Trump clearly bit off more than he could chew when he promised that help was on the way. But neither he nor any leader can hope to defeat this never-ending Islamic madness.
“Bit off more than he could chew” is likely to account for many thousands of deaths.
If you’re an Iranian and you’ve just seen the U.S. remove the Venezuelan dictator from power, and then the President of the U.S. tells you to go all out because U.S. help is coming, then of course you’ll take risks that you wouldn’t otherwise.
Bush senior did the same when he called on the Kurds and Shi’ites of Iraq to rise up, because the U.S. would be there to help. Then he found out he’d “bitten off more than he could chew” when Gorbachev told him that the USSR had gone along with the ejection of Saddam from Kuwait, but wasn’t going to tolerate Saddam being deposed. Bush desperately needed Gorbachev’s support for the planned re-unification of Germany, and the liberalization of the Eastern Bloc (there were still Soviet troops in Eastern Europe), so tens of thousands of Iraqis ended up dying in futile uprisings.
If the Iranian regime is actually overthrown, its replacement will remember Trump’s hasty false promise.
not our problem. trump is weighing options. some years back opposition started to mobilize and the leaders apparently were begging the US to stay out of it. there is. literally nothing we can do that is ever right. This all started with Eisenhower telling dulles to destabilize the pound sterling if the english and french sent troops to egypt to stop the nationalization of the suez. He did not want to “piss off those arabs”. Dulles cried on his death bed to his cardinal son saying it was worst decision he had made. All american presidents have been on the wrong side of dealing with these people since. It is not going to be as easy as maduro to extract the leaders from Iran. If I were in trump’s position I would be asking pahlavi. If he tries and fails it will make the situation in country infinitely worse for those in opposition. he has pushed very hard with financial weapons and threats. Once the grand ayatollah who knows very well the country is massively against him refused trump’s offer for sanctuary the writing was on the wall . Only way this works is if the military defects. obviously if tens of thousands of people are being arrested tortured and murdered there are those who remain loyal to the regime. if they stand down it is over but that is the only way. A full scale invasion will fail. I doubt we have the military capability to launch or sustain full scale urban guerrilla warfare and it would be likely many seeking emancipation will still resent our presence. Only other sources I would trust are netanyahu and if willing prince mohammed bin salman.
Every day that passes, another few thousand young people are going to be killed by the regime. they might not be Hanged, but there are things called torcher and bullets to do the job.
