There was a time when Howard Stern insisted he was the King of All Media. Those days are long gone as his show slides away into oblivion. The 71-year-old former shock jock hasn’t been relevant or interesting in a while and much of that is because the tactics he pioneered became commonplace in the age of the podcast.
Stern long ago ran out of ways to shock listeners and his turn toward wokeness killed his old appeal to his army of rabid fans. It’s been a long time since Howard Stern was politically incorrect, edgy or anything except an echo of the media.
But what Stern was, unfortunately, was a a missing link between the old radio shock jocks and the new podcast influencers. We wouldn’t have the social media dystopia we do without Stern’s egotism, destruction of broadcasting standards and obsession with getting the attention of the audience any way he could. Long after Stern lost interest in pretending to be something and someone he wasn’t in order to make money and get attention, the influencer podcasting marketplace is full of sociopaths who eagerly learned from him. Much like Gawker’s fall, Stern’s cultural demise is overstated. Sure the man himself has long since been irrelevant, but he changed our culture. For the worse.
Howard’s end is long overdue, but so is everything he stood for.

” Reports of a cancellation come as Stern’s listeners plummeted from 20 million daily to 125,000.”
Now that’s comedy .
I listened to his show a few times back in the late 1990s and tried to like it. I found nothing funny or interesting about it at all. I have SiriusXM radio on my PC and in my car.
Never once have I bothered to listen to Howard Stern. Old audio replays of George Carlin stand up comedy is better and appealing and timeless!
USAID money ran out.
Worn out Howard Stern – At least I haven’t heard he is a self loathing Jew – but I don’t listen to the dullard to know if he has dissed Israel or not.
I listened to Stern in the early 1990’s when I was driving to Xray school in the morning. I recall a funny incident – but that would be off topic – however it happened while I was listening. That was on some FM station, Stern yammered about satellite media and he would have free reign. Seems boundaries of what you should not say but find ways to say it without saying it is more popular than Stern just letting everything spew. You then limit your audience.
Since my newer vehicles all come with satellite radio, I still don’t listen to Howard Stern – boring – because Howard Stern is boring. I saw a video of Stern in blackface using the n word over and over and supposedly interviewing a brain dead Joe Biden – such BS pandering – when mind blown crooked Joe looking dazed and confused couldn’t answer, Stern keeps blathering about – Watch the video and see this man, Howard Stern, sold his soul —
After making $$$ exploiting his first amendment right to cuss on the radio, Howard Stern became a surly pussy cat in the era of the Democ-rat COVID censorship ploy– marketwatch.com, Sept. 9, 2021: “Howard Stern to anti-vaxxers: “F— their freedom, I want my freedom to live.'” The free speech lion became a free speech pussy.
Like so many of the old rebels from the 60s and 70s.
Once you stop performing for Satan he calls you home, Howard.
I watched him once. He had some dude on who had a fantasy about Carmen Electra. So Howard brought the real Carmen Electra on and made the dude look like a fool 🙂
He was funny back in the 80’s when I would listen to him while stuck in NY traffic on the way to work. But his shtick got old after a while. When he went off public radio, he fell off my radar completely. His decent into woke bullshit was the final nail on the coffin.
