That means commemorating Thanksgiving by, according to the ACLU, beginning with a ‘land acknowledgement’.

I didn’t realize Indians invented pumpkins. Or that eating a food gives you perpetual rights over it. I remember when the ACLU at least pretended to be reality based, but now it has to sing the same woo-woo about the magical wisdom of any people that didn’t invent the wheel.

This land was conquered, not stolen. Without Whites, it would have been a vast wasteland until the Chinese took it over. If you think reservations would have been set aside under Chinese rule, you’d better think again.
I look at this differently. The Bureau of Indian Affairs budget is 3 $Billion a year. There not one person alive today that had anything to do with the treatment of American Indian’s in the past. The question to be asked is at what point will American Indian’s no longer be consider victim’s and all past injustices, real or imagined, have been sufficiently atoned and let all us innocent taxpayers off the hook for 3 $Billion a year. ? Insist on a specific time frame. 1 more year ? 5 , 10, 100, 1000 ?……never ?
Reservations are the perfect example of what government control of a group results in and what the left wants to do to America as a whole. Plus the poverty on reservations is due more to everything being held by the tribe. There is no individual ownership of property or home. Whoever is the Chief and his associates rule the tribe. Not all tribes are on reservation or at the mercy of the BIA.
The Seminole, Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes all own casinos and their tribal members live very very well. It is estimated that the members of the Seminole tribe receive up to six figures annually due to casino revenue. The Seminole tribe owns Hard Rock Hotels and Casinos in Florida.
The Comanche tribe in Oklahoma never had a reservation. Its members own their own home and property. I had a Comanche friend whose grandmother lived off of the oil and gas royalties her property produced.
Also members of Indian tribes get preferential treatment throughout their life. In college they get free tuition, in the workforce of any type they get preferred hiring etc.
Tribes, like American society, run the gamut from living in poverty to living middle and upper class lives. The ACLU trying to pigeonhole them for political points is a joke.

Decolonize the imperialist pigs. White Christians go last and can be argued to be second indigenous or the true indigenous people of the United States. Otherwise parts of Germany need to leave because they’re not Prussian, etc. Others, who live in other parts of Europe who are longer Goths or Visigoths need to give their land back. We don’t even want to get into the superhighway for invading armies the middle east.
What does decolonizing mean if it’s not practiced all over. Europe is probably the best place to start. I’m quite sure the AL CU wants a rigorous decolonizing of Europe.

Europeans did mistreat the American Indians, there is no question about that, but the true story of Thanksgiving is a story of friendship between Christian Europeans and American Indian, it is about a time when the Europeans were good to the American Indian and vice versa it is also the story of people fleeing persecution and finding a better life in America. As the early leaders of the USA acknowledged in many speeches, the settling of our country was an act of Divine Providence. Likewise the Spanish and the Portuguese settled Central and South America (which settlement was very violent). Both the natives and the settlers (especially during the period of westward movement) perpetrated many actions of violence. But wherever the Europeans went they went mostly as families and agrarians and lived tilling the soil, raising cattle, sheep, and goats, and creating small towns where families could grow and thrive, although prostitution, gun fights, drunkenness, and theft sometimes proliferated. The settlement of the USA was largely family oriented or family-centered to the extent hostility existed between them and the natives (hostility in both directions) it was not one sided in origin. The Europeans had concepts of property that the natives did not have, and their two notions clashed. The settlement and westward movement was not a movement of conquest as was the movement of the conquistadores in Central and South America. Although sometimes too aggressive, the settlement of America was not mainly a movement of conquest but a movement of settlement. Virginia was more commercial in its goals and aspirations than Massachusetts and New England, but even the search for gold and then the profitable cultivation of tobacco was not first and foremost a movement of conquest. And if blacks and hispanics today see many businesses in their neighborhoods owned and run by whites or Koreans or Muslims or Indians and start robbing those stores, is that because the storekeepers are stealing from the people in the neighborhood and the robberies are a just response?
