[Order Michael Finch’s new book, A Time to Stand: HERE. Prof. Jason Hill calls it “an aesthetic and political tour de force.”]
For the Democrat hard left, the good news is that Zohran Mamdani, a self-described “Democratic socialist” with a long history of what many consider antisemitism and anti-Israel activism, won the Democratic primary for mayor of New York. The bad news for the Democratic left is that he will likely win.
It’s no surprise that President Donald Trump is not popular in New York, where a New York City judge found him liable in a ridiculous business fraud case and where a Manhattan jury convicted him of an equally ridiculous criminal charge of election interference. A recent poll of New York state Jewish, Protestant, Catholic, Hispanic, Black and white voters found Trump’s approval rating underwater with every racial, ethnic and religious group, except one.
According to a late June Siena College poll, with Catholic New York voters, Trump is at 50% disapproval and 49% approval; 79% of blacks disapprove and 19% approve; 67% of Hispanics disapprove and 26% approve; 51% of whites disapprove and 47% approve.
But with New York Jewish voters, 42% disapprove and 57% approve, up from the 46% New York Jewish vote Trump received in the November 2024 presidential election. What’s going on? Yes, socialism is increasingly popular with some Democrats who agree with Mamdani’s zany proposals such as freezing New York City rents and the public ownership of grocery stores. But, the Democrats have an antisemitism problem.
Democratic House members like Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar make incendiary comments about Jews and Israel with little or no pushback from Democratic leaders. New York’s Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez belongs to the pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel Democratic Socialists of America, with a platform that supports the Boycott, Divestment and Sanction movement against Israel.
AOC and Sen. Bernie Sanders, a longtime DSA member who recently held a New York town hall with Mamdani, berate Democratic leaders like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for refusing to officially endorse Mamdani — so far, that is.
Sanders said, “I find it hard to understand how the major Democratic leaders in New York State are not supporting the Democratic candidate. … One might think that if a candidate starting at 2% in the polls, gets 50,000 volunteers, creates enormous excitement, gets young people involved in the political process, gets non-traditional voters to vote, Democratic leaders will be jumping up and down, ‘This is our guy!'”
But Schumer, as far back as his 2014 speech before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, said: “Those who call for boycotts of Israel without calling for boycotts of other neighboring nations whose human rights records are in fact reprehensible are practicing, whether they know it or not, whether they admit it or not, a modern form of what we call anti-Semitism.” Can Schumer, with any shred of credibility, endorse the rabidly pro-BDS Mamdani?
During the campaign, Mamdani refused to denounce the offensive antisemitic slogan “globalize the intifada.” But, days ago, Mamdani did an interview with MSNBC host the Rev. Al Sharpton, never mind Sharpton’s own history of antisemitism. In a reversal, Mamdani told Sharpton he would now “discourage” the term “globalize the intifada.”
A few clarifying follow-up questions would have been helpful:
1. What about the slogan “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”? Would Mamdani also “discourage” that expression?
2. What about Mamdani’s long held support for Boycott, Divestment and Sanction against Israel, a movement Schumer calls “antisemitic”? Does Mamdani still consider BDS ” … a legitimate movement when you are seeking to find compliance with international law …”?
3. In the interview, Mamdani characterized Israel as engaging in the occupation of “Palestinian land.” But the United States State Department does not recognize “Palestine” as an independent state. Does Mamdani?
4. Does Mamdani still accuse Israel of committing “genocide” in Gaza?
5. Does Mamdani still call Israel an “apartheid” state?
6. Does Mamdani believe Israel has a right to exist — as a Jewish state?
7. Does Mamdani consider Hamas, an organization calling for the destruction of Israel, a “Foreign Terrorist Organization,” as has the U.S. State Department since 1997?
8. Has Mamdani ever called on Hamas release all the Oct. 7 hostages?
Finally, AOC, Bernie Sanders and Zohran Mamdani walk into a bar and shout, “Hey, drinks are on you!” That’s OK. A lot of New Yorkers are not laughing either.

The Dem-O-Rats are just getting closer to the edge of the bottomless Pit everyday
Sadly, Mamdani’s relection is a near certainty. I think Jews and any other sane and productive members of society should relocate elsewhere. So should Wall Street, since the Jew hating Marxist-Islamist surely doesn’t want capitalistic institutions in his city. I think too that any Jews considering voting for Mamdani (who did better among younger voters and affluent whites than blacks or Latinos) should realize how many of their “progressive” neighbors have a virulent hatred of them. If New York elects Mamdani it is choosing assisted suicide- for itself.
ESCAPE FROM NY COMES TO MIND.
Personally I can’t wait for MamiDammi to take the reigns of that dying city. This guy is such a mental and political mess it’s going to be a laugh riot to watch the Democrat Charlie Kirk Murdering Left have to start making excuses for him.
It looks like ’26 will be pretty good for Conservatives….maybe pick up a few seats, even in some blue states. Let’s hear it for redistricting.
Yes, the fools in NYC are going to get socialism good and hard. Have fun.
I love Larry Elder but I think the bigger problem are the Jew hating jews.
Jews are those who follow Judaism and jews are those that use it against those who criticize them for their insanity.
The same people who use the US Constitution against the country.
More easily classified as Marxists.
Since there are only 7 million Americans with the religion of Jewish you won’t find many Jews who hate Jews. 1 million live in NYC.
Those responsible for ‘The Dumbing Down of America’ have succeeded beyond their wildest expectations.
It’s a more general problem of the West, maybe especially the Anglo West. British historian Andrew Roberts in a recent Tikvah interview cited British polling that showed many young British adults believe Churchill was a fictional character, and that the American Revolution was led by *Denzel* Washington. I doubt American students would do much better.
New York, like California, is a bastion of both the elitist Marxists and the poor-working man who understands zip about the seductive nature of Democratic Socialism as a gateway into communism.
Apparently, like Californians, they actually believe that the commandeering of all money into the illustrious coffers of the state or city government will alleviate all problems and all will be equal.
Ask anyone who has lived in a communist country what the endgame is and they will tell you. But leftist arrogance knows no boundaries and now the leftist linkage with the totalitarian ethos of Islam is a partnership of malevolence that once implemented will destroy individual freedom, institute sharia law, vilify Jews ( they don’t give a rats a$$ if you’re secular) and begin the slow boil to Islamist dictates including them building the Cordoba Mosque next to ground zero!! (Please note that wherever Islam has advanced, regardless of for how long, they build a mosque as verification of having advanced Islamic influence and presence often taking over churches or synagogues and building mosques there.)
Only self-centered New Yorkers would allow such an abomination after 9/11, yet here we are and these supposedly, tough-talking New Yorkers are heading for a destructive humiliation of themselves they have yet to identify.
BTW, women in New York, please understand with the massive number of criminals whom Mamdani will release back into the public sphere, you will be their choice targets and Islam doesn’t care one iota if non-Muslim women are raped and you’re about to get exactly what you’re going to vote for. And all I have to say is so long New York!!
Paterson NJ has fallen to Islam. Once there it is like trying to remove a cockroach infestation.
They’ll deserve the Communist Islamist the ‘good people’ of NYC vote into office. They love their AOC, and he’s another 2-steps to the Left plus he an Islamist Jew-hater. New Yorkers, even the Jews, sort of appreciate that for some odd reason.
this country should force NYC to become a district like Washington D.C is they upstate NY and western NY could live without being dominated by the city. that is really unfair, sorta like its unfair for eastern parts of Cali to be controlled by so cal
It shouldn’t really be of a surprise that the soon to be mayor of New York City Zohran Mamdani wants the police to top responding to crimes committed by Muslims, the reader may be sure that most of those Muslim’s crimes would criminals’ malicious actions committed against the Jewish people of NYC.
Likewise, Mamdani had earlier said that “Israel should not exist.”
In addition, Mamdani is member of a mosque that called for the annihilation of the Jewish State of Israel. After all, Islam is very ant-Jewish and therefore anti- Israel.
Mamdani is very anti-Jewish and likewise anti- Israel So much so that before he had decided to run for mayor he had declared that he wanted to “Globalize the Intifada “ To this very day he has not denounced or retracted that statement.
The former US President, William Howard Taft had, wisely, declared in a speech “Antisemitism is a noxious weed that should be cur out. It has no place in America.”
Therefore, that dangerous anti- Jewish Muslim, Mamdani, is, in essence, therefore very un-American.
As the former US President, Theodore Roosevelt, had well-spoken when he declared in a speech “There can be no fifty-fifty Americanism in this country. There is only room here for only hundred percent Americanism, only for those who are Americans and nothing else.”
Islam is only 1445 years old. 1445 years ago the problems started. In 1000 BC King David established the country of Israel with Jerusalem as its capital. In 240 BC Rome conquered Israel and named the area Palestina. So the Jews living in the area are the real Palestinians So 820 years before Islam there were Palestinian Jews.
Before Zohran Mamdani had decided to run for the office of Mayor of NYC ,he had declared the one of his goals for Islam is to “Globalize the Intifada,” That’s one of his reason why he refuses to condemn or denounce worldwide, international , Muslim terrorism. Mamdani, would not ,naturally, want to have the Muslims of the city who voted for him to become digested with him.
Related to this subject is one concept that many Americans just don’t understand that term used, which is “political Islam.” That term is nonsensical and redundant as well as unknown in the Islamic world.
First, that term being nonsensical one devout Muslim who, truly, proclaimed “Islam is Islam.”
Second. as for that term being redundant, has been well explained by none other Ayatollah Khomeini who declared” All Islam is politics.” [1]

Mamdani is a disgrace to NYC and America. If Mamdani is elected my wife and I are considering moving out of NYC. He is the embodiment of the red-green alliance and all the horrible motives and policies that have been eschewed by Robert Spencer, Raymon Ibrahim, Annie Cyrus, Jamie Glazov, Daniel Greenfield, Hugh Fitzgerald, Mark Tapson, Victor David Hansen, Christine Williams, and in fact all contributors to Frontpagemag.com for years and years. Of course, David Horowitz also would totally reject Mamdani and all he stands for. If a city could or would elect him, that city is no longer part of the USA. It would have broken with every value of Judeo-Christian decency and freedom and democratic (small D) values that are foundational in this country.e should never have been allowed or certified as a citizen of the USA. He and his whole stinking family are in my opinion Ugandan, Islamist, and Communist to the core.
