Mamdani is polling well ahead in New York City’s mayoral election, but who is actually supporting him?
The Quinnipiac poll shows Mamdani doing horribly among Jews. Big surprise.
Cuomo gets 60% of the Jewish vote, Sliwa is at 12%, and Mamdani is at 16%. Yes, some will protest that 16% is too high, but keep in mind that a bunch of the people being described as ‘Jewish’ are leftists with some possible Jewish ancestry. We’re living in a world where AOC at one point claimed to have Jewish ancestry.
84% of Jewish voters are not going to back Mamdani. Despite that some people with the usual agendas will insist that Jews are supporting Mamdani.
Notably though, Mamdani performs poorly with every (or almost every) religious group.
He’s got the backing of only 36% of Protestants and 28% of Catholics. That’s notable in a race where supposedly 48% of black voters are backing ‘fellow African-American’ Zohran Mamdani and 43% of Hispanics support him too.
So who are those black and Hispanic voters? Very few of them are religious.
But there is one group that Mamdani is doing well with. Not Jews or Christians but ‘Others’. Factor in the Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims and near total Muslim support and you could very well end up with 50%.

If a miracle by fervent prayers of New Yorkers and Americans and the world that Curtis Sliwa wins NYC mayor as the one who truly loves and is dedicated to NYC, tourism to NYC will have waiting lists that I will be on!

Many Buddhists are far-left environmentalist types, and many Indians are hard leftists. Because of these associations they sometimes pick up antisemitism. I have witnessed colleagues follow that pattern.

After the Jews were expelled from Spain in the 1500s or so, a lot immigrated to the New World, so it is possible AOC has some of that ancestry.
Good historical point about the Jews expelled from Spain in the 15th century. A friend’s family were Sephardic Jews expelled from Spain who settled on the island of Rhodes and lived there until WW2. His parents were Holocaust survivors and ended up in Canada where he and his brother were born. At home, his family spoke Hebrew and Ladino, which is a Spanish variant spoken by Jews originally from Spain.
As for AOC being distantly related to the Ladino Sephardic disapora, it’s possible. But it’s much more likely that AOC only made the claim because she needed NYC Jewish votes at the time. She could just as easily be related to conquistador Cortez which would make AOC Aztec “genocide” adjacent so in the eyes of woke that would make her a fascist. Whatever her actual background, AOC’s a complete scumbag, vote whore and imbecile. Why are so many “women of colour” politicians and celebrities who make a career of spewing hatred of whites always married to rich white men?

Irrelevant. Jewish law which Orthodox and Conservative hold with defines a Jew as the child of a Jewish mother or a convert. Reform Judaism, together with Reconstructionism and Jewish renewal, recognize patrilineal descent contioned on the person identifying as a Jew, having had a Jewish upbringing, and is active in a synagogue or Jewish community organization. Not even the Soviets or Nazis cared if you had a distant Jewish ancestor, somewhere.
