Here’s how negotiations with Islamic terrorists in general, and Iran specifically, invariably play out.
1. Negotiators meet with the terrorists. If the terrorists are weak, they agree to deals they have no intention of keeping when they grow stronger. If they sense weakness on the part of the other side, they start demanding preconditions and threatening to walk away.
2. Once the agreement is announced, the terrorists take the agreement hostage, betting that the prestige of the leader of the other side is involved and that he or she will be willing to make more concessions to keep the deal from falling apart.
3. Islamic terrorists never accept the notion of a final agreement. Their goal at every stage is to extract as much as possible while giving as little as possible. They constantly reopen negotiations, unilaterally modify the agreement according to their own interpretation, flagrantly violate it and drag whoever they’re negotiating into an abusive relationship that is much like an Asian or Nigerian ‘pig-butchering’ scam in which people keep paying more and more in the hopes of recovering their sunk cost.
4. In the absolute best case scenario, e.g. Taliban, the Jihadists just lie their way through, sign meaningless papers that they never intend to keep, and then attack. In the worst case scenario, they play endless mind games in which the illusion of the agreement itself becomes the thing that the other side keeps trying to salvage by offering them more and more.
All of this has played out time and again with Iran and other terrorists. I’ve gone into more details in the past in articles like The Gentle Art of Negotiating With Terrorists.
That’s why the first rule of negotiating with Islamic terrorists is don’t. It achieves nothing, The only point of such negotiations is to state firmly and clearly what our intentions are. That is why they are also best conducted with heavy artillery. Terrorists will not end their attacks in response to concessions or negotiations. They will temporarily end them in response to successful attacks or permanently in response to their total destruction. That is how you negotiate with terrorists.
President Trump has done that, but once negotiations were launched, Iran defaulted to the same old game of taking the negotiations and the agreement hostage. This is a test. Fail it and Iran will take charge.

I think the title of your article should be ‘America never keeps deals.’ We would like to believe you but we are reminded of the stack fact that America attacked Iran in the middle of negotiations.

Fortunately, Trump knows every trick in the book and has made up plenty of his own. He left the terms of the ceasefire intentionally vague to force the various parties to show their hands. The Iranians are used to dealing with weak, effeminate and feckless westerners who only carry about extracting a few bucks for themselves and their friends. Remember how the Mullahs were crying that they wanted to negotiate but they were afraid Trump would kill them? By the time this is over they will be as whipped as that commie whore in Venezuela.
President Trump didn’t know the trick that could keep tariffs on imports from raising prices. (Either do Penn & Teller.) President Trump has criticized Fed Chair Powell, the very person he chose for the position, because he won’t lower rates. Anyone who doesn’t understand why Powell should not lower interest rates under the current circumstances should learn some basic economics. Increasing the money supply to lower rates will make the inflation problem worse.
I hope neither the tariffs nor the war against Iran come back to bite the GOP come election time. We’re going to find out. Predictably, we’ll get lame cries of “voter fraud” if the GOP ends up in the minority.

I don’t suppose that anyone in our government ever read anything about Islamic history or doctrine. Hence, the agreement regarding Gaza and now the pursuit of an agreement regarding Iran.

You can’t “Negotiate” with fanatics. Negotiate? What – How much to charge for tolls? How many ships can pass? Do you have the right to “close” it? No, you give fanatics an ULTIMATUM. There is no fundamental difference in Iran’s tariffs on traffic and the US skimming operation on the world’s oil consumption known as the “petrodollar”.
They will use the funds to rebuild their country after the sneak attacks and illegal, aggressive war by the US/Israeli crime syndicate. Hopefully, the US will be forced out of the region after the war. Good riddance.
The “Petrodollar” is only a subset of the “world-dollar” as a medium of international exchange for convenience if nothing else. Fundamentally, and as it should be, it is the USA that plays the tune the rest of the World must dance to or sit out. Or would you prefer the tune be Chinese or Islamic?
I read this morning that the US, & Iran will be meeting in Pakistan and that Iran is setting the agenda and Daniel’s point is true.
Apparently, Trump learned nothing from his fiasco in dealing with Hamas because they are still in Gaza, never completely disarmed as the “deal” mandated and they are actively rearming and recruiting.
Hamas is a proxy for Iran so what about this does he refuse to get or what other agenda is he operating from? I know that the Trump company business has completed deals with Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Conflict of interest?
I don’t know but I would be in confidential conversations with the IDF and their military strategists since they know Iran and the Islamic-Middle Eastern mindset very, very well and they are very strategic in their bombing and sequential plans for inflicting continuous punishments on their critical infrastructures so that they are rapidly gutted (remember Israel doing that until Trump made them stop?).
Overthrowing the Islamist religious structure in Iran is the only way for the Iranian people to be freed from this blood-thirsty regime and for Iran to return to civility in the world.
A question for me remains unanswered. Since the Qatari and Saudi Arabian monarchies are both governed by Wahabbist-Islamic dictates and Iran is the Islamic state sponsor of terror funded by Qatar, is the US strategy simply a grand spectacle to subdue Iran while leaving these barbarians in power with perhaps a less radical group of religious enforcers? With both the US and Israeli militaries I would think this could have been masterfully orchestrated. Now, once again, whether Trump recognizes it or not, Iran has moved themselves into the top-dog position while Trump sits blabbering with his self-triumphant peace initiatives in the Middle East that are causing problems he refuses to address.
He’s too smart to believe he doesn’t understand this. If so, it means he knows what he is doing and he us compromising the Iranian people, Israel and the USA for business deals generated by not only the Trump private company but also through the deals inked with Qatar and Saudi Arabia directly with the USA.
As this goes on, concurrently so is the rapid mobilization of Islamists within our country.

When it comes to understanding the ideology of Islam, it’s a good idea to read what their Quran says about converting infidels, as they like to call those who are not one of them.
