Gov. Gavin Newsom put on another one of his press events, blasting Trump and acting as if he had saved public education in California.
Governor Gavin Newsom today announced Californian student test scores for the 2024-2025 school year, which show significant continued progress made by K-12 students – with low-income students, Black students, and Latino students seeing particularly notable progress.
What does “notable progress” look like? Even the LA Times lists the actual sad numbers.
On the statewide tests, which were taken in the spring, 48.8% of students scored as “proficient” or “advanced” in English Language Arts, a gain of 1.8 percentage points from the spring of 2024, which built on smaller gains from the previous year. Still, the percentage scoring as advanced or proficient was 2.1 percentage points lower than in 2018-19, the last full year before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The trend was similar for math, with fewer students advanced or proficient overall. In math, 37.3% of tested students scored as proficient or advanced, again an increase of 1.8 percentage points from 2024. And 2024 was .9% percentage points better than 2023. However, the percentage of proficient students was lower than pre-pandemic, by 2.4 percentage points.
There’s a pattern here.
Democrats unleashed criminals in the Year of BLM and now keep protesting that crime is going down from the 2020 highs so their policies must be working.
They’re doing the same thing with test scores. After shutting down public education at the behest of teachers’ unions during the pandemic, now they suddenly want credit for improvements from their own manufactured crisis.

No wonder kids are are mostly retarded.
When Trump’s deportations send low performing kids back to Mexico, Newsome will probably take credit for that too.
And you can bet that if you went back to the basic tests for literacy and numeracy from 50 years ago very, very few would test even remotely near proficient, because they have been dumbing down the education system since the ’60s, it just took until the late ’70s for the effects to really start showing.
I went to primary school from 69 to 82 and the course work in the 70s was so easy I did it with my eyes closed. I once passed a class I never attended, not even once. (I took the final exam and scored an easy 100%. I had a friend give it to the “teacher.”)
Education in America is a joke but schools are expert at indoctrinating students in retarded leftism.
And CA is still pushing Wuhan flu shots on its citizens, particularly the elderly and kids.
I picked a Hell of a state to retire in. Shit.
I went to the public school systems in California in the late 1950’s to early 1970’s. It was challenging.
In elementary schools the 10 Commandments were posted above the chalkboards scaring the hell out of us children. Mostly the boys.
We were taught to be accountable by our parents, our teachers and neighbors.
If we lost, we got no participation trophies. You know what that did to me? Made me work harder and smarter. Which is why I am a self made millionaire a couple times over always looking at the next investment opportunity, Mostly in real estate but Invidia is a stock I will watch.
Public school education never teach anything but to be a good W2 employee and I tell ya, I’m a better entrepreneur than employee.
My main partner is GOD YHVH and Jesus Yeshua — THEY never let me down!
I have several other human entrepreneurial partners.
Yes, entreating citizens to be employees rather than entrepreneurs is a major flaw in American society. It really pisses me off.
That Mike Rowe guy from “Dirty Jobs” has said many times that college degrees are overrated and people who own their own businesses tend to be happy and successful. He’s right, and so are you.
mi heffy Jeffy — I am the King of Venice Beach — I fled California 2 weeks after I retire, but I will return to oust the homeless and the decay of Venice Beach and return it to it’s once glory – (Did Venice Beach every have a glory?)
The first place I lived as new born baby was Venice Beach.
My grandparents took me to see a movie being made on Windward and Main Street – that movie was “Touch Of Evil” – Orson Welles came out in makeup to talk to a lighting grip.
He turned to the spectators, looked down at me, looked up the crowd and spoke in his magnificent projecting voice; “Why is this child staring at me?”, then turned and walked into the night of Venice Beach.
Venice Beach is crazy, man. That boardwalk is a parade of characters who should be in movies. And the chicks are smoking hot and half naked. And I thought San Jose is a never ending parade of hot babes.
I grew up in boring Riverside CA. All sports and no brains.
What gets measured gets manipulated.
Why do governments insist on measuring GDP? Because it gives them an excuse to bring in more immigrants.
Correct Daniel. Numbers can, depending on how they are presented, show just about any outcome one can imagine.
These are the best math scores we’ve ever seen. (this year, in a month with an “R”, on a Tuesday morning). Hurray!
I have a better Idea why don’t Governor Nuisance so stand on his head fly a Kite spin Clockwise and whistle Dog and Butterfly
California ranks 48th in education out of the 50 states despite spending BY FAR the most taxpayer dollars on its faiilure. Of course, 80% of those bucks go to administrators, 18% to teachers and only 2% to actual students. Boy do I love paying taxes for parasites to gobble up. And my son is 19 years old and lives in Omahell Nebrascum so I’m paying taxes to people I don’t know and don’t want to know here in Californicate.
And Greasehead Newscum is using Proposition 50 to try and steal public choice from the California Citizens Redistricting Commission and give it to the State Legislature, which is the governing body in Californicate, and overwhelmingly Dirtbagocrat despite the fact that 48% of us vote Republican here. They plan to gerrymander CA into D-Bag Hell, of course. They even published fake maps of how they want to gerrymander the state, all fake, fake, fake, of course.. Well over 50% of real citizens vote Republican but there are so many illegal aliens here and D-Bags are such experts at cheating that our true numbers are severely underrepresented at 48%. The commercials and other advertisements claim Prop 50 preserves fictional “democracy” from the evil Trump, who has absolutely nothing to do with CA propositions.
And measure A increases the sales tax here by half a cent, which doesn’t seem like much but that shit adds up, like the extra nine tenths of a cent we pay for gasoline. The commercials and porinted material on the ballots claim that emegency rooms and hospitals may close without the tax. That’s how full of shit the CA government is.
CA. The only thing it has going for it besides mind blowing natural beauty is that men and fathers actually have rights here, unlike Omahell Nebrascum. I guess the legislators here can’t do EVERYTHING wrong, even though they try to.
Oh, well. At least I don’t have to live in Chicago or NYC.
The r best way to run our sates Schools is to let the Parents become Involved in what their Child is learning without the NEA and the Unions getter involved and without Thunberg or Hogg either
