Sheriff Alex Villanueva decided to go to war against gun stores.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva freed 1,700 criminals from county jails and launched an aggressive push to force gun stores to shut down as non-essential.
“We will be closing them, they are not an essential function,” Villanueva insisted. “You have the mixture of people that are not formerly gun owners and you have a lot more people at home and anytime you introduce a firearm in a home… it increases fourfold the chance that someone is gonna get shot.”
There was immediate pushback on this power grab.
“Gun shops, strip clubs, night clubs are nonessential businesses. We are trying to get them to close their doors,” he said. “If they don’t close their doors, they will be cited,” which could mean the loss of a business license.
The department is informing any gun businesses to shut down immediately. To ensure the message is delivered, deputies will talk to owners at any businesses still in operation.
The Trump admin included gun stores on its list of essential businesses. And Villanueva backed off. But his power grab against the LA County Board of Supervisors continues to bear fruit with the Board jettisoning the radical as head of Emergency Operations.
His response is really something.
“Here’s a message for the Board of Supervisors. If the Board of Supervisors votes tomorrow to remove me as a director of emergency operations – actually, eliminate the position of Director of Emergency Operations, this will impact public safety and public health… If you’re asking the public to stay home, cooperate with authorities, the same applies to the Board of Supervisors “
This is what happens when you turn over control over local areas to thugs with titles.
We’re headed for a major crisis with the worst among us using it as an excuse for a power grab.
