California’s high-speed rail had a $9.95 billion bond measure back in 2008 that was supposed to link up LA, San Francisco and the Central Coast by 2020.
It’s 2025 and the budget has shot up to $128 billion. Sorry, let me correct that, it has shot up to $135 billion. By the time you read this, it’ll probably be up another few billion.
The Trump administration is pulling funding from the ‘train to nowhere’ because well, just look at the Gov. Newsom press release.
“The Authority has met every obligation, as confirmed by repeated federal reviews, as recently as February 2025. America’s only high-speed rail project underway is fast approaching the track-laying phase.”
After 17 years and cost overruns of 1300%, the train is ‘fast’ approaching the track-laying phase. Fast, like high-speed, being measured at the speed of government bureaucracy.
Forget the partisan politics and the animosity toward California, what kind of lunatic goes on funding a project that is off by this amount in time and money… and that has no rational purpose to begin with?
“Trump wants to hand China the future,” Gov Newsom declared. Does handing China the future somehow mean tricking it into spending 17 years on a $135 billion project that no one wants? If so, let’s hand China that future and it can pay for California’s train to nowhere.

If California had chosen a private company to develop and construct the high-speed train system, it would have been finished a decade ago. However, California being California, they decided to let government and lobbyists develop the project and then award no-bid contracts to their friends and accepted kickbacks and bribes to keep the funding going and the grift proceeding.
If a private company had mismanaged shareholder funds in such an egregious manner, the CEO, CFO, and entire board of directors would be under the prison. But because it’s government money and there is no turning off that spigot, there will never be a reckoning.
The only remnants will be the concrete bridge supports already built and the snail darters frolicking in the rivers. The money is long gone and no one will ever be held accountable.
California isn’t building it with public works divisions – they have been paying contractors of all kinds who have been getting filthy rich and giving kickbacks to those to keep the contracts payola.
A highschool student if given the task to build a train, would intuitively understand that the objective is to transport things or people from point A to point B. He might even ask the question about the cost per trip vs. other options.
A leftist government would not even consider that objective, as this project clearly shows. An audit will reveal what the government considered to be the rea; objectives of this project since the money went somewhere.
From over here on the otherside of the continent, it looks like pure fraud.
17 years … lol … I was against this stupid project from the beginning … one could drive to LA, or fly in an hour.
Yes and Indonesia built the world’s fastest bullet train system in just three years or so.
America has become a joke. I blame D-bag leftists and corrupt Repubes.
Trains to nowhere? They’re trains to the state Capitol in suckramento, if you ask me.
IF it’s ever built and IF it’s anything like the BART system up in the bay area, it will quickly become a tax payer subsidized mobile homeless shelter.
You’d have to have a death wish to want to ride on it and a strong constitution to withstand the urine and sh*t stained seats & floors, flies and maggots, vile graffiti, panhandlers ever 5 feet, garbage strewn everywhere and a smell so bad that it’ll numb your sinuses and pucker your sphincter.
And not to mention that it’ll likely cost you $100+ dollars while the homeless rides for free and are entitled to harass you the entire trip. And whatever you do, DON’T FALL ASLEEP!!
the solution to Rob’s concerns seems simple: each train car can be labeled for a specific use-
train car 1 = to be used as a toilet only
train car 2 = signs posted saying “for pot smoking only”
train car 3 = sleeping car for the mobile homeless
train car 4 = for trash only
thus, the commuters can ride in comfort in the remaining cars.
That Savoy Brown song is good.
Yeah, don’t fall asleep! You might get stabbed in the head and then have your’e corpse fucked be some lefty.
If you live in New Dork Shitty, anyway.
I live in CA but I ain’t doing it here, either.
There are dozens of Caltrains at the main railyard here in San Jose. I’ve never seen any of them move.
CA is a joke thanks to the D-Bags who rule it.
It’s not America that has become a joke but America’s government.
True. Most of us are responsible and normal. Semi-normal in my case.
And who would want to go to LA? I know I don’t want any “Angelinos” coming anywhere near me. The denizens of San Jose are bad enough.
LA is a lost cause, like many other big cities in Post America.
I was born L.A. but moved out a few years after graduating from college. I have no friends or living relatives in L.A. so there’s no reason to me to ever go there. The last time I spent more than an hour in L.A. was circa 2002. 2003 and that was to attend a funeral. The place was an open sh*t hole even back then.
These days I’m told that if you want to find downtown L.A., just follow your nose (i.e., let the intensity of the stench guide you.) L.A. has the largest homeless population in the continental US. There are a myriad of videos online to see it for yourself.
I’ve seen the videos of the tent “cities.” the employees at my local Walmart told me that the local derelicts regularly steal tents and sleeping bags.
Apparently they aren’t interested in hygiene products.
Hygiene? Hi Jean! How ya doing?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there a mountain range between the rail route and the California central coast?
It would seem this high speed rail is being built in slow motion. Is that some indication of the future speed?
Mute point anyway, Star Trek type transporters will be in operation before it’s finished.
In The Year 2525, if man is still alive…..
Hey!! Watch it there!! These insane California democrats are more than willing to spend $500+ billion dollars and how ever long it takes to build their “mobile homeless shelter.”
Besides, it’s “other peoples money” so what do they care? Obviously it’s not against the law for politicians to be irresponsible with other peoples money.
Anyone who dares to argue that it is has a lot of explaining to do starting with debt and deficits and how and why it happens and not one politician has ever been jailed for it.
Let the state of California fund its own train, leave the rest of us out.
This would be a GIANT “I TOLD YOU SO” opportunity for the leftists! Let the leftists pour THEIR MONEY into the project and when finished and trains running they can point their fingers at PRESIDENT TRUMP and say “I told you so”!! Yeah, that’s NEVER going to happen because it’s THEIR MONEY!! And really, most people reading this would be long gone before any passengers embarked!
I went to Taiwan once a year for business for 10 consecutive years. The high speed train linking Kaohsiung with Taipale took 2 years to build and start operating. I talked to an engineer working on the Taiwan HST. I rode Taiwan HSP in its inaugural first few months of operation.
it travels up to 225 mph – no seat belts because if it derails everyone and everything is going to be mashed together.
There has never been an accident on the Taiwan HST.
it took less time to take the HST in Taiwan from Taipei to Kaohsiung, about the distance between San Francisco to Los Angeles than to fly, factoring in security, boarding, and disembarking and travel to and from respective airports.
I flew into Hong Kong from Taipei in 2002 for the Chinese New Year.
Hong Kong built a new international airport. It took two years and then 24 hours shutting down the Hong Kong airport to transfer services. 24 hours, Then they were in operation.
People in their corporations have become filthy rich over the money laundering boondoggle of the California HST.
It will open in 2092 or perhaps sometime in 2100 if they start voting red in California.
I’ve been to Taiwan and Hong Kong. The main thing I remember was Taiwan has good food and Hong Kong is humid and sweaty enough to melt your balls off.
So cry me a River California Officials no one needs a High Speed Train from here to there we can save the Money for Border Wall and other things to keep out the Future Democrat Voters and Supporters
Instead of building a wall, the money would be better spent on bullets. Shoot enough of them and the rest will fear crossing the border into the US. Then you shoot the brave and fearless bastards who dare to cross in defiance. That will drive home the point to the rest of the brave and daring who wants to test their luck.
From here to there? You mean from here to Bum Phuque Nowhere. That way the politicians can spend and extra 250 billion dollars and the next 20+ years to re-route to the place called “There.”
Or perhaps another 2 billion dollars need to be spent studying the issue to determine if it’s a viable option. It’s other peoples money so why not?
A Prime example of how to waste time and money.
American politicians and federal bureaucrats can teach a master class on how to waste time & money. Nobody does it better than them. The amazing part is that it’s not due to corrupting, it’s the way the system was designed and operates.
Proof? Have a look at the Code of Federal Regulations. You’ll need a year or two to get through the 107,262 pages (as of Dec. 2024) Then there’s the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules of Practice & Procedure, Federal Statutes and Regulations, etc.
And we the American people sit back and take it up the wazoo oblivious to the fact that we’re getting phuqued 24/7/365. Alas, business as usual in the good ole USA.

What, exactly, prevents California from simply laying the track themselves? I have no objection to that.
Don’t be coy. You know damn well that that’s not going to happen. What you’re really saying is that you have no problems with illegal aliens being hired to lay the track.
Funny Mousseboy would mention China. During that same time period China has built 28000 miles of high speed rail, including thousands of miles of Maglev track. California can’t even keep water in their hydrants, I don’t know who really thought they could build a HSR there.
Now mousseboy is suing over Trump cancelling federal funding for the boondoggle. The DOJ should be suing these criminally incompetent fools to return any money they took from federal taxpayers.
It was former governor Jerry Brown’s wet dream to build a HSR. California democrat are determined to build it as a monument to him. His father, past California governor Pat Brown, is largely responsible for getting California’s freeway system built.
Democrats like Jerry Brown’s father don’t exist in today’s democrat party. In today’s democrat party, they would kick JFK and democrats like him out of the party.
Looking out for what’s best for America and the American people is antithetical to everything today’s modern democrat party stands for.
Proof? Their stand on illegal immigration and worst of all, they’re big proponents of MMT (Modern Monetary Theory.) A macroeconomic theory that says that government spending should not be restrained due to the fear of rising debt and that the government should print as much money as it needs. That economic theory has failed spectacularly everywhere it has been tried.
Yep, it’s on the same time-table as rebuilding the Palisades only more so…
Speaking of the Palisades, have you read the latest? Democrat politicians want to rebuild the are with “affordable housing.” That’s code for section 8 housing aka, ghetto projects and all that comes with it (e.g., drug dealing, drive-by shootings, loud music, graffiti, garbage strewn streets, burglaries, robberies, carjackings, etc.)
The area is prime real estate and wealthy democrat land owners in the area are really pissed. Good! It’s about time they got a good whiff of the bullsh*t they force upon the rest of us.
Newsom’s bullet train may have been one of the biggest State scams on the Federal gov’t. ever. I think Newsom wanted to draw this project out as long as possible so that he could keep asking the Fed gov’t for more money every year. The worst thing for Newsom would be if the train project was ever actually completed, then there would be no more reason to ask for continued funding. With 20 million illegals coming into the country under Biden, perhaps close to 50% of them came to California – so Newsom needs to get the cash from somewhere to keep all of his new voters fed and housed. The election of Trump threw a monkey wrench into little Fidel’s plans, as the federal cash spigot flowing to Cal. will now be turned off for the train to nowhere.
Just to set the record straight, the high speed rail IS NOT Newsom’s idea. It’s former governor Jerry Brown’s idea/wet dream. Newsom and the California democrat party are determined to build it as a monument to Jerry Brown.
The Kalifornia tracks to nowhere will only carry the ‘Long Black Train’
There needs to be an investigation into where all the money went these 17 years. It only took six years to build the Transcontinental Railroad along 1,776 miles. And after 17 years, not one rail has been laid in what was to be a 776 miles rail line. Plenty of pockets got filled with cash these 17 years.
They know where all the money went but they ain’t telling and we the tax payers can’t make them. And an investigation means more tax payers dollars fed to con men, grifters and friends and relatives of politicians. An investigation that goes nowhere and results in nothing but misspent tax payers dollars
That’s warn out twaddle (re: bullsh*t) that we the tax payers would rather not have to go through for the umpteenth time.
