There was an odd kind of ignorance about Zohran Mamdani’s plans for New York on the part of some conservatives and moderates. They assumed (and still do) that he would adapt his positions to the political realities. Nope.
This is the standard playbook.
Mamdani is filling every office he can with radicals on a mission to advance specific positions. Now he’s pivoting to the predictable Step 2 of announcing that he can’t fulfill the wild promises that he never intended to keep without tax hikes.
His DSA allies are already preparing a protest campaign to demand tax hikes on the ‘rich’. Some of the same clueless people will dismiss this as empty posturing. Nope. This refocuses attention on class warfare and turns the whole state government into a battleground. And that was always the endgame. The ‘free buses and grocery stores’, like Lenin’s ‘Bread, land and peace’ was always a bait and switch to radicalize the public. The point wasn’t to deliver free stuff, but to promise the moon and then try to convince those who voted for him that the reason they can’t have nice things is because of capitalism.
This is Marxism 101. And it’s just beginning to roll out.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani is amping up pressure on Governor Kathy Hochul to hike taxes for the richest residents and corporations, asking the state to send billions more in aid to New York City as he faces mounting budget holes. Mamdani, the newly-sworn in democratic socialist, is arguing additional money from the state is necessary because the city faces a fiscal “crisis” created by his predecessor Eric Adams
This by the way is also Marxism 101. Incoming socialists always complain that they were left with a fiscal crisis by the previous administration. The USSR would go on blaming the ‘legacy of the Czarist regime’ well into the 1960s.
“We must raise taxes on the wealthiest few in New York City so that we can invest in the many,” Mamdani said.
“The time has come to tax the richest New Yorkers and most profitable corporations,” he said.
“What we are going to do is exhaust every option to make it clear that the time has come to reset the relationship between the city, its wealthiest residents, its most profitable corporations and with Albany.”
Mamdani also said he is open to the possibility of a wealth tax, similar to the one proposed in California, that would levy a one-time 5% tax on billionaires, if it qualifies for the ballot and is approved by voters this year.
The ‘free stuff’ isn’t coming. The class warfare is. And the larger aim is radicalization and revolution. Everything is going to be a fight with the same tiresome 99% and 1% rhetoric. Nothing will ever be achieved except the dismantling of New York City.
There will be protest rallies, riots and lots of angry rhetoric and Mamdani will explain that he broke all his promises because of all the capitalists who don’t want an equal society. Overthrow the capitalists and you’ll get your free buses and bread lines.

Congressman Goldman has a billion dollar trust fund. Lets see Mamdani go after that rich capitalist.
How about Hakeem Jeffreys, he pays $213 dollars a year FOR property taxes on his million dollar apartment in NYC.
I am sure goldman has more tax lawyers than you can shake a stick at. how about his wife’s income/assets?

Many people love and want big government to care for them.
But they always want someone else to pay … that’s why it doesn’t work, and never will! There’s no ‘free’ anything!!!
But in the last 100+ years we have been paying and the government keeps giving. I’m so fed up with this whole corrupt system of distributing my wealth to whoever.
Mamdani has a ton of money available and will have few problems. He doesn’t represent all of NY city, just the ones who are his supporters. Only the people in his power structure will get paid, so the poor will end up with more, teachers, city employees a blank check. If he needs law enforcement to stay in power, he will bribe them when necessary, at least the high officials. The North Korea model has been a mainstay of liberal politics for a long time and as old as human history. Kim, an uglier sociopath and more brutal than currently usual for liberal dictators, figured out he really only needs the military to stay in power, the rest can starve. Mamdani will figure out something similar.
Mamdani has a big cushion even if he fails to reward the people he will have to pay with a larger payout. They only care whether they get paid, not the general well being. it’s a matter of who they think will give them the biggest slice of the pie. Nothing else, just envy. It will be impossible to convince them that anyone else will give them more than Mamdani or that they should consider if they get less to hold him responsible.
Enemies of America go into politics like pedophiles go into elementary school teaching. These politicians are not the old school self-serving politicians who entered politics to make a living by putting their hands in other people’s pockets. No. These politicians want the power and opportunity to destroy the sacrosanct separation between public and private. Their purpose is to erase by psychological manipulation, by simply promoting jealousy and phony guilt, the distinction between what’s public and what is private.
Politics should only function in the public domain:
Safety
Food Shelter Clothing
Clean air Clean land Clean water
Reading Writing and Arithmetic Skills
Politics should never function in the private domain:
Thinking as an individual for oneself

Dems’ support for such nonsense reminds me of the SNL episode when Steve Martin did bloodletting. Taking one pint didn’t cure the patient so just take more pints. “There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch.” That there are so many people who cannot grasp this is an indictment of our government-dominated education system.

At the minimum, tariffs should be at least equal to the burden government puts on US business. From taxes like FICA to minimum wage to other compliance costs.
I agree with the credit card cap and would add overdraft fees, etc. If you think the rates and fees are too much, take your business elsewhere.
Me thinks Al went to said ‘government dominated’ schools. Please explain what caps on credit card rates have to do with people desperate for credit….. nothing. Then there’s the tariffs. I don’t recall anyone saying the seller was absorbing the tariff expense. I do recall hearing repeatedly, that tariffs are a tax passed along to the consumer. My question is when the tariffs were announced 96 countries lined up …. to pay my taxes?

So yes, many of the wealthy will leave. The ones remaining will be dim supporters with “special tax exemptions”, further adding to the burden of everyone else. Tax Wall Street 10% each day including weekends. Want to see a museum? $50 entry fee. Maybe it’s that high already, I don’t know. $20 to enter the park. There is already a bridge charge to enter the city.
And since this will crater, fed money (yours and mine) will be used to bail that mess out. Dang nyc people, pay attention for once. We are beyond voting this out.
