The White City awaits me, Yeats’ poem at my rest,
the great Hagia Sophia rises aloft,
for Constantine, Isidor and all the dreams
of poets, saints, and philosophers, kneel in prayer, for the return!
Gliding through the Golden Horn,
Galata’s shadow spreads into the night passage through,
to the greatness of a Kingdom, we set forth
to ages long ago past, yet in my dreams, all is reborn.
We yearn again, sailing to Byzantium, finally and forever,
Rise, fall, lament and grow old, you await me, so close.
The city recedes into history, a mere shadow,
now of a fading faith, rot and decay but oh, such beauty.
The glory of history sweeps over, seeping into every stone and step,
from the great outer walls to the Hippodrome, I venture.
Think not of the fall of 1453, it overwhelms and consumes,
and such a sadness kept, for where has He been?
The fall and collapse upon us, one weeps in longing for
the greatness of Justinian, of loca sancta and mosaics of gold.
The white doves in flight from this heaven-sent place in time,
for from this earthly White City, He reigned for the ages,
still, eternity distant, all fades into horizons and many seas away,
the Return to come.

As things are going in Western Europe Rome is next.
great guy with an equally great mind
We really do need people like this to straighten out major problems
The Turkish government should be forced to tear down their ugly minarets and this church should be re-designated to orthodox Christianity. Why we allow them or their ugly mosques, or anything moslem in the West is beyond me.
that’s very good and I don’t normally like poetry.
Liberate Sophia!
Well, the Word of God did flourish in that region, then moved west.
There can be a glorious future. What all should do:
Acts 16:31 “…Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…”.
And what in part will the saint in the heaven’s experience?
Ephesians 2:6-7 “…made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:”
“That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.”
And from the vantage point in the heaven’s, the saints should observe this on the earth:
Isaiah 11:8-9 “…the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.”
“They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”
Same but more for Yerushalayim
If only we had the Battle of Yarmouk to do over again.
The way Western Europe is going Islamic Rome is next on the hit list.
One shouldn’t forget the Venicians and their greed that made the fall possible. So often the west blows its balls off for short term gain or something that looms that way. Had the Venicians responded with aid as they promised, Constantinople would probably not have fallen.
