himself used the Internet video narrative in a speech before the United Nations. Turner’s response should have been that if Obama didn’t approve the lie himself and was somehow misled, where is the outrage? Where are the heads of the people responsible for this ruse? The fact of the matter is there are no hides to be had because it is inconceivable that the commander-in-chief was the last in the chain of command to know the truth.

As a former speechwriter for President Carter, Chris Matthews is well aware of how government agencies operate and he knows full well that there isn’t the remotest chance that Susan Rice, after a major attack on the U.S., unilaterally decided to promote the Muslim video angle. He simply doesn’t care. As far as Matthews is concerned, his sitting president and his 2016 presidential candidate of choice must also be protected at all costs — even if anything resembling journalistic integrity gets sacrificed in the process. Matthews has demonstrated a willingness to destroy his own credibility for the sake of currying favor with those in power. That’s what media whores do.

Top official Richard Falk slithers through the sewer of Jew-hate and anti-Americanism.

While our nation continues to deal with the aftermath of the Boston Marathon terrorist bombings, which killed three people and wounded more than 260, jihadists and their sympathizers gloat, rationalize or turn the blame for the bombings back onto the United States and Israel. Leftists, who were so quick to accuse Tea Party members or right wingers for the bombings, have remained mostly silent as the truth of the Islamist roots of the bombing suspects became known.

The suspects, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, now dead, and his younger brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, now in custody, were described by one U.S. government official as “aspiring jihadists.” They were led to their alleged evil act by their understanding of their Muslim faith. Tellingly, on the Russian social networking site Vkontakte, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev described his world view as “Islam.”

They reportedly turned to Inspire magazine, an English-language online magazine published by Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, for bomb-building instructions.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is said to have told investigators that he and his brother were motivated to commit their alleged heinous act by the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also reportedly told investigators that he and his brother were not connected to any foreign terrorist groups. Whether true or not, they are certainly heroes in jihadist circles.

Members of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah were “dancing in the streets of Gaza, handing out candies to passerbys,” according to the Israeli News Agency. Mohammad al-Chalabi, the head of the Muslim Salafi group, which is a jihadist group headquartered in Jordan, proclaimed that he was “happy to see the horror in America.”

Amidst the outpouring of concern for the victims who lost lives and limbs at the hands of the jihadist bombers, a deluded caller to a PBS radio program, just hours after the bombings, said the bombings were a response to “our drone attacks,” while another caller explained it as “a kind of retribution for torture inflicted by American security forces acting under the authority of the government.”

Richard Falk – a top official of the United Nations Human Rights Council, who quoted these callers in his Foreign Policy Journal article, entitled “A Commentary on the Marathon Murders” – looked at the Boston terrorist attacks as an understandable reaction to the “American global domination project.”

Falk brought Israel into his discussion. “As long as Tel Aviv has the compliant ear of the American political establishment, those who wish for peace and justice in the world should not rest easy,” Falk wrote. And he took verbal shots at Israel’s “belligerent leader, Bibi Netanyahu” and at President Obama for “succumbing to the Beltway ethos of Israel First.”

Falk went on to write that “America’s military prowess and the abiding confidence of its leaders in hard power diplomacy makes the United States a menace to the world and to itself… We should be asking ourselves at this moment, ‘How many canaries will have to die before we awaken from our geopolitical fantasy of global domination?’”

Falk’s article, by the way, was carried by Al Jazeera.

When asked whether UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had anything to say about Falk’s outrageous rationalizations for the Boston bombings, a terrorist attack the Secretary General had himself condemned, the spokesperson for Ban Ki-moon noted that the Secretary General did not appoint Mr. Falk.

“Richard Falk speaks independently; he is not a representative of the Secretary-General, so he is free to say what he wants to say. The Secretary-General doesn’t comment on everything everybody says,” the spokesperson said.

Why then did Ban Ki-moon choose to so harshly condemn the anti-Muslim video last fall? After all, he is not responsible for the views of the producer who created the video either. And what of Ban Ki-moon’s declaration, in response to the video and the violence it supposedly sparked, that freedom of expression should only be guaranteed and protected when “used for common justice, common purpose?” He said that using freedom of expression to provoke “cannot be protected in such a way.” Whether one agrees with this very limited view of freedom of expression or not, it is certainly not consistent with the Secretary General’s reluctance to criticize Falk’s irresponsible comments on the Boston bombings on the grounds that Falk, even though he is associated with the UN, is free to say what he wants to say.

Some commentators would have us believe that the Tsarnaev brothers, who emigrated in 2002 or 2003 from Dagestan, a Russian republic adjoining Chechnya where Islamic jihad flourished, should be pitied as misunderstood immigrant kids having assimilation problems.

In an April 22nd New York Times op-ed article entitled “Immigrant Kids, Adrift,” the authors Marcelo M. Suárez-Orozco and Carola Suárez-Orozco wrote:

The alleged involvement of two ethnic Chechen brothers in the deadly attack at the Boston Marathon last week should prompt Americans to reflect on whether we do an adequate job assimilating immigrants who arrive in the United States as children or teenagers… Taking in what Emma Lazarus called the ‘wretched refuse,’ including asylum seekers like the Tsarnaev brothers, without providing a scaffold of support undermines the promise of America.

To the contrary, we should be reflecting on how we can be more vigilant and whether liberalized immigration policies now under consideration in Congress could make this task even more difficult. We should also examine why the FBI dropped the ball in not pressing forward aggressively with a thorough investigation of the older brother, after having received an inquiry from the Russian government. Why didn’t the FBI follow up on his contacts when he visited Russia for several months last year?

The Tsarnaev brothers turned on the country that gave them freedom, protected them from the violence plaguing their place of birth and bestowed on them vast opportunities for a better life, including a good education. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev became a U.S. citizen on September 11, 2012, while his older brother, a permanent U.S. resident, was still waiting to become a citizen when the Boston bombings took place. They had nothing legitimate to complain about regarding how the United States has treated them since their arrival on our shores.

These jihadists bear total responsibility for their evil actions, which were inspired by their evil ideology, not the country that took them in and gave them so much.

The Obama administration's modus operandi for defusing scandals.

Last week, the dwindling number of Americans who believe this administration owes them an honest explanation regarding the murders of ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans in Benghazi were likely expecting that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton might be forced to shed some light on the issue. What they got instead was a well-rehearsed theatrical presentation, complete with tears, anger and self-righteous indignation. When Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) contended that the administration had deliberately misled the American public, Clinton answered angrily. “With all due respect, the fact is we had four dead Americans,” she said. “Was it because of a protest, or was it because of guys out for a walk one night who decided they’d go kill some Americans? What difference–at this point–does it make? It is our job to figure out what happened, and do everything we can to prevent it from ever happening again, Senator.” That is an abject lie. As CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson has so masterfully revealed, the real “job” of this administration is to stonewall this scandal into irrelevancy.

Towards that end, Attkisson has compiled a list of penetrating questions Obama administration officials have steadfastly refused to answer, since she began asking them as early as last October. To wit:

–What time was Ambassador’s Stevens’ body recovered, what are the known details surrounding his disappearance and death, including where he/his body was taken/found/transported and by whom?

–Who made the decision not to convene the Counterterrorism Security Group (CSG) the night of the Benghazi attacks?

–We understand that convening the CSG[is] a protocol under Presidential directive (“NSPD-46”). Is that true? If not, please explain… if so, why was the protocol not followed? Is the Administration revising the applicable Presidential directive? If so, please explain.

–Who is the highest-ranking official who was aware of pre-911 security requests from US personnel in Libya?

–Who is/are the official(s) responsible for removing reference to al-Qaeda from the original CIA notes?

–Was the President aware of Gen. Petraeus’ potential problems prior to Thurs., Nov. 8, 2012? What was the earliest that any White House official was aware?

–What is your response to the President stating that on Sept. 12, he called 911 a terrorist attack, in light of his CBS interview…on that date in which he answered that it was too early to know whether it was a terrorist attack?

–Is anyone being held accountable for having no resources close enough to reach this high-threat area within 8+ hours on Sept. 11, and has the Administration taken steps to have resources available sooner in case of emergency in the future?

–A Benghazi victim’s family member stated that Mrs. Clinton told him she would find and arrest whoever made the anti-Islam video. Is this accurate? If so, what was Mrs. Clinton’s understanding at the time of what would be the grounds for arrest?

–The Administration is reported to have asked that the anti-Islamist YouTube video initially blamed in Benghazi be removed from YouTube. If true, what is the Administration’s view regarding other videos or future material that it may wish were not published, but are legal? What is the Administration’s criteria in general for requesting removal of a YouTube or other Internet video?

Attkisson further highlights administration stonewalling, noting that a White House official indicated that none of the above questions will be answered, and that Freedom of Information Acts (FOIAs) filed by CBS asking for answers from the State Department, CIA, FBI and Defense Department have been ignored. The same stonewalling applies to “repeated requests” for the “promised surveillance video from Benghazi,” White House photos taken on the night of the attack and “an accounting” of President Obama’s decisions and actions.

How does the administration get way with sweeping a monumental scandal like this one under the rug? Sunday night’s “60 Minutes” on CBS offered a perfect example of the overt media corruption that makes it possible. Despite the fact that Steve Croft scored an interview with both President Obama and Hillary Clinton, presenting him with a perfect opportunity to press the issue, here is the totality of questioning regarding Benghazi:

Kroft: “You said during the hearings, I mean, you’ve accepted responsibility. You’ve accepted the very critical findings of Admiral Mullen and Ambassador Pickering. As the New York Times put it, you accepted responsibility, but not blame. Do you feel guilty in any way, in–at a personal level? Do you blame yourself that you didn’t know or that you should have known?

Here’s how both Clinton and Obama “answered” the question.

Clinton: “Well, Steve, obviously, I deeply regret what happened, as I’ve said many times. I knew Chris Stevens. I sent him there originally. It was a great personal loss to lose him and three other brave Americans. But I also have looked back and tried to figure out what we could do so that nobody, insofar is possible, would be in this position again. And as the Accountability Review Board pointed out, we did fix responsibility appropriately. And we’re taking steps to implement that. But we also live in a dangerous world. And, you know, the people I’m proud to serve and work with in our diplomatic and development personnel ranks, they know it’s a dangerous and risky world. We just have to do everything we can to try to make it as secure as possible for them.”

Obama: “I think, you know, one of the things that humbles you as president, I’m sure Hillary feels the same way as secretary of state, is that you realize that all you can do every single day is to figure out a direction, make sure that you are working as hard as you can to put people in place where they can succeed, ask the right questions, shape the right strategy. But it’s going to be a team that both succeeds and fails. And it’s a process of constant improvement, because the world is big and it is chaotic. You know, I remember Bob Gates, you know, first thing he said to me, I think maybe first week or two that I was there and we were meeting in the Oval Office and he, obviously, been through seven presidents or something. And he says, ‘Mr. President, one thing I can guarantee you is that at this moment, somewhere, somehow, somebody in the federal government is screwing up.’ And, you know you’re– and so part of what you’re trying to do is to constantly improve systems and accountability and transparency to minimize those mistakes and ensure success. It is a dangerous world. And that’s part of the reason why we have to continue to get better.”

The so-called investigation by the Accountability Review Board took 13 weeks. It concluded that no one was responsible for the security breakdown that left four Americans dead, even as it completely ignored finding out why administration officials peddled the “Muslim video” excuse for the attacks. As for Obama callously characterizing this scandal as little more than one of an expected series of government “screw-ups,” perhaps the only thing worse was the president’s previous description of the murders as “bumps in the road.”

An American Thinker column by Daren Jonescu explains how this stonewalling not only serves the administration’s purposes regarding Benghazi, but the entire progressive agenda as well. After noting that Clinton could never have gotten away with saying, “what difference–at this point–does it make” in the days or even the first few weeks immediately following the attacks, Jonescu lays the progressive strategy bare:

“The key to the progressive ‘ratchet,’ as it is often, correctly, called, is that no step forward may ever be retraced. Each stage of degradation is to be rationalized after the fact, precisely by the means exemplified in Hillary Clinton’s stark question…Was modern public education conceived as a tool for preventing the development of individualism and exceptional men, in favor of a morally and intellectually stunted ‘workforce’ of the compliant to support an entrenched oligarchy?…Would ObamaCare’s individual mandate stand up to the judgment of the framers of the U.S. Constitution?…The key to the success of Western socialism’s ‘progress’ is not the periodic lurches toward the abyss. It is the art of effective stalling. All of today’s political and moral outrages will be rationalized with a shrug tomorrow: ‘What difference–at this point–does it make?’”

Before the November election, the Obama administration was embroiled in four major scandals: Fast and Furious gunrunning to Mexico, the leaking of top-secret intelligence information most likely from the White House, a string of “green” company bankruptcies tied to political donors, and Benghazi. In each case, this administration, abetted by fellow Democrats and see-no-evil media apparatchiks, has moved further and further away from the point where each one occurred, to the place where, at “this point” in time, this cavalcade of overt corruption can be characterized as an unnecessary or unseemly effort to “rehash” old news. Furthermore, if anyone dares to bring up Benghazi when Mrs. Clinton makes her inevitable run for presidency in 2016, this unholy alliance of protectors will undoubtedly accuse her detractors of misogyny for daring to bring up something that–at this point–no longer makes any difference.

Four dead Americans and no remotely credible explanation as to who was responsible or why, ought to say otherwise. That it doesn’t–and won’t–is a testament to the level of corruption that the majority of the public and the media are willing to tolerate, as long as the progressive cause is served. For the American left, there will always be screw-ups and bumps along the road to utopia. When the ends justify the means…what difference do they make?

American scout for Mumbai terrorist attack gets off light.

The 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India, claimed 166 victims from many nations, including six Americans: Ben Zion Chroman, Gavriel Holtzberg, Sandeep Jeswani, Alan Scherr, his daughter Naomi Scherr and Aryeh Leibish Teitelbaum. David Coleman Headley, the American who helped plan the attacks, avoided the death penalty or even life imprisonment and has been sentenced to 35 years. As one report noted, that works out to one year in prison for nearly every five people killed. The case raises questions about Pakistan’s involvement in terrorism and the collaboration of Americans in the attacks.

Headley, 52, was born Daood Gilani to a Pakistani father and American mother. He made five trips to Pakistan to train at camps operated by the terrorist organization Lashkar e Tayyiba, (LeT) which he later testified coordinated their operations with Pakistan’s intelligence service, the ISI. In 2006 Gilani changed his name to Daniel Coleman Headley to facilitate travel to India. Between 2006 and 2008 he made five trips to Mumbai. There he shot surveillance videos of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, the Chabad House Jewish community center, a train station and a children’s hospital. After each trip he traveled to Pakistan and gave the videos to LeT.

That intelligence work enabled 10 LeT terrorists to kill innocent civilians at random while being guided from Pakistan. The Chabad House Jewish community center was a primary target. Much of the three-day rampage was captured on video and PBS Frontline aired a documentary on the attacks.

Headley was arrested in 2009 and testified against Tahawwur Rana, a Chicago businessman who aided LeT and plotted to attack Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten for cartoons of Muhammad. Rana has been sentenced to 14 years in prison. In Rana’s trial Headley testified that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence agency coordinated with LeT. Pakistan denies the charge.

In the style of 9/11 the Mumbai attacks took India off guard but their Black Cats special forces eventually took down the terrorists and captured one alive, Mohammed Ajmal Kasab. India hanged him last year and Indian officials were disturbed by Headley’s light sentence in American courts.

Indian prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam told reporters that the sentence was “very meager, inadequate, insufficient” and that India would have imposed the death penalty. U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber agreed that Headley is a terrorist and deserved the death penalty. American Mumbai survivor Linda Ragsdale, shot in the back by one of the terrorists, testified that Headley has “lost his right to live as a free man” and that a sentence of 35 years would be an “appalling dishonor.”

As far as Pakistan’s involvement, innocent civilians everywhere have good reason never to believe anything until it has been officially denied. Pakistan was protecting Osama bin Laden and is doubtless smoldering over the U.S. operation to kill him, now being celebrated on film in Zero Dark Thirty.

Last September, an attack on Camp Bastion in Helmand province of Afghanistan destroyed six Harrier jets and damaged two others. The attackers were well equipped, wore U.S. Army uniforms, and the operation was clearly well planned rehearsed beyond what one would expect from the Taliban. That has led some observers to suspect official Pakistani involvement.

The attackers doubtless had inside information from someone who played a spotter role in the manner of David Coleman Headley. Though he escaped just punishment for collaboration in the Mumbai attacks, Headley was at least put on trial and sentenced to a long term in prison, from which he may never emerge. Meanwhile, no trial date has yet been set for Major Nidal Hasan, the U.S Army psychiatrist and jihadist who killed 13 and wounded 32 others at Fort Hood in 2009.

A comprehensive timeline and analysis of the events surrounding the terrorist attack against the U.S. mission.

Yesterday Hillary Clinton testified before a Congressional Committee regarding the deadly September 11, 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya. To better help Americans determine to what extent Mrs. Clinton’s testimony is truthful, DiscoverTheNetworks.org has compiled a comprehensive report and timeline that lays out all the most significant events that occurred before, during, and after September 11.

In this report, you learn that in March 2011, American diplomat Christopher Stevens was stationed in Benghazi as the American liaison to Libya’s “opposition” rebels — among whom were many al Qaeda-affiliated jihadists – who were fighting to topple the longstanding regime of President Muammar Qaddafi. In short, the Obama administration elected to support individuals and groups that were allied ideologically and tactically with al Qaeda.

Following Qaddafi’s fall from power in the summer of 2011, Ambassador Stevens was tasked with finding and securing the vast caches of powerful armaments which the Libyan dictator had amassed during his long reign. In turn, Stevens helped facilitate the transfer of these arms to the “opposition” rebels in Syria who were trying to topple yet another Arab dictator—Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. As in Libya, the rebels in Syria were likewise known to include al Qaeda and other Shariah-supremacist groups. In addition to facilitating arms transfers, Stevens’ duties also included the recruitment of Islamic jihadists from Libya and elsewhere in North Africa who were willing to personally go into combat against the Assad regime in Syria. The U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi served as a headquarters from which all the aforementioned activities could be coordinated with officials and diplomats from such countries as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.

As 2012 progressed, violent jihadist activity became increasingly commonplace in Benghazi. At or near the U.S. mission, for instance, there were many acts of terrorism featuring the use of guns, improvised explosive devices, hand grenades, rocket-propelled grenades, and car-bombs, to say nothing of the explicit threats against Americans issued by known terrorists like al Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri. As a result of such developments, Ambassador Stevens and others at the U.S. mission repeatedly asked the Obama administration for increased security provisions during 2012, but these requests were invariably denied or ignored.

Then, on the night of September 11, 2012, the U.S. mission in Benghazi was attacked by a large group of heavily armed terrorists who, over the course of seven hours, murdered four Americans and laid waste to the U.S. mission.

In the wake of the violence, the Obama administration immediately and persistently characterized what had occurred in Benghazi not as an act of terrorism, but as a spontaneous, unplanned uprising that just happened, coincidentally, to take place on the anniversary of 9/11. Moreover, the administration portrayed the attack as an event that had evolved from what began as a low-level protest against an obscure YouTube video that disparaged Muslims and their faith. In reality, however, by this time U.S. intelligence agencies had already gained more than enough evidence to conclude unequivocally that the attack on the mission in Benghazi was a planned terrorist incident, not a spontaneous act carried out in reaction to a video. Indeed, the video had nothing whatsoever to do with the attack.

And why more killing fields hover on the horizon in the president's Brave New Middle East.

It took some 22 hours for American help to arrive in Benghazi after all the t’s had been crossed and the i’s had been dotted, and the body of America’s ambassador to Libya had been dragged through the streets by “rescuers” stopping along the way to pose for cell phone pictures with his corpse.

By way of comparison it takes about 16 hours for a boatload of Libyan illegal immigrants to row to the Italian island of Lampedusa. Support for the Americans under fire in Libya would have arrived sooner if a few former members of the Harvard Rowing Team had gotten in one of the many rowboats beached on the shores of Lampedusa and pushed the oars all the way to Benghazi.

It says something about the current state of asymmetrical warfare that not only can Al Qaeda throw together a coordinated string of attacks on American embassies around the region without anyone being the wiser for it, but boatloads of migrants from Libya can reach Europe faster on muscle power than American forces can reach a mission under attack while equipped with jet power.

Obama Inc. blamed the second set of September 11 attacks on a movie, which was giving Al Qaeda credit for not only orchestrating worldwide attacks on American embassies and consulates, but doing it in a matter of days based on nothing more than a YouTube trailer. That would make Al Qaeda one of the more impressive organizations around, but the administration found it easier to give Al Qaeda credit that the terrorist group didn’t deserve rather than accept the blame that it did deserve.

When madmen in America shoot up schools or movie theaters, Obama blames the weapons they used and calls for gun control. When madmen in the Middle East shoot up American consulates and embassies, he blames movies and calls for film control.

Obama assured the nation that the “folks” responsible would be brought to justice. After three weeks of trying to get through Libyan immigration and dealing with concerns about conducting a criminal investigation in a war zone, the FBI finally made it to Benghazi, strolled around the compound for a few hours, took some pictures and then went home without interviewing any persons of interest.

An independent commission chaired by an Iranian lobbyist whose members were handpicked by Hillary Clinton conducted a review of what went wrong and found that the State Department probably should not have relied on an Islamist militia affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood for security, especially considering that its members had been going on strike for pay raises.

Four State Department officials resigned voluntarily, which in government lingo means that three of them took administrative leave and the fourth resigned one of his portfolios while keeping the rest. And the media declared that Benghazigate was over at last. Time for everyone to move on and close the book on another one of those Obama successes that up close look a lot like failures.

Three days after unilaterally deciding to go to war in Libya, while insisting on calling it something other than a war, Obama justified his intervention to the American people based on protecting what would shortly become Libya’s most famously infamous city. “We saw regime forces on the outskirts of the city… we knew that if we waited one more day, Benghazi… could suffer a massacre that would have reverberated across the region and stained the conscience of the world.”

But there was no massacre. Nor was there ever going to be one. The only people who were massacred in Benghazi were Americans.

Obama had not kicked off a war because he was genuinely worried about the “700,000 men, women and children who sought their freedom from fear,” but because the fall of Benghazi would have meant the end of the rebellion and the end of the Arab Spring.

The Libyan War was not fought so that the 700,000 men, women and children of Benghazi could go from living under the rule of a totalitarian government to living under the rule of totalitarian militias. That was just an unintended consequence. And it wasn’t the only such unintended consequence as Gaddafi’s Touraeg allies paired up with Al Qaeda to seize half of Mali and Libyan weapons were passed around to terrorist groups like Hamas.

Those unintended consequences came together on September 11 when those militias decided to commemorate the day with a round of attacks against American targets. Ground Zero for their campaign was Benghazi, the city where they were strongest because the heavily armed militias there had been growing fat on protection money. The same militia that attacked the Benghazi mission also provided security for the hospital where Ambassador Stevens was taken after the attack, providing gainful employment to Salafi terrorists from as far away as Iraq and Pakistan.

Obama had gained attention as a critic of the Iraq War, squawking about necessary wars to small crowds of wealthy elderly Marxists from Chicago, but no sooner had he gotten out of Iraq than he was jumping up and down on the diving board and splashing down into Libya to show how much smarter and better he was at fighting unnecessary wars than that ignorant Texan who shot first and nuanced later.

George W. had told the American people that there was a vital American interest in stopping Saddam, from getting his hands on WMDs. Barack H. told the American people that “it was not in our national interest” to let Gaddafi capture Benghazi. What national interest was at stake in keeping Benghazi run by homicidal Islamist militias tied to Al Qaeda will be a lot harder to find than Iraqi WMDs.

Benghazi though, as Obama put it while yukking it up with the media’s favorite liberal clown, was just one of those bumps in the road. The road began when Obama bombed Libya to keep Gaddafi from taking Benghazi. Along the way there were some bumps when American diplomats were forced to flee Benghazi, but the road goes ever on as it meanders through exotic locales such as Timbuktu, now under Al Qaeda control, and Aleppo, only under partial Al Qaeda control.

Obama pulled out of Iraq and Al Qaeda in Iraq showed up in Benghazi. Now it’s moved on to Syria. A year from now it may be in Jordan. The entire Middle East is a war zone now with terrorists and militias moving back and forth to feast on the instability and carve out their own private Benghazis where a man with a beard and a gun can provide protection in exchange for cash, and then take the weekend off to torch an American embassy or two.

This is Obama’s Brave New Middle East, born out of Benghazi, but coming everywhere. Four Americans dead in a single attack is not the scandal of it, but the symptom of it; those deaths are what happens when you tear down every allied government and replace them with mobs of gunmen whose constitution is the Koran and who despise the United States no matter how many bombs and press releases it drops in their defense.

“O brave new world,” Miranda exclaimed in The Tempest, “That has such people in’t!” Americans in Benghazi were confronted with the Brave New Middle East that Obama had made and the people who now live in it.

In every war there are those we leave behind; buried in graves in the green fields or falling as ashes scattered on the desert floor. When soldiers die in war, they are honored and remembered, but when they die in a war that is not a war, then there is nothing to remember. All that remains is the cover-up.

There are many inevitable things in this world. The sun must rise, a weight must displace water and Time Magazine must give Obama his second Person of the Year cover. The watchdog poodles of the press can never find enough honors to drape around the neck of their skinny Caesar fresh from his glorious cover-ups on the fields of deceit.

Obama went on the cover and the dead of Benghazi went into the great white grave between the lines of print, the space where all the untold and unread stories go. It is the job of the propaganda press to bury the dead in those wide white spaces while honoring the men who sent them to their deaths with swaths of spilled ink. And it is our job to open up those white spaces and remember what those in power would rather forget.

Three men died in Benghazi that day. They were not the first or the last casualties in the War on Terror. They were not even the first or last three men left to die by their own government to avoid offending the locals in a war that wasn’t a war. They did not make policy. They were sent to do a job and they tried to do it to the best of their abilities, above and beyond the call of duty, in a place that Obama had gone to war to defend, but that despite American intervention had a hatred of America and a love of Islamism that went deeper than blood.

Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were former Navy SEALS. Sean Smith was an information management officer. Three men buried in the deep white spaces where government cover-ups fall and disappear into. While Time Magazine celebrates Obama; these three men are Front Page’s Men of the Year.

Charles Woods, Tyrone’s father, said of his son, “He wasn’t even there. He was at a safe house about a mile away. He got the distress call. He heard them crying for help. That’s why he and Glenn risked their lives to go that extra mile just to take care of the situation. “

The CIA told Woods and Doherty to stand down, but they chose not to listen. Whatever dirty games were being played in D.C., they were there to protect Americans first. The two former SEALS managed to evacuate twenty mission employees while under attack by as many as two-hundred Islamist militia members pounding away with machine guns, mortars and RPGs.

In another time and place, Woods and Doherty would have walked away with Medals of Honor, but instead they were denied air support and left to die. There will be no medals for them. There was, after all, no war, just as there was no war at Fort Hood, just another of those misunderstandings that ends in body bags and a wave of new efforts to resolve our differences with the Muslim world.

“My son was an American hero and he was going, he had the moral strength to do what was right, even if that was going to cost him professionally, cost him his job, even if it would potentially cost him his life,” Charles Woods said of his son. “He was a hero who was willing to do whatever was necessary to respond to their prayers for help.”

Unfortunately the heroism of Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty was not matched by the White House, the State Department or the Pentagon. While Woods and Doherty raced forward to save the Americans trapped in the mission, despite being twice told to stand down, all that the White House had to do was authorize aerial support for the beleaguered compound. Instead the help that Woods and Doherty were expecting never came.

Doherty and Woods were killed by a mortar on the roof of the CIA annex in Benghazi. There were reports that they died while painting the mortar with a targeting laser for a gunship in the area, but instead of air support, there was only death.

The first U.S. military unit arrived in Libya over 15 hours after the attack was over, after an extended comedy of errors, and 19 hours after Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta first ordered preparations for deployment. Despite nearby US air bases, assistance managed to take about as long and convoluted a route to reach Benghazi as was humanly possible.

“I believe that Obama murdered my son,” Patricia Smith, Sean Smith’s mother, has said. “I firmly believe this.” Tyrone Woods’ father has agreed with her saying, “They refused to send in those C130s. To me, I’m an attorney; this may not be the legal test of murder. But to me that is not only cowardice, but those people who made the decision and who knew about the decision and lied about it, are murderers of my son.”

The difference between murderers and politicians is that murderers get put on trial while politicians get Time Magazine covers. At the State Department a few officials have agreed to resign to spare those higher up the inconvenience and discomfort of an investigation. And it’s all meant to balance out. A few die in Benghazi and a few lose their jobs in D.C. And then it’s time for another Time Magazine cover and another outing in Hawaii where the golf courses are smooth and the drinks are even smoother.

“The first casualty when war comes is truth,” Republican Senator Hiram W. Johnson, who had been Theodore Roosevelt’s running mate, had said.

Truth died in Libya even before the war that was never officially named a war began. Its first American casualties fell in Benghazi, but as the shockwaves of the Libyan conflict expand into Mali, Egypt and Syria, it is all too likely that they will not be the last.

Yesterday, US Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice withdrew herself from consideration to be the next Secretary of State. In a letter to the president obtained by NBC News, Rice contended that her nomination process “would be lengthy, disruptive and costly–to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities,” she wrote. “The tradeoff is simply not worth it to our country.” Later in the letter she aimed an obvious jab at Republicans who opposed her nomination. “The position of Secretary of State should never be politicized,” she contended.

Yet it was Rice who put herself in the position to bear the brunt of GOP criticism regarding the debate in Benghazi. Five days after the attack, Rice appeared on five Sunday talk shows peddling the administration’s initial lie that the murder of ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans was the result of a spontaneous demonstration precipitated by the “Innocence of Muslims” video. “What happened in Benghazi was in fact initially a spontaneous reaction to what had just transpired hours before in Cairo, almost a copycat of the demonstrations against our facility in Cairo, which were prompted, of course, by the video,” Rice said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

When that story fell apart, Rice contended that she had relied on the best information immediately following the attack, provided to her by the intelligence community. “I relied solely and squarely on the information provided to me by the intelligence community. I made clear that the information was preliminary and that our investigations would give us the definitive answers,” she said on November 21 at the United Nations.

By then Rice had already incurred the wrath of Republican Senators John McCain (R-AZ), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH). On November 14, they promised a Watergate-style investigation of Benghazi, and pledged to block her nomination, if Obama chose her to succeed Hillary Clinton. On the same day, the president angrily defended Rice against her critics. “If Senator McCain and Senator Graham and others want to go after somebody, they should go after me. And I’m happy to have that discussion with them. But for them to go after the U.N. ambassador, who had nothing to do with Benghazi and was simply making a presentation based on intelligence that she had received and to besmirch her reputation is outrageous.” That statement engendered an obvious question: if Rice had nothing to do with Benghazi, why was she the point person sent out to explain it to the American public? (An answer has not been forthcoming).

Other Democrats hopped on board, attempting to characterize all criticism of Rice as racist and sexist. “All of the things they have disliked about things that have gone on in the administration, they have never called a male unqualified, not bright, not trustworthy,” said Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH) the next chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus. “There is a clear sexism and racism that goes with these comments being made by unfortunately Sen. McCain and others.”

On November 27, Rice met with her critics in an effort to mend fences. It did not go well, with all three saying their concerns about her misleading statements had actually intensified. “The bottom line is that I’m more disturbed than I was before … about how four Americans died in Benghazi, Libya,” Graham contended.

Soon after that, other questions about Rice’s qualifications for the job began to be raised. The New York Times ran an article revealing that UN officials believe Rice is trying to shield the Rwandan government, and its president, Paul Kagame, from international censure, for their support of rebel groups precipitating “atrocities and brutal killings” in the Congo. The Washington Free Beacon reported that financial disclosure forms showed Rice had hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in several energy companies known for doing business with Iran. Breitbart News ran a column entitled “Top Ten Reasons to Oppose Susan Rice,” detailing a pattern of dubious behavior and lying going as far back as the Clinton administration. Highlights include Rice urging the administration not to call the Rwandan massacres genocide, fearful of the political impact on U.S. congressional elections in 1994; her efforts to block cooperation with the Sudanese government, even as they had offered to hand over Osama Bin Laden; her role at the UN, marked by chronic absenteeism and criticism of Israel; and, finally, her role in the Benghazi disinformation campaign.

Even as the truth about Bengahzi began to unfold, due to the tireless efforts of people like Fox News reporter Jennifer Griffin, CBS reporter Sharryl Attkisson, Breitbart and countless others, the president continued to support Rice. Even as the White House announced that Rice withdrew her name from consideration, the president rose to her defense. “While I deeply regret the unfair and misleading attacks on Susan Rice in recent weeks, her decision demonstrates the strength of her character, and an admirable commitment to rise above the politics of the moment to put our national interests first,” Obama said. “The American people can be proud to have a public servant of her caliber and character representing our country,” he added.

Far more likely is the reality that the president is trying to put a losing issue for his administration to rest as easily as possible and trying to portray himself as higher than the fray while doing it. As Fox’s Christian Whiton notes, it was “highly odd conduct” for the president to announce that Rice had withdrawn herself from consideration to be Secretary of State, “because Rice was never nominated. In instances like this, presidents usually just nominate someone else and decline to discuss discarded possibilities for appointments,” he writes.

He further contends that Rice likely would have been confirmed as Secretary of State because moderate Democrats “are long gone from Washington,” and “the partisan liberals who remain never break party lines on matters like this.” As for the Republicans, “the last thing they wanted was a confirmation hearing that inevitably would be construed by the media as unfair treatment of a black woman, even a demonstrably mendacious one.”

Despite that reality, he and others reach the obvious conclusion regarding why the president “blinked”: while Rice may have indeed been nominated, the distinct possibility that her confirmation hearings could have morphed into a full-blown investigation of the Benghazi debacle was likely a bridge too far for an administration that has, thus far, been enormously successful in keeping that debacle largely off the public’s radar. The clampdown has been so thorough that, as reported by Breitbart, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) reveals he has been “thwarted” by the State Department from seeing any of the Americans who survived the Benghazi attack, some of whom were badly injured and are still recovering.

A high-profile confirmation would have changed that dynamic, especially for a mainstream media that has demonstrated a deplorable indifference regarding the deaths of four Americans, and the ever-changing narrative that followed. That would be the same mainstream media already characterizing Rice as a “victim” of right-wing “advocacy media.” “This was all driven, in many cases, by some conservative outlets who were making her the center of the Benghazi story,” said NBC News’ Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd. “She sort of became a victim of this.”

Nonsense. Rice is no victim of anything other than her own willingness to shill for the Obama administration during a critical moment during the presidential election campaign. And what Todd calls advocacy media bears a striking resemblance to something he and many other network hacks only practice when there is a Republican administration embroiled in a scandal: genuine, no-holds barred investigative journalism that leads wherever it leads. Right now it is inexorably leading towards a showdown with the White House–one the president desperately wants to avoid.

Former CIA Director David Petraeus told Congress he never believed the Obama administration’s claim that the attack on a U.S. mission in Libya was a spontaneous mob action prompted by a crude anti-Islam video.

In closed-door testimony Friday, Petraeus said that he believed all along that Islamic terrorists attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on the 11th anniversary of 9/11. In so doing, Petraeus recanted his previous account two months ago of that terrible day that left four Americans dead in which he promoted the Obama administration’s official storyline.

“General Petraeus’ testimony today was that from the start he told us that this was a terrorist attack, that terrorists were involved from the start,” King said after the House Intelligence Committee sitting. “I told him in my question I had a very different recollection of that.”

“The clear impression we were given was that the overwhelming amount of evidence was that it arose out of a spontaneous demonstration and it was not a terrorist attack … he has, I think, a different impression of the impressions he left on Sept. 14.”

A CIA analyst also testified that the intelligence agency’s talking points for the White House immediately drafted after the attack specifically stated that al-Qaeda played a role in the attack that claimed the life of Ambassador Chris Stevens.

Somehow the passage about al-Qaeda disappeared from documents. “After it went through the process … that was taken out,” King said.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice monopolized the Sunday TV talk shows on Sept. 16, regurgitating the official version of events which blamed the attack on an obscure YouTube video that few around the world had actually seen at the time of the attack.

Critics say Rice was part of a pre-election cover-up and that she knowingly deceived the public. For a fortnight after the attack the Obama administration strenuously maintained the fiction that the incident in Benghazi, a known terrorist stronghold, was an organic popular uprising somehow inspired by an Ed Wood-quality anti-Islam video. Eventually the administration was forced to admit that what happened in that Libyan city was carried out by Islamic terrorists.

The lie about the true nature of the attack helped to prevent a spectacular implosion of President Obama’s claim that al-Qaeda was on the run and virtually irrelevant thanks to his policies. Weeks before this past election Obama bragged, “al-Qaeda is on the path to defeat and Osama bin Laden is dead.”

Benghazi could easily become Obama’s Watergate, potentially a presidency-ending scandal far worse than President Nixon’s cover-up of a bungled burglary.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton could be called to testify on the events in Libya. In 1974, she was part of a legal team advising the House Judiciary Committee. She may have participated in drafting the three articles of impeachment approved by the committee that accused President Nixon of acting in a manner “subversive of constitutional government, to the great prejudice of the cause of law and justice and to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.”

Obama almost certainly knew what was happening on the ground in Libya as it was happening and yet he did nothing, preferring instead to fly off to a fundraiser in Las Vegas. And if Obama didn’t know, that in itself is a devastating indictment of his presidency.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is determined to nip any talk of impeachment in the bud. On Friday, he dismissed three Republican senators’ demand for the creation of a Watergate-style congressional committee to investigate the attack in Benghazi.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) had written Reid a letter on Nov. 3 that was co-signed by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.)

“[I]t is essential for the Congress to conduct its own independent assessment of the attack in Benghazi … the complexity and gravity of this matter warrants the establishment of a temporary Select Committee that can conduct an integrated review of the many national security issues involved, which cut across multiple executive agencies and legislative committees – including Foreign Relations, Intelligence, Armed Services, and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.”

Justifiably confident that the mainstream media wouldn’t cause any trouble, Reid told the senators to take a long walk off a short pier.

In a Nov. 16 reply Reid said he won’t allow the Senate to become a “venue for baseless partisan attacks.” Several committees in the House and the Senate are already investigating the attack and a Watergate-style panel “may serve to further politicize an issue that has already been manipulated by Members of both the House and Senate in service of partisan agendas.”

Reid then accused Republicans of playing politics with the Benghazi scandal and putting American lives at risk.

“In the weeks following this terrorist attack, members of the Republican Party in both the House and Senate have misrepresented the facts as presented in numerous briefings by the United States Intelligence Community through a constant stream of falsehoods, exaggerations, and leaks of sensitive national security information.”

McCain “has gone so far as to make the outrageous claim that this event was ‘worse than Watergate’ – despite the fact that there is no evidence that any crime was committed, no evidence of any cover-up, and no evidence that the administration has characterized the incident in any way that has not been consistent with the Intelligence Community’s contemporaneous assessments.”

Reid also blasted House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) for “undertak[ing] a deeply flawed and partisan investigation with a clear intent to politicize this tragedy.”

Meanwhile, left-wingers are stepping up their attacks on Sen. McCain (R-Ariz.) for daring to criticize a senior member of the administration who happens to be black and female, two important victim groups in the Marxist catechism.

Setting the cause of civil rights and feminism back decades, a group of far-left lawmakers smeared McCain who said Ambassador Rice was “not qualified” to be secretary of state based on her statements about Benghazi. McCain said he would “do everything in my power to block her” from becoming America’s top diplomat. “She has proven that she either doesn’t understand or she is not willing to accept evidence on its face.”

With her racism and sexism decoder rings turned to maximum sensitivity, Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio), said, “There is a clear, a clear in my opinion, sexism and racism that goes with these comments that are being made by, unfortunately, Senator McCain and others.” Fudge is the incoming chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Where were these people when then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was being savagely attacked as an Uncle Tom and as a “skeezer” during the Bush administration? Oh wait, they were the ones doing the name-calling.

Rice, along with Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), are reportedly under consideration to replace Hillary Clinton as secretary of state.

Given President Obama’s micromanaging tendencies, it may not matter much who succeeds Clinton in Foggy Bottom.

In a post-American administration, American lives come second to winning over Muslims.

To understand what went wrong in the Benghazi mission, it’s important to begin by looking at what was so unique about it.

When the Islamist mobs began their September 11 rampage, they found embassies with high walls, heavy security and police protection. Even in Tunis and Cairo, where the Arab Spring Islamist regimes have been accused of collaborating with their fellow Salafists, there were credible military and police forces capable of preventing the kind of full scale assault that took place in Benghazi.

The mission in Benghazi, however, was an American diplomatic facility with few defenses in a city where the police were virtually helpless against the Islamist militias and where the national government had announced that it would allow the Salafists to destroy Sufi tombs rather than intervene.

On September 1, I wrote that the real implication of these remarks was that the Libyan government had given the Islamists a free hand and would take no action no matter what they did. And bloodshed was sure to follow. Ten days later it did.

After the fall of Saddam, American diplomatic facilities in Iraq did not remain unguarded or protected only by local militias. It was always understood that American diplomatic facilities in a country whose government had recently fallen were sitting ducks and needed heavy protection. The State Department cables show that this was something that quite a few of the Americans on the ground also understood. The Benghazi consulate had been attacked, and its next attack would only be a matter of time.

When Al Qaeda decided to commemorate September 11 with a wave of attacks on American diplomatic facilities across the Muslim world, from Tunis all the way to Indonesia, in a recreation of its own 1998 embassy attacks, its planners paid special attention to the one facility that was a soft target and surrounded by jihadist fighters. A facility that was a perfect target because it was completely exposed.

Benghazi should have either had the same protection that a similar facility in Iraq would have or it should have been closed down. Instead the State Department chose to rely on its friendly relations with the jihadists, having forgotten the story of the scorpion and the frog, trusting in an Islamist militia linked to the Muslim Brotherhood and to its future Al Qaeda-affiliated Ansar Al Sharia attackers to protect it.

The State Department was not being cheap. Its budget had climbed steadily under Obama and it could have set up another Green Zone in Benghazi if it chose to. But that would have been a flashback to the Bush era that represented everything the appeasement lobby had hated about those eight years.

Libya was meant to be a new kind of war. Not a display of American arrogance and unilateralism, but a show of submissiveness to the goals and ambitions of the Muslim world. In post-American diplomacy, the Americans did not arrive with a show of force, surrounded by Marines and heavy fortifications, but bent humbly under the defensive shield of the Islamist Ummah. Rather than exporting the Dar Al Harb, the Americans would ask for the protection of the Dar Al Islam.

The reason that the Navy SEALS were denied the support of a Spectre C-130U gunship was the same reason that the consulate had been left nearly unguarded. And it was the same reason that so many soldiers had died in Afghanistan because they had been denied air and artillery support or even the permission to open fire.

What happened in Benghazi was only extraordinary because it caught the attention of the public, but American soldiers in Afghanistan had been suffering under the same conditions ever since it was decided that winning the hearts and minds of Afghan civilians was more important than the lives of American soldiers.

The four Americans killed in Benghazi lived and died by the same code as thousands of Americans in Afghanistan. And that code overrode loyalty to one’s own people in favor of appeasing Muslims. The two former SEALS broke that code, violating orders by going to protect the consulate and were abandoned in the field by an administration that prioritized Muslim opinions over American lives.

From the post-American diplomatic perspective, the lives of a few Americans, who knew what they were getting into, was a small sacrifice to make when weighed against the potential of turning the entire Muslim world around. A Spectre gunship blasting away at an Islamist militia in the streets of Benghazi would have ended the fiction of a successful war in Libya and infuriated most of the Islamist militias. Worst of all, it would have made Americans seem like imperialists, instead of helpful aides to the Islamist transition of the Arab Spring. It would have ruined everything and so it was shut down.

Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods were not the first Americans to be abandoned by their country for diplomatic reasons. They will not be the last. And while we investigate and expose the decisions that their government made, it is important for us to remember that such decisions come out of a mindset that says there are diplomatic goals that are more important than American lives. This mindset did not begin with the War on Terror and it will not end until it is exposed for what it is.

During Israel’s descent into peace madness, its left-wing government coined a phrase for those Israelis killed in terrorist attacks, calling them, “Sacrifices of Peace.”

Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods are our government’s sacrifices of peace. They died so that we might go on in our futile effort to win over the Muslim world. And they are not the only ones. There is no way of knowing how many of the 1,500 Americans who were killed in Obama’s surge died because they were prevented from firing first or denied air support. But the number is likely to be in the hundreds.

Similarly 3,000 died in the attacks of September 11 because our diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia were too important to close the revolving door that allowed the terrorists such easy access to our country. They too were sacrifices of peace, burned on the altar of appeasement by a diplomatic establishment that puts the opinions of our enemies first and American lives last.

What went wrong in Benghazi is the same thing that went wrong in Afghanistan. It is the same thing that went wrong on the original September 11. It is the same thing that has gone wrong throughout the War on Terror. If we are to learn any lesson from what happened in Benghazi, it should be that American lives come before Muslim diplomacy and that any government which does not put American lives first, which does not take whatever measures are necessary to save their lives, regardless of what Muslims may think, is not an American government, but a post-American government.

New information on the function of the "consulate" paints a grim picture.

Over the weekend, the newest, and by far the most disturbing, revelations surrounding the Benghazi attack were revealed. Several sources have pointed to the possibility that a major CIA gun-running operation aimed at arming anti-Assad Al-Qaeda-affiliated forces was in danger of being exposed. If true, the information casts an even more devastating pall over the Benghazi terrorist attack and the administration’s botched handling of the region.

The decision to stand down as the Benghazi terrorist attack was underway was met with extreme opposition from the inside. The Washington Times‘s James Robbins, citing a source inside the military, reveals that General Carter Ham, commander of U.S. Africa Command, who got the same emails requesting help received by the White House, put a rapid response team together and notified the Pentagon it was ready to go. He was ordered to stay put. “His response was to screw it, he was going to help anyhow,” writes Robbins. “Within 30 seconds to a minute after making the move to respond, his second in command apprehended General Ham and told him that he was now relieved of his command.”

If true, Ham has apparently decided he wants no part of the responsibility for the decision not to help those in harm’s way. He is not alone. As the Weekly Standard‘s Bill Kristol revealed late Friday, a spokesperson, “presumably at the direction of CIA director David Petraeus,” released the following statement: “No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate.”

Obama himself is stonewalling. During a Friday interview in Denver, the president revealed he was determined to postpone any revelation about Benghazi until after the election. “The election has nothing to do with four brave Americans getting killed and us wanting to find out exactly what happened,” said Obama in answer to questions about possible denials of aid, and whether it’s fair that Americans will have to wait until after the election to find out the results of an investigation. On Saturday, Obama upped the ante, telling “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough that “if we find out there was a big breakdown and somebody didn’t do their job, they’ll be held accountable. Ultimately as Commander-in-Chief I am responsible and I don’t shy away from that responsibility.”

Several sources have come up with explosive answers accounting for the administration’s reticence.

According to WND’s Aaron Klein, “Egyptian security officials” revealed that Ambassador Christopher Stevens “played a central role in recruiting jihadists to fight Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria.” Stevens was reportedly a key contact for Saudi Arabian officials, who wanted to recruit fighters from North Africa and Libya, and send them to Syria by way of Turkey. The recruits were ostensibly screened by U.S. security organizations, and anyone thought to have engaged in fighting against Americans, including those who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, were not sent to engage Assad’s regime.

Yet as Klein further notes, reality is far different. The rebels the administration armed to fight Gaddafi, as well as those we may have armed to fight Assad, do include al-Qaeda members, and fighters from other jihadist groups as well.

As to the nature of the arms themselves, an October 6 report by the New York Times’ Robert Worth reveals that “Saudi Arabia and Qatar have been funneling money and small arms to Syria’s rebels but have refused to provide heavier weapons, such as shoulder-fired missiles, that could allow opposition fighters to bring down government aircraft, take out armored vehicles and turn the war’s tide.” The reason they have refused to provide more lethal weapons to the rebels is partly because “they have been discouraged by the United States, which fears the heavier weapons could end up in the hands of terrorists.”

Yet as Business Insider reveals “there’s growing evidence that U.S. agents–particularly murdered ambassador Chris Stevens–were at least aware of heavy weapons moving from Libya to jihadist Syrian rebels” (italic mine) and that, beginning in March 2011, Stevens was “working directly with Abdelhakim Belhadj of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group–a group that has now disbanded, with some fighters reportedly participating in the attack that took Stevens’ life.” In November 2011, the Daily Telegraph reported that “Belhadj, head of the Tripoli Military Council and the former leader of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, ‘met with Free Syrian Army leaders in Istanbul and on the border with Turkey,’ said a military official working with Mr Belhadj.” Reportedly, many of the militia groups that helped oust Gaddafi were eager to export their revolution to Syria.

Three days after the attack in Benghazi, it was revealed that “a Libyan ship carrying the largest consignment of weapons for Syria…has docked in Turkey,” with a cargo that “weighed 400 tons and included SA-7 surface-to-air anti-craft missiles and rocket-propelled grenades.” Business Insider speculates the weapons came “most likely from Muammar Gaddafi’s stock of about 20,000 portable heat-seeking missiles–the bulk of them SA-7s–that the Libyan leader obtained from the former Eastern bloc.”

The Insider then reaches a devastating conclusion. “And if the new Libyan government was sending seasoned Islamic fighters and 400 tons of heavy weapons to Syria through a port in southern Turkey–a deal brokered by Stevens’ primary Libyan contact (meaning Belhadj) during the Libyan revolution–then the governments of Turkey and the U.S. surely knew about it.”

But not just Turkey and the U.S. Canada Free Press columnist Doug Hagmann, citing a “well placed source with extensive knowledge about the attack,” claims that “Russia was fully aware of this operation and warned the U.S. not to engage in the destabilization of Syria, as doing so would endanger (Russian) national security interests.” He further asserts that Stevens’ final meeting in Benghazi on September 11 was with “his Turkish counterpart, who reportedly warned Stevens that the (gun-running) operation was compromised.”

That the administration was helping to arm the worst elements in the region — jihadist rebels also at war with the United States — may explain the administration’s vigorous stonewalling to date. Far from just a diplomatic mission in Libya, the evidence suggests that one of the explicit functions of the U.S. “consulate” was to oversee the transfer of Libyan weapons from the Gaddafi regime’s stockpile, including to the opposition in Syria.

“In short, it seems President Obama has been engaged in gun-walking on a massive scale,” Center for Security Policy president Frank Gaffney explains in the Washington Times. “The effect has been to equip America’s enemies to wage jihad not only against regimes it once claimed were our friends, but inevitably against us and our allies, as well. That would explain his administration’s desperate, and now-failing, bid to mislead the voters through the serial deflections of Benghazigate.”

But with the mainstream media refusing to press Obama and other administration officials on the facts surrounding the attack, it is unlikely there will be a breakthrough any time soon. If more concrete information emerges, it will certainly be after the election. In that case, win or lose, the Obama administration will face much more limited consequences for its lethal decisions.

Tragic terrorist attack was overshadowed by Benghazi, but critical questions remain.

Three days after the bloody 9/11 siege on our consulate in Benghazi, the Taliban waged an intricately coordinated, brutal attack on Camp Bastion in Afghanistan. The murderous jihadists released video exactly one month ago this week showing off their training exercises in preparation for the assault. Where are the questions?

Where’s the accountability? Where’s the Obama administration? Where’s the press? Where’s the outrage?

Two heroic U.S. Marines were killed in the battle. Their names — Lt. Col. Christopher Raible and Sgt. Bradley Atwell — have not been uttered publicly by the commander in chief. Their arrival back in the U.S., in flag-draped coffins, was not broadcast on network TV. But their brothers-in-arms did not and will not forget. And neither must we.

On September 20, John Gresham of the Defense Media Network wrote a scathing detailed breakdown of this little-noticed terrorist attack on our troops. He called it “arguably the worst day in USMC aviation history since the Tet Offensive of 1968.” Eight irreplaceable aircraft were destroyed or put out of action by Taliban warriors dressed in U.S. combat fatigues — amounting to “approximately 7 percent of the total flying USMC Harrier fleet,” Gresham reported.

His summary is bone chilling: “A Harrier squadron commander is dead, along with another Marine. Another nine personnel have been wounded, and the nearby Marines at Camp Freedom are now without effective fixed-wing air support. The USMC’s response to this disaster will be a telling report card on its leadership and organizational agility.”

On September 21, the left-leaning magazine The Atlantic published an article on the Camp Bastion attack titled “The U.S. Suffered Its Worst Airpower Loss Since Vietnam Last Week and No One Really Noticed.” A few right-leaning blogs raised troubling questions about preparedness and security.

“How did this band of radicals even manage to approach a highly advanced multi-national military base without being detected, much less force their way inside en masse?” asked Kim Zigfeld of the American Thinker. “How were they able to attack so quickly and efficiently that, even though nearly every one of them was killed in the effort, they were able to harm the mighty leathernecks more than they had been in half a century?”

National Review’s Jonathan Foreman wondered whether Pakistan was behind the attack.

“It seems likely that the special forces of a professional army planned the raid, and trained, advised and led the raiders — that is if they did not actually take part in it. Those special forces would, of course, be those of Pakistan,” Foreman posited. “This may sound shocking, but it would hardly be the first time that Pakistani special forces have operated in Afghanistan on behalf of Islamabad’s allies and proxies.”

President Obama has referred callously to the murders of our civilian diplomatic staff in Benghazi as “bumps in the road.” Even more maddening, though, is the radio silence from the White House about what happened that day at Camp Bastion — and what, if anything, Obama’s Pentagon did between the last major attack on Bastion in March and the bloody siege in September.

Somehow, a band of 15 insurgents managed to penetrate the wire with assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons on 9/14. Their destruction was of historic proportions. The attack came six months after U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta was the target of a failed suicide attack attempt at Bastion. The (UK) Sun reported at the time that an Afghani was believed to have made the deliberate attempt on Panetta after “he broke through defenses and drove a vehicle towards his aircraft. He then went past the perimeter surrounded by armed security and large concrete block guards. Disaster was only averted when the truck caught fire and crashed into a ditch on the runway close to where Mr. Panetta’s jet had landed or was set to land.”

Team Obama mocks GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney with snarky lines about bayonets and binders. The thin-skinned commander in chief exploits Seal Team Six to burnish his “leadership” cred. And the president’s campaign surrogates have ceaselessly attacked their critics as “unpatriotic” for questioning this administration’s commitment to national security.

But silence is complicity. The questions must be asked: Did politically correct rules of engagement hamper our troops’ defenses? Who knew what and when? Who was behind the attackers? And what is being done to ensure our front-line defenders of freedom are able to defend themselves?

With the Obama administration’s handling of the deadly attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi sliding from the realm of tragedy to farce and now to full-blown scandal, many truths are coming to light. First, administration officials tried to sell the American people an implausible story that a protest organically turned into a coordinated commando-style assault on the U.S. diplomatic compound. Second, this was done to protect the president from political damage by the reemergence of al Qaeda or al Qaeda-affiliated terror groups. After all those speeches about “the tide of war receding,” after all those reminders that “bin Laden is dead and GM is alive,” after all those leaks to The New York Times detailing the president’s hands-on role planning the bin Laden raid, authorizing drone strikes and launching cyber-attacks, the narrative could not become that the jihadists are still active, still capable of killing Americans, still waging war. And third, perhaps just as important, at least in terms of the future conduct of American foreign and defense policy, the administration’s Benghazi scandal has revealed that Mitt Romney was right.

Let’s begin the story on September 11, 2012. As that infamous YouTube video began to hit the public consciousness, the U.S. embassy in Cairo decided to release this statement: “The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims—as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions.”

That didn’t calm the anger of those outside the embassy, and protests turned into a full-blown riot in Cairo, prompting the embassy to declare, “This morning’s condemnation (issued before protest began) still stands.”

That angered Romney, who saw the episode in terms of American values—especially freedom of speech—and he believes that American embassies should always be exponents of those values. “It’s disgraceful that the Obama administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks,” he said, concluding, rightly, that a) the embassy is part of the administration and b) embassy officials had taken a blame-America position.

Interestingly, the administration also quickly disavowed the embassy’s statement: “No one in Washington approved that statement before it was released and it doesn’t reflect the views of the U.S. government.”

Soon, we were told, the rioting had spread to Benghazi and then turned deadly, as Ambassador Stevens and three in his staff were killed by an angry mob.

The Obama team then tried to turn its own botched handling of Benghazi into a Romney problem. “We are shocked that, at a time when the United States of America is confronting the tragic death of one of our diplomatic officers in Libya, Governor Romney would choose to launch a political attack,” the Obama campaign said.

President Obama added, “Gov. Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later. And as president, one of the things I’ve learned is you can’t do that.”

The president’s surrogates and his dutiful press pounced, concluding the episode revealed that Romney lacked the temperament to be commander-in-chief. Some called him “rash,” “irresponsible” and “craven.” Others dismissed his statements as “disgraceful,” “ill-timed” and “appalling.”

But Romney, to his credit, did not back down. “I think it’s a terrible course for America to stand in apology for our values, that instead when our grounds are being attacked and being breached, that the first response of the United States must be outrage at the breach of the sovereignty of our nation…An apology for America’s values is never the right course.”

He thoughtfully and calmly criticized the president for sending “mixed messages,” adding, “The statement that came from the administration—and the embassy is the administration…was a statement which is akin to apology and I think was a severe miscalculation.”

When the weekend rolled around, Ambassador Susan Rice led the charge to minimize the terrorist angle. “What our assessment is as of the present is in fact what began spontaneously in Benghazi as a reaction to what had transpired some hours earlier in Cairo where, of course, as you know, there was a violent protest outside of our embassy—sparked by this hateful video,” Rice said on several TV interviews. “But soon after that spontaneous protest began outside of our consulate in Benghazi, we believe that it looks like extremist elements, individuals, joined in.” (The ludicrous notion that an offensive video or cartoon can somehow justify violence, riots or murder is a subject for another essay.)

Others in the administration spun the same tale, straining to conflate the YouTube video, the protests and the deadly attacks. “I think it’s important to note with regards to that protest that there are protests taking place in different countries across the world that are responding to the movie that has circulated on the Internet,” White House spokesman Jay Carney explained.

Even the president tried to sell the fiction. “What we’ve seen over the last week, week and a half, is something that actually we’ve seen in the past, where there is an offensive video or cartoon directed at the prophet Muhammad…What we do know is that the natural protests that arose because of the outrage over the video were used as an excuse by extremists.”

Of course that is untrue, and was known to be untrue at the time. The Heritage Foundation’s helpful timeline notes that Libyan President Mohamed Magarief concluded, “no doubt that this [attack] was preplanned, predetermined.”

As the redoubtable Eli Lake has reported, citing “three separate U.S. intelligence officials,” “Within 24 hours of the 9-11 anniversary attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi, U.S. intelligence agencies had strong indications al Qaeda-affiliated operatives were behind the attack.”

And by October 9, the State Department had totally torpedoed the Obama-Rice story. When asked if the attacks were an outgrowth of some spontaneous riot, State Department officials said, “That was not our conclusion,” devastatingly adding, there wasn’t even a demonstration against the YouTube clip. “There had been nothing unusual during the day outside,” they said, noting that it wasn’t until late in the evening that they “saw on the security cameras that there were armed men invading the compound.”

Far from revealing that Romney lacks the temperament to be president, the Obama administration’s Benghazi scandal shows that Romney has the guts to stand up for America and her values—even in the face of withering political attacks—and the gut instinct to recognize a cover-up in the making.

The only obstacle standing in the way of an Islamist takeover of the country.

Sixteen Egyptian soldiers are dead after unidentified jihadists carried out a terrorist attack in the Sinai Peninsula, striking at the only institution standing in the way of an Islamist takeover of Egypt. The assailants were stopped as they entered Israel. The Muslim Brotherhood predictably accused Israeli intelligence of being responsible for the massacre, but all indications point to Al-Qaeda-type jihadists.

The operation began when about 35 terrorists traveling in three vehicles attacked an Egyptian military outpost, killing the 16 soldiers. They then went into Israel with bomb belts strapped to their waists and an armored car carrying about half a ton of explosives. The Israelis, who received a tip devoid of any actionable details over the weekend, launched three strikes, destroying the vehicle and six or seven terrorists. The rest escaped. It is thought that the terrorists wanted to kidnap an Israeli soldier.

The Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas condemned the attacks, with Egyptian President Morsi declaring three days of mourning. Palestinians living in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip are paying a heavy price. The Israelis were forced to close the only access route to Gaza, the Egyptians had to close the Rafah crossing point and Hamas closed down the underground tunnels used for smuggling.

Egyptian officials think the terrorists worked with colleagues in the Gaza Strip, though Hamas is not believed to have had a hand in these attacks. In June, an Israeli soldier was killed by terrorists operating in the Sinai. A group calling themselves “Magles Shoura al-Mujahaddin” said the attack was in honor of Ayman al-Zawahiri, the chief of Al-Qaeda.

Sunday’s attack is being compared to one that took place on August 18 that killed eight Israelis. The U.S. believes Al-Qaeda in the Sinai Peninsula carried it out with help from the Popular Resistance Committees based in Gaza and Jaish al-Islam, another Al-Qaeda affiliate. Al-Qaeda in the Sinai Peninsula declared its four goals after the attack took place: To institute Sharia Law in the Sinai Peninsula, force an end to the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty, cause Egypt to wage war on Israel and to end the unfair treatment of the Bedouins.

If Al-Qaeda is responsible, the timing is embarrassing for Hamas. On Thursday, Hamas released Abu al-Waleed al-Maqdissi after imprisoning him for 17 months. He was the leader of Tawhid and Jihad, an Al-Qaeda affiliate. He first joined Al-Qaeda in Iraq in 2003.

Israel debates what will come next.

In the wake of the terror attack on Israelis in Bulgaria that killed seven people and wounded 30 on the 18th anniversary of an attack on the Jewish community in Buenos Aires, Israel debates what comes next. The best answer can perhaps be found in the words of a Jewish prophet who passed away 72 years ago this week, Ze’ev Jabotinsky.

This situation of Jews being hunted and slaughtered like animals is the normal course of events and has been for the better part of the last four thousand years. Even today when there is a State of Israel, Jews are hunted. Some solace can be taken in knowing that today there is a Jewish army dedicated to finding the terrorists who perpetrated this attack upon the innocent. Only minutes after this attack occurred, soldiers of Israel boarded a plane to Bulgaria to work on finding the perpetrators.

Jabotinsky was a Revisionist Zionist leader, author, soldier, and founder of the Jewish Self-Defense Organization – and he had so many relevant words which guide what needs to be done in situations like this:

We were not created in order to teach morals and manners to our enemies. Let them learn these things for themselves. We want to hit back at anybody who harms us. Whoever does not repay a blow by a blow is also incapable of repaying a good deed in kind.

The terrorists will be found – and will pay a harsh price.

The Latin proverb says “of two evils choose the lesser.” When we are in a position where – through no fault of our own – physical force dominates, only one question can be asked: what is worse? To continue watching Jews being killed and the conviction grows that our lives our cheap, and among the whole world that we are spineless?…[T]he blackest of all characteristics is the tradition of the cheapness of Jewish blood, on the shedding of which there is no prohibition and for which you do not pay.

A price must be paid.

The Jew is everywhere in reach; he can be pointed out at any street corner; and he can be insulted or assaulted with only the minimum of risk, or with none at all. ..one permanent assignment that is entrusted to each of us, old and young, men and women, educated and ignorant, as a group and as individuals; this assignment is the defense of our people’s honor.

[...]

It is always aimed at us, and we must respond. We must end this abuse of ourselves, at all costs. And it is very easy. They spit in our faces without fear, “in passing,” for no reason – not because our insulters are blessed with courage and want to pick a fight with us, but because this pleasure is so cheap for them: they will spit at us and go on their way, and nothing will happen.

We must accustom them to the thought that from now on this pleasure will come at a hefty cost. A new commandment must enter our hearts: that even where there is only one Jew, the word ‘Zhid’ must not be heard without response.

Wise people will come and try to dissuade us – But it is not our purpose to win in every single incident. Our objective – to create about us the belief that a slur on our national feelings is no longer what it once was, a small diversion free of cost – but will rather, with an absolute certainty and a mathematical precision, result in a sharp and unpleasant confrontation.

As these quotes from the Jewish Garibaldi, Ze’ev Jabotinsky, said, during two thousand years of exile, the Jewish nation lost the habit of concentrating its willpower on an all important task, lost the habit of acting in unison as a people, lost the ability to defend itself, armed in case of emergency; instead, the Jews became accustomed to weakness. But today’s Jew understands that revenge is a Jewish concept, and a price will be paid for those who killed today.

May Hashem avenge their blood – and may the mighty military of Israel help that day come very soon.
