Nashville Cop of the Year Attacked by Mob at Housing Project [Video]

Blue Lives Matter - except to thugs.

A Nashville cop named Officer of the Year in 2015 found himself in a struggle last week not only with a suspect, but with the crowd that had gathered to watch.

Responding to a shots fired and domestic call last week, Officer Matthew Cammarn arrived at a housing project on South 7th Street where he witnessed 22-year-old Brian Shannon reportedly assaulting a female. Cammarn intervened but Shannon responded aggressively and refused to be taken into custody. He grabbed the officer and pulled him to the ground. Cammarn wrestled with Shannon while a crowd gathered and a group of men started hitting the officer over the head.

As the local Fox news outlet reported, and as can be seen in the cell phone video above, others in the crowd pushed and pulled Cammarn in an effort to help Shannon break free. Some even stood by and gleefully recorded the assault on their cell phones, because that is now what young people do when violence breaks out.

Shannon got free and tried to run up South 6th Street but Cammern pursued and arrested him. He has been charged with felony aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, evading arrest, criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct and drug possession.

A 17-year-old was also charged with aggravated assault on Cammarn and evading arrest. He is being held at juvenile detention.

Officer Cammarn, who is also an Army vet, was named the MNPD's 2015 Police Officer of the Year for saving the life of a 17-year-old gunshot victim on N. 8th Street. But had he been forced, in this most recent altercation, to use his firearm to defend himself in this crowd of thugs, his previous life-saving heroism would be eclipsed by the story of a white police officer gunning down a black man. Cammern would be tried and convicted in the media and be branded a racist murderer. Black Lives Matter spokespeople would crucify him on MSNBC, CNN, Huffington Post, and every other left-leaning news outlet.

Few if any voices in the media would point out the disgusting fact that no one in the crowd attempted to help the officer subdue an attacker suspected of assaulting a woman. No political rally would be interrupted by police supporters chanting "Blue Lives Matter." No one would be discussing the tragedy that this is now what police officers are faced with in dangerous neighborhoods all over the country, particularly in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement's rise: open aggression from emboldened criminals and thugs who know that BLM and the cop-hating media will have their back.
