If you’re keeping track of the media, Republicans shutting down the government are evil and those voting to reopen the government are moderates, while Democrats shutting down the government are principled warriors while those voting to reopen it are sellouts.
Democrats shut down the government for the optics rather than for any specific policy gains (despite all the whines about Obamacare) and they got what they wanted, victories nearly across the board in multiple elections and the perception that they have the wind at their backs in the midterms.
The problem is that for their base, the whole point of shutting down the government was to…
- Fight Trump regardless of whether any real gains are involved
- Achieve some kind of victory
And so there are howls of fury, some entirely performative about Democrats who ‘sold out’ by reopening the government. The performative gang is after Schumer and they’ll probably get him even though Sen. Schumer is managing to play both sides by leaking that he wanted to keep the government closed while quietly encouraging the reopening.
Media support and the simple fact of a Republican majority, no matter how narrow, ensured that the public would blame Republicans more for the shutdown (all evidence to the contrary) but they’re still blaming Dems, and saner voices understand that wrecking the country only goes so far. The less sane voices wanted to wreck the country more.
Now the Dems are debating whether they wrecked the country enough.

It is interesting that exactly the number of crossovers needed voted to end cloture. Not one vote more, not one vote less.
Of the 8 that voted for the bill:
— 2 are retiring at the end of their term.
— 2 aren’t due for reelection until 2030.
— 3 aren’t due for reelection until 2028 (One of which is Fetterman who already voted yes and is already likely to be heavily primaried.
— and the last is Angus King who is officially an independent that caucuses with the Dems.
Not a single one will be running for office this next cycle.
It’s almost as if Schumer picked 8 Dems to vote yes so he could open the government and still say he tried to keep it closed.
It’ll be interesting to see how the leftists twist themselves into knots trying to say the eight wanted to starve 42 million people.
Poor Dems. Uselessly hurting their allies and they didn’t even get a free tax-payer provided t-shirt out of it.
“I helped shut down the government, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.”
And they’ve answered, as they always do, “No, we haven’t.”
The Dem’s are definitely grasping at straws. There is little origination in the party.
Democrats know that the further into Trump’s presidency we go, the more he will blamed for anything that happens. The more chaos and confusion they can sow the better for them. The administration notched a bunch of big wins and has started to lose touch, the GOP in congress became totally complacent(which is nothing new). It’s time to get their heads on straight and buckle down. It’s not enough to just to point out how idiotic the democrats are.
What a mess. I donated a small amount, of money, to my church’s food bank, because of the shutdown, but I don’t have the resources to take the place of the SNAP program. Likewise when FEMA “Passed over” Trump houses. I begrudgingly sent a small donation to Samaritan’s Purse.
Following the fools gold of Islamist Zohran Mandani’s mayoral victory in the New York City cesspool, the Democ-rats are all jihadi/communists now. Who knows, maybe the national Democ-rats will actually usher in the millennial reign of Islam’s Twelfth Iman, starting in the Bronx.
I have a question. Is it true that the subsidizing of the ACA comes in the form of tax rebates and if you make say $50K per year, then you are likely to receive less (much less) in rebates than someone making $500K?
And if this is true, weren’t the Dems seeking tax breaks for the wealthy, which is something they clamor against?
And if this is true, wasn’t all this shutdown quack (quack is used in place of an expletive) really used for no good purpose at all?
And if this is true, why isn’t someone nailing the Dems on that point, considering all the trouble this shutdown has caused?
And lastly, am I not seeing something here?
Sorry. That was more than one question.
Meow.
“Now the Dems are debating whether they wrecked the country enough.”
The short answer is no. The dems are still aching and itching to inflict some serious hurt on anyone and everyone who voted for Trump and republicans.
The dems/leftists war on America has yet to go hot. What should really concern everyone is that they’ve enlist the aid of American terrorists (Antifa), Islamic terrorists (ISIS, Al Qaeda, Hamas, et al.), and central & south American drug cartels and smugglers to provoke Americans into a major civil conflict.
Don’t think it can’t happen. We’re teetering on the edge of a civil war right now and the left is prepared. With the hardcore socialists and the media’s help……
There won’t be any civil war until
1) ANTIFA and/or Islamic terrorists invade suburbs, attack civilians, and destroy/loot the stores we depend on.
2) disrupt rail and roadway delivery of necessities.
Until then, it’s just too far away to get upset about.
Politics is not really a dirty game but there are an awful lot of dirty players in it.
If anything politics is proving to be a blood sport. All the lies, lawsuits, threats and attempts to assassinate Trump proves as much.
It’s the new M.O. for democrats and anyone who dares to oppose them. At some point in the not to distance future, what often happens in Mexico to presidential candidates that the cartels don’t like will start to happen in this country and the liberal MSM will either cover up the truth or lie and obfuscate as commanded by the DNC.
