Mass deportations of illegal aliens are a good thing. They’re vital and necessary. But the people selling them as economic relief are lying. In the long term, mass deportations will improve the economic situation, but in the short term, it’ll raise prices. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it, but lying about the effects is a big mistake.
Twitter trends have pushed the idea that we don’t need more houses, we can just create housing availability and lower housing costs through mass deportations.
It doesn’t work that way.
There are only a few million illegal aliens who are homeowners (the correct number should be zero, but that’s another story) and their homes tend to be in places that no one else really wants to live.
Housing markets are local. Putting thousands of homes in a slum in Texas or LA on the market isn’t going to do anything to help lower costs nationwide.
Those homes also tend to be substandard, lack basic repairs and the most likely renters and buyers for them will be other Latin Americans with or without citizenship.
In other words, the net effect of mass deportations on the housing market will be to attract more immigrants and migrants from Latin America.

Truth be told, they usually rent, then bring in a lot of others into the house.
When we had a program (maybe under Clinton) that made it easy for them to buy homes, they bought a lot of them, then later defaulted on the loans.
yes, very correct, which means those houses are dumps in which illegals rent to illegal workers
a dozen men in a 600 sq ft house is not a place you want to go without biohzard gear
My landlord back in Omahell rented out my next door unit to some wetters, After they cleared out and he went into the unit he said he would never rent to people like that again. Hell, they used to piss off the front porch right onto the lawn. Who knows what they did inside?
I’ve been to Mexico many times, for some reason. I advise against the visit. Those people aren’t normal.
In past decades, when people had common sense, builders built houses to fit the family size. A young new family could buy a small, one bedroom, or two bedroom house of about 800 to 1000 square feet and that was their “starter home”. But now people want their starter home to be a 3500 sq ft luxury home.
Builders now know that the bigger the house, the more profit. So builders don’t want to build 900 sq ft houses.
One way to beat the prices is buy a house that needs a renovation. Two years ago ( age 64) I bought a 1950 sq ft house in a small town in Kansas that needed a total renovation. I paid $29,000 for it and that was too much. I could have gotten it for $20,000 if I had just held out longer.
“There are only a few million illegal aliens who are homeowners (the correct number should be zero, but that’s another story) and their homes tend to be in places that no one else really wants to live.”
What happened to “I grew up poor”, Greenfield? Did you grow up in a place nobody wanted to live?
yes
So did I. The shittiest house on our otherwise O.K. block. Every rime except one and naturally, we moved out of that one. Leave it to my former step dad to strike out every time.
It always pissed off our snooty neighbors that my brother and me were the best looking ones on the block.
So maybe you two should have gotten deported.
I live in a town that like some similar towns close by, has a hog processing plant. A significant percent of the employees, most of who are Mexican or Mexican-American, live locally. If they were deported, there certainly would be more housing available for others. However, since those employees spend money, their spending would disappear from the local economy.
Anyone who mistakenly thinks there are a “fixed number of jobs” needs to learn some basic economics.
We could get Americans to do the jobs at the hog plant. Just offer much more than the $22 an hour currently being paid. Of course, pork prices will increase but that’s unimportant…..to vegans. For the rest of us, the higher prices mean our income doesn’t go as far.
I don’t need the extra income. Fuck it.
Time to recalibrate the Cluelessometer! Trump recently said “all prices are down.” That would be hilarious if it were not indicative of incredible denial of easily observable facts. Many people obviously do need the extra income.
Extra income would allow people to do such things as be more able to afford making court-ordered support payments.
How painful are increased prices? President Trump thinks he can have government issue $2,000 checks and that’ll make things well.
Commence with the evasion.
Wrong.
Sounds like a city boy perspective.
Low cost housing around the country in every county is sucked up by illegals. Then the fake refugees (illegals with Deep state protection) get regular housing with vouchers.
Clear out illegals, and more people can afford something that doesn’t drain every penny of their disposable income. As if anyone has disposable income anymore.
I say stop these investment companies from buying up blocks of vacant housing . turning them around and renting them for exorbant prices . Maybe that’s why theirs five or more migrants making min wage all living together trying to pay the rent.
Reduce investment? I thought President Trump wanted more investment.
Why would they buy them to rent them out if it is not profitable?
“Exorbant prices? Are exorbitant prices an incentive to increase supply? What does an increase in supply do to prices?
Kings, presidents, emperors, dictators have imposed price controls for over 4,000 years with the same, predictable, demonstrable unintended consequences.
How illegals get the housing results from a whole chain of complicity that render as unenforceable laws that are meant to protect citizens and neighbourhoods, and ensure some quality of life,
A thief needs a fence, an illegal needs a willing landlord, a spineless but opportunistic moron politician needs votes. Maybe landlords should have to live in the property they rent out. Maybe landlords lose ownership if they rent to illegals. Maybe there should be a national registry of individuals supporting illegal immigration who will take into their own homes the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free, like in the olden days, when it was required that the immigrant have a sponsor to provide residence before being allowed to enter America.
Why encourage greed, dishonesty, erase human dignity, make a man an animal?
Ahhh
But that is the point, isn’t it?
