Journalism is partly about instinct and partly about experience. The two work together. Dig into enough stories and alarm bells go off and red flags wave. The pattern recognition kicks in because your subconscious spots something off.
With leftists, one of the most obvious red flags is a hard-luck working class story.
Leftists love those, but they are so very rarely true. Take Gov. Gavin Newsom, the third generation of wealthy power players in California Dem politics, tried to pretend to be working class.
But sometimes the costume is better.
Take Graham Platner, the subject of my story today, the ‘oysterman’ candidate in Maine backed by Bernie. It didn’t take me long to find out that Graham was the grandson of Warren Platner, a world famous modernist architect, the son of a powerful local lawyer, and that his working class routine was another outfit.
But what led me to look for it was that red flag. I’m not an ‘oysterman’ and I’ve never been to Maine. I can’t spot a real or a fake one by looking. But what I don’t know about oystermen, I more than make up for by knowing leftists. And I know that the more they dress the part, the more fake they are.
People who come out of working class backgrounds and look for a more important job try to ‘dress up’, ‘dressing down’ isn’t working class, it’s an upper class leftist affectation.
I can tell you that because I grew up poor.
People who come from barns want to move to high-rises, but people who grew up in mansions want to move to barns because it feels more ‘authentic’.
Real working class politics isn’t fake dirt. It’s trying to look clean even when dirt is all you have. Fake leftist working class politics is millionaires trying to look just dirty enough for the camera.

Yes, D-Bags always pretend to represent the working class while they get ultra rich off the moneyed interests they colluded with but rats like Platner are even worse because they try to pretend they ARE working class. I never heard of him before now but I’m glad I don’t live in Maine, even though it’s an open carry state and has beautiful beaches and coastlines. Platner couldn’t be worse than Nescum and potential next NYC Mayor, Moron Mamdani, but he’s obviously a deceptive weasel and so would legislate like one.

He’s a ne’er do well who owes everything he’s ever had to Gordon Getty (Gordon Gecko.) He’s never worked a day in his life and never earned anything.
I’m finally retired….with next to nothing….But I had to bust my ass from age 7 to age 56 to get here. I don’t resent the success and wealth of other people, no matter how scummy they are but Newscum has done so much damage to this beautiful state I can’t help but hate him.
Oh well, chicks are still free and the only ones who ask me for money are satisfied with ten bucks – for drugs, obviously. I may be poor but even I can spare ten bucks now and then and I have nice housing until the day I die, and chicks are the only thing that matter anyway.

Nothing specific, because like Daniel I wouldn’t know an oysterman if I tripped over him, but I have known enough Australian fishermen and lobstermen to know what they look like.
Maine is a poor state but has a lot of old money rich assholes. They love it there (in the summer) because it makes them feel like they are royalty surrounded by peasants while also pretending they are rugged and down to earth, unlike the trust funders in New York or LA. Maine had a brief reprieve of glorious sanity with Governor LePage before it reverted straight back to the darkest depths of left-wing idiocy with Janet Mills. Read Lepage’s bio it’s an amazing story.

Nice catch…. Oyster cultivation is sort of a trendy industry here in New England; my town has just approved a new oyster farm for example. I looked at this photo and see monochromatic working gear, eyeglasses and lens color coordinated to match hair and beard, complexion doesn’t look like the sun darkened nor salt-spray wind driven ruddy hue that is typical…And the give away no plaid anywhere.
He is running against Susan Collins part time Republican…Given that choice it has to be Collins again as the best choice.

You’re totally right. He’s posing. He isn’t even looking at the camera or smiling. He’s looking off into the air. I don’t know how many oyster traps he’s going to see in the sky. And the way he’s dressed looks like he got his oyster man costume from Eddie Bauer or J. Crew.

Difficult for those “dressing down” elitists to even identify working class people so abhorrent is their attitude toward those they have continuously deemed beneath them.

This obsession with clothes seems to be related to the Lefty-Islamist connection. These soulless creeps actually seem to be fascinated with `authentic’ Muslim costumes and other paraphernalia. The `cool’ clothing of a lefty-Islamist fascist is more impressive to these evil fools than basic decency dressed up `boring=normal.’
In the 90s the upper-middle class instigated the `casual revolution.’ I thought it was silly but benign, at the time. I was wrong. It was a symptom of something much worse.
