[Order Michael Finch’s new book, A Time to Stand: HERE. Prof. Jason Hill calls it “an aesthetic and political tour de force.”]
One thing that can be said that’s favorable about Zohran Mamdani, the avowed socialist who is almost certain to be the next mayor of New York City: he loves his parents. That fact is, however, not as heartwarming as it might be under different circumstances.
The New York Post revealed Sunday that “Hamas-backing Qatar has bankrolled film and stage projects by socialist Zohran Mamdani’s Israel-bashing movie-director mom — and one of its royals is now pushing her son’s mayoral bid.”
Now, Zohran Mamdani is his own man, and what his mother has done has nothing whatsoever to do with his mayoral bid, right? Nor does it shed any light on his own views, right? Sure. After all, the candidate’s father, Mahmood Mamdani, a Marxist professor at Columbia University, said back in June that “we hadn’t bargained for being parents of a prospective mayor,” and appeared anxious to downplay any idea that he or Zohran’s mother, Mira Nair, had influenced young Zohran unduly: “He’s his own person. Now, of course what we do as his parents is part of the environment in which he grew up, and he couldn’t help but engage with it. That doesn’t mean anything is reflected back on us.”
Zohran’s mom, however, took a sharply different view, saying: “I don’t agree! Of course the world we live in, and what we write and film and think about, is the world that Zohran has very much absorbed.”
Of course he did. And that world seems to have been to a large extent funded by Qatar, the Muslim Brotherhood-supporting emirate from which Hamas top dogs watched the Oct. 7 jihad massacres, and got on their knees to thank Allah for allowing them to murder a large number of Jews. The Post noted that “Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, sister to the ruling emir, and the state-funded cultural institutions she controls, have supported Mira Nair and her creative projects since at least 2009, even extending a personal invitation to participate in the cultural program the country organized as part of the festivities around hosting the 2022 World Cup.”
The links between Mira Nair and rich Qataris go back at least to 2009, when Nair’s movie Amelia “opened the first-ever Doha Tribeca Film Festival in the Gulf regime’s capital.” This funding seems to have focused particularly on whitewashing Islamic jihad violence and shifting the blame for it to America, as in Nair’s 2012 movie The Reluctant Fundamentalist, which portrays a Pakistani Muslim turning to jihad after American officials are unkind to him. The Doha Film Institute forked over a cool $15 million for that one, which covered its entire budget.
As its support for Hamas and sheltering of Hamas leaders indicates, Qatar also hates Israel, and that’s fine by Mira Nair. In July 2013, the summer before young Zohran co-founded his college’s chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine, a far-left, virulently anti-Israel organization, his mother was invited to be the guest of honor at the Haifa International Film Festival to highlight The Reluctant Fundamentalist.
Haifa International Film Festival officials were almost certainly leftists who shared the left’s unwavering penchant for embracing any criticism, any denigration, any dismissal of the dominant and mainstream culture. Mira Nair, however, was not interested in participating in any celebration of her film in Israel. In a series of tweets, she announced: “I will not be going to Israel at this time. I will go to Israel when the walls come down. I will go to Israel when occupation is gone. I will go to Israel when the state does not privilege one religion over another. I will go to Israel when Apartheid is over. I stand w/ Palestine for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) & the larger Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) Mov’t.”
This is not to say that Nair boycotted the Haifa International Film Festival at Qatar’s behest, but just that in Mira Nair, rich Qataris found a person who was entirely in sync with their world view. And now Zohran Mamdani, who has said repeatedly that he was motivated to enter politics because of his support for the forces arrayed against Israel, is about to carry his mother’s perspective into Gracie Mansion. New York City will never be the same.

Liberals have ruined New York just like they do all the time in other Cities around the world like London and Paris
New York is no different. “Progressives” and liberals destroy everything they touch, pretty much!
If Newyorkers vote for Madmani ( Mamdani) then they deserve what’s coming to them..
Call someone in Team Trump, please.
Or someone who knows someone up there. I mean it. Somehow – have meetings.
The US must learn! I´m tired of saying it: See to Europe. We are torn to pieces.
And there is only one group makes the big mess: muslims.
With the blessing of our politicians who bow down to UN and EU, and not to their own people.
And msm, of course.
The death cult called islam must be stopped. By laws and by prayer (it’s a spiritual battle).
There seem to be no limits of behaviour in islam regarding towards non-muslims.
Everything is justified with “the cause” (seems familiar?).
Or – much violence/murders done by muslims are either explained by “mental illness” – or they are not real muslims.
The ignorance by ordinary people and elites here is enormous.
Laws have to be changed.
So many were made when the West was the West, and in a time when Israel’s God was a cornerstone, and conscience was normal and widespread.
Nothing will make the supporters of Zohan Mamdani stop and think . Whatever might be further exposed about him , regardless of how terrible it might be, Mandani’s admires and follower will still blindly mindlessly and unquestionably support and vole for him.
They deliberately have their political / religious blinders on and refuse to take them off. They chose to be intentionally ignorant .
Can I correct your premise, which you state, “The avowed socialist who is almost certain to be the next mayor of New York City.” Mamdani was selected via a low voter turnout in NYC’s Democratic primary. Although AI search engines say my statement is incorrect because the NYC’s Democratic primary had a higher turnout than past ones. That’s irrelevant, the over all voter ratio matters. For example, in a city of 1 million people if the Democratic primary turnout was 100,000 voters then that would be 10% of population. But in this city’s last Democratic primary, if the population of the city was 850,000 and 93,500 people voted, that would be 11% of the population of the city. In absolute numbers, one could argue that the voter turnout in the city’s Democratic primary increased but in relative terms to the population of the city, the voter turnout shrank.
When I challenged AI search engines (I used 2 different ones), they conceded the point to me that in terms of relative numbers versus absolute numbers, I was correct about the low voter turnout. Lastly, ranked choice voting actually skews the winning candidate’s popularity versus a first-past-the-post election decision. Ranked choice voting continues to pass off the unpopular candidates votes onto the slightly more popular candidates, until there’s only one winner. The winner in ranked choice voting ends up getting undeserved and unearned votes from voters that placed the final winning candidate as their second or third choice. Which means Mamdani’s actual relative popularity from the first round of voting was not overwhelming enough to declare him the winner. So come the NYC’s mayoral election because this too is ranked choice, Mamdani is not a shoo-in.
Even among Democrat voters, they might place Mamdani very low on their ranked choice come the NYC’s mayoral election in order to guarantee someone else will win the election other than Mamdani. The thing is even among people who voted in the NYC Democratic Party’s primary, they might have been shocked that even though they ranked Mamdani as their second choice, he still won! As a result, such voters may want to ensure Mamdani doesn’t get their vote this time by ranking him as their last candidate. Therefore, you cannot state Mamdani is certain to win the NYC’s mayoral election without knowing the electorates’ motivations when it comes to ranked choice voting.
Good day! I could have sworn I’ve been to this site before but
after reading through some of the post I realized
it’s new to me. Anyhow, I’m definitely delighted
I found it and I’ll be bookmarking and checking backk frequently!

That Zohran Mamdani sure is a beguiling speaker, and a handsome devil. Many politically correct women will surely be taken in by his deception
Mamdani’s speeches he sound very convincing to uninformed, his false and empty promises along lying words will sway man people to vote for him.
Therefore Mamdani might soon to be the next mayor New York City, he is obviously part of the insidiousness subversive movement, which is known as the “Red /Green Alliance.”
Mamdani being part of that Marxist/Islamic alliance upon entering of office of Mayor is a recipe for a future disaster for NYC.
The result of such folly of voting for him will be tragic.
Mamadamy’s “a handsome devil”? Surely, you’re being sarcastic. Mamawhammy resembles a muslim Barney Rubble. And the pockmarked skin on his face looks like the surface of a pyroclastic flow erupting from a rotting volcano. But you’re right about politically correct women going for him. Since all of them are parched dry-gulch spinsters, a brown man whose face looks like the reddened ass of a male hamadryas baboon would definitely be their ultimate leftwing non-white baby-boo.
Mondani’s mother is bothered that Israel is predominately Jewish state, but she is not bothered by all those predominately, or exclusively, Muslim states, like Qatar, whose money she takes. What a Jew-hating hypocrite.
More than likely, New York will see an exodus that is unlike anything this country has seen. In particular, it seems to me that it will and should lose its crown as the financial capital of the world. Instead, it will be the crown jewel of the Muslim world, Based on what I have seen and know from my tenure as a Naval Intelligence Officer, going to hell on earth will become a reality in New York City. Plan on seeing the National Guard on every corner.
I figured that he was a momma’s boy from the start. He has no clue how the rest of the world lives. His friends from Qatar have been bolstering his candidacy through his momma. His ideology based on Karl Marx is the influence of his father. These systems need to be exposed.
But we should be thankful because we have a blessing in disguise. If he is elected, all of the politicians and liberal white women who promote him will fall with him. His mayoral term will end with a puff. If he is elected the pendulum will swing as far to the left as it ever has, and people will see the abject failure of his ideology. Marxism and Islam have been the rotting fish in the room for a long time. They both are a menace to society but somehow seem to attract the psychopaths among us. Let their names and their support for this vile candidate rise to the top and expose them for what they are. Instead of complaining, get out the popcorn and enjoy the end of all of them.
When this ideology starts to disrupt the money supply to the New Yorkers it will hit the fan.
