Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is on the cusp of a majority government — not by the democratic choice of the people, but by a loophole which should have long been closed: Members of Parliament crossing the floor and joining another party once elected. It’s a low down trick for the grubbiest of politicians. “Carney on Cusp of Majority After Plucking Another Conservative,” by Brian Platt, Bloomberg News, April 8, 2026:
(Bloomberg) — Prime Minister Mark Carney is on the verge of a majority government in Parliament after securing another defection from the rival Conservatives — the fifth opposition lawmaker to change sides to the Liberals since the 2025 election.
Marilyn Gladu, who represents a district that sits on the US border in southwestern Ontario, said she is joining Carney’s party “to build our country’s strength and success with a more constructive, collaborative approach.”….
Here is what Elections Canada has on its website:
Democracy does not implement itself, nor does it remain strong and healthy without underlying values and a firm will to apply and enforce them. Democracy is much more than holding elections; however, free and fair elections are one of its fundamental conditions.
Over time, Canadians have come to trust the outcome of elections as truly reflecting their collective will without political interference. Political parties and candidates in the political arena have also learned that they can have confidence in the fairness of the electoral process. Together, these conditions contribute to a meaningful and peaceful environment for elections, and a lively and long-lasting democracy.
Yet, four Conservative Party of Canada Members of Parliament crossed the floor to become Liberals in the space of four and a half months. The real vexation should be against them even more than against the Liberals. What on earth could be going on in the Conservative party for four of its MP’s to cross the floor at this critical juncture, knowing that they were making a mockery of democracy and handing the far-left Carney a majority government? Not to mention undermining the electoral system in violation of the trust of Canadian voters.
Those of us in Canada who take the right to go to the polls seriously and have thumbed our noses at those who neglect to vote on election day are left gobsmacked. The political landscape in Canada leaves much to be desired.
Here is a list of the disgraced Conservative MP‘s who have crossed the floor to become Liberals, thus betraying their constituents who took their time to go to the polls to cast their vote for them as Conservatives:
- Christopher André d’Entremont MP for Acadie—Annapolis, Nova Scotia since 2019; crossed the floor November 5, 2025.
- Michael Ma is MP for Markham—Unionville, Ontario since 2025; crossed the floor December 11, 2025.
- Matthew James Arthur Jeneroux MP for Edmonton Riverbend since 2015; crossed the floor February 18, 2026.
- Marilyn Gladu MP for Sarnia—Lambton—Bkejwanong, Ontario since 2015; crossed the floor on April 8, 2026.
And then there’s Lori Idlout, who wasn’t a Conservative to begin with. She was a socialist from the New Democrat Party, so anything can be expected. She served as NDP MP for Nunavut since 2021, but crossed the floor to become a Liberal MP on March 10, 2026.
Meanwhile, Carney has now called for three by-elections to be held on April 13, 2026, in a strategic move to secure a majority government for the Liberal Party. Why wouldn’t he?
The byelections were triggered to fill vacancies in three ridings:
- University—Rosedale (Ontario): formerly held by Chrystia Freeland. She stepped down on January 9 to advise Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
- Scarborough Southwest (Ontario): formerly held by Bill Blair, who stepped down at the start of February. He was appointed as Canada’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
- Terrebonne (Quebec): This by-election was ordered by the Supreme Court of Canada after a ruling that nullified a previous one-vote victory by the Liberal candidate, Tatiana Auguste.
Now that the Liberals are short of majority rule by merely one seat, the upcoming byelections almost guarantee Carney a majority government, as two of those ridings, University—Rosedale and Scarborough Southwest, are Liberal strongholds.
Trump‘s quipping about a 51st state now looks paltry by comparison to the state of Canada’s politics.

The Great White North? Except for maple syrup and Canadian bacon, nothing good comes out of that place. Second City TV was good but that was a long time ago.
An exception for you, Williams.
Why do we import wood from Canada, you know, the wood Trump put a tariff on for national security reasons?
We all forget, (or didn’t know) that Churchill crossed the floor when his own Conservative majority wouldn’t stand up to Hitler. But he crossed back after becoming PM. Crossing the floor is no big deal in the UK.
“We have sustained an unmitigated defeat” was his opening remark when England allowed the death of Czechoslovakia.”
Looks like we gotta build another wall
That is an awfully long border to guard.
Not only does the practice betray constituents, but it triggers suspicions of bribery and/or the possibility that candidates intended to deliver their voting district to the other party, all along. Disingenuously, they pretend that votes are cast for the person, not the party – and that they can better serve their constituents’ interests as a member of the majority. Shady, at best.
Canada is lost. The people are great (most of them) but they’re under a dictatorship. I’m never going back to Chicago, NYC or the western provinces of Canada. They all reek of liberalism and death.
Whatever happened to Pierre Poilievre?
Whatever happened to Pierre Poilievre??
Poilievre is a first-rate politician who is already being wrongly blamed for the floor-crossings – a typical knee-jerk reaction like firing the coach of a losing team. Poilievre had it in the bag before Justin was replaced by Carney. Whether the floor-crossers had been merely posing as conservatives or motivated by ambitious self-interest, Poilievre cannot be held responsible.
You nailed that Larry. The media in Chinada along with some hefty outside help ensures that no Conservative government will ever be elected there again. Despite record breaking numbers of people using food banks, people dying in the ED waiting to see a doctor, tent ghettos everywhere and criminals being protected while victims get punished, far too many morons are eager for more of the same misery that the liberals have unleashed for more than a decade. This is all being carefully crafted to destroy Canada and then the CCP will march in and do a clean up. The only thing stopping the CCP from announcing their take over is the current POTUS. He wont allow that on his watch.
When we in the U.S. were haggling about the Electoral College a few years ago, I recall a telephone conversation between a Canadian resident of Alberta and Sean Hannity: the Canadian said that all of those residents of the Western provinces wish that there was an electoral college in Canada. He said the western provinces were sick of being ruled by the crowd in Quebec and Ontario, where the majority of the Canadians live. Looks like he could make that call again, maybe this time with a promise to President Trump that the US could be enlarged with British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan joining the US.
British Columbia is too far to the left to join the U.S. and Trump would not welcome them.
If I were a constituent in one of those floor-crossers’ ridings, I would be royally pissed… Running a campaign on one platform, convincing your constituents to vote for you, and then flipping the bird at them at the first opportunity to join the opposing party, smacks of hypocrisy, bribery, and opportunism. Carney knows exactly what he’s doing. Sadly, he is going to get his majority (voters be damned) and ride his high horse until the end of his term in 3+ years.
Carnage is just a little parrot for the CCP. There will never be any other party allowed to form government in Chinada ever again and that is just the way communism rolls.
Most folks have not figured out that the former country called Canada is now Chinada and is actually influenced heavily by the CCP. The elections in Chinada are merely a formality to appease the little peasants there. There will never ever be any government other than the whoever the CCP wants as their little parrots there. The only reason the Chinese flag is not flying there just yet is because the CCP see Trump as standing their way. Once he is gone the real party will get started. It is already a place with the very same policies as China where you can have your bank account frozen or be put into jail for merely expressing any views that do not please the thugs. There are Chinese police stations in some cities in Chinada and the liberals are eager to destroy our alliance with the USA and hook up with the communists in China. And unfortunately far too many morons in Chinada are eager to get on board with that. Oh Canada what have you done to yourselves!!!. You will rue the the day you trashed your long standing neighbor to the south and instead got into bed with the devil.
