No, I’m not even going to dwell on the mass release of Islamic terrorists, Hamas getting what it wants along with its state sponsor, Qatar.
For America, this is a bad arrangement that ignores everything we learned about nation-building in Afghanistan and Iraq, (not to mention the original efforts to create a ‘Palestinian state’ and drags us back into believing that with enough money and democracy, every Islamist hellhole can be turned into Switzerland.
“Panels of experts”, “technocratic” government and “international investment” isn’t fixing Islam.

The architects of this deal have very short memories. Somehow they already forgotten 9/11 and subsequent failed adventures in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria. This deal is no different than the past failed experiments. Trump Who criticized Bush, for all his misadventures, he’s repeating it himself. Without any hesitation.
Trump admits it or not Islamic/Arab world is at war with The USA and the west. And Israel is the front line in this war of civilizations. Until Trump and the rest of western leaders admit it. Everything they do is delaying the inevitability of region wide war.

I agree with you Daniel but will play the other side. In favor, there is at least a temporary halt to the bloodshed. The hostages, alive and dead, are being returned to Israel. Hamas is being sidelined and Iran is further isolated, having taken no active part in the plan. The elements in the Arab world who really do want peace are now prominent and have a vested interest, both in prestige and financially, to ensure the peace plan works. The actors with stakes in the success of the plan are more numerous and more powerful than those who would seek to return to conflict. A generation of Gazans may grow up living in peace and relative prosperity, thereby breaking the cycle of violence and retribution. Convinced yet?
No! Until islam reforms itself and the likelihood of that is zero, I will never, NEVER believe these monsters who raped & mutilated women & children with joy.
Hamas has already started to re-group, calling thousands back into military service as the IDF pulls back. And so it goes, exactly as Daniel described and as anyone could predict who knows even a sliver of knowledge about the nature if Islam. Apparently, American leadership remains mired in self-imposed ignorance.
And related to that, of those who are calling out the stupidity of this so-called peace deal, of which there are prescious few, let’s name the players. Let’s stop acting as if this just happened magically. Trump needs to be called out, as well as Hegseth, and many others.
There are no miracles in politics nowadays, so this peace plan is the best we can hope for. Thanks to Israel’s and Trump’s power, Sunni Islam (modern, affluent, and thus conservative) won, and Shia Islam and its Muslim Brotherhood ally (revolutionary minority) lost. Let’s hope that an expanded Abraham Accords will solidify the gains and neutralize the remaining bad actors, such as Turkey (Erdogan’s Ottoman dreams) and Syria (natural instability after a long war). Blessed are the Peacemakers.

Daniel, I’m sure you are aware, but in case not, Israel National News is reporting that Israel plans to destroy all the terror tunnels once the hostages are returned. I thought of your outstanding assessment of this disasterous “peace deal” when I read this: “Israel’s greatest challenge after the stage of the hostage’s return will be destroying all of Hama’s terror tunnels in Gaza, directly by the IDF AND THE INTERNATIONAL MECHANISM WHICH WILL BE CREATED UNDER THE LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISION OF THE U.S.” It sounds to me like this amorphous “international mechanism” will have authority over what Israel does. Is anyone thoroughly disgusted yet???
Just read at JPost that there’s no commitment or clarity about what can/will happen if either side fails to follow through on what they said they’d do and states: THERE IS NO ENTITY TO WHICH COMPLAINTS CAN BE MADE, AND IF IT FAILS TO DO ITS JOB, ISRAEL IS NOT GIVEN THE RIGHT TO ACT OR STRIKE INDEPENDENTLY.”
There is so much wrong with that that I can’t even go there.

Trump is behaving like a circus clown. Touting the hordes of people cheering, both in Israel and in the Muslim world. (If they’re also cheering in the Muslim world, one should raise an eyebrow into whether this is better for them than for Israel, which we all know the answer to). He’s bloviating about what an amazing day this will be w/o any apparent grace and quiet humility and respect regarding the (presumed) release of Jews who’ve been held in unimaginable conditions for two years. And he’s proclaming that “The war in Gaza is over!” What???!! (1) He just set Israel up in a bad way if they need to go back in, and (2) the war is never over when the enemy is Islam.
I hope you and other leading voices on the right will write about Trump soon because he’s been a disaster on this front. An unmitigated disaster.
