Mathias Döpfner is chairman and CEO of the media company Axel Springer. He is horrified at how Europe has failed Israel, and turned on the Jews of the world at their moment of greatest pain. A few weeks ago, I met Ofir Amir in Berlin. He is the co-founder and producer of the Nova Music Festival in Israel. Like me, Ofir is from Offenbach am Main before emigrating to Israel. Now he is organizing an exhibition that will be shown at various locations around the world, including Berlin, to commemorate the events and, above all, the victims of Oct. 7.
We talked about that day, the massacre, which Ferdinand von Schirach described in precise and unbearable words in WELT: “Videos show two dead Israeli female soldiers who were apparently shot directly in the vagina. One photo shows the body of a woman who had nails hammered into her thighs and groin area. A festival visitor testified that she hid under a tree during the massacre and covered herself with grass because she had been shot in the back. She said she saw a woman’s pants being pulled down to her knees. A man stood behind her and raped her. Every time she tried to pull away, he stabbed her in the back with a knife. According to the witness, another woman was raped by a terrorist while another man cut off her breasts with a box cutter. In Be’eri and Kfar Aza, the bodies of women and girls were found in six houses. They were naked, mutilated and bound. On that day, 1,139 people were murdered. Among them were 695 civilians, including 36 teenagers and children. A first responder testified before the Knesset that he had seen the severed skulls of three children.”
Ofir himself was seriously injured by shots to his legs. He survived only because he was able to hide and then simply got lucky. Now he is trying to cope with the trauma by organizing his memories.
Since this conversation about the events of Oct. 7, I keep asking myself how Ofir Amir can bear what happened after Oct. 7. How he can bear that victims are turned into perpetrators and perpetrators into victims. That more and more often, it is concealed who started this war, what is action and what is reaction. How he can bear it that justified criticism of decisions made by an Israeli government is mixed with deep-rooted hatred of Jews and that, as a result, instead of an obvious global wave of compassion and solidarity, a global wave of cold-heartedness and increasingly aggressive anti-Semitism has emerged. How he can bear what I can hardly bear, even though I am neither a victim nor a relative of victims.
Specifically: How do Ofir and millions of Jews around the world bear the fact that cookies were distributed and celebrations were held on the streets of Berlin on the evening of Oct. 7 and thereafter? That the people of Tehran celebrated the attack with public fireworks? That there was no distancing of the civilian population in Gaza, but instead cheering and desecration of Jewish corpses, which was then proudly captured in photos and videos and shared on social media?
How can Ofir bear that only a few weeks after the massacre, long before discussions about the appropriateness of Israeli retaliatory measures had begun, a representative survey by Harvard University found 60 percent of Americans between the ages of 18 and 24 believed that the “killing of 1,200 Israelis was justified by the perceived grievance of the Palestinians”? Or that in an open letter signed by 144 Columbia University professors, the Hamas attack was described as “the exercise of the right of resistance of an occupied people against a violent and illegal occupation”? In a survey by The Economist, one in five young Americans aged 18 to 29 believed that the genocide of six million Jews was a myth….
In 2025, Jews will also be killed in Washington and Manchester because they are Jews.
What will happen in Gaza during this historic week in Oct. 2025, whether Donald Trump will succeed where Europe failed to end the dying through a policy of solidarity and strength, is still unclear. What is clear, however, is that when it really mattered, Europe and large parts of the free world failed. The old anti-Semitic propaganda poison is still working: Once again, the Jews are to blame for everything. Even for their own murder….

No population in Europe stands up for its existence any longer. That day has passed. One source of anti-Semitism is that Israel needs to be forced to accept the inevitable by not standing up for its existence just like Europe. Countries with boundaries are passe.
Well, the Jews have been around for at least 35oo years both with boundaries and without, perhaps longer depending upon when your count starts. Jews are happy to be Jews whether they are living in peace or are under duress. No Jew would want to be part of the oppressing group if they understand their heritage.
Israel must be characterized by its enemies as oppressive. Otherwise, something would be desperately wrong with Leftist dogma. Israel is so different from the envisioned Utopia of the Left that the Jews must be eliminated. Otherwise, the detested Jews, by their example, would jeopardize the entire Leftist enterprise.
The Right does not get away free here. I speculate that Tucker Carlson’s abandonment by his mother in some way informs his attraction to anti-Semitic narratives. More research would be needed, but in general early disturbance of family relations leaves its mark for a person’s lifetime.

Not true. No heritage white populations in Europe may stand up for their existence as hostile foreign populations are paid well by treasonous governments to replace them.
This has been done against the will of the heritage populations, as it is also being done here. Who is behind the massive open borders movement?
Jews have never tolerated this in Israel, and one source of jew hatred comes from the belief that Jews are hypocrites in encouraging and financing open borders in western Christian nations while scrupulously protecting Israel as an ethno-state so Jews remain a significant majority.
Jews have had an outsized influence in the open borders catastrophe, but Christian NGO’s are certainly not innocent.
Blame is often placed without any negative action by the scapegoat other than the example set by its actions that demonstrate the shortcomings of others.

That’s an absurd take. There are approx 2.7 billion Christians worldwide. Clearly the world doesn’t hate Jesus Further, the Jews are one group in particular that doesn’t believe Jesus is the Messiah. People hate Jews for a variety of reasons, but Jesus isn’t one of them.
Christian teaching has always been unacceptable to the world. For one thing, how could the nations prosecute their seemingly endless wars if people followed Jesus’ teaching and refused to take up weapons with which to hurt and kill their brothers?
Re the article, I am old enough to remember a time when us Brits/Europeans had a lot of confidence in our own ways and we did feel entitled to expect those who came to live in the UK to conform, within reason. My father, as a Polish displaced person, was expected to fit in, and did his best to. But over the years we have been taught that that viewpoint was arrogant and wrong.
I guess neither viewpoint was perfect. And both have their drawbacks. As Jeremiah, speaking under inspiration, warned: “It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step”. Which is why we are living in such a tragedy. But a rescue is on the way – so close now. Please do look at Daniel 2:44 for example and think about what it promises.
The Jews in Congress — Schiff, Schumer, Nadler, et al — are entirely complicit in the massacre and media demonization of Israel. May their bones be ground to dust.
Lock and load. And as a free American with second amendment
rights, stay that way – as self defense against what a Muslim jihadist
or group of Muslim jihadists might suddenly do. After all, the year
2025 began in America with a Muslim terrorist in New Orleans using
a truck to kill 15 of us and injure 35 more. Don’t bother to lock and
load against Jews. They will always and unfailingly live beside you
in peace.
That should tell you something right there – about towards whom
your worry, fright, anger – and scorn should be directed.
No matter what rampaging phony Palestinian protestors scream and
threaten about the Jews and Israel – what Jew-hatred the college
professors spew – what idealistic, abysmally ignorant youths believe,
and what lies Marxist/Communist/Globalist politicians and leaders
here and abroad (in cahoots with all the Muslim countries of the Middle
East) try to convince you of about Israel and the Jews.
I don’t know how Jews today are bearing it either. especially after reading
in this article just a smattering of the jihad sadistic terror inflicted on them
on 10/07/23. May God help them. I wonder how those jihad victims fared
during this past year in New Orleans.
