Three years ago, Paul Kessler, a 69-year-old Jewish man, was assaulted and killed by a Muslim man at a pro-Israel rally in Ventura County.
At every step, the authorities refused to do anything, including recording evidence and interviewing witnesses. Organizing, especially online, and investigative reporting by people like Red State’s Jennifer Van Laar, who has the latest updates on the case.
Dragging their feet, they reluctantly brought charges against the killer who now looks set to walk away with probation.
The district attorney’s office in Ventura County, in the Los Angeles area, is displeased with what it said is a superior court’s indication that Loay Abdel Fattah Alnaji will get off with a light sentence after pleading guilty, on Tuesday, to charges related to the death of a 69-year-old Jewish man.
“A prison sentence could be two, three or four years under California law in this case,” Tom Dunlevy, supervising senior deputy district attorney for the county, told JNS. “Our office’s objection is to the court’s offer of probation, as we believe this case warrants a prison sentence.”
Henry Stern, a Democratic state senator in California, stated that the trial update is “disappointing.”
“You wonder if this hadn’t been a Jewish victim, who was killed by a Palestinian activist for supporting Israel, if the judge would’ve been so lenient,” he wrote.
Van Laar’s reporting suggests that there was an attempt to cover up what was going on at the hearing.
According to the killer’s review, the judge “said he’d determined that Kessler’s death occurred when ‘two old guys had a dispute and an accident happened.’”
“It’s unclear when those meetings took place and whether or not the District Attorney’s office was involved; there are no docket entries reflecting any meetings…. By reviewing the procedural history of the case, it’s clear that Malan didn’t want any members of the press in the courtroom on Tuesday morning, making it impossible for the public to know exactly what happened in a timely manner… there was no notice given to the public – or even to one eyewitness, who only learned that the plea had been entered when we contacted him for comment.
We all know how this would have played out if a Klansman had hit a black man with a megaphone at a rally. And we all know how the same system that only arrested Jews after the Adas Torah synagogue riot and the UCLA Hamas campus riots was going to play this. People have been arrested and gone to prison for just yelling at a Muslim.
This is where federal civil rights charges come in.
I wonder if this Jewish man was a Democrat voter (75% of Jews are) or donor. If so I have no sympathy.
Probably a big fan of immigration, still you have to admit he stood up in this situation, hopefully he was not some hypocrite.

I had a friend named Kessler who played on the softball team I used to play on. I hate to see something so against and contrary to America’s values.
