Fresh from his widely reported contretemps with President Donald Trump, Pope Leo XIV traveled to Algeria on Monday, where the pontiff clearly intended to continue in the More-Peaceful-Than-Thou vein of his response to the president. “I will continue,” Leo declared, “to speak out loudly against war, looking to promote peace, promoting dialogue and multilateral relationships among states to find just solutions to problems.“And he did. But some in Algeria were refusing to cooperate.
Early on Monday afternoon, the pope wrote: “Communion between Christians and Muslims takes shape under the mantle of Our Lady of Africa. Here, in #Algeria, the maternal love of Lalla Meryem [Lady Mary] gathers everyone as children, within our rich diversity, in our shared aspiration for dignity, love, justice, and peace. In a world where division and wars sow pain and death, living in unity and peace is a compelling sign. #ApostolicJourney.”
In bringing up how “division and war sow pain and death,” Pope Leo was clearly contrasting his trip to Algeria with President Trump’s war in Iran. While the president of the United States made war upon the Islamic Republic of Iran, the pope was showing by traveling in peace to another Muslim country that there was another way. Christians and Muslims, you see, could celebrate “our rich diversity” instead of lobbing missiles at one another, and live in “unity and peace” instead of mutual antagonism.
And it was true: living in unity and peace is indeed a compelling sign. In Algeria, however, some Muslims were clearly determined that such a sign would not be shown to the world.Morocco World News reported on Monday that there were “two suicide attacks in Blida today,” just as the pope was arriving in Algeria. Blida is a city of about 200,000 people, around 28 miles southwest of Algiers.
Morocco World News noted that according to eyewitnesses,“two individuals were wearing explosive belts and tried to target separate locations,” but that “police officers opened fire on the two attackers before they could reach their targets.” The jihadis “then detonated their explosives.” Two police officers were killed in the first blast; the second “affected a food processing facility in the same province.” There were other deaths: “The casualties and death toll have not yet been disclosed by official media.”
The two jihadis demonstrate the hollowness of the pope’s words. He can celebrate our “rich diversity” all he wants, but he can’t expect that Muslims who read Allah’s exhortations to “kill them wherever you find them” (Qur’an 2:191, 4:89, 4:91, cf. 9:5) and to fight Christians until they “pay the jizya with willing submission and feel themselves subdued” (9:29) will take them to heart.
Leo might respond that a Christian should be ready to love his enemies without expecting that love to be reciprocated, but traditional Christianity has never understood the Christian faith to mandate surrender or suicide, or to forbid self-defense. Pope Leo said back in Dec. 2025 that Christians and Muslims should be “working together” on “dialogue and friendship between Muslims and Christians.” He called upon Christians to be “less afraid” of Islam, and said that Christians and Muslims should be “living together” in “friendship” in Europe. He added: “Perhaps we should be a little less fearful and look for ways to promote authentic dialogue and respect. I know that, in practice, this has not always been the case. I know that fears persist in Europe.”
At the bottom of those fears, the pope intimated, was an ugly xenophobia, “often fueled by people opposed to immigration who seek to exclude those who come from another country, another religion, or another ethnic background.” He said all this as he was returning from a visit to Lebanon, and he invoked that country as an indication of the amity that he said was possible: “I think that one of the great lessons that Lebanon can offer the world is to show a country where Islam and Christianity are present and respected, and where it is possible to live together, to be friends.”
Yet in Lebanon the Christian population is considerably diminished from what it once was. Christians were terrorized from their homes and driven from the country when they weren’t killed outright. And in Algeria, where the pope traveled Monday, there was once a Christian majority, a very long time ago, but it was conquered and Islamized. Sometimes one must face a threat with force, or else be willing to pay the price that comes with surrender. The land where the pope was welcomed Monday shows what happens when no effective resistance can be mounted against Islamic jihadis. The suicide bombings reinforced the lesson. But it doesn’t appear as if Pope Leo XIV was disposed to learn anything.

I’m convinced that Leo is an antipope, as was his immediate predecessor, Francis (not a Catholic, or even a Christian, but a South American Marxist)…something the Church hasn’t had as Her Leader for at least the past 5 or 6 Centuries.
I don’t think that Canon Law, or Tradition, has some equivalent to Impeachment and Removal; but even if it did, such a Remedy would not be likely to succeed, given how many loyal, hard-Left Bishops and Cardinals have been elevated and appointed by antipopes Francis and Leo XIV.

The correct theological and eschatological view is that Christ’s Kingdom has been founded here on Earth (as it is in Heaven) but the earth is still occupied by Satan (and his myriad religions and -isms). The war won’t end until Christ Himself literally returns to rule a literal Israel in a literal Millennial Kingdom.
In the meanwhile, we are indeed Christian soldiers who use the armor of God to fight His battle with him. It’s a message of peace from us, but it’s not going to end peacefully for Satan and his followers.

Changing dates and history is what victors do if it benefits their purpose. “Pope Joan” may or may not be true, but a FOIA request to the Vatican will NOT expose the secrets therein. However, there should be a “cause” for such rumor infused thinking to get started. Sadly pope does apparently read the bible or be!ieve it is inspired word of God. If he did he would know God helped Moses when he asked for help in war. If he repeats his recent comments from Chair of Peter as a Catholic I will accept their infallibility but I believe God will not allow him to mislead the flock in that manner. Christ said that it is better that those who mislead the children be drowned…I hope the pope reforms and becomes consistent with the teachings of past popes who defended Christians when under attack as now in Africa and China rather than bending to God’s enemies.
