There was a time when a college education was worth something. Then college was dumbed down to the level that many of the incoming students need remedial education, GPAs were vastly inflated, and most students at Harvard and Yale began getting A’s
Even.while this was going on, universities became indoctrination factories, fundamentally hostile to males, and incapable of producing quality graduates, but quite capable of charging insane amounts for a semester of classes.
The Left, whose base is now almost entirely college educated, was hoping Americans wouldn’t notice. Oops, they did.

Almost two-thirds of registered voters say that a four-year college degree isn’t worth the cost, according to a new NBC News poll, a dramatic decline over the last decade.
In 2017, U.S. adults surveyed were virtually split on the question — 49% said a degree was worth the cost and 47% said it wasn’t. When CNBC asked the same question in 2013 as part of its All American Economic Survey, 53% said a degree was worth it and 40% said it was not.
Just 33% agree a four-year college degree is “worth the cost because people have a better chance to get a good job and earn more money over their lifetime,” while 63% agree more with the concept that it’s “not worth the cost because people often graduate without specific job skills and with a large amount of debt to pay off.”
The 20-point decline over the last 12 years among those who say a degree is worth it — from 53% in 2013 to 33% now — is reflected across virtually every demographic group. But the shift in sentiment is especially striking among Republicans.
In 2013, 55% of Republicans called a college degree worth it, while 38% said it wasn’t worth it. In the new poll, just 22% of Republicans say the four-year degree is worth it, while 74% say it’s not.

Remarkably, less than half of voters with college degrees see those degrees as worth the cost: 46% now, down from 63% in 2013.
Those without a college degree were about split on the question in 2013. Now, 71% say a four-year degree is not worth the cost, while 26% say it is.
I’m a college graduate and I know a college degree isn’t worth it.
NBC News is focusing on costs because the next step is pushing subsidized ‘free’ college, but that’s how we got here. Shoving everything into the college machine just in time for AI to come along as an extinction event while college debt looks like the subprime mortgage crisis.
College has failed. Or rather it’s been rotted and corrupted into a DEI machine where Marx is more likely to be assigned than any other reading, where students are incapable of reading a novel or answering a basic math question, but know anything is racist.
We don’t need glorified six figure high school diplomas, we need a work ethic, basic education and a culture that works.

College education was worth something when you were ready to enter it academically and then studied something really hard that will help you make a lot of money.
Nothing wrong with making a lot of money, but education should aim at much more than that.
Especially since a plumber can make a lot more money nowadays than a college professor.
It used to be that a Liberal Arts degree and the like taught you how to think.
Not they teach you what to think.
Which means they are no longer fit for purpose.
Spot on. I recently heard someone say the purpose of a thing is what it does. Higher and public education still has purpose, but an evil one.
How do we restore good purpose when a majority cannot agree upon what is good? A determined, united, disciplined minority might be able to do this. A determined, wicked minority got us where we are today. My generation did much to abandon their posts and allow the evil minority to succeed, but the young people coming up now are unwilling to live in the fierce hell we created for them. I believe it is our duty to help them.
I know several people with a liberal arts degree. Two worked for the US post office until they retired, one is a grocery market manager and the other use to be an interstate truck driver. Their liberal arts degree didn’t do them a damn good.
The interstate truck driver, though, made some serious money and now owns his own trucking company. He said that if he could do it all over again he would’ve skipped college and went to school to become a diesel mechanic.
College is not for everyone. The US is the only country in the world that pushes that “you must go to college” screed. Most other “civilized” countries emphasize apprenticeships and trades which are far more useful than a college degree.
It’s not the only one, Australia does it too these days, although it started here much later.
One recent Labor PM stated that the goal was at least 40% of the population with degrees.
With an advanced degree in Gender Studies, you are able to identify 72 different sexes after 4 years of study.
Over $100,000.00 in debt and job prospects as a cashier at Walmart or a barista at a coffee shop. Heck of a deal.
Start working in the trades and make over $100,000.00 after 4 years.
The choice is obvious.
You left out the salient part: Earn an advanced degree in Gender Studies and you can have a career as a professional protester and if you’re lucky, you can have a career as a rental car agency front desk agent or punching holes in bagels and donuts in a bakery. Or you can have a career as a cleaning lady in a Pahrump Nevada Brothel. That’s about all a degree in Gender Studies is good for!
Only about 13% of the American population has the necessary intelligence for a rigorous university education and that will always be the case. Exceptional intelligence is exceptional by definition.
“All things excellent are as difficult as they are rare” ― Baruch Spinoza
Exactly right, THX. It will require civilizational cooperation to recognize and advance these people. A restoration of hierarchy is necessary to avoid civilizational collapse. Reason alone will not be sufficient to recognize or advance these necessary people. Excellence is more than intelligence and reasoning – there must be an external, unchanging moral standard to govern society.
I don’t know where you got the seemingly arbitrary figure of 13%, but patience, discipline and healthy habits are at least as important. Many students are defeated by depression, addiction, insomnia and relationship problems which have nothing to do with intelligence.
Many students are defeated by a lack of work ethic. Surveys of students indicate they put in far less time than the course syllabus indicates they should put in.
I have a different gripe. Where will people learn to be more inclusive—say “birthing parent” not “mother”–if not from some woke professor?!
When some students are now given a score of 50% even if they didn’t do the assignment, we understand why so many young adults think socialism is a good idea.
Destruction, waving preprinted signs, blocking streets, and mindlessly chanting slogans doesn’t require much education, just indoctrination.
Funny how the more government becomes involved in providing something, the the more worthless, unaffordable, and political it becomes, whatever it is.
As if a triumphal DJT wasn’t enough, declining enrollment on “woke” college campuses is more proof that Americans are rejecting their garbage Democ-rat elites. And yet, DEI and the rest of the elite garbage persists. In other words, the parasites continue to devour the host. With the recent election of a Democ-rat Islamist/communist mayor, the parasites have just swallowed New York City, whole.
Trump said he was very worried about the financial solvency of our universities.
His solution?
Bring in 600,000 Chinese foreign students.
If they function as CCP spies……….that’s the price for propping up academia according to Trump.
Collages and Universities have become nothing but leftists indication Centers for Big Brother just let them get along with Athletics
I tried going to college with 3 community colleges. I ended up going to five different trade technical schools and self learning. It must have worked because I retired to a life as an entrepreneur and self made millionaire a couple times over and still accumulating.
Pursuits of higher education colleges provide in science and technology will get the most gifted and the so-so average student a decent career.
Not everyone is suitable for college and if the public education system in the USA and states guided those academic students to academia and the majority of the rest of the students to trade technical careers, we would have a happier more productive society.
There use to be an old term called “gainful employment.” The fact of the matter is, save for a few, most college degrees today do not lead to gainful employment.
What’s infuriating about that is the fact that most, if not all, colleges and universities know this and offer “worthless” degrees anyway to entice students to encumber themselves with debt via government loans. Loan money that gets paid to the colleges and universities who in turn, invest that money and earn dividend and interest income.
Moreover, little know to most people, under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3), colleges and universities are exempted from paying taxes on interest & dividend income.
I don’t know about anyone else but I’d call that a perfectly legal grift. How sweet it is!!
Father & Son. Son Father I have decided I don’t want to go to Collage Father Why Son? Son Because I want to be a Truck Driver and not Anti American Antifa Bolshevik scum sucker. Father THATS MY BOY. A Real Conservative Family
As soon as feminism took over the value of a degree cratered. Really very straightforward.
That’s around the time when all those useless degrees started coming into existence! College officials are equal opportunity exploiters and offering worthless degrees was a new frontier to exploit and reap profits. And the government and aided & abetted it all! Grifting is very lucrative when the government’s involved.
Just look at the size of the endowments of colleges and universities and the speed of their growth after they started expanding the number of degree programs.
What we need to understand about Trump(who I voted for 3 times)………is that he has been captured by the CIA.
The CIA has infiltrated the university system going back to the 1950s.
Harvard and Yale being outstanding examples.
Trump’s concern over the future of the university system is due to the CIA selling Trump their bill of goods.
Trump is also physically afraid of the CIA.
Think about that………..Epstein, the Charlie Kirk massacre and 9-11 all start to make sense.
