Gov. Gavin Newsom, a rich kid from an intersection of two powerful dynasties, the Getty family and the Brown family, struggled hard to build a ‘hard-luck’ resume to make the wine country tycoon seem relatable.
After trying to get someone, anyone, to buy into the idea that the son of the Getty bagman who went to an elite school was actually a poor kid, Newsom decided to claim that he struggled because of his dyslexia.
The Newsom ‘dyslexia’ narrative went viral in the worst possible way when he responded to Sen. Ted Cruz calling him historically illiterate by accusing Cruz of bigotry.
“Ted Cruz calling a dyslexic person illiterate is a new low, even for him,” Newsom tweeted idiotically.
Does Newsom even know what ‘dyslexia’ is? It’s a valid question especially considering how it shows up in Newsom’s new memoir where he uses it as a get out of studying card in college.
I found an apartment closer to campus and tried to wrap my brain around a statistics class that stood between me and graduation. I failed it once and then failed it again. Finally I made an appointment with my adviser. Stats aren’t about numbers, I told him. If it were about numbers, I’d have sailed through it. The concepts that underlie it, all these relational things going on, just scramble my brain. “Are you dyslexic?” he asked. “Yes.” “Well, why didn’t you tell me that?” A college education at a Jesuit school had apparently progressed to the point that dyslexia was now part of the lexicon of disabilities that merited leeway. What was the basis for Newsom’s claim that he had dyslexia? It’s one of those family stories.
According to his story, he was diagnosed at age five but did not learn of it until years later, when he discovered documents among his mother’s belongings that included the word “dyslexia.” However, it would have been unusual for a 5 year old to receive a formal dyslexia diagnosis in 1972. While some researchers used the term at that time, systematic screening programs didn’t exist and early childhood diagnosis was uncommon. Children with reading difficulties were not identified until deficits became apparent in later grades, and then, they were typically described as having a reading delay rather than labeled “dyslexic.” Newsom has said that he rediscovered these childhood records in recent years, after his parents died
Newsom describes his dyslexia as “undiagnosed” and then claims he was diagnosed at five years old.
Its actual utility seems to be to explain his poor grades, lack of focus and anything stupid that leaves his mouth. Much like Biden’s stutter, it’s supposed to make anyone who notices that he spouts lies and nonsense seem like a bigot, instead of a political critic. It’s pathetic that a powerful and wealthy politician is desperately trying to hide behind victimhood.

A side note here, during the 1970’s at UC Davis, the statistics class was one of the easiest classes to get an A in. It was a lower division class, and the professor taught it in a way that everybody could understand – on the last day of class, the students gave this professor a standing ovation – a classroom with about 300 students. So, the point here, if Newscum couldn’t pass a statistics class, we now know for sure that we have a dem with a very low IQ.

Most of them barely graduated from high school or not at all. Many suffer from dyslexia and ADHD and almost all of them suffer from mild to sever psychosis. It’s what drew them to Hollyweird to begin with. The entertainment industry is the only place where being psychotic is viewed as “normal.”

You are so right, but can you blame them? Victimhood narratives are remarkably successful in western countries where we suffer from sinful excess of empathy. Empathy is a virtue that must be tethered to and restrained by truth. If we do that, the victim narratives will disappear like magic.
Unrestrained empathy is at the root of every problem our country faces from homelessness to illegal immigration to out of control spending ration. Name a problem and it can be shown where excess (and misdirected) empathy made it worse.
Prime example: the welfare system. When the government started handing out “free money”, (misdirected empathy) it made the poverty problem much worse than before. It created a permanent underclass of which illiteracy, crime and single motherhood are just a few of the problems.

One of women’s primary motivation is “self validation”, empathy plays a big part of that. When faced with a problem a man thinks “how can I solve this”, a woman thinks “how can this be used to my advantage”. I’ve had a few dyslexic moments of my own, that seem to increase exponentially with age, but I never claimed dyslexia. If I had known about it, I might have made better grades.
What you experienced in those moments are otherwise known as “brains farts.” It happens with age and no one is immune.

I can believe that a privileged child would begin education at or before five (that happens in families that aren’t privileged but parents have the time) and if problems occur, would have access to some of the best psychiatrists available. THAT BELIEF IS STRETCHED WHEN HIS DYSLEXIA WENT UNNOTICED BETWEEN 6 AND 20-SOMETHING when he started taking statistics. That would imply the dyslexia is extremely minor. As in not enough to cause problems in stats class unless he is already borderline failing which he argues against (“Stats aren’t about numbers, I told him. If it were about numbers, I’d have sailed through it.”). And certainly not enough to claim a disability excuse.

I had a low C average for that “introductory class”, but then during Statistics II , I had an A! My Professor asked me why I had such a difficult time with “I” and I said “I spent so much time trying to just PRONOUNCE “Statistics” that I had little time to study!
